I just played the ME1 through in a ps4 legendary edition and went to me2.

Limited ammo. Freaking limited ammo, in the world that invented a mass effect technology, which made limited ammo literally obsolete. It's like shooting flintlock riffle after an automatic. And when the gun is out of ammo("heatsinks")? Yo guess it it stops shooting.

I never played Mass effect, and I tried in this new edition. It was the best game I played this year. I was addicted from the start. I did not have any bug which it means they took their time to fix everything and the DLC were great as well. But I confess the best is mass effect 2, the renegate options are more fun than for the 1 or 3 games. Also the interaction with characters is the best.

Vanguard in Legendary edition is very limited and so are skills and weapons to choose from.
Playing the original trilogy feels indeed that the games are older (mechanics, combat, skills, facial and moving animations) but I am playing it because of good sci-fi story.

The graphics with the remaster is decent. It is fun, overhyped, but fun.

The story and characters are best in Mass Effect 2.
The combat is best in Mass Effect 3.

I am enjoying the good galaxy story.

Overall this is a great way to experience this masterpiece of a franchise. It isn't perfect tho, during my playthrough of ME1 I experienced quite a few bugs which is something that had never happened to me in the past - even game breaking ones. ME2 fared much better but still had awkward graphical hiccups and the same goes for ME3. Would have been nice for this to have been a bit more polished since it obviously needs some patches but even in this state I'd call it the best way to play gaming's greatest trilogy.

This is not only interesting from a gaming perspective but also from a game history perspective. Bioware's greatest achievement is back for us to appreciate in 2021, an era that is so unparalleled in its creative bankruptcy that nostalgia is the only legitimate currency.

So let's get nostalgic for three chapters of a saga that initiated in the mid to late 2000s, the era of the iPod and the first iPhone, where MySpace was still more popular than Facebook, and people were queuing up at brick and mortar bookstores to buy the last Harry Potter novel. It was a very different age in many ways.

Bioware{s Mass Effect was highly regarded when it was released in 2007, and rightfully so. It was an ambitious title, limited only by the technology of the day. A wildly imaginative space opera, filled with incredible lore, beautifully realized characters and wonderful writing. The gameplay was good enough, but the game design and world-building set it apart from anything we had seen before. Characters like Garrus and Liara would become as iconic as any characters in the pantheon of science fiction. The Normandy would become as well-known as the Enterprise. Shepard as admired as Kirk.

With a sure-fire hit on their hands, the company put everything they had into the next installment. Mass Effect 2 is that rare and precious commodity, a sequel that takes the best of its predecessor and elevates it to legendary status. An incredible achievement. Sadly at the time, to get the most out of it, you were forced to buy the DLC, so that you could reunite with Liara and enjoy some of the most thrilling storylines in the saga. Fortunately, all that DLC is included in the Legendary Edition package on PS4.

This was 2010, and across the board, film, TV and video games were reaching a creative apex. With the massive success of Mass Effect 2, the developers were left with the daunting task of finishing what they had started. Released in 2012, Mass Effect 3 perhaps suffers from being a little unfocused and slightly underwhelming in its final act. I have seen three of the possible endings to the game and I'm afraid none of them quite had the impact I was hoping for. There's still plenty to recommend, though, with dozens of weapons to chose from, lots of varied missions, unexpected shipmates, old friends, and new enemies.

The most impressive aspect of Mass Effect is how relationships, dialog choices and actions transfer from one game to the other. This is the first time I've been able to play all three games in the correct order, and it's incredible how the effect of choices made in the first and second games ripples through to the final game. It is quite awe inspiring at times.

I've really enjoyed rediscovering these games and appreciating their greatness. We'll never see the like of them again. There's a passion to them that is highly unlikely to be replicated in the corporate climate that we find ourselves in today. I'm grateful that they have only updated textures and refined a few minor things for modern hardware rather than edit or modify the games in any negative way. Mass Effect Legendary Edition remains a true snapshot of a golden age of game development, a testament to real creativity and raw talent, and that alone is worth the asking price.

It started off okay but kept on getting better over time. I did all the side quests, most tbh were a chore to get through apart from the DLC one. Your best option is to skip those but I wanted to try it anyway.

