Update: After dropping support for this game within 6 months of release for an even worse game, Anthem cough cough, that they also gave up on review went down. The game really suffers by being developed by a c team with no fault of the people who worked on the actual game, but the bugs and incomplete tweaking of things that never happened really makes the game suffer. And it's unfortunate.

The outlines of the general plot and the setting are not bad at all, quite the contrary actually, however, whoever is responsible for writing the characters and their dialogues must've been taking huge dumps while doing so, because that's what the characters are — absolute shyt. Ryder is a spineless overgrown teenager whom (to whom! and your goddamn father…) most of his/her crew disrespect all the time. Tempest feels more like a freakshow whose members could use some time in the brig than a ship. At least Suvi can always "peck up something" for "Raider".

Another big issue is the facial animations or rather the lack thereof. I like to think the people got some Frostbite from the 600 years spent in cryo pods, and now their faces are tired from dealing with everything! Given that characters' lines won't make you laugh, the horrible animations is sadly the only thing that will.

The dialogue options don't seem to affect your game. You can only choose between being a whimp and, well, being a whimp with some extra cringe.

Also, why does every female krogan sound like a gay man?

The environments look great and the gameplay is pretty decent (not clunky like in the trilogy), which is a shame, as this shows the game had some potential. But unfortunately, some writer decided that only the most obnoxious people boarded the Andromeda Initiative ships…

However, the game managed to keep me entertained for a few hours despite the big minuses. With a few exceptions, however, I was rushing the main storyline. I didn't want to sacrifice more hours to this game than was absolutely necessary.

Yes it is different from ME 1-3, but different doesn't mean bad. I like their new approach - exploring and colonize a new galaxy. The story was quite okay and I very much liked the idea of making a planet inhabitable again. I really grew close to the characters especially Drack, Jaal, PeeBee and Cora. The jetbag is a good improvement. On the bad side one must mention the (after years of time for improvements) still aweful looking facial animations. Especially the eye movement is it what ruins their expressions. The dialogues are often very weird and sometimes super creepy when flirting. There is too less main content and too much go-there-and-do-this-really-uninteresting-thing sidequests. It's a pity they didn't include a day-night cycle for the planets. Plants and other ornamental objects mostly have no physical structure you can touch, you slide right trough them like a ghost (I remember Mass Effect 2 already had a bump-into-things mechanic). Generelly the main character never touches things when you interact with something, he just taps on his multitool - this is lazy programming. Not to mention the huge amount of bugs and even some game crashes, I played this game 2021 on a PS5 - I am scared to think about how it must have been at realese date. EA really messed this up as usual but I love the Mass Effect universe so much that it was enough to like the game. In total I enjoyed playing and I think a Part 2 really could save this story. There are so many open questions I want a answer to: Where comes the Scourge from? Who killed Jien Garson and why? Will Tann try to become a autocratic ruler? Expand

I've played this game several years after the premiere and unfortunately this is not the mass effect I remembered. The maps are vast with many points you just want to explore, but usually there is nothing interesting. The story is not that epic that made me leave this game after ~10 hours of playing, while other games from the series I finished several times.

Is it the weakest in the series? Yes. Is it a letdown after 5 years of waiting? Yea kinda. Is it still a good game though? Debatable but I think so. Graphics are still good, and BioWare fixed a lot of the bugs (and faces) that were plaguing this game at launch. Plus the combat is the best in the series HANDS DOWN. Starting with the characters, they are far worse than the characters of the original trilogy, way less memorable, some of them annoying and pointless to the story. Your crew (and other characters as well) is just a world's 'cultural' parade. Being a tanned, redhead, religious, lesbian scientist with Finnish name, Arabic surname and super thick Scottish accent will not make you an interesting character! The poor voice acting of Ryder, the protagonist, finishes the remains of the characters' hypothetical charm. Also, a 'Slavic' character speaks C2 English with thick-ašš "Russian" accent while pronouncing his name completely wrong. I'm tipping my hat.
Secondly, the graphics. They're fine but what's wrong with the faces! They look terrible and completely soulless like in many Frostbite games. What's worse, it's their face expressions and eye movement. Taken straight from the PS2 era.
Thirdly, the AI and combat are totally broken. It's just unloading clips and spamming super powers to finally kill those dumb enemies.
Andromeda follows up to M3's trend - decisions don't affect the story. Nevertheless, the story itself isn't that bad. The missions and bossfights keep repeating. At least the levels are much bigger than in the older games.
I'm a Mass Effect fan and I can say with a clear conscience this the worst Mass Effect game.
I, somehow, drowned 50 hours in this game. It kept me playing, worked on stable fps but I feel like 7/10 is rather a very generous score.

