Overwatch is an online only multiplayer shooter..
there is no story here other than a quick introduction when the game starts up, and there is no single player campaign..
Its basically play the tutorial and then jump into the action…
There are 21 unique feeling characters all separated into 4 different classes, offense, defense, tank and support.. so you can contribute to your team in any way you please whether that’s getting kills, being a shield, or healing
Some classes do have more character variety than the other.. but every last character has its own weapon and special abilities with cool downs, so youre guaranteed to find one to match your playstyle, and hopefully youll find at least 1 in each class for whatever each situation calls for, as you can switch characters during the match much like a gun loadout in other competitive multiplayer shooters
so if youre not feeling one, go down the list until you find your right fit..
All of this is great,, every character feels useful in their own way..
The only problem is theres not much here
There are 12 maps here which is a decent amount of variety, but none stood out to me…
I can easily name maps in other shooters that are fun to just run around and kill people in..
But I couldn’t here.. they all really feel the same…
And evry mission is just objective based…
    You have capture.. escort…and control…
Basically youre either fighting or defending a section of the map at all times…
I understand that these are really the only kind of missions that make sense in a game thats about character variety…
But I’d like to see some innovation beyond just the characters…
Maybe coming up with modes for each individual classes, such as a team death match for offense and tanks only
a tower defense for the defense and support team…
    get creative
Not just the same modes in every other shooter set inside pretty average maps…
After you’ve put your hours into the game youll level up which unlocks a loot box…
And inside of these loot boxes are garbage taunts, costumes, and sprays…
You grind to looks different while you do the same thing for hours on end.
Which honestly I wouldn’t mind all too much if there was more gameplay variety
I can only capture and defend for so long
Negatives aside, Overwatch is a decently fun multiplayer shooter that I feel fans of this genre will enjoy
    I give overwatch an 8.0/10

As someone who had never played a team-based shooter before Overwatch, I was surprised at how easily-accessible the game is. Unlike Team Fortress 2 which while a solid game in its own right, is a much more technical game, Overwatch is one of those games where you can just jump right back in.

Each character also has its own unique strengths and weaknesses that can fit pretty much any playstyle. If you like to be a speedy player like the Scout, play Tracer. Like being in the air and picking off opponents from the sky? Go for Pharah. If you're not really a team player and like being a Lone Wolf, pick Reaper. And if you're like me and just like to stay in the opponent's face and never give them a chance to breathe, go for D Va.

Also, unlike TF2, customizing your characters doesn't give you an advantage over other players who haven't played as much as you have. And if you want a challenge, Competitive Mode will do that for you, placing a much-needed "1 character per team" limitation, which helps add balance and also make the player branch out and play other characters in case their main character of choice is taken.

I also like how Blizzard has seen the differences between console and PC versions and have patched them separately based on the needs of each version.

However, that's not to say that the game has its flaws. And the main flaw centers around its Loot Box system and micro-transactions, something that I feel holds no place in a full-priced game.

All in all, though, the world needs Heroes, and the gaming world needs games like Overwatch

It's a stylised and cartoonish take on shooters, but don't let that fool you, because it's insanely well-balanced (although of course there will always be opinions about such things) by a scissors-rock-paper setup. At this point, however, it becomes quite clear that you'll get an advantage by playing with friends and utilise characters and their powers combined. Playing solo ain't always easy, but it's just as fun.
A downside for me is that the game lacks campaign, this is pure online FPS, although Blizzard does update with seasonal events which have included campaign-like content. A huge plus-side though is that all the updates, whether it'd be new characters or new levels or other content, is 100% free of charge. You buy the game, and thats it. No DLC-buy:s needed. It's a great way to keep a community on par with each other and it's a great nod from Blizzard too, acknowledging that they understand the morale of when to charge for something and when not to. Overwatch is a great game to play, it's a joy to come back to again and again, alone or with friends.

What initially starts as an amazing and fun experience slowly erodes into an all too predictable formula that fails to keep my interest with its very small amount of modes and content. As well as an unacceptably low tick rate.

