For a game that has no campaign and has few multi-player maps and game-modes, its definitely not worth $60. You can get better games with the same content for just a quarter of the price; even FREE for some games.

And for a game that makes each of its characters and maps so diverse and interesting, its a shame that the game itself has no story and has meaningless multi-player. All you do is run around mindlessly while spamming your abilities, and that's clearly not what anyone expects from a $60 game.

And as anyone could have predicted from a Blizzard game, the characters are clearly unbalanced. Since World of Warcraft, Blizzard has done a really bad job at making classes/characters balanced so that any and every play-style is viable. I don't expect this to be fixed any time soon, or even for the entire lifespan of Overwatch for that matter...

Blizzard has released cinematic shorts based in the Overwatch universe, and they are clearly better and more entertaining than any time spent in playing the game itself. I'd really recommend anyone reading this to check them out!

Besides that, I also don't like how Blizzard is selling-out FPS pros to play and advertise this game, and paying studios to host future Overwatch tournaments when the game has just been released. They're trying so hard to make this game the next "League of Legends" before the game even comes out, even though the success of every big game (or eSport) was because of the loyal fans and players.

And I don't see any real reason to be even the slightest bit interested in this game.

In conclusion, "Overwatch" is an over-priced and shallow FPS that had potential, but was ruined by Blizzard spending the majority of its budget on advertising the game than into giving the game and its characters some sort of meaning.

Based on my time in Closed and Open Beta along with a limited bit of time after launch, I initially gave the game a pretty favorable "9" rating. After a full week and slightly more than one full day of actual game time, my opinion has trended decidedly downward so I feel I must revise accordingly.

All one needs to know about Overwatch can be gleaned by looking at the trophy/achievement list: Many of them rely on luck, some require only time, and few require actual skill.

There is a potentially good - no, great - game here but it is wrapped up in a myriad of poor design decisions such as poor character balance, poor map design, poor netcoding, and the allowance of hero stacking (which exacerbates all three of the other issues). There are tons of complaints about individual characters but the issue really is a combination of all four problems always happening at once. Sure, the complaints about Bastion's sentry mode with no slow down on aiming, no spread on shots, and no ramp up before firing are valid but they're almost always a problem because the maps are designed to heavily favor defending teams by either providing too few pathways for attackers, by allowing blatant base camping, or by putting an easy to defend choke point right outside of the defending team's base (while the attacking team usually has to run a fair distance from their last checkpoint when they die). Now add that the game allows multiples of the same character and one can see how the issues become multiplied.

There's also the fact that Blizzard themselves have confirmed that the game's servers only run at a 20 tick rate (less than a third of what's considered minimum standard) and also includes a baked in latency delay to "favor the shooter" (read: prevent the need for leading shots) *on top of* each player's normal latency. Cheap, unavoidable deaths (such as being killed as Mei while in Ice Block or as Tracer after Rewinding because the server simply didn't "see" it relative to your opponent's latency+built-in delay) are frustratingly frequent.

The matchmaking system is just... bad. I generally split my time between running in a small group of 3-4 people or running solo depending on time of day. Not that it matters, mind: Regardless of running solo or grouped, either you're going to steamroll the opposing team or you're going to get steamrolled. In 213 games played so far, I can say that two dozen (or less) of those were close matches where the teams were really fighting to win. Either we won by a large margin or we lost by a large margin. This might seem fun at first but it quickly becomes mindnumbing. I'm not sure what they use to determine MMR for matchmaking but it feels off and it certainly doesn't help that some maps are designed almost entirely to promote steamrolls by the defending team - maps like Temple of Anubis and Route 66, both of which my usual group now leave any time they pop up in the rotation. Not because we can't win on them (we can and have) but because they're simply NOT fun.

There are very few elements of skill in Overwatch, mostly to be found within the support cast of Mercy, Lucio, Symmetra, and Zenyatta. For everyone else, this is a game of luck: Lucky timing on the acquisition of ultimate abilities, lucky placement of the enemy team, lucky netcode timing, lucky map selection, and so on. I would love to say I have faith in Blizzard to deal with these imbalances but I simply do not considering many of them were known as far back as Closed Beta and still went in at launch (not to mention their 8.5 year long struggles balancing Warcraft's Arena PVP system with far fewer classes).

A serie with alot of hype, mainly because it is a Blizzard game with their "Blizzard polish". This game is fun, but won't have a long longevity for me after spending a decent amount of hours(around 100) playing this game. I will explain it as short as possible for the people who wants quick and short reviews to compare it with each other:

EDIT: It isn't as short as I thought it would be, so my appologize.

    Positive:
    - It's a fun and solid teambased shooter when you're new to this game:
It's a fun and fresh experience, when you're learning each maps and characters. Every character is unique, but also easy to learn/understand. The maps are also well designed enough for each character.

This is subjective and a negative for some gamers: People who wants complex characters won't get what they want. So this could be a negative. For example, Mei is a hero with a tier 4 difficutly, yet she doesn't feel that different in difficulty compared to a tier 1 character like Bastion.

    - You can switch characters during game and also able to play as the same heroes as your teammates::
So you and your team can accustom to how your opponents are playing incase you have chosen the wrong hero. Or you can experiment by changing your heroes till you find the synergy to win the game. Or go crazy and have fun with weird hero combinations(even though this may be disrespectfull for your opponent).

    - Teamplay is pretty important in the game:
For example, your health won't regenerate, hence you need a healer. However, you don't need a healer if you don't want to play that way, since there are healing items lying around the map with a respawn/cooldown timer. This will slow down your teamplay if everyone is scattered around to find the healing items and heal themself. Each hero has their role(attackers, defenders, supporters and healers).

