    this game is between minecraft like freedom in the open wolrd and a uncharted style missions.
    i think that the best example of this is the bank robbery mission because theres so many things that are complety diffrent in the open world.
    -you rob a bank wich is impossible
    -you get 2500 dollars wich is enought to buy every single gun and upgrade to the camp.
    -you dont get a state wide bounty
    -you dont get a wanted level-cops just kinda show up from diffrent directions.
    and if you run on your horse too fast you can even fail the mission wich is kinda funny.

    in conlusion:
    missions in this game want to be an uncharted like experience game tolds you what to do and if you attempt anything diffrent - mission failed
    open world wants to be like minecraft-it gives you tools and you make the stories but. it cant because
    everything cool is locked behind a missions. you dont wanna exprole because if something intresting was there it would of be behind a marker.

    A game made with love and soul. It has its faults, but has 100s of hours of content, great characters, phenomenal gunplay and physics and a great story.

    After a cinematic and slow start, you are released into one of gaming's finest worlds. The level of detail and immersion is insane, there is a lot to do and keep you busy. The fantastic hunting, many side quests, minigames and secret locations make you fall in love with this stunningly varied world. I spent many hours just riding around the wild areas in the westerly portion of the map, fishing, hunting and hiking around the beautiful landscapes.

    Despite this, it is surprising how limited you are in terms of options sometimes. There aren't really a lot of different ways to tackle situations. Stealth barely works outside of scripted moments, the environments don't really help you kill enemies, so your only option really is to go in guns blazing. You won't die and you never run out of ammo, or money for that matter. There are other issues as well, for example: it would be so immersive to be able to smoke a cigarette for longer, like in the online portion. While what there is is incredible, it's very linear at times for what is supposed to be an open world game.

    Now, the story. The characters are amazing. So unique, funny, interesting and dynamic. Walking around the gang's camp and just interacting with this amazing cast is fantastic fun, and always brings interesting moments to the table. It feels very authentic. The story, however, is where the game can fail sometimes. I was enthralled in the first half, but after chapter five I just became disillusioned with the story points of the game. You have all these pots of the boil, all these fragile characters and plot points ready to burst in an incredible flame of pure art, but instead they just put on more pots, and pour in more water, until there's just too much stuff left untied that it feels worthless.

    However, those first 4 chapters are so amazing, and in honesty, chapter six has some highlights as well. I think the ending was well done, but there is such a clear path to everything that the moral ambiguity of it all becomes so plain and simple.

    The gameplay itself is well done in most areas. The controls are pretty all over the place at times, but overall feel fluent. Animations are very slow, but I didn't really mind this. The crafting and such is very simple, it's much more about going after the ingredients than anything else. The shooting is also fantastic, very fluent and easy to pick up. But the main component of this game, the glue that holds it all in place; is your horse. You ride your horse a lot in this game. A LOT. I'd say about 80% of this game is spent on a horse. I'm not joking. You go from wherever you are, to your mission marker, and then spend most of the mission; on your horse. If that sounds totally dreadful, maybe don't pick up this game. I didn't mind, to be honest. The world is so stunning and the little things that happen along the way (as well as the dialogue in missions) kept me entertained as I steered my horse along the little dirt paths of 1899 America.

    The visual style and atmosphere are unparalleled. The graphics are stunning, with crisp sunlight pouring in over the snowy mountains, stagnant water coating the swamp, and rolling hills in the great plains. The attention to detail in every texture is jaw dropping, and I spent lots of time just taking it in. The music is also amazing, with toned-down atmospheric pieces playing wherever I went.

    Overall, this is one of my favourite games ever made. Despite it's many shortcomings, this is overall a deep, interesting and immersive experience that the average gamer will absolutely enjoy.    … Expand

    I can give hundred out of ten. I played Arthur Morgan's biography after work, keeping my sleep down. I felt as if I'm him. And I'm still enjoying many things in this game after the whole story is over.

    This game is a marvel the open world is beautiful and it's really emersive the side missions feel like main missions the mail story is a roller coaster of emotions and action. this game is worth getting even if you dont like westerns .This is one of my favorite games of all time.

    outstanding gameplay with amazing graphics and story. The multiplayer mode adds a lot of fun. The only thing is it's on the pricy side and you're going to need a good graphics cards and good storage.

