    An absolute masterpiece. This is my favorite game I have ever played. Unmatched story and characters. Arthur Morgan is my favorite video game character ever and the ending makes me cry every single time. Gameplay can be wonky at points, but the depth of the world Rockstar built will remain unmatched in my mind. This is nearly a perfect game.

    The game provides a beautiful open world that feels alive and effective. Each and every character of the gang is perfectly written and gives them personality and Arthur Morgan is my favourite game character as you spend 60 + hours connecting with him

    When it comes to game design this is preobably one of the best there is, a masterpiece even, but i do think the story and side quests are over hyped as many class this as being better than games like the witch and I just cannot agree

    Rdr2 gives you a slow and relaxing gamestyle. The game is trying to make you thankful for everything in this game. This is implemented by some psychological tricks in part 3 of the story. Rdr 2 is not a gta in western style. It's a game that will make you feel sad and let you regret your decisions made. Its a type 2 fun.

    I really wanted to like this game, but it is just too repetitive. The controls are so slow it makes you want to give up on the game after 30 minutes. It does get better once you get used to it. The story and ending are amazing.

    Red Dead Redemption 2 is by far the best game I've ever played, and I've played The Witcher 3.
    The story , graphics , motion capture , animations and so much more are just perfect in this game.

    I've just finished this game for the second time and I absolutely love it. The graphics are outstanding, the attention to the smallest of details are just incredible, the story is moving. I love how slow paced the game is and how fast it can turn on a sixpence and you are caught in the middle of a massive gunfight. While at its core it is a beautifully crafted and engaging experience the moment to moment gameplay within had me constantly asking the question am I having fun, and for the most part I was but not always....

    Story - RDR2's story follows that of Arthur Morgan, surrogate Big Bro to John Marston and Dutch Vanderlin's bff. It chronicles the fall of the Vanderlin gang and how event of RDR's opening came into being. This is mostly told through story missions and cinematics, which for all intensive purposes are pretty good. A lot of missions in this game kept me engaged or interested in the plot and goings on of the gang members. This worked... for a while. Where in beginning you just happen to be on the horse one more time, experiencing the life of an outlaw at around the half way to 2/3s mark the event of the game begin feel like they're repeating themselves up until the climactic ending sequence. Then you play epilogue. Ultimately the story of RDR2 is a wonderful slough which you will be happy to to be finished by the end, but when its finally over you can't help but miss it.

    Gameplay - The beauty and flaw of RDR2's gameplay is in those moments between the big set piece shoot outs and the cutscenes. Its doing the little things in the game like harassing people on the street and hearing their response, or running into highways thugs and taking them out or just going fishing. While the gunplay and big story arch's are still enjoyable its the little bits and baubles that really tie it all together and keep you going. Just riding around I found myself asking question like should I save the lady being kidnapped on horse back or I wonder what this strange man in the park is calling me over for. Little moment like that make up the highlights reel for the game while its the big set piece to set piece story mission had me feeling bogged down when they popped up. These little moment are where it feel like the devs were able to actually have fun and experiment with what possible in this world of satire and sadism.

    While not a masterpiece, this game is no where near unplayable. At times being boring and repetitive and other engaging and visceral, the little moment that stick with you really show you why Rockstar is still considered one of the top game development studios to date, but also why they need to shake up their formula and get comfortable going outside the box more often then not.

