No fighting game can compare to MK for me, the characters are amazing, story is great and gameplay fantastic, my favorite fighting game franchise for sure. However wish they put out less DLC or at least made it a little less expensive.

While it is not as good as Mortal Kombat 9, it is still very well deserved sequel with great gameplay, better graphics, a fantastic story and soundtrack, and overall a worthy sequel to MK9 that is worthy as a PS4 sequel.

This game is super fun, 5050s are a bit too much.

Always hop on and enjoyed it for a long time.

But holy fxck, who tf is this crackhead Goro player called cbass slayer. Plays like a fxckin italian plumber, guy rolls his ballsack on the controller and somehow it works. Good thing I alwayd beat Exohydras bum ass son, mf has autism thinking Jason is hard Whatever

Very good and solid mk game. Gameplay is nice and fast paced, the story is great, not a big fan of the art and animation but it suffices. The final boss is so **** cool and the online was good but I remember it being very laggy at times. The factions stuff with the online was cool but wasn't needed. Overall this is a good mk game but a bit of a step back from mk9.

MK X is arguably the best entry in the series ever made. It's certainly the bloodiest and best looking of the bunch. I love each character and all the moves they are able to do. Tho the only thing I don't like about the characters is that the female characters are overly sexuallized like they were specifically designed for the male players.
The game is also easy and entertaining to play with a friend were all you really have to do is beat the second player with the moves provided with the character

I have enjoyed the series ever since the first game back in the 90;s and the latest version is really good with a lot of work on the game play and combos. The only play and towers expand the longevity There's nothing like being able to do a finisher when you win a game online,

The mechanics are a bit heavy but they are still good.
You have a lot of different variety for each fighter to try and master, amazing combos, great fatalities and X-ray combos.
    - Map design is great.
    - Multiplayer suffers from lag issues but still wroth playing.

The main bad issue here is the Story/Campaign mode:
It silly and dumb, you fight the elder god Shinnok with Casey Cage, LOL.
The whole events sound so cheap and predictable, nothing worth playing just skip the story line. but this makes the game lose some points. As a fighting game it gets a minor pass on being a bad story, but the campaign is bad and this cannot be ignored.

Overall its the best Mortal Kombat game.

Mortal Kombat X is an excellent fighting game and my favorite fighting game to date. The story is really good, but admittedly not as good or as long as the story in Mortal Kombat (2011). Netherrealm also did a great job with the new roster of characters. I can’t think of a new character that I dislike and I absolutely love some of the newer characters like Erron Black. The fatalities in this game are great, but I was surprised to learn that I actually like the brutalities much more. I loved the addition of brutalities, but it does suck that they got rid of babalities and other fun extras like that. The krypt in this game is better than it has ever been before. You can actually explore the entire krypt and visit new locations. From now on, I expect Netherrealm to keep going all out with the krypt. You wouldn't think that a developer would want to make spending your in-game credits fun. Mortal Kombat X has some flaws with it’s story, but fans of this franchise should definitely pick this game up. Expand

Story mode is great, delivering the best story so far. A shame that some characters were locked out of arcade mode and not playable even though there are clearly character models and move sets for them.

Combat is both hit and miss. On the one hand it is a very polished combat system with significant improvements from MK9. On the other hand I did not like the 3 different variations system. It would have been nice to have a base character with all moves or the ability to create your own variation with the all the moves and look you want.

DLC character packs were great. A shame there weren't more. The crypt this time round was awesome and a joy to explore.

I was a bit disappointed not to see some characters. Had hoped to see Skarlet again. I had also hoped for Nitara and Sareena (was there in a brief cameo, but I had hoped she would be playable.)

    Overall:
MKX is a worthy continuation of the franchise adding enough to still feel fresh, yet it doesn't add enough to have the same kind of impact the last game. Still, tons of fun.

