As the game's title suggests, there is something broken, referring to the state of the game perhaps? This game is very glitchy that constantly interrupts whatever flow this game has. This game is very glitchy that constantly interrupts whatever flow this game has. These glitches include some character models freezing, or in some instances the UI completely disappearing and prevents you from interacting with any other objects or characters. Speaking of, the characters are very one dimensional which isn't surprising considering the writing and voice acting is clunky, awkward, wooden, cringey and ham-fisted which has the added bonus of being horribly synched.

Let's talk about the Combat. It's very frustrating as movement is very stiff, not in the way that Tank Controls establishes tension, when trying to take on the few enemies you do have. This is because stealth and diversion items are so flimsy and troublesome it's hard to even pull off an attack so you're better off just running away which in turn leads to you bumbling about the place in such a graceless manner. However, if you do decide to engage the enemy you'll most likely succumb to dying typically in the fashion of being blocked into a corner or object while the enemies will deplete your health. Also, there's a stamina bar that's redundant as you have unlimited sprint which is properly a glitch as there's upgrades to increase your stamina.

The main appeal of the game for me was the setting, tone and originality. All were very interesting and level design at times immersed you in that feeling of being in a 70's hotel which added to the sense of eeriness. The Red Nun is a well designed character and is probably a standout positive in the game. When you get into the motion of things, the game has its charm (I actually jumped a few times with well placed jump scares) and you can actually have fun but is usually short lived due to the next game breaking glitch lurking around the corner or unrendered textures that breaks that engrossment.

The plot is all over the place and is incredibly hard to keep up with constant time jumping and character switching. However, there are things to like about the game for sure but overall, it's bogged down by many technical faults.

It's difficult not to have the feeling of playing something incomplete and sloppy which ultimately, despite some good ideas, does not honor the big names in the horror world from which it is inspired.

If only the team behind Remothered: Broken Porcelain spent more time working on crucial plot points, character motivation and gameplay mechanics, then we could have a rather good game on our hands. As of now Broken Porcelain is just full of game breaking bugs, some of which the devs are desperately trying to get rid of. If you're planning to buy Remothered: Broken Porcelain anyway, at least wait some time before the game will be fixed.

While this bug-infested horror doesn’t quite inspire us to grab the fly swat, we can’t recommend this in its current state. However, its few bright spots draw us like a moth to a flame. [Issue#182, p.152]
