Having never played the previous releases, I was really looking forward to find out what the fuzz is all about and, after 16 beaten colossi, I still don't understand it. So, 6/10 is even a bit stretch...

“But the camera keeps banging into cliffs ?”
“This symbolises the struggle of the player banging their head against the wall when trying to control the horse. Any way this would require two joysticks on the controller”
“It’s had two joysticks since 1997”
“Moving on … finally we had a request to redo the motion capture for the character running – we received comments it looked the run you do when desperate for the toilet and finally see a toilet in the distance”

I was really really hyped for this game and when I finally start playing the hype was over. I tried to look at this game only as art. It helped to make me finish this game, but when I was trying to enjoy shadow of the colossus, it just felt forced. Did not have fun at all and not even breath taking visuals of environment and beautiful yet scary Colossus did not change the fact, that II was really really hyped for this game and when I finally start playing the hype was over. I give this 10 for art, and 2 for game, one of my biggest disappointment in video games, maybe I missed the whole point or I just cant enjoy game for its good looks and I need something that drives me to feel for the characters in its world. I give it 6 only because most critics love it and it makes me feel like I cant see what most of you can, something to be impressed about...what a shame.

7/10 is a good game for me. Not bad, not very good.

Obvious things: this game is beautiful. Period. This game is different than most of the games on the market. Open question: does 'different' mean 'good' by definition?

Sadly, I've found this game quite boring. To reach the Colossi takes 10 minutes of very-nice-views-but-nothing-more. To beat the Colossi it's either directly-obvious-what-to-do or frustratingly-non-obvious. The difficulty level is uneven and I've found some middle-Colossi to be the most challenging.

The story is virtually non-existent. For ~8h of play there is nothing. The ending is open, which is cool when you have observed character development for x hours, but with no background it makes it even more empty.

Some reviews point to the "uncomfortable feeling when killing innocent Colossi". I kind of missed that as well.

It's a nice game, but it's far from 9.0 score.

If you are looking for "something completely different" but "with deep story" and possibly "for mature people" I highly recommend "Everybody's gone to the Rapture".

So first I'll concede that the game is bleakly beautiful, atmospheric, sad, mysterious, and all the other words reviewers have used in their ecstatic paeans to its apparently undeniable brilliance. It's all those things, yes. And the remaster is astonishing: it's now one of the best looking games on the PS4, not just artistically speaking(because it was always beautiful from an artistic standpoint, even back on PS2), but technically speaking too. The detail, the textures, the animation; it's all fantastically impressive, and frankly light-years ahead of anything Team Ico have ever done, including The Last Guardian. The fur on the Colossi is particularly lovely. Makes you want to grab a hunk of it and bury your face in it.
It's a unique game, and it's been extremely influential too - this can be seen in the number of developers that have incorporated 'colossi' of their own into their games(even the great Nintendo paid homage with the four Beast-dungeons in Breath of the Wild.), or the reach of the tonal aesthetic of the game - the relentless use of SotC's muted palette in so many subsequent AAA releases, a kind of bleached, muddy, grey-brown look that arguably influenced the look of games as different as Gears Of War and Killzone.
It's an atmospheric game, but in many ways it's not entirely enjoyable to play - there is a loneliness to it all, a sense of crushing solitude that remains unbroken throughout. The hills, the mountains and rivers, lakes and seas, have their own looming presence, like they're watching you from a distance. It's slightly spooky to wander a land in which almost all life, certainly all human life, is absent. A few scurrying lizards and the occasional bird are all you'll see, besides your horse and the colossi themselves. I personally think it requires a reasonably happy mindset to play it. I wouldn't want to play it at a low moment that's for sure.
But like I said, after all the positives there is one issue that comes close to ruining the game, and it's not just a problem in SotC - all Team Ico's games suffer from it: The controls in this game are appalling. I've been playing The Last Guardian recently and the controls in that are probably slightly worse, but in tLG at least you're not tasked with anything too demanding or finicky. In SotC however, you are required to climb the colossi, and jump back and forth between parts of their body, all while hanging on to particular handholds, all while your stamina meter gradually dwindles away, at which point you drop to the ground. There are platforms located on the colossi at certain points, but the motion of their movements tosses you into the air and sends you flying around in unpredictable ways. Having fought the third colossus(MILD SPOILER), a huge figure who smashes his sword into the ground allowing you a moment to scamper up it and grab onto his lovely fur, I fell to the ground so often, and generally for no reason except the appalling controls. At one point, after I'd almost killed him, I was attempting to get back on, and the tremor from a single footstep knocked me to the ground. At this point, and for no apparent reason, it takes ten seconds for me to get to my feet, during which time the colossus has lifted his sword and smashed it down onto my tiny frame, killing me.
The game is full of moments like this - inexplicable moments of frustration, a commingling of bad game design and bad controls, and it's gotten to the point where I can't just shrug it off and say 'that's Team Ico for you'. It shouldn't be like that - they've had so long to get the controls in their games right, and even after the insane delays to tLG it somehow handled worse than their previous games did. This remaster is brilliant in so many ways, but the most important thing that could have been dealt with has been left intact, and it suffers for it. I don't blame Bluepoint for not dealing with the controls - it would have required extensive reworking of the actual game's structure and even the environments and colossi themselves, because the controls are so integral. And the admittedly beautiful animation wouldn't be half as beautiful if the controls had been rejigged to make them responsive. In fact, I think that's the reason the controls are so bad - Team Ico are obsessive about animation, and the length of the animations in their games precludes responsive controls. In this sense they've put the beauty of the game ahead of controls, and there's only so long they can keep on doing it before people turn on them.
It's no longer acceptable, and there's no reason you can't have a beautiful game that handles well. Uncharted manages it. SotC doesn't, and for that it deserves more criticism than it's received. It's wonderful, unique game, but no-one should go into it unaware of just how bad it handles.

