This game is so good it set a new standard for future RE games. The only nitpicks I have is the characters should be able to run faster - even for a short period of time - and turn on and off the flashlight at will. Everything else is almost perfect.

I can't describe what this game made me feel. I felt relaxed because of cleaning the map and trying to collect all the objects, but I also had this weird feeling in my stomach because of the zombies that may appear at any moment.

One of the best remakes of games ever made, the game brings new details to the plot giving more cohesion to events. Gameplay as well as all the dynamics and graphics of the game are accurate. Some elements of the classic game were missing. I felt that there was a lack of interaction between the protagonists.

Resident Evil has always been a hallmark of my childhood nostalgia. I remember spending entire nights watching my older brother play through the titles while my father helped solve puzzles and point him in the right direction. Fast forward almost 18 years later, It'd finally be my chance to play a resident evil title on my own. I think the most impressive feat that this game accomplished was it's ability to really go all in on that horror atmosphere that has been missing from the last few titles. In the previous installments (mostly Resident evil 5 and 6) the non-stop action made it a little bit difficult to really embrace its history as a top dog in the survival horror genre. I think Resident Evil 2 Remake is a perfect entry in the series because it really cements this series as one of the greatest of all time. Despite the game being third person and lacking the "tank controls" of the original, I think Capcom did an excellent job portraying Leon's first day on the job through the intentionally clunky controls and the zombies themselves being bullet sponges just like the classic titles. The return of certain enemies allows for some truly dynamic gameplay sequences that make for some really memorable moments. The new and improved layout of the police station along with all of the updated puzzles and level designs does the original plenty of justice. All in all, I think that Resident Evil 2 Remake deserves all of the praise it's gotten and then some for putting Capcom back on the map and restoring the Resident Evil franchise to its former glory. Anyway, so, I wasn't expecting a good story from Resident Evil 2 and I didn't really get a good story; it's not bad, in fact, it managed to surprise me at times but it's just not necessarily good either. It's definitely not an important part of the game though, so it didn't affect my thoughts on the game overall.
The characters are decent; Claire is great, Leon is cool, Ada is fine and the side-characters are okay, even if most of them are not memorable.
The gameplay is amazing though! There's a wide variety of weapons & items, the shooting mechanics feel extremely satisfying and the survival horror elements are wonderful.
The atmosphere and the representation are perfect, and they're accompanied by breathtaking graphics, outstanding audio and absolutely incredible level design. These are some of the most important parts in a survival horror game for me and Resident Evil 2 excels in every single one of them.
Also, the boss fights are surprisingly exciting and interesting, albeit not very well designed for the most part.
I feel like the only serious complaint I have about the game is how the second run feels very similar to the first run and its implementation messes up the story and the backtracking in some instances, unfortunately.

    Pros:
    + Addictive gameplay
    + Superb atmosphere & audio
    + Gorgeous visuals
    + Awesome level design

    Cons:
    - The addition of the second run isn't executed very well

    Narrative: 4/10

This game pulled me in from the get go with the classic Resident Evil corny yet charming dialogue, gruesome and scary set pieces, great and fluid gameplay, and a truthfully terrifying atmosphere. I love the incorporation of Mr. X in this game as he stalks you and lurks around various corners. It's a gameplay element that always keeps you on your toes and makes you think before going certain places or using one of the very sparse resources in the game. Unfortunately, it seems that since this game was a critical and financial success, Capcom will most likely milk these remakes as much as they can(as seen with the lackluster but still passable Resident Evil 3 remake). Ammo synthesis helps your playstyle without making ammo excessive. Extra modes offer more action-packed sequences. This game flows very naturally from start to finish in a classic Resident Evil fashion, starting in an impressive police station that eventually branches into a massive underground lab.

My only real complaint is that it can be easy to manipulate safe rooms to hide from enemies, mainly the guy who relentlessly chases you for a solid portion of the game, Mr. X. It would honestly be pretty fantastic if there was an option to allow him to chase you everywhere, as I consider his presence part of the peak thrill of this experience; It compliments the fluent movements between rooms rather nicely.

    - game is learnable to the point where you can dominate after the first playthrough through sheer knowledge of where things are
    - great reward system that unlocks various permanent rewards
    - the story is simple but well executed
    - the game looks beautiful
    - the sound design is unrivaled

    Cons
    - while the game offers scenario A and B for both characters, not much changes besides the first five and the last five minutes

This is a remake of one of the classic horror games that completely redefines the word remake. When I hear about a game being remade and remastered for the modern consoles it usually means that they added three pixels to a single can in level 3 and that is it. However, RE2 is a completely new game made from the ground up and given so much love, care and attention that it came out as one of the most beloved games of the modern generation.