The saddest thing is the lack of diversity in the planets. It feels like most of them are just some variation of 'desert', and I don't think it started like that, looking at concept art.
Just as bland are the companions, with most of them just being the bargain bin versions of the OT characters. The romances are equally disappointing. A couple of them have some nice scenes, but nothing on the level of other recent Bioware romances.
The game play is fine. Just fine. But I can't get over the fact that a game about space exploration has so little to explore.
The main story is incredibly shallow and you've seen it all before (in the other ME games!). Near the end they hint at some bigger things to happen (one hidden behind a boring collection quest), but those teases are left for a sequel I don't see happening.
Besides these issues, it's painfully obvious this game needed more time or better leadership. From things like the asari all having the same face, to the lack of a personality for Ryder, to the state this game was launched in, all make it clear Bioware was rushing near the end.

All in all I can't say I had NO fun with this game, but I couldn't be bothered to replay it and that's never happened to me before with a Bioware game.

This was the last thing Bioware needed after the divisive reception of Mass Effect 3. It was a game that was looking to make good on the original vision of the first Mass Effect game, running on cutting-edge new technology, and featuring a whole new cast of characters for players to potentially fall in love with. Despite having some genuinely good ideas and moments, it does not live up to the standards set by the original trilogy. A lot of this game's issues can be explained by its hellish development cycle, but it doesn't help make the game rise any further than average.

ME: A's biggest problem lies within its story and characters. A large scale number of humans travel all the way to the Andromeda galaxy, only to discover that their potential new homes are under the threat of a race of beings called the Kett. As Ryder, you set out to explore the galaxy with a rag-tag group of misfits to create habitable new worlds for people to colonize while also dealing with this new threat. It's story overall feels like a retread of the original Mass Effect, complete with similar plot points, cast of characters and a heavily predictable twist ripped straight out of Mass Effect 2. It makes the game lack its own real identity and just feels like a far less interesting version of the first game. The cinematography takes a considerable nose dive as well, whether it be from the uninteresting way standard conversations are shot to the general technical issues. Of course, there were the infamous character animations which caused this game to get memed into oblivion, and while those moments were hilarious, once they were patched they didn't fix the issues with its overall presentation. The new characters you come across don't leave much of a lasting impression either, save for a select few. Add to that the fact that the game often forgets about technology and lore set in place by the previous games and that your overall choices do not have any greater effect on the narrative (there sure as hell will never be a sequel to this). Even Mass Effect 3 was more impacted by your choices than this. To be completely fair, though, There are a few genuinely fun moments sprinkled throughout the game and a few of the characters like Drack, Jaal and Liam did win me over. The environments in this game can also look downright beautiful. Sadly, they don't make up for an underwhelming narrative.

How about the gameplay itself? Well, I can certainly say that it is the best part of the game, but not without its own issues. The core shooting mechanics are, quite honestly, the best feeling in the franchise. Clearly the most amount of attention went into the movement and gunplay. It feels and sounds great, and there's a solid selection of weapons to be had. You also have access to every character class and their special abilities right from the get-go, and you can also save these classes and abilities as shortcuts. However, I personally never utilized these shortcuts since I tended to stick with a winning combination that can absolutely decimate everything in my path. It's like getting the Crissaegrim in Symphony of the Night. As soon as you are given the best possible means of winning, there is absolutely no more reason to experiment. Unfortunately, the side missions found on each of the planets are not nearly as interesting, and many of them suffer from the same problem as most Ubisoft titles: a bunch of the same busy work scattered about to fill out the map make it seem like there is a substantial amount of content. This game also sees the return of vehicle exploration since ME1 (Hammerhead from ME2 doesn't count). Thankfully, unlike the Mako from ME1, the Nomad here is very fun to maneuver around in. You can also mine for resources on the ground like in ME2 and 3, but its far less important this time around.

As a Mass Effect game, it is by far the weakest of the series. On its own merits, its decent open world game with some solid shooting and a mediocre story. It's a massive disappointment to many long time fans such as myself, and it doesn't leave me with much hope for a future game (should there ever be one). I only have this game for the sake of owning it as a Mass Effect fan. Everyone else would do best to ignore it and just play the original trilogy instead.

