    I like the story sooooo much, and now I have a possibility to play it for my own. Yeah, it’s game from 2010, so you need to understand that it has some “old” gameplay mechanics, but developers did the best to make this game feel more fluid. You shouldn’t miss this title!!

    I like this game and I wished to play NieR Replicant before NieR: Automata because they have a Beautiful links and get a real fantastic experience.
    I recommend to play NieR Replicant before NieR Automata that's doesn't means don't play NieR Replicant if you play NieR Automata, because each game of NieR doesn't contain any spoiler for other. But there is something you have to understand    I like this game and I wished to play NieR Replicant before NieR: Automata because they have a Beautiful links and get a real fantastic experience.

    Fantastic game.

    If you are coming from Nier Automata then you need to temper expectations as this is a slightly different game (also being a 10 year old ps3 game upgrade). There are some annoyances that players might find with the backtracking/side quests, however, don't let this put you off this wonderful game. The Story is really engaging and emotional.     The Story is really engaging and emotional. There are additional scenes added into the upgrade which really add to the story, as well as additional playable content and ending.

    The Graphics are a nice update from the original.

    The Music is phenomenal! They have remastered and enhanced the music to make it feel more orchestral and it really works! This has to be with Automata the best music in a video game if not outside of video games. Kudos to everyone involved in creating the music as it truly is masterful.

    All in all, it is a fantastic experience and it is worth experiencing for yourself!    … Expand

    If your a fan of nier automita then you'll enjoy this game. Sure the combat isn't quit as polished and there is a alot of backtracking, but if you can push past that what is left is a masterpiece story and delightful characters brilliant voice acting and a wicked soundtrack!!

    An absolute masterpiece of a game. While it does have a couple of issues, everything down to the atmosphere, music, and story far out way them. The combat is great too, much like automata's but with a nice parry mechanic. Would recommend it to anyone who's serious about video games.

    This game was always amazing and its a dream come true to get an updated version. This story is one of the most emotional and experimental stories ever told and I dont think it could work on any other medium..

Ive also teased other men that have cried over movies etc. But Nier made my cry!!, the music mixed with the emotional voivce acting and well writen, to the point dialouge cut me like no other stort and on more than on one occasion.
    But just cause a game makes you emotional dosent make it good. Its actually hard to pin point what makes Nier so special. Which is what left itopen to shallow cirisism in the past. Some say side quests and pacing was bad. But personally I felt those things helps to give a feeling of time passing and returning home.. Overall I hope anyone with a refined taste in games and experience with many genres and styles of games checks out Nier. Because that is who I think its for. Those that can see past the surface level and appreciate the design and intricacy in this work    … Expand

The graphics are not great but that doesn't bother me at all, what I have to give credit too is the perfect game play and the fantastic soundtrack that Nier provides, also the story is very well laid out and I can see this series going places. Yoko Taro you're a genius.

    It was suprisingly underwhelming... Automata is one of the best games I have ever played and this falls short in every aspect compared to it. Maybe I had to high expectations coming from automata but this one did not impact me as much as I hoped. It is a fun game, but extremly repetitive and tedious back and forth ruins the experience alot. Story did not capture my like automata did asIt was suprisingly underwhelming...     After playing Nier Automata quite a while ago I was curious on the Nier Replicant Remake. After all the game has its strengths in the character story development, boss fights and cutscenes but I also still think the game lacks in other areas leading me to giving it an 8 to 8.5.

    For example the main areas are well detailed but the open world is very boring lifeless and low detailed,    After playing Nier Automata quite a while ago I was curious on the Nier Replicant Remake. After all the game has its strengths in the character story development, boss fights and cutscenes but I also still think the game lacks in other areas leading me to giving it an 8 to 8.5.

    For example the main areas are well detailed but the open world is very boring lifeless and low detailed, which is a shame considering how well done the main story areas are. Also I was very disappointed by the quality of sidequests. It is obvious that the original game is older and follows some JRPG weaknesses but emphasizes them negatively in certain parts. A simple example are quests were you continously run between A-B-A-B-A just for the sake of talking to a person. The lack of more areas, dungeons or greater connectivity between quests is hurting a lot in my opinion.

    Playing on a PS5 I was also a bit disappointed by the loading performance. In general the times are fast with maybe 5-10 seconds of loading time on average but there are so many loading sequences, elevator points or level designed loading structures that it hurts the overall game flow a lot. If loading times would ve been optimized to 1-3 seconds the game would benefit greatly. Here again it is quite obvious that the original engine is older and not perfectly optimized.

    The strengths of this game are pretty clear. The story might be strange yet it is interesting and has a strong bonding and continuity. Character and item buildup is not special but still good. Together with all the magics and weapon classes it makes up for a decent complexity. The sound design is very flat and simple whereas the OST in general is fantastic and enhances the overall atmosphere greatly.