Top to bottom this game looks beautiful and sounds just divine. I swear to god if you play this with a solid pair of headphones you can avoid enemies just by hearing them from around a corner perfectly. The spatial awareness this sound system allows is unlike anything I have ever seen.

Segmented into four different scenarios, you can attack this game from any direction you like. You can play as either Leon or Claire, each with their own unique arsenal of weapons, their own stories, their own unique bosses and even their own separate sections of the game.

The only place where the game stumbles is the differences between the A and B scenarios. Sure there are differences like different solutions to the various puzzles, but if you played Leon A and went into Leon B, besides the first cutscene and the unique pathing in the first five minutes, the playthrough is identical story wise, besides once again, the final five minutes. Cutscenes and all.

This however is not as big of a deal for me, as I had plenty of fun speedrunning through the game after my first playthrough, in order to get the S tier playthroughs. Hardcore brings its own unique challenge, with limiting the inventory slots upgrades from six to three and requiring items found in the game to save.

Overall, RE2 Remake should be a gold standard on how to bring an old classic to modern audiences. If you have not played this gem, you won't regret picking it up.

The sound design is spot-on, with every creak and groan in the background adding to the tension and fear.

The gameplay is just as good as the graphics and sound. The controls are tight, and the combat is satisfyingly challenging. The puzzles are clever and engaging, and they fit seamlessly into the narrative. The game is also optimized for the PS4, with smooth and fluid gameplay.

The story follows Leon and Claire, two characters trying to survive a zombie apocalypse in Raccoon City. The narrative is gripping, and the characters are well-written and engaging. The game also features multiple endings, giving players a reason to replay the game.

Overall, Resident Evil 2 is a must-play game for fans of the genre. The game's pacing, graphics, sound, and gameplay all come together to create a terrifyingly great experience. The game does have some minor flaws, but they do not detract from the overall experience. The game earns a 9/10 rating on Metacritic.

The music was also missing from the game most of the time. The original RE2 had one of the best soundtracks and it was sad that it wasn't in the remake unless you bought it for extra. I hope they continue with this horror route for the future games. It was great to play some classic Resident Evil. I think they could improve in some aspects though. The campaigns didn't feel like a full story and the game felt a bit rushed towards the end. The separate campaigns hardly intertwined also. Cons: The different story lines... don't fit together at all. I was expecting the A & B stories to be intertwined and complement each other. However, this isn't the case, the plot of those supposedly different stories don't align, they are more or less the same, but with different characters & weapons. Weirdly enough, certain enemies have a completely different fate depending on which story you chose - which makes no sense and feels like this aspect has either been rushed and/or not been cared about. The old games were much better in this regard, and I can't help but think that if Shinki Mikami still worked for Capcom, he would never have let such an obvious flaw come into the game.

This is my biggest issue with the game, and the reason why I can't give it more than 8/10.

Zombie behaviour and procedural damage is probably the best I've ever seen, making you feel part of a horror movie. The 4 main campaigns offer some additional replayability, although each person will probably find a favourite among the arrangements. Hunk and Tofu(s) return, along with a handful of super weapons to unlock through rankings, all offering a decent sized package. On the downside, as a RE4 fan, I feel like much of that game has been left to die and sadly the combat of this game doesn't come close to RE4's, nor does it have the variety of weaponry, upgrades and lacks the specifics of the inventory system. There are also not that many enemy types (which you could argue was a restriction of the source material in a way, but I feel there was room for a few additions). On top of this, Mr X's behaviour can be irritating at times, rather than horrific. Once you learn his rules, there are times when you're just running around trying to get thing done and he's wasting time rather than feeling like a threat. Also for me personally, I found the random head durability of the zombies to be aggravating at times, as you never know if they will take 12 shots or even just 1. So the optimum way to deal with most enemies is actually to run away, which doesn't suit my play style. With all this said, I feel like this is the second strongest RE game, after RE4. It beats the original and all other RE games in my view. Expand

Puzzles are decent and the game is helping to guide you. I love the new map system that help showing icons of items around you and the idea of hip pouch ; item that add more space in your inventory. However, there are two reasons that I deduct the points from 10 to 8

    1. Story - 1st and 2nd scenario have very little differences, and story in both Leon and Claire are not strong enough in my opinion. I think Leon and Claire should have more chances to meet with each others. Story could be more engaging, rather than just a reason for you to go to next location.

2.The price is a little too high for the content. It took me 9 hours to beat Leon and 6.5 hours for Claire. However, for Claire, they mostly use the same locations from Leon. The content is lacking.(There are a lot of backtracking too, so the real value hours in content should be very short,) I think the right price should be 40-50 USD for a remake.

In conclusion, Resident evil 2 remake is a epitome of a game that has amazing quality but poor quantity, unless, you don't mind running the same locations ofc. Still, when I compare this game with Last of us, which is the same genre (and I gave Last of us 10/10) , Resident Evil 2 is clearly not that level yet. I think 8/10 is fair score for RE2 remake. I would love if Capcom add more contents and deepen the story. It is surely intense terrifying game. I have a great time with it, but it is too short for a 60 USD game.