    Note to developer:
One thing I do find odd, especially in this day and age, why MK franchise doesn't go completely mature. Where is the sex? Tons of blood, gore and bad language, yet you're telling me that naked slave girl/guy in background is out of place. I'm not saying make it something smutty, more like keep it real and make character motivations and actions (both conscious and subconscious) true. eg. Sonya would eye up Johnny any time his back is (more likely she wouldn't even realise she's doing it.) Mileena wearing something see-through would also be true to character. Kano would have a filthy mouth.
To be clear I'm not singling out women for this. The same should apply to male characters too.

Also, for MK XI if you are going to have guest characters, why not the movie horror legends like Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, Wolfman, etc. (would fit as they are planning on reboots for all of the in the near future.) Personally I would love to see Lady Death or Evil Ernie.

However, seeing characters like Kung Jin, Cassie Cage, Takashi Takeda, and Jacqui Briggs in the game instead of popular and fan-favorite characters like Noob Saibot, Cyrax, Sektor, Kabal, and Smoke feels wrong as they tried to hard to be different. I understand not wanting to put in all the cyborgs, but c'mon, at least one would've been nice. But the other original characters like Kotal Kahn, D'vorah, Ferra/Torr, and Erron Black are great additions to the universe. Now onto the gameplay, MKX took the classic MK gameplay and logically evolved and extended it to modern day capabilities. And the satisfaction of the bone crunching, muscle tearing, and testicle bursting x-rays are only topped by the satisfaction of seeing the screen go dark and watch as your character destroys your opponent in the even more gruesome and disgusting fatalities. The story mode is fun, imaginative, and a great way to fully grasp and introduce the characters. All in all, MKX is a welcome addition to the Mortal Kombat series that far exceeded my expectations and all I can do is thank Netherrealm and play more MKX. Expand

I used to play Mortal Kombat 2 that released in 1993 and have been in love with this game since then and I can undoubtedly say that Mortal Kombat X is the best Mortal Kombat game series.
This game has so much to offer, every character has different moves, different style, amazing fatalities, different combat experience and this time they have even introduced new characters and they completely fit it this franchise. New characters like D'vorah and Kotal Kahn are so amazing and give such a fresh look to this franchise.
But there are things that really bothers me and the first is the DLC. It so damn expensive, I mean who would pay $5 for 1 character. And in this game Goro is not there, I mean its in the Disc but if you want to play as him then you have to buy another DLC. Its really bad that you have to pay to unlock the character that is already in the disc.
Now the second thing that really bothers me is the story mode. When it starts you may think it looks amazing but after few minutes it gets so boring and makes you wanna quit the story mode. Its like first they designed the characters then the stages then they are trying to somehow fit all of that in the story.
I have the Mortal Kombat X Special Edition and expect the design of the box there is nothing special. If you buy Special Edition you can see the design that it has Scorpion on its back and that looks really amazing but with this disc, you will get a free DLC of Goro and Scorpion skin that is already available on PS Store for free so I don't get it why they put the Scorpion Skin DLC in the first place.
So the final verdict for this game is that this game should be in your shelf if you like fight style games, but if you are a kid they won't buy it because it contain really graphical fatalities that is not suitable for children.

None of the DLC is a must have anyway, but its important to remember these are merely trolls who were going to leave a low score regardless of what the product is. Its best simply to ignore them.

The gameplay is really good. Doing damage mostly relies on executing combos. The execution here is somewhat challenging, but doable with practice, and it's rewarding as hell to land 40%+ combos in an online match. All of the 29 cast members have a unique identity, and most seem to be somewhat balanced and viable in the pro scene. NRS continues to be active in patching and balancing.

The fatalities are great and the brutality system is an awesome addition that allows you to end matches with some style. NRS really went the extra mile here and gave each character two fatalities and 5+ brutalities.

I had a lot of fun just playing single player and getting some of the unlockable skins, and have played over 1000 matches online. I'm taking off 1 point since the netcode seems to have some inherent lag even when playing under near-optimal conditions, and since matchmaking can be a little wonky.

Overall, most fun I've had with a fighter in a really long time. Excited to see what NRS does next.