Это лучшая история, которую я встречал. Даже переплюнул экзы сони, хотя я их тоже люблю. Год назад оценка была в районе 6-7, сейчас уже почти 9 и это о многом говорит. Вы получите огромное удовольствие, это не еbyчий гринд от юбисофт, где люди тратят по 80 часов на пустоту. Это 50 часов насыщенного, не быстрого геймплея, атмосферы, саундтрека, истории. This game is based before the original game so it doesn't matter if you didn't get the opportunity to play the original from back in the day. I managed to grab a copy in a local store for £15 so I could play through on my Playstation for trophies and I had also completed it on my PC. This game has so much to do and the graphics are outstanding. Even the physics are just amazing. Normally horse riding in games feels basic but this game just gets it near perfect. The characters in this game are so well written and you and they all bring something to the game. I never felt anyone or anything was there for no reason. It makes me sad that Rockstar never release story games anymore as they purely just focus on releasing 1 game with multiplayer and then rinsing it dry. I just wish they would do campaign DLCs like Destiny 2. When they do release a game with a story you cannot deny that they always do it well. The game was also a decent size and packed with main missions and side missions. You also got random other things that you can do along the way. Like sometimes you help random pedestrians and they mite give you a map or intel on a place you can rob for some extra cash. No matter what there is always something you can do. If you are nice to your horse you build up a bond with it allowing you to gain extra skills with it like strafing or sliding. 1 thing that was disappointing is that the city Saint Denise (I think that's the name) was tiny. It didn't feel right because it was all themed and built like a city but it probably had about 10 buildings. It was more like a large town but with a city theme. It just didn't make sense to make it so small when you got such a big open map. You can travel through it in about 15 seconds which is just silly when its supposed to be a city.
    If you haven't played this game then you have to grab it now and play it. I am shocked that this hasn't got a must play badge.    … Expand

Main story is prefect and it takes about 2 chapters to build the characters. for me, this is not a problem, i think it’s important to build the characters even it takes a lot of time. Every side mission have its own story and characters.

I can't think of a more realistic and living virtual world, where even something as mundane as sitting in a train and reading the newspaper feels so real. The game of course has its 3rd person shooter style action sequences, but they are fewer then you'd think. My only complaint would be that the law/wanted system is too harsh and quick to respond.

    This is absolutely the best videogame I’ve ever played. I wish my memory erased so I can have that experience once again. It’s unforgettable. Lucky me, I decided to play this game only now when i have ps5 and 65’ tv. Thank God. And thank you Rockstar. That was amazing 80+ hrs.

    -Story is good but unfortunately also piles the responsibility of being a good cowboy to fulfill the “Redemption” part of Red Dead Redemption 2 which can be boring. Let me do outlaw stuff in a game about outlaws Rockstar, without bounty hunters coming after me after I’ve escaped the law or after death. Do anything bad = having to pay ridiculous amounts of money to clear your name. The game dissuades and discourages you from playing it like past Rockstar open world titles
    -Terrible pacing. The game is just simply too long and the story doesn’t get interesting until the end of Chapter 3. By then I’d put over 30 hours into this game. It shouldn’t take 30+ hours to finally get into a story. And even when I finally got into it, I just couldn’t be bothered to finish the game due to the boring minute to minute gameplay
    -Realism Schemalism: There’s attention to detail and then there’s obsession with detail. RDR2’s realism is too much that it actually ends up getting in the way of enjoying the game as a game. Get ready to trade in your real life responsibilities and chores for digital video game ones… including, but not limited to: tapping X/A on your controller to get around anywhere on this overly large map (Larger than GTA V and that game had cars, planes, Jets, etc… and fast travel isn’t unlocked til later in the game), feed Arthur, bathe Arthur, refill your health, stamina and dead eye core, contribute to the camp’s fund box, wear the appropriate clothes for the appropriate weather, bring food back to camp, feed your horse, pat your horse, brush your horse, buy horse reviver before long trips because your horse can die, get stranded in the middle of nowhere and be forced to walk up to 10 minutes because your horse has a maximum whistle hearing range, clean your guns, equip your guns from your horse because you can’t carry all your weapons on your person because… realism… hooray. It’s not fun, it’s tedious for the sake of being tedious and slow.

    Objective Cons:
    -Bad/clunky controls
    -If you played the original Red Dead Redemption, you already know how the story ends so the story doesn’t carry as much weight