Resident Eveil 2 Remake is of course a remake of the 1998 classic with the same name, the heart of what makes Resident Evil 2 Resident Evil 2 still beats in this updated body.
Resident Evil 2 is a survival horrors game that tells the story of Leon and Clair, youre able to choose which character to play as.. Your initial playthrough of this game will take around 6 and a half hours, but much like nier automata, technically the fully game is both playthroughs combined, but also like nier automata, nah, when the credits roll, the credits roll. Youre missing only a sliver of unique sections by only playing one side of the story, you can get the rest from youtube as for the most part, each playthrough shares the same main sections and boss fights… I chose to play as rookie officer Leon Kennedy that sets out to put a stop to umbrella corp after an outbreak of a virus turns the citizens of ratcoon city into zombies, This is very much a fetch quest, explore, backtrack, save, combine, set up, and execute type of game.. one that can at first feel quite overwhelming, but once you get into the groove of things its satisfying exploring every inch of a room for key, items, and clues to safes for uprades so that youre able to carry more items in your inventory or upgrade your weapons, and the game does a great job at color coding rooms where you still have items to search for or that are completely cleaned out, so you never feel like youre running around with your head cut off…though in your way of each room are zombies, youlls spend most of your time in the first hours of this game boarding up windows, and trying to gather everything you can to survive as you inch your way through this massive police station, solving small problems that lead to a chain reaction of large problems being solved.. all while being stalked by an invincible monster, but like resident evil 7, the moment the game ventures away from the beginning section into new areas, the game starts to lose its charm and by its end becomes a bit of a chore to get through.. though the keyword here is bit, because it still manages to be enjoyable and it sways on the verge of chore, just as you begin to feel the loop of the game is getting old, its nearing its end… resident evil puts a nice bow on top and gives you the option to do it one more time for more scenarios, cutscenes, and the true ending…
And this is where I happily walked away.
Resident Evil 2 does a great job at being an enjoyable and terrifying experience, it doesn’t over stay its welcome, it never becomes frustrating, it never does too much of the same thing… this is a near perfectly balanced survival horror type game.. it stays true to what it was, and brings it up to todays standards so that we can all enjoy it in the way most remember it,
    I give Resident Evil 2

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You did a wonderful job Capcom. You managed to give new life to a masterpiece, and this is a rarity. As a RE and a horror videogame in general, it won everything.
But, I have to say that making us do the same puzzles again in scenario 2, with the same boss battles and etc, wasn't a good idea. Furthermore, the story of Leon can't mix properly with the background's story. There is no point for him to fight Birkin. I'm not pleased with scenario 2 at all(and Leon's story in general), it felt like a waste of time, more like a way to extend the longevity of the game.

If I should give a feedback, how I would have done it and what I would love to see one of these months, is one more "canon" scenario(fixed in Claire 1, Leon 2), where Leon doesn't need to do the same things Claire did. He should just be a witness of Claire's doing, with all the puzzles solved and all Birkin's battles avoided.
You should just put the two electronic parts in the rooms exclusive to Leon, make him find the medikit that he uses on Ada(that currently is coming from nowhere)and make Leon meet Annette while she is preparing the solution to weaken Birkin(or maybe let him read one of her documents about the truth on Ada, or let her speak with him trough the speaker), without Ada being shot. Lastly, put more enemies for Leon to fight. The zapping system should return too, allowing him to access to all Claire's items stored in the box, excluding her weapons. This way there are less puzzles but a more challenging quest. The scenario is not too long, but it would be a bonus to what the game already offers.

The game uses the same blueprint as the older titles and introduces new elements such as a 3rd person point of view (like after the 4th game) and autosave and so forth while still retaining the tactical element of the older ones such as saving your ammo and not killing every enemy in your way. Where the game does better than the original is the horror aspect as the generic zombies you've seen in many RE and other games are not just a simple "shoot them in the head and be done with it" no they take a lot more sometimes even a shotgun blast to the head cant kill them instantly so you have to be careful with your shots. I could go on and on about the good things of this game but as a remake this game is a little bit a hit and miss. Let's start with the music. Ok it's not bad I mean it is almost non existent throughout the game I mean there are a few good tracks such as the save room theme and Mr. X's themes but all and all the original soundtrack is much more memorable. Secondly I would like to talk about the enemy types. Well the enemies we get in this are fine. Aside from your typical undead we get mutants who spit poison which makes your characters weaker and need for anti-poisoning healing items, plant zombies or whatever they are that kill you in one hit if you don't have an defensive item on you to escape their grasp, and also zombie dogs. Comparing to the original there aren't so many enemy variations so that bothers me a little but it's a personal opinion I think they tried to make the game more realistic in tone so maybe skip the mutants spiders then, they would've been cool tho. And lastly the A and B scenarios or as in this one they are called "2nd run" which you unlock for the other character after completing the game once with a character. You've probably heard this one if you have read some reviews but yeah this was done better in the original.
Resident Evil 2 2019 is one of the better games in the series and an excellent survival horror game no doubt about that but a few things keep it from being the best RE. The original felt more grander is scale and more full or something I don't know how to say it, but one thing is for sure Resident Evil is back on its feet and slowly stumbling towards the future of survival horror.