Overwatch is a great game graphically, gameplay wise, and story wise but where most of the game is strong the games biggest downfall at least at the moment is a lack of content. The heroes are well designed and feel diverse but while 21 sounds like a lot but you soon figure out the ones you enjoy and don't enjoy from each category and the rest will just sorta sit there unused. The maps are colorful and have diverse level design. The one flaw that i can't defend this game from is the level up and microtransaction systems, the way it works is every time you level up you get a loot box which contains a random set of 4 items that can be poses, emotes, skins, etc. You can also buy these boxes with real money, The problem being the contents are randomized, you can pull duplicates, you can get items for heroes you don't want to play (i got three zenyatta skins including his legendary even though i don't play him), and you have to hope that the box has the ingame currency so you can buy things you actually want. In conclusion overwatch is fun, even addicting at times but there's little to play here and the game tries to keep you playing with box openings that are not really that exciting like other box openings in games due to you getting some hardly noticeable or just plain unwanted things like voice lines.

With that aside, Overwatch is a great FPS competitive multiplayer game that is easy to pick up and play. Each character is very unique and fun to play.

GRAPHICS: Great detail and love in the maps and to the characters - its very upbeat and lighthearted and works very well with a smooth 60 FPS.

SOUND: Great sound design with good banter and indicators as well as source to reception variability.

SOUNDTRACK: Not amazing but fits with the game for sure.

VOICE: Well voice acted with small tidbits of sayings and emotes - not a big part of the game but is well done none the less and adds to the enjoyment.

GAME PLAY: Incredibly varied and fun but released with only 4 modes and 12 maps.

REPLAYABILITY: Very replayable and is is built for replay and hopefully free updates will expand the content, but this is Activision that is publishing it and microtransactions are already present - so one will most likely have to pay for every piece of additional content.

For me the game is worth $40 and I will get $40 worth of enjoyment out of it. If you are on the fence, see if you can try it on console or rent it for a console to see if it fits for you. If you like Team Fortress at all, then I think you will really enjoy this title.

The game features 12 maps currently, and has 3 different 6v6 objective based game mode, (escort, assault, and control) each of which allows for use of all of the different heroes this game has to offer. The maps are very well designed, each having various different locations and choke points that help tailor to each characters role and set of skills. There are high vantage points for snipers to rain damage from, as well as low hiding spots and vast lanes for players to take advantage of.

This game is very team based. It greatly rewards players who use teamwork and are able to correlate each hero's skill set with one another. So to speak, this game has a much more rewarding experience when playing with a group of friends or a set team. From what I've played, solo queueing isn't bad, it's just hard to be abe to communicate and correlate with a bunch of random players. For a better experience with this game, I very much recommend finding a group of players to play with, as opposed to playing by yourself.

This game also offers cosmetics you can attain for you heroes by opening lootcrates. Lootcrates are gained simply by leveling up or can be bought at a price. These cosmetics are essentially what they are, cosmetics, and will not alter the gameplay at all.

If you've played the beta, this game is unchanged currently. Same maps, same heroes, and same game modes. I anticipate that Blizzard will continue to update this game with new content and gameplay balances, so if you liked it then, you'll like it now!

Another great thing about this game is that there's tons of unlock-ables that you can get through opening loot boxes. Every loot box contains four items. Ever item is specific to one of the 21 hero's you can choose from. And the customization isn't too bad either for all of the characters. You have intro's to choose from, skins, different sprays.

The only negative things I've gathered from this are that it may eventually become repetitive if Blizzard doesn't add new maps and new things to the game.

The key word here is fun, as Blizzard has created a world where you discover new characters and new features and abilities whether you have played 5 games or 105 games and, despite the lack of a story or a variety of game modes, Overwatch will keep you hooked and playing for hours. This is something that games like The Division has failed to do lately.

The multiple characters, each with their own unique abilities and traits that provide something different to each game mode and battle, give the game an interesting and diverse aspect that will keep everyone hooked. What stands out here though is how strategic the game can be. Rather than choosing one character and giving him traits or perks and playing every game the same way, Overwatch requires you to play as a team, look at what the team has and what it needs, and adapt what character you choose and how you play in order to help the team win. This is something that might be new to console gamers, and could be hit or miss within the community.

Though Overwatch does lack in game modes, the modes that are there can provide hours of fun for a FPS multiplayer shooter, and the lack of story matters none in my opinion as I am totally immersed in the experience anyway.

I have already spent a lot of time in the game and still have stuff to learn; there are 22 different and unique characters to play with their own set of abilities.

Despite the calls of some of the people on that it will die in a month like titanfall I don't believe so, I have spent more then 75 hours in the game and am still discovering new things. I believe that as long as Blizzard continues to support the game it will be around for a long time to come.

The fact that there is no single player do not affect the lore of the game. Blizzard is releasing many videos and other materials that complement the lore.

