This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The opinions is very mixed, some loved this new "Resident Evil 3", some not, but who dont loved this game must be considered a t***c fans? I think it's wrong, but let's start in order.

The series of Resident Evil started in 1996, the strongest theme of this series was "survival Horror"
A misc of action, exploration, solving mysteries and variations of puzzle, with sense of suspense and tension, it also took a lot of strategy for reach to the goal.
Another strongest impact of this series were the particular characters and backgrounds designs, they gave a strong impact and make them unique, different from any videogames.
The first 3 titles, plus Code Veronica, after so many years, they still continue to fascinate, Shinji Mikami still a genious.

We all remember the first Remake of "Resident Evil" for Gamecube, it had not only an graphics improvements, but it has kept the original features and designs of the first game with additional contents and stories, it had surpassed all expectations, still a masterpiece, probably the one of the best "Remake" of the history.
After the success, many fans hoped for a similar remake of 2 and 3, like the first game, with many improvements, but unfortunately the years passed without news.

From RE4 on, many things changed, the series becomed much action and moved a bit away from the original theme and concept that was the series, however RE4 was a enjoyable title, an enjoyable new experience, RE5 was decently fun too, but i think RE6 was gone a little further...

Resident Evil 7 was a surprise, the "return to the origins of the Survival Horror", if i remember correctly, the devs also said "the series had becomed too much action".

After RE7, a Remake of "Resident Evil 2" was unexpectedly announced, but the first impressions were mixed, because of the new characters designs, too much realistic, also the modernized gameplay system without fixed camera, completely different from the "Remake" version that many people was expected, but thanks to the release of the Classic Costumes and the return of the minigames, even the skeptical fans decided to give a chance.
Though the game was not so long and modernized for the current generation, the Remake version of RE2 maintained his spirit, the thrill and suspense, with puzzles and misc of action, very close to the original, great balance for the new and old generations!

After the Remake of RE2, many fans has very big expectations for a future Resident Evil title, especially for a possible Remake of "Resident Evil 3"!
But after the Remake of RE3 was officially announced, after hearing about some cuts, difference from the original version, changes of the designs and more, the fans were again very skeptical, bute the "classic costumes via pre order bonus" had attracted attention, but after the release of the game, many realized that the classic costume was a "bait"...

The new Resident Evil 3, has a very high quality of graphics and visual, cinematic stories level with more detailed characters, almost everyone agrees on this, but the problem of this game is the less spirit, contents and love for the fans that this game doesnt have...
This game removed the most important part of the original version, the original game was supposed to be a "city version" of the mansion (RE) and RPD (RE2) with many exploration, variations of puzzles to solve, sudden appearance of Nemesis and creatures with scary tension and suspence, people has very big expectations after the latest titles in recent years, included Monster Hunter World and Devil May Cry 5.
But this game go completely against the original version of what "Resident Evil 3" was, it becomed an absurd modernized action videogame than "survival", clearly adapted for the new generation and different public, unfortunately even the difficulty of the game doesnt change the fact.
This game doesnt have the most iconic places of Raccon City, not expected an open world level but something close.
No exploration and no puzzles, the area of the demo was the most fun and interesting part of the game personally.
The most thing you do in this game is "keep going" in a railways, so many linear route, you experience only the "moment", not like in the previous game that you are able to return for discover and explore something new (the most stuff that you unlock is weapons and munitions)
No Jill at RPD also no interaction of her and Marvin.
From half part of the game seem to playing an modernized TPS game than a RE.
Also the hospital is modernized and different from his original design, it becomed flat without any creativity, it lost his vintage / retro style and the lab clearly recycled from RE2 but more big (with live action movie reference maybe?)
There are still so many negative things, the game is "good", but its NOT a "Remake" version that fans expected.

The point is not about the "taste" but "what a Resident Evil are supposed to be"!

As a fan im very disappointed and sad.