An excellent remake overall. Great graphics and does a somewhat better justice to the original RE2. My only gripe is worse dialogue and voice acting, so so inventory layout with limited space and a quick ending, we're talking less than twenty seconds it seems. I will definitely pick this up when it drops in price but no way is it worth the whole $60. I really hope they do remake ResidentAn excellent remake overall. The highlight of Resident Evil 2 is Mr. X chasing you and I could see Nemesis being really enjoyable. Expand

I'm not gonna compare it to the classic. It's a good game. You'll be entertained for the next ten hours or so. But I expected a different campaign for each of the characters and it wasn't like that at all. A game that if you find it under 20 euros, it's good for a weekend.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is really well done, I cannot say anything bad about how graphics looks or how realistic the scenery was made. Seriously, Capcom knew what to do in that aspect, but then we have the new soundtrack which is the most forgettable one I have ever heard. Nothing good, even though some people put their hearts and time to create it and I respect that. This game lacks on content to keep me hocked for more than a week. I finished both campaigns and their respective B-scenario and this weird feeling was left inside of me after finishing it. I know some DLC is in our way but they should put that content within the full game, not as a DLC. Still, I’m glad they made this game and hopefully RE3 will get the same treatment as this game. The story is corny, but everything else is pretty good. Specially level design, item placement and atmosphere. Overall a fun game with some genuine terrifying moments.

A great remake of a classic. The original RE2 defines the genre. The remake brings it to the modern standard.

Remakes and re-releases are all the jazz this day and age, but rarely are they worth you shelling out a full $60 for it. Resident Evil 2 is a shinning exception in the remake world. Capcom took a game many missed out on, and some remember fondly and made a game that functions like a modern game without losing the spirit of the original series.

Capcom took a game many missed out on, and some remember fondly and made a game that functions like a modern game without losing the spirit of the original series.

The story is split up to follow two different character that are going for very similar goals. You can play as either Leon Kennedy the boyband lead singer of Raccoon City or Claire Redfield the little sister to everyone’s favorite boulder punching zombie killer. The stories are similar, but not the exact same so it’ll be favorable to play both and get a feel on who you enjoy playing as more. I played Leon’s story and honestly there isn’t much to it in the cut scene realm of things. Most of the story is told through these documents you pick up and are supposed to read. I personally wouldn’t recommend this game for story but the gameplay.

The gameplay is fantastic… mainly in the beginning. The first part of the game is suspenseful and the zombie killing is very satisfying. My first encounter with a Licker was intense with how they move and will jump at you. The resource management has been made way easy due to the map telling you rooms you need to get stuff and unlimited saving. That being said; I learned early on to not and try and kill every zombie in the game because you will run low on bullets when they count. The game loses me when they introduce Mr. X. He is a unkillable hulking dude in a trench coat who just chases you everywhere in the game. The first two times he appeared it was nerve racking. After that it was tedious, and it turned into a game of tag basically while I tried to solve the puzzles. I lost a lot of enjoyment from the game the moment he was introduced because it was just annoying running away every time he got near. My personal favorite part of the game is how the zombies take damage. You can blow off limbs or when you shoot them in the head the entrance hole is just there. This is a minor thing that I got a major kick out of.

Overall the game is a great horror game that unfortunately lost me with the game of chase. It looks beautiful and the new combat is my favorite the series has ever done. Is it scary? No. Does it has suspense? Hell Yes. I am very mixed on this only because I hated the Mr. X stuff so much but loved the parts without him. I give this game a Full Price still. I think people need to check it out because despite the issue I have I have to admit it is a very solid game.

Capcom understood how a Survival horror should be, and they did very well with this in every aspect. Bravo !!!

This is surely a great game and remake. However, it is a bit short. Yes, there is a 2nd run but the locations are the same and while there are variations, they are too similar. The atmosphere of horror is overwhelming and proves that in 2019 there is a place for a Resident-like story in which the modern visuals heighten and not lessen the fear. It’s the best Resident Evil ever. [03/2019, p.40]

Resident Evil 2 is a wonderful recreation of a believed original that, not only recaptures the glory of that game, but also improves upon it from a visual and gameplay standpoint. All in all, don’t miss out on this one.
