I think this would have made a great early acces title at for the price of 20 euro's. While i'm used to companies exaggerating and showing trailers that make games look better than they actually are, in the case of No Man's Sky it's a lot worse. I suggest watching the angry Joe review where he sums up everything that's been stated by Sean Murray and what is actually in the game. at first iI think this would have made a great early acces title at for the price of 20 euro's. There's some fun and cool moment to be had the first ten hours of the game, but it lacks in a lot of ways. It's very shallow, the universe is empty, the flying is bad, the combat is bad. If you're lucky to land on a beautiful interesting planet, there's some relaxing moments to enjoy the vista's and take screenshots. But that's pretty much the only positives about this game. I was hoping the game would get some nice features the coming year(s), but i think i kinda gave up on it and accepted i wasted 60 euro's. Expand

No Man's Sky is an INCREDIBLE game and a true achievement in gaming. It's a hallmark, it's history, it's gigantic, ambitious, glorious, miraculous in its scope. It's just NOT the game we were promised. And it pains me to admit that.

My initial reaction was... WOW, this game is incredible. But after hours and hours playing, it was clear that this game is ocean wide and puddle deep. There is just not much to do. No quest, no sidequests, not much of a lore. Just endlessly wandering around, gathering materials, trying to upgrade stuff while you juggle your inventory slots. It gets so, so incredibly boring it's a shame. Basically this is a game about mining materials, managing inventory and walking/flying around from planet to planet until you reach the ultimate goal: "the center of the galaxy".

The game just has no purpose, no point and it saddens me to say that it got old really fast. It's a shame. If they had thrown in a decent story and some sidequests to keep us moving forward, this could've been one of the greatest games ever made. As of now, it's a space-mining simulator.

A thoroughly mediocre game with lackluster objectives. No Man's Sky is the epitome of shallow, with all the beauty and lack of content that you'd expect from a AAA game. Too bad this isn't a AAA game considering they're asking $60 for this... I would not recommend to anyone.

NMS needs to be patched ASAP; Crashing every time I warp, creatures half trapped on the ground, need bigger stacking on every slot on inventory, better spaceship handling, better space fights, and the most important of all KEEP MY SAVED FILES ALIVE!!! i have restarted this damn game twice because my save file its "corrupted".

Remnants of the extinct civilizations? Nope
    Maybe basic physics? Nope.

From the hype I really didn't expect this to be a survival slog, exploration is very much secondary to managing a tiny inventory.

The gathering element is particularly frustrating when you get involved in an entertaining dog fight and have to run away because you used up all your ammunition and need to go wander around looking for isotopes elements. Yeah, that sounds kinda simmy and so you can say it makes sense but it replaces fun with chores too much of the time, maybe more inventory slots will alleviate it but I get the feeling the resources are meant to hamstring you and won't be surprised if bigger ships with bigger inventory space will just need more of the resources to operate so your not better off.

Meeting aliens and learning a language is 'neat' and is a form of resource gathering that I do find enjoyable.

In the end this isn't really a game about exploring but about gathering resources and in that respect I get way more fun out of subnautica but if titles like 'Don't Starve' rock your boat then maybe you will probably get more than I did from this.

Those amazingly diverse planets we were promised, after a few hours in, all feel quite samey.
Had this game been released at half the price with half the hype I'd say it was a decent little experiment.

I am really disappointed with this game. I understood perfectly well what it is (or what rather it was advertised as) before picking it up for full price.

    What I was expecting:
    1. The game that is concentrated on exploration of amazing and exotic alien planets and star systems.
    2. Cataloguing various strange species of animals and plants. Some I would not have thought about if I haven't seen them before
    3. I was expecting unique planets, species and plants. I was expecting incredible generation engine for everything I have mentioned.
    4. Cool flying mechanic as I have always dreamed of my own spaceship

    What did I get:

    1. NMS is a really buggy game (first crash after 40 minutes of gameplay). I have played the game for about 15-20 hours on versions 1.03 and 1.04. I have encountered the total of about 7-10 crashes.

Scanning flying creatures is extremely difficult (you have to point crosshair exactly on little red dot below flying creature and it doesn't always register). You can waste up to 5-10 minutes scanning flying animal if you're unlucky.

    2. Animals and especially plants are VERY REPETITIVE. This is the worst thing you can say about a game which is sold on the premise of infinite procedurally generated universe with each planet unique. Some plants can be found on every planet. Some plants differ very, very slightly from planet to planet.

Animals are generated by attaching body parts of different animals together. For example - I have found eagle with bunny's head. These body parts are varied by size/colour/length. There are people on internet who have found exact same animals as me. I have found the same animals on several planets (or almost exactly the same animals).

This kills this game. I don't expect to be amazed by yet another planet. I see everywhere almost the same vegetation and same animals. I was expecting body parts not to be predetermined by human developers but rather be generated by math functions.

    3. Gameplay mechanics are not only boring, but also tiresome. Inventory size is the only driver in this game. Inventory management is tiresome. If construction if item A requires 4 pieces of item B, you cannot create instantly item A, but have to first create 4 pieces of item B (which never stacks).

Consider this. You start with about 10 free inventory slots. You collect some precious stuff and are left with 2 inventory slots. You find better ship which is crashed. To fix it you need to craft 4 pieces of item B and therefore 5 free inventory slots. Well, you have to throw out everything you've collected. You want to tag this place and come back later after you sell stuff? No, there's no place tagging in this game.

Surviving in this game is what takes up most of your time but it's boring and actually takes away your attention from what is important. Life support tells you that it's low on power every 25% (even at 75%, which is just stupid). You also have to recharge your mining laser and ship. It takes about half your playtime. Mining is boring. Point at rocks, pull the trigger and stop thinking.

What should be cool is finding animals. You get the biggest money rewards for cataloguing all animals on the planet and game lets you know how many more are left. And that's about it - if there's one left and you spent 3 hours on planet, there's absolutely no mechanic to help you. You're tired of this place and would like to travel to other planet but on the other hand you're one species away from big reward. It is not pleasant.

    4. Alien interactions are limited to small puzzles and knowing as many of their language's words as possible. For example, alien wants something from you and you can pick from 3 options: give him A, B or C. If you pick right, they teach you some new tech. If you pick wrong it reduces your reputation with these species. Reputation is not worth much. With high enough rep, aliens can heal you, fix your ship etc.