The gameplay is simple and replicates tf2 in a lot of ways, but this is not a bad thing. TF2 was successful for a reason, albeit at a different price point, but more on that later. I foresee this game as being a game that people will play for awhile and even more people will join later as the price goes down because it is so approachable with likeable characters, strong gameplay, and good replayability. 2) There is a good community for this game...so far. Since this is a Blizzard game, I have no doubt this game will continue to have a growing fan base on twitch and youtube. It is almost impossible to avoid seeing let's plays of this game on youtube and so many people are already streaming the game. 3) Blizzard has told us that all new characters and maps will be free in the future. This is where the price of admission comes in and where Overwatch will have the opportunity to prove its worth. This is so rare in games today that are asking half the price of the game, or more, for an additional season pass. Cough... cough.... Battlefront. Given Battlefront has released some free DLC, there is still a $50 season pass to enjoy the majority of the game's additional content. Now, whether or not Blizzard will deliver on this front in a good way, is yet to be seen, but I have good faith that they will deliver on this front. Expand

This feels like the Team Fortress 2 of a new generation. Maps for the most part all play well and uniquely, all characters serve a purpose. Easy game to play but hard to master. I enjoy the wide variety of ways you can play the game, but some explosive abilities can be a little OP. Look forward to a competitive mode and what ever other additions they bring.

A very solid shooter. An abundance of characters to choose from with more to come from Blizzard, vibrant visuals, very well-designed maps, and deep mechanics. There is a slight lack of content at launch, but there are plenty of free updates coming, and the variety of characters there are to learn will keep everyone busy for awhile.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. before i start my overall review of this game one thing must be addressed first, free dlc for life. most of the negative comments for this game attack it solely because its not free to play. this game would not survive if it had that kind of system. locking characters behind a 5 or 10 dollar pay wall could not work because of how the game works. lets say that one character on the opposite team is destroying everyone on your team, the hero you are currently playing is weak to that certain character, so you decide to switch over to one that could easily defeat that character. because of the free to play system, you dont own a certain hero to counter that hero, so you basiclly lose the match because of it. imagine the 60$ as a but in fee, everyone has the same hero and same abilities, their is no advantage of some players spending the most to own all the heroes while most players only own 2 or 3. sure people can complain about spending money on loot boxes, but their purely cosmetic, and no advantage. the negative comments will also say that if you want a better multiplayer experience play call of duty or battlefield. over watch separates itself from those style of games. overwatch plays dramatically different from those games because not everyone has assault rifles or exo suits. each character in the game plays different from one another, and each has their own moves that they bring to help their team to hold the objective or to help move the payload. the game overall is graphically impressive and no lags or bugs what so ever, sound is very on point like every other blizzard title. blizzards main priority in all of their games is game play first, which is where the game raises the bar for other titles. if you are sick and tired of the generic team deathmatch call of duty where you sink 60$ every year plus 50$ dlc, overwatch is a cartoon style larger than life hero game with pulse rifles, scrap shotguns, heavy hammers, freeze guns, bow and arrows, Tesla guns, and so much more. are you with us? Let me list the things I love about Overwatch: It has fun and varied and attractive characters, multiple different game modes, gorgeous and well-designed zones, brilliant and rewarding post-game stats displays, built-in highlights, non-offensive microtransactions solely for cosmetic items, and so on.

Overwatch is a master class in videogame design. Here are some examples:

Enemy characters have louder footsteps, and their footsteps are distinctive—the samurai Hanzo is light on his fight while D.Va in her walking mech sounds like she’s clomping around in a robotic exoskeleton.

Character silhouettes are so distinct that you can identify which character is around the corner based on the shadow it is throwing on a wall down the hall.

The post-game screens are brilliant and feel rewarding regardless of your personal skill level. It is much more than just a leaderboard, recognizing you for performing well with stats that make sense for the particular character(s) you used that game.

A few technical problems on console do arise, and there are some imbalanced characters on particular maps and modes, but I have faith that Blizzard will fix these issues over time because they have legendary support of their games.

No matter what kind of gamer you are, you owe it to yourself to play Overwatch. It’s that great.

