Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the best game in this trilogy and was well worth the wait. I've been trying to hold myself back with gushing about all the things so I don't spoil it for everyone, but seriously this game is a masterpiece. Yes, there are some things which bothered me while playing but overall the experience was magnificent and should not be missed.

It's an impressive game, there's no lull in the entire story. It's full of emotions, with a constant fight inside Lara. The creators they have taken the evolution of the protagonist to a place which I particularly love. It's amazing how she's created her own path, how she has placed the foundations that make it and after all that, you can tell how easy it can be destroyed or how it tumbles to survive in her heart. World's fate is in Lara Croft's hands, and She looks so human, so sensitive and yet so dedicated and strong. All of these things make the shadows and the lights of the tomb raider, Lara Croft.

The game is a revelation, it's the nearest you are going to get to a perfect Tomb Raider game. It's sweat dripping environments whether in a jungle in Peru or deep in a tomb covered in blood or swimming through water filled caves filled with dead bodies made me feel like I needed to take a shower after each gaming session. Regardless of the age of the series, this game is keeping up with modern games and surpassing them in every way.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider offers the best game of the trilogy. While the jungle might be a place of death, the game really comes to life with a nice balance of puzzles, combat and exploring. A true ending to a awesome trilogy.

With a story that manages to satisfactorily tread the line between high-concept fun and grounded character exploration, Shadow of the Tomb Raider meaningfully wraps up the journey Lara began in 2013 and convincingly leaves her in a place resembling where she was when we were first introduced to her more than 20 years ago.

The new course of the Tomb Raider saga seems to have definitively matured with this chapter: someone could find it superior to Uncharted 4, and it would not be blasphemous.

It feels like the best way to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider is to embrace all of it and take some time to sink into the world Crystal Dynamics has crafted so that Lara 's journey feels more filling. That 's when her journey and everything she does feels a little more ... right.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an excellent conclusion to the origin story that began in 2013. It’s great system, captivating world and attractive presentation make it one of the better games of the franchise. Eidos Montreal made an honest and mature experience that is focused on doing what it does best: being an adventure that keeps you hooked.

Exciting from the title screen to the closing credits, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a tremendous thrill ride. It’s the definitive final chapter for story threads we’ve been following since 2013’s game, but also leaves the door open for more adventures in the future. We’ve got our fingers crossed that this isn’t Lara’s last hurrah. It doesn’t matter where she travels. Lara is going to be involved in some precarious predicaments, and we want to be there with her.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider improves every element of the previous games. Tomb design, jungle setting and the natural disasters complete the definitive Lara Croft adventure. Sometimes it feels too similar to Rise of the Tomb Raider, not only gameplay-wise but even with respect to locations, characters and enemies.

There are some things that I can nitpick about, but all in all, this is a pretty great game and a great way to end Lara’s origin story. Fans of the rebooted Tomb Raider series are sure to be pleased, and if you’re someone who has yet to get into the franchise, maybe now is the time to do so.

This is the best in the new trilogy of Tomb Raider games. Between action, exploration and puzzles, this is the most balanced one. Yet, it is afraid to bring forth real innovation. It is a great game, but it won't surprise anybody.

Lara Croft’s survival trilogy closes with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. There’s room for improving the formula, but this is a great adventure with plenty of action and platforming.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider has all the polish and extraordinary visuals you’d expect from the third entry in a huge franchise, but it’s also held back by uninspired writing and an emphasis on archaic video game conventions like boring gunplay.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider understands the essence of the old franchise and renews it. The game is all about raiding tombs, puzzles and stealthy fights in a beautiful world.

A reassuringly solid trilogy third act, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will certainly prove familiar. Nevertheless with better tombs to raid, improved underwater exploration and a more brutally framed narrative, enough adjustments have been made to underscore everything that fans have loved about the series for years.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider delivers a great new adventure. However, the closure of the trilogy does not stand its ground with enough courage in order to try and provide remarkable new elements, which in the end leaves us with a bittersweet feeling.