    + Wonderful soundtrack
+ Best looking game ever made for PS4 (my opinion) + Decent minimalistic story + Wonderful overall world feeling + Very nice concept. Cons: - Terrible camera and controls, especially when riding a horse. Few battles felt like fights with camera, not with colossus. - AI bugs. - Basically no replay value (each fight is always done the same way).

SoTC is a good game, but the core gameplay is pretty shallow if you ask me. You beat the game once and there is basically no reason to play it again since there is only one tactic per a boss. Still, I would recommend it because it's a decent game and it's pretty cheap.

Emperor's New Clothes. Wooden characters. Terrible controls for the the horse; your means of navigating a lifeless world, a barren expanse to flesh out the time between each boss fight. The camera is awful and can be nauseating on a large screen, especially when navigating large open spaces. Actually the whole thing is a bit depressing, maybe that's what makes this a Masterpiece for some?

If you are going to remaster can't they have fixed the following gaming problems from the 00's which are just crappy not retro.

    - Bad camera
    - Clunking unresponsive controls because the character has to finish the animation it's doing before you do something else
    - Controllering your horse with tank like controls!
    - Waiting and waiting for the AI in boss battles to do what is meant to be doing for you to progress
    - Pretty but nearly empty open world.

It's retro I get it, but scores like 9.7/10 on IGN ridiculous. If this came out from some unknown dev and wasn't a remake it just wouldn't get anything like that score.

This game looks new but feels super old and out dated. If this game was $15 then it would be an 8 but since its $40 its a 5. Its ok but just too expensive for what they are offering. I would have given a penalty on the lack of any multiplayer automatically dropping it by 2 points if this title was $60. This is 2018 if games are $60 without MP there is a serious problem. This game was a platinum trophy pursuit for me, so it's safe to say I played this one to death. I came to expect a lot having never played it on the older consoles, and heard a lot of good words...

I'm going to be a bit 'edgy' or whatever, and go against the general consensus here, but although I applaud the game for what it does extremely well, which I'll get into, I was left really underwhelmed by something not enough people have commented on but some of the most important things: controls, camera and game mechanics.

I felt controls were really clunky, often unresponsive, often annoying to the extreme. The horse will sometimes not budge. The horse won't vault over obvious things you'd expect to the point you have to kind of 'reverse' yourself out of a stupid angle.

The aiming is terrible and jittery and I'm not just talking about me being rubbish, the aiming is terrible and onerous. To the point of affecting my overall enjoyment of the game which obviously becomes a problem, especially if you're going for those trophies.

The camera is also a problem. I don't consider it the biggest of issues with the game, however I will say it's 'dated' in that, for instance, it won't let you look wherever you want at the right time in all the right places. These camera 'issues' are actually intentional, and I'm sure lifted from the older versions of the game, but seeing as I'm used to more freedom in certain modern open world titles, this camera is basically dated.