There are classic towers - ten fights against increasingly difficult opponents, Test Your Luck towers, my personal favourite, where every fight has random modifiers thrown in to make it more chaotic, and living towers, that change constantly as long as you have an internet connection (PS Plus isn't required here, to my knowledge). You'll also be able to join a faction. Pretty much everything you do earns points for your faction, and the faction with the most points at the end of a certain amount of time gets big rewards. If you have PS Plus, you'll get all of what you've come to expect from an online fighting game - 1v1, King of the Hill and stuff like that, along with some new game modes like online Test Your Luck. I haven't experienced much lag or any disconnects while online, but there are quite a few spammers and other unfair players that will ruin your match. As for characters, there are around 29, new and old, which doesn't seem like too many at first, but each character gets three variations, essentially tripling that number. If it still isn't enough, more can be obtained via DLC, including old favourites like Tanya, and licensed characters like Predator. Overall a great game that I'd absolutely recommend. Expand

This game is jusyt so much fun, that is playing with a friend. It has many great characters with each having there own skills (I use Kitana and Scorpion). Every character is different, and theres tons of stuff you can unlock in the game like costumes, fatalities, brutalities, and more. The story mode sucks, and the game gets boring your your playing alone, but with a friend, its so much fun

This is my 2015 GOTY. I've been a fan of this series since MK1 was still in the arcades and have owned every iteration - including the terrible PS2 saga - and couldn't be happier with this game. I can play for hours or just a few minutes depending on how busy I am - which is important as I get older.

I love the story mode. MK still has the best story and characters in the genre.

The controls are tight and this is one of the few fighting games where I am having a hard time finding a main because I like too many characters. I love playing as Mileena, Kitana, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and even Kano who is a character I never enjoyed in any MK game. The variations keep things fresh and add more decision making.

I can't wait for Kombat Pack 2 - hoping for Sindel and Rain to be added. Especially Rain - missed opportunity with such a great character costume design.

That's not to say there isn't gore, there's buckets of that, but this time it's accompanied by a well developed fighter that plays as smooth as sub zero's ice puddles. The character models and level design are all labors of love with incredible detail, and extras in this game litter the "krypt," an underground treasure hunt filled with campy jump scares.
    Some key positives:

Game play is thrilling, smooth, and fatalities/brutalities are disturbingly satisfying.

Each character has three different modes, giving the game even more depth in choice, and allowing for a learning curve that both invites novices and rewards experts.

Voice acting is also superb, taking the immersion to another level.

Old favorites (Sonya Blade, Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, etc) collide with new, well conceived challengers. There are awesome outside cameos from The Predator and Jason Vorhees, also.

Online play is smooth and engaging, the different modes give you great variety.

    Negatives:

the one GLARING negative, which cannot be overlooked, is the price gouging. To get the complete game (Tremor, Tanya, Predator, Jason) you'll be shelling out $80 or more (you may have to also pay for Goro, depending on when/where you got the game.) It looks like there are other characters on their way as well, meaning the total cost of this game could exceed $100. While I'm all for paying for good games, this just feels like pick-pocketing. It's really a shame that such insidious business practices sully an otherwise great game. I'd give it a 10/10, otherwise.

And i loved it. It didn’t take me long to find out that Netherrealm (the developers of Injustice) was making a new fighting game called Mortal Kombat X. Now at this point i had only heard of the Mortal Kombat series and all it’s blood and gore. So i just assumed that it was gonna be another “okay” fighting game. I didn’t really think much about it from there on until the reviews came out. And they were damn good and it had a metascore of over 80. So yes i bought it on sale and when it loaded up i found out that it wasn’t just another “okay fighting game”. It was a masterpiece of a fighting game where every character has three different fighting style’s. Raiden for example can switch between Teleportation, Enhanced lightning attacks or setting up lightning traps, which is just what i was looking for in a fighting game.