I played with Wrex and Liara the entire way, was probably the best option as Wrex and the Krogan seemed like the most interesting and tragic race, and Wrex’s clash in Virmir was solid. Liara was solid too with her knowledge of the Protheans, which is useful in Ilos.

The lore and story behind Reapers vs Protheans were solid too. Nice twist with Citadel being a relay. Saren by the end was pretty compelling too, he saw himself as the hero, and he felt justified to help the reapers, so that Organics may survive, but by the end you realise he's been indoctrinated.

I played the game for 30 hours, it might have paced better at 20 hours. The graphics and animations don't age well at all, pretty bad for its time too tbh. Sometimes the animations and movements of characters in this game are soo bad that it's funny. Voice acting can get rough at times. But for other characters like Wrex and Saren, their voice acting is good. The game needs a lot more quality-of-life improvements:
    - You can't see what you did on a planet until you land.
    - After you complete a planet, it should tell you if you did so and if there are any missing objectives I could still do.
    - Icons on the map and inconsistent too. Sometimes an x means you did the objective while other times it's a point of interest.

But it's compensated with its compelling way of telling the story in main missions and giving you pivotal decisions to make. Also, its worldbuilding of the different races was spot on.

    Mass Effect 2 - 7/10
Mass Effect 1 to me was better. The only solid loyalty missions were Mordin’s and Grunt’s.

    Loyalty Mission Reviews
    Grunt - 9/10
I already found Krogans really interesting so seeing their homeworld tuchanka I knew was gonna be fun. Seeing Wrex, the shaman and others react to Grunts predicament created amazing dialogue exchanges. Krogans, especially Wrex and Grunt are Peak in Mass Effect!
    Mordin - 8/10
There was a pretty good debate between Shepherd and Mordin. Normally Shepherd is more passive but this time he felt like he had a strong stance and so did Mordin, leading to clashing ideals. Seeing the ramifications of the Genophage and seeing Mordin still try to rationalise it was compelling.
But then Mordins student was a direct foil to Mordin, and I loved it! He had way better counterpoints than Shephard. The exchange was very grey, where honestly it looked like the student was the good guy, even though the testing method was questionable.
    Garrus - 7/10
His was good cuz I saved Solidus. Not too sure if it would have been good otherwise, I exhausted all dialogue to the point it subverted expectations where Solidus was a good guy.
    Liara - 7/10
The Shadow Broker was anticlimactic. But the DLC improves when Shepherd vents his frustration to Liara on Normandy.
    Miranda - 7/10
Solid mission with sweet ending of savings Mirandas sis.
    Samara - 7/10
Gameplay was fun, at least it wasn't just a shooter or trailing mission.
    Kasumi - 6/10
Really nice and short mission. Didn't expect a stealth infiltration mission in ME. But I couldn't care less about Kasumi.
    Jacob - 6/10
Would have been better if we knew more concretely what his dad was thinking.
    Jack - 6/10
    Pretty predictable. Nothing interesting.
    Thane - 5/10
The kid and his issues towards his father were not developed enough. The tailing mission gameplay was boring and basic. Disappointing since Thane seemed pretty interesting. Especially his 1-to-1s, those are really damn good.
    Zaed - 5/10
I don't even know the guy lol. The revenge plot with Garrus was done better.
    Tali - 5/10
Boring characters and dialogue before boarding Aleria. Tali's dad being the culprit was very predictable.

I don't know why this one is highly regarded, not much of a suicide mission if everyone lives, plus it was just 3 short submissions and the final boss was dull. ME1 lore about Saren, Protheans and Reapers was more compelling than ME2’s collectors being Prothean. Plus all we really learned is that Harbinger is coming by the end. Nothing I did felt like it really mattered tbh.

    ME3 - 7/10
ME3 somehow is even more linear than ME2. The ending of the synthesis of organics and robots was goofy. But the other endings were not any better. At least they had the Genophage cure in this game. The sequences for that were top-tier. But then it was taken over by the Qurain storyline which was not even nearly as good.

    Trilogy
Not too sure why anyone would say this is a masterclass of storytelling. It does have high peaks but also has very low and persistent peaks too. Your best off watching Dr Who instead.

