A resounding success as both an example of the genre and a homage to everything that makes it fun.

It's always a great feeling to go into a game with no expectations and then come away highly impressed, and that's exactly what happened with Onechanbara Z2: Chaos. It's an irreverent, enjoyably kinetic game, and the takeway is that quartets of highly skilled warrior women murdering the absolute hell out of zombies in bloodthirsty fashion is, above all else, completely and totally rad.

If you’re not against cheerfully dumb sexploitation movies that inspired Z2: Chaos, you’re gonna have loads of fun slashing the undead. [11/2015, p.48]

This isn't the kind of game you revisit multiple times, but rather the kind of game you tell your friends about with the utmost enthusiasm on account of just how silly and pleasant the whole thing is.

Messy, dirty, and downright smutty, Onechanbara: Z2: Chaos is the very epitome of a guilty pleasure.

The lack of content is an issue and some of the visuals and level design is downright poor, but this throwback to mid-tier Japanese video game development provides one of the year’s most pleasant surprises and a satisfying alternative to the collection of known quantities coming our way in the months to come.

Some people might find it hard to understand that this is actually a good game, as long as you know what you're buying. If you do, Onechanbara Z2 won't disappoint you.

Zombies, katanas and sexy fighters. Onechanbara Z2 Chaos is the best episode of the series... but it´s a repetitive hack´n slash with poor graphics. Only the Onechanbara fans will enjoy it.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is a relatively stock standard Japanese fighting game with lots of virtual flesh.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is an enjoyable, but weird and deeply flawed game. Overall it feels a lot like a budget game, the concept of which unfortunately had more potential than its eventual execution.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos never really forgets where it came from. As a result, it's mired in some pretty simplisitic gameplay and storytelling. If you're a fan of the series, then it's worth checking out. Otherwise, you're better served by games like Devil May Cry.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos promises two things: fan service and zombie killing. It delivers on that but not much else. XSEED's lively translation and the sheer fun of zombie killing make it an enjoyable enough romp, but low production values and repetitive gameplay really drag it down.

Confusing story-line leaves you muddled, though there's plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and entertaining combat to enjoy amidst the head-noddingly cool soundtrack.

Onechanbara Z2 Chaos owes almost everything on her sexy fighters. While touching a pass-fetched sufficiently, is a title too immature to be recommended without reservation.

Low price, low pretension. Brainless history, but not a bad hack and slash. Maybe silly, need to play in hard level to take advantage of his combat and possibilities.

I can clearly say I had fun with Onechanbara Z2: Chaos, because in the end, it just manages to bring shameless adult fun with a slap of fan service, but even though I liked my short time with the game, it clearly needs work on its issues to bring a Onechanbara game that is more than just a mediocre game with deep, stylish combat to butter up the overall package.

It is fun but it is not always easy on the eyes and in terms of gameplay as thin as the next supermodel.

A brainless slasher partially saved by a handful of good ideas and cathartic combat.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos doesn't transcend in the genre. After several titles, the franchise remains faithful to its indie roots. 100% focused on girls killing zombies in sexy outfits with a solid soundtrack, it happens to be grey and monotonous in other aspects like gameplay and level design.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos has tons of fan-service, but it's kinda fun. Despite being messy and hard to grasp, the combat system is deep and dynamic, and grants tons of fun and experimentation. The graphics and the technical side of the game are quite rough though.

With the amount of detail put into the game, dynamic cast of characters, superb voice acting, and addicting soundtrack that’s sure to put anyone in a zombie slaying mood, Onechanbara Z2: Chaos can be enjoyable beyond the very two things it feeds off of.

Chaos brings the most complete experience in the series with its first US release in six years, but is still held back by the repetitive gameplay and dull environments that prevent it from being a fully satisfying experience.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is certainly unique. There isn’t much like it, both in terms of content and…well other assets.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is a low budget game without any ambition of being great, and everything here is just an excuse to show girls using bikinis and katanas to kill monsters. The combat system is really fun if you have patience to unlock the hardest modes, but overall, is not very good.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is the most comprehensive and polished episode of the entire (and rather puckish) franchise. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean that it's something we can recommend, unless you find it on sale.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is an easy, technically poor action game that that relies entirely on fan service.

Although it boasts a fun and fluid combat system, Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is far too short on content and surprisingly bloated with superfluous ideas.

It's not a totally brain dead release, but it's hard to recommend when it's launching on a console that already boasts several better action games.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos isn’t a terrible game, it just manages to be mediocre in almost every aspect.

If you love the saga, you know what to expect from this chapter. Despite the usual contents, it seems Onechambara is stuck in the past, and it desperately needs some evolution in the next future.

