I also like the art style, not every game needs to be hyper realistic when it comes to graphics.

In the end if you like MOBAS and first person shooters, this hybrid is for you.

This feels like the Team Fortress 2 of a new generation. Maps for the most part all play well and uniquely, all characters serve a purpose. Easy game to play but hard to master. I enjoy the wide variety of ways you can play the game, but some explosive abilities can be a little OP. Look forward to a competitive mode and what ever other additions they bring.

All game-modes are objective-based, meaning that you must work as a team to defeat your opposition. Granted there is no campaign, but in a game like this it is not necessary whatsoever, there are animated shorts found online that give various characters there own backstory which add a nice touch to this sort of game. The gameplay is nice and smooth, with a stable frame-rate and feels extremely satisfying, Right now the summary of the game is out the way, I would like to turn to those who complain about this game and find loopholes in their complaints. First of all, yes it's online only, but this type of gameplay has already provided me and my friends with hundreds of hours of entertainment, not every game needs a campaign. Secondly, to the people who say this game should be free, future content for this game is free, granted not loot boxes as they're merely cosmetic choices, but anything to enhance gameplay is completely free of charge, Blizzard have stated this themselves, you're basically paying for all this dlc ahead of time, all of these purchases have been funded towards the future content, and so far, from Ana and Eichenwalde, they have delivered, with plenty more to come. Thirdly, to the people saying this game has only gained popularity through Blizzard's prestige is just straight hating the company and game imo. Honestly? I only played one Blizzard game before Overwatch, and that was World of Warcraft, and I didn't even like that game, hell, when I first heard of Overwatch I honestly brushed it aside and was more interested in Battleborn, oh how the tides have turned, and I can vouch there are more people like me who came along with next to information and have enjoyed this game, especially my friends. Granted, this game is not perfect, but damn it's definitely one the best FPS games I've played in my lifetime. Expand

Overwatch is that special kind of game that suits many different sub genre of gamer and as many different skill levels to boot. From your FPS loving hardcore "Pr0" to your casual "i'll play a little after work" kinda guy.
Combining the fast paced action of an FPS with moba-like un-lockables including skins, sprays and voice lines, there's a LOT to enjoy about Overwatch and very few things to fault it on.

    So let's talk gameplay.
Overwatch as of writing this review has several game modes including Quick Match (6vs6, for your quick casual games), competitive (for your more stressful but more rewarding gaming needs), custom game, training and Arcade, which itself houses several OTHER game modes!. Since the game's original launch 2 new Hero's, multiple hero changes and the previously mentioned competitive mode and arcade mode were added, and there's plenty more to come as Overwatch continues to grow.

Most Matches are played against teams of 6 players each side, where each player chooses from a roster of 23 (current number) hero's to do battle against each other. Each hero has their own unique play style, abilities and role so it's very important to choose which hero you think is best for your team, and dealing with the enemy. The great thing about Overwatch is that you can switch out your hero mid game! meaning there's endless possibilities and no match is ever the same.

Let's talk a lil bit about competitive and the community though shall we?
I've played competitive since it launched and am currently Diamond on the PS4 (rankings are Bronze - Silver - Gold - Platinum - Diamond - Master - Grand Master - top 500) however I've played with players as low down as silver and as high up as top 500, and so I can say without a doubt that the higher you advance in rank, the more toxic the community becomes.

Outside of the game, the Overwatch community can be a bit over-hyped with fan content, cosplay and the like but are generally a friendly bunch, but when it comes to a player around platinum rank or above possibly loosing a bit of their ranked rating? you're gonna know about it!

All in all I couldn't recommend Overwatch anymore than I already do, but please be warned that it is a competitive FPS, you are going to get salty toxic players in any and all game modes regardless of rank, and will see much more of that if you decide to go competitive. If the idea of being angrily messaged should you make a slight mistake doesn't dishearten you however, then get out there and win! coz y'know, the world could always use more hero's! (...sorry)

This is just the single most annoying feature of the game. The fact that there is no capping too how many of one character you can pick and it simply makes the game unbearable at times, absolutely nothing has been nerfed in beta, this is primarily Torbjorn's turret, the amount of strength you need too take it down (plus the 360 degree angle it turns in) is just down right stupid and it really makes it hard too play. All I need is nerf of Torbjorn and character cap limit, and then this game would be one of the best I have ever played. Expand