But it gets combat right on so many levels. Mobility, abilities, firepower all make you feel like a super hero. Expand

There is a good game here but it´s buriend under a mess. The story has some interesting moments and characters but the overall plot feels quite convoluted and uninspired. The exploration is fun and the combat is very good. Sadly the multiple bugs and subpar graphics make the experience disappointing. This could have been great.

The game seems to have a lot of copy/paste side quests and exploration padding. I could spend literally several hours messing about here and there and not have any main story update. That did leave a disjointed broken feeling when getting back to the main story. Mining, research, upgrades strike teams and inventory management got to be a micro mange time waster drag.

Exploring new worlds was a load of fun. Lots of reading to do like the good old Mass Effects to keep the lore junkies happy. The flashy jet pack based combat and flashy driving was fun fluid and fast and never got old.

Pandemic retry and well this has not aged well. Seeing Mass Effect related stuff is always cool. The gameplay and combat is now kind of ( DAI ) repetitive and shallow. Already knowing the story and game world nothing any more new to see here sadly. The mystery box level or writing was really so much time wasting BS. MEA was a missed opportunity for sure. Looking like it was made by less talented people. compared to who made the previous three ME games.

The Mass Effect trilogy was one of gaming's finest entries. Bioware, in creating Commander Shepard and his memorable allies in an iconic war against an alien species threatening to destroy all life, took a massive risk in creating a new Mass Effect game outside of the original trilogy. Bioware, in creating Commander Shepard and his memorable allies in an iconic war against an alien species threatening to destroy all life, took a massive risk in creating a new Mass Effect game outside of the original trilogy. If I had picked up this game, having not played the original titles, and it was simply named "Andromeda", would that change how I viewed the games strengths and shortcomings? Possibly. During the 30 hours I spent in Andromeda, I attempted to play it, ignorant to the ties it had with one of the greatest game series of all time.

Andromeda is a big game. Its scale is enormous, but it fails to utilise this with anything particularly meaningful outside of the main questline. Lazy dialogue marrs contextually significant conversations, poor facial animations mean conversing with other humans feels a bit of a chore sometimes, and a strange lack of music or ambience in its hub areas means large parts of the game genuinely feel devoid of life. Poorly developed enemies mean there is no real feeling of threat other than in combat, and Andromeda unfortunately tells a lot more than it shows through characters' choices and actions. Andromeda also suffers greatly from lacks in sub-context, subtlety and nuance. You play as a good guy, and there are characters that will help you stop the bad guy. This is fine, if there are multiple layers around it. There aren't really with Andromeda.

Positives? Combat. Combat is genuinely fun and fluid, and the many customisable options mean that taking on hordes of enemies never feels like a job. Andromeda has beautiful, vast environments that you can traverse on foot or the Nomad (Mass Effect's multi-terrain vehicle). Exploring these gorgeous worlds is fun, and hopping out of the Nomad to kick some baddies butts before getting back in and driving off to complete side quests is mostly satisfying. Andromeda just fails to connect this to anything particularly interesting.

Part of the original Mass Effect trilogy's strengths were in its wonderfully realised characters, and the loyalty missions which enabled you to build meaningful relationships with them. Fortunately, Andromeda's cast of characters is good, and getting to know your allies, as well as assisting them in their character driven missions is a real joy. You can form romantic partnerships with some of your crew, and there's some genuinely heartwarming moments if you invest yourself.

The main issue with Andromeda it never becomes better than "good". At its worst, it's average. At its best, it's fun. It's a game that will give you hours of entertainment, exploring beautiful & dangerous alien worlds, and killing its inhabitants. Andromeda is just far too static and slow the rest of the time. RPGs have evolved, and side quests are no longer acceptable if they all involve travelling from point A to point B, killing or finding something then returning. Conversations should not feel skippable, and villains must have either some charisma, or a genuine reason for existing other than being another obstacle. There has to be tension; threat. Unfortunately Andromeda does nothing to really elevate itself above being an enjoyable space opera.

It could be my extremely high expectations or just other games raising the bar for open-world games (the Witcher III for sure); the fact is that this game lacks the depth and lore of the trilogy. the writing and directing fall short of what could be a great set up for the franchise (another galaxy!).
    The good:
1- Well made combat system and enjoyable fights. 2- Plenty of things to do.