So with the part most people will down vote this for out of the way... the good stuff. The game looks incredible. The sound and music, gorgeous. The boss fights are monumental. I loved solving the puzzles and seeing where the story would go in the end. To this end I was glad to having never spoiled anything going into it, as let's say there's a good twist. The game is definitely creative, and deserving some of its praise for this alone. It was clearly ahead of the curve in many ways back in the days of PS2, but I'm not going to let that cloud the fact it has glaring problems. Also if you do all the challenges, and do the bosses on all the difficulties you get some cool extras like concept art to enjoy.

In closing, it's a shame the janky controls and some of the mechanics, such as aiming and horse control want to bring my score on this down. I was looking to give this a strong 8 or 9, but instead I think a 6 is about right for this.

Decent game in terms of graphics and atmosphere. I didn't have high expectation on the graphics but the game really surprised me on that front. I did, however, have trouble on the controls. It is simply frustrating to drop from the colossi once and again just to climb back up again and do the simply stabbing trick. The combats themselves lack versatility and the plot should have more depth.

This game feels like they salvaged what they could out of a fatally drained budget and sold it like having so little content was the plan all along.

With the last bosses it did get more interesting, picked up a bit of suspense and finally the ending did make up for a lot of narrative that was missing most of the game. It is an experience, but as a game, it's over after 6-8 hours, and that only because you have to repeatedly travel over long and empty distances and if you go hunting a few useless lizards and fruits in a partially good looking, but mostly very bland looking environment.

You can get probably get a bit more challengeing things to do and some new equipment in New Game+, but why would you really want to...?

There is a very minor connection to The Last Guardian (basically in the setting, the climbing, and the general feel), but that is a very different "story" in quite a few aspects.

Storywise, it’s simple and light. Don’t expect to find an extremely developed scriptwriting, but some mysteries are good enough to make the player wanting a few answers.

That’s all for what I liked about SOTC. There are also many things I didn’t like. First, let me start with the absolute worst thing in this game: the horse handling. It is HORRIBLY TERRIBLE. I don’t care that it’s originally a PS2 game. If you remaster/remake it (2 times), you correct the obvious bad stuff. It’s not acceptable to « remake » a game and to offer your players such a disastrous experience when it comes to the handling of the horse. Moreover, the frame rate is bad. It’s too slow and I cannot believe that they cannot make such an old game a 60fps on PS4. That’s another very negative point. On top of that, there are lots of camera problems and I’ve found myself stuck several times because of bugs or gameplay imperfections. Disappointing for such a light-content game.

More subjectively, I found the game slow to begin. I also don’t like this fictional language thing. Globally, I got tired after a while so I forced myself to finish the last third. Nevertheless, it’s worth playing for its uniqueness and because I have rarely seen such advanced boss fighting (if you can call them like that).

All the points I awarded are based on the positive points mentionned above. But I cannot give a passing note to a game with such horrendous gameplay. I know it isn't a well received opinion to blast a "iconic" (for some) video game like Shadow of the Colossus, but I want to be objective here.

But there is not enough to do, not enough depth. Game gets very repetitive after beating few bosses. To often I felt that game deisgn is not intuitive, and I'm doing not what my mind suggests me, but what developers intend me to do (like jumping to that high platform where colossus with sword is. Didn't know what I should do and fell to water plenty times). The gameplay doesn't really require skill even on Hard, the whole difficulty is to find a dude and find a way to kill him. And what's wrong with the camera? Why do I have to fight it all the time? It's like it has some rubber strings that pull it hard to the center all the time.

Nevertheless, once you start doing battle it’s really easy to win and turns quite fun trying to defeat the colossus.

The landscapes were amazing, you can clearly see that they put a lot of effort in trying to picture a beautiful world, you can see the strong influences from the Scotland landscapes, and the Aztec and Cambodian cultures put together in order to create a world that it was just beautiful to watch.