It is a bit sad to see that the game offers things like “30 Easy Fatality’s” for five dollars when doing fatality’s isn’t even that hard. Only Ermac’s first fatality (which is of course on of the best one’s) requires you to know how to do it or you have to buy “Easy Fatality’s”, which is definitely not fair for newcomers to fighting games. If you didn’t preorder it you also have to PAY to play as Goro, one of Mortal Kombat’s most beloved characters which is pathetic.

The season pass character DLC though is pretty solid though. They offer four characters whereas two of them are old favorites and the other two are famous movie characters, Jason Vorhees and Predator which is absolutely genius.

Overall i give this a 9,5/10 (when not counting in the whole “Pay to win” thing).

Mortal Kombat X’s story takes place 25 years after the events of Mortal Kombat 9 and introduces a new type of story not seen in the game before. It is a non-linear game, the main story taking place in the present, but with events given context through flashbacks to fill the gaps of what happened to each of the characters during those 25 years.

The new roster features eight brand spanking new characters, with a ‘main four’ who are all related to major players in the MK universe. You have Cassie Cage, daughter of Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade, Jacqui Briggs, Jax’s daughter, Takeda’s the son of Kenshi but was raised and trained by Scorpion and finally, Kung Jin, who is the cousin of Kung Lao. Easily the most diverse group of protagonists in any game of the moment! There are other new faces too, such as the badass insect queen D’Vorah and old western style sharpshooter Erron Black.

The new Variation fighting styles that come with each character is definitely an interesting little feature. I can see these styles being better utilised by more competitive players rather than more casual players such as myself, but I can already see the benefit in the styles and how it can really tailor your experience as a player. Do you like fighting at close range? Then you’ll want to look at Cassie Cage’s Brawler or Jacqui’s High Tech variation. More of a ranged player? Try out Takeda’s Lasher or Raiden’s Thunder God variation. What’s neat about each of these is that a small part of the costume changes to signify the variation you’re fighting with or against. For example, Quan Chi’s Summoner has glowing red eyes and shoulder pauldrons and Kotal Khan’s eyes and tattoos glow orange in his Sun God variation. It’s a fun thing to try out, and each variation still keeps the base move set of the character, just with new special moves to buff them up. There are also more defensive variations out there, not all just about punching, shooting or stabbing such as Ermac’s Master of Souls variation which allows him to temporarily avoid damage.

Story wise, the plot is pretty solid. It’s not mind blowing, but it’s not unsatisfying either. It clearly stands on its own two feet and with the flashbacks involved there is certainly more depth added in terms of character fluff to establish changing relationships between characters. There are some wonderful moments in the story, including old rivals coming together under a common cause and also darker moments that see old friends turn on one another. What’s great about the plot of this game, and I think this applies across NetherRealm’s last game as well, that you have a rich, lore heavy story that at the same time doesn’t actually leave you feeling lost at all. They lay it out for you in a way that makes it easy, but not just spouting out facts about the Earthrealm, Netherrealm and Outworld and their intertwining politics. For the tenth game in the series, that’s quite the challenge, but they’ve nailed it down pretty well. You won’t get any sharp plot twists or unexpected events, it’s all pretty linear but that’s absolutely fine in my opinion. It’s a game about beating the **** out of people at the end of the day, not everyone is going to be picking this game up for the plot, but it’s there if you want it.

The voice acting really varies in this game, really varies. You have some superb voice talent amongst the newcomers, D’Vorah particularly stands out for me with her unique accent and resonance to her voice. Whereas characters like Raiden and Kung Lao fall a little short. I’m not sure if it’s the voice actors fault, or the writer’s fault on that one however. You can only do so much with what you’re given to make it sound good, but some of the dialogue just feels to me like it’s come straight out of a bad martial arts movie dub at times and when you have some excellent voice acting alongside, it makes the experience a tiny bit jarring. Of course, you do have that element of cheese there as well in the classic archetypes that the old timers have, like what I like to refer to as Johnny Cage’s ‘Duff Man oooooh yeah’ (10 points if you read it in the voice) type attitude and for a game like Mortal Kombat it absolutely works, has worked in the past and will no doubt continue to keep working in the future as well.