Almost all of the heroes feel balanced, unique and full of personality which is they key point in a character based competitive game. There are many characters to fit whichever playstyle suits you best. It's vibrant, with great maps and the online runs well. Most of the time it puts you into matches of equally skilled opponents, which is the other main point to nail in a competitive game. One thing to note is that having a few friends in a team based game like this to play with on the regular vastly influences how much fun you'll have with this title. The other thing worth mentioning is that although this game will keep you busy for dozens of hours I wouldn't say it quite has the variety from match to match to keep me hooked like some previous blizzard greats, such as diablo 2, warcraft 3 or starcraft 2. I think that it has something to do with a lack of real progression and the loot boxes are sort of "Meh". Also having all of the cinematic content online and not incorporated into the game, feels a bit off. In the end this is an excellent competitive game and an interesting new IP for blizzard, that doesn't quite reach the full on legendary addiction of previous blizzard greats. Expand

Granted there isn't a boat load of content for it RIGHT NOW. Having said that many people don't look past their initial impressions and dive deep into really looking game they decide to pay $60 dollars for. I have read reviews of people who when into Overwatch having not played the beta, having not seen gameplay, having not done any sort of research whatsoever and rated it obscenely poorly because they felt gypped when it was clearly their own fault for a poor allocation of their funds. $60 dollars is a lot. Is this game worth that much? I can't say that everyone would feel that way at least now but that doesn't affect that I feel the gameplay, the visuals, the score and the fun isn't worth the time and money I have put into it. There is more to come and many consumers haven't bothered to check that there isn't going to be 'only' 21 characters. They will be releasing more as the game's life cycle grows completely free. I can't imagine that the map count would be any different especially since that seems to be the way map content in games is shifting. I didn't see anyone complaining about 343 giving out all of their maps in Halo 5 for free. Another gripe I have been seeing is the lack of anything unlockable. I get that. But if that is all that drives you play Call of Duty, play Battlefield. Don't come into a game with preconceived notions that have no basis because you decided not to check it out before you blew your money and called it a crap game. It just makes you look stupid. All in all, this game is great. $60 dollars is a lot for a game period. For this game maybe a little more than that but wait it out. Do your research. Feel it out. Play it at a friends house first and if you don't like it, don't get it. If you do then sweet! You have a ton of people to play with that I know will be enjoying it just as much as you. This game is great. Lacking in a ton of content at the moment but when has Blizzard not been known to put out more? It'll come soon™. Definitely worthy of a high score. Expand

Others are complaining about the lack of gaming modes... yet when I go on Call of Duty, about 99% of gamers are playing Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint. Adding more modes to Overwatch wouldn't necessarily make it a better game.

There 21 characters to choose from, which is 12 more than the number of specialists available in Black Ops III (if you don't count Blackjack who has to be earned from contracts). All 21 characters play very differently - no one can seriously suggest that you can pick any two characters and "they're exactly the same". Sure - try McCree for one game, then change to Reinhardt - and tell me they feel the same.

Blizzard has promised free DLC in the future, DLC meaning maps and characters. So I wonder why people are calling this a F2P or Pay 2 Win game? You can buy credits for the game, but all they can be used for is to unlock skins and themes (much like Black Ops III). It is most definitely not a F2P or Pay 2 Win game - you pay for the game, and you get the whole game.

And yet others are complaining that the game is expensive... the same complainers are probably happy to sink far more money into the countless FIFA games which, to be honest, are just rehashed versions of the previous year's game. When you play a FIFA/PES game, do you complain that "there aren't enough maps or game modes"? Why do I have to kick a football about in every game? Some people really ought to re-read what they've written about Overwatch before complaining.

Then there's the complaint that there's "not enough depth" in the story. Sure, COD has lots of depth lol. And what about FIFA? A bunch of men kicking a football around - lots of story there. And Bloodborne... great game, but the story is practically non-existent.

Last but not least, some people are complaining that the game looks cartoony or childish. Yet I've not heard that said about games like Ratchet & Clank (which looks cartoony and childish), and countless other games. I get the feeling haters just want to hate.

Overwatch has a lot of great humour, and there's a lot of attention to detail in the game. The game relies on solid teamwork much more so than other FPS's, and that's where this game can shine above others. If you have not already tried the game, find a friend who can shareplay with you for an hour or two - quite likely you'll be hooked. Hours will pass when you swear it's just mere few minutes. That's the definition of a great game - something that you keep pouring hours into, yet it doesn't feel like you've played for more than half an hour.

