    Resident Evil is still a survival horror classic - this just isn't a classic re-REmake. [Issue#157, p.110]

If you’ve played the original Resident Evil inside out, or the Gamecube remake, you know exactly what you’re getting with Capcom’s shiny re-release. It’s a polished update that never strays far from the template, proving just as faithful as it is hardcore.

As a product of a unique moment in the medium's technological evolution, Resident Evil HD is a fascinating place to revisit. But for many contemporary visitors it will be an unpleasant stay, not because the game's inhabitants are unusually hostile, or because its idiosyncrasies are unfashionable, but because its formative designs have simply been bettered.

There's a beautiful simplicity to Resident Evil HD that serves as a reminder that the best mysteries don't need convoluted stories to be enthralling.

Resident Evil HD adds to the game-play and puzzles but still keeps the essence of what made the game a classic. The remastered version also looks gorgeous in 1080. Here is the cherry on top.. ITS ONLY $20! Good job Capcom. I've been asking for a HD version for a while and now I finally have it. Full Review »

Not because of a high degree of difficulty, but because, tank controls or no tank controls, maneuvering Chris and Jill is a chore. ‘No, Chris! I don’t want you to 180 here three times while the room’s perspective changes and that dog I let in through the front door gnaws at my flesh.’ ‘Jill, if I’ve told you once, I’ve told you a thousand times: I want to push the desk, not jump up on it, not run around the edge.’
If you enjoyed the original or the improved Gamecube version, this might be worth a look. If you tried RE and weren’t a fan, there likely isn’t enough here to convert you.
At the end of the day, however, there is one certainty: I would have preferred to have bought this game three times rather than having purchased The Evil Within once.
As an aside, but keeping with the horror theme, if you find yourself alone in the dark one night, do yourself a favor, hop onto PSN, download and play P.T. Just don’t do it in tighty-whiteys; some stains just never come out.

While the original 1996 Playstation version was a great game for its time, the remake however was a masterpiece.

What better to do with a masterpiece than give it a good polish and shine in 1080p. While this game doesn't have the greatest visuals by today's standards; however none the less it still holds up well, which is a testament to how amazing this game looked when it was originally released.

While of course the infamous controls are still to be found along with the ink ribbons, magic boxes and tedious door sequences. For some these may prove to be a game breaker but for the veterans of resident evil this will be a welcome change and reminder of how good survival horror once was.

However, if new comers can over look these annoyances and find what truly lies beneath the surface they will find a game with a superb atmosphere, intriguing story and plenty of puzzles to test their brains.