The Living, Traditional and Online Towers are a brilliant way to burn a few hours and hone your skills. The innovative new Living Towers provide brand new and constantly cycling challenges that will constantly keep you on your toes. Not to mention the opportunity to find Secret Fights for secret achievements. You’ve also still got the Test Your Luck mode, which puts random modifiers on fights which always makes things interesting and of course the online fights as well. Online fights are something I personally steer clear of, simply because my skill level is so low compared to what I know will be waiting for me out in the big wide internet world that I’ll be torn to shreds in only a matter of seconds. I’d rather avoid that, really.

Old features return to the game that you would expect to be there, including the Krypt where you explore the dark, haunted graveyard in search of secrets and bonus features such as skins and concept artwork in exchange for Koins that you collect through playing the game and winning fights in all modes of the story. Obviously the more expensive the secret, the better it will generally be.

Over all however, the Mortal Kombat X experience is exactly what you would expect of a Mortal Kombat game. It’s face paced, fun and there’s no end to replayability as there will always be the chance to replay story mode and hit up the Towers. You’ve got plenty to play with and countless variations of characters to master. It’s a wholesome experience and definitely worth every penny

Most surprising to me was the amount of content inside the actual game itself. I REALLY liked the 3 different variations to each character and hope that this is a mainstay in the series now. It offers different ways to play each character and keeps opponents unsure of how to approach you.
this game packs everything from different match modes to chat rooms/ lobbies to adding different elements to the actual fight itself. Such as adding random lighting strikes, slowing / speeding up the fight/ Random lazer beams scrolling across the screen etc. It adds a lot more depth than I was expecting. Then there are the new characters.....Some, such as Erron Black and Ferra/Torr are just nasty...... I mean, NASTY. And some feel like they are just rekindled skins of our favorite vets. But on the whole, this is a great experience. The Krypt is always a welcome way to find unlockables and I really like how they changed the dynamic of it. Mortal Kombat X has some very solid and tight controls. It was so easy to just jump in and get into the fighting action. The moves seem a lot easier to pull off this time around. The biggest new feature is the variations system. Each character has 3 different variants, each adding different special moves and combos to their move set. For example Raiden had a variation where he can teleport, one where he has enhanced lighting powers, and one where he can set lighting traps. My only gripe with this new system, is that some characters have variations that only add one or two new moves to the equation. It's still very good though.

Of course, another good thing to look forward to is the fatalities. They are more gruesome than ever here, and may possibly be some of the best of the whole series. Some of them are pretty hard to pull off though. (I'm not going to get into all the micro transactions and abundance of DLC.) The krypt is where you can buy all the different fatalities and costumes. Instead of just a boring open field with tombstones, this is a first person puzzle segment. This can break up some monotony, and the krypt is rich with content. This has the most content of any fighting game, i can easily say.

I don't feel like getting into too much detail over the story, but i just want to say it was not as good as Injustice or MK9.

Mortal Kombat X was a very good fighting game, and i would go back to play ti anyday. 8/10

About a decade ago who remembers playing these types of games, who remembers trying to get to the final stage in the towers to unlock characters? What happen to does days? Why does everything need to be about money now.. If this game was created a decade ago, they would've done secret levels to unlock Jason, or Tanya, even predator. You'd have to work for them, not just simply buy them. But instead we have to buy them, companies just make more and more bundles, dlc, etc, for money. If they really thought about the players they would do things like before, where we would have to unlock the character and fight for them.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Do you want a good fighting game? Then Mortal Kombat X is here to give you one.
Mortal Kombat X does so many things great like:
-The Graphics are great for the 8th generation of gaming and fatalities look awesome especially Kenshi's fatality. Also the levels look awesome
-The Controls show greatness in showing that when you press a button or preform a special move it will happen.
    - Instead of the levels being there to just look pretty you can interact with items in that level
-Fighters now have three variations but sometimes this can be a downside(Read deeper for details)
    - Training rooms exist so you can sharpen up your skills against future opponents with any character of your choosing
    - Story mode is Pretty good but has a few disappointments(Again read deeper for details)