Another negative point was the easiness of the game: lots of checkpoints, lots of ammo, lots of savepoints that don't even need ink ribbons to be activated.
In addition, one of the greatest villains of all time in games has been reduced to an non intimidating threat, completely scripted and with a less imposing look. It's really a shame, but this Remake was nowhere near as grand as it could be, following RE2 Remake, its great predecessor. It's not a bad game, it has fluidity and graphic beauty and it's fun, especially for those who don't know the original classic version, but as a Remake, it fails miserably. I hope Capcom, my favorite game company, receives more negative and constructive feedback to learn from their mistakes.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is gonna be a story so relax and listen to an old head explain why this is malarkey incarnate. The game begins in a typical way, starting with a slow, lore intensive opening in which Jill becomes the master of conspiracies and ptsd, and then Nemesis just shows up, busting through a wall. No ounce of subtlety, just big boom. Then, a heavily scripted chase sequence, which ends nonsensically as a doorway of rubble stops Nemesis, he could've easily continued chasing her. Anyway, brad dies, Jill gets her gun, a helicopter shows up and gets blown out of the sky. Now, I would like to say that this was the entire first hour of gameplay in the original game. The entire game has fallacies and shortcuts such as this, and the fact it is not a visual and technical upgrade from the previous game makes all of this unacceptable. The story is not only as inconsequential as the original, but they ripped scenes from other popular games (i.e. killing nemesis is exactly like killing the mastermind in DOOM 2016 no exaggeration.) The mercenaries mode is gone, and the thing I hate the most, the epic final line where Jill says "I'll give you Stars!" is quite literally a throwaway line in another bs scripted chase scene. This game has little respect for the source material, and turned it into the Resident Evil Vendetta of the RE game series. You may wonder what the 1 point is for then if I dislike the game so much? Drain Deimos. Look that up and you will have a good time. Either way, buy re2 before this one. Expand

This new installment has all these things but still falls short of being a great game, atg least on par with the rest of the series. Resident Evil 3 has a lot of small problems that add up to really bring it down for me.

This game takes the same basic plot as the original game and tries to update to a more modern way of characterization in characters and plot instances, but I feel that the changes they made in the minor details really throws off the plot and how the player feels about them. Characters die in diffrent ways that somewhat makes the Nemesis of the game seem not as menacing because it shows him as incompetent and thus being not scary. Other things are character differences with the main cast. Jill Valentine comes of as rude and bratty in this one while in previous entries she is more wary then outright spiteful in her dialogue. Calos is a pretty good new interpretation of the character that feels like the original even though there is new attributes to his character. All the other characters didn’t really have a personality in the original so automatically they are a step up as you can now kinda get a sense of who they are with the little screen time they get. These are some of the more positive changes, but plot points and puzzles from the original are cut from this entry, so it makes the game feel like a fast pace and seem like a short game. They really should have kept these things from the original to make the game feel longer and even out the pace to amore reasonable way. It also really irks me since these were the things from the original game I was looking forward to. Overall, due to a plot that cuts things that would lengthen the game, weird fast pace I didn't really enjoy, and the main character being really unlikable to me, this game was really only an okay experience.

This is not horror, this is not resident evil.

This is pandering to speed runner, competitive gamers who do nothing but spam views on twitch.

the original story was an escape. In horror the protagonist is afraid, so that we the audience may relate, may feel that emotion. Jill was not some super heroin, she was a survivor living in a city. She escaped from her apartment, her place of safety, ran to the police station, the pillar of society, and it was collapsed. she fled further and saw the city hall crumbled. The city's history, built on this mega corp, in the clock tower. the outskirts and how it affects people living outside the city, and the final escape from the docks.

The characters, while with bad dialogue, had the heart of horror in the classic. The Remake characters had no soul, were shallow, one dimensional, lacklustre, and had no emotional involvement, even the villain mikhail, who was all over the city in the original.

the game was promised to be massive, instead it was turned into an almost rail shooter for speed runner views, gimmicky bossfights of which there are very few and far between, and a lack of the city of racoon that would flush out a comprehensive story which spoke of a history and characterization in both the horror setting and dystopian setting.

graphics were great, action was great. literally everything else fell through. And it shows. you can see where they had originall designed more areas to explore. more puzzles to be made. and more locations with newer monsters that fit the settings. All in the train station terminal room. It had several locations that were outright bypassed, a clever little puzzle, and notes all over the board. as the game went on less and less detail, like those notes, were put into the environment, even in the hospital which seemed fully fleshed out.

it's good for a playthrough, and good for 25$, but as a remake and a triple A title. this was on of the greatest disappointments of my modern gaming life. and TLOU2 just came out.