The personality of Lara and the many beautifully designed tombs that can be discovered should make Shadow of the Tomb Raider the best in the series, but due to the sloppy finish this is unfortunately not entirely the case.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider isn’t as good as the original reboot, but feels more like a complete package than Rise of the Tomb Raider offered. Peru is represented beautifully, and with some jaw dropping landscapes coupled with very detailed character models, Tomb Raider remains an immersive adventure with just a few faults keeping it from being a true great.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider leaves a little to be desired as the final instalment in this reboot series, but the trilogy all together is a strong and fantastic series. It’s worth picking up and playing if, for no other reason, than to share in Lara’s incredible adventures one more time.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a messy ending to a messy remake of a messy franchise. But it’s messy in a way I was compelled to see through to the end, shining in ways that were engaging and faltering in ways that fall far from ruining anything. This Tomb Raider trilogy has been full of ambition and missteps, but never failures, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider, despite its problems, ends things on a high note that reminded me both why I loved the 2013 reintroduction so much and why Rise of the Tomb Raider left me wanting. It lies somewhere in-between, and I’m glad the Trinity story has concluded so we can move on to something new again.

Closer to the original Tom Raider games, at least in its atmosphere, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is well crafted, beautiful and loaded with interesting puzzles. But the feeling of deja vu is strong with this one.

It’s another terrific addition to modern Lara Croft’s adventures, albeit a safe one that doesn’t seem to want to take too many risks outside driving the series’ iconic protagonist through a dark and grisly story.

Its initial focus on Lara’s character and colonialist mentality is surprisingly poignant. But it stumbles in following through on those topics and improving or changing the gameplay loop.

With Shadow of the Tomb Raider, we get one of the best episodes of the whole franchise. It doesn't intend to revolutionize the formula the reboot put in place in 2013, but it has a quite interesting story and a dashing setting, offers a well balanced experience, and has a huge amount of challenges that will surely please plenty of virtual explorers.

As what may be the last hoorah for this particular story arc, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a stereotypical stealth-action game, but one which manages to separate itself from the pack by excelling in everything that makes this genre what it is.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is mainly more of the same thing. Focusing on stealth gameplay is an excellent choice, but the story is all over the place.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider takes us deeper into exploration and deserves its name more than ever, to the detriment of pleasurably less rare but wild fights. If the game does not invent anything and draws much from the competition as in the formula of its predecessor, it is nonetheless the culmination of the splendid career of a Lara Croft who has become mature and definitely charming. A truly exotic adventure.

It’s only a small step forward from the last game but this is the most successful attempt so far to modernise Tomb Raider, even if the storytelling still has problems.

The stealth mechanics and fun world traversal in Shadow of the Tomb Raider make it a great game. Whether Lara is smothering herself in mud to shank enemies and return to the shadows, rappelling down into gloomy caves, or blasting creatures with her powerful shotgun, this game has a grimy edge that makes it well worth playing.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider shifts the franchise's focus more towards exploration - which is a good thing, since it complements Lara Croft's character in a way the more shooting-oriented previous games didn't. The adventure's a bit predictable, but nevertheless a joy to see through to the end, even if an annoying camera and bad input registration drag the experience down at times.

I don’t feel like I earned the ending I got, and I believe fans who traversed all three games are going to feel a bit shortchanged by the final cutscene. Despite captivating set pieces and a sentimental journey with Lara, my engagement took a dive at several intervals, and my pendulum of investment too often fell on the fringe of excitement. A few missing puzzle pieces leave a good experience in the place of greatness.