Having said that many people don't look past their initial impressions and dive deep into really looking game they decide to pay $60 dollars for. I have read reviews of people who when into Overwatch having not played the beta, having not seen gameplay, having not done any sort of research whatsoever and rated it obscenely poorly because they felt gypped when it was clearly their own fault for a poor allocation of their funds. $60 dollars is a lot. Is this game worth that much? I can't say that everyone would feel that way at least now but that doesn't affect that I feel the gameplay, the visuals, the score and the fun isn't worth the time and money I have put into it. There is more to come and many consumers haven't bothered to check that there isn't going to be 'only' 21 characters. They will be releasing more as the game's life cycle grows completely free. I can't imagine that the map count would be any different especially since that seems to be the way map content in games is shifting. I didn't see anyone complaining about 343 giving out all of their maps in Halo 5 for free. Another gripe I have been seeing is the lack of anything unlockable. I get that. But if that is all that drives you play Call of Duty, play Battlefield. Don't come into a game with preconceived notions that have no basis because you decided not to check it out before you blew your money and called it a crap game. It just makes you look stupid. All in all, this game is great. $60 dollars is a lot for a game period. For this game maybe a little more than that but wait it out. Do your research. Feel it out. Play it at a friends house first and if you don't like it, don't get it. If you do then sweet! You have a ton of people to play with that I know will be enjoying it just as much as you. This game is great. Lacking in a ton of content at the moment but when has Blizzard not been known to put out more? It'll come soonâ„¢. Definitely worthy of a high score. Expand

Many comparisons have been drawn to Team Fortress, but it also harkens back to a time when I still played games like Quake II and Unreal Tournament with my college buddies. Yet Overwatch is so much deeper and well-polished. The backstory is interesting, the cast is an unparalleled multi-cultural mix of instantly lovable personalities, the visual design is sublime, and the online functionality is flawlessly fluid. I love the concept of leveling for cosmetic loot, incentives for backfilling quick matches is genius in that it keeps you engaged and progressing regardless of your team's skill or success, and the contextual awareness between the characters you control means you don't even have to talk with strangers if you'd prefer to keep the mic off. All game-modes are objective-based, meaning that you must work as a team to defeat your opposition. Granted there is no campaign, but in a game like this it is not necessary whatsoever, there are animated shorts found online that give various characters there own backstory which add a nice touch to this sort of game. The gameplay is nice and smooth, with a stable frame-rate and feels extremely satisfying, Right now the summary of the game is out the way, I would like to turn to those who complain about this game and find loopholes in their complaints. First of all, yes it's online only, but this type of gameplay has already provided me and my friends with hundreds of hours of entertainment, not every game needs a campaign. Secondly, to the people who say this game should be free, future content for this game is free, granted not loot boxes as they're merely cosmetic choices, but anything to enhance gameplay is completely free of charge, Blizzard have stated this themselves, you're basically paying for all this dlc ahead of time, all of these purchases have been funded towards the future content, and so far, from Ana and Eichenwalde, they have delivered, with plenty more to come. Thirdly, to the people saying this game has only gained popularity through Blizzard's prestige is just straight hating the company and game imo. Honestly? I only played one Blizzard game before Overwatch, and that was World of Warcraft, and I didn't even like that game, hell, when I first heard of Overwatch I honestly brushed it aside and was more interested in Battleborn, oh how the tides have turned, and I can vouch there are more people like me who came along with next to information and have enjoyed this game, especially my friends. Overwatch is a incredibly fun game. Having a great team-based system, this is a great game for those interested in pure gameplay. Taking a different approach from traditional shooters, this game focuses on gameplay and teamwork.

The game has a cast of 22 heroes at the moment, with more coming for free in the form of patches (A incredibly generous move). Each one features a weapon, personality and a set of abilities unique to them, divided on four categories: Offense, Defense, Tank and Support.

Offense heroes are focused on, guess what, offense. They're flexible, have a high damage output and are overall better on combat situations. On the other hand, defense characters focuse on defending the objective. Tank heroes have extremely high health - The biggest health pool in the entire game, from Roadhog, 600 HP, is on this. - and are the "sponges" of the team. Most of the Support characters can heal, either with AoE (Lúcio), directly (Mercy), give shields (Symmetra), shoot them to heal (Ana) or with temporary orbs (Zenyatta).

As said before, each character has their own ability - For example, the ninja cyborg Genji can deflect shots, while the demolition maniac Junkrat can leave steel traps on the ground, while the Russian weightlifter Zarya can put barriers, which absorb damage to increase her damage output.

All characters also have a unique "Ultimate Ability", which either provide the team with special things (such as Widowmaker's Recon Visor, Ana's Nano Boost, etc.), crowd control (Winston's Primal Rage, Roadhog's Whole Hog, etc.) or deal insane ammounts of damage (Pharah's Rocket Barrage, Junkrat's RIP-Tire, Reaper's Death Blossom, D.Va's Self-Destruct, etc.). These must charge before usage - They charge slowly, but dealing damage can speed up the charging.

