It’s a good remaster, but frankly I find it unnecessary. Those who have already played the game on PS2 or PS3 will find nothing new here, and those who didn’t have the chance to get acquainted with it probably will not understand what we saw in Shadow of the Colossus 12 years ago, when gaming reality was completely different. Shadow of the Colossus gives you a fantastic scenario with impressive colossi that become very challenging later on in the game. Nevertheless, smooth gameplay still remains absent with this remake. The game can blow you away at times, but also makes you want to destroy your controller when it doesn’t deliver what you can expect from a good game these days.

The best way to experience Shadow of the Colossus — play a couple of levels at a friend’s or use the Share Play function. This game was a hit in its time, on its original platform, but we all moved on, and now the remastered version feels archaic, especially its gameplay.

A melancholy masterpiece is reborn in this faithful and breathtakingly beautiful remake.

By lovingly recreating that feeling from scratch, this remake is not just a means for Sony to sell you Shadow of the Colossus again—it proves that its appeal is not rooted in mere nostalgia but is a lasting work of quality that transcends its era.

The right memories are allowed to linger. This is more than just a Shadow of the Colossus remake; it's a definitive take, the game as it was always meant to be in our heads.

Shadow of the Colossus lives up to the legacy of the original and provides a brand new presentation for fans to experience. Newcomers will get the best playing version of the title while veterans will get the version they always dreamed of. The game is smoother to play, the presentation is top notch and the minimalist storytelling from the original isn’t embellished or altered. This is exactly what you’d want from a remake and I couldn’t be happier with the final result.

A decade later and totally remade, it’s still a game of gobsmacking, devastating beauty, with moments and images that haunt you long afterward.

While this PS4 remake might not be the best way ever to experience Team Ico’s timeless classic, it offers players old and new an experience that simply can’t be replicated anywhere else.

With a new look and some tweaked controls, I actually found it more approachable than Ueda’s The Last Guardian, which came out a decade after the original Shadow of the Colossus. The core of the game is timeless; it just needed a few changes to help its world come alive in 2018.

    A masterpiece reborn

Ever since i heard shadow of The colossus was getting a remake i was overjoyed. I've played it on ps2, loved the remaster and now im able to play the remake of one the best action titles ever created. I couldn't be happier that this remake happened. The graphics, sound,  everything has been remade running on a brand new game engine entirely. The colosi and environments have been overloaded with amazing detail and the world feels very alive despite the quieting emptiness of it. With detailed texture work and lighting this game looks absolutely gorgeous. It's also butter smooth hardly ever dropping frames even when giant colossi are thrashing about. The story has been left untouched retaining the same emotional journey the original offered. No new colosi or extra story but Everything else however has been improved to the MAX. Bluepoint games did a phenomenal job of remaking this classic. ID even go as far to say this surpasses the original and is one of if not the best game remakes ever created. A masterpiece has been made even better i can't wait to see what bluepoint games does next. Absolutely incredible job. 10/10

Climbing is also a joke. This is not a masterpiece, not even close. Is just a game which desperately wants to be a masterpiece but couldn't even master the basics of video game design. Full Review »

I mean, the game is nice, but that's all, especially if we compare it to titles like Witcher 3, Horizon: Zero Dawn. After 4-5th colossus, it gets really boring and schematic with nothing really changing but the placement of the colossi weak spots.
So, 6/10 is even a bit stretch...