Most interactions with alien ruins and various stations/buildings are limited. There are 2-3 mini puzzles that are recurring. It's actually ridiculous:
    a. You see 3-4 numbers and have to guess fourth. Numbers are ALWAYS moved to the left (1234, 2341, 3412, ????) and you have to guess fourth.
    b. You see 3-4 numbers. Every next number is multiplication of previous and in each step multiplier is increased by 1 (12, 24, 72, ???)
    c. You see 3-4 numbers. Every next number is the previous one with some value subtracted. The amount subtracted is increased by 1 in each step (72, 66, 61, ???)
The funny part is - THESE PUZZLES ARE STATIC AND THERE ARE ONLY 3 TYPES. VALUES ARE REPEATED. Even such simple puzzle is not randomized and generated. After a few you memorize correct answer and don't even read them.

    5. I'm running out of character limit. I'll put it shortly - developers lied. A lot of stuff from trailers was cut. I don't even care about multiplayer, but where is that cool big ship wreckage from icy planet?

I feel cheated. YOU MESSED WITH MY CHILDHOOD DREAMS.

No Mans Sky is a great, big, colorful and fantastic canvas for a game that hasn't been painted yet. Unfortunately the reviewers who state this game is nothing more than a tech demo are sadly correct. This is a game where the limited imaginations or poor planning or ineptitude are apparent at every turn. The fact that it is ALMOST a game is disapointing and it is more akin to the recent wave of indie developed walking simulators and resource gathering snoozefests that have plagued the "indie" genre for some time now. As of writing this review there is just not all that much or that interesting do or to have taken part. The premise of No Mans Sky is brilliant and it works for moments so brief and fleeting, in between an ocean of inventory management, repetition and cosmetic palette swaps.

By far the best and most interesting parts of the game are really hidden, non existent or barely a part of No Mans Sky. Upgrades and different multi tools and ships were supposed to be meaningful and unique. Ships boil down to just a random mush of interchangeable ugly parts. Upgrades can all easily be earned without much effort or searching early in game. Landing on a gold mine planet is all too common and really hurts the early game progression system.

Some of the most awe inspiring moments were some of the most dissapointing. I had landed on a planet and realized its sun would create an eclipse in a few minutes. Standing there holding my binoculars and staring into the sky, I watched and waited. Taking screenshots of the first moments of the eclipse were amazing and awe inspiring. A double eclipse seen perhaps for the first time. Where two planets block out one star in the same place at the same time. As I waited and watched the final minutes of sunset and eclipse I watch the darkened crescented planets hover in the twilight sky realizing most everything the developers said about this game was a lie. These planets would always and forever create an eclipse here in this very spot. The planets, stationary and inanimate. These were not living breathing planets or solar systems or galaxies.. They did not truly rotate, or orbit, or have true ecologys or biomes. These stars could never truly be reached. And the house of cards and all of the walls and illusion that was No Mans Sky collapsed. All in one eclipse. For me it was a look into the heart of how a game is created and perhaps perception itself. For all the things that should be learned from this game is that the reality is only real to the unaware perciever of the illusion. And perhaps reality itself just an illusion, like the word "game" in space game.

No Mans Sky truly has a few unreplicable moments and grand moments. These moments unfortunately allow you to see the infinite walls for what they truly are, barriers.

+ Truly unique and almost perfect spacecraft flight.
    + True Open world.
    + Moments of awe

-Very limited crafting and upgrading systems
-Almost nothing to do but sightsee.
-No real cutscenes other than the endgame cutscene or real story mode.
-No variety in planet types (No ringed planets, no biomes, no gas planets, no planetary or cosmic phenomena other than black holes which are almost useless most of the time.)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel like this game has lied to me in all those trailers and info that they gave me. They said you can travel to 18 billion planets or something but what they didn't tell us is that its 18 billion copies. When i enter a new system i feel like i just went around in a circle and ended up in the same area, every system contains the same old same, just a few planets a space station and some other things. Its just very boring, i don't mind grinding in a game but when i feel like there is no reward or purpose to grind for its just a waste of time. I feel like this is absolutely not worth 60 bucks. I think people with a lot of imagination might find some fun in it but for me its just not at all what i hoped for. The game also does not explain anything in the beginning so you basically don't have any idea what it is u gotta do. After 20 hours you're doing exactly the same as in the first hour and probably at the end of the game u pretty much have been doing the same all the time. The planets don't feel different at all, some planets might be a bit different but the only thing that is different is the colours and some animals. I probably won't be playing this game anymore because it just feels like a waste of time. Overall i think people that expect a huge game with all kinds of different worlds are going to be disappointed. Expand

I've heard people say it's a "make your own fun" sort of game, a la Minecraft before Notch decided to tack on an endgame. However for there to be emergent gameplay one must first have a broad pallet of game mechanics to play with. This is exactly where No mans Sky falls down, there is very little to do and very little variety in how you do it. If you could clip along at mach 3 blasting space dinosaurs, or carve your name into the side of a mountain I can guarantee this game would not be getting bad reviews.

What is there plods along at a snails pace, walking feels like crawling, sprinting feels like walking and even the bad-ass stiletto hulled space-ripper ships amble through the atmosphere as if they were pleasure craft. There are a host of other things that one would thing should never have made it out of beta, ruins are less useful than knowledge stones. One of the atlas path goals requires that you spend hours documenting every living thing on whatever planet you happen to be on, the puzzles are kindergarten grade easy, and every single alien encounter plays out in exactly the same way. The sound design (which I have seen others laud) consists of generic muzak, overlaid with random animal cries and mechanical nonsense that has no bearing on whats going on around you.

I can forgive Hello Games, they are an indie studio with indie budgets and indie mindsets. What I'm less inclined to forgive (and we as gamers are as much to blame for this) is having them dragged out twice at E3, hyping this thing into the AAA it isn't, and me traveling round 3 different retail outlets to find a boxed copy for £40. This thing ought to have been £15 digital only, and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this gets pushed out onto PS plus as a freebie in the next 12 months.

Even though a bit of my journey was exciting and immersive in and of itself, my entertainment was exceptionally temporary as the looming realization of stagnant progress encroached evermore on my fleeting happiness.