Every character is memorable and interesting - Overwatch did something similar to Team Fortress 2, one of the game's major's inspirations. The story is told outside of the game. Some characters had their own animations, (such as Hanzo and Genji having their own short titled "Dragons") while others had their own comics (Such as Torbjorn), but all of the histories can be found on the game's website - So characters such as Lucio, who has no animation or comic, have their stories told.

Each character has memorable quotes, such as McCree's "It's High Noon", D.Va's "Nerf THIS!", Soldier 76's "I've got you in my sights!", Junkrat's "Fire in the hole!" and many more.

Blizzard is constantly teasing us - Such as spreading simple hints like folders with names such as "Sombra", to making one frame codes that give out messages, and screens decoded to bar codes, further decoded into binary codes, further decoded into a QR code that gave out a message (Note: All of them point towards Sombra.)

It's a very fun game, focusing more on Teamwork and team composition more than any game. However, it does have its flaws - There aren't many maps and no story mode. But since there's more characters to come, it's possible that once all of them have been revealed, a story mode will be made. Recent datamining has revealed quotes that indicate future maps.

Every level you reach, you get a loot box. Inside, there are four items chosen randomly, such as outfits, sprays, voice lines, etc. There are also golden skins, which can be bought with 300 competitive points, which you gain 1 everytime you win a competitive match.

So, in short: It's a fun game that literally screams "Pick up and play and have fun." While offering no rewards aside from the loot boxes and the fun, it's a memorable game. The characters are very interesting, and so are the maps.

    - PLAYERS WITH MORE PLAYTIME INVESTED DO NOT HAVE AN ADVANTAGE. This was a major turnoff for me with other franchises (*cough* COD), and it feels great having a fair chance in every match rather than losing to someone just because they've been playing for 30 hours more than me to get the best weapon
    - Switching characters allows actions and reactions to every team composition, sounds weird at first, but you'll never go back after experiencing it.
    - Blizzard adding all future gameplay content (ie: everything but skins) for free. Plans for maps, modes, and heroes coming in the future.

    Cons:
    - MP only can still be daunting for some, although I contest that it is fun even for players new to FPS
    - Maps are specifically customized to be best for one mode, so no control on Route 66
    - Ranked play not up until June

Overall I'd say definitely give it a try, you'll most likely end up loving it and purchasing it for yourself

All in all, This IS a very good game, but those who wish to find a game that centers more in story should look at battle born, This game is polished and fun, but not as deep as I would like it.

They are consistently at the forefront of gaming mproducing excellent titles and over watch is no exception . Overwatch is extremely simple yet loaded with intricacies that will take you quite a while to master . Theron lies the key to spectacular game design simple yet complex . I'll admit I was on the fence about this game. I did not play the beta I have a job family and personally I don't like betas taking up space on my hard drive .

This title just oozes quality . From art design to mechanics to sound to gameplay everything is just stellar and polished . Game play is blistering fast and more importantly completely satisfying. There are 21 heroes to pick from and they all feel great with each having their own unique abilities and weapons . The game actively encourages teamwork and a balanced team . Kill to death ratios don't really matter here and MVP awards are voted on by teammates and enmities . Very rarely did I come across instances of teams not willing to work together . With the exception of one round where my team had 3 tracers myself being one . I altered my selection and went with someone else as it isn't like I didn't have choices .

Game modes are control assault and escort and honestly all 3 are a blast to play across 12 maps with maps catering specifically to one of the three mentioned game modes . Teamwork is encouraged one escort map I picked Reinhardt a character whom carries a massive shield . I only killed two people but I kept my team alive and the objective moving with 4 minutes total objective time my team covered my flanks and I trusted them to do so . In the end the enemy and my fellow team voted me MVP and honestly it felt great .

Having a cohesive team work toward the objective with everyone else on the same page just feels amazing as stated earlier kills don't matter here and teamwork is the word of the day . Let's talk dlc will there be any ?. Yes and get this folks it's all free nothing is locked behind paywalls . There are loot boxes and basically the upgrades are cosmetic and do not alter gameplay . None of this is important because playing more over watch is your reward . This game is addicting it is utterly masterful . What blizzard has accomplished here with no experience is what makes them with a select few others such a respected name in this world .

For the first time since metal gear solid 5 I'm giving a game a 10 those who have read my other reviews will know how I hold that title in such a high regard . I just may have a new favorite title . Utterly refreshing yet familiar simple yet complicated . Should you begin your overwatch ?. Everyone should I have and I have looked back quite simply this is video game bliss don't miss it .