Personally I'm glad that Blizzard decided not to make the game F2P (with microtransactions), as that would've just made it Pay 2 Win. The usual people who complain about the cost of the game are probably the same people who happily sink dollars/pounds into McDonalds "meals" every day. I paid US$40, which is peanuts considering the girlfriend and I have already sunk 20 hours into the game between us, and her son has added another 20 hours on top. $1 an hour (up to now) is extremely cheap entertainment... and we're still playing.

The game features 12 maps currently, and has 3 different 6v6 objective based game mode, (escort, assault, and control) each of which allows for use of all of the different heroes this game has to offer. The maps are very well designed, each having various different locations and choke points that help tailor to each characters role and set of skills. There are high vantage points for snipers to rain damage from, as well as low hiding spots and vast lanes for players to take advantage of.

This game is very team based. It greatly rewards players who use teamwork and are able to correlate each hero's skill set with one another. So to speak, this game has a much more rewarding experience when playing with a group of friends or a set team. From what I've played, solo queueing isn't bad, it's just hard to be abe to communicate and correlate with a bunch of random players. For a better experience with this game, I very much recommend finding a group of players to play with, as opposed to playing by yourself.

This game also offers cosmetics you can attain for you heroes by opening lootcrates. Lootcrates are gained simply by leveling up or can be bought at a price. These cosmetics are essentially what they are, cosmetics, and will not alter the gameplay at all.

If you've played the beta, this game is unchanged currently. Same maps, same heroes, and same game modes. I anticipate that Blizzard will continue to update this game with new content and gameplay balances, so if you liked it then, you'll like it now!

Since this is a Blizzard game, I have no doubt this game will continue to have a growing fan base on twitch and youtube. It is almost impossible to avoid seeing let's plays of this game on youtube and so many people are already streaming the game. 3) Blizzard has told us that all new characters and maps will be free in the future. This is where the price of admission comes in and where Overwatch will have the opportunity to prove its worth. This is so rare in games today that are asking half the price of the game, or more, for an additional season pass. Cough... cough.... Battlefront. Given Battlefront has released some free DLC, there is still a $50 season pass to enjoy the majority of the game's additional content. Now, whether or not Blizzard will deliver on this front in a good way, is yet to be seen, but I have good faith that they will deliver on this front. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. before i start my overall review of this game one thing must be addressed first, free dlc for life. most of the negative comments for this game attack it solely because its not free to play. this game would not survive if it had that kind of system. locking characters behind a 5 or 10 dollar pay wall could not work because of how the game works. lets say that one character on the opposite team is destroying everyone on your team, the hero you are currently playing is weak to that certain character, so you decide to switch over to one that could easily defeat that character. because of the free to play system, you dont own a certain hero to counter that hero, so you basiclly lose the match because of it. imagine the 60$ as a but in fee, everyone has the same hero and same abilities, their is no advantage of some players spending the most to own all the heroes while most players only own 2 or 3. sure people can complain about spending money on loot boxes, but their purely cosmetic, and no advantage. the negative comments will also say that if you want a better multiplayer experience play call of duty or battlefield. over watch separates itself from those style of games. overwatch plays dramatically different from those games because not everyone has assault rifles or exo suits. each character in the game plays different from one another, and each has their own moves that they bring to help their team to hold the objective or to help move the payload. the game overall is graphically impressive and no lags or bugs what so ever, sound is very on point like every other blizzard title. blizzards main priority in all of their games is game play first, which is where the game raises the bar for other titles. if you are sick and tired of the generic team deathmatch call of duty where you sink 60$ every year plus 50$ dlc, overwatch is a cartoon style larger than life hero game with pulse rifles, scrap shotguns, heavy hammers, freeze guns, bow and arrows, Tesla guns, and so much more. are you with us? Anything that can be bought over micro transactions can be obtained in game. So the good about Overwatch, it's a nice escape from the usual FPS games you normally play (call of duty, battlefield etc). Overwatch is a nice change and is a truly enjoyable experience also if you bored of the same kind of gameplay just switch to a different character because each character plays differently and is just as fun as the next (use Roadhog... best ever). Overall Overwatch is a good fun time and is a must for all those that enjoy FPS and is wanting to try something new and different. Expand

Is this game worth $60. Absolutely!!!!!!

