Yeah it has some fun combat and ok art direction here and there but besides terrible story, terrible and annoying characters, facial animations that belong in the year 2005 and performance issues this game deserves its 0 purely for the lack of SOUL. very disappointing game that I waited 5 years for, the animation and facial is so bad that really breaks the experience. There are so many bugs that just shows the game is not finish or ready.

They tried to push this unfinished game out so they can make money that's why EA sucks.

Completely and utterly the worst possible game that could have come after such a cultural phenomenon that was the original mass effect trilogy. I could have slammed the keyboard a few dozen times and still come out with a better story, better programing and better art.

When you type Bioware on Google you'll find their slogan is "Rich stories, Unforgettable characters, and Vast worlds". ME:Andromeda has a vast world (I give them that), but it lacks in interesting story and compelling characters. ME: Andromeda fails to deliver a complete Mass Effect experience.

I'm just gonna go with the facts that I personally found in the game. I'll start with unpleasant facts, because my first impression was full of unpleasant bugs and irritating features (and it happens right from the very beginning of the game). Character creation is very limited and a huge step backward. The templates are plain ugly, both male and female. You aren't allowed to change Ryder's original face template. Game is buggy and you'll find it quite often the first few hours. Objects/models popping in and out, sometimes they just stuck in place or completely missing. Facial animations are complete failure, they have very little expressions and terrible lipsync.
Some character movement animations are questionable and sometime their limbs may glitch. Dialogues are average or worst if you compare it to previous Mass Effect. Also the final game doesn't look anything like in the trailer (missing "movie effects" and colors just completely different, trailer look much smoother).
Bioware removed Paragon/Renegade features. They also removed classes. The auto cover system is annoying. The squad mates which you're supposed to "mate" with are terribly designed (the ladies are "unappealing", and I'm sorry I'm not into men). The human models look a lot like robot, their faces look like plastic and their eyes are just "dead".

The space fantasy that I always loved from ME was ruined because of terrible first impression. Totally not what I'm looking for in a Mass Effect game. It took them 5 years to make and they are not done. They shouldn't have release it. I don't know where those $40 million go? It felt like the team that make this game weren't working as one, rather scrambled. They should've hire better animator, coder, and tester.

There's a few things worth praising though. The combat system does work. The people who design the combat system need a raise. It felt smooth, quick, and the higher mobility is awesome. During combat you'll feel good. Tons of customization. Apart from the background music being a bit underwhelming, the vistas and the environments looking gorgeous. But those are just part of the game sadly.

They have failed to keep me playing. It's like watching a super high budget movie with great settings but starring bad actors playing as unappealing characters with bad script. How am I supposed to involve myself in it. It definitely not worth my $60, and my time. I felt victim to the hype and Mass Effect past glory.

I followed 1 character through 3 games, making hard choices, making friends and enemies, exploring a fascinating and compelling setting.

I hands down without a thought pre-ordered this new title expecting an amazing title given the technology, budget and production values of today.

It's heart breaking to know they botched this title in a serious way and it shows very clearly. All the positive reviews are also a massive let down from the community as they only serve to support or enable terrible travesties to be made out of a once beloved and well regarded franchise.

I have canceled my pre-order for a full refund. I refuse to support companies which such a blatant disregard for quality control let alone drop the ball on essential things like facial animation and engaging dialogue. Out of this I will never again pre-order any game from EA or Bioware again.

Imagine reading the entire Harry Potter series only to discover the last book is absolutely terrible and puts you off the entire thing for good. Now amplify that feeling a thousand times and punch yourself in the face, then you can come close to the kind of let down I'm experiencing. What an utter joke. Shame on the developers. Shame on anyone involved with this title to not step up and speak their mind and protect the franchise.

Please do not support companies like these responsible for ruining titles and releasing unfinished uninspired botched products that only serve to disappoint you to the highest degree.

There's a hint of a game but everything feels superficial and lazily crafted. The game is not worth playing and I'm sad I wasted my time on it.

I like none of the squadmates the game gives you. All of them are mopey or annoying.

The game just follows the same pattern over and over. Go to a planet, do some fetch quests, fix the broken terraforming device, start a colony and maybe assault some military outpost with the same boss at the end. Oh and there is a giant robot worm you can fight on every planet. Same boss every time.