    - Game isn't technically impressive. However, we're gamers and the visual presentation and performance is nice and that's what matters:
It looks like a Pixar movie(not hitting that lvl, but the style is similiar) and the gameplay is fluent. Especially on the console, since it's pretty hard for developers to hit the 60fps on consoles and Overwatch is one of those game hitting the 60fps with a dynamic resolution.

    Negatives:
    - Short longevity for some gamers:
This doesn't apply to everyone ofcourse. But the amount of content is pretty small for a priced game. This game is only PvP and while the game is fun to play, it's all you will get(with the exception of future contents(but the question is, will that be enough)). All the heroes and maps are unlocked. The only thing you will get are sprays, skins(some are interesting if I'm honest hehe), taunts, etc. As you may noticed, all the things I've mentioned doesn't add any value to the actual game, beside being aesthetic. All the character will play the same, meaning you won't be able to personalize your character like some other games do. Hence this longevity will be short after knowing how all your heroes plays and how to play in each maps. This is the main reason why I won't give this game a high score/perfect score like a 9 or 10.

    - The game isn't complete, since the competitive gamemode will come in the next update:
Meaning, you're buying a game which isn't complete. Similiar towards SFV, but that one is far worse. This may be a trend in the future where publishers releases an incomplete game for the full price(sadly, I also bought this game, meaning I can't say much about this). Also another reason why I won't give this game an 8.

Hence my final verdict being a 7. I hope you understand why I gave this a 7 and this is my personal opinion anyways for the people who disagrees :) 7 is a good game IMO, even though it isn't a 9 or a 10. Hope I helped some people with this review. And if you will buy this game or have bought this and still read this, because of curiosity:

I hope you're enjoying your game and maybe we will be teamed up or teamed against each other in Overwatch now I'm done writing this :P

Overwatch has a beautiful art-style, (some) unique characters and is something different from now-a-days FPS (I do not consider this game a MOBA). The game also runs smooth on every platform, without any sort of glitches and exploits so far.

However, the game is incredibly lacking in both depth and content-wise manner. I personally do not like the fact how we get a very vague 'prologue' to the universe of Overwatch through webisodes, rather than having some sort of story-telling in-game (i.e. cutscenes, fleshed out biographies, location descriptions and the overall 'goal' of the game.)

What I've gathered so far from watching the webisodes and reading forums online is that the story is about an organization called 'Overwatch' which was made by the goverment to battle against this so called 'Omnic War'; a war that occurred between humans and robots. After this battle it lead to having society live in peace among one another's kind; as everyone praised Overwatch.

As Overwatch began to recruit more people, there were rumors of corrupted members slithering their way through, this eventually made both humans and robots think bad about these past Heroes. The headquarters of Overwatch got blown up and their leader killed (which actually are two of the playable characters named 'Reaper' and 'Soldier 76') This made Overwatch fall apart and turn illegal; during the same time the second 'Omnic War' is about to occur.

Winston, one of the co-leaders is trying to gather and make contact with all of the Overwatch current members so they can put a stop before this second war that is about to happen or is already happening. However, the vague part is that I don't understand the goal of the game itself.

You're fighting Overwatch members and it has nothing to do with the robots itself; the Omnic War itself. You're either a terrorist or not, from what I've gathered (secure the payload/explosives gamemode and capturing points).

There are a lot of flaws with the game; I'll list a few:

    1. There is no story whatsoever in-game (I do not count 3 dialogue lines per Hero, forcing us to figure out that Hanzo and Genji are related or that Soldier 76 and Reaper were actual people in the past that ran Overwatch.. Etc; Those are what the webisodes are for and I prefer it would've been ingame.)

    2. Incredibly short rounds

    3. Only two different gamemodes

    4. Unable to pick said gamemodes and maps specifically

    5. A broken social aspect to the game, such as partying up; etc.

    6. A FALSE progression system (All you earn are lootboxes and portrait frames every 10 levels, nothing aside of that seems to be unlocked, thus it isn't rewarding enough. I personally do not get why this sort of progression got wiped after the Beta since it holds no advantage over anyone else.)

    7. Incredibly uncreative skins (Aside from legendary ones, the rest are literally recolours of their original outfit)

    8. Overpriced for what it has to offer (Overwatch is using a very basic FPS formula and since it was originally planned to be Free to Play, but Blizzard decided to make it full price after they saw how much it got liked, I think it's pretty much a dick move on their side)

Much like playing Battlefront, after perhaps 5 games (experienced in short rounds) you've probably experienced pretty much all the game has to offer. This isn't unusual in an FPS game, but for me personally Overwatch doesn't really draw on any new ideas and feels blank in a pretty saturated multiplayer FPS market. The number of characters is an excellent idea that rapidly becomes only important in 1v1 scenarios which occur only seldomly.

It does play well, and the gameplay is mostly solid, but ultimately feels like playing Team Fortress 2 after a new update of weapons, except in that case the update wouldn't have cost you money. Certainly a good purchase for any multiplayer-FPS fanatic, but not for the price it wants from you.

One particularly good point is that as a Blizzard game, it will come with a large Twitch following which will probably ensure that the game does not die out any time soon and will probably be playable for the foreseeable future.

