From what ive heard they didn't start out too good until onechanbara nonono and then finally the best one by the fans is onechanbara z2 chaos, so lets see what we have got from japan shall we?

Story: (NO SPOILERS AHEAD) starting in we play as the two main characters fighting other two main characters for some reason, i think the ending of the previous game had a cliffhanger ending or something of the sort. the story throughout the game isnt the best around but it does have interesting moments from time to time, the main story isn't that long but it is very replayable to unlock different items and such for the 4 characters. All in all the story is full of alot of plot alot of plot PLOOOOOOOT just look at all that plot.

Gameplay: This is where the game truly shines. Each character has a different fighting style and special ability's, but in the heat of combat it is pure chaos fun, zombies getting hacked and slashed left and right limbs flying all over the place and the blood oh boys and girls let me tell you about the blood, you see there isnt just red blood you can set it to a couple of different colors i set it to black just to think the zombies are unholy demons. For boss battles very exciting the design are very interesting and the fighting can get mixed up but in a good way. gameplay is what you will be coming back too it was for me.

Performance/Bugs/Graphics Now what ive seen with post from the devs is that the game is at 1080p 60 fps, which is very true for the most part, it is 60 fps about 98 percent of the time very little dips, but the 1080p im gonna have to take their word on that, the lay out of most levels are flat not that detailed and some of the objects in the games look cartoony and out of place, most of the detail went in the character models as you will see if you buy the game. For bugs not that many really seems pretty solid some clipping happens but nothing game breaking.

Personal thoughts/Verdict: Ive enjoyed this game alot so far and plan to sink in alot more hours in it. Now this game is not the prettiest it is Not a triple A game it was made with a smaller budget, so if you are new to the series and plan to pick this up don't have huge expectations , hype is killing alot of games and its best not too hype a game too hard, For the budget that they had whatever it may be they made a truly just plain fun game, I love the game so far and its technically a ps4 exclusive so add that to the library of exclusives. My verdict is 8 out of 10 I like the game alot and i look forward to future games that xseed makes. I hope this review was helpful for you.

PS: DO NOT tell Anita Sarkeesian about this game she wont shut up for a month if she knew about it.

Yes, you will take over four characters in this game. All have unique little quirks that set the apart from one another: Look, weapons, moves, etc. Speaking of moves, the gameplay actually feels fun, slicing and dicing zombies proves to be a great blood-soaked endeavour. My only real gripes with the game would be the area you visit in-game look somewhat at times, and the fact there are still horrid those damned invisible walls. Sadly there is no multiplayer as well, something I feel as though the game initially had in mind. But all in all, if you're wanting something fun and bloody to pass the time, pick this game up. Its the best installment in the Onechanbara series, and an overall excellent little game. Expand

If you know what you're getting into and it matches with your personal tastes, you'll find a lot to love in Onechanbara Z2 Chaos. Its plot, characters, and script are what you'd get from Japanese grindhouse / shock horror like The Machine Girl, complete with all the gore, sexuality, and campiness that entails. The biggest real complaint is that environments are a bit bland, but at least the levels span the modern globe and allow you to play in whatever order you see fit. Rest assured that the game isn't alpha-quality clunkiness like its XBox360 predecessor (nobody played the Wii one anyway), and everything from character models to core gameplay mechanics have been drastically improved to make this the best Onechanbara game to date. Tamsoft and publishers D3 and XSEED seem well aware of this, as the game comes with both in-game and physical extras that get you caught up on the story of earlier bad releases. New retail copies pack in an art book / field guide and the OST, along with some fittingly ridiculous costume DLC, and at $49.99, it's still somewhat bargain-priced for a new PS4 release. As for the game's content, you can expect an insane amount of visual customization for all four playable girls, allowing you to change everything from base outfits and hats to accessories you can reposition all over their bodies. Combat mechanics are where Onechanbara really shines and shows the most vital improvements, and even though it should feel repetitive, the variety of playable females, skill enhancements, unique weaponry, and genuinely fun beat-em-up stages give the whole package some staying power. I immediately recalled fond memories of older action favorites like Gungrave and Bujingai, so if you enjoyed either of those, you'll probably understand the flavor I'm trying to describe here. Combat includes some interesting mechanics like weapon refresh that slings the blood off of your worn-down blades, berserk modes and transformations, team cross-attacks, enemy dismemberment, timing-based combo boosts, switchable secondary weapons, sub-weapons, chase/follow dashes, and on-screen quick time prompts that utilize the DS4's touch pad (or Vita's touchscreen if using Remote Play). That's right, if you're a Vita player, you'll already know that most triple-A titles neglect Remote Play, but Onechanbara works like a dang dream. It's easily the most fine-tuned Remote Play experience outside of Tomb Raider, and it elevates the game further for anyone needing to use that feature. While the control scheme isn't drastically altered for Remote Play, even the controls that seem like they'd be awkward on paper make sense once you've got the DS4/Vita in your hands, and I was shocked the first time a quick time command worked flawlessly on my Vita's touchscreen. I didn't expect it because the game is so good via Remote Play that I'd forgotten I wasn't playing an actual Vita title. The moment I entered the touch command, I thought to myself "oh, that's not going to work on... holy crap, it worked!" All these little things you don't expect from a B-tier game add up to make it worth more than the sum of its parts, so if it sounds like Onechanbara fits your personal tastes, you should definitely give it a chance. I'm glad I took the gamble, especially after I hated previous entries' clunky gameplay. This is a perfect guilty pleasure candidate, with more meat on its bones than most mainstream reviews will ever give it credit for having. Expand