The world is always covered with a thin fog, which together with graphics and textures that reveal its age, does not hide that this game belongs two console generations back. Given the limited number of characters and the big but relatively empty world, I would have expected that the team working on the remaster would have improved the game graphics, but it seems to me that they have just ported it to PS4. In summary, this games does not live to the review made by the critics, which give it a 91. A 91! Clearly, the critics have not been able to leave behind its nostalgia when writing the review. Expand

Obviously the one main positive is the graphics. They are absolutely stunning and Bluepoint should definitely get a ton of credit in that department. On top of that, adding in a performance mode on the PS4 Pro is something way more devs should be doing. Its nearly flawless. Kudos.

Graphics and performance aside, everything else about the game is just seriously unpleasant. Once you've killed one colossi, you've killed them all. The controls are SO horrendously floaty and bad, Idk how the game didnt get stopped in QA. I understand they wanted to keep the controls like the original but omg, the controls are so so so bad that it killed almost everything for me. you never know if youre going to grab onto a ledge or the fur, the jumping is so imprecise and you fight with the camera every single second of gameplay. Its infuriating.

Dont get me started on the Agro (The horse). Its. Awful. I hate it. Its worse than Roach in TW3 and thats saying something. Never goes where you want him to, often just juts into a random direction whenever it wants. So unpleasant to control especially considering how much time you spend riding him and its made even worse since you need him for a few of the fights,

The story is also completely forgettable. There is almost no voice acting to speak of, and there's no clear reason as to how you got to where you are. I really wish they would have redone this part with flashier cutscenes and cinemetography.

Put the awful controls and lack of ability of the story to grip me, and you've got a boring game that has flashes of brilliance and a TON of potential. If the controls were made tighter and the camera control improved, i would easily raise the review score to an 8.
The game is by no means broken, in fact its flawlessly polished. its just ruined by poor controls.

The premise of SotC may be interesting - but at the end, becomes a hollow, pointless technical demonstrator. As with Team Ico's "The Last Guardian"... SotC presents a potentially interesting take on the 3d puzzle/platform game, but ultimately in the same way it just becomes annoying with frustratingly bad controls, especially the temperamentally aloof Agro (I felt very agro when interacting with this horse, who seems about as intelligent as a bag of bricks); the cringey character mechanics that often end up seeing Wander lurching around as if drunk; the woeful camera that seems to have been programmed by someone suffering autism (avoiding focusing on the important things), the vacuous story (more on that); and the at once impressive open-world landscape that seems to have been for a completely different game, and at the end just becomes a vast riding simulator arena; the map and locator mechanic that often has you inadvertantly going off down a dead-end; pointless side-missions that add nothing relevant to the game; and finally the Colossi themselves - poor AI, meaningless combat dynamics where you rarely need to die if you can be bothered to just leave the arena and wait the 2-3 minutes to rejuvenate health... not to mention the completely contrived design that turns them in to basically just moving platforms. Even if the mechanics had been sorted in the PS4 re-master, the game itself is empty... a lot of people praise the minimalist story line - but essentially there is no story until you complete the game, and when you get there, it really isn't worth the wait.

Also many people are impressed with the meta-meaning of 'who is the monster'?... and we're meant to feel sorry for the Colossi... but in the end, I felt nothing for them except a hairy (angry) platform environment - they express no more sentience than an angry fart. As for the protagonist - he is essentially a moving emotionless mannequin - with no real emotion, no motivation, no real impact from all the killing he does. And if he can't be bothered caring, then neither can I.

The problem is that this is lauded as a PS classic - and perhaps on the PS2 it was truly impressive, but to modern sensibilities and expectations, this is only a so-so game at best, but elevated to a shocker given the unjustifiable love for the game (especially by critics). If you're wondering whether to buy it - and thinking it sounds pretty simple with only 16 Colossi to dispatch when some of them can be killed in 5 mins, or 1 hour (due to the poor programming and crap controls that force you to repeat so many things) - it is all over too quickly.

The only thing that gives it any length is the ridiculous riding of the horse to your next opponent... and it's not like you'll be doing anything on the journey except wondering why this was a feature of the game at all. That and the very contrived and repetitive gameplay when you get there. Got this as a PS+ freebie, and was actually going to buy it. Glad I didn't.

Incredibly disappointing game that just comes across to me as one of those technical demonstrators that was turned into a ill-conceived and poorly executed (almost) game.

The game does not have much more to offer than great landscapes and half-epic, half-puzzly boss fights.