Overwatch is ridiculously overpriced, sitting at $60 for console users. What about PC, you may ask? $40. That's right, Blizzard is actually forcing console users to pay extra for the game. I know most of their games are PC exclusives, but this is extremely unfair. Even at $40 I would say it's overpriced, mainly due to a lack of content. I mentioned this as a complaint to one of my friends who is a huge fan of the game. He said the $60 pricing was fine because all of the content would be added in later updates. Well, why? That doesn't make any sense. Either delay the game so you can add the content upon release, or lower the price and make it DLC. I'd rather have the content be paid DLC than be forced to buy it when I'm probably not gonna have use for it any ways. As mentioned earlier, there is definitely a lack of content in the game, especially with a $60 price tag. Most noticeably is a story mode, which I actually hope will be added in a future update because I definitely think that could bring the score up for me. I guess it's because they want you to learn the story from watching the animations, but who's got time to do that? Plus, I wouldn't bother, they're not that interesting. There's also a pretty large lack of gamemodes, which is a big issue for a multiplayer only game. But I've been a little too hard on Overwatch, let's give it a little credit. One thing in this game that goes without flaw is the heroes. The main selling point of the game is it's 21 playable characters. This was clearly a design focus, because they knocked it out of the park. Each hero feels and plays to match they're class perfectly, and I'm always tempted to try different characters. Each of these heroes have their own weapons and abilities, adding a lot of variety to these characters. It's also worth noting that they all have their own personalities. Personally, this is something that loads of multiplayer games are lacking now a days. I'd much rather see a quirky, British teleporter as the mascot of the game than a stone-faced, one-sided cyborg soldier. This and a large amount of maps elevate this game to my score for it. In total, Overwatch is a great game set back by some issues with pricing and a lack of content. However, the focus on all of the heroes, each individual playstyle, and a variety of maps serve this game right. It doesn't in any way deserve all of the perfect scores from critics, but it's not bad. 7/10. Expand

For me there are a few points that make it lose some score in my opinion. In terms of gameplay, the game feels great, you have 20+ heroes, each one feels very different, they all have 3-5 different skills, there’s a game style for everyone here. I also think they’ve managed to balance the heroes quite well, that doesn’t mean you can kill any hero with any hero; it means each hero is strong against some heroes and weak against some others, balance within a specific game is completely dependent on people making the right choice. As long as people think a bit when choosing, rather than going “Genji is my main no matter what”, it is easy to have a combination of heroes that is balanced, being “combination” the key word here. Said that the gameplay wildly varies between heroes, you have very fast pacing heroes that have to move a lot (e.g. Genji/Tracer), bulky slow kind of heroes (e.g Mei, Reindhardt), healers, etc. etc. Graphically speaking, the game is good, not awesome but I think it stands out by its art style rather that the raw quality of the graphics, music and sound are all right, nothing out of the ordinary but they work all right. Story wise, this being a multiplayer online game, you won’t find a lot of story elements in the game itself, but Blizzard has made an awesome job at giving you context via comics and short movies that you can access online for free. That is quite cool, although I still miss a campaign mode, seeing the universe they’ve created, the main story and the charisma of the characters I think it would be relatively easy to make an awesome campaign. Finally, for those trying to think about how playing this feels I think it’s fair to say that this is a mixture between a multiplayer FPS and a MOBA (e.g. league of legends), so if you played some of those, just expect something that falls in the middle, at least it feels like this to me.

Now, bad stuff, the first thing is the lack of proper modes. There are 3 main modes that you can either play on quick play or competitive. Two of them are very similar. These modes feel great, the games are kind of short 5-10 mins (in quick play) so, they’re great fun. Most of the people play to these. There are a few other additional modes, I’m calling these additional for two reasons, first, not as many people play them and second they don’t have maps specifically designed for them (which is awful) and you’ll notice that while playing. These additional modes are things like “deathmatch” 1v1, 3v3 and capture the flag. Capture the flag specifically angers me a bit, it is a very old mode in FPS games and for me it’s great, it’s my favourite usually in this kind of game. Here it feels “additional” because they reuse maps from the “main modes” for it; so basically Blizzard has put almost zero effort on the mode and you can feel that when playing. Now, on top of the lack of proper modes, there is the lack of maps for these modes. So the main modes have specific maps but not many, this is 3 and 4 maps for each of the “capture the zone” mode and 7 for the “escort the payload”. For escort the payload the number of maps is all right, but for example for one of the “capture the zone” modes only 3 maps is very very little.

Finally, and maybe the worst for me is the matchmaking system. First of all, I want to clarify that I’m not complying about this after playing a couple of hours. As of today, I’ve played more than 850 games with 112 hours of playtime so I think I’m in a fairly good position to review this. Anyway, people say the match making is designed to try and put together people of the same skill so we have fair games. Some people say the game does this looking at your victory percentage. In principle, this is fine with me, fair games area funnier and I can definitely feel the invisible hand of the system “forcing” me to stay in the victory percentage that correlates with my skill. That again, in principle is fine with me, sounds fair. The game pairs me with better players if I go above my % and I start losing and vice versa. The problem with this is the way the system is keeping my percentage at X value. I’d say that roughly 50 to 60% of my games are games in which my team is immensely superior to the other team and we win very easy or the other way around. The other 40-50% are fair enough games that I might win or not. Anyway, the fact that 50-60% of my games are quite unfair is frustrating, I don’t mind loosing, but I don’t like losing overwhelmingly because it’s just not funny. Same way crush winning the other team is not fun either and that’s why I’m getting to a point where the game is frustrating me a bit.

Summarising, there is quite a lot to enjoy in this game so If you like this kind of game go for it, but be ready for some frustration.

Your success in Overwatch is directly related to your teams lineup and how well you work together. Playing solo may result in some very bad games if your team isn't wanting to work together. Playing with groups of friends will be much more enjoyable. Currently Overwatch only has Quick Matches and personal ranks but they plan to add a full ranked mode for people who want to take it seriously.
The design behind Overwatch is done so perfectly, Everything from sound to characters it all just works so well together. Audio queues will let you know if someone is using a Ultimate or even the foots steps of a specific hero. Not much bad can be said when it comes to this aspect of Overwatch.
One of the only things you can complain about with Overwatch is Matchmaking and team builds. Nothing is more discouraging then getting destroyed by a full grouped team over and over or getting paired up against people much higher level players. This will hopefully be fixed with the addition of competitive mode. Also having team stack one hero can make a game unplayable...some of the builds you can make up are nothing but torture.
All in all if you enjoy multiplayer games like Team Fortress 2 and you are able to keep your cool give Overwatch a try.

