    Used to be a loyal buyer for what was consistently the preeminent basketball game, but no more. Haven't bought since 2K17 and won't until major changes are made. I'm cool with Freemium models. I am not cool with paying more money after paying full price for the game. However, history tells us screwing over your loyal fanbase will eventually catch up with you. As soon as another company can offer a decent game, I will support them 100%. The only way to send 2K a message and make changes is to stop supporting them with your wallet.

    As for the game itself, it looks like the same game as the past 5 years (is this Madden or something?). Completely controlled by the same set of animations that I saw back in 2K13. A total disregard for the offline modes that do exist. 2K will not improve the game until they are forced to. This is a game for the year 2020, the gameplay should be so realistic at this point that an unaware viewer should struggle to tell if it's a real NBA game. .7/10 is too high of a score for this trash game!! I miss turning my trash Suns into a competitive team, but I will continue to wait in order to send a message.    … Expand

    This game does not deserve a single point, even though its animations, graphics, movement, roster has been improved, all of these "new and improved" features are free patches for every other non-sports games. Even though there are games that do not change their formula and releases the same thing every year like Call of Duty (COD), those    LONG REVIEW FOR BOTH FANS,CASUALS, AND HATERS

    This game does not deserve a single point, even though its animations, graphics, movement, roster has been improved, all of these "new and improved" features are free patches for every other non-sports games.

    Even though there are games that do not change their formula and releases the same thing every year like Call of Duty (COD), those games in the very least changes where the game is set on and creates entirely different models (a gun in Call of Duty Modern Warfare is not in Advance Warfare and its skins/graphics are different while a basketball player is NBA2K series is a player model that has his skin/detail redrawn for "improving graphics").

    I would also like to add that each iteration of the game had the same terrible servers and the buggy launches during its first few weeks of release. Their improvements should've carried over from one iteration to the other however it seems that they just can't learn to avoid these mistakes.

    To top it off, this game just brings back removed game modes/features from its previous iterations and is sold at the base price for $60 for all these "new" features.
    People may argue that this game has a different story from the previous iterations, however many other games like Witcher have sold new compelling stories as a DLC which gives people a choice to pay a bit more (but less than a full priced game) for additional content for the game that they own.

    It boggles my mind how people defend this game when it is clear as day that they are being exploited and taken advantage of themselves.

    It is okay to be passionate and optimistic, but it becomes bad for you and the people around you if you let it blind you from what is actually happening. If the game is doing something wrong, then critic it, don't excuse it and give it a high score. How can they improve it if you do not speak out and reinforce it with action. Action speaks louder than words. (Analogy: In a situation wherein a kid does something bad, if I tell that kid not to do bad but I myself do the bad thing, the kid will not take me seriously right?)

    With everything said on this review, I have nothing more to say other than ending this with a question.

    Do you really think the employees of 2K deserves earning the $60 money for the new features of this each of the iteration for the games while for the same price or even less, other Triple A/Indie Game Developers creates the entirety of their game (graphics, sound, narrative, game mechanics, GUIs, programming, etc.) from scratch?    … Expand

    The badge system is laughable. You shouldn’t be forced into going deep into a character before they are able to do a fade away running jumper—and when you get that badge, you wouldn’t hit 99% of running fade-away jumpers when you’re 100% smothered. Badges are cash or time locked superpowers, and shouldn’t be in a sports sim.

    Missing is too easy. You have a player with 84 three point shooting, and he misses 10 out of 10 three pointers when wide open, if you’re just slightly off with the shooting bar... which is another abysmal implementation of a concept. You hold the button, not for a specific amount of time, but until the bar shows up and fills up. so if you’re standing still, you might hold the button for 1 second for green.. while if you’re running then stop, it might take 4 seconds for the exact same shot. The game is just ultra slow in this regard of hitting moving shots.

    Don’t know what I mean by green? Well there’s this fun feature in the game where if you fill the bar to green, it’s a 100% chance to make the shot... something that should never be allowed in any game is an automatic win. There no gun in call of duty that automatically hits an enemy even if you’re not aiming, just as long as you hold the trigger the right amount of time. It’s insane.

    There’s also gambling in the game where you can bet vc in a game—another horrible addition to the randomness that is all sports games and especially this one.

    Also, the game isn’t fun. you wanna drive the lane and dunk? nah, sorry. someone was standing there... so you’re 7 foot guy went for a layup over the 5 foot guy. Wow, that’s not fun. Dunking in this game is impossible unless you have a mile in every direction clear.

    So many tiny problems too, like you can’t practice anywhere... you can practice once after playing 10 games, then you can practice once per game—but there’s not chill shoot around and learn the game area, like there was previously at loading screens or the title. There’s no “play now”, and just jump into a court where you shoot solo.

    Also the “free spin daily” is messed up where it’s at least 24 hours after you last did it.. so if you can play for an hour once a day starting at noon, you’re gonna eventually have to skip a day every few days, since you can’t claim it the same time everyday. This is a programming oversight, and a foolish one at that.