Heck, many people who don't even play games know about the game. You know this already, but Overwatch is a team-based multiplayer shooter with an incredible cast of heroes to play as. Overwatch was successful before it even came out, but let me tell you why you need to buy this game-as long as you know for sure it's the game for you.

    Overwatch's Attraction
Of course, the main draw of OW is its roster. Every single character is different, even if they're technically classified as the same type of hero (offence, builder, tank, healer). They're also specially crafted for different kinds of situations, and every one contributes an equal part to a team. They're also layered with many pros and cons, and when you put heroes against each other, they form a rock-paper-scissors-like game-there are advantages and disadvantages. For example, one of my favorite heroes, Roadhog, has a deadly ability where he hooks people in and then blasts away with his powerful shotgun. This ability works great against a sniper when they're perched up on a roof, but careful using it against a close-range character, like Reaper. He'll blow you to bits! There are so, so, SO many more things in the game like this. My best advice is use all of the heroes! You'll be engaged in more fun and variety if you do so.

    The Intensity of the Fight
Before I get into what the matches are like, let me just say the matchmaking in the game is very smooth. Every single multiplayer match in OW requires precious teamwork and coordination. No, you don't ALWAYS have to play with friends (more on that later), but you have to be mindful of how you and your teammates work together. That also means knowing how to play your hero. No matter what weapon you use, shooting in the game feels great and easy. It's also quite simple how to kill people, but the complexity to that is knowing how to use your hero. Trust me, if you aren't willing to learn the deep characteristics of each hero and how to use them skillfully, don't get this game. But even with OW's deceptively deep mechanics, it's still an amazingly fun game.

    Verdict
I think the main reason OW has a 6.1 as its user score (a crime in my opinion) is its "lack of content and asking price". OW has only 3 variations of multiplayer matches, yes. I don't know how I can explain why OW would be the game for you, but you should know. If it totally is, it's worth every penny of $60. However, if that's not the case, wait for a sale (something that will be a long time coming most likely...) or just hold off on it entirely. My personal opinion of the game ends with this: Overwatch is some of the most fun I've ever had in a multiplayer game and I'm so glad I bought it.

Overwatch is an objective based six on six hero shooter from our pals over at Blizzard. You need to be connected to the internet to play, and the only single player content is in the form of bot matches. Again, if you need a campaign, this is not the game for you. With that out of the way, the multiplayer is sooo good. I'm forty hours in, and I'm still having a blast. There are 22 characters that fit into 4 classes who all feel unique, and only like, 13 maps, but let's not dwell on that. All the game modes are objective based (no team deathmatch or anything similar) so you have to stick with your team instead of wandering off alone. Team composition matters too, though playing six of the same character is admittedly fun.

The game is a bit light on content right now, that's true, but Blizzard has stated that all future heroes, maps, and game modes will be free, so that problem will fix itself later on. Even so, the game might not be worth it to you at full price. If it looks interesting, but you're not super into it, wait on a price drop.

In conclusion, pretty darn good, just not too much to keep the average person busy for hundreds of hours.

My biggest issue with the game is the weak lore, and lack of variety of maps, though the incredible cast of heroes compensate. It's a great game for all types of players. Lots of fun. Expand

Excellent game. The level of polish and depth is nearly unparalleled, met only by games like Battlefield and Rainbow Six. Yet this game, much like a MOBA, puts even more significance on teamwork and and team balance.

While the game does have some minor balancing issues, it’s remarkable how excellent the balancing is throughout the many heroes despite how incredibly different each character plays. No other shooter had such minimal balancing issues yet so much character variety.
I also commend the game for avoiding any significant IAP’s or other unnecessary monetizations.

    Excellent game all in all.

I don't really get the negativity on here - people are reviewing it, complaining that it has no single player campaign, yet the publisher and developers never suggested it was anything other than online multiplayer only. People should be reviewing the game for what it is.

Others are complaining about the lack of gaming modes... yet when I go on Call of Duty, about 99% of gamers are playing Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint. Adding more modes to Overwatch wouldn't necessarily make it a better game.

There 21 characters to choose from, which is 12 more than the number of specialists available in Black Ops III (if you don't count Blackjack who has to be earned from contracts). All 21 characters play very differently - no one can seriously suggest that you can pick any two characters and "they're exactly the same". Sure - try McCree for one game, then change to Reinhardt - and tell me they feel the same.