    Further still:
-There are several mechanical bugs/glitches, render distance/pop-in issues, texture and clipping bugs, screen tearing, frame drops, UI and AI problems, and audio glitches
    -Frequent game crashes
-Game saves can occasionally fail to load/do not load properly
    -Unstable 30fps
-Simple RNG, even at the beginning, weighs too heavily on game difficulty (balancing issues)
-Cannot change (a remarkably zoomed) FOV, and options in general are fairly limited
    -Text “puzzles” are excessively easy
    - Inventory space is bizarrely small (and ease of management could be improved)
-Combat (in space and on the ground) is exceedingly awkward- as are the controls in general
-Planet, alien race/monster, structure, and ship designs too quickly exhibit their “copy and paste” similarities (perhaps inspect/change how planets in proximity are generated or add further biomes/textures/structures/races, etc.)
-Proper trading (with price forecasting per location) is contradicted by procedural generation (which further conflicts with inventory management)
-Interactions with aliens is simple, repetitive, and often completely trivial
-Indications of player taking any damage too closely resembles typical indications of player taking fatal damage
-Weather phenomenon is sometimes an underwhelming spectacle
    - And many, many more issues

I personally would not value the game at $60, even with the proposal of future updates (most notably base building). I would recommend waiting until the price drops (by at least 50%), and several patches iron out the more detrimental bugs. To really determine whether or not my criticisms would be sufficiently reflected in others, however, I’d encourage one to watch streams or pure gameplay footage (as opposed to tailored marketing videos/trailers). Surely, I would expect some to find this experience much more enjoyable and valuable than I have.

    1. Is it worth the $60US price tag that would normally come with a AAA game?
    2. 6 hours into the game, do I feel like I have experienced diversity, a repeated sense of wonder and a drive to do more to achieve goals?
    3. Is the feeling of immersion unbroken?

In answer to all three of these questions I would have to say no. $60 is FAR too much for a game in such a state. If I pay AAA prices the I expect a finish to the overall product that doesn't leave me wondering what could've been nor what the time frames for fixing it look like. Not only does it have an overwhelming feeling of rinse/repeat but since I discovered the simple process of harvesting Vortex Cubes I have now achieved the goal of a large ship so now what? The 'story' is so thin that there is no sense of achievement in following it beyond it being some direction. Interaction with aliens is so superficial that learning their language is a waste of time. In fact the only reason why I enjoyed monoliths was for the break in the tedium of flying around trying to find extra nodes to learn words. Finally the buggyness and sloppy feeling of flying has left me feeling like immersion is almost non-existent. You just start getting into it and then it starts chopping up. You approach a base and engage landing and it lands you next to a platform not on it!!!

Frankly I'm not interesting in what it could be, I expect that paying AAA prices means that I'm buying what it is, and what it is, is a $15 game at best and that's what I'd pay. However I would consider paying more for expansions and not feel ripped off. Right now though it's not a great experience and far too repetitive

In one word; shallow. Fun for an hour or two, then it's the same tedious mechanics over and over and over again.

I mean sure, exploring at first is great but the procedural generation just grows boring. I get it's meant to be unique but this seems closer to a barebones tech demo than a finished product.

Like many people I was excited for this one and for good reason. I mean unlimited worlds, unlimited loot and gear, fly across the galaxy exploring new creatures and locations. Whats not to love there? And then we got the game. What a massive colossal failure and the team just lied to our face. I can't say what hasn't been said already.

In NMS everything is "awesome" - which makes nothing awesome.

There is life everywhere. Cargo crates everywhere. "Rad" things to see everywhere. Space stations everywhere. And if there is stuff everywhere, stuff is not going to matter. Your experience of finding stuff will bomb within 20 minutes time.

The thing is - NMS has all the modules, all the code and all the design there to create a wonderful and deep planetary exploration experience. But it is not put together in any fantastic and thoughtful fashion - rather it is put together in the most "meh" of ways.

    Sad.

    Pro :
    - Endless Universe to explore
    - Immersive Environment and just something new

    Cons :
    - Lack of Content (The game is about 2.5gb big as download file which doesn't change once installed - so you find out quite fast that this Game really doesn't offer that much of a variety.
    - Aliens look similar
    - After 5 hours you saw almost all ships you can get/buy, they only differ in upgrades, style and price
    - The "uploading" feature doesn't do anything besides give you credits. If you deny firewall access to this Game you can upload everything again after restarting the Game. It doesn't really upload anything, they could've named it "claim for discover" rather than upload.
    - Graphics are just terrible, just take a look at the ground it looks like someone threw up on the ground and was too lazy to clean it up
    - Plants, Rocks, Planets itself look almost same, just color difference
    - Biggest problem : Inventory size, you find yourself collecting stuff from loot boxes, yeah and then surprise they don't stack. You ship is full in the first 20min, so is your suit inventory. I found myself running around for like almost an hour before i could fix my starter ship to get off the planet.
    - The handling of the ship is terrible, you dont really want to use a and d otherwise you find yourself spinning like crazy.
    - Running feels like walking, walking feels like slow motion
-You can't even use the word "optimized" because it is just not. It's 30 fps capped upon first launch with low settings along side. I got a pretty decent pc and i face freezes, fps issues and bugged textures all over the place.

So in comparison this Game looks to me like an unfinished Tech preview of the Game. If you play it for like 2 hours you will ask yourself - "is that really it". This Game is just not finally done, but sadly it is. You can even harvest plants. You must shoot everything with your lazer which overheats like an cpu without cooling.

Full price worth? No definitely not, not even half price is worth. 15-25€ seems okay but still not fair for an 2016 Game which was hyped so hard.

Wait for an price cut, or get a pirated version since this Game (and the whole development) doesn't deserve this money. They first advertised this Game as mmo-based multiplayer which got played down and finally simply just edited in steam as "singleplayer".

Please, i hope they don't ever create a Game again.

No Man’s Sky effectively portrays the loneliness of space by providing so little for the player to do that it’s tempting to flush one’s self out of an airlock just to break the tedium.

Not that you can do that. That would be too interesting.

After all the hype, all the promises, all the boasting of procedurally generated wonder and dynamic encounters, Hello Games’ “ambitious” spacefaring game is little more than just another crafting and survival experience, more about performing mundane, repetitive tasks than providing unique and exciting encounters.

If you’re not sick of the hundreds of survival games out there already then No Man’s Sky, with its endless resource collection and irritating inventory management, might be for you.

For anybody else, the allure of hopping from planet to planet just isn’t all that intriguing – once you’ve completed a long and dull journey from one world to another, you’re going to touch down and basically do what you did everywhere else.

    02

The game’s biggest feature – that no one planet is the same – means very little when your interactions on each one are practically identical.

Yes, there are dry planets, watery planets, cold planets, stormy planets – but they all adhere to the same simple rules. The major difference between a poison planet and a nuclear planet is the fact you’ll get a different logo next to the timer that tells you how long you can stay outside.

The animals, mixed and matched quite obviously from a pool of recycled body parts, can be fed to uncover rare materials, but you can’t do much beyond that. Aside from the few that are hostile and prone to attack, the animals are just there to look weird.

Upon encountering a large, dinosaur-like creature, I proceeded to use my **** jetpack (and boy is it ****) to ride on its back. I thought that would be fun. Instead, I just fell through its back because it had no solidity, leaving me to sigh and return to yet more mind-numbing resource collection.