3- Good premise for the franchise reboot.
    4- It's a Mass Effect game!
    5- Enjoyable multiplayer.

    The bad:
1- It badly failed to capture the magnificent feeling of exploring what is (to us at least) uncharted area and focused on the size of the game and a huge number of silly tasks you can do.
2- the writing: While I listened carefully to most of the conversations in the trilogy, I find myself skipping them here. They are just uninteresting and plain dull.
3- Characters (writing as well): I had a genuine emotional attachment to Miranda, Jack, Mordin and many others in the trilogy... but I have zero interest in anyone (Peebee might be a tad better). Even the AI Sam is lacklustre at best in comparison to Edi.
4- The open-world set-up is starting to burden new games unless it's very well made (the Witcher as a brilliant example again) and I'd take a well written linear old fashioned game over a repetitive massive open-world one with a modular feeling.
5- As a summary, I'd say the game failed in terms of story, writing, and directing especially in comparison to the trilogy and recent games.

Update review - having just finished the game 50+ hours later I would avoid this game. It is so unbelievably repetitive and boring. You spend hours and hours driving around empty planets on meaningless and disjointed side quests. This game is so boring it has actually put me off gaming. Technically it looks great but its empty and hollow. 30 % of it was enjoyable 70% dull and I mean dull. Do not be tempted to play this as you will finish very very disappointed. Recently I played the original metroid on the NES and I was hooked for 15 hours straight and that game is over 30 years old because it was fun to play. This game is honestly like watching paint dry, doing maths or accounts.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
5-¿ERA NECESARIO PONERME A LAS DEMÁS ESPECIES EN dlc's?

Graphically I thought it looked beautiful, however was disappointed many aliens such as the Asari used the same 2 or 3 models just with different textures applied. Whereas previous Mass Effect games may have used the same models at times, but they had enough varieties of models spread though out that it was unnoticeable.

Personally I enjoyed the story, especially the final battle which I think is more how the final battle of Mass Effect 3 should've turned out. That being said there were story threads that were left open for DLCs instead of wrapping the story up properly. Especially the whole thing with the Quarian arc, which unfortunately is a DLC we'll never get to see.

Ultimately a flawed game, but still a fun time for fans of Mass Effect or Sci-Fi in general that don't need things to be perfect.

I have a confession to make, this was my first Mass Effect game so my opinion on the game may not be as polarizing as some. So for me, I don’t have the massive disappointment that Mass Effect 2 (regarded as one of the greatest games of all time) turned into this. For me personally, I am coming into this game fresh and so I did my best to keep an open mind about this game.

To start off this game got lambasted with mockery on how the facial animations looked which I don’t think that’s fair and I think its kind of tacky. I try to look at it like games like Uncharted 4 have spoiled us. I always try to do my best to not compare games other games because I don’t think its fair.

Normally I like to talk about the story a little bit in these “reviews” but for this game, I’m not going to bother because the story is forgettable. The characters themselves are also fairly forgettable as well. Although in traditional Bioware fashion, you do get to romance characters so that’s something you can do if you want to.

Right at the start of the game, your first choice is to pick whether you want to be the male of female Ryder. They’re twins so your choice is Scott or Sara. I chose the male, Scott because I’m a guy and I almost always go with the character that best represents me in these scenarios. I know its boring but that’s just the way I play games.

Bouncing back to the Romance options, the person I became most interested in was a character named Suvi. It’s not because the character was necessarily that great, I just liked her voice and more specifically the Scottish accent. Unfortunately, I discovered that Suvi can only be romanced by Sara so she was no longer an option. At that point, I switched focus and had to choose between a woman named Cora who was kind of manly and I don’t like her hair or Peebee who is an alien race and a very annoying character. I ended up going with Cora and as I got to know her a little bit better she kind of grew on me. I think it is important to note that the only reason I even did this was for the trophy. I don’t what it is but watching video game sex (or any animated sex) makes me uncomfortable. I think about the animators staying up late and working overtime just to animate the sex scene. It’s just weird.

Ultimately what kept me playing this game was the shooting. Its a very well made third-person shooter. The shooting is tight the action is exciting and I have nothing but positive things to say about the combat. I genuinely had a good time playing this game because of the combat.