The game has no progression advantage, so you could buy this when the price drops and be competitive due to each hero having set attacks and weapons. I'd give it a 6.8, because while I had fun in the beta, it's addicting and each hero has their own skills and identity, I knew that everything I seen in the beta would be in the finished product and a game that is nothing more than a "kill an hour of time before work" kinda game shouldn't be full priced, especially when it's bare in content and feels repetitive after an hour or 2. I was hooked after I saw the Winston intro and I was like "Ohh this game has story mode? Awesome, I want to know the characters!" But nope, no story mode whatsoever. Also, if you want to be in highlights, it is easy with 2 characters, Torbjorn and Bastion because they have turrets and turrets win matches.
I like this game but it should be at 40 bucks not 60 bucks. Also remember that you can purchase loot boxes with real money!

At first glance Overwatch is a beautiful, and fluid arena style FPS, and seems to be compared to games like Team Fortress 2, Unreal Tournament, and Quake Arena by many people which naturally tugged at my heart strings. Seeing as how much I loved the aforementioned games I thought I would give it a go. I didn't get to play the beta or anything so I went in somewhat blind. Overwatch completely took me by surprise at first. It was so much fun those first couple hours. Sure. It does have some minor balancing issues, but once you get a better understanding of the characters and what they can do, on top of being able to switch characters at any respawn the imbalance issue somewhat fixes itself. My problem is there just isn't enough here. Especially for 60 bucks. As much as I hate the price point debate (because it is really hard to find that line between under and over priced when it comes to games) I just can't justify the 60 dollars this game costs. Knowing Blizzard I am sure they will rectify this with added DLC later, but it will literally need to be another "half" added to the game to even come close to making it feel less repetitive. With all do respect to my brother and sister gamers, I just can't say Battlefront was lacking content and then play this game and say it is a solid 8 or 9. The funny thing is Battlefront had A TON more to it than Overwatch does! I would highly suggest playing Overwatch............when it gets to the bargain bin. Expand

Most players run around chasing kills or just camping as a handful of turret characters or shielders as well as the same couple of powerful attackers. It's hard to enjoy when 9 times out of 10 people wont communicate, play balanced teams or play objectives. Although it is really fun when you get in a good lobby and everything comes together. I cant recommend a 60$ price tag. Expand

The game is creative and interesting, but should not be worth more than 40 dollars. The characters are extremely well balanced, but unfortunately this is the only strong suit of the game. Matchmaking is not very good, map structure is too congested, and lack of content does not help make up for this.

The game play is so addicting and feel way more refreshing than other FPSs. If you managed to overcome the fact that its MP only, being over priced on consoles and the lack of maps and modes , then you should give it a try. Its not "MINDLESS" shooter, it requires team work in order to secure victory. I would rate it 8, but since the game beg you to work with your team it did not really give many options to interact with the members of your team. (On consoles). Still this title is solid and i can assume that it will last in your library for 3 to 4 months at least.

The major reason why I can not rate this game much higher is for the fact that this is a dreadful port when compared to PC. No text chat, limited communication, and 2-3 minute wait times for games. You also can't choose map or gamemode. The other major downside is that there are major balancing issues console side, 2+ Torbjorns (the dwarf character) on console=instant loss. These issues are monumentally made worse by the fact that Blizzard doesn't patch the game often enough on console partially due to Sony's delays for patch roll-outs. Overall, I say to anybody who wants to pick up Overwatch, get the PC version at all costs.

I think the highlights of this game are the characters. Very well developed, all very interesting. The graphics, gorgeous and pixar-like. The sound effects, crisp noticeable and in all the right places. Lastly, the gamer environment is so less toxic than most, it is an absolute marvel. They did at the very worst an incredible job or producing a game that encourages positivity and teamwork.

However, (of course there's a however) this game in it's current state is not worth 60 dollars IN MY OPINION. There just needs to be more modes and I get it, that will be released later. At the time of purchase however, this game is not complete. Also, this game is not for people who want to play a solo game and just relax. It requires teamwork...REQUIRES...teamwork. For the most part you can't run in and just carry your team like you can in some FPS games, so be prepared for that as well. Lastly, and possibly the most complicated issue to me, the unlocks. Although they do a good job of giving you rewards often enough to satiate you, you will quickly feel the desire to purchase loot boxes. The game has been designed that way. its debatable whether things like voice-lines or icons should be worth the kind of money they are asking for. It feels like the rewards system needs some improvements as well, although I will admit no game has ever made me care as much about skins as I do with this one, it still feels like we are all just desperately clinging to any bit of unique customization we can get.

I think Overwatch is a high production quality great step in the right direction for gaming but I can't help but feel like we got a little swindled at release. With just a little more added to it this game is an 8 at the very least, maybe even higher.

Cons: Massive flaws in the conversion to a controller operating system. (some have been fixed since launch such as the new communication stick, ability to bind keys, change sensitivity etc) . This game has probably the worst aiming of any multiplayer shooter I've played on console. To counter this it also has huge character models, and very strong auto aim. (in my opinion this takes a lot of skill out of the game, combined with the average hit detection and lag assist can make the experience very frustrating.

Story: There is zero story packed into the game If you want to find the story the only thing you can do is watch the trailer for the game that give the background of the world, Its a weird way of doing a story for a game and at the same time a very bad way, because it never covers why these heros are fighting each other or why at all, So because of a lack of a story mode we are forced to watch the trailers for the game to even understand who any of these people are and thats a bad way of doing a story for a game.