Every chapter is basically the same, go forward and kill everything that spawns, defeat a boss or 2 rinse and repeat.
This game features no proper tutorial, just a manual in the first chapter of the controls, the rest is up to you to figure out. There is however a practice mode where you can practice combos if you so choose, but honestly you can get through all difficulties just mashing buttons.
The enemies and bosses aren’t challenging… but they are painfully grindy especially on higher difficulties.
You’re rewarded with orbs for killing enemies that you can spend on new moves, weapons, and rings that you can equip to help make the higher difficulties a little more enjoyable and a little less grindy.
Unfortunately though this game forces you to play through it 3 times to unlock all difficulties and a 4th time for its platinum.
The levels honestly feel embarrassingly generic and are no fun to run through after the first time if you’re lucky enough to even find them fun then…
I started enjoying my time with the game more on my 2nd play through after finally understanding the way things work.
You can choose the order of the girls at the beginning of a chapter and that order determines how fast their meter fills for you to call them in, there is no limit on the amount of times or the amount of back up you can call in.
As you can imagine the battles are most satisfying with all 4 characters hopping in to slash through enemies.
As you kill enemies you fill other meters that can be spent on mid battle special attacks to take stronger enemies down fast or a bar that allows you to go into basically a super saiyan mode and slice through everything in your way.
While this game is really just gore and boobs,
I’m not going to be a white knight here and trash this game because it’s pervy or degrading,
I love games like lollipop chainsaw that actually do this right
I will say though that for what it’s going for, it isn’t pervy or degrading enough
I never thought I would say that in a review, but that’s how it is…
No envelops were pushed… there was no humor to find here if you’re over the age of 8
    Just very uncomfortable boob jokes
I really have to throw this immaturity into the spotlight because all this game really has going for it is edginess and sex and there’s none of that here.

This game has become one of my new guilty pleasures. I've always enjoyed these cheesy types of games since they remind me of old school b-movies. This kinda stuff makes me want the prequel to be released overseas. Chopping up the zombie hordes is quite fun, as are the boss fights. Overall, its a fun little game to play a party or with friends.

As a summary, Kagura and Saaya will be teaming up to their rivals Aya and Saki to fight a new threat to the world. As like previous onechanbara series games. Its plot and story are bad. In fact you cant really say there is a story but a battle between good and evil. It is short and uninteresting. Though the characters in the game are somewhat interesting considering they have different personalities and their few interactions in game are both funny, sexy and sometimes ridiculous. Still though, it does not over all the flaws and problems it has concerning the lack of story. A poor score of 1/10

Gameplay - This is the part where the game really steps up. The action is awesome smooth and really a good game for those players who like fast paced actions games. The thing i really liked in here is the cross combination where you can use more that 2 or all of the characters at the same time and make utter chaos against your many enemies. Combos are great, many and different from each of the characters since each has two kinds of main weapons and also a sub weapon, add that they have stronger forms called Dare Drive and Extacy. However, dissapointing factors are also included, The whole campaign is so short and lacks replayability and is also very easy as a whole even if you are playing in the hardest difficulties since enemies doesnt really pose a threath even those bosses or those large in size. The mission mode is a plus for you to have things to do even after beating the campaign but alas, it is also very easy that i never really experienced a challenging mission except for 1 or 2. Overall, a score of 6/10 will do.

Graphics - There two aspects on this part, both good and bad. As for the good, the character design of each and every characters are pretty, sexy and gorgeous, people keeps criticizing the use of sex appeal of this game of which as a guy, is a plus for me. I really am impressed also that you can customize the main characters, and didnt regret making them look much more sexier than their original costumes. As for the bad though, is the level and environment design. It is so last last gen and i mean on the PS2 era of graphics level. Too much lazy effort by the developers to actually put recycled level and enemy design used in its previous games. SO DAMN DISAPPOINTING. Therefore, A poor score of 4/10 will do for these aspect.