My disappointing experience with the dinosaur has come to exemplify No Man’s Sky‘s biggest problem – everything is so obviously faked, so unabashedly illusory. The universe is devoid of credible, tangible life. For as much as the game promises dynamic adventures, everything is scripted, static, held in place like cardboard cutouts in a fairground ride.

Sentient aliens met along the way are never found just wandering the land. They remain stood or sat in place like static quest givers in an MMO – without the quests. Every now and then, other starships land nearby, but nothing ever gets out of them. To interact with their pilots, you must interact with the ship, at which point a character model pops up and you can have a text-based conversation with a pop-up character model.

The world of an average Elder Scrolls game may be far smaller than No Man’s Sky‘s galactic sprawl, but it’s inherently more meaningful, vivid, and lively, because it actually has stuff to do and people to meet.

    03

No Man’s Sky is indicative of a big problem the games industry has – conflating the size of a game’s world with the quality of its character. It’s yet another game that pushes scale above everything else, but when it comes down to actually playing the thing, sheer landmass doesn’t account for much.

I simply do not care that I can explore a universe when that universe contains animals a mere window dressing, lifeforms that stand affixed to one spot, abridged visual novel confrontations, and an endless need to shoot rocks and trees to continue micromanaging every banal detail of my character.

The endless collection of resources needed to refill multiple fuel sources is a total drag, but it’s really the best bit of substance the game has to offer. An incessant journey from planet to planet, zapping carbon and iron out of plants and stones so you can journey to more planets in order to zap more plants and stones.

This constant feeling of chasing one’s own tail for the sheer sake of it is found in many survival games, and it’s just as prevalent here. Everything is a chore, everything needs some special sort of fuel source, and there’s not enough room to carry it all. You start out slow, unable to sprint for long, with a terrible jetpack for a modicum of enhanced travel.

One’s abilities can have upgrades crafted for them, but upgrades share the same restricted inventory space as everything else, meaning you need to choose between being able to sprint for an acceptable amount of time or being able to carry more things. This becomes less of a problem when you buy bigger starships to carry more loot, but it remains an annoyance and it makes the early game an uphill battle against crushing ennui.

    04

Breaking up the “enjoyment” of filling your tiny (if slowly expandable) inventory with materials are frequent attacks from Sentinels – robotic annoyances that seem to be everywhere and further drive home the uniformity of this allegedly varied universe.

NMS does has its moments; the seamless transitions when travelling between planets, occasional beautiful vista and procedurally-generated creatures can lead to some rather profound experiences early-on. For me, the magic wore off pretty quickly; I began to dread landing on planets just to chase after resource icons and hoover-up rocks. Perhaps if Hello Games adds some of the features they talked about during development that didn't make the final cut, this game will have the content needed to stand on its own. Fly over a planet and watch repetition of the same hill/cave/crater, next to the same clearing/pond/crevice, and then the same building you've seen on the past 10 planets.

Off-planet, space is exactly the same in every system.

The animals rarely change significantly from one planet to the next. I've seen the same birds and same jellyfish looking thing on almost every planet.

The buildings are all copy-paste from one plane to the next.

    And that's the entire game.

Exploration implies, in my mind, the hope of finding something notable that nobody else has seen. That's why running in a hamster wheel isn't exploring, and flying from one plane to the next in this game doesn't feel like exploring.

If you don't want to run in the hamster wheel, there's nothing else to do.

I never would have bought this game if there was truthful advertising.

The best way I could describe the feeling is that it feels like a 'play to play' game ... you are forced to play this game and mine materials and do exactly how the game wants you to or else you're out of luck and can't advance at all even if you just wish to roam the planet looking for stuff.

This game isn't for the majority of people. The fact that Sean Murray said it has 'hundreds of hours' of gameplay and I barely made it to 2, makes me question just what they were doing when they made this. If you enjoy this game, good for you, but the repetition for many will set in early, and if you're like me, you'll see the non-vibrant planets and the non-intelligent creatures that just feels tacked on and for all intents and purposes, falls flat.

They should have done 100 different legs, body, eyes, face, etc that way when the new planet with life you land on would have a greater chance on not looking the same. The same could be said about the planet generator as well.

The big set back is there is no REAL multiplayer and Sean Murray is very contradicting with multiplayer. He said you would be able to meet other players but there's a extremely small chance but then says its not a multiplayer game. The game info on the game case, on steam, and on PSN all say 1 player. To top it off 2 players got to the exact same spot on a world yet they could not see each other like Sean Murray said they could.

Verdict: 4/10 - Its a great game if you just want to relax and explore space in your spare time but there's lack of content and poor random generator. No multiplayer which could've added more hours of fun being able to explore with friends or a random person you come across.

If you're interest in the game is unwavering, at least do your wallet a solid and wait until the game can be picked up for $20 used at your local Gamestop. I couldn't possibly recommend this title to any serious gamer, unless you're suffering from insomnia. In that case, have at it! Otherwise...just go back to The Witcher 3. There is nothing here to see. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. While I appreciate that they have vastly improved the game over the last 3 years, it is only now approaching what was promised at launch. The game's base concepts are just not good enough to hold my attention or make me feel like I would rather be playing this than something else, which is a shame. The worst part of all of this is that they feel that they are still sensible in charging $59.99 for this, which is absolutely obscene.

My advice is that if you want some good fun with randomly generated stuff (including space) then go pick up Spore for a third of the price (or cheaper if you can find it on sale). Also, I have about 35-40 hours but I originally bought the game when it launched from the GOG store.

The universe is huge but what makes it good? Thats it, its just "Big". Travelling through out the entire universe is boring and just going from one planet to another is just a chore and just feels like it takes too long. There is no story and no real goal for this game, so overall you just feel useless and underpowered. You start off trying to fix your ship but it gets overly boring from there. There is no multiplayer (Which was a huge selling point for the game). There was no caves to explore, no customizable FOV and best of all. The graphics looked like it was straight barf! In the gameplay trailers we were shown huge beautiful worlds. But in No Mans Sky we are just given an optimization pile of trash. There was no interest in the game and it wasn't difficult or have any difficulty in it at all. Atleast the game is playable ill give it that. And it did feature the main theme. But what good is the main theme if you cant do anything interesting. Overall I give No Mans Sky a 4/10. Do not buy this game. Maybe if it was free, maybe...