Now sure repetition is common in games. My issue is mainly the lack of window dressing. In ME1, which this game was meant to emulate, technical limitations forced Bioware to be creative and actually do something different on every planet. Here we just get a map you can drive around on.
Given how immersion breaking the animations and ugly models are the lazy repetition becomes noticeable.

ME1 also had these mission debriefings with your crew and the council after each mission. The latter would usually be displeased with your work. Here they mostly don't happen and when they do everyone just supports you. There's basically no roadblocks for you.

Eventually I found one of the Arks and I thought. Great finally a location that could be fun. But it was mostly empty hallways. Same on the Kett's vessel. Eventually even the game just teleported me using cutscenes instead of making me walk through empty hallways.
If that doesn't show how lazy they were I don't know what does.

Now about the immersion breaking ugly models.
This is the first time in more than 15 years I have not played a female character when given the option to do so. Sara is the only caucasian option in the game. And you're not allowed to tweak her like any of the asian, indian or african faces of which you get multiple ones. Bioware seems to have missed the memo when diversity activists said that it's not about taking away choice but adding it.
But it does feel in line with the usual hypocrisy and petty attitudes of SJW's.
But what do I know. It doesn't help Sara is ugly and the subpar animations compound the problem.

Not that the males are much better. I eventually went into the menu options and enabled helmet gfx to always be shown. Another thing I've never done before. I just couldn't stand looking at his plastic hair. I absolutely hate it. Same with Ken in Street Fighter 5.
How does this **** get thru Q&A? Are people really that blind they can't tell the hair looks horrible?
Can't they tell there are no caucasian options? Can't they tell the animations are subpar?

Writing is mostly forgettable. Except maybe for one thing.

At one point Jaal one of the natives to Andromeda expresses his discomfort aboard your ship and all it's "aliens". You are given to options to react to this. You can tell him that to you he's the alien and basically express how these feelings are common to both of you and thus you're not all that different.

Or you can tell him he's a **** bigot.
I don't know but in my book that's a hateful response typical of modern progressives who are not interested in trying to develop a meaningful relationship. In fact it's downright absusive.
It's so weird to see SJW's do this over and over again. Do they seriously think this is a smart way to interact with people? Quite frankly... that line should have been cut from the game. And there's other such instances but whatever.

    To fix this?
I'd cut the remnant from the game because that'd remove the malfunctioning terraformers from the game. Thus there'd be no excuse for the lack of cities and proper civilizations in the cluster. There'd be politics and strong military strength limiting what you can do. They'd have to be creative instead of every planet being barely habitable with some small outposts here and there.

With the remnant gone they could develop the Kett a bit and actually make them interesting. And perhaps cut 2 planets from the game so you'd have to tell the story a bit faster.

Where is the impact, when does the gravity of the situation make everyone cut the quips and start acting normal? Even Ryder's dad's death causes him/ her to smirk. The cherry on top imo is that all the new alien species are humanoids, while Mass Effect came up with nice and unique non-humanoids who felt whole. I won't even compare the romances here, but that's a point where it becomes clear the difference in quality when compared to the other ME games. Don't waste your money buying this, just rent it.

I tried. I tried really hard to give this game a chance, but I have no more patience left in me for this game.

Let's start with the multiplayer (the largest source of frustration for myself and many others): The game crashes roughly 50% of the time on wave 6 or wave 7 meaning you waste 10-20 mins. and don't get any reward for it. It still functions on a host-based system (in 2017 lol)

Let's start with the multiplayer (the largest source of frustration for myself and many others):
The game crashes roughly 50% of the time on wave 6 or wave 7 meaning you waste 10-20 mins. and don't get any reward for it. It still functions on a host-based system (in 2017 lol) which creates a multitude of lag fests. The RNG for the loot based reward system is ridiculous. You spend 50000 credits for a pack of five items which normally contains 1 weapon/character with 2 boosters (I currently have 50+) and two consumables. Lots of bugs causing certain abilities not to function properly (Why is Avenger Strike affected by the Shield Gate if it's considered a melee attack?).