The gameplay and controls are kind of messy. The game repeats itself a lot. And it is very shameful that I can't enjoy more of that cute world with calm moments. I just have to rush to that next puzzle battle. For what ? I'm not even sure as the story really sits on a postage stamp.

I think I've been kind of deceived by the great reviews the game got everywhere. So I'm giving it an average grade to try and warn potential unaware buyers !

But as I’ve said before, I’m horrible at games where you’re left to your own devices to figure out what to do next & especially puzzles & that’s basically the meat of this game lol. It’s a big boss rush essentially, with each boss being their own puzzle. Getting to some of them can be a pain, as well as figuring out how to take the colossi down. The horse you ride on being realistic is well.. annoying. Idk about you but I play games to not be IN REALITY. So any mechanics like that are always unwelcome to me. Those are a few gripes I had, but overall the frustration doesn’t outweigh the enjoyment I had trekking across this mysterious land to get to the next colossi.

I bought a PS4 just to play this game, Spider-man, God of War and the other slew of highly acclaimed exclusives for this console. Out of all of these games I will say SotC has not lived out to the legendary status.
One thing that ruins 90% of game are the controls and camera. They are absolutely the worst I have ever seen in any 3rd person game. Where ever you would like to look, apparently the game kwos better than you. Racing on your horse at full gallop and the camera drops to the ground where you can't see any obstacles in front of you. Weird. I enjoy standing completely still and moving the camera a tad and watch the game quickly switch the view to some neutral position that doesn't make sense. Watch any video on any YouTube gameplay and watch the the fans gushing about the game still struggle will it. In fact many often comment on the several downsides of this game and yet still call it one their favorites, if not THE favorite of all time. I don't get how such a major drawback still can be overlooked even after 2 remasters. It's practically criminal.
It's not just the camera controls, the hero and horse controls are terrible too. Watch players on a YouTube video fight the controls while trying to cross the narrow land bridges. It's a good thing your horse won't run off the edge because that would be game breaking. It's because your horse kind of has a mind of its own and will run his own path if you let him and don't fight it. But if you like to think you have control, that's where you'll mess up. What makes matters worse is that there are Colossi that need the horse for combat. Even just controlling your elfish hero that prances across the prairies like a ballerina is not that intuitive. People would put up with bad controls like this a couple decades ago but now this can't be forgiven.
I didn't really know much about this game and what I was getting into but after defeating the first 4 bosses I realized that that is all this game is. Defeating large tedious bosses. There is nothing else to fight or do that really matters. I've learned from watching walkthroughs that there are items and shrines to find out in the world. I don't know where they are because the world is pretty huge but barren. The gamer I watched even said that he wouldn't bother getting them until AFTER he defeated the Colossi. What is the point then?
The game is really MAYBE a couple hours of actual interesting gameplay surrounded by things out of your control that just slow you down or make you start over. Long travels times to boss locations that will be redone if you die. Fall in water? Expect a very slow swim back to land. Prepare to wait for each Colossus to perform the action needed so you can begin your ascent to his sweet spot. If you miss it, prepare to wait again. Need your hero to rest on a safe spot during your climb? Get ready for him to flop all over the place like a rag doll from the slightest movement. I also wonder what percentage of SotC players have used videos and wikis to defeat a Colossus because many times things are unclear. I rarely ever go online for hints but I did more on this game than in most other games played in my lifetime put together. The hints the game gives you are vague and sometimes misleading. In one, the voice tells you to knock off the beasts armor to defeat him but in actuality he knocks his own armor off by striking a metal plate instead of soft ground. Something the game expected me to figure out at random, I guess.
And the one thing that shocked me the most is the Colossus battles get tedious very quickly. There is no tension because even a direct strike by a colossus might do less than 25% damage which quickly automatically rejuvenates. You can fall from some of the tallest places and still not even take 50% damage. I guess that's good because you would just be restarting from the main temple or last shrine each time but it also means there are little to no stakes involved.
This game isn't a test of skill really but a test of frustration. If you are the type that doesn't get easily frustrated by challenges then this is the game for you. I'm not that type of person.

What could've been one of my most memorable gaming experiences turned out to be one of the most disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I still thought Shadow of the Colossus was a good game, but I did not understand where the game's status as a "masterpiece" came from.