Yes they both have the same mission structure etc but rdr has always been Rockstars way of getting out a series and moving story. GTA is more of a comedy game where rdr feels like a Hollywood movie. This game moved me in a way I have never felt in gaming or watching a movie and for that it shows that Rockstar are not slowing down and continue to make the masterpieces people expect from Rockstar games. I truly cannot wait to see what Rockstar deliver next and all I can say is I bet it's going to be another masterpiece. If you still haven't played this game in 2021 what are you doing? go buy it and see for yourself why this game is one of the greatest pieces of art of all time.     Amazing, full of detail, best graphics of this generation. The story is the best ever told by Rockstar with well done protagonist you get invested not only in the story missions but side stories in the fantastic full of live detailed world. A must play. No flows. 10/10

    Pretty graphics and dangling horse balls but also pretty boring - I have nothing against wild west and like roaming open worlds but after playing for 5h I didnt feel like Im having any fun, no sense of urgency, purpose and no emotional investment (which are essentiql to having fun when playing imo)

    I was hooked from the first moment, and amazing cinematic experience, very nice graphics and very very very good story that makes it so easy to connect with the world of the game, I loved the gameplay which isn't anything new but very well executed, and I love the music and how they structured the quests.     I HATED this game at first! I came late to the party and found the controls to be challenging at first, and I hated Dutch shouting 'what are you doing Arthur' at me. HOW WRONG I WAS! I left it for a year, played loads of other games and returned to experience one of the best games I've ever played....simply FANTASTIC! The attention to detail is incredible, the storyline is so engaging,I HATED this game at first! It has the illusion of being an open world game, but there are very limited things you can do.

    First off the bounty system is broken. If you try to be an outlaw you will have a bounty placed on you. From time to time magical bounty hunters who seem to have cell phones and the ability to teleport always find you. Odds are they will kill you because the shooting mechanics in this game are very weak. Thats par for the course with Rock Star games. Robbing a train in single player outside of a mission is rather pointless. Once you dispatch all the guards on the train who are immediately alerted to your activities, the train comes to a screeching halt. This happens without fail and more law men appear out of no where and they will continue to do so. Sure you can try and rob a train, but it will end up costing you so much more in the long run.

    Truthfully this game wants you to just play the story missions. Hunting is a complete waste of time and you make so little money doing it, that its not worth doing at all. The game is at its best when you stick to the story. The map size is not the biggest they have ever made. Sure it takes forever to get anywhere and fast travel isn't really a thing. Sure you can hop on a train or take a stage coach, but the stage coach wont take you if you have a bounty.

    The game only holds an sense of realism onto the player. The world and all the NPCs in it seem to be able to do whatever they like without consequence. Stop a murder by killing someone and you will likely be reported for murder. The game doesn't want you to be an outlaw although your character is and if you try to be one it will punish you.

    Honestly for all the hype this game is a huge disappointment and missed the mark. It isn't even close to being as good a game as GTA V. I commend them for trying, but it is truly limited by the time period. Whats really disappointing is they didn't really improve upon Red Dead Redemption. I would dare say that game was better than this one.

    Also at the time of this writing there is no multiplayer. Even when it comes out there won't be much to do. This game will be forgotten in no time because it just isn't that fun. They tried to put fun things in it, but it isn't enough to make it enjoyable. For instance you can put a mask on your character when committing crimes. Despite this everyone knows who you are immediately, no matter what. Makes me wonder why this mechanic is even in the game. Seems to me it was just a story mechanic.

    I would say either don't buy the game or wait for a sale. Also play it with a pillow near by because its a snooze fest. If you have anger issues avoid this game as it will make you want to punch anything around you.    … Expand

    The game is excellent, although not without flaws.
    I'll start with good, great graphics and optimization, but for my taste - a cool plot, albeit a little long. The most important thing is just a great open world, I just get tired of describing everything, I probably don't even know everything. Of the minuses, I can mention the police system and swimming. 10/10

    Its a masterpiece. No debate. The sometimes slow Gameplay makes it more grounded in my opinion. The Voice acting is amazing. The Story is great. rockstars best game. One of the best alltime.

    Actual masterpiece. Everything is awesome, physics, story, characters, graphics, EVERYTHING is perfect. It's scary how perfect this game is. This sets a standard for gaming, don't listen to the reviews complaining about online. Focus on the main course. It's disappointing seeing people vote RDR2 down only because of online. It doesn't affect them whatsoever.

    You know if a game goes as far as detail to make you brew coffee via campfire before drinking it, or getting your weapons from a horse's satchel, or literally watching it's testicles shrink in cold weather, that this is game of the decade material.