Gameplay: Best part of the game by far but only for a few hours after that it gets very repetitive You have a ton of heros to play as and They ALL play very differently they did an excellent job with the heros but it all fades away with only 3 game modes to play and you'll be doing the same thing over and over again I would go into more detail but honestly theirs nothing else its very lacking instead they try to keep things fresh with a wide variety of maps but that still comes down to being repetitive

Performance/Graphics: The game Runs super smooth and the graphics are something fresh and new that I like ive gotten really bored of the ultra realistic graphics everyone seems to be going for these days, no bugs have seen flawless so far

Censorship: This game has fallen under some scrutiny for censoring a character called tracer due to sjw backlash It was a pose they showed off her butt and they removed it from the game , but soon after they replaced it with a just as exposing one which makes me think why even took it out at all? and various print outs of characters that were under out houses in maps were removed due to them making a dirty joke about masturbation.

Personal Thoughts/Verdict: Blizzard has had a long track record of amazing games but i feel for this one they took a step back with the sheer lack of content very little gameplay variety and the 60 dollar price tag for console instead of the pc 40 dollar version which is just unfair my verdict is a 5/10 In mp opinion blizzard got it wrong this time hopefully they can do better on their next project

Overwatch is a fun game but it's a little overhyped. For starters, the lack of a story mode and the inclusion of microtransactions in a paid title, are something that seem to have been completely overlooked by the games journalists. Now, none of these are dealbreakers in my book. Other games have launched with no story and sadly microtransactions are a part of our lives now. Now, none of these are dealbreakers in my book. Other games have launched with no story and sadly microtransactions are a part of our lives now. The microtransactions in Overwatch are purely for cosmetic items and do not give you any benefits in game (other than looking/sounding cool), so it's a fair system. You can also earn everything for free, if you have the patience of a Zen Buddhist Monk, otherwise you're going to pony up some cash. It's a system designed for gambling, addiction, and frustration.

Anyway, gameplay wise it's a lot of fun. The characters are all very unique and interesting. They all play differently and give you a variety of ways to contribute to your team. If you're not the world's greatest aim, that's all right, you can play a support and focus more on helping your teammates versus trying to kill everyone yourself. The game is very "casual" friendly in that it doesn't focus on kill/death ratio, it has fun things like play of the game and allows people to vote/commend other players who did well. It's a bit short on maps and modes, there's only three modes and the assault/defense and team deathmatch just don't feel all that different from each other.

Overall, I don't think it's worth $60, more like $30 or better yet since it has microtransactions should have been F2P. Personally for me it gets old, pvp is something I enjoy but only in doses and eventually it gets frustrating and of course you're inevitably going to run into something that is annoying. Whether that be people running a troll team (all McCrees) or just someone who is loads better than you and dominating you. In those times I like to have a story mode to retreat to and OW lacks that. If you are big into pvp and/or just really loved Team Fortress 2, go for it. Personally, there are other "hero shooters" I prefer to Overwatch.

Firstly, without that, the game does not particularly justify either it's cost or the COD style microtransactions, which should NOT be in here (damn you Activision). The story/opening cutscene bit hints at interesting lore and PvE which is totally absent, and is therefore totally confusing; had this game had some sort of PvE it could have been pushing towards 9/10. Other games get **** for not having coherent SP campaigns of this sort, but the Overwatch marketing machine seems to have given it a pass. No doubt I'll still be playing this for as long as my friends are, but personally I have found very few characters gratifying to play as, mostly due to the lack of sprint, making play slow and irritating if you die a couple of times in succession (hence I mostly use Tracer). No doubt this is a good game, if somewhat lacking in content, but as usual has been hyped up to such proportions that all the mainline reviewers were only ever going to give it 8/9/10 etc. Why these people get caught up in the hype even more than most of the player base I have no idea, but maybe the user scores can be a little more representative. Loot crates are a fun way to add more depth and value to the game the sad part is that you only receive them when you level. Most of the stuff contained in loot crates are garbage aside from the skins. It's obvious that they were just trying to find random things to fill in the crates and keep you on the hamster wheel. The better alternative would have been to have individual armor / skin pieces and allow you to mix and match parts so that you can really get creative and custom. It's an area where I think MOBA's and Hero shooters lack. Skins are nice but it's more fun to allow inter-skin / armor mix and matching would go a long way and then you can introduce new character armor and the loot boxes now have more value instead of getting a dumb spray paint or heroic entrance and stuff like that. Also it would be nice if they added a 3rd person perspective. With the beautiful character models it would be nice to be able to see your character in 3rd person not 1st person. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I played Overwatch for a while now and i think this game is really overhyped.
Overwatch is not a bad game but it has little variation in gameplay and modes.
And when i played i noticed that most of the time i had to capture the hardpoint instead of defend it.
that is why i gave Overwatch not such a high score.
I think Battleborn is a better game with more variation

After 30 hours game play, I think this game deserved 7, but -1 for ridiculous buggy PS4 achievements design, -1 for kid style art. I wonder this game is just designed for the kids rather than adults.

It's a fun game for a few hours but I don't get why Overwatch is so loved, past the 1st week...

Game is fun and have really simple mechanics. BUT i would not buy the full price on it. I did and i regret it. Its clear an unfinished game, with a few maps and poor objectives to conquer. Some times its become a mess with so many heroes and ultimates in a same place.

Wait for the price drop and some extra content. Unless you have all your friends playing on it for the competitive mode.

And to add insult to injury, it uses RNG loot boxes rather than letting buy what you want. And At $40 minimum, it becomes apparent that this is less a game and more like a mechanism to vacuum more filthy lucre from anyone foolish enough to play.

Not helping matters is how the actual gameplay itself has the depth of a dixie cup, and some characters are unforgivably broken i.e. Bastion, who's minigun spam shames even Legion from Titanfall 2. Spawn camping is a major issue, as the defending team can park themselves outside the attackers' front door for a savage ROFL stomping.