It hits some of its marks—a generous frame-rate and a firm commitment to kitsch melodrama among them—but it's closer to the edges boredom and mediocrity. For a game meant to elicit a range of responses, all that it leaves the player is trite indifference.

This game really has nothing to offer. Well, except for virtual curves, but that's a bit ridiculous in this day and age. It's mediocre, both technically and from a gameplay standpoint, and it's only reason to exist resides in the skimpy outfits of the female protagonists. Kind of a sad excuse for an action game.

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is dull, repetitive, with a boring and thousand times seen story, stupid enemies and with a rich combat system completely wasted.

Tamsoft may have upped the ante on a number of fronts, yet it’s the core gameplay where this sequel suffers most. It’s all well and good creating an offbeat world in which to put players, but Onechanbara is missing the depth to keep them there.

Onechanbara Z2 Chaos is made for a special group of gamers. It wants to persuade you with big bouncing boobs and a fighting system, but it only delivers on the latter. An atrocity.

If ever a game was made to put (mostly) buxom girls in bikinis and have them fight, this is the culmination of that.

Don’t let these voluptuous young women seduce you: Onechanbara Z2: Chaos is flawed beyond measure with its only redeeming quality being competent combat mechanics.

It should be impossible to make a mix of zombies and scantily-clad samurai bimbos this boring but that’s the one and only accomplishment of this brain-dead button-masher.

This game was meant to be quirky and not taken to seriously. It's all about having fun playing a game with gorgeous babes, zombies, and a corny yet interesting story. Comparing this to a US made triple A title is just one of the shortfalls "professional" critics have. They will rate these half arsed indie games with high 90's but god forbid a Japanese import meant to be light hearted and fun to play get anything above a 50 or 60. These guys are a joke. Also the people giving this game low scores don't even bother to leave a comment. The game is actually around a 7 or 8 for me but I give it a 10 to offset some of the unjust hate toward this unique and fun to play game. Full Review »

Ive heard about this series before, how it was originally a part a a couple of budget games for the PlayStation 2 i think and this gameIve heard about this series before, how it was originally a part a a couple of budget games for the PlayStation 2 i think and this game onechanbara stuck out and started to become a stand alone series. From what ive heard they didn't start out too good until onechanbara nonono and then finally the best one by the fans is onechanbara z2 chaos, so lets see what we have got from japan shall we?

Story: (NO SPOILERS AHEAD) starting in we play as the two main characters fighting other two main characters for some reason, i think the ending of the previous game had a cliffhanger ending or something of the sort. the story throughout the game isnt the best around but it does have interesting moments from time to time, the main story isn't that long but it is very replayable to unlock different items and such for the 4 characters. All in all the story is full of alot of plot alot of plot PLOOOOOOOT just look at all that plot.

Gameplay: This is where the game truly shines. Each character has a different fighting style and special ability's, but in the heat of combat it is pure chaos fun, zombies getting hacked and slashed left and right limbs flying all over the place and the blood oh boys and girls let me tell you about the blood, you see there isnt just red blood you can set it to a couple of different colors i set it to black just to think the zombies are unholy demons. For boss battles very exciting the design are very interesting and the fighting can get mixed up but in a good way. gameplay is what you will be coming back too it was for me.

Performance/Bugs/Graphics Now what ive seen with post from the devs is that the game is at 1080p 60 fps, which is very true for the most part, it is 60 fps about 98 percent of the time very little dips, but the 1080p im gonna have to take their word on that, the lay out of most levels are flat not that detailed and some of the objects in the games look cartoony and out of place, most of the detail went in the character models as you will see if you buy the game. For bugs not that many really seems pretty solid some clipping happens but nothing game breaking.

Personal thoughts/Verdict: Ive enjoyed this game alot so far and plan to sink in alot more hours in it. Now this game is not the prettiest it is Not a triple A game it was made with a smaller budget, so if you are new to the series and plan to pick this up don't have huge expectations , hype is killing alot of games and its best not too hype a game too hard, For the budget that they had whatever it may be they made a truly just plain fun game, I love the game so far and its technically a ps4 exclusive so add that to the library of exclusives. My verdict is 8 out of 10 I like the game alot and i look forward to future games that xseed makes. I hope this review was helpful for you.

PS: DO NOT tell Anita Sarkeesian about this game she wont shut up for a month if she knew about it.

Awful camera, repetitive and lazy level design, boring skill upgrade system, so many bugs and glitches, confusing story and stupid AI.

This game is a cash grabbing, with lazy designed DLC, selling the same costumes & hairstyles already available in the game WITH DIFFERENT COLORS!

    What a waste of time!