    - Lastly, There's plenty of content in this game leaving you entertained for hours a day.
Sadly every game has its flaws and this is no exception.
-Story mode leaves many things unexplained like for example: why did Johnny Cage and Sonya Blade break up? and also underwhelms that giant beast known as Ferra/Torr.
-The variations have only one flaw like only one variation for Raiden has his teleport.
    -Easy Fatalities are just...dumb.
-Faction mode has some dead factions like the special forces faction which should be fixed.
-"Unlock everything in the Krypt" Shouldn't exist like...really.
    - WHATS WITH ALL THE DLC? are our future games just DLC hubs?
-(This is actually a thing AngryJoe addressed)Goro is actually on the disc you buy in the game(Which should make him playable) but you still need to pay five whole dollars for it....GG.
    - Lastly, I have to play a HORRIBLE pay to win version of the game on mobile to unlock stuff? Ultra fail.

I enjoy the occasional fighting game but am by no means a fighting title fanatic. I spent over 20 hours playing the first week it was released and I have a wife and three kids =-0. The reason I only gave it an 8/10 is because it is like a mirror image of its predecessor. The story and some slight mechanics tweaks are the only differences and lets be honest not many people buy Mortal Kombat for the story mode. That makes the differences practically invisible and even many of the X-rays are so similar they started out boring because I have seen them many times in the previous title.

Now that I've said that I'll explain why I love Mortal Kombat X. The clans, living towers, custom multiplayer matches, and profile bonuses based on your portrait, emblem, etc. Ranking up and supporting your clan keeps me playing for hours feeling like their is a point. The steady changing of the living towers for the hourly, daily, and weekly towers keep it fresh and provide players with a reason to keep playing months after release. The new match conditions are fun and entertaining with friends and provide hours of fun matchmaking that feels fresh for a long time because of the wide variety of match conditions that can be set. Overall the game could have tried harder to be more original but still offers enough new content to be a great title.

I never experience a Mortal Kombat game like this. I can feel the X-rays and the fatalities more then I did in the previous installment. The graphics do look better which is something I did expected but the levels and character design are nearly flawless.

My only gripe with this game is how the combo layout is a bit harder to pull off compare to MK9 so I played as less of the characters because everyone do play differently, also unlocking the costumes is not that fair some I have to play it online to get them but I dont want to pay to play it online so Im still stuck with a few costumes unlockable.

My last gripe is unlocking everything in the Krypt can take you forever. I remember how quickly I unlocked everything in MK9 and got more coins but NetherRealm wants you to pay them the $19.99 to unlock everyhing but anyways I dont really care about unlocking everything.

I did got the Kombat Pack DLC so I am a bit pissed that every 4 characters I have to wait for a while for each of them to be release but they should of told the fans that not all 4 characters isn't ready yet.

Overall the Story mode has been approved even in one sitting, I beat it. That got me very shocked that I beat the story mode in less then 4 hours in Medium mode. I do like a lot of the backstory for each of the new characters. I wish their was more about Erron Black which hes my favorite so far.

What stands out the most here is attention to detail. From each character having specific dialogue catered to their opponent (mirror match introductions are often hilarious), to the insane level of gore that gamer's have come to expect from the franchise, its all represented in style and a certain fluidity that is lost on many developers. PACKED with extras and unlockables (the most I have seen in ANY game of recent memory) as well as several variations on traditional Kombat game styles. KOTH and 5v5's are a couple of examples, with little touches like stage effects (low gravity, minimized arena, random ice missiles, etc...) if you wanted to play 100 matches between two characters you could with no two matches having the same win conditions/arena conditions. Add in an extra level of customization via character sub-sets (all 24 standard characters have 3 different styles a piece) and what you get is probably the most polished and balanced fighting game in years.