DON'T LISTEN TO ANYONE WHO GIVES THIS GAME A 7 OR LOWER.

In additon it has the most interesting and enjoyable fps gameplay of this console generation, standing as an equal to black ops 3.

I am giving this game a 9 because although it has the graphics, gameplay, voice acting, sound track, and depth (in strategies and maps) for a 10/10
BUT I fear that it lacks the longevity, It seems to be the same that was released in the BETA, I wish this game had a campaign or a story mode.

All in all, This IS a very good game, but those who wish to find a game that centers more in story should look at battle born, This game is polished and fun, but not as deep as I would like it.

I like the fact that YOU can level up but the actual characters DON'T so you aren't facing players with BIGGEr BADDER guns and abilities. I'ts more based on skill.
The other thing I like is you don't feel robbed when you die, and the only REAL penalty to dying is having to find your way back to the OBJECTIVE, you don't lose much else.

Okay, so I have never reviewed a game on metacritic, but I have some bones to pick with a few of the negative reviews. While some qualms are understandable, such as a need for competitive mode or the fact that leveling only earns you skins, most of them are wrongly applied to this game, giving it an unfair score. As a Splatoon fan and a newcomer to online arenas, here are my thoughts.Okay, so I have never reviewed a game on metacritic, but I have some bones to pick with a few of the negative reviews. While some qualms are understandable, such as a need for competitive mode or the fact that leveling only earns you skins, most of them are wrongly applied to this game, giving it an unfair score. As a Splatoon fan and a newcomer to online arenas, here are my thoughts.

    1. The game is incomplete but full-priced. So was Spatoon upon release, which was also full-priced, but the dlc is all free. In months, it will have so much more. I think that it's reasonable to release Overwatch with just a few free-form multiplayer modes. Get the feel for the game now, why go into competitive when you just started playing anyway? Not everyone played beta. It's only been out for a month or so, it's to be expected that a game is lacking in content when we live in an age where patches and updates are a click away. And free.

    2. There is no campaign.... But not every game needs a campaign. While Splatoon's campaign served essentially as training, being boring and easy, I don't think that Overwatch needs one, nor would a campaign even seem useful in any way. There are training and pve modes that supersede what the campaign would be for, so what's the deal? This game is meant for online play, just like Splatoon. It could use more modes, but remember, it JUST came out. Games these days are never released complete. They improve over time and the developers do it on purpose to not only acquaint people with the vanilla first, but to keep things fresh while they add to it. If, let's say, Lucio wasn't vanilla and was a dlc character, you'd better believe that I would be more excited about him. That's the point of what they're doing. Some may argue that it's a cop-out, withholding what should've been in the main game to begin with, but if it's free, that's literally just whining.

    3. Somebody thinks the game is imbalanced? This one I don't understand. You can change characters essentially at will, specifically to counter other characters. Anybody who says that this game is imbalanced is just a rage quitter and hasn't learned which characters counter which. I'm a girl who plays Nintendo games normally like Animal Crossing, so if I can be good at Overwatch, anyone can be. In fact, I think that the balancing is one of this game's greatest highlights.

So, if you haven't guessed, Splatoon is my favorite game. If Splatoon is a 10/10, Overwatch would be an 8/10. My only qualms would be the way the overtime system works (make it like Splatoon, duh) and that mean-spirited, insanely harsh and unreasonable 75% exp penalty they give you if you so much as see what medals you've earned. They don't give you enough time to leave the match without claiming you 'disconnected', and the idle time is also extremely harsh. Once these things are fixed, this game will be a 10/10. I give Overwatch a 9/10 because it's one of the few games on the market that I find fun (at all, that deserves credit), it's very imaginative and fresh, and although it's no Splatoon or Ocarina of Time, I think that its deserving of its hype, not just a fanboy circle-jerk. Take that from a person who doesn't like WOW.

While many are complaining about balancing issues on the console versions, Blizzard has been pretty quick to addressing problems and is introducing fixes very soon. Overwatch is a fun experience and one of the most balanced I've ever played. Combine that with free content updates with no need for a season pass and Overwatch is a $60 you won't regret spending.

The important thing to note: This is a PvP game. There is no campaign or anything of that sort.