For those of you familiar with the RE2 remake but are on the fence with RE3 remake, don’t be. It modernizes the original RE3 in the same way that the RE2 remake modernized its source material. The original RE3 was faster-paced and a more action oriented, shorter game compared to the original RE2. It bridged the gap between RE2 and RE4, leaning more towards RE2.

They did cut content is about the only legitimate complaint. Start to finish, RE3 make is only a little shorter than original RE3. The launch price of $30 is a little steep considering the cut content. But now the price is $30-40 which is perfect.

What’s here is fantastic. Even though it’s a complete remake, it captures the magic and feel of the original. Just as they did with RE2. The replayability is very high and the pace is noteworthy. I can’t recall the last time I played a game with pacing as good as this. Just as RE2 was my game of the year 2019, this is my game of the year 2020. 9/10

In my opinion, this is a brilliant edition that added a whole new spin to the game while preserving certain moments from the good old RE3 that we all remember.

I definitely enjoyed playing it, and more importantly, I appreciated the face lift and the new changes that were introduced. The remake enabled me to play my old beloved RE3 once again after all those years, and on a much superior platform, while keeping me intrigued by "what else is new here". However, I feel that a few crucial events, moments or encounters from the old RE3 were missed or dismissed in the remake, and this was hard to ignore within the short play time that the remake has to offer.

This game could have offered a lot more, but I was short and sweet, and definitely worth playing. Thanks to the legends of CAPCOM and I look forward to more remakes!

(Although, I could have done without ANOTHER (however brief) sewer section.) The only criticisms I might have, are: 1. Nemmy is underutilized and somehow less intimidating than Mr. X. The encounters with him are intense, but they’re mostly scripted and it’s surprisingly easy to shake him off in the few sections of the game where he actively follows you throughout a level. (I played on Standard difficulty, my first round—Hardcore is next!) 2. The exploration is sadly limited. Levels and environments are mostly linear, with a few buildings and alleys to explore for some goodies. Other than that, it’s a straight shot to each destination, which is somewhat disappointing. It doesn’t at all break my experience, because this game is far more hectic and action-packed than the second remake, but it would have been so nice to explore a sprawling Raccoon City again! 3. The puzzles are traded out for “Turn on four _______” missions. RE2make also had a severe lack of puzzles, but it had a lot more than RE3make, which has close to none. Maybe puzzles in a game as action-packed as RE3make would have ruined the pacing, but I would have liked a few more than are present. That’s it! Those are all the negative things I have to say about this game and I can’t wait to play it again and again, as I’ve done every other entry! Expand

I am still upset they cut an hour to two hours story mode and Mercenaries mode to focus on RE online. Finally, and no one is talking about this, there were no multiple epilogues like at the end of the original RE3. I was take it or leave it w/ the choice system or two separate endings. Expand

Just like RE2 remake I couldn’t put this game down. The controls and graphics are quite smooth. The zombies still take a millions bullets to bring down and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Not sure what all the fuss is about but I’ve been enjoying the game so far.

Resident Evil 3: Remake WILL be a decisive game in the community where people will either enjoy it or loathe it. For the purpose of my review, I want to present to you (the reader) with two perspectives:

1: How the game rates against the original
    2. How the game rates against installments of the last few years

By breaking it down in this fashion, hopefully you'll gain a better understanding of why players and critics are so split on the title.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PS1) was always a bit of a departure from its previous installments. Survival action picked up and the game became a bit linear (though there were branching segments). In this regard, RE3: Remake feels like instead of giving you branching arcs, the developers felt compelled to keep channeling the player towards the next objective. This minimizes the amount of backtracking which artifically expanded the gameplay time RE2 and RE7 had. Instead, it's all about escaping as quickly as possible. And, while detractors will find this change annoying, even playing "casually," exploring every nook and cranny along the way, I still found my first play through to be on par with the original. Yes, several aspects of the storytelling have changed. And RE continuity purists are rightfully upset about those changes. However, in the grander scheme of bringing the game forward 21 years, I can understand why those changes occurred; even if I don't agree with them.