The feel of the game is alright I guess, but half the controller is under-utilized. The whole game just gets boring so fast; it's slow and quiet, and the weapons and attacks lack any impact or feedback. None of the heroes are satisfying to play, exacerbated by the stupidly long respawns and long walks back to the objective (god help you if you're playing one of the slower, tank-y characters). The fact that almost none of the attacks are hitscan is nice, but again, have all the impact of a nerf gun.

As for the characters themselves, while the artwork is very good, none of the characters move beyond broad stereotype. With no villains or villainous factions, can you really call these people heroes?

This game doesn't deserve even an eighth of the hype it received, and ignore the slavering hordes of fans who will accuse you hating the game for not being Team Fortress 2.

A unique approach to fps games, with different characters bringing something totally different to the team. Really makes you think, in terms of strategy. The gunplay though, I just don't find it as satisfying as Destiny/COD/Battlefield. I get how it's very popular though, I just find the alternatives a bit more appealing.

    Then, there's everything else...

Straight to the point, outside of the online mode, there is very little content and almost non-existent single player content. I love single player games and are my favorite games to play. Overwatch has plenty of material to have single player content but nope. Instead it's almost exclusively online and for someone like me, it has very limited replay-ability. If this game had something akin to a single player campaign, I would cut it some slack. Also, no local multiplayer mode. Whoever thought that a game like Overwatch should not have a local multiplayer should be demoted. This game would have been much better if it had local multiplayer.

Overwatch's focus on strictly online really hurts the game by the lot. What if you don't have PS+, Xbox Live Gold or a good internet connection? And if you do get into a game, the online community isn't very helpful or encouraging as it has been quite notorious how bad or even cruel they can be. The game had to make up for people who do not want to play the game online but it doesn't and for people who are interested in the lore, they have to leave the game to get it's tidbits of lore. Leaving the game to understand it's lore and enrich it's universe is not good design.

This is a really disappointing game and it baffles me how people can consider this to be 2016's Game of the Year or even one of the best games of all time when there are much better games out there deserving of both those titles.

While I can't speak for any other platforms that the game is on since there are different people playing on different platforms, the game is very well done as of right now. However, the community is one of the worst I have ever seen.

To begin with, the game's developers are not ever going to release paid DLC for maps or characters or anything of the sort. Those are all going to be included in patches. Blizzard is also continuously trying their best to balance the game according to pick rate and people's feedback. However, I will agree that sometimes their changes do feel unjustified. Changes such as these make the character feel very weird in terms of balancing, and it can remain a problem for a long time.

The game's balancing issues aside, it has spectacular graphics, fluid gameplay, and good music (that is when there IS music). Very responsive controls, and has a very advanced Options menu to adjust the experience to your liking. The game also runs at a steady 60 fps on console (aside from the rare frame rate drop when a lot of ultimates are used before the first checkpoint in Dorado), which many games fail to achieve. Just have a stable internet connection in order to play well on it. Keep in mind that this game is online only.

The game's community, however, makes the game a chore to play sometimes. It's difficult to play on certain days, just because of the people playing it. If you want to go casual, you might try Quick Play. However, many people will just pick Offense characters and not make it easy for you to play the character you want to play. And that's fine, people can play what they wish to play in Quick Play. Say you would like a more serious game mode, you could try Competitive Play. However, if you get someone that is using a microphone in that mode, I wish you luck because I guarantee someone will start screaming at another member of the team to step their game up because they have "gold medals in everything and everyone sucks". I recommend you play with friends in order to keep any of the above from happening. This game is a CHORE to play by yourself.

So, what to get from this:

    -Fluid gameplay and responsive controls
    -Steady frame rate
    -Good, but rare music
    -Weird balancing situation
    -Horrible community

-Characters provide a variety of different playstyles and strategies
-Setting and art style is very aesthetically pleasing
    -Classes balanced fairly well

    Cons
    -Lack of content
    -Micro-transactions (more on this later)
-Only 3 game modes at launch (competitive play will be out soon, if it's not already)

The moment to moment gameplay in here is tense, fast paced and ultimately very satisfying. Those purely interested in a competitive experience will not regret playing this game. One thing that reviews from gaming sites/publications do not address though: lack of content. My understanding is that you can get a $40 dollar version on PC, but on PS4 (and I'm assuming Xbox One) the cheapest version you can buy is $60 (that I'm aware of). For $60, you get 12 maps, and 3 game modes. Other games seem to be punished in their score for a lack of fresh content, yet this game gets a pass. I find this very troubling. I could speculate on the reasons all day, but I won't bother doing it here. Games like Destiny, and even the Division, to a lesser extent, have been derided for a lack of content, from consumers and gaming publications alike. I know its blizzards first new IP in awhile, but they should not be given a pass due to their name recognition.
Also, how they handle micro-transactions is pretty awful as well. Now, this is in no way pay-to-win. The only things you can pay for are purely cosmetic and do not affect gameplay, this is not the issue. The issue is that what you can buy for real world money is a pull of the slot machine. You get 1 loot box every time you gain a level, and in this loot box is a handful of cosmetic things (skins, voice lines, spray paints, emblems) that appear at random. It is also possible to get gold in varying sizes (by rarity) which you can then use to buy those cosmetic items that you want. My issue comes from the fact that buying these loot boxes means you are buying boxes, hoping to roll whatever it is that you desire. If you are going to charge $60 for this barebones game, paying extra should be for something you want, not a chance at something you want.

    In Conclusion:
I know most of the previous paragraph makes it seem like I do not like this game, but I assure you that is not the case. Just wish there was more there for $60. Either that, or lower the price point. If you've played Team Fortress 2, you will feel right at home here, and that was bundled in the Orange box with arguably 2 of the best games in the modern era for the same price. All that being said, this game is frantic, sometimes hilarious fun, that you should definitely play if you can, just buy it on PC if you are able and save yourself 20 bucks, or wait for a price drop.