    Cons:
    No multiplayer.
    No mountains.
    No deep caves.
    No deep sea exploration.
    No forests.
    No customizable FOV.
    No challenge.
    No interesting NPC.
    No story.
    No ending

    Pros:

It's one hell of a hot mess. I have a little sympathy for Hello Games, but they really didn't do themselves any favours with their vague pre-release claims and their almost complete silence since release.

It wouldn't be so bad if it was £20.

I will be taking it back to GameStop so I can get some money back as it became overwhelmingly redundant after hour 10-15. The planets might have different fauna and textures but the actual terrain is exactly the same from planet to planet. There are only few different materials really to collect, as plutonium gives you everything to survive, move, and mine. Titanium, Iron and Zinc help with creating tech. And other than that you have a revolving door of "precious metals" to collect for no other reason than to make money, and are found and mined the same way. I'm frustrated as Sean Murray alluded that you can create things like minecraft, but in reality you have to find blue-prints and cannot use imagination to create things. Then again, there aren't enough different elements to make that challenge worth while. The caves are all built the same way. There are no rivers or anything that would break up a very patch-work environment. Everything in Space (planets, space stations, ships) is static except the pirates that seem to come after you much like spam ads hit you on the internet. The ships aren't even attackable or trade-able, they are their for background. For story, its very shallow text based experience. Understanding races languages does very little to change anything other than improving very boring dialog during trading stations that gives marginal benefits. I don't want to tell you too much about the end-game, but the game has a redundancy that extends beyond jumping system to system, but galaxy to galaxy that will make you want to pull your hair out. There is no sense that others are in the same galaxy. You are completely alone, as Sean Murray explained THE DAY BEFORE RELEASE. I personally do not believe we share the same universe, but share a multi-dimension universe where we are just uploading names of places. The game was an absolute joy for the first 10 hours..... but then, I started wondering what the damn point was. I did buy the game for a lot of reasons that Sean was talking about during the IGN first and videos prior. I did not realize that a lot of the ideas he was floating earlier would not make it into the final product as they just plainly ran out of time. Its a shame, because the game has an idea, and for a team of 14 people, pretty amazing..... but if it is not what was explained to people, it should not be a $60 AAA game. Some blame the gamer for the misunderstanding of the game. I don't, I blame the marketing of Sony and the numerous streams of Sean Murray for not being honest about the final build of the game. Anyway, I will return this game to Gamestop, pick up Uncharted 4 which I haven't played yet, and wait for the Nukaworld DLC for fallout 4 to drop..... Because this game was overwhelmingly disappointing. Expand

The gimmick of the procedurally generated planets wears thin soon, and shockingly the game does not have anything to base itself upon that beyond that.
It's as if a comedian told his best joke at the beginning of open mic night and then proceeded to regale the eager crowd with a story of his favorite shoe color.
The survival and FPS gameplay is arduous at best and frustrating at worst. The Sentinel robots begin to try one's nerves after the sixth millionth time you've encountered them in the same galaxy.

Inventory management is an absolute shambles as well. Micromanaging the small inventory space really starts to grind soon. I know there will be many free updates (and no paid DLC) to this game, but even if they gave me infinite space I still wouldn't like an inventory where resources and upgrades go together.

The only thing that can be said in the game's favor is that the procedurally generated planets are a technical marvel, and should be appreciated for the sheer audacity of the idea.

But I think they chose the wrong gimmick to hype up, and they should have spent more time on polishing the other elements. Fair play to Hello, but I think I have 18 quadrillion other games to play instead.

In fact, a lot of the stuff you're suggested to do in the game was really only added at a late stage, when the developers decided to try and market the game for a large audience.

In terms of gameplay, think Minecraft, but without actually building (just the mining and crafting part). The discovery and scanning parts (and the general aesthetic) feel to me rather like Metroid Prime. And the broad concept (i.e. exploring a massive and realistically scaled universe) is pure Elite. You will get out of this game precisely what you put into it... there's nothing helping you along. There are a couple of ways in which you could theoretically "finish" the game... to be honest, I'm not in the least bit interested in that. In fact, I will actively seek to avoid it. I'm quite happy pursuing my own quest to translate the local alien dialect of the area in which my game started out, and getting the necessary keys to unlock some of the locked areas.

It really helps if you understand (and I mean **really** understand) just what the developers have achieved too... this will help you overlook the fact that the graphics are quite basic, and draw distances (when flying close to planets at speed) are frequently compromised by a weird dithering effect.

Also, you have to be forgiving where the developers have compromised real physics in favour of playability. Docking/landing your ship is basically done for you; gravity is depicted as per Hollywood movies (i.e. not related to the mass of objects), some of the "things" from which you get "elements" are quite illogical and space itself is bizarrely blue & pink... never black. This is very much SciFi with the emphasis on "Fiction".

So... not realistic enough for anyone expecting Elite; way too open-ended for the majority of video game players. Who is this going to appeal to exactly? The answer is right here in the Metcritic reviews.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is my second review and after playing it for sometime and watching videos of all the promises of what was supposed to be in the game I am doing a new one. I realised when watching said video why I was so hyped for the game as all the things Shawn said would be included, the list is far too big to mention here but watch one of the many 'NO MANS LIES' videos on Youtube or Angry Joes review. Not to mention that but also the ending which was a total pisstake. Luckily Amazon have been good enough to refund me my money and let me send the game back (got to love Amazon!) so I have no ordered Deus Ex! I heard that Hello Games were being sued for the use of the generation system the game uses, maybe this was why so many features were left out? Maybe Sony pushed to release it quickly? Maybe they run out of money to add all the features? I dont know but what I do know is by watching Angry Joes review it reminded me of all that was promised and that is not the game I received. If anyone saw any of the gameplay demos with lush planets and amazing creatures flying in the air or huge Dinosaurs and so on, none of this is anything like what I saw when I visited these barren, dry and bleak planets. All the animals looked fairly alike and it was just boring. Unfortunately this game is not worth £60 and even at a price of £20 you are going to get bored very quickly only to find out that if you do make it to the center of the galaxy you will find there is no pay off, like none at all, like there isnt anything there so all the grinding is for nothing. I am so happy I found that out before going there myself as I had make sure I stayed clear from spoilers but Angry Joes reviews made me need to find out what was at the center. I stuck up for this game as they were a small indie outfit who was getting lots of bad press and reviews but they deserve it because they lied to us about everything. The game is a shell of what was promised and if I hadnt been able to get my refund I would be very upset. That being said the first time you fly out from the planet you start from it is something special, after that however the monotony sets in. Such a shame as this could of gone down as one of the best games ever! Expand

I didn't misunderstand the game. I knew that it was survival based. I knew that it was a slow paced game where exploration, gathering, and trading would be key. I get all that. The reason why No Man Sky is a dud for me is because Hello Games promised a gigantic universe to explore but only has about 1000 or so core assets - meaning this "huge" universe start to look the same within the first few hours.