    Let me preface this by saying I’ve generally been a lifelong fan of Rockstar Games and the Open World experiences they create. After playing the masterpiece that is Red Dead Redemption 1, I had high expectations for Red Dead Redemption 2. Those expectations were not met, but more importantly, neither were the expectations I’ve come to expect from a Rockstar Open World game. For as long as I can remember, Rockstar Games have emphasized and prioritized player freedom into the core design of their open world games. Red Dead Redemption 2 seems more interested in showing off how realistic a game can be and telling its slog of a story rather than on what the player can, or what the player wants to do. No, I wasn’t expecting something like GTA but I expected something more along the lines of the first Red Dead Redemption. The prequel was more grounded in reality than the likes of something like GTA but it still knew it was a game and still let you have your fun within the open world. In contrast, Red Dead Redemption 2 actively feels like it punishes the player for trying to play the game like you would any other past Rockstar Game… it feels more restrictive. This game doesn’t ask you to play it, it asks you to live it. Unfortunately, most days I simply want to come home and escape the mundane and monotonous aspects of life by playing a video game that lets me escape. Red Dead Redemption 2 only confronts the player with more chores and responsibilities, and unlike other games, doesn’t even try to gameify the responsibilities. Albeit digital, chores still feel like chores. Overall, a game that has the potential to be this boring and dull gameplaywise can never be considered a 10 by anyone that considers themselves a fan of the vide game medium.    … Expand

    Best story of all time, a top tier protagonist, Micah and Dutch were amazing as antagonistic characters. All of the characters felt real and live without exception apart from Pearson who I never really felt like was a defined character. I would pay good money to play this game for the first time again. It is easily better than God of War, Last of Us, Spiderman 2018, Detroit Become Human and Skyrim. The last part of Chapter 6 was the best hour of gaming I've ever played. I had never cried to any piece of media but I cried 3 times during this. Once when John and Arthur had that nice "Thank you brother" moment, when Arthur died and after the epilogue when it showed Arthurs grave, I cried more then than I have for years.    … Expand

The problem is that once you let the graphics aside,This has been my greatest disappointment of PS4 generation. I've played it on 2022 on a PS5. Maybe for that reason the graphics didn't blow my mind, comparing to more recent games. But that's not the problem. Graphics are good even now, and it's easy to understand that back on the day it was released people thought they were amazing. The problem is that once you let the graphics aside, there's nothing else into this game.

    First of all, the controls feel slow and clumsy. That makes the experience uncomfortable, and the feeling doesn't go away after hours and hours of gameplay: you never get used to it. Besides, many actions require stupid button combinations that other games solve in a much simpler way. C'mon, why would I need to hold L2 while I choose an action with another button just to choose what do I want to say to an NPC? Instead of changing to the dialogue menu, as everybody else does? That's not innovative, is making complex a simple thing. The same goes for the menus. I've seen simpler menus to choose what magic, among all, do I want to use on FFVII Remake, for example, than to choose what medicine should I use on RDR2.

    And here cames the worst: the game is terribly boring. It's like the creators didn't want you to play it, but just to sit down and watch it like a film. I really love single player narrative games, but most of them (Horizon saga, GOW, Uncharted saga, ...) try to involve the player to PLAY a story, giving that "play" part the importance it deserves. Here, it's more like if you have to make a constant effort to let the anti-player-quality-of-life mechanics pass. For example, if you fail a mission, you will start it again from the very beggining, because there is no autosave during missions, nor any chance to manually save your progress. Now, think of a mission that lasts, let's say 40 minutes, where everything gets more difficult during the last 10 minutes. You'll have to repeat every part, including cinematic sequences (some you can skip, some you can't). That doesn't make the game more difficult -just more tedious.

    When it cames to the story, I think it's well told, but the rythm is too slow. It's just as if there was the intention to make it long with content that is not that interesting. That makes the story interesting at some key moments, but too irregular. I didn't feel close to the characters at all, but this last point could be just me, and with no doubt the anti-plyer-quality-of-life mechanics I talked about didn't make me be in the best mood to feel close to anything in the game.

    To sum up, I had really high expectations for this game because of the high rating, the GOTY and all, and it totally let me down. I tried to enjoy it, really tried it because once you spend the money you want to make it count, but I ended up focussing on finishing it as quick as possible to pass to a more enjoyable game.    … Expand

    It all started in 2010 when I first dove into the start of a life long love for the outback western era. Red dead redemption for me is the best game ever made, followed closely by red dead redemption 2. No complaints from me… this game is almost perfect

    Amazing not only for Western lovers. No other game has probably offered so many options to express yourself in the open world, and at the same time did not have such an interesting, rough and moving story. A magnificent experience, with a slightly slower start. [Issue#291]