    Now for the singleplayer:
You've already heard about the ridiculous facial animations (default Sara Ryder honestly looks like a mutant). The customization options are more of a "select a template and change its hair and eye color." Rather than give you a diverse set races for companions, you get two humans and only four others (no Salarian is a big no-no for me). Some races didn't even "make the cut" for Andromeda like the Drell and Volus. Only one new race in an ENTIRE new galaxy. Mediocre and predictable writing.

This game feels like EA tried to milk money out of ME fans with a lackluster title. I am thoroughly disappointed with the quality of this game. The majority of these issues should never have passed quality control tests. Honestly, I won't be buying another EA/Bioware game again. Terrible production value with very little response to community feedback.

Not only am i dissatisfied with the game but i have absolutely no desire to play this game a second time. I will however mention that there are good aspects of the game. On pc i was running a gtx 1070, 16 gig of ram i7 6700. The games environments look amazing and it ran great at 60 fps with vsync on. The combat i thought was another strong point. And i would say that's all i can think of that was good about me:a. The story of all of the arks looking for planets in the galaxy to settle on was actually a good idea. But i felt they really fumbled on all other aspects of the story. Lame generic villain. Uninteresting crew mates which none had any charisma besides peebee. The cora romance didn't feel like a romance at all. No chemistry with ryder at all. It was basically flirt with her during conversations, do a few loyalty missions for her and thats it. Then you get to have sex with her once. When i reached the last mission i was a bit surprised i was already at the end of the game. I did do quite a few side missions and the campaign still felt unusually short. Overall i regret buying the deluxe version of the game. I actually regret buying the game at all. To say bioware took a huge step backwards with me.a is an understatement. This is possibly the worst game they have ever released. Expand

Last night the game got some broken and confused I had to reload in order to continue with mission (only after wasting about an hour trying to find out why I couldn't progress).

You could compare this game to the previous in the series, some won't think that's fair and I would agree you have to take this on it's own merits but it's worth noting that almost everything the previous titles did that is present here... They did it much better.

This is fairly dull story, you'll care very little for the characters and the ultimate conclusion (if you can call it that) is not particularly satisfying... The controls are very clunky, load times are slow and it is not pretty by current gen standards. The music is better than I think most give it credit for but it is still too muted and not as epic as it could be. The game feels like lots of people had some great ideas but went off into separate rooms and developed them alone then tried and ultimately failed to put them all together.

Finally... The argument from many is that all these things will be patched and we'll have a shiny piece of brilliance once finished... But the point is this game was released, sold for £50+ and so should work off the bat. The other is "making games is hard, how can they expect to find all the bugs?", were it only a few bugs I don't think anyone would be that rattled... It's the sheer lack of polish that is offensive, as is if they didn't even bother to test it or simply didn't care - oh, and plenty of other developers make games of this scale without even a fraction of the issues or freakish looking characters.

My opinion is that the story, writing, character development and world development in Andromeda is extremely derivative, bland and one-dimensional, not nearly as good in those aspects to ME 1 (IMO, the weakest of the three MEs). I will not deny that I played ME 2 demo and instantly bought the full game and fell in love with it. I played ME 1 and 3 and, while I preferred 2 over 3 and 3 over 1, Andromeda was extremely disappointing and it became boring after a while. What was a blank slate to create a new, expansive experience became a cheap, downgraded rehash from the original trilogy that didn't deliver in depth. While playing the original trilogy I devoured the whole Codex and every bit of information I could because those would add depth and understanding of this new, exciting world. In ME: Andromeda, I stopped reading after 20 hours of gameplay and basically just rushed to the mission points on the map because it all became a boring, repetitive hassle with no impact on the story or the world whatsoever. I even tried loading save points where dialog options were given to try different outcomes, but they were all the same.

Praise for the new combat system are OK, but sometimes overrated. The tactical choices from the original trilogy where you would balance your squad to cover your power weaknesses (like picking squadmates with good powers vs armor because you were focusing on vs shields), or when to have your squad use their powers in the perfect moment, is gone. Individual combat is good in this game, but the removal of the mentioned features is a big let down for me.