9/10, pick it up if you are or have ever been a fan of the series. I lost interest a loooooong time ago, and NetherRealms has rekindled that flame with a solid "Injustice"-esque entry for current gen.

Every bone crunch and disembowelment sounds and goods great thanks to 60FPS and a great audio. The 60 FPS may not seem like a bit deal but it helps extremely with hit boxes and how smooth the characters control. Most the characters are evenly matched with a few that stand out that could use some changes. Online matches sadly usually consist of Schorpion fights but if you know your character enough you can put up a fight.
The amount of characters they give you to choose from is quite nice as well, with the attention of quite a few new fighters and more in DLC on the way. The new characters breath some fresh air into the fights and have very original designs and fighting styles.
Story mode has a great plot to it and has you play through with multiple characters so you get to give them all a bit of a try. Now that's fun for the first bit but once you get to the more difficult fights and are stuck playing a character you may dislike or have trouble playing the game becomes extremely frustrating and not to fun. At least the towers from previous games are back so you can challenge yourself with your favorite character. The ability to unlock new Fatalities/Costumes/X-rays is also a great idea and kept me going back to spend my "Koins" on new stuff.
If you were a fan of the old MK games or have a next gen gen system and looking to beat up your friends, MKX is a great and fun way to do so.

Fighting-wise it seems to be like the old Tekken games. One button for each hand one button for each leg. X-ray attacks look awesome. Some of the fatalities are incredible. Brutalities are back and are a lot of fun.

Online play seems to be hit or miss. I'm wireless and haven't have any connectivity issues, but opponent quality is all over the place. The 5 factions for online play are a good idea in practice but don't seem to be great in reality because so many people just pick the same one or two. The "Faction Kill" fatalities that are introduced are mostly mediocre.

Story-wise, you can beat the story in a couple hours, but it is really well-done. Good cinematics, and a good way to learn how to use some of the new characters as well as to play some of the older characters.

The re-done Krypt is awesome and worth exploring for unlockables and there are a few surprises in it to keep you paying attention.

Overall the game is awesome, plays great, good level interaction in every stage. My only real issue with it is several characters who are in 9, living or dead don't make an appearance outside of NPC status in the story or as opponents in the story and will likely be pay-to-play at some point. Some of my favorite characters are unplayable because of this. There's really no real reason to do that besides a money-grab. AI seems to be VERY noticeably different on each difficulty (stick to medium if you're average), and the final boss in the storymode's ending and at the end of the Klassic Tower is a little overpowered but not to the point where it's unbeatable, you just have to be smart.

    The Good:
-Unbelievable visuals/animations. Fatalities, Brutalities, and Faction Kills look better than ever.
-New Krypt layout is a surprisingly fun way to spend koins and gain access to the unlockables
-Fun story mode with an average storyline (remember people, this is a fighting game. A story mode is a bonus)
-A large variety in content that will keep people coming back.

    The Bad:
-Netcode can be shaky at times, which will cause severe input lag and virtually makes a match unplayable. This has been improved with the latest update and doesn't happen nearly as often (for me at least)
-The uppercut is way to powerful of an attack for something that is one input (even by MK standards). It currently is a 14% hit that is hardly punishable due to the quick recovery and push back on block. Not a huge gripe but it is a very, very damaging move that is easily done.

    The Ugly:
-Currently this game doesn't have anything that is game breaking or bad enough to harm anybody's experience with the game.

Currently this is the best fighting game on the market for ps4 and even though it isn't 100% perfect, it is an awesome game to play.

    **Edit**
I find it absolutely comical how people can rate this game under a 3 only because of the DLC that is offered. If it's something that bothers you, THEN DON'T BUY IT. None of the DLC that is offered is game breaking or puts players in any sort of advantage. It's additional content. ADDITIONAL. The new 'cool' thing to do is slam games for offering DLC at launch or at specific intervals throughout the games lifecycle. It does not detract from the gameplay in any way what so ever. The game is still an excellent fighting game.