    For the first regular ending you will need around 15 to 25 hrs depending on speed, sidequests and difficulty. The consecutive endings will take around the same on top plus some completetionist grinding tasks you have to do in order to unlock them.

    To me Nier Replicant is a very nice game that I would recommend but not at full price. As described the game has to me some ups and downs but in general is a very good and unique game. Some art and level design in this game wont be found anywhere else and make this journey worth it. I can only congratulate the developers for so much creativity.    … Expand

    Thanks to NieR Automata. Players can experience the original NieR Replicant. But that's not the ultimate experience. Drakengard series is what gave birth to NieR series. Hoping to see a new Drakengard someday or at least upgraded version of Drakengard 1 and 3. YOKO TARO should be praised more

With a new mixing of the soundtrack, added content, quality of life changes, and improved combat, it really was able to make the original game even better while also serving as a good accessible games for new fans who want to get into the NieR series.     Played Nier: Automata in 2017 and it became one of my favorite games ever. New to this game, and it is just as masterful. Don’t let the grindiness of the side quests and weapon upgrading deter you, as it isn’t all that necessary to get the full experience in the first place. This is a unique, fascinating, incredible, and heartbreaking experience.

My only complaint is that your ability to see all the game’s endings is still walled off behind arbitrarily collecting all the game’s weapons, so I would urge you to find a spoiler-free guide so as not to waste your time (there is a point of no return where you can lock yourself out of seeing all the endings if you don’t collect all the weapons from the first half of the game, so be warned). Other than that, this is a brilliantly unique, brutally sad game that fixes almost all of my major reservations about the original release.… Expand

    While I do think the combat is more fun and the game locations are beautiful. And of course the fantastic music ost. Nier still suffer from some old gen design. like invisible walls, too many loading times. But still recommand to all Automata fans.

    These aren't THAT big of a deal and it's more of a general complaint..but still it'd be nice to see those implemented.

    Other than that..I can't really think of much. Some complained that it was too slow at first...but playing through it...I was fine with this.

    Another thing....I'm fine with replaying stuff if it adds more context (or im playing it again a year or two later) but replaying all this to play as Kaine for 50-70 minutes? I don't know, man...

    Everything else is a pro!

    The music...there's PLENTY of good soundtracks out there...but NieR beats all of them (except maybe one).

    -The feel
    -So many of the characters...they were so well told. Even ones with no official voice lines...I really felt for them. Perspective and context are everything.

    If there was one franchise I'd recommend to a person looking for a story that will move them..make them think...something that doesn't follow the typical story beats..it'd be this one. Before Red Dead 2...Horizon Zero Dawn, The Witcher, etc

    It's a story about humanity, love, sacrifice and like I mentioned before perspective and context.

    Despite some things here and there I'd change...I'm still giving this a 10

    I was looking forward to it for YEARS and didn't disappoint...I can't ask for anything else (except more about Devola and Popola!)    … Expand

    Неизменным остались история и к сожалению геймдизайн, который устарел.

    Nier хорошая игра и она заслуживает большего внимания, чем получила в свое время. Однако, можно было и лучше. Обидно, что Йоко Таро превратился в бренд, пусть творит, а не выгорает. Без спойлеров, если вам понравилась Автомата, то стоит поиграть в Репликант и вы знаете чего ждать. Если вы знаете о Автомате только по жопке 2В, проходите мимо.

    If you liked nier automata, you will like replicant, specially if you have never played it before like me. It starts slow, just as automata but it is worth the 60 dollars. After a couple of main missions you will notice how yoko taro is starting to play with your feelings, and the side missions start to get interesting too. Don't expect drastic changes in gameplay like automata( aerial, hacking), replicant is only ground battle, and the ground battle does feel like automata. I do think that replicant is harder in difficulty.

    The only con I could find is that while the gameplay has improved, I havent encountered an enemy that I can use the full improvement on, but I could be wrong since I only played it for a couple of hours and have done like maybe 6 main missions.

Well just because it’s not for everyone doesn’t mean it isn’t a masterpiece. I say version upgrade and not remake, as the game is a 1:1 replicant (no pun intended) of the last gen versions, so if you’re looking for next gen enhancements please look somewhere else. This exact reason might be a turn off for new players coming in from Automata, and if you are one of them, I really recommend that you just keep going. Nier/Drakengard has never been a franchise about intricate combat systems or amazing visuals, Automata just happened to be an outlier. However if you’re looking for a story rivalling and debatably better than Automata’s, then I highly recommend picking up 2021’s version upgrade of Nier Replicant.… Expand

    Very interesting and different game. This is my first Yoko Taro game and now I understand why people say he is so unique. Something to keep in mind is that you have to complete all of the endings to fully appreciate this game, so it may take a bit of grind and repetition. Cheers to YT to deliver an original and fun experience. 8.5/10

Die Side-Quest sind zu großen Teilen furchtbar. Back-Tracking gehört zur Tagesordnung. Die Musik ist manchmal ein bisschen am overacten.