    It wasnt the first try that i enjoyed and not abandoned the game at the first chapter. Not even the second one or the third one. But eventually i start loving it and love it much for sure, no long descriptions - just 10/10

    Absolutely masterpiece, can write thousand of paper pages how this game or even how this experience is something special, thanks Rockstar for opportunity to spend hundred hours in RDR2. #1 on my list. They should force people in middle schools or high schools to play story mode and have exams from it.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Played on PS4 2 years after release, have not finished main story but has played significant amount of time in multiplayer.

    Positive:
    • Graphics - the first time I turned this game on I was greatly impressed by the graphics and couldn't help but take lots of pictures with its photo mode. The lighting was superb and added to the ambiance of the game at whatever time and place. The colour scheme was well used to simulate temperature from either a snowy mountain or dusty plains.
    • NPCs - NPCs are not perfect but they are well programmed to the point where they act as how their person would act in a situation you give them such as greeting, antagonize, bumping into them, pulling out a weapon, etc.
    • Content - Rich content, lots of things to do and the world is filled with unique events.
    • Chance to earn gold bars in-game which can also be purchased with real money

    Negative:
    • Multiplayer connection not the most stable but handled well playing between China and Australia
    • Would be nice to have a passive system like GTAV to stop players from bullying someone who just wants to chill out.
    • Rarely updates for special seasons/occasions, boring for multiplayer

    Final Verdict:
    Definitely earned its awards and praises - I didn't play the game on release so I may be biased, but this game is definitely worth buying. Only play Online if you have friends to play with or can get along well with other players enough to start a posse.

The controls are too complicated and too many functions are chaotic.     If you want an amazing story driven open world game and you like western movies you don't have to look any further. Amazing graphics,one of the best storys ever told in a game,fantastic character writing. (Suggestion: Ignore the online component it's a crappy boring grinding simulator full of microtransactions)

    Overall a solid title. The game is very detailed, with a good story and some interesting characters, as is expected from Rockstar. The game felt very slow to me though. There is little re-playability because of how slow some of the sections were.

    They did a good job with the story, and world, but this is not a game, it is an interactive movie, follow X, go to Y, click Z for 10 minutes

    Controls are the worse Ive ever experienced, slow, and unresponsive, my controller lost years of life me clicking so hard... Missions were too easy and you had to go though 30 minutes of nonsense stuff before starting o really play each mission.

    My favorite open world game after The Witcher 3, the only flaw is the side missions without a storyline at the level of The Witcher, but otherwise it is, perhaps, the best-curated game I have ever played.
    In my opinion it deserved Game of the Year in 2018, with all due respect to God Of War

    There were interesting moments, but it did not impress me.
    Pros for the graphics, sound. The plot is boring at times.
    I remember buying on the day of the premiere and I was terribly excited, but the game did not give me any unforgettable experience. Maybe my expectations were too high?

Everytime I see these background It puts me in the mindset of a Bob Ross painting.This game also does something many games can’t do… it actually has good main and side missions… something many game studios neglect, for example Ubisoft … this studio is the godfather of pointless side missions… they give you 3 side missions but they spread them across the map so they can appear different.the combat is also satisfying mainly because of the aim assist tho.this games chapters and Amazing until we reach chapter five which has to be the most annoying boring bull crap chapter out of all of them because it really does nothing interesting it kinda makes the game go from realistic amazing and fun to being a survival island escape flash game and then goes right back to normal in the blink of an eye and then some more nonsense crap happens, but I will admit there is a horse riding scene is this game that blows me away because of how cinematic it is.When we reach chapter 6 ( the final chapter ) I get worried because the first 4 or so missions aren’t that good… but then the game does a complete 180 and returns back to what made the first 4 chapters so good and gave me one of the most emotional endings in videogame history. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a strong 8/10 to a 9/10 this is a must have title for gamers.(EDIT) I have finished my second playthrough and my opinions have changed about chapter six I now believe this game is a 9/10… Expand

    Great, fantastic. Love the amount of detail. Could spend weeks in the wild. I imagine this is particularly enjoyable for people stuck in the cities with no access to rural areas not even once in a while. Me, I had the chance to ride horses once or twice having grown close to my grandparents' village so I know how cool it is in the nature.

    It’s an huge, outstanding piece of art – worth the hard-earned cash as well as countless hours that are needed to get to know at least some of the attractions of Rockstar’s rendition of Wild West. For those who put story first – the biggest virtue of Red Dead Redemption 2 is that it sets the stage for RDR 1 and does it wonderfully. [13/2018, p.40]