Blizzard has promised free DLC in the future, DLC meaning maps and characters. So I wonder why people are calling this a F2P or Pay 2 Win game? You can buy credits for the game, but all they can be used for is to unlock skins and themes (much like Black Ops III). It is most definitely not a F2P or Pay 2 Win game - you pay for the game, and you get the whole game.

And yet others are complaining that the game is expensive... the same complainers are probably happy to sink far more money into the countless FIFA games which, to be honest, are just rehashed versions of the previous year's game. When you play a FIFA/PES game, do you complain that "there aren't enough maps or game modes"? Why do I have to kick a football about in every game? Some people really ought to re-read what they've written about Overwatch before complaining.

Then there's the complaint that there's "not enough depth" in the story. Sure, COD has lots of depth lol. And what about FIFA? A bunch of men kicking a football around - lots of story there. And Bloodborne... great game, but the story is practically non-existent.

Last but not least, some people are complaining that the game looks cartoony or childish. Yet I've not heard that said about games like Ratchet & Clank (which looks cartoony and childish), and countless other games. I get the feeling haters just want to hate.

Overwatch has a lot of great humour, and there's a lot of attention to detail in the game. The game relies on solid teamwork much more so than other FPS's, and that's where this game can shine above others. If you have not already tried the game, find a friend who can shareplay with you for an hour or two - quite likely you'll be hooked. Hours will pass when you swear it's just mere few minutes. That's the definition of a great game - something that you keep pouring hours into, yet it doesn't feel like you've played for more than half an hour.

Personally I'm glad that Blizzard decided not to make the game F2P (with microtransactions), as that would've just made it Pay 2 Win. The usual people who complain about the cost of the game are probably the same people who happily sink dollars/pounds into McDonalds "meals" every day. I paid US$40, which is peanuts considering the girlfriend and I have already sunk 20 hours into the game between us, and her son has added another 20 hours on top. $1 an hour (up to now) is extremely cheap entertainment... and we're still playing.

Great objective based squad FPS. Great characters all being unique and memorable. After you try all of them out you'll easily find one to match your play style. One of the best in the genre and highly recommended.

FPS focused on team objectives. Definitely NOT like most other shooters. Super fun in groups, boring to play solo. If they keep adding characters and maps I won't really ever get bored of it.

I'd like to preface this with two facts; I'm not normally a fan of competitive shooters, and I picked up Overwatch with the expectation that it would hold my attention all of one weekend. I've never been so happy to be wrong.

Overwatch is not a twitch shooter like Call of Duty, nor is it a grind-worthy DOTA clone like Battleborn. Instead it takes the best of both worlds to make an amazing team based shooter with enough content to remain fresh for months. Each of the 21 characters has been carefully crafted to offer a unique but balanced style of play, and with a dozen objective based maps there is an infinite number of team builds and strategies to play with.
Many negative reviews I've seen complain that there is no story or that the gameplay is simple and repetitive, but this is simply not true. Overwatch is chalked full of story, but nearly all of it is lore. Nearly 80 hours in I'm still catching new voice lines and interactions that expand upon the characters and their relationships to one another. These kinds of small nuances are also part of what keeps the gameplay so fresh. Being killed when the enemy deflects your sniper round or is sometimes even more fun than making the shot because you know you just witnessed either a miracle or a monster. Even the smallest details can make a difference; not only can D.Va combine her self-destruct and rocket booster abilities to make a devastating missile she is also able to activate it during the fraction of a second it takes her to eject after reaching 0 health, which can create some unexpected openings.
At it's heart Overwatch feels more like Smash Brothers than anything else. Tons of unique and fun characters with simple and addictive gameplay governed by an incredibly intricate and well thought out engine. Even if squad based shooters isn't your thing give it a chance, you might just fall in love.