As my mentioned previously, the game's run cycle for a single run through is definitely shorter than previous installments. When stacking this game up against them, even the original was drastically shorter. People tend to forget that this was Capcom's "Bridge Baby" (no relation to Hideo Kojima's ;) ) while the developer worked on Resident Evil: Code Veronica. Thus, RE3 was always intended to be used to gauge how respective players would be with more action, less backtracking, and quicker gun play. I would challenge anyone upset with this fact to go back and play Nemesis to feel the comparison to its peers, then come back again to evaluate how similar RE3: Remake is for the current generation.

Fans of the series, and perhaps even new comers will definitely feel the difference as the series was setting up to jump into a new generation (Sega Dreamcast, PS2 and Gamecube). Still visually stunning, full of detail, solid game play mechanics, RE3: Remake will undoubtedly end up just like Nemesis. Loved for the villain, praised for for its strong female protagonist, yet ultimately overshadowed because its departure and playtime ultimately falls short when compared. At least bundled with this is Capcom's experimental multiplayer survival mode which honestly hasn't received the love it deserves. It's an interesting concept which, if people would stop emotionally reacting to everything else, deserves to recognized as Capcom's first solid attempt to bring a cooperative, survival online element into a the RE universe that isn't just a cash grab.

tl;dr - Yes it's shorter than RE2 and RE7. Nemesis was shorter than RE1 and RE2 in the 90s. It's still an enjoyable experience and I would recommend it. Try playing it before reviewing it from YouTube videos.

The map in this game is lazily designed in this game. It is so linear, to the point that it breaks immersion. The story is terrible and poorly written. The characters are very cringeworthy and the voice acting is atrocious. The developers were too lazy to design puzzles. The AI is incredibly stupid in this game. There are no scenarios.

I complained about the lack of multiplayer in RE2 remake, and it's good to see the developers actually listened to my complaints. It's too bad that the multiplayer is garbage in this game. There is only 1 game mode and it is a 4v1 survival mode. The map is too small for a third person shooter. It doesn't help that the player movement and aiming is trash, making this mode tedious. Usually you would expect the multiplayer to be downgraded to help the game run better, but it is the other way around in this game. The multiplayer has better physics and gore than the singleplayer. This goes to show that the singleplayer team is lazy and the production team is horrible. I only recommend this game if it is $5 or less.

To me, the pacing was excellent, and every gameplay section was really cool and fun in some unique way. There was no extra boring padding or bloated feeling to the game. I took my time with the game and tried to collect as much as I could the first time around. It took me about 9 hours to complete. To me, it was a perfect length where the game didn't wear out its welcome. I'd rather the game be focused and shorter than a longer, bloated, drawn out game. Classic RE games usually tended to be shorter anyways, but because they were so tense and engrossing, they were a lot of fun. I love the Nemesis in this game. They did an excellent job on him and pleasantly surprised me. He is a badass adversary and I don't think I've played any other game where their was a villian or unique monster stalking you throughout an entire game. I felt this game was a step up from Resident Evil 2 remake and felt more complete. I loved how they mixed the environments up and had creepy indoor areas and then also bigger open areas. I loved the attention to detail in the apocalyptic areas of Raccoon City. They also did a better job with Jill and Carlos this time in relation to Leon and Claire from RE2. They seemed to have more personality and a modern one too that we can relate to without being too overly cheesy. The cinematics, controls, gameplay, audio design, graphics, and level design were all awesome. I also enjoyed how there were greater unique. creepy enemy variety this time as well as more grotesque enemies and boss encounters. The blood and gore was also very realistic and immersive. Resident Evil Resistance also seems like a good complement to the game. It seems to be of a quality product and have a decent replayability, so it helps strengthen the package. I hope Capcom continues to refine these new RE remakes as they move forward into the future and keep the excellent RE core foundational gameplay they have finally nailed again! Expand