Reviews that have popped up such as in mmorpg.com saying that the game was not as bad as it's been said, blaming people fixation with bad animation or ugly women and other excuses, I believe they are grabbing at straws. Case in point: ME 1, 2 and 3 female Shepard options were fugly; ME 1 still has game breaking bugs; there were buggy animations, poses and moments all over the trilogy, and players still loved it. Players and reviewers remarking on those bugs in Andromeda are doing so because these faults are just nails in the coffin, not the cause of discontent or disappointment.

I've played both the story and multiplayer, and both have left me with a feeling of disgust. I'm not going to go in the same direction as everybody else and knock the animations, which were bad and obviously lacking polish, but instead, I'm going to focus on the conversations in the game and the multiplayer.

The single-player portion of the game has potential, It's clearly obvious the game is expansive and has room to grow, but I can't get passed the pointless conversations. I understand the game's central focus is your character's interaction between other characters within the game, but every conversation doesn't seem to flow well with your dialogue choice. In the first missions I was given the task to restore power to an outpost, in doing that I met with an NPC behind a door. To convince him and gain his trust all I had to do was "sound like a pathfinder". He didn't require me to prove ID, kill some giant monster that has been attacking his camp recently, hell he didn't even want me to collect some obscure herb found only in some remote section of the galaxy, just sound like a pathfinder. These conversations are so stale, unenjoyable, and lack a clear direction that it completely breaks any form of immersion you may be able to muster up if you got passed the animations.

Now for the multiplayer, I actually did enjoy this. Which is why I gave the game a 4. The multiplayer was fun for about 20 hours, then the grind became too repetitive. After opening nearly 200 boxes I realized I wasn't even halfway to obtaining all of the upgrades to my gear, this would require me to open up another 400 boxes and some 1000 gold difficulty runs. Opening boxes were fun, but many of the classes, weapons, and mods were pointless. Assault rifles are completely useless due to the rapid spread of the reticle after holding the trigger for a mere 1 second. Shotguns have absolutely zero range and there is no pay off for risking your life to get within range, the damage is barely visible. Snipers are well snipers, they are either hit or miss, in this case, the vanquisher is probably the only one you should use. The only weapons that felt worthwhile were the pistols, namely the Charger and Talon. Character classes too felt underpowered in comparison to the Asari Duelist. The other offensive classes are incapable of doing any real damage and the defensive units can barely maintain the same bulk as the Duelist. My last major issue the server quality. I can't get into a single game without there being some kind of lag. This here is a prime example of why dedicated servers are necessary for any game with online capability. *I guess one last issue, actually more of a pet peeve, but in the prestige tab, if you look at the weapons you will that they have a majority of the weapons mislabel. Snipers such as the Black Widow are labeled as a pistol, the Revenant as a pistol, and so on.

Honestly, this game needs a lot of work and TLC. They should have pushed the game back another year or two to work out all of the kinks and give this game the polish worthy of the hype surrounding it.

Not going to mention animations, cause that has probably been typed to death, (for real, they're terrible.) but what's more tragic is the forgettable story and dialogue! There is hardly any thread of a decent story line in Andromeda, the characters are pretty linear, and the dialogue comes off as fan fiction at times. I, personally, can look the other way with small amount of bad animations, but for a Bioware game with a terrible story, dialogue (plenty of examples, Liam's banter about shooting a guy in the face in the earlier scene, Sara Ryder talking to Suvi, etc.) , and characters? That's tragic. After finishing the game, I got the sense that it was like the rough draft of the ideas, made it to the final version, instead of really crafting a narrative that isn't as cheesy as what is in the game. That can't be patched up. Who came up with the idea of the mini games being sudoku puzzles? Really? Missions and side quests turned out to be small to major fetch, scan quests. Speaking about mission quests, talk about not feeling threatened by the Kett. Pretty boring bad guys.

What was good about the game was the fighting mechanics. If they focused a lot of time and effort in the story, dialogue, and characters, as they did with the combat this would have been a great addition to the Mass Effect universe. But no matter how many patches and updates they put in (which they should have delayed it to fix the fixable bugs and glitches before launch) they can't fix what really is broken in this game.

NOT ONCE HAVE I BEEN ABLE TO SOLVE A PROBLEM IN TRIVIAL CONVERSATION WITH A PISTOL OR A RIGHT HOOK, ALL THE WHILE HAVING MORE SUITABLE BUT PACIFYING OPTIONS. WTF! This is not Mass Effect.