Firstly, this game isn't good because of its flashy visuals or whatever people care about these days. Over also isn't a Team Fortress 2 clone as some would lead you to believe. Overwatch is something, different yet familiar. It combines the fast-paced style of a multiplayer FPS with a very team and character based aspect. There is a strong emphasis in the game of making the ultimate team to counter the enemy. Making a whole team of the most powerful character won't win you the game, making a balanced team the counters the opposition well will win. The other thing about this game is the diverse roster of characters to choose from. The lovable ape Winston and the tough woman Zarya are both classified as tanks but they couldn't play more different. With 21 characters in the game, each with their own backstory and special abilities, there is more than enough choice to build your squad.
One more point. This game is NOT a mindless copy of Battleborn OR TF2. Both play very differently to Overwatch and honestly, Overwatch is a lot better then those games.
Don't be afraid of the micro transactions in this game. There are absolutely no items in the game whatsoever that can give you a feasible in game benefit, no matter how much money to pump into this thing. The micro transactions are for loot boxes, containing cosmetic items. You get one loot box per level up, so buying these isn't the only way to get that Spirit of: 76 skin you want. The reason these micro transactions exist is because, to quote TotalBiscuit, so that people with more money then time don't get locked out of any content. If you don't have time to grind you can still get the normal level-up loot. In a game such as Call of Duty people that play more have more guns, and an advantage over people like me that don't play much. Overwatch's micro transactions are there so people aren't locked out of any content, even if it doesn't help in the game.
Verdict: Don't listen to the negative reviews, they don't know what they're talking about. This game is a fun experience with solid gameplay, stunning visuals and a great play style with diverse characters and team-building.

Okay, so I have never reviewed a game on metacritic, but I have some bones to pick with a few of the negative reviews. While some qualms are understandable, such as a need for competitive mode or the fact that leveling only earns you skins, most of them are wrongly applied to this game, giving it an unfair score. As a Splatoon fan and a newcomer to online arenas, here are my thoughts.Okay, so I have never reviewed a game on metacritic, but I have some bones to pick with a few of the negative reviews. While some qualms are understandable, such as a need for competitive mode or the fact that leveling only earns you skins, most of them are wrongly applied to this game, giving it an unfair score. As a Splatoon fan and a newcomer to online arenas, here are my thoughts.

    1. The game is incomplete but full-priced. So was Spatoon upon release, which was also full-priced, but the dlc is all free. In months, it will have so much more. I think that it's reasonable to release Overwatch with just a few free-form multiplayer modes. Get the feel for the game now, why go into competitive when you just started playing anyway? Not everyone played beta. It's only been out for a month or so, it's to be expected that a game is lacking in content when we live in an age where patches and updates are a click away. And free.

    2. There is no campaign.... But not every game needs a campaign. While Splatoon's campaign served essentially as training, being boring and easy, I don't think that Overwatch needs one, nor would a campaign even seem useful in any way. There are training and pve modes that supersede what the campaign would be for, so what's the deal? This game is meant for online play, just like Splatoon. It could use more modes, but remember, it JUST came out. Games these days are never released complete. They improve over time and the developers do it on purpose to not only acquaint people with the vanilla first, but to keep things fresh while they add to it. If, let's say, Lucio wasn't vanilla and was a dlc character, you'd better believe that I would be more excited about him. That's the point of what they're doing. Some may argue that it's a cop-out, withholding what should've been in the main game to begin with, but if it's free, that's literally just whining.

    3. Somebody thinks the game is imbalanced? This one I don't understand. You can change characters essentially at will, specifically to counter other characters. Anybody who says that this game is imbalanced is just a rage quitter and hasn't learned which characters counter which. I'm a girl who plays Nintendo games normally like Animal Crossing, so if I can be good at Overwatch, anyone can be. In fact, I think that the balancing is one of this game's greatest highlights.

So, if you haven't guessed, Splatoon is my favorite game. If Splatoon is a 10/10, Overwatch would be an 8/10. My only qualms would be the way the overtime system works (make it like Splatoon, duh) and that mean-spirited, insanely harsh and unreasonable 75% exp penalty they give you if you so much as see what medals you've earned. They don't give you enough time to leave the match without claiming you 'disconnected', and the idle time is also extremely harsh. Once these things are fixed, this game will be a 10/10. I give Overwatch a 9/10 because it's one of the few games on the market that I find fun (at all, that deserves credit), it's very imaginative and fresh, and although it's no Splatoon or Ocarina of Time, I think that its deserving of its hype, not just a fanboy circle-jerk. Take that from a person who doesn't like WOW.

Overwatch is a game that should be polarizing in the gaming community; it takes away the customization that so many FPS players live off of and substitutes 16 uniquely different but VERY well put together characters in the vain of Team Fortress (with serious differences from TF). For someone looking to frantically customize their weapons, play against rogue players who don't care about teamwork, and maintain that "manly aesthetic" that comes with most FPS, you'll be out of luck. Instead of sticking to the mold, Blizzard put together what is probably the best team-based FPS of all time. With a good balanced team, you can have some of the most fun experiences that you can get from gaming.

Seems like the people hating on the game are pretty bad at the whole concept of team play, and that's great because Call of Duty needs more 10 year olds!