I’m trying to think if this is a game that I would recommend. If you’re a fan of the mass effect series and you like Mass Effect because of the story and interesting characters. Stay away but if you’re in the market for a good third person shooter. Then yes, I would recommend picking this up.

There is a lot of quest and stuff to do in this game, but unfortunately it focuses more on quantity instead of quality. Most quests are boring and most things you do feels like chores instead of entertainment. It might be fun on the first planet but after that most quests feels boring and repetitive. And it’s not only the quests that are repetitive, it’s also the enemies and the creatures on different planets. And in a game that focus a lot on exploration this repetitiveness is a lot more noticeable.

The combat is also not very fun in my opinion, even though it feels a lot better and is not as stiff as the other Mass Effect games. But the cover system feels very clunky and the fact that you are limited to only 3 active abilities when there are around 20 to choose from makes me frustrated and wishing for more options to have FUN in combat. In its current state the combat feels very bland and lacking things to make me feel entertained.

With that said I actually I still enjoyed the game even though it have a lot of flaws. I never found any major bugs that annoyed me and I was fine with the facial animations that a lot of people have criticized the game for. What made be appreciate the game is the overall setting and tone of the game and I liked the story and the characters, and in my opinion that is the most important part of a Mass Effect game. I managed to quickly feel immersed in the world and loved the first hours. But the repetitive nature of the game made it worse and worse the longer I played. After playing it for some time I kind of wished that the game was over so that it wouldn’t taint my experience anymore. Luckily the main quest managed to stay varied and therefore I found the game enjoyable until the end and I do not regret purchasing it... but the developers could have made it a lot better than what we ended up with.

This game succeed in combat and driving simulation. I like all the new companions as much as the original, IF I remind myself that Andromeda is 1 game... not 3 game worth of character growth/attachment. A few narrative gems exists in the plot like Kadaran main quest. I wish those gems had been extended to take over the main plot.

Writing wise, there is a ton of rehash. A lot of "this is just a crappier version of the original." Lots of good political critique that fail to deliver entertainment value. Compare this to the original's balance between gripping narrative and morality lessons, it's quite clear new Bioware writers don't understand that the patrons giving them money deserve more than a peach that they didn't sign up for.

I still like my idea of Mass Effect 4 more. Reapers are in Andromeda, Shepard and crew goes there through a super relay, capable of transport. Story completely and directly inherits from the trilogy with all the fan favourites.

EA announced this title too early, they gave it to a team that hadn't worked with the engine or the series before, they forced it out the door too soon, and they blamed the people that worked hard on it when all of that backfired.

Yes, the game did come out with technical issues. Yes, there were plot and dialogue based issues. But this game was not - IS NOT - the burning **** fire that some people unjustly called it.

They at least didn't make an open world (worlds?) game where the spaces there were too large were filled with endless meaningless fetch quests that forever had you running from one side of the map to the other in order to complete them. The characters are interesting and worth pursuing conversations with outside of those that are required.

It is a shame that there probably won't be anymore content for this game, or for the series for some time now, as unusually I was looking forward to some that the plot itself had set up for.

Mass Effect Andromeda is not a bad game. Having spent 69.5 hours in its campaign and 5 more in multiplayer, I mostly enjoyed my time. Hell, if I didn't, I wouldn't have played this long. The game's got good graphics (especially the vistas), improved combat and this advertised sense of exploration, of being a pioneer. And it works. While the original trilogy was about a massively populated universe where humans are just another race, in Andromeda the whole Milky Way expedition is around 100.000 souls, the resources are scarce, and it's up to you to find a new home.

Now I can't deny Andromeda also has plenty of issues, which I would structure into three main categories.

    Gameplay:
While the combat has become much more fluid and agile with the welcome addition of jump jets, I found it irritating how close the camera was to the character with weapons drawn, severely limiting the field of view. Some other decisions like having to leave the planet every time you board the Tempest, some abilities dependent on power cells, and the lack of tactical pause are also questionable.

    Story:
Let's be honest, the old ME games could not boast any original story. It was just a dude assembling forces to fight giant space prawns. For 3 games straight. Here the main plot mostly mirrors the first game, with the protagonist being the only one able to interface with some derelict tech from an ancient race (Protheans/Jaardan) while fighting enemies who represent a much larger ominous force (Reapers/Kett). While things are pretty straightforward, the game does manage to set up things nicely for the much larger populated galaxy with the huge Kett empire lurking within. I would say, however, that the antagonist is very boring, there was plenty of cringy dialogue, there could have been more original races, and that the squadmate roster is inferior compared to the old games.