    3. This game does not make you feel BA like the other Mass Effects. Electronic Arts jacks up everything they touch. The other Mass Effects made you feel gritty and tough. This game makes you feel like you are a model of civility and wussification. It sucks.

    4. The characters have no depth. Whoever wrote their dialog is an imbecile and needs to find a bridge to jump off of (JK!). All the characters and Ryder are terrible. Is EA like Disney, slowly ruining Mass Effect like Disney is ruining Star Wars? EA is one of the worse game developers there is. Please listen to your suckiness, because you deserve it.

    5. The game lacks creativity in every place where it matters. Sure, it looks great but it has no meat and potatoes.

    6. The quests are not understandable half the time and so quickly blerted out that they are near to incomprehensible. Look I am not an automaton of action and doing, SLOW DOWN YOU IDIOTS and focus on storytelling. Tell your corporate boss to stick it in his backside if they complain about it not having enough action. We need time to develop bonds and understanding of character situations before jumping off into the next bullship busy crap.

    Advise for EA:
Fire everyone, burn this game to the ground, forget it, and start over.

When I had played 10hrs I didn't want to play anymore. But I kept going, hoping that things would pick up but they didn't. I just couldn't believe what bioware had done to my all time favorite game series. Whoever decided that their "flagship" title should be handled by a support studio and some of it should be outsourced completely, is a f***ing idiot! When EA came along everything started to go downhill. Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire and ME1. Every game bioware made before EA meddling was a masterpiece, if not it came deam close.

I don't mind few bugs here and there. There's going to be bugs in a huge game like this. It can't be avoided, but this stuttering mess is not a triple A game. We should get a refund, this game is obviously not finished. If I bought a car and it had this much problems I could get a new one from the dealership because of the warranty.

So the gameplay.. sigh.. no tactical pausing, can't give orders to squadmates to use powers to set up combos, only 3 skills to use?!? Cover system sucks.

I was actually going to write a lot longer and in depth review but I can't keep going. There is just too much wrong with this game, I give up. I do solemnly swear I will not buy another bioware game until they break free from the grip of the horrible abomination that is EA.

As a reviewer I try to provide enough information to fellow gamers to stay away from horrible titles and to try out games that are actually good. This time I can't provide more than my own die hard ME1 fan opinion. I would not touch this with a 10 foot pole.

Unfortunately, the storyline is a bit childish, predictable, and - in some places - incosistent. The idea of exploring a dangerous, new galaxy and meeting an unknown race that you can't communicate with was exciting, but ended up with your AI being able to quickly translate languages so there's no more mystery or "first contact" issues. Exploration is also flattened to a level of "Cold Planet, Warm Yourself". It could have been so much more than this.
What is more, BioWare quickly abandoned this game due to backlash and caused more backlash among those who actually enjoyed the experience. It was especially painful for those who focused on multiplayer, invested their time and money, and got a product that was worse than what the previous game (ME3) offered.

As a fan of the Mass Effect trilogy, I was heavily disappointed with what Andromeda offered. It seemed as if they had a nice idea that they turned into a generic "good guys, bad guys" game and then threw it away.

One of final missions of one planets (no spoilers) looks like this: you are on your ship - go to system -> LOAD -> go to planet -> LOAD -> land on the planet -> LOAD -> run few meters -> LOAD ENTERING DOOR (opening these doors take longer than other to allow objects to load) -> run few meters -> LOAD ENTERING DOOR -> watch dialog (while choosing responses that are irrelevant to story and gameplay), run few meters -> LOAD ENTERING DOOR -> run few meters -> LOAD ENTERING DOOR -> run few meters to terminal -> LOAD -> run few meters -> you can ride for 2 minutes or fast travel so LOAD -> run and watch cutscene, make one decision (changing model appearing at the end of the game) -> go back to starting position so LOAD -> terminal transit -> LOAD -> first door -> LOAD -> second door -> LOAD -> watch dialog and it's end of the quest. Except main quest all quest are like that - lots of loading, a bit of running, some shooting/scanning, dialog and go to other planet, so again lots of loading. Gameplay is ok, but a massive amount of work were placed to create all dialogs and lore but most ware created just to fill blanks without any creativity. Cinematics are bad. Mechanics of dialogs are bad - it sound like a "FRIENDS" without lough track - speaking, pause, speaking and all lack any emotions, and if there are some emotions, bad animation makes it look bad. Same few animals across whole galaxy cluster. No music so gameplay is a bit flat (final mission has music and is way more entertaining). Whole game looks like some scrum or agile management where creatives ware used to fill gaps, not to shape whole experience. Expand