    Story: 7/10 I really liked ending A and B but i wasn't a big fan of any of the others tbh. Gameplay 9/10 I little repetitive at the end but fun nonetheless Characters 8/10 I loved all of them but i think i liked more the "bad" guys than the "good" guys.     A very depressing game, the story is just amazing, very complex, deep, with subtle symbolisms, but the pacing could've been handled better. The gameplay is great, unfortunately you unlock pretty much all the abilities early in the game, but they are very fun to use, and the combos are satisfying. And the music that they redid is phenomenal with some much emotion just gives me goosebumps every time i hear it. Gathering all the weapons just to get the chance to see the final endings is a pain in itself that requires time, research, and replaying stuff you already did.     Pros:

    -Great music

    -Solid story...... once you get to it.
    -Most of the voice acting

    Cons:

    -Fetch quests...endless fetch quests
    -Constant back and forth
    -EXTREMELY slow start
    -Endless repetition
    -Hammy dialogue

    The main problem with Replicant is its litany of repetitive fetch quests that have you running back and forth between the same areas just to talk to another NPC that will send you back again to that previous area... rinse, repeat. Many of these quests require lists of rare drop items that can leave you grinding for hours upon hours. At one point in the game, you get the same exact quest twice in a row!

    Ultimately, it is a shame because the core combat is fun enough and the story and world is interesting, once it gets going...... which for me was about 30 hours in. Alot of the things that made Automata great are here (albeit in their infancy) but the execution and pacing aren't quite there. The game seems to know it can be a slog, because it a character keeps mentioning how annoying much of the back in forth is... I realize Yoko Taro has an eccentric sense of humor, but this is just one troll that didn't really land.

    It's a game I can only recommend if you are a fan of Automata and you go in knowing that the good goes hand in hand with some slog. When its good, its a great experience, but its certainly not for everyone.    … Expand

After Nier Automata launch, i can say that developers tried thier besties to make the game, that will not fall behind 2017 version. I like how they've made multiple endings that allow you to play this game more and more(thats the problem for new games). I also very fond pf the plot. Its awesome. You try to find the answer for all the quetions, even if you already played Automata, you will heve a lot of questions. So plot was so good with a lot of twists likewise, and i love it. So im waiting what will be the next move of Square Enix and nier series. I really want to see more Nier Automata and Replicant connections or even some contiuation(second part) of this games. Also i like how the developers thanked you after going through all the endings!… Expand

    The graphics are sub par at best, everything has this dull washed out color filter and the areas are dull and lifeless. The enemy designs are pretty bland compared to Automata, the shades are just boring typical shadow enemies and the game never really gives you any variety in that area.

    The gameplay is essentially the same thing from Automata except the only difference is that your robot is a book now. The side quests are still just boring fetch quests so the time in between the good parts are a slog at best, even the main quests leave a lot to be desired.

    Ignore the fanboys on this one, its not even close to Automata in terms of quality or production value. The gameplay is mediocre at best and the only redeeming qualities are the soundtrack and story, wait until its on sale.    … Expand

    I played it for about 12 hours and put it down. The gameplay got pretty boring pretty quickly. I know the story is supposed to be where the games bread is buttered but I do not feel invested at all in any of the story or characters. I am supposed to care for my sister but I just don't.     The characters are very uninteresting and I'm not sure why I should care about them all that much. They all just seem to join for whatever reason and suddenly they all seem to have these tight bonds despite only knowing each other for a few hours. Don't get me wrong they are interesting characters and the banter and dialogue is very well written but it really doesn't get me to care about the characters in the same way as 2B and 9S.

    The music is disgusting and horrible to listen to. I would never listen to any of the music from this game. It's mostly nonsensical chanting. The tracks that ARE good I heard before in Automata already at certain key points. But because those tracks like Kaine's theme are so OVERUSED in Replicant they have lost all sense of charm.

    The only highlight of this game is how it parodies so many other genres. One minute you're in an action RPG but the next you might be in a top down dungeon crawler. I thought this aspect of the game was interesting. But maybe a little gimmicky too.