    Engine:
I bought the game in version 1.10, with improved animations and fixed bugs. There still were occasional crashes, freezes, glitched animations and quests, but it wasn't really bothersome. I do imagine though, that if these were much more abundant at game's launch, I would have been pissed.

To sum up, the fact that ME Andromeda was basically broken at launch is inexcusable for any AAA blockbuster and a continuation of a popular franchise, and I understand where the hate was coming from. Still, in its current state and for the current price (got it for like 20$) it's well worth picking up. If you are a fan of the old MEs, or RPG's and Sci-Fi in general, I would honestly recommend it.

Mass Effect is one of my favorite universes in the Science Fiction realm alongside Star Wars, Star Trek, and Battlestar Gallactica. This particular game failed to meet those standards with character development. It felt like one big giant side quest, but not a full game on its own. Third: The combat system is the greatest things about the game. They've improved it so much in comparison to the other games in the series. It's more fluid this time around.
Fourth: I hate the Mako. I hated it on ME 1 and I hate it now.
Fifth: The graphics are good. The whole game is gorgeous and that's something a Mass Effect game must have. Beautiful places everywhere, whether it's a desert planet, a night-club or a ship.
Sixth: The music and the sounds are good, but those things in ME 2 and 3 were better.
Seventh: The romance and friendship factor is good.
Final note: Even though the game launched with horrendous facial animations and bugs and the story not being that interesting, the game succeeds to keep the player going for it's Mass Effect feel, with different worlds for you to go and races for you to meet.

Before starting this review i must inform that i have never played any mass effect game before andromeda, so i can't compare it with the original triology. This a review from an rpg fan who loves franchises like The Witcher, Elder Scrolls and Dragon age.

Mass Effect Andromeda is not a bad game, not a 0 game definitely, but it is just a disappointing game which had so much potential. Let's evaluate the game in different topics:

-Combat: Combat in this game was probably one of the best that i have ever played, it is fluid and the cover system is very good too. The skills are diverse and some of them amazing (at least in the biotic tree). Firing the weapons feels very good too. However you can only equip 3 skills, you can choose between 4 loadouts, giving you 12 skills in total, but by switching between loadouts you will have a cooldown.

-Loyalty missions: For me those were the most interesting missions in this game, we learned a lot about the crew and they were a lot more complex than just go to pont A and kill the area or find some item.
-Main quest: Overall i the main quest was not bad, the missions were good, but i found the alien race, the Kett, to be very bland, they didn't have personality, i would like to have known more things about these aliens.

-Secondary quests: Unfortunately one of the most important aspects in an RPG was negleted here, the planets quests were boring, i didn't really find excitement in doing them, witcher 3 quests are way more interesting and have more depth. The people that lives in these planets and give you the quests are bland, and there are really no consequences to your actions ( an important factor in an RPG). I would like to have had more interesting quests with consequences that would affect the story of the game, however the impact of thoses quests here was very small (the ending just depends on 2 quests....)

Exploration: You use the nomad to explore the world, and driving it actually feels good, but my main issue in this category was that the planets were very empy, i rarely had interest in exploring the few caves that the game had. Overall the exploration in this game was just...boring.

Graphics: Overall the graphic in this game were great, the views in planets like Elandeen and Havarl were beautifull, however the facial animations in this game were bad, but for me that factor didn't really bothered me.

The crew: Overall i liked the crew, the best were Vetra, Cora and Drack, but others like Liam and Jaal were so boring, hearing Jaal speaking almost put me asleep. Peebee was ok. However i do not know why but i never really connected with any of the characters, in dragon age inquisition i really loved the crew and cared about them but here that didn't happen.

Character customization: very average , the character models are ugly, the hair styles are few, you cannot change your character eyes size and things like that....compared with the character creation in fallout 4 this one is leaves a lot to be desired.

The angara: The only alien race that exists in the heleus cluster besides the kett, overall i found them boring and uninteresting.

The soundtrack: One of the worst aspects in this game, basically theres almost just one soundtrack....the one in the main menu. There is a serious lack of song during exploration, compared with games like skyrim a and the witcher it is a joke, that is one of the reasons that i never really feeled immersed in this universe. The combat soundtrack is nothing special too. During emotional scenes there are times that there are not soundtrack at all, with the adequate song the difference would be huge.