As far as the positives with this game go, the game looks absolutely stunning, and is one of the most visually appealing games ever released. Also, the attention to detail within the world's landscapes is amazing, and it really makes the whole world feel alive. Finally, I really liked how the game took a non-traditional method to storytelling, and rather than relying on constant dialogue and cut scenes, the game tells its story through the actions of the player.

Even though there are a lot of positives about this game, there are quite a few negatives that I simply cannot ever look past. First of all, the gameplay and controls both feel very clunky and unresponsive. This may have felt just fine in 2005, but in 2018, when we have games with advanced physics engines and tighter controls, this game's controls stick out like a sore thumb. Also, I found very few of the colossi to be genuinely fun and entertaining to take down, those being Avion, Phalanx, and Dirge, while the rest either felt decent at best or insanely frustrating at worst (Celosia). But quite possibly the worst of all, this game has very little replay value. What I mean by that is, once you've beaten the game once, there is no reason to back and play the game a second time, as it will be the exact same thing. So unless you really enjoyed playing through the game, I can't recommend you play through the game more than once, and I don't ever see myself playing through this game again.

In conclusion, Shadow of the Colossus is certainly a good game and one I recommend everyone tries out once throughout their life. But even so, the game is incredibly flawed and far from a masterpiece, at least in my opinion.

By your side you have your noble horse, named Agro, and you’re equipped with a sword and bow and arrow to aid you in your fight. The graphics on the PS4 are a nice improvement, but unfortunately, the controls don’t match up. Agro steers terribly and will absolutely not cooperate with you in forests. Also, while in a battle with a Colossi, she will refuse to come to you when you call her, forcing you to chase her down and mount her yourself. However, she is a nice companion and good at getting places faster. She will be useful in battles with Colossi, where she can evade attacks such as fireballs with a speed quicker than the human player owns. I have to give the game credit for creating unique designs for each of sixteen Colossi. The game also gives you the option to switch your controls around (for example: “classic” controls can be switched to the remake’s controls, or can be kept as classic for those who are familiar with the 2005 controls). With each Colossi, a unique challenge is presented, and although the end goal is always the same, getting to the magic sigils on the Colossi is different every time. It’s getting to the sigils and effectively taking them out that is the most exciting during the battles. After a long, hard fight with a raging Colossi, the final stab and freezeframe is a great reward for your troubles. Expand

Most of the reviews are based mainly in nostalgia, one of them even recounting solely their past experiences with the game, reviews such as this have more than likely artificially boosted this game to it's current position on this site. Looking at the game alone; it controls horribly, the player character is really floaty and awkward, even more so for that of the horse, she will get stuck on every little object, which in tandem with her wide turning is horrible for maneuverability, especially in forested areas. The climbing of the colossi in this game is also very iffy, to say the least, climbing these things during the boss fights is a pain, with the last boss being the worst of them all. Not the difficulty of managing the stamina meter, that is simply one of the game's mechanics; just when the try to shake you off, when the colossi shake the player characters grip tends to shift, during the 15th boss i was holding onto the boss' shoulder armor when it started to shake, I got flung to it's back, and then to the floor, during which my stamina meter was more than half way full. My Final criticism for this game is the strenuous animation, particularly when getting up after being knocked down, to site another instance in the game, during the 11th boss, i was rammed and my character was knocked onto the ground where he remained while he was hit twice more and died. This game is beautiful and back in the day i see how it would've been deserving of this high a standing when compared to other games of the time, but this game has been released twice since then, bringing in more money for the same developers for the same game, adding nothing but aesthetics, and garnering the same praise, so, is this game worth buying? I'd say that this game is worth buying to an extent, those who are nostalgic for the original will be the main audience for this game, but if you're someone who happens to have (as of writing this) $30 burning a hole in your wallet, or you just want to experience a style of game not so prevalent today, then the Shadow Of The Colossus is the game for you. What I cannot accept are the absolutely horrific controls and camera placement issues this game has. From first moment to last the controls are so unwieldy, so unresponsive, and oh so annoying that all of the potential this game had to be good lay in ruins. Had I known the control system was so flawed I would have never dreamed of buying the game. I had heard that the original controls for the PS2 were also finicky but had expected (yes, I am gullible) the remaster to perhaps correct these problems. Instead it simply upgraded the graphics and kept all the problems the original game suffered from. I'm not sure how anyone can score this game beyond a 7 with such dire control mechanisms and clunky movement - especially when the entire game is based upon roaming the land using said woeful controls. Unless you are a die hard fan I'd recommend you avoid it - certainly if you've never played the game before give it a wide berth. I managed about 3 hours before becoming so frustrated that I turned it off.