I like it a little more than RE2 and like the added dodge mechanics. RE3 feels a little faster paced on the standard difficulty and has less tedious backtracking IMO. Once again I like this title because you get to spend more time seeing the actual city, and less of the game is spent in underground Umbrella facilities. Those that are complaining about the game length confuse me. All of the original RE 1-3, can be beaten in a little over an hour and thirty minutes. The Resident Evil Gamecube remake can be beaten in about an hour and a half, and the door loading times take up about 25 of those minutes. The RE games are only long the first play through or on more challenging difficulties. Once you know where everything is at you can cruise through the game. En cuanto a la duracion quizá si sea bastante corto pero hasta el original lo era y vaya que es el que dura menos de la saga. Dejen su hate y disfrutenlo

Bet game in about 7 hours and these hours were awesome. In RE2 I don't like 2 things: mostly the same scenario for 2 characters and the fact I can't kill every zombie. In RE3 both issues have bin fixed! And on more thing – quite short game duration could be either advantage or disadvantage. As for me it's a benefit as I don't have much time to play. Resident Evil 3 (2020) reformulates its original source as Resident Evil 2 (2019) did to its source: it respects what made the original enjoyable whilst giving a fun and [even more] terrorizing experience on Jill Valentine's escape from Raccoon City.

Full of thrills, over-the-top combat system and tense moments that will make you jump of your chair, be it from fear or desperation, this game is really well executed as reimagining of 1999's RE3.

Nemesis is relentless, so are the rest of the enemies of the game, and played on Hardcore (as I did) you will have to be glued and really focused on what's coming at you.

When it comes to the nostalgia factor, this game is pretty amazing, be it from certain locations, the soundtrack and even personal relationships. Just like on RE2 Remake, things were reimagined, and with that I mean that things might be as they were originally or they can be displaced on another context, place or time (which worked pretty well on RE2 Remake, and so it does on this one).

The game, depending on how you play it, how many times you die and on which difficulty you choose, can take between 6 to 8 hours, which, albeit inferior to its previous predecessor, still makes for a thrilling ride where you can enjoy every minute of it and not feel that you're rushing things. Even then, though, some parts of the game can feel a bit linear and rushed, and also there can be some missing or incomplete things compared to the original game.

Storywise, the game follows the same line as the original but with more dramatic and interesting nuances, making it have a Hollywood-ish style.

Overall, I was pretty satisfied with this game, and it really put me up on my feet the whole time, never knowing what to expect next, even if I had played the original more than once. Its replayability value is also inherit, with all the collectibles and challenges that await you after finishing it the first time.

    PROS:

    - Haunting Raccoon City
    - Dynamic Combat System
    - Story, Characters and Voice Acting
    - Visuals are amazing, even better than RE2
    - Nemesis, although...

    CONS:
    - ... he could be a little bit more present.
    - Some missing or unexplored original parts that could have been better utilized
    - Dodge mechanic can become a nuisance sometimes
    - Still not being able to use Herbs when picking them up (like in RE4)

    Final Score: 8.4 / 10 (rounded to 8)
    (Initial Score: 9.0)

PS: after further replaying the game and revising my initial impression, I came to the conclusion that I was giving the game more credit than it deserves, considering the length and source material homage aspects, hence why I lowered its score.