Very frustrating you need to manually guess where to go next using the journal and that the game doesn’t indicate where to go to next on these mazes of space ships. Did they pay for good ratings on this game ? It is no way near an 86 !!!! I gave up and am returning

Beautiful game, so many choices, the script is just amazing. You’re getting really attached to Shepard and the other crew member, they all have theirs own characters and personality and each relationship is so different.
It’s a classic, I definitely recommend this game.

The greatest video game trilogy in one title. Had to subtract one point for leaving out multiplayer but gave a point back for the sheer volume of great content!

Maybe skip Mass effect 1 and use the interactive comic.

8/10. As a player of the original trilogy, I had to give this edition a try. And I loved it. Everything has improved, ME1 combat feels more adequate... although the maps clearly haven't been designed with the ME2/ME3 style of combat in mind. The UI itself was redesigned as well, but there are significant differences between the 3 games; I honestly expected it to be merged together somehow.8/10. I do understand the difficulties of doing this, considered how the original trilogy itself has improved from one game to the other. All in all, this game is a solid 8. However, I'm giving it top score to counter balance the rusky crybabies that are giving it a 0 because they don't like the voice overs. Get yourselves an education and play with english audio and subtitles. Who gives a 0 because of that? Oh right, rusky crybabies. Expand

ME legendary edition gets an 8 for the nostalgia factor, its a decent compilation of the ME trilogy with slightly upgraded graphics, and retains most of the elements that made ME, a favorite for single player games. Except for the censorship, yes -1 for the censorship that is not even obscene, music videos can show artists excessively twerking and song lyrics contain profane and obscene words, but a butt shot in a videogame gets censored, WTH?

Update: Got the platinum trophy and finished the whole trilogy at insanity difficulty, story-wise and gameplay, ME2 is still tops, but graphically ME3 just looks superb on the PS4. The ME3 DLC character made the ME3 experience much better, story-wise, and the finale was better executed with Legendary edition.

Hello, I found my copy of Mass Effect for the 360 (Platinum Hits) in a Wal-Mart and at $17, I had already bought ME2 and I wanted to experience the full package the first time and I loved it. Then I played ME2 and my expectations were high for the third game and they almost got true.
The Legendary Edition brought back massive memories of the locations and various characters but it reminded me of the story faults: in ME1 (which is were 90% of the work went into) qe get to choose who to save on Virmire (Ashley or Kaidan) but in ME2 there is still only one cameo scene with them and a letter if they were your Love Interest only to have a bullrushed development in ME3 without much player feedback afterwards. Bioware didn't even bothered to list the death of Emily Wong and hence you'll have to explore Twitter for why she wasn't in ME3, Corporal Tombs MIA, a big number of bugs both bew and from the original releases are in the game and Bioware hasn't bothered to keep up woth maintenance, they might be reading our comments requesting official support but there hasn't even been a social media post by Bioware if thwy are tracking the situation or they will be moving to the next game completly and another thing, in the original ME2 players could pursue a Romantic relationship and earn the Paramour Trophy after the Collectors Base assault but now all it happens is that the screen turns to black:

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mass Effect will go down in history as one of the best told stories in gaming. Gaming fits right between film and literature in terms of deliverable exposition and with the Legendary Edition including all DLC’s as well as an expanded ending, players can truly immerse themselves in this deep and beautiful narrative. Characters are both interesting on a surface level and profound in their respective backstories and motivations. The universe it takes place in is rich and worth looking under every rock. Every visual seems completely intentional with how it fits in the world. Dialogue is well written and performances are gripping. The freedom of choice offers different perspective and experience but it never takes away from the writer’s direction. Gameplay evolves each game while also having its own charm and intricacies to be discovered as you move between them. Specifically with combat, it feels like every aspect was carefully tuned to make sure the players experience remained both fun and engaging. It rewards skill and creativity with preferred builds. Sound design is incredible. Everything hits hard where it needs to and adds a subtle touch where it doesn’t. Gun sounds are pounding and unique. Ambience is perfectly immersive. Music is iconic. Themes will grip your heart and stay stuck in your head. Expand

If you (like me) never played and finished these games, this is definitely the best way to experience them now. All DLCs included + resolution bump + gameplay changes that make the 1st game less janky is enough to justify this remaster. It isn't perfect, though. The 1st game still has some jank and stutters here and there (i blame Unreal Engine) and some audio glitches (like voices been cut off before the character can finish their sentence) are a few examples i can give as a con for this game, but is it game breaking? Not at all. I recommend buying this trilogy instead of the original 3, you'll save a lot of money by doing so.