Music and Sound - As to the music, It really is mixed and confusing, it is a mixture of pop, rock and techno pop. It was ok for me. But overall was dissapointed since a recycled songs from the last game is in the soundtrack and actually used in game to make you thinks it has a lot. As to the sound and voice acting, the japanese voice acting despite Kagura's awkward broken english are actually good and i really prefer it over the english version. It has more emotion and gives the characters personality base on the tone and the way they all speak. A score of 5/10

    Overall Score = 4.00

These game is generally compared to Bayonetta and is also considered its budget version. Personally, I agree...for me it has beaten Bayonetta in its fast paced action mechanic but was far inferior as to the other aspects of the game. With regards to the use of sex appeal to promote the game, IMO in a world where games which has gore, the use of drugs, slavery, racism, etc. I would prefer this kinds of games rather than those i previously mentioned. But overall, the game really didnt give me that worth for my money since despite that it satisfies my manhood and action perks. I was dissapointed in everything. Hopefully the developers could do better in their next game if it would even come out to the west. Like Kagura said, "Okay, Bring it on"

I was somewhat familiar with this series from hearing about it online, so when I saw that it was localized and released in the U.S, I was bewildered. Somehow, the "Banana Split edition" was in stock locally, so I decided to roll the dice without reading a single review and pick it up. I like weird Japanese games, it seemed ridiculous enough to be entertaining, and the "special edition" - which included an art book and soundtrack - was technically a budget title at $50.

And oh boy, does it scream budget title! The game is basically a Devil May Cry knockoff with straightforward controls, a terrible camera, and a totally unnecessary English dub. The menus are barebones with questionable font choices, inane music blares in the background at all times, the static "tutorials" are nearly incomprehensible, the environments are generic and the enemies are repetitive...it's IN YOUR FACE with its low budget. On the bright side, the game always runs at 60fps, a surprisingly deep (relatively speaking) skill and weapon system keeps things interesting, and it's pretty fun to play once you get the hang of a few of the combat tricks. And then, of course, you have the over-the-top T&A aggressively flaunted wherever possible, which is really the only thing (graphics aside) that separates this title from a typical PS2 action/adventure game.

Really, this would be great to play with a few friends, drinking beers and passing the controller around, joking about how silly Japanese games are (or maybe how far game design has come in the past decade). Somehow, Onechanbara ZII Chaos manages to be charming in its mediocrity, which is a rare thing these days. It commits to its stupid premise with gusto, and emerges as a reasonably enjoyable title. Obviously, it's not for everybody, but if you're the type of person who enjoyed Lollipop Chainsaw, or just have a thing for bizarre Japanese exports, you could spend your money in worse places.

And if there are people out there who really get off to this, god help us all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Overall, is a great experience, with superb character models, good voice acting, several customization items and weapons and much fun. The only downside is the scenarios graphic, that aren't much detailed, but they aren't too bad. Expand

It does what it does well enough, but if you are going into this game know what you are getting : Girls, Bikinis, and Zombies. The game does a good job making you feel strong and brutal and lets you decimate hordes of monsters to a surprisingly awesome soundtrack (some have a persona-esque feel which is great). Pros: Good models for the characters, Satisfying combat, Music was well done, overall good time killer
Cons: No real story / you need to know previous game lore to understand some things, environments old and simple, you can get stun-locked pretty easy if you miss a dodge or strike, AI is pretty dumb

Amazing hack and slash gamed that run at a smooth 60 fps, with a focus on dozens of moves to master and unlocking and leveling, similar to a mussou game. While the focus is on fun, there is a nice japanese style story of samuri revenge.

Abviously if you a puriton karen or misslead while knight, stay away form Onechanbarra, for the sake of internet and those around you.

The game allows you to essentially switch between 4 characters on the fly. Each girl plays a little bit differently and is outfitted with a distinct set of weapons and moves (the basic moves usually carry over). In addition, they each have 3 unique special attacks that can be launched as you build up a meter by killing enemies. The special attack might be defensive (a shield), ranged (launching missiles) or duplicate your character for double damage! Additionally, the attacks of different characters can be chained into each other by switching characters at the right moment. These elements along with the ability to buy new weapons, equip rings with different effects as well as have up to 4 characters on-screen at the same time, makes for a pretty excellent combat system that is fast and frenetic with quite a bit of depth. Controls are smooth and precies.

In terms of graphics the character models, enemies and effects look great while everything else is pretty meh. Especially the environments are pretty empty and bland, which is common for japanese action games. Level design is entirely linear, but to the designers' credit the individual levels are pretty short and thus don't overstay their welcome. The campaign is of an acceptable length for a game like this. In addition to the campaign the game has a large number of missions with different objectives of varying difficulty.