    Overall I would avoid Replicant. It's not worth playing if you don't have the time. Maybe it has some big reveals later. I'm going to play to the end, but it's a real slow burn. But it doesn't have the early on strong story elements or interesting characters and exciting music to facilitate that slow burn. I wouldn't blame you if you just stop playing.    … Expand

I've died maybe twice during my entire playthrough, and it just has you restart the encounter. There is hardly a punishment for dying in general.

    The worst part about this game is how the re-use every environment several times throughout the game. You're constantly revisiting the areas that you've already been to several times.

    There is also some very odd pacing issues throughout the game, for what I can only assume its intended as some sort of artistic direction, but it fell flat for me every time. Emil's mansion is a great example of this. Why am I being forced to walk throughout the entire mansion with extremely odd music blasting in the background for no apparent reason.

    Automata is clearly the superior game, but both of these games come off as pretentious for no apparent reason. I struggled wanting to finish both games and ultimately rushed to the finish line before I got bored and gave them up.    … Expand

    I want to be clear here, I like the game, I also played a Nier Automata and have an original Nier on xbox 360. So I will say I have no complains about a game as an original , but what is this as a new version? It's just terrible...     But its a lame remaster/remake...
    They didnt care to add much more details for a characters, world and so on.
    But why didnt you do anything with a picture itself ? What happening with this exposition , or fog effect or how you gonna call it? Why it does look awful in main location and does look better in an outer world?
    Why you decided to make a game easier compare to an original?
    I've played a day before an original game it it wasnt a hardcore, but now you need to much really less heats to kill an enemy. Why?

    I waited for this game, I wanted to play it again , but it's a total joke to realease a game in 2021 and to do a better version for one console and totally dont give a crap for another console.

    Complete Ripoff from the original Nier. All they did was change the father character to the kid from the Nier automata... and kept everything from the original game the same. Completely screwing people over who paid good money for something that they where so lazy to just change a character and resale the original game.. such BS...

    Изначально может показаться, что это типичная история про дружбу и принятие друг друга во имя борьбы с однозначно плохими бабайками.
    Но, СПОЙЛЕР, на самом деле главная бабайка здесь только ТЫ. Хотя сама    Nier Replicant бомба однозначно. Иногда тебе кажется, что тебя уже ничем не удивить, и вот такой вот приятный сюрприз. Особенно понравилось сюжетное откровение во время пути в концовке B.

    The story in this game is great, and it isn't afraid to take chances and be creative which is what makes this game shine.

    Without spoiling anything: after the first playthrough I would give this game a 7, but after the second playthrough I think it deserves an 8. The combat is solid, but easy/basic. Many of the spells I never even looked at, I stuck with the same two the whole game.    The story in this game is great, and it isn't afraid to take chances and be creative which is what makes this game shine.

    The combat is solid, but easy/basic. Many of the spells I never even looked at, I stuck with the same two the whole game. Also I ended the game with a ton of combat items I never had to use and forgot they existed.

    There are a lot of things holding this game back from a higher score:
    -The side quests are very boring and very pointless
    -The side activities were also very boring and very pointless (fishing/farming? why? it was not executed well and did not add anything to the game).
    -On normal the game is extremely easy, on hard the game is easy and boring because it is still easy but it takes 4 times as long to kill anything
    -There is a TON of boring backtracking

    The story, music and characters in this game stand out as exceptional. The combat and graphics are mediocre, everything else was pretty bad.    … Expand

    What I seriously cannot understand: I have to play it in 1080p without any AA on my PS5. I regret to not have bought it on steam....what a f*cking lazy port graphics wise.    … Expand

    This game is great, If you liked Nier Automata then you will like this one, its an older game so it feels a bit dated at places but if you stick with it the story is fantastic plus Kaine is the best

    It's a fun game. Very different in terms of story that most modern games with some nice atmosphere and presentation. The game can drag a little in the middle with having to do a couple replays just for some added context but overall it's a good time and the game looks good.

While there arent a million magical arts they do stay true to the original. The story is every bit as eclectic as one would expect. In a world where Hideo Kojima has disappeared up his own rear end the world needs more Yoko Taros.

    This game has soul. Many games lack it nowadays. Rather than ripping off the latest fad game designers ought to take spiritual inspiration from Nier and Taro.    … Expand

    Nier: Replicant is a game for true fans of action JRPGs. For those who have the patience to overcome the slow start and generic environments. And who are willing to play the game several times to fully understand what it was about. They will definitely be rewarded.

    As a remake, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139... is a bit disappointing, because in terms of graphics it only reached the level of NieR Automata, which means it doesn’t look great. The content, however, is still brilliant. It’s an amazing adventure you must experience. [06/2021, p.36]

    If anything, the amazing story of the original Nier has only become more valuable today than it already was back in the day. While many elements have received a significant update, some remain the same, but the story more than makes up for it.