Also, a side note regarding all these negative reviews: this is not a place to vent your frustration about a missing feature or something that you don't like. This game isn't a broken mess, it runs well and it isn't a cash grab. Rating the game 0 or 1 out of 10 just because you can't change VOs or because your language isn't available in the game is not only a childish behavior but also can lead less informed people (but people that don't mind playing game with X Voice Over or english subs) to think somehow that this game is broken or something, which isn't true at all. So you're better off voicing your concerns over EA's forum, not here. And for my fellow brazilians that are complaining about the lack of portuguese subtitles in these games, all i gotta say is: stop being lazy, pay for some decent english classes because that's the kind of knowledge that will stay with you forever. Burst the bubble of your ignorance.

Many people didn't even get the game in their language and I don't see them complaining about it... Grow up.

I went in knowing that Mass Effect 1 would be the "roughest" -- the story more than made up for the clunky and aged mechanics. It is wise to be aware of the relative age of the first entry before jumping in. It's worth playing through to fully enjoy the story in the other entries, but it is not the best experience gameplay-wise.

I played on PS4 Pro and enjoyed both the 1440p60fps and 4k30fps modes. Kept switching back and forth but ultimately kept the 4k resolution. High frames is smooth but you don't notice it much after you play on 30fps after awhile, only right after you switch. ME3 was pretty so ultimately kept it at 4k30fps. From its lore-intensive beginning to its frenetic action-oriented sequels, Mass Effect is arguably the defining sci-fi experience of the last couple of decades in gaming. Characters shine with crackling chemistry and player choices add the desired flavour to the epic space opera. Monumental stakes and uplifting themes create a strong canvas for the gorgeous vistas and unique races the series creates. Sadly, all that fantastic force is undermined by an ending that renders every player choice moot and betrays the core plot with odd choices. It takes a while to lose, but I was left with a bitter, unsatisfying taste after what's largely been one of the most delicious RPGs.

    Cons
    - missing the ME3 multiplayer
    - will always feel better on pc due to the limited number of abilities you can quick use on the controller

For about seven years, the Mass Effect trilogy was my favorite series of all time. As a space opera of truly epic proportions, the trilogy has its ups and downs, but as a whole, is one of the best series ever made.

The original Mass Effect had a task of introducing a new universe filled with opportunities to the players. And it understood the assignment perfectly. Within a couple of hours, you have interacted with every race occupying the known universe. You are given quests to deal with some of their problems, giving you more insight on their culture. It feels very natural.

For the main story, you become a special agent for the government and you are sent to hunt another of your kind. Getting to visit a world after world, resulting in you being even more grounded in the reality of this universe. This game features one of my favorite villain speeches as well as one of the most iconic decisions in gaming. The main story ends in a perfect crescendo that sends you off to the next game.

Mass Effect 2 had the hard time of following one of the most competent introductions ever made. And it succeeded with flying colors. Dropping the stiffer combat from the first game, every action you take feels a lot more fluid. The rework of abilities makes them feel more active and fun to use (Biotic Charge being my all time favorite Mass Effect ability).

The main story of Mass Effect 2 is kinda meh. The very beginning and the final Suicide Mission are some of the most iconic moments of the series, but between that, the other main missions are kind of generic. What saves the storytelling hard, is the fabulous side content with the main cast of characters. The loyalty missions are some of the most fun content, giving you more time to fall in love with all the characters on your ship. Also some of the best stories found are in the included DLC packs like Overlord, Lair of the Shadow Broker and Arrival.