Slick and overly downbeat, Lara's latest sees the reboot trilogy end just as it began.
  2. Sep 10, 2018
In this Tomb Raider, Lara Croft again shows signs of renewal, not as the gritty survivor we met in 2013, but as a more complex character who actually talks to the people she meets on her travels and understands the gravity of her actions.
  3. Sep 10, 2018
Capitalizing on the franchise's best assets and tiptoeing around its flaws, Shadow of the Tomb Raider takes the latest imagining of our girl Lara out in style. From incredible graphics to artfully designed gameplay, Shadow of the Tomb Raider does not disappoint.
  4. Sep 21, 2018
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is fine. It’s simply okay, in a mundane way. While the previous games in the “reboot” continuity were great action adventures, this is predominantly a swimming simulator with a boring plot and dull backdrop...Also, the direction this game takes, with its lacking combat and focus on restrictive exploration, is a little baffling.
  5. Sep 10, 2018
Shadow of the Tomb Raider delivers stunning cinematics, evolved gameplay and a deep explorable world, but its narrative and portrayal of Lara Croft is ultimately at odds with the Croft that Eidos Montréal hinted at throughout the game, one that’s supposed to have found nuance in her place in the world.
  6. Sep 10, 2018
For all the savvy tweaks to combat and exploration, Shadow of the Tomb Raider unfortunately feels like an extremely long expansion pack, now with killer fish and face mud.
  7. Sep 10, 2018
No matter how much Lara changes in the course of this adventure, she's still an instrument of hegemony. This world remains a constructed fantasy, one designed specifically for her...Tomb Raider is and will always be Lara Croft’s playground. And as uninteresting and fundamentally regressive as Lara’s tale is, that’s the only story that this franchise can tell.

Maybe the fans of the series are not seeing the flaws, or maybe despite the flaws, they find this game that much enjoyable nonetheless. As someone who has completed the first two games, I find this quite disappointing.

I mean, I see what were the developers going for. They put more "tomb raiding" and less shooting. And I don't know why people think this is a good thing. Why not more of both? There's no point of upgrading your weapons, you won't be using most of them. Tomb raiding side quest rewards you with combat moves or crafting materials which you rarely use.

The game mechanics are so similar to the previous games. The only thing new about it is that Lara can camouflage herself by smearing mud all over herself. Don't expect that you'd be doing this quite often, you won't. The encounters with enemies are cut down by 3/4, at least. So, if you're looking for combat as it was advertised, (like a predator) those moments will be brief and you won't miss it.

The animations are the same ones as the previous titles. I had hoped that they change the dodging animation. It's the same one since the first, crawling like an ape. If you're trying to get back to the roots, keep in mind that Lara is acrobatic, not a wild animal!

I'm not finished with the flaws. At some point in the game, you are required to be in a specific outfit to talk to people. And this makes my blood boils. It's so annoying going back and forth to the camp just to change clothes. I hated this mechanic. Who thought this was a good idea? This was the worst thing about this game.

I'm still not finish with the criticism. It's the story. I don't care that the characters are uninteresting. But it's about Lara. The first two game had moments where Lara just snapped, going berserk to seek out vengeance. And after that fallout, she had to deal with that transformation, by going all emotional. This is good and a believable transformation... the first time. There is no reason for this to happen again! She already killed a lot of people in the last two games. When are we going to see Lara Croft The Tomb Raider rather than Lara Croft "becoming" the Tomb raider?

The good thing about this game. I did enjoy the stealth section, despite it being so brief.

This is basically the developers attempt at making a critic bait 10/10 walking simulator with a "deep" narrative. It failed to get any 10s, and the reason for that is the awful story. The physics are terrible and the pacing is horrendous. The puzzles are boring and the level design is bad. The lighting looks horrible compared to the previous installment. This game is just a cheap version of Uncharted 4.

To make matters worse, there is no multiplayer. So once you beat the story, there is not a reason to touch this game again. Charging $60 for a game without replay value is a cashgrab. Speaking of cashgrab, the Co-op multiplayer is locked behind a paywall in the upcoming DLC. This is a greedy move from Square Enix. I recommend you wait for the game to drop to $10.before picking it up.