What did you not like about it?

I don't really understand what all the fuss is about, its nothing special. All the game is, is a series of boss battles scattered through an open world. The climbing itself in the game feels unitutitive, the boss battles feel underwhelming and the world itself is completely empty. Its a pretty flat experience.

How much time did you put into it?

I played the game for a few hours, took out a few of the monsters or bosses or whatever you want to call them. I stopped playing because the game didn't feel like it was worth continuing.

Do you think you'll try it again at some point?

No, this game is gone and I don't plan on picking it up again. If you love it, great but man its not for me.

the only thing remarkable about this game are the boss-fights. I agree with one of the critic reviews that wasn't blinded by nostalgia and gave it a 7 stating:

"those who didn’t have the chance to get acquainted with it probably will not understand what we saw in Shadow of the Colossus 12 years ago, when gaming reality was completely different." definitely a good game in several

definitely a good game in several ways, but severely lacking in content and depth.

This is the perfect example on why the remasters need to stop, the original game was great because it was plain great to play on your ps2, the ps3 remaster kept that by just upgrading the graphics but keeping it simple nevertheless. This one, tried to make it look like complete redo, but it is not, it should have done the same, keep the price low for new people to try it and go home, butThis is the perfect example on why the remasters need to stop, the original game was great because it was plain great to play on your ps2, the ps3 remaster kept that by just upgrading the graphics but keeping it simple nevertheless. This one, tried to make it look like complete redo, but it is not, it should have done the same, keep the price low for new people to try it and go home, but when you put people who didn't work on the original to "redo" a classic, it is obvious they will not change the important things (yes, the graphics don't matter at the end). Oyunun mekanikleri çok yorucu. Oyunun zorluğundan çok mekaniklerle baş etmek durumunda kalıyoruz.

The atmosphere is on point, but I found the rest of the experience not as rewarding as most players. Sure, exploring a mostly empty world would have been nice, but I guess I was looking for more impressive vistas or things to discover.

Man this game was SO hyped up during the PS2 era, then again for the PS3 but still never got to play it. Finally I gave it a chance when it came to the PS4 and I gotta say, it's not all that. Story is interesting but the real stuff is when you go up against the Colossal giants. Figuring out how to climb them and bring them down was exhilarating and extremely fun, the first 3 or 4 times.Man this game was SO hyped up during the PS2 era, then again for the PS3 but still never got to play it. Figuring out how to climb them and bring them down was exhilarating and extremely fun, the first 3 or 4 times. After that it just becomes tedious. Visually stunning and beautiful open world but the overly long story and the horrible controls really put me off guard and make me not want to play the game again. Maybe down the line but not anytime soon. Expand

Gameplay - 5/10 , controls are sh**, repetitive tasks you get bored after the 4th colossus, i mean they

long gameplay it felt long. Story - 5/10 , very generic, your lady is dead, and in order to revive her you need to beat this colossi, that's it. I resumed it with 10 words. Visuals - 7/10, the

Visuals - 7/10, the art of the game is good, and the animations are very well made but even for 2018
game the textures are not that great

    Sound/music - 8/10

Fun - 5/10, because of bad controls and repetitiveness the game overall feels longer than it is and
you'll get frustrated at some point because of those things

Still better than The Last Guardian, which was almost unplayable.

The game has Amazing bosses and excellent graphics but has awful controls and an uninteresting story that keeps this game from being great.

Perfectly polished and improved cult game – even with better controls! Killing giant monsters has never been so much (melancholic) fun. [Issue#283]

A tribute to the Fumito Ueda will delight the veterans of the original game same as introduce this classic to the newcomers, who are not tuned on a nostalgic note. An ideal opportunity to improve your video game education and a wonderful experience in the same time. Some clumsy controls and occasionally stubborn camera can’t ruin the great experience.

It’s a good remaster, but frankly I find it unnecessary. Those who have already played the game on PS2 or PS3 will find nothing new here, and those who didn’t have the chance to get acquainted with it probably will not understand what we saw in Shadow of the Colossus 12 years ago, when gaming reality was completely different.