Overall this game can be just described in one word- Amateur. In Story, character, graphics etc. the only reason I give it a 3 is due to its redeeming combat mechanic. Maybe all this got to do with the amateur staff they hired, some of them have zero experience in gaming but a whole lot of achievements in their political movements.

This game is by no means a bad game. However, it is a prime example of what happens when developers fail to polish their game, and fail to uphold the quality that modern triple-A titles should be known for. Though this game is highly enjoyable to some, there are simply too many faults and defects that it clearly should not be treated with the same respect as other, more polished games out there, which show outstanding professionalism and where the developer's care for the game really shows. This game just lacks all the makings of a modern, block-buster gaming experience, unlike its predecessors, the original Mass Effect Trilogy. The original trilogy were all critically acclaimed titles and for good reason; it shows what developers can really accomplish, and provide a gaming experience that could be unforgettable. This game, lacks that. It does not deliver. Lackluster writing, mediocre animations, no quality control. There is no hate-bandwagon; games are not hated for no reason. This game is an insult to all good, polished, and masterful games out there. It is an insult to the original trilogy. This game is an insult to its own fans. Expand

    3) Jumping is a nice change.
    The bad:
    1) Facial animations. Every other reviewer is hitting this topic no need to go into more detail. I'm
playing on max settings and the original trilogy had better animations.
    2) No mini map or radar. this is a space exploration game are you telling me your wrist watch
scanner (Not an omnitool that's clear) can't give you a map?
    3) The new cover system is janky and all over the place.
    4) Companions are useless and combat ineffective at the best of the times.
    5) Wildlife diversity.
    6) 3 abilities can only be used at a time.
    7) Space Saduko.

    The WTF!

    1) Who in the name of the goddess screened or hired these voice actors? Seriously did EA/Bioware blow their whole budget on a hack actress from GOT? The guards from Skyrim have more emotional depth than 99% of the characters in the game. It's so bad that I skipped through almost all the cutscenes but left the subtitles on so I wouldn't miss the non-existent plot.

    2) Character creation..................Did you even try EA/Bioware?!?

    3) Plot. This was a totally shoehorned politically driven plot and it doesn't even try to hide it. two examples are on Eos and a Nexus follow up. 1st example and spoiler alert once you set up an outpost on EOS this after the first two were slaughtered by the kett if you set up a military base people on the nexus will actually have a protest.....really?!? 2nd example while doing a misc side quest you are given the option to share natural gas with exiles and you companions will try to make you feel bad for fracking..........Political Bias aside the plot drags and gives you no incentive to make any decision it is linear, there is no real choice in the game that will change the outcome. After 40+ hours I have no urge to playthough again to find out, for a Mass Effect game passing on a New game + option should be a red flag. it's just an all around bad plot in a majority of the game with no pacing or depth.
    4) Playing on a Brand new pc i7 with a 1080 I ran across very few game breaking bugs but more than a dozen times I was forced to hard stop the game in order to fix some i.e getting stuck on invisible walls, falling through the ground, cutscene bugs (getting killed by an enemy while talking to an npc in the cutscene. It's clear there was no quality control in this game at all because running into any bug on an average of every two minutes. Fallout 4 on launch felt better.

In closing this is my first review and I don't have an editor to proof read but I had to write a review for this game because this trend of pushing personal politics and feelings into games at the expense of a quality product is no longer acceptable. EA doesn't care that much is obvious but I expected more out of bioware the company that brought us Dragon Age Origins, Kotor 1-2, 99.5% of the Mass Effect Trilogy. This abomination is not a Mass Effect game. I could take a poop and put the Mass Effect Logo on it and it would have more character depth than this game. RIP Mass Effect.