Long story short: the reason why the majority of new games offer so much DLC is because people will dish out the cash to buy it. If you don't want it, or disagree with the principal, don't buy the content. Stop with the BS and actually review the game for what it is.

    The bad:

    Review:
I should preface this by saying that I have not played a Mortal Kombat game since the SNES-days, and probably haven't touched a fighter in about as long either. So I was somewhat surprised that I enjoyed Mortal Kombat X as much as I did.

The graphics are very good and the frame rate is stable with the exception of a few times during cut-scenes in the story mode. The fighting is crisp and fluid with a lot of depth concerning positioning, reach of the characters and their moves and what not. I did have some trouble nailing combos at first until I found a setting under options called "negative edge" and turned it off, after that it went much smoother.

The story, script and even voice acting is surprisingly engaging, especially if you are familiar with the characters. While not achieving greatness on any level it is decidedly more than I expected considering the amount of people who can be expected to buy a Mortal Kombat game for the story (probably somewhere between none at all and 0%). The banter between the fighters at the start of a match is also often times witty.

There are a large heap of different game modes (both offline and online as well as vs humans or AI). Aside from the story mode and the standard versus modes there are standard towers (fight different enemies on the way to the top), living towers (towers that change hourly, daily or weekly), test your luck (where you play with different kinds of randomized modifiers), test your might (where you buttonmash to break objects), Faction Wars (where you declare for a faction and then collect points and fight on behalf of that faction), the exploratory Krypt (where you unlock skins and finishing moves and more) and an extensive training mode. And I cant swear that I didn't forget one or two in that list. There are also close to thirty characters with each of them having three different variations.

In short; there is A LOT of content in this game. But it is of course all of it dependent on you liking the basic premise: fighting games with gratuitous violence. Speaking of the violence is as over the top as ever, often times approaching almost comical heights of depravity.

On the negative side I did have some connectivity issues early on after release, but they seem to have subsided with the few patches since released. There is also A LOT of content to unlock, maybe too much, and some micro transactions or DLC if you cant be bothered to work for it. None of it matters from a balance perspective however; it is all cosmetic with the exception of the release of new characters in coming DLC:s.

    Verdict: 9/10

For instance, I frequently see people saying that the story doesn't make sense. That'd dumb. of course it does. It's not even complicated. It just features a lot of characters that the game doesn't introduce. It assumes you to already be familiar with all the characters. My favorite was kustom kombat not only for chaos such as quadruple fire missile matches but the modifiers can help even the playing field if you have a friend that is either way worse or better than you.

If you played the last one, this one should be easy to learn. Now there is just stuff such as variations which are a bit hit and miss. Some are blatantly better than others which really makes the three for each character redundant. Your goal if you want to succeed is utilize all your abilities to juggle opponents into brutal combos and prevent them from doing the same. Easy to learn, impossible to master.

I also wasn't a fan of the factions. The game introduces you to all five of the factions as soon as you start the game and you get to choose which one you'd like to be a part of. The problem is that the war between them just doesn't seem like a fair fight. You just can't pit all the Sub-Zero fans against all the Kano fans and expect the latter to stand a chance. If your faction is severely outnumbered(like mine,Special Forces represent) there really is no point to even trying against the larger ones. I'd prefer something such as comparing the factions' collective online W/L ratio, that way a couple high level players can win against a thousand button mashers. Other than some cosmetic unlockables, that is all the factions have.

Fatalities are back and better than ever. All the imagination that went into these is way too much and that's why it's glorious. Next gen adds some more realism with twitching eyes and eyes rolling back into heads. Gross.

With several small downgrades littered throughout the place, shorter story, smaller roster, etc. No honest person can say this is a completely upgraded sequel. However, it is a better game in general and it has gallons of blood on offer to those fortunate enough to play.

Great graphics, cool character design, core gameplay is very good.

Annoying DLC advertising on the home screen, DLC is overpriced.

As in MK9, the Krypt has to be navigated with a cheat map or you risk wasting your hard earned Kredits on a level soundtrack or concept art for the practice level.