Extremely fun, it may be short but if you are only playing through a resident evil game once then you aren’t doing it right, lots of cool unlockables to work towards and I would very much recommend this game

Great and a lot a fun. It’s just as good as the remake of the second game, even tough it’s shorter, and it’s a great shame that the game doesn’t get the same love from critics and fans

Let me just start this off with saying this game is not as great as RE 2 Remake but it is no where near as bad as the fans reviewing it on here say it is. Their is a lot of good thing to this game but I’d like to start off with the bad stuff, the resistance mode isint the greatest but it’s okay it’s not terrible I don’t see myself going back to it but overall not terrible, it’s a bit more action oriented but that’s how the original game was on the Ps one, also theirs just something missing from it that makes this game not stand out as much as RE 2 did last year besides that the game is really good the graphics are great it’s one of the best looking games I’ve played the RE engine is truly fantastic, the gameplay is also great their a few improvements like how your knife doesint break anymore which was always annoying in RE 2 Remake also you have a lot more ammo which sometimes made me not be as scared in situations as I could’ve been also I like playing as Jill better than Carlos but his sections where a nice change of pace. Although Mr X was much more intimidating then Nemesis I enjoyed the spectacle of fighting Nemesis it was fun, Overall I’m not gonna lie I was a bit disappointed by RE 3 Remake but most of the time I was enjoying it and the 6 hours I spent in the game for me where worth the 60 dollars although a lot of people are complaining about how the game is so short it’s about the same length as RE 2 Remake which makes no sense to me I get that theirs two campaigns in RE 2 but you explore the same areas anyways I like the game a lot and I’d recommend it to anyone Expand

Way way too short. It's only 6 hours. It is quite fun whilst it lasts but doesn't feel like a full game. There's also various locations from the original game not even here. No clock tower or park. I was looking forward to giving zombies in the park, and seeing how they re-imagined these classic areas. For a AAA full price game, Capcom are mocking us.

I love the new remake of resident evil 3 when I first played this it take me 8 hours to beat no matter if the game is long or short it’s still a awesome experience in the new RE Engine and I can’t wait for a resident evil 4 remake or a code Veronica remake overall it’s a Great remake S.T.A.R.S

Terrible level design it shows that they just focused on the highlights of RE Nemesis 99’, comparing it to RE 2 Remake this game felt so empty and boring at times by making zombies bullet sponges, and annoying tasks so the game lasts longer. Just by comparing it with the original the puzzles were much better or at least entertaining.

Nemesis wasn’t as good as Mr. X almost as if the complaints about him made them downgrade the chase system and skipping his tentacle mutation. The most enjoyable part of the game is the beginning and it’s just 1/4 of the game.

Boss fights weren’t fun, just gimmicky and wonky.
The camera had the worst angle close-up when fighting a boss made it so annoying at times.

The city felt so empty and again just focusing on the highlights of the original, the time you spend in the city is ridiculous I liked better the unlocking of each section, RE 2 Remake was more faithful in this aspect. I have to say RE 3 is my favorite game of all time and this wasn’t nearly as good as RE 2, I’m so disappointed.

IMPORTANT NOTE: My first playthrough was on Hardcore mode and I finished it in 6 Hours.

Overall an entertaining experience with cool “action packed moments” but a disappointment with the execution of level design and progression, the cinematic experience is good but it would’ve been fun if you at least played the way to the hospital, and sadly that’s pretty much the game “A good looking disappointment”.

And to CAPCOM please make this kind of games in-house, you’ve seen how well did RE 7, RE 2 Remake and Devil May Cry V everyone was happy and at least you felt like those 60 dollars were worth spending.

    Too much hate....

It's a remake of a Classic game, changed the formula and gave it a new lease of life. Great gameplay, a dodge mechanic that actually works. Some set pieces and the spiders missing but other than that, I stuck with this game till I earned the platinum. 23hourss woth

Even though it is a very successful game, you will feel a little disappointed. Compared to the remake of the second game, this one often loses its pace and it is impossible to get rid of the impression that there could and should have been more to this game. [Issue#303]

All we can say is that six hours of Resident Evil 3 is just enough - and we're aware that's both compliment and curse. [Issue#346, p.88]

After a stellar remake of an arguably the best Resident Evil game ever made, Capcom has let down our expectations by giving us a more scripted, more linear survival horror action game that will probably be forgotten like so many sequels that have gone the path of less resistance when it comes to game design. RE3 make feels more like a DLC than a full-blown game.