My excitement dropped immensely when I landed on just my second planet and found the SAME flora asset that just had the name changed. The the SAME rock/Iron asset, again with just the name changed. Then the SAME minerals and crystals. The creatures looked almost identical, with variation so small I couldn't actually notice the difference (though to be fair, I saw more variation in creatures eventually.)

The first 10 planets I explored I saw repeats of the same assets over and over again, so I'm using my scanner to make this "new" discovery, and its just the same exact plant I've already seen 20 times, just with a different name.

THAT, friends, sucks. That is cause for legitimate disappointment. It doesn't matter how enormous the game world is if only 10% or so of it feels truly unique. After a while I starts to feel like basically "ah this is the green planet, that's the red planet, here's the blue planet -- where everything on it looks more or less the same.

Guess what's worse? The structures for every alien race, every outpost, every shelter that I visited in my 30 hours of gameplay use the SAME damn models. Talk about immediately killing any sense of vastness or difference or exploration.

The Sentinels on planets is also a let down. Every planet I've visited has them. Sometimes they are more aggressive, sometimes they aren't - but I never got to a planet where I truly felt like I was the FIRST to explore. Someone's always been there before me. It is also annoying has hell to have sentinels constantly interfering with your efforts to do the most basic things like harvest a mineral. And talk about repetitive. Sentinels follow the exact same script, in the exact same way, on every single planet I've been to so far.

I don't feel like I was confused about what kind of game this is. I feel like the execution on what the game aspired to be is unfortunately quite poor.

One of them can't even get in the game the last two times so he stopped trying until a patch is finished.), lazy building/resourse modeling, unengaging gameplay that requires you to be sitting pointed at rocks and other resources (which all look exactly the same) for hours on end, and endless weak instances of getting attacked by the same two enemy types (Pirates and sentinals) for the entire game. I have now landed at a 4. For a game that seemed to have endless imagination, Hello Games managed to put almost no imagination into a story or purpose behind all of this monotonous crap. I've logged probably about 40 hours into this game btw. I held on hoping that as the story unfolded and my gear was upgraded I'd be treated to a more pleasurable gaming experience, but the enjoyment never game. I found myself sick of landing on the same types of planets over and over again, disappointed with the thrown together piles of body parts they called creatures, and annoyed with the constant need to find resources to continue on my journey. I set my sights on one thing in the end, reaching the center of the galaxy. Boom I started blasting off flying from planet cluster to planet cluster hoping for an epic finish to what has been a lackluster journey. After 40 hours of total gameplay I seem to be no where near a finish to this game which sucks cause its hard to want to finish. Why 15 Quintilian?? If your going to just lie or being incredibly vague about the multiplayer aspect of the game, at least give people the satisfaction of saying, "Oh hey someone named this planet already. Wow that's hilarious. Great Job Hello Games!!" But pretty much no ones said that. Cause when this shotty games connection to the network is actually active you don't see dick from other people. Not a planet, definitely not a creature, and not even a system. This game is so big to the point where it removes the "moments" Sean Murray blabbed about for months leading up to the game. After 40 hours I'd expect to see at least a planet named by someone....but every planet I've found so far I've discovered. Seems to kinda defeat the purpose don't you think? But I could forgive all the multiplayer bs, the lazy modeling, and the complete lack of a compelling story if the game was just fun, but to say it is would be an outright lie. Sloppy controls to the combat make it hard to enjoy which leaves mining resources and looking at procedurally generated planets as the only real enjoyment factor to this game. The only reason its not lower than a 4 is occasionally I would land on a planet and look out over a field of blue grass and be like "Yup this is the only thing that makes this journey worth it". But without more even that seems to fall flat on its face. So I leave you with this question folks. If you were to buy a brand new Tesla automobile with the latest technology in electric vehicles and it ran like absolute crap, would you consider it a good car just because the technology was so advanced? No. You wouldn't. Because people don't buy cars just to look at them. They buy for the ride. No Man's Sky has deprived me of the thrill of the ride while charging me for a cutting edge sports car. I don't think we should praise using new technology badly just because there was new technology at play. Expand

Your only meaningful goal (other than grinding for better gear) is reach the center of the galaxy which for me turned into a mad rush. I stopped caring about planet hopping because they all started looking the same and I just rushed to be done with it all. Last, and most important point is the blatant lying by Sean Murray about multiplayer. No one can deny the many youtube videos of him lying about multiplayer. I'm sorry, this is just not a good game. It's not worth $60, more like $15-$20. It caused my PS4 to crash numerous times. I returned it for a full refund after 10 hours of gameplay. It's boring, repetitive and biggest disappointment of 2016.

No Man's Sky is a game that will go down in history; not because it's good, but because there has never been a game that has been this disappointing. No, really; I can't think of a single game that was missing so many advertised features on launch.

But, let me start off with the positives. When you start up to game and explore your first planet, it's a magical experience. You find all of these minerals and see these goofy animals and plants, and you just have a generally good time. The ambient music is very well made, along with most of the in-game sounds. The system for learning to understand alien languages is really cool too. But as soon as you begin to really get into the game, you'll realize that there is something fundamentally wrong with it.

Every planet you go to hardly differs from the other ones you visit. Almost every single planet has nearly the exact same resources. The buildings you find are carbon copies of each other, and you'll start recognizing patterns in the animals ridiculously fast. Then, there's the space stations. You'd think they'd be bustling hubs of business with plenty of space-faring life to interact with. There is literally ONE actual alien in them. You can talk to the various space pilots in their ships, but you can't actually see them outside interacting with each other. The big freighter ships that are in the game don't move, and you can't pilot them. The various ship types that Murray emphasized are nearly null and void; you just look for the one with the biggest inventory, no matter what. Another thing Murray talked about was landing on asteroids, which you can NOT do!

And then there's the factions. They're basically worthless and your ties to them don't do anything to benefit you. You don't get ships to guard you from pirates while navigating the galaxy, or unique parts to attach to your ship; they're just, there. And this wouldn't be such a problem if there was actual multiplayer! And the "Sean Murray said you would probably never find another player!" excuse doesn't defend them NOT INCLUDING IT.

The life on planets does not get crazier and more mutated as Murray said. There's no brontosaurus creatures or dune worms; and the large animals in the game don't have their animation speed scaled correctly. Almost every animal in the game looks off.