The important thing to note: This is a PvP game. There is no campaign or anything of that sort. If you're not into online competitive games, you likely won't get as much out of this game as others. That said:

I was introduced to Overwatch by a friend who described it as TF2, but better, and while I was skeptical they were completely right. With four classes and 23 heroes (and more to come), each with their own unique aesthetic, abilities, and gameplay that all stand out, there is quite a bit of depth in that regard. Whether you want to be a massive hammer swinging german tank that protects their teammates, a roller blading aura caster that can ride on walls, a sharpshooting cowboy, or an adorable climate scientist that freezes your opponents, this game has a plethora of roles to fill. All of the maps are beautiful, memorable, and generally well designed. The catch being there are only 4 (technically 5) regular game modes (Capture Point, King of the Hill, Payload, 1v1/3v3 Elimination, and Capture Point / Payload hybrids), with each map having a specific game mode. Although, there have also been limited time holiday modes and brawls (such as Lucioball and Dr. Junkensteins Revenge) with more to come in the future. The upside to this is that Blizzard is extremely attentive to the community, regularly updates / tunes heroes to be more balanced or in line with their vision, and has stated they are actively seeking out new modes to implement. Since launch they have already added two new heroes, two maps (one with a new game mode), three holiday events, and another map just around the corner (all for free).

One of the aspects I love most about this game is that teamwork is paramount, easily trumping individual skill. I had long been tired of games like Halo and Call of Duty where it is largely a chaotic fest of people running and gunning without a care to what their teammates are up to. With the hero designs, ultimate abilities, and structure of maps, it is far more important to focus on coordinating pushes and defenses with your teammates than having Godlike aim. If you try to run around as a lone wolf, you will get shut down by those who have learned to stick together and synergize.

Overall it is an amazing game if you like team oriented and competitive multiplayer, even if you haven't traditionally been a fan of shooters (with the diverse character designs, you may not find even yourself using a gun all that much). If online multiplayer isn't your thing however, you may find the $60 or $40 price tag hard to justify.

This year for Christmas, all I wanted was a new Ps4. I was very confident that I would be getting one, so I looked into some possible games that I would like. It didn’t take me very long to find Blizzard's new console creation, called Overwatch. It was recommended on many websites that I looked on, (Amazon, Gamestop, and blockbuster) I was very interested in the game from the start. I watched many trailers and game play videos, to make sure this was the game I wanted. I loved it, I couldn't wait to start playing it. I showed my parents, and they thought it also was a cool game except for how pricey it could get. You are required to buy Ps plus / or Xbox Live which gets pretty pricey, and the game itself which costs forty dollars.

Christmas morning I found out that I was correct, I got the Ps4 and Overwatch. I hurried down and set it all up and shortly was able to play. The game immediately introduces itself with the characters explaining why you were chosen to become apart of their elite force of heroes. You are then sent to a screen that has many game modes including season three, quick play, arcade, custom, and player versus AI.
Quick play is my only a shorter game that you play against people who are your level. In arcade mode there are many different types of game modes including three Versus three, the event mode, no limits, brawl list, and Mystery hero. The most recent event mode was, capture the flag. No limits is where there is no limitations on the hero's your team chooses. Brawlist is a playlist of different events. like everyone has to be one hero, or everyone has to be a Certain type of hero.

When you choose one of these game modes you enter a skirmish while you wait for your main match to load. In this skirmish you can try out new characters and the map. I really love this feature because instead of having to watch the loading sign as you wait for a match you can play with other people that are also waiting for a match. Once your match has been found they pull you out of the skirmish and bring you into your match. Your then put in a kiosk where you choose your hero. After everyone selects their hero you enter the map. The teams wait in different ends of the map, until everyone is let go at once and you fight. At anytime when you die, you can change your hero to change the course of the match. After the match ends you watch the play of the game, and you get exp. you use the exp from the match to level up.

In the end my point is that this a very good choice if you are choosing a new game to play. The animation is much better than any other game I have played. I truly believe that this game has great potential for the future, I don’t see this game getting old. It always has new ways to bring back there players. New events come out often, keeping the game up to date. Overwatch has also received many awards such as game of the year, Best Studio/Game Direction, best multiplayer of 2016, and many more. I rate this game 4.5 stars.