Performance wise I experienced no bugs and the game runs pretty flawlessly at 60 fps with only few minor drops during intense battles.

Now for some grievances: The game is just too easy. There are 4 difficulty modes, but the game actually gets progressively easier as you move up through the difficulties because of certain overpowered items that you obtain.
It's like the game doesn't know if it wants to be a sophisticated spectacle fighter or a button-masher. Learning the combat system isn't really incentivized or necessary to advance in the game, which is a shame. So there's some disconnect in the design there.

Bottom line: The game has great combat and is a ton of fun to play. The designers basically succeeded in all the important ways that matter for an action game, except for the game being a bit too easy.

Story/Campaign - Storyline-wise for the game..it is awful and sooooo short. Its story continues from the ending of onechanbara z Kagura and introduces a new enemy of which the 4 lovely and sexy ladies need to team up despite their rivalries to defeat. Really, that is just the storyline, no climax, no interesting parts, Just that. Its story continues from the ending of onechanbara z Kagura and introduces a new enemy of which the 4 lovely and sexy ladies need to team up despite their rivalries to defeat. Really, that is just the storyline, no climax, no interesting parts, Just that. Its cutscenes usually revolves on the light and playful side and interactions between the heroines and until the end, nothing really happened but you defeated the final boss and saved the world from another zombie apocalypse. Although on the positive note, atleast its campaign feels more alive than the previous game because of the more number of heroines, some of their interactions are sometimes fun, weird but interesting. The extra mission mode can use up a part of your experience but nothing really was a challenged also for me. A score of 2/10 for this.

Gameplay - Now this is where the game really stands out. In an era where hack and slash and beat-em up games are dying, this game really showed that this gameplay can still perform smoothly and can be still be better in this age. Its fast paced gameplay action is smooth, unique, cool and the combinations and attacks of each heroines are both unique and distinct from each other and you won't get tired of it i assure you especially the cross combinations where all 4 of the heroines will be on the screen hitting everyone. My main problem though is that the AI are all dumb and weak, it includes the bosses too except to notable bosses, nothing really was challenging nor gave me a hard time the whole campaign even in the hardest difficulty. A score of 7/10 will suffice for this.

Graphics - The character design of each characters in the game are great. They all look pretty, juicy and damn all so sexy. Its pretty obvious what type of fan base the developers wants to get from the game. I dont mind though, Im a guy, We all like sexy boobs and ass since they are treasures worth looking. However, the biggest problem for in this is the environment, they all look like PS2 graphics at its max. It is bad even in the ps3/xbox360 gen. The laziness of the devs really showed in this part. This deserves a 3/10 score.

Sound - The music of this game are all catchy and good. However, Its just a mix of random music and nothing really fits the whole story or campaign, even the theme of the characters isnt fitting for their themes.I dont mind though since like i said, Its catchy and good for the ears due to its playful tones. A score of 5/10 for these.

    Total Average = 4.3

Onechanbara Z2: Chaos uses sexuality as its main strength to maintain its fanbase and as a guy, it really works. Its not a real problem for me but i do hope he devs atleast try to do better to improve its weakness, the game has no plot and bad bad bad graphics and due to this the game tends to be unremarkable despite its good gameplay of which can still be improved. The devs should show they are not just nerds who likes asses and boobs but that they can put on a show to showcase their game in a better and more interesting manner. A bad game for me overall due to its big flaws, it shows that using sexuality in a game alone wont be enough to make it good.

This gory hack & slash game starred by pretty vampires with impossible bodies wearing bikinis and cowboy hats it's an enjoyable echo of a bygone era.
The good old times of AA with non marketable titles, PS2 textures and PS3 character models that look like plastic dolls and where the life bar of the bosses has only the "BOSS" word on top.
Good old times without neo puritan woke censorship

Good old times without neo puritan woke censorship in which your chars could wear just a tiny microkini and dual katanas or a chainsaw.
Although the gameplay is not as exquisite as a good Platinum¨s game, it's pretty solid and it throws literally hundreds of zombies at you, at constant 60fps, so you can mow them down with cool combos and fill the screen with blood and limbs.
Every girl has a different moveset with evolutions and weapons, rings and moves to unlock.
My only complaint is that the bosses are a little bit predictable, either slow huge bullet sponges or super fast human size enemies that move much faster than the camera can follow.
A really great game that I played until I got my shiny platinum.

If you’re not against cheerfully dumb sexploitation movies that inspired Z2: Chaos, you’re gonna have loads of fun slashing the undead. [11/2015, p.48]

This game really has nothing to offer. Well, except for virtual curves, but that's a bit ridiculous in this day and age. It's mediocre, both technically and from a gameplay standpoint, and it's only reason to exist resides in the skimpy outfits of the female protagonists. Kind of a sad excuse for an action game.
