All multiplayer games started feeling like complete rip offs for the amount of monetization of literally every element of the game (literally every customization is being monetized by live service and multiplayer gaming companies), so I decided to go back into single player games for a bit, to take a break from all the drama and nonsense. I decided to comeback to No Man’s Sky years after giving up on the game around launch. What a journey this game went through. From being complete garbage at launch, to a great experience now. The sheer amount of content that was added to the game completely free of charge is mindboggling to me. They added great base building mechanics, a compelling story line, managing your own fleet of freighters, customizing and building inside your freighters, derelict freighters to explore, community zones, etc. I can honestly say this game has much creative depth to it as a game like Minecraft. I love the turnaround this game has, and it really is a testament to how a good game and live service is meant to function. Hats off to you Hello Games, you did not succumb to corporate greed and irresponsibility. Expand

A super addictive game that's fun to explore and build. There's a story, but it's pretty subpar to be honest and there isn't a whole lot special about the graphics. I wish there was a bit more diversity in the planets, as there's really only a few different biomes and any two planets of the same biome pretty much look identical. Still, there's lots of fun to be had and I would recommend this game to anyone looking for a space exploration type game. Expand

Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but somehow you had to figure everything out yourself, which is cool in itself, but if you die several times at the beginning of the game because you're poisoned, burned or freeze to death, it's not that great, so I can understand why many stop right at the beginning of the game but if you master most of the beginning the rest of the game is all the better, really stunning planets and a feeling that is indescribable. If you only have minimal interest in NMS and like films like Star Wars or Interstellar, you should really try it out and preferably with a few friends. Expand

New expeditions every 6 months give you new objectives and unique items making you travel through the best places in NMS. Hope physical ps5 release will be a success because this game deserves it.

In No Man's Sky building is a key feature because you can hire scientists, cartographers, overseers and more to help expand your base you can also customise it with a range of decorative furniture and plants. No Man's Sky is all about exploring and with the fact that you can own your own ship makes this feature a lot easier to use you can also upgrade / buy new ships with a range of classes. Multiplayer is very fun as you and your friends could go and infiltrate an enemy's base or build up your empire. Also with a range of different people at space stations including, Cartographers, Weapons managers, scrap dealers and more. The fact that you can go anywhere is very cool as it makes you want to explore which is what makes it a great open world game and also every single planet is unique. You could have an arctic wasteland planet or a boiling Badlands planet. Another cool part of the game is the fact that you can customise your race or clothes. Do you want to be a big and tough Vykeen or a small but smart Gek. Overall No Man's Sky is worth the buy as it also gets regular updates too. Expand

Now, fast forward nearly 6 years and this game is absolutely all THRILLER and ZERO FILLER. Sean Murray and the amazing team at Hello Games have accomplished what feels like, the impossible. Welcome to the Interstellar Sandbox! With 18 *FREE* major content updates, the latest being incredible all by its wee self, this game delivers. And delivers and delivers. In fact, it has changed and improved so much since it's release, that any reviews written before 2019 are totally and completely misrepresenting what this game is today. When I first bought it, I played for roughly 5 hours and after one massively disappointing experience, I put the game away, for what I thought would be forever. However, mid 2021 I started reading that NMS had changed drastically. Without reading further in to it, I decided to give it another look.
That look turned into approximately 500 hours of playtime and platinum trophies on both PS4 and PS5. I couldn't believe how much content had been packed in this game. So much so, that there were times I'd just zone out while playing, trying to comprehend how this game was capable of doing what it was doing, and how it was possible. (Didn't figure much out, but that's okay because I don't work there) Audio - 40/42
Video - 42/42 (Next generation is gorgeous) Controls:
    Ship - 42/42
    Rover - 20/42
    On foot - 38/42 Terraforming - 36/42
    Exploration - 42/42
    Travel and Accommodations- 42/42
Base Building - A million. (Thanks to an orbital construction camera for easier piece placement and a large selection of parts to build with) Questing - Repetitive in a lot of aspects, but it's almost a secondary function of the game after a point. For what this game is and then became and for how much I got out of this game, I'm rating it at %100. Take that with a grain of salt if you like, but if you like space exploration and sandboxing, you're gonna freaking love this game. Cheers!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In 2016, I, like many, pre-ordered and played No Man's Sky at launch and we were all let down by what we had, but in 2022 with all these free updates (I think that should be known since most of the AAA games and these cherished companies don't even do that), this might be the greatest gaming comeback in history. Bare with me but this is only a fraction of what you can do with these updates.
    You can:

Own alien pets, play with your friends online, customize your character, be the leader of your own settlement and make tough decisions, defend that settlement from sentinels and space pirates who want to take your resources, build your own bases anywhere, drive vehicles on land and submarines underwater, go into scary abandoned freighters and fight hostile aliens, own your own freighter and frigates, own multiple ships, guns, and multitools (aka guns and mining tools), discover multiple planet biomes, plant alien like plants that can earn you a lot of units (The main currency of the game), take part in missions, embark on some interesting text story missions, have your own AI squadron to journey with you and fight rebel space pirates, etc.

They have delivered and more with these updates to bring us what they initially promised us at launch and I say it is time to appreciate companies like them for their hard work and how they didn't give up and owned up to their mistakes. It shows that how you act when you make a mistake is way more important than the mistake itself, because people will remember that more.I give this a 9/10 for what No Man's Sky is NOW, not for what it was in 2016 and I think many should try to move on from those times after more than 5 years have gone by. Cheers to you Murray and Hello Games, and God Bless you for your redemption and hard work.

I can say now that the game is finally worth the price of admission. I am currently playing the game on PS5 mainly through PSVR and it’s a surreal experience. Flying into a planet while burning through the atmosphere and then seeing the strange beauty of the planet through vr is spectacular. Then finding a perfect place to build a base overlooking a town that you are running is amazing. While I’m sure developer Hello Games is still tweaking things and perhaps even creating more content for No Man’s Sky, the current state of affairs is a strong one. This galactic opus still offers an infinite amount of content for those who want to lose themselves among the stars, but now also contains a concrete throughline that will satisfy a wider array of players. It can be irritating at times, but it’s also full of stunning moments and the satisfaction of building a virtual life among the stars. Four years after launch, it’s finally a journey worth taking.

While No Man's Sky is engrossing for the first few hours, repetition starts to set in and the proceedings grow dull. The developers stated that they plan to add significant features such as base building which could dramatically change the game for the better. There's a promising foundation present, so it's possible to envision a more substantial game down the line. As it currently stands, though, our excitement to cross the universe faded sooner than we expected.