I have since gotten myself addicted. While I do enjoy a good campaign, the majority of my time and enjoyment with a FPS comes from online multiplayer. To trash this game based on the lack of depth is immature and misguided. This game is being rated poorly by people who are just not a right fit for it. I don't enjoy fighting games one bit, but that doesn't mean I'm going to go give Mortal Kombat or Naruto Shippuden a 2 or 3-point rating.

This game needs to be viewed objectively. The replayability is top-notch. The variance in team chemistry is top-notch. The fact that Blizzard continues to add characters and maps, free of charge, is rare in modern gaming. Blizzard actually listens to its fanbase. The only place I might draw issue with this game (other than a few minor grievances I have in-game) is with the price. This is often compared to TF2 (rightly so). And that is likely why so many people feel Overwatch is really only one piece of a game. But I think if campaign only games can thrive on their own, so can multiplayer-only. Especially considering the latter has much more replayability.

And as a side-note, I think any review should be completely disregarded if they claim this should be a free-to-play game. Entitlement in the consumer community is just as detrimental to video game progression as things like microtransactions and games being released only half-finished..

The competitive is the heart of this game, while other game modes such as the arcade are not very well made, but that doesn't really matter since one will typically be playing either competitive or quick play. The other major issue for this game is character balancing. Blizzard has done a poor job at keeping characters balanced and not over powered, characters such as Bastion and Mei can usually be game ruiners if they are not on your team since they take little difficulty to play and are too strong when compared to more fair characters. Overall though, this is hands down the next big shooter on consoles and PCs because of its different ideas and characters. Expand

This game really has eaten up a lot of my free time plus always good for a quick round when I got an extra 15 minutes to burn. For me the part I like is trying to improve in competitive. the only reason for me that I didn't give a 10/10 score is because the community is fairly toxic to the point I don't even bother with team chat anymore, I think Blizzard should be doing a better job of finding these people.

Overwatch is the most fun I’ve had with a shooter since Splatoon came out. It’s true when they say no two matches are alike, because you never know what characters you’ll be up against, what the objective will be, or how your team will play.

True, When I first tried this game, I was truly sceptical of it (specially about spending 60 bucks) and I was against playing a game with no campaign mode as well, but it won me over. Yes, it took all its inspiration from Team Fortress, Blizzard says it all the time, but they created so many different characters and refined so many mechanics just trying to provide the best fun and gameplay possible. They have been constantly updating for free new characters, maps and modes.
Playing online with other people, was something hard for me until I played this game; we all know how competitive things can get on this platform, but you can pick up certain characters with certain skills and still do a good job adjusting to your abilities and play style. Give it a shot, there´s a character for everyone.
In case you are fully new to Overwatch, it focuses on Team vs Team, only (except for special events where is 1vs6, or PVE), with few but very fun modes (defending points as king of the hill and escorting a payload, or even hybrid) in a variety of maps, which I must say, were really thought trough and are well designed so any character can shine and none are in full disadvantage or advantage). Blizzard truly did an amazing job risking it and betting on this IP. Give it a try on those free weekends, or when it´s $30. It is fun no doubt in short bursts or if you want to invest yourself in the competitive scene.
It´s FUN, and hasn´t lost momentum. I find this type of shooter, like Team Fortress, more fun than having the typical resolution of match based on deathmatches and head count.

Every character is unique in personality and design and very easy to differentiate them in game. The game is gorgeous and has a really cool unique style. The in game lore is very interesting and is shown through voice lines, character interactions, cosmetics, and Easter eggs in the maps. This is aided by great customization options such as skins and sprays that add more flare to the game. The maps are all very simple but effective in design. They're big and offer many different ways to approach your enemy's. You can really see the effort that went in to make sure each character is viable on every map. The objectives also offer intense and engaging moments to the match and every game something new seems to happen. Most of the heroes are super fun to play and are very unique and diverse. They're fun and mostly balanced with a few exceptions. Also some heroes just aren't as fun to play as others. Some of the main problems i have with this game is that the progression is very slow and the loot box system feels kinda cheap with how long it takes to obtain them. The game released pretty bare bones but after the first couple months the game modes, new heroes, maps, and other content helped improve the game. Overall a really great game and one of the best shooters in a long time with a few problems but overall very good. Expand