Matching is quick but it tends to leave you in the same group of 12 until someone leaves. This sometimes sucks if you get matched against very good/bad players. You will play them over and over unless you leave matching.

Its a twitch shooter-- the quick or the dead. If you have any lag (such as I do in Australia) are slow or bad aim, you will not have a good time of it. The game is fast and confusing at times. No mini-maps. Team-mate indicators are small; healers can see their team through walls but it is still hard. Doesn't work with support like Zarya. Close to no real team play or strategy whatsoever beyond two things: Move as a team when possible and know your role/switch your when necessary.

That said, character skills are varied and fun but certain 'easy' characters are over-used and frustrating. D.Va, Bastion and Reinhartd, to name a few. Also, there is no vibration hit indication on console, (vibrates only when you're attacking, not for when you're being hit) so its very difficult to tell you're getting hit until you hit 25% health. By then its often too late. Prepare to die. A lot.

There is only one melee character. Rest are ranged. Its very KTD orientated and there is close to no retreat -- you have to be pretty lucky to get away and/or have an escape skill ready for bad situations. Some will die and die often whenever 1v1ing anybody as they are pretty slow and have no escape abilities: Ana, Symmetra, Zarya, Torb. I feel this is an over-sight that hinders the enjoyment of these characters greatly, especially since they are relatively weak characters, even Zarya who is technically a 'tank'.

Games are fun yet repetitive. Matches are random-- you cannot chose game type nor map type. That said all game types are pretty similar. Even the maps all feel kinda the same. Also, the game is flawed in that the game mechanic itself gives an advantage to better players. Those with bad aim will not charge their Ults very easily; those that have good aim and good KTD are constantly popping off their Ults left and right. This is all well and fine, except that a well placed Ult can wipe an entire team. Its a one-sided dynamic that means that once a team starts winning, it is ridiculously tough to break them as they will Ult all over your team over and over. Coming back from a wipe is ridiculously hard. On the topic of dying, while respawn time is quick, it does often take about 10+ seconds to get back to the point of contention, and you have no way of knowing if your team status (unless you watch the kills on the right but this is hard to do in battle) so once a team starts picking you off individually it becomes difficult to come back as a team from this.

And while the chars look baller, there's also an inherent blandness to the character designs and personalities. At one point, Lucio says to D.Va: 'Oh wow, you're D.Va, can I get your autograph!' and her reply was a 'Oh, only if I can get yours too! I love your music.' it was such a nothing exchange and it felt ridiculously contrived. The funniest lines are when you kill someone mid-Ult and their line gets interrupted, like 'It's High N--urk" with McCree. That's not even scripted.

I don't feel its a lot of game for the price, and I think it's incredibly over-hyped esp. by official critics. Its good and fun but it has its flaws like any other game, it doesn't really have anything things like TF2 doesn't except looks and polish. Also the loot box system kinda sucks, its expensive and mostly I kept getting stupid sprays which I use in the waiting room and nowhere else.

Honestly? I'll get hate for this, but I tried Battleborn too and while they are totally different, BBs team aspect just gives me more enjoyment and suits my playstyle more. Less twitchy. More team strategy, more forgiving of lag, more objectives, no skill can one-shot, single player mode-- its also super funny. Got killed by this old character today, and his taunt line was 'Oh no, you just got beat up by a geriatric!' lol. I wasn't even mad. Also way more melee characters (at least 7 I think) and better balance. Games feel more satisfying, especially wins. It has a pretty bad learning curve, but so did OW. And can be confusing but I think OW can be just as confusing at times with the 'crap-- what killed me' moments. It's not as 'pretty' or polished as OW but I find it more fun for me. It is like an ugly but tasty dish. I do like and I still play OW, and I am looking forward to new chars, but I am not much of a FPS twitcher, more of a team player, so its not exactly the game to suit me. If you are that person you will love OW more. If not, try BB.

I just want to say that playing as every hero feels unique, and extremely fun. But one of the core flaws I found with the game was how much the tanks slowed down the combat. If the other team has three tanks, it's absolutely painstaking to break through their defenses sometimes. Its combat is fast, which I really enjoy about it. Then, there are the Ultimate abilities, and most of them are pretty good. But I find that the ultimate economy destroys the main part of Overwatch, which is being able to switch quickly to a different hero to counter another one, as you lose all your Ult. Charge, and so are at a massive disadvantage. I heard a statement that I really related to, 'When it's fun, it's extremely fun. When it's bad, it is terrible.' I play this game only casually, and I hate having to have a coin flip if I'll like the match or not. I only really have fun with Control and Payload maps, which are much faster and give every Hero a decent opportunity. But you can't choose what maps you want to play, resulting in another coin-flip. Then there are the heroes, and while I think it's slightly important to make each one of your characters have distinct personalities, Blizzard took it to the next level. For a game with no campaign, it certainly tries to make you love every character, and get invested in the incredibly stereotypical Sci-Fi story. The game looks very nice, I won't lie about that at all, everything well-textured and very smooth. The soundtrack is pretty enjoyable, every map having its own special style of music, but nothing, except the excellent, uplifting main theme, really sticks out as amazing. So overall, as a world, Overwatch is pretty solid. But this is a game, and when the gameplay isn't all too enjoyable, the world means nothing. I don't hate Overwatch, in fact, I think it's pretty likeable, but it has key flaws like the Ult. economy, broken hero launches, the reliance on people switching, even though no-one wants to and the lack of a campaign. Buy only during a sale, honestly. Expand

And unlike other games that you grow tired of playing and can eventually return to, there comes a point with this game where you will put it down and never pick it up again. That at least is what happened to me. After playing this game for a while, you'll begin to feel that there's nothing really left to discover. It is a perfectly complete circle and I often times felt myself going mad going around and around the circle. This problem is slightly amended by the addition of free DLC, but even the DLC still fails to really offer anything that doesn't become subsumed into the restrictions of the game.