Overall i still could enjoy the game but it is still very far from the level of other games like the witcher 3. When i finished the witcher 3 i felt an emptyness inside me because i spent so many good hours in that game that would miss a lot, but in this game that didn't happen. Still i had some good moments in this game and i spent over 80 hours in it.

One of the positive things about this is I bought it at a 65% discount. It’s not a bad Mass Effect by any means and I don’t normally take graphical power or character face design into deep consideration if the game is good and this was good but not more. This isn't the original Mass Effect Trilogy and NEVER will be that. Granted, that the bar is set very high, but lets face each title had its flaws. The first played to rigid, ME2 had too short of a campaign and 3 was letdown ending-wise.

I've been playing this for well over 14 hours, so far, so good. Planetary exploration is much cooler
with the view of the spaceship moving planet to planet. Ground exploration is FINALLY back. Missions are laid out very similar to how Dragon Age Inquisition is, with a select amount of large areas to explore and seems to work the same.

Honestly, if you look at how Inquisition plays, just apply that to this.

My only gripe was how the limited the loadout, powers system is now. Also, being unable to equip weapons from the menu is garbage. But I've seen worse mechanics in my almost 30 years of gaming so, I'll suck it up.

Everyone is expecting way too much from games these days, ya'll haters need to calm down.

    VERY LIGHT SPOILERS, nothing major.

After playing this for MANY hours, I've realized two things.

    1. AVOID THE FETCH QUESTS, most of them aren't really that rewarding, give you crap loot/credits/experience. Focus on doing the side missions related to your crew and improving the viability of planets. Space exploration is almost pointless, save for actually discovering the FIVE viable planets, after that mapping the stars get real boring.

    2. The story is a repeat of the 1st Mass Effect, sans the intriguing twist of the original. Yet the narrative isn't horrible, just that it lacks the charm of the ANY of the original trilogy. I felt like everything I did in Andromeda gave me that "been there, done that" kind of feeling.

DROPPED MY SCORE FROM AN 8 to a low 7. The combat is good and the game has its moments, mostly during main and character missions.

Sad to say this, but EA should have kept the original ME Team for developing such an important franchise, instead of experimenting with a new staff. Expand

I preordered this game a long time before release because obviously i thought it would be like the ME Trilogy, but i was wrong. Despite all of the bugs, glitches and animations, the story was so bland, the characters were forgettable and only the combat was good, maybe the best in a ME game, but that doesn't do much when you have so many negative points.

The first thing I am going to say is that I am absolute fan the first trilogy, and this game had me a lot hype.
The beginning of the game are interesting and tell you the objetive the iniciative Andromeda and the problems that appear nothing else to arrive, but the good ends here, them the story go back too slow, and in the end go back again interesting. If they story han been better

If they story han been better told, the game would win many points.
The side quests are too boring, all of them are go de point A to point B a lot of times, they are desperate, besides the side quests of the remants are very very very slow, and you end up hating them. My advice, forget all side quest and only do the missions of the main history
As an exception the only side quests are good, are the ones that tell you about the hidden story of the riddley family, and a lot of times are more interesting than the main story.
The gameplay is the part where the game more advance respect the previous games, The new combat system, It feels more freedom, you must move aroud the enemies and it doesn´t work stay en same cover all the time, But the automatic cover system doesn´t work, and a lot of times you are out the cover without realizing. Other thing negative in the combat system is that you can´t give orders at yours partner for combine powers.
In summary if the game had a better rhythm, the story was a better told, and the side quests were more funny, the game would be much better.

I put about 34 hours in and got about 73 percent completion... much more than expected. I actually quite enjoyed it. The patches have clearly helped as I experienced only a few glitches.
All of the issues have been discussed at length with a heavy focus on the terrible facial animations and poor writing.
What really annoyed me though was during sidequests... someone would tell me to

What really annoyed me though was during sidequests... someone would tell me to check my email.. then i'd need to go to a planet and talk to someone.. then i'd need to go to another planet and talk to someone else.. then i'd need to drive for ten minutes and then there'd be a battle.. then I'd drive back and talk to that person again. The quests are prolonged and dragged out unnecessarily. Towards the end of the game I was getting so tired of it. If I keep getting redirected from planet to planet so then i had to deal with loading screen after loading screen. It's bad game design and that's what pushed the score down to a 7 for me.
The combat is great and planetary exploration and terraforming is a lot of fun too. It's disappointing (especially the characters and story) but it's certainly not a bad game.