And yes, I understand the Hello Games is a small team. But the fact of the matter is that they were backed by Sony. **** SONY! They knew that people would expected most of these features in the game, but yet they refused to Let Sony increase their team! And on top of that, Sean Murray back over his statement about the game not having paid DLC! Everything surrounding this game is shady, and I feel like we've been cheated out of what could have been the best game of all time.

Graphics are mediocre (played on PS4). Lots of bugs and popping up. Planets are only different because of colors and nothing else. This game is a perfect example of why you should not get on board the Hype train. I recommend to skip it, but if you can not resist it, just rent it for a few days.

    1. Crashes. I currently have the most recent patch (1.05) and I'm still getting crashes. Before 1.05 it was enough to frustrate me, now it's once in a blue moon and "tolerable".

    2. Bugs. I have discovered all species on 4 planets yet have only been credited with the 'journey achievement' on 2. The last planet which I am still on, I spent the past 3 days looking for one more creature, to find it and get a 15/15 found but only a 93% completed rate. After this, I have zero incentive to continue scanning and searching for creatures as I gain nothing from it, except wasted time.

    3. Graphics. IMO the graphics are actually fine, except in the most recent update I find the pop-ins much worse.

    4. Pirates and space combat. I probably should list this at number 1 as I find it the most annoying, I can hardly travel in space without being attacked. Since I can't fly away from them and space combat is horrible, I just let myself get killed and fly back to retrieve my items. Oh and did I mention the space combat is horrible? I have managed to destroy one ship, but it was on its own. Usually you're taking on 3 ships at once.

    5. Things really aren't that different. I have been to countless planets and systems, but after you've seen a dozen planets with different creatures etc. it all ends up looking the same. I have found 'space whales' on 3 planets so far that are all absolutely identical. I can't say I feel the excitement of finding something new when I land on a new planet now.

    6. Maxing things out happens fairly quickly. After about 50 hours my exosuit is maxed out with 48 slots. After you purchase one ship with say 20-25 slots (around 2-4 million units), all you have to do is find crashed ships and gain an extra slot until your happy. I'm at a 30 slot ship despite only buying 1 ship so far worth 1.8million units that had 24 slots. In other words I have 4.8 million units now but see little reason to spend on anything now.
Also gaining all the basic blueprints can be accomplished in just a matter of hours. Afterwards you just keep finding or receiving ones you already know.

    7. Cost. I judge all games I buy on cost vs enjoyment I get. It's $80CDN which is what AAA games cost here. I rarely purchase games at this price as I'll wait for price drops or sales, but I figured it would be worth the gamble as I was looking for a more relaxing game to play. The last game I spent $80 on was Uncharted 4, which is a well polished and amazing game that I can say gave me $80 worth of enjoyment.
Spending $80 on a game that crashes constantly, has bugs that doesn't recognize your progress simply isn't worth it. I actually do like NMS, but I would say it's a $40CDN game at most.

    8. Inventory. I nearly hit submit before remembering the inventory. The worst thing is if your ship or exosuit are full, then you can't see materials required to craft or add technology, meaning you must either sell or just destroy items to free up a slot.

    The Good:
    1. Well, my favourite thing to do in games like GTAV or Just Cause3 is wander around and do my own thing. That's pretty much what NMS is. Wander around and do you own thing. I find that relaxing and a nice change of pace from other games I play.

Despite having more negatives I do actually enjoy NMS and it could still be a good, solid game in the future. However in its current state at its current price, I simply could not recommend this game to anyone.

They said, and I‘ve seen, living planets, with a logic, with a sense.
Some planets where exploration made you say " wow " everytime . This is what they did see.
They spoke about exploration. They only talked about exploration.
    But, seriously?
There is no life. There are always the same (stupid) things in every planet you visit, and even the randomness of the procedural system can make it look different.
They could make an effort to create the “bricks” more numerous and varied.
There are 10 kinds of trees , 10 types of stones , 10 types of bushes, 5 tyes of flowers, 20 kinds of elements. How can a procedural system create live planets , each one different from the other?
Where are the mountains , the plains , seas or rivers ? Where is the randomness of a living planet?
Only the color and the position of the things are different. But, serously?
How can a ridiculous animal species produce exactly the same ridiculous sound light years away?
How can one more identical baby-face dog make me feel to be alive on an alien planet?
How can give me the pleasure of exploration?
Another fan-kind stone that give you carbon. Seriously? Is the same stone that I cataloged in the system that I just left ! why should I give it another name ?
I’m stupid? Yes I’m stupid. But not is my fault.

A universe that could be explored for infinity, an entire lifetime for myself literally! During the buildup and hype surrounding this game I was wondering what the premise of this game actually was. Well, I downloaded No Man’s Sky off of the PlayStation store, because it was sold out in all of the gaming stores in Ames, Iowa. The downloading portion only took about thirty minutes, which was probably one of the only things I was pleased with. So sad to say it folks, but this game was a big disappointment in my eyes. When I first started playing the game, there was a few things that caught my eye. Graphics, flying the ship, and exploring was really exciting. After a few hours of not knowing what was going on, and no real mission driven plot, plus the terrible soundtrack, I was fed up! I didn’t mention the very tedious mining and collecting of resources to do anything, and when I say very tedious I mean that with my entire heart. Plus not to mention exploring and time it takes to get places in the game play was ridiculous! Even when you did collect enough resources to get an upgrade, it was a sad disappointment. Even upgrading your own ship, which is a big accomplishment in the game, offered nothing special except more slots for mindless resources. Even the fighting gameplay with your ship is very difficult and almost impossible to hit a target flying through space with you. This game was defiantly not for a person like myself. I would say this is more driven to people that do not mind taking a long time collecting resources, and really figuring out the game for themselves. This game is not going to hold your hand, and push you in to the right direction. You are going to have to spend a lot of time finding your way, which is why I did not enjoy this game past a few hours. This could very well have become my new favourite game of all time.
I spent a majority of the day I got it playing it, and spent a further few hours the following day on the game as well. However, I have not touched it since then and have no intention to either.
    I'll start with the good:
-The planets you find in this game have the potential to be gorgeous and full of life. Truly, some breathtaking sites.
-Learning alien languages word by word is an interesting, yet fun concept. and can offer up better trades for you.
-The overall look of the 'solar systems' and galaxies is, once again, breathtaking to say the least.
And now, we journey to the other side of things:
-Yes, there are some amazing planets, but they are few and far between all the barren ones you will come across, not to mention toxic, hot or freezing ones that take away you life support power.
-The creatures you encounter are nothing like those in the trailer. They are procedurally generated to provide new combinations, but they often looked mashed together. Kind of like when you play with lego when you're younger and put different pieces together to make something entirely new, only for it to be like something you made earlier.
-Space combat is, once again, nothing like the trailer. It is oftentimes tedious and difficult early on in the game.
-No factions like in the trailer. Maybe there is factions in the game, but none that are apparent to the player, and certainly none you can join.
-All the ships are the same just with more slots for your inventory. There are no advantages to specific ones otherwise.
-No multiplayer at all. Personally, not a fan of multiplayer games but coming across other players would have been nice and the fact it was advertised and then turned out not to have it was rather...disappointing.
Overall, I did not enjoy this game and find too many issues to consider giving it higher than a 4.
Do I think it's a bad game? No.
Do I think it's overpriced and lacking in multiple areas? Yes.
Had this game been a £20, early access title on steam, I would probably love it, but a £50 game on the PS4 is far too much for something horrendously lacking in features that may come in future updates.
Buy this game when it's on sale, but don't fork out anything above £30, as I truly do not believe it to be worth it.