Then comes Mass Effect 3. Ok, to say this game was a little controversial is one of the biggest understatements you could make. The ending of this game is one of the most reviled things in gaming history, by people who only consider a plot thread ended, if it appeared in the final cutscene. To me, this whole game felt like an ending that tied the story throughout its entire run time.

If people want to act like this game is worthless over a final cutscene, then they are willfully ignoring some of the best moments the series ever had. The Genophage decision is one of the most multi-faceted decisions in the series, taking in account a spider web of decisions made in the previous games. The solution to the Geth-Quarian conflict is one of the most epic moments within the entire series. Thessia truly shows the desperation in what you are facing. The only thing I will give to the people who needlessly hate this game, Kai Leng, is the lamest weeaboo insert I have seen in gaming.

Where Mass Effect 3 also shines is the combat. By taking what ME2 introduced and polishing it to its final form, Mass Effect 3 has undeniably the best gameplay in the series, allowing for fast and fluid combat that will never bore you.

In conclusion, each game in the series offers something slightly different, while keeping with the main theme of the story. You come to Mass Effect for the best main story in the series. You come to Mass Effect 2 for the best cast and side content. And you come to Mass Effect 3 for the best gameplay and for some of the most iconic moments within the series. What a fantastic series that everyone should experience.

I can confidently say that this is the best sci-fi rpg game I have ever played as well as being one of my favorite games. Ah as for the protagonist, Shepard in fact, from the first minutes of the game it is possible to notice how much personality he is able to convey. Yet over the course of the entire game it will be up to the player to decide how Shepard will evolve: whether an incorruptible paladin of the galaxy, willing and good, or whether to make him hungry for greed and characterize him with an icy ruthlessness. So yes, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a must have for anyone looking for a story that can capture you deeply and always have a place in their heart. Expand

Masterpiece trilogy. The feeling of being a space ship's captain cannot be conveyed better than through Mass Effect. From the compelling story to the mysterious and yet terrifying great enemies you have to face to save the galaxy, you really feel like a true hero.

Life is too short to replay games and I never do that. BUT - This is the only game I have replayed and spent over 100 hours doing so this is a by far one of my favorite games of all time. I love the adventure and the story this will be a 10 out of 10 for me.

My Only Hope especially after the latest teaser, is to somehow get each and every member back and go through an Unforgettable journey through the galaxy without any major threat. I want my Shepard to be back, and all my favorite characters of course. Perhaps one day we will see another great trilogy, and Mass Effect will forever remain the best on my list! Thank you developers you deserve very big praise Expand

I've played through the trilogy four times over the years and now a fifth time as Legendary Edition. The best story game I've ever played. Unfortunately, even though it has been revised, the first part of the trilogy in particular seems very outdated. The overall gaming experience makes up for it though. Parts 2 and 3 still look pretty good though. A fantastic game. I'm already lookingI've played through the trilogy four times over the years and now a fifth time as Legendary Edition. Big Mass Effect fan. Can't stress Mass Effect enough, because 2 & 3 have been and remain utter garbage, an insult even to the core fans of the franchise and BioWare itself. The fact that I paid $70 on release for them to simply update graphics, and have them not even take the time to fix known bugs is shame-worthy and a bit of a disgrace, as well as a nail in the coffin, of what that wasBig Mass Effect fan. If you have never played the franchise, which you should at least entertain, I suggest either buying this on-sale, dramatically, or waiting for a re-release of Mass Effect (1) alone. Don't play Andromeda, and don't even bother playing the sequels. Trust me.

Mass Effect: Legendary Edition offers the comprehensive experience that the whole trilogy rightfully deserves. Thanks to this, you can easily forgive it all sorts of small ailments associated with the age of individual parts and you drown dozens of unforgettable hours in the game without blinking an eye. Yes, even after such a long time.

The Mass Effect Trilogy is incredible. The overarching story and its characters are excellent, and each one was better than the last. I wasn’t sure if these games would hold up in the current environment, but they absolutely do. They’re still worth playing, I recommend them, and to anyone about to jump in — play at a slower pace. Do not rush through. Explore everything they have to offer and relish in their richness.

No fan of Star-Trek-style science fiction should miss Mass Effect – and this package offers the best version of the trilogy currently available. [Issue#3, p.144]