    There are dozens of little frustrating things i can’t name or remember while typing all this: but there’s one last thing, and it’s what I said at the beginning... video games aren’t ready for sports, and specifically basketball. There’s too much going to to portray it accurately. Watch a real game of basketball for 5 minutes, then watch 5 minutes of this game.

    In this game people do crossover and dribble moves on no one... you do them to a ghost. you’re not dodging a reach in or a steal, or using it to create space, you’re doing a sweet little move to give you an acceleration boost around an opponent that’s forced to stand there while you dance around.

    In this game there’s no dynamic offense. you can call plays and move people around... but make a point guard and go into my player and play against the nba teams... your whole team stands around and does nothing! No one is thinking or looking or moving. And when people do move or do things like create picks, it’s extremely one dimensional and not realistic.

    And in this game when things do look good and realistic—they are canned animations. They are predetermined things that will either be successful or not based on the stats of your person.

    The amount of time they spent animating the cheerleaders looks like more time than they spent playing their own game for fun or to find glitches.

    There’s no reason a game should be this bad in 2019, but since it is, i can confidently say, upon the wager of my eternal soul, i promise you this is the worst game I have ever played.    … Expand

    Wow this is actually a sad day for the sports gaming community. This game is a glorified money stealer. Unfortunately young kids don't realize how grimy this truly is. Rating needs to be changed from E to M due to all the gambling mechanics..

    For some reason, there was a basketball court on my virtual casino, which is cool I guess but distracts me from the gambling. It's a shame that I need to work for money in real life to sustain a good rythm of progress in the game, though.

    The worst NBA ever. Shame.
    The NBA 2K19 was much better. I play My Career mode for many years. This 2K20 is junk.

    - training process in Bball Team Gym is so bad, I can't choose what to train.
    - RPG system is very complicated and bad. Stamina and Speed and acceleration now its not possible to manually upgrade.

    When I first played this game I thought it would be much better with previous modes in 2k18-19 but this is barely a game at all. This nba is almost only about lootboxes, and cosmetics are such a grind to buy.

    I just created an account just to state how mad and disapointend I am about the franchise. This cannot keep going. I wish so hard that EA would come back with a decent basketball video game to give 2K a lesson.

    They killed the myGM mode, and each year it's only less and less customization in every game modes. I already sold my copy.

Thats if you can get through crashes, buggy game play and the now popular 12 min load screens. This is an actual rip off, ignore critic reviews they are all corrupt and paid to rate terrible games with a good review. Trash this one and the rest of 2k games

    Will not stand by and watch EA ruin the industry any more than they already have. Played for a few hours with a friend earlier today and the amount of greed is digusting. The only thing not copy and pasted from past titles is what could be tied into micro transactions. Havent bought an EA title in a few years and after today probably wont again.

    This is the worst 2k I’ve ever played. No matter how much time I put into it my character doesn’t make any improvements. I’m a slasher and can’t drive past a guy half a foot shorter than me. The game is literally made to make you not want to play. Park is unplayable and the my career is awful

    I stupidly placed my credit card on my 10 year old son's PlayStation in order to purchase games in the past. He somehow managed to spend $279 for in game items in two days. I realize it is partially my fault, but how is a game that offers card sets, which are very expensive, allowable to children 3 and up? Upon closer review this game has actual gambling as well.     Players so slow and stiff. Jumpshot is ridiculous! You need to be green or not— despite a shot being close to the shot metre being full, you will get a very flat, very out of rhythm jump shot. They put so much ‘realism’ in the animation that even the fundamental movements look like amateurish. Worst 2K ever.

    Yes, it may have some improvements on graphics here and there, but it is a yearly game, it is supposed to have them, so not really a step up on the game itself, plus those thrown-in-the-face micro transactions are just a low blow.

    These people have to be stopped. For the love of all that is holy do not buy this game. It’s a roster update to 2k19 except with a casino simulator. And it breaks. Overheated my ps4 on menu screens. Just buy NBA 2k11 for $1 out of a dump bin and make your own players, that’s your only option as a basketball fan.

    Yet another poor entry into the NBA 2k series this time coming with even more predatory microtransactions, glitches and bugs that have no place being in a released game in 2020, in addition load times are painful and no real rewards or incredibly slow rewards for playing the game, all aimed at getting players to spend more and more money, the one aspect of the game that works perfectly.

    Another year, another disappointing entry into the NBA2K series.

    Stick w/ 2K19 as this is definitely not worth a purchase at full retail price. Just a shame the direction this series has went in. Hopefully NBA Live continues to improve its game so maybe just maybe 2K won't be as complacent and step up and deliver a great game in this series once again.

    The badges are dumb, quick draw is such a **** badge, it is a badge that makes u shoot the ball the quicker. Flexible release should be removed because you need it in order to make full white releases. Tje servers suck, a **** ton of glitches, and horrible face scan. 2k18 had a better launch than this

    2k should have spend more time making a better game than paying of critics.
    This game is like a slap to every gamers face. 2k just showed us that no matter what we do, the cases we file to the government or get law involved. Greedy companies like EA, 2k are here to stay.

    NBA 2K20 includes fewer innovations than a "copy/paste club", yet manages to still play and feel pretty great. Gambling and microtransactions involved are becoming more and more toxic with each year tho.