It's multiplayer is fun and engaging, but it hampers its customization options with loot boxes in order to drip feed money from people's wallets, despite buying the game at full price. Not all heroes are going to be equally used or even liked, but it does at least give a very nice selection for different players to utilize and experiment with. The gamemodes, while alright initially, do start to show its mediocrity and shows that there is not enough game modes to feel really interesting. There are competitive modes along side with custom game modes, but with the main player base in the general realm of quickmatches, the overall experience will deteriorate by your 50th match. At least for me, I was just getting bored and frustrated more than some and after 25 hours of play, I just thought it was not really for me. I cannot fully recommend Overwatch, but it is a good game that can be worth your time if you like that sort of idea and structure. Expand

This rating is tad bias, as I prefer shooters that are more realistic and not as arcade-like. That is what Overwatch is, a blend of arcade style play; where you pick up and play. Right away, I ignored the single player mode, as I knew what I was getting into. Which is totally not how I approach FPS games, normally I complete or play into the campaign and dive into the MP later.

The game gives you fighting game style selection screen where you pick your character. All of them are unique in personality, movement and abilities. (WHICH IS A FABULOUS IDEA) HOWEVER, Overwatch's seriously lacks in gameplay variety outside of the many characters you can choose from. That doesn't mean the game ISN'T FUN, it's quite the opposite!

Yet, my qualm comes from its oversimplicity. Playing the game never seemed to be as challenging and I found myself getting 1 and 2 places, almost every match going against over HUMAN players. (Not gloating, just stating facts.) For that reason, I didn't like and decided to return it.

This game is so frustrating. The heroes are very unbalanced and everything happens way too fast, you either die 50 times or kill 50 enemies, depending on what hero you choose. It has no campaign and too few game modes. Not worth buying it.

Decent multiplayer shooter with some interesting characters, but a lot of the characters feel very underpowered and not very fun to play as. the continued support from Blizzard is great, and this game actually has one of my favorite forms of lootboxes as its not incredibly intrusive and doesn't require real money.

Overwatch is an online team based shooter that takes from a lot of other games, including MOBAS, arena shooters, and of course, other hero based games.

When it comes to gameplay, you have a choice between multiple characters, each one unique in its own way, and each one with unique abilities to use in order to turn the games in your favor. “Ultimates”, the special moves your characters can use, show the very simplistic and casual nature of the game. Most of the games can be won by the use of an ultimate at just the right time, rendering any amount of skill involved in the minutes prior, at times, completely pointless. Despite this, the casual nature of the game can make it appealing to all kinds of people, especially those who are not well experienced with proper shooting games, or would just like something easy to pick up and play to wind up and relax.

Overwatch issues do not lie in the fact that it tries hard to be something it was never meant to be - that is, a competitive multiplayer experience. Rather, they lie in both its community and its developers.
With such dedicated following of course, it’s crazy to think that toxicity wouldn’t be a thing. The online experience, in fact, can be quite disruptive and disappointing, more so here than in other similiar games, forcing some players to turn off voice communication entirely. Given the “social” nature of the game, this is a big problem. Not much effort has been made from the developers to fight this problem, and on top of that -gameplay wise- the balance between characters gets changed and modified ever so frequently in major and gameplay altering ways, leaving people who haven’t played in a while extremely confused once they finally come back. Character balancing is something that i’m sure most people would love to see more often in their multiplayer shooters, if it wasn’t for the fact that Overwatch developers seem to be ignoring crucial balancing needs and instead going their own way with changes that are, most of the time, unneeded and unnecessary.

The in game lootbox based economy allows you to unlock customization options for each character, either by leveling up and playing the arcade modes, or by getting them with real money. Each customization can be extremely pricey, depending on whether it is a a voice line or an appearance altering skin. Getting to the point where you’re able to finally unlock the item you want can take weeks and weeks, and it doesn’t help that some of the rare skins are locked behind seasonal events, which only grant you the chance to get the desired item for a short period of time, before getting locked again for another year. Luckily, gameplay isn’t affected in any way by skins and such, making players, technically, all at the same level of skill. This matchmaking system, unfortunately, doesn’t seem to work very well. It’s common to see way more experienced players getting matched up against newcomers and viceversa. This issue is amplified by the lessening of the overall player count seen in recent months, and its something newcomers will have to deal with whether they like it or not.

To sum it up, Overwatch is a simplistic and colorful shooter, with an appeal that will surely get the attention of the more casual crowd. It’s easy to fall in love with this game, but even easier to see its very apparent shortcomings. If you can get past the clueless developers and the atrocious community, you’ll find a very casual but enjoyable game, which becomes even better when played with friends.

Overwatch is an entertaining and captivating PvP game that has an interesting and diverse cast of characters in an intriguing world, but fails to actually incorporating any narratives into the game.

Whilst it is very enjoyable to play, the game suffers from a lack of balance within the large cast of characters, a poor match-making system and an unfortunately toxic community both in and outside of the competitive scene.

The worst aspects of Overwatch is what it lacks. There is no proper progression system where you are properly rewarded for playing the game - instead you play several matches at a time to level up and receive a lootbox, which may or may not reward you with anything that feels rewarding (most of the time it does not). Even with its competitive scene rewarding unique currency, it is a grind to obtain and can only be used to unlock the same golden variation of each character's weapons.

The best aspect of Overwatch is, or perhaps it is better to say *was* it's frequent content drops, which included new cosmetics, maps, characters and events that kept the game fresh and enjoyable at least for a limited time. However, now the game has been barren of any real content for years and this only further highlights the flaws with the game.