Mass Effect: Andromeda is a massive disappointment. It stumbles in almost every department possible and is a chore to play. After going through 1/2 of the game I don't know why I continue playing it. Is it because I have gotten it as a birthday gift from my wife, or because I've invested so much time already and don't want to see it wasted?

After going through 1/2 of the game I don't know why I continue playing it. Is it because I have gotten it as a birthday gift from my wife, or because I've invested so much time already and don't want to see it wasted?

I'll start with saying I have loved every previous Mass Effect. Yes, third game's ending was disappointing but it was still a great game. I have especially loved how every piece of tech was explained in codex with serious respect to laws of physics. Yes, it was all made up but with intelligence and in a way that made it believable. I have appreciated it as a cosmology fan.

And here comes ME: A (whenever I use "AI' I mean 'Andromeda Initiative'). The tech used in this game would put Protheans, Reapers and almost everybody else to the shame. No need for mass relays, they are now installed on board (what about it being point to point tech?). AI has somehow acquired Geth telescopes that are able to see Andromeda Galaxy's systems that are 2 millions LY away in REAL TIME? Normandy was supposed to be astronomically expansive but somehow some agency supported by some multi-billionaire has built IN SECRECY a Citadel clone (just as huge) and four huge arc ships and sent them to Andromeda. They also have advanced Artificial Intelligences, some integrated into human brains. Black holes in ME: A cause lensing effect on objects between you and them (some new laws of physics right there).

Sweet mother of mercy, has nobody in New Bioware played any ME game before? I mean, I know it's sci fi but all of the things I have mentioned are not explained and beyond hardly believable. The explanations the writers have come up with are piss poor and are just mash ups of 'techy' and 'science' buzz words. Nothing is left of meaningful explanations from previous installments. This game would have been received much better if it had nothing to do with Mass Effect as it clearly doesn't want to play by Mass Effect's physics and science rules.

The story is non-existent. Whatever writing there is, it's so bad and disconnected from reality I won't even talk about it. Foster Addison is especially bad and I can't stand her, nobody would - I'll even go as far as saying people with such personality don't exist.

I also don't like how this game tries to push 'social agenda'. I'm only halfway through, but I have already seen transsexuals, gay technician, single sex families talking about adoption, a character with two mothers. That would really be alright if this game had more characters but this way, heterosexuals and heterosexual marriages are really in minority in this game or not AT ALL vocal. It's not the point however - in a game with such bad writing and story I'm pissed somebody spent so much time coming up with such meaningless arcs instead of working on better quests and story.

Going back to what is meaningful - story is so far horrible and boring. The game doesn't feel like Mass Effect AT ALL. Side quests are terribly bland and almost always come down to going somewhere and pressing TRIANGLE. It would be alright if they had some cool story behind them but its usually something along the lines: "Help us find ship parts - scan 10 ship parts spread on the map, kk? thx bye". Most of the time they don't have follow ups and you don't see any result of doing them or consequences. Dialogues are delivered with single emotion - both in voice and in animations (which are horrible, but you already know that).

Soundtrack is non-existent, literally. I have not yet heard a single track throughout my playtime (above 30 hours). Even main menu has some barely audible ambient.

Graphics as in models and shaders are okish. Animations are unbearable or simply non-existent.

The only redeeming qualities of this game are shooting mechanics and jet pack. Jet pack is almost the only thing carrying this game - it's super fun to use. If only inventory, research and crafting weren't such convoluted mess, I would love experimenting with more guns.

Mako, ekhem, Nomad is quite irritating. Has anybody playtested it? It's slow, jetpack barely lifts it off the ground and it has issues going up almost any hill (you have to switch it into different mode then, but it slows down considerably). Mako from ME1 feels like mobility demon compared to Nomad.

I would sum it all up this way: ME: A is a little below average game. I would enjoy more almost any other game. It's unforgivable that such monstrosity was dealt to ME franchise. I have thought that people might not like it, but me as ME fan would like it at least a bit. It's not true and don't try to convince yourself. Unless you get it for free, don't buy it - you will only damage your opinion about franchise. If you decide to play it, skip all side-quests, they are not worth it.

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]

A welcome, if slightly patch return for Mass Effect. The script has problems, but combat is bloody brilliant. [May 2017, p.62]