The game looks great with its unique style and all the characters and locations have unique looks and stand out. The voice acting is mostly great and the game has great sound design. The in game lore and interesting characters are amazing even though the game is very lacking in any single player or co-op content. However the game-play of the main multiplayer is the real standout. The game feels great and the controls are very responsive. The heroes are unique and have there own role to play on the battlefield and none feel quite alike. The maps are plentiful and diverse, objectives offer intense game-play and will have you very invested in your game. Their are a few heroes who feel way to powerful and their are many strategies that will frustrate you but that is to be expected with a multi-player game. My main concern is how slow the progression is. Climbing the competitive ladder feels to slow with very little meaningful rewards. Loot boxes offer some unique mechanics but also a whole pool of poorly designed ones, but also offer something too look forward too when leveling up. Overall a truly great multiplayer experience and one of the best in years for that matter, and a great business model offering unique content every few months despite it lacking in offering single player content. My biggest complaint is that getting into a match takes longer than the actual matches. Not even the unbearable and revolting fanbase can prevent me from enjoying this addictively fun game. Expand

What makes overwatch unique is that it consists of 21 unique characters who all have different weapons and special abilities. Overwatch basically takes every cool element in video games (teleportation, grappling hooks, wall running, etc) and puts them in a pot and shares them equally with every unique character; and characters are surprisingly very balanced, you'll wish they just had one different power so they'll be perfect. It's mostly a spamfest of special abilities, and I enjoy it. The only and I say this with an exclamation point..downfall of overwatch is the lack of game modes, a lack of playlist, and even a lack of a deathmatch. There are literally two-three game modes in this game (listed above), and I'm shocked there are no deathmatch.. sometimes I just want to kick back and kill stuff and you know? Shame, this game is an high 8 to me, but could easily be a 9+ if given more game modes and an actual playlist. Buy this game if you like multiplayers that depends on working together as a team, an arcadey shooter that focuses on your special abilities, and if you like the challenge of grinding to master a character to dominate your peers. Avoid this game if you can't stand "futuristic" fps shooters, and are looking for boots on the ground fps (like cod and battlefield). Also a big chance you'll hate this game if you plan on lone wolfing it/not working as a team. If all you do in these games is run and gun, you will die A LOT. Expand

Overwatch is essential the updated version of Team Fortress 2, but in my mind is more polished and varied. Its also a great experience that is simply fun. Unfortunately it is online competitive multiplayer only and unless you get the PC version ($40 for the base game) you are stuck with the Origins edition for consoles with a $60 price tag - which is definitely $20 more than it should be!Overwatch is essential the updated version of Team Fortress 2, but in my mind is more polished and varied. With that aside, Overwatch is a great FPS competitive multiplayer game that is easy to pick up and play. Each character is very unique and fun to play.

GRAPHICS: Great detail and love in the maps and to the characters - its very upbeat and lighthearted and works very well with a smooth 60 FPS.

SOUND: Great sound design with good banter and indicators as well as source to reception variability.

SOUNDTRACK: Not amazing but fits with the game for sure.

VOICE: Well voice acted with small tidbits of sayings and emotes - not a big part of the game but is well done none the less and adds to the enjoyment.

GAME PLAY: Incredibly varied and fun but released with only 4 modes and 12 maps.

REPLAYABILITY: Very replayable and is is built for replay and hopefully free updates will expand the content, but this is Activision that is publishing it and microtransactions are already present - so one will most likely have to pay for every piece of additional content.

For me the game is worth $40 and I will get $40 worth of enjoyment out of it. If you are on the fence, see if you can try it on console or rent it for a console to see if it fits for you. If you like Team Fortress at all, then I think you will really enjoy this title.

Overwatch is simply brilliant. It is fun. And that's something many of the big MP franchises are missing of late. Fun. If you're not working as a team and choosing the right class you are not going to win.

Classes are well balanced. Each character has strengths and weaknesses and there's a counter for everything. Its all down to your own skill and knowledge.

Servers are smooth, I've not once experienced any sort of lag or glitches.

Graphics are bright, crisp and detailed. The characters and environments are fun, cartoony and over exaggerated. It kind of reminds me of the awesome TF2. There is no play to win nonsense and according to Blizzard all maps etc in future DLC are free.

Well worth your money if you want a little different, crazy, addictive new MP.

Is not perfect, but is very fun, and is going to receive new content in the future and free, i really recomend it, is offensive that much people only create account on metacritic only to give low verdict's to the games, for people like this, the people will not take the user's scores seriusly in the future.