I spent ages trying to discover every plant and animal on my planet, and was excited to finally leave in search of exciting planets. However, that feeling of excitement quickly wore off for me. After a while you realise the games limitations in what is supposed to be an infinite universe. Planets would start to look the same, space stations lacked any variety, and interaction with npc's became very limited. On a side note, how am I the first person to discover a planet if there are already alien life forms scattered around said planet? Putting aside the lack of gameplay features that people were told would be in the game, No Man's Sky feels extremely bare bones. What is the point of having 18 quintillion planets in a game? Why create a game where 99% of it will never be discovered? The only reason I carried on playing this game was the hope of finding something new an exciting in the universe. Needless to say, I didn't. Maybe this game will improve with regular updates and added gameplay features. But considering how quiet Hello Games and Sean Murray have been since launch, I wouldn't be surprised if this game remains the way it is. The main personal carrot on the stick is all the researching and chasing after new tech or rare/exotic gear/equipment. All to the backdrop of looking at colorful vibrant worlds while listening to the great in game soundtrack. The game does offer other things like mining, base building, trading, bounty hunting, fleet management, farming, pets and cataloguing.

The game is far from complex or deep. Pretty easy to pick up and put down on normal difficulty and not much of challenge. It does have survival mode which is not even that hard ( perma-death as of yet to be tried ). This a pretty chill laid back gaming experience for sure. Took my mind of the Pandemic BS for sure.

2021 Updates have tanked the frame rates. PC and Console gamer hey developers no excuse not to put graphical and effects slider bars/toggles in the console versions. Which consoles games tend to run worse anyway, because they don't have beefier or upgradable tech. WTF is this 20-25 FPS crap?

Game comes with in built VR. The pixelation is alll pretty bad and the planets in space didn't look very VR. The VR cockpit was pretty cool, but not as amazing as Infinite War cockpit. After trying several different VR games the motion sickness has finally gone. Still with all that plastic and rubber on the head? Head overheat happens pretty quicky. Yeah even when using a massive floor fan to try and counter it. Maybe I need to use PS/VR in the winter or something?

This game has risen from its own ashes. It is appreciated that the developers did not abandon it. And they kept updating it. To bring to the level of the players expectations.
Now he's totally worth his money.

Despite its numerous and chunky content updates, No Man’s Sky still manages to be one of the most boring games I’ve ever played. No Man’s Sky is simply put, a boring game. No amount of added content or multiplayer can change what is essentially an empty game without anything valuable to offer. .

The various game mechanics are average at best and there are numerous time wasting gameplay (refining, piloting, excavating). I get the intent of giving a sens of grandeur to the entire world, but once you choose a destination and just travel for minutes, there kind of isn't any point to making it that long.

Anyway, even though the intent of the game is nice, I wouldn't recommend it, the implementation end up providing a somewhat dull experience.

The designers could have crafted 5-15 beautiful and interesting planets with varied biomes. But instead we've got an infinite number of randomly generated planets, most of which inevitably wind up boring and empty.

So prepare to spend hours and hours and hours searching for a pleasant planet for your home base, only to find that once you've found one and started started building, you're in a constant struggle with your inventory size, the game's confusing mechanics, and refueling everything you own or use. Can't find a particular material on your planet? You'll have to fly off of yours, but oh wait no launch fuel. Oh wait no hyperdrive fuel. Oh wait can't find a planet with the material. Oh wait your mining beam is out of fuel. Oh wait you're out of storage space. It all feels much more tedious than in other survival games.

And once you've built your base, a couple cool vehicles, you realize - there's nothing of interest to actually be explored and there isn't much story to speak of. There are barely any threats to your health and safety, and the variations among different kinds of flora and fauna basically amount to: wow, a vaguely cow-shaped thing with longer legs than the last cow thing.

That's my 10-hr story with No Man's Sky. I tried. I really did. And I wanted to like it. Some people do find this infinite randomly generated space exploration thing interesting. But for everyone else, go play Subnautica, The Forest, Conan, Ark or The Outer Worlds, Mass Effect, Astroneer - really any other survival or space game instead.

This feels like they built a world for a game but haven't built a game in it yet. There is nothing to do except wander through a repetitive landscape, and when you realize there is nothing to do you fly to another world with another repetitive landscape and nothing to do.

What appeared to be beautiful at the initial reveal at E3 2014, is not. The games textures are inconsistent. There is a nice amount of alien life to be found if you can get close. The fact that I couldn't crash my ship even when I try is ridiculous. This game has turned out to be one of the most boring ones I ever played. I guess one could argue it isn't a bad game as it is what it is. NoWhat appeared to be beautiful at the initial reveal at E3 2014, is not. The games textures are inconsistent. Ok, they never claimed there would be but with the gameplay being so repetitive and monotonous, maybe there should have been? I am sorry I believed in this. Its boring and weak. Expand

While I’m sure developer Hello Games is still tweaking things and perhaps even creating more content for No Man’s Sky, the current state of affairs is a strong one. This galactic opus still offers an infinite amount of content for those who want to lose themselves among the stars, but now also contains a concrete throughline that will satisfy a wider array of players. It can be irritating at times, but it’s also full of stunning moments and the satisfaction of building a virtual life among the stars. Four years after launch, it’s finally a journey worth taking.

The world of No Man's Sky is insanely vast and beautiful, but there’s nothing to do in it! There’s no goal, no destination, no ending, nothing!

While No Man's Sky is engrossing for the first few hours, repetition starts to set in and the proceedings grow dull. The developers stated that they plan to add significant features such as base building which could dramatically change the game for the better. There's a promising foundation present, so it's possible to envision a more substantial game down the line. As it currently stands, though, our excitement to cross the universe faded sooner than we expected.