A very solid shooter. An abundance of characters to choose from with more to come from Blizzard, vibrant visuals, very well-designed maps, and deep mechanics. There is a slight lack of content at launch, but there are plenty of free updates coming, and the variety of characters there are to learn will keep everyone busy for awhile.

Overwatch is a fun and unique experience. With heroes with different abilities, its hard to master all classes. At release, Overwatch was a small game. With only 3 game modes and a handful of maps to keep it going. No campaign. But over the years, Overwatch has grown with new heroes, new maps, new ideas. A fun, competetive multiplayer experience.

A Great feeling game with not much to do
Overwatch is an online only multiplayer shooter.. there is no story here other than a quick introduction when the game starts up, and there is no single player campaign.. Its basically play the tutorial and then jump into the action… There are 21 unique feeling characters all separated into 4 different classes, offense, defense, tank

Overwatch is an online only multiplayer shooter..
there is no story here other than a quick introduction when the game starts up, and there is no single player campaign..
Its basically play the tutorial and then jump into the action…
There are 21 unique feeling characters all separated into 4 different classes, offense, defense, tank and support.. so you can contribute to your team in any way you please whether that’s getting kills, being a shield, or healing
Some classes do have more character variety than the other.. but every last character has its own weapon and special abilities with cool downs, so youre guaranteed to find one to match your playstyle, and hopefully youll find at least 1 in each class for whatever each situation calls for, as you can switch characters during the match much like a gun loadout in other competitive multiplayer shooters
so if youre not feeling one, go down the list until you find your right fit..
All of this is great,, every character feels useful in their own way..
The only problem is theres not much here
There are 12 maps here which is a decent amount of variety, but none stood out to me…
I can easily name maps in other shooters that are fun to just run around and kill people in..
But I couldn’t here.. they all really feel the same…
And evry mission is just objective based…
    You have capture.. escort…and control…
Basically youre either fighting or defending a section of the map at all times…
I understand that these are really the only kind of missions that make sense in a game thats about character variety…
But I’d like to see some innovation beyond just the characters…
Maybe coming up with modes for each individual classes, such as a team death match for offense and tanks only
a tower defense for the defense and support team…
    get creative
Not just the same modes in every other shooter set inside pretty average maps…
After you’ve put your hours into the game youll level up which unlocks a loot box…
And inside of these loot boxes are garbage taunts, costumes, and sprays…
You grind to looks different while you do the same thing for hours on end.
Which honestly I wouldn’t mind all too much if there was more gameplay variety
I can only capture and defend for so long
Negatives aside, Overwatch is a decently fun multiplayer shooter that I feel fans of this genre will enjoy
    I give overwatch an 8.0/10

Overwatch was the massive multiplayer game from Blizzard that took the gaming community by storm. My only issue for this game is the unacceptable lootbox system, most likely courtesy of Activi$ion, the unfortunate parent company of Blizzard. Overall, though, Overwatch is a great multiplayer experience and one of the best games of 2016. Hopefully the Overwatch team fixes the issues that Titan had, and ships it this time. Or at least release a compiled playable version. Expand

Overwatch is an objective based six on six hero shooter from our pals over at Blizzard. You need to be connected to the internet to play, and the only single player content is in the form of bot matches. Again, if you need a campaign, this is not the game for you. With that out of the way, the multiplayer is sooo good. I'm forty hours in, and I'm still having a blast. There are 22 characters that fit into 4 classes who all feel unique, and only like, 13 maps, but let's not dwell on that. All the game modes are objective based (no team deathmatch or anything similar) so you have to stick with your team instead of wandering off alone. Team composition matters too, though playing six of the same character is admittedly fun.

The game is a bit light on content right now, that's true, but Blizzard has stated that all future heroes, maps, and game modes will be free, so that problem will fix itself later on. Even so, the game might not be worth it to you at full price. If it looks interesting, but you're not super into it, wait on a price drop.

In conclusion, pretty darn good, just not too much to keep the average person busy for hundreds of hours.

The story of Overwatch doesn't make any sense within the context of the game. Plus the game isn't the most densely packed game when it comes to content. But, it's loads of fun and it kept my attention for hours upon hours.

Blizzard's addictive and tactical team-based shooter is essential - the character-switching mechanic sweetens the genre. Group up with friends to avoid clueless carnage and enjoy the true game. [Aug 2016, p.82]