The writing is also mediocre at best, given that Mass Effect writing hasn't always been high literature but at least it was funny, charming and enough to get you invested in the story. I'm already 25 hours into Andromeda and i just cant get myself to care about the stories and the characters. My biggest disappointment were the mundane fetch quests that just littered the game. It seemed like a majority of the quests were a simple go here find 3 of these and sent you off to all corners of the map, and it got really old really fast. Which is really sad because there is a good game in here somewhere, the areas are massive and there is plenty to explore. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Note: This review is based on the first 9-hours, since I couldn't manage to play anymore than that.

As a huge fan of the Mass Effect trilogy and someone who still plays the 3 games occasionnely, I couldn't help but compare Andromeda to its forebears. And Andromeda feels cheap. I don't know where the time and the money went, because they barely had any new models (except for Angaran & Kerth weapons). Krogans, Asaris, Turians.. All the characters seem imported straight from Mass Effect 1 with just higher textures. Mass Effect 2 and 3 had more variety in terms of alien species.

Animation is minimum, at the same level than Mass Effect 1. But Mass Effect 1 was 10 years ago. I won't spend time talking about that since any meme on the internet shows the problem of the animation in Mass Effect Andromeda.

Writing is barely at a minimum. Actually, I was hooked in the beginning. Sleeping for 600 years and falling in an unknown galaxy which is actually less hospitable than expected ? That looked awesome. I even liked the first encounter with the Kerth, where you hesitate between shooting or waiting for any gesture of diplomacy. I liked alien gigantic-structures which could transform an entire world, it was an enticing mystery. The Kerth looked good enough, even if not really original.

The Nexus and the Angaran meeting obliterated any interest I had in the story. The Nexus felt robotic, like if no one cared about the situation. I mean if you compare to ME3's depicition of the Reaper War, you know that ambiance is very important for immersion. In MEA, no one seemed to really care about the fact they were all stranded in an unknown galaxy, cut off from their arks, without much food, fighting against each other (I mean, there was a mutiny !) and floating in space. The very few people you meet just don't care.

And the Angarans... I was really anticipating meeting a new race (after the Kerth of course). How would they react ? How would we communicate ? It could have been a major plot event. It was the most ridiculous depiction of inter-species discovery I have ever seen in a movie/game. It was filled with completely unexplained and illogical elements such as "How can the Angarans all talk our language just minutes after our landing ?". Even their chief. Even any Quest-giving PNJ you meet afterward !

Also they say that the Kerth were the first alien race they ever encountered before the Initiative. And yet, they didn't put protection in place, they let me walk straight to their leader (I was a damn biotic ! I didn't need weapons to crush him if I that was what I wanted). I asked them to see the vault and they answered without any kind of reservation about it, just a mere 3 minutes after I began to speak. I felt like I was just meeting a human sergent on a human planet and it was just a normal secondary quest giver. There was absolutely no sense of immersion whatsoever and it was a damn shame. I can also talk about all the Angarans who seem eager to give you quests on the way back, even if they shouldn't be able to speak my language and they had all the reasons in the world to be suspicious of aliens. I'm not even talking about the fact that the Initiative is not 1 alien race, but more than 5 together and no Angaran seemed to care or take note of this. Maybe they're blind and see humans, asaris and krogans as similar ?

The worlds you visit feel fake and I was like playing ME1 again, even if the vehicle is far easier to handle and graphics are upgraded. It felt more like a remaster of ME1 in that aspect.

Combat is... weaker than ever. Jetpacks felt like a unexplained addition to the combat system, like adding jump abilities to CoD. In ME123, ennemies have more or less the same abilities you have (at least most ofthem). You know what to expect from them, and you are at a similar level. But in MEA, strangely only you have jetpacks. And your mates. Which means ennemies are stuck to the ground while you fly and dodge like a madman around the battlefield. I found that extremely hard to believe. I do love the acceleration provided by the jetpack of course, like any gamer playing Titanfall would praise the "walk-on-wall" mobility, but I felt my immersion broken when thinking about why I wasthe only one using that. Beside, the ennemies are not designed to fight a jetpack-equipped player, for sure. It feels like playing classical CoD during WWII with a jetpack ! It feels like it was not part of the combat design.

AI is still stupid, haven't changed since ME1. Allies are worse than ever because now the orders you give them are so few that their inability cannot be compensated by your intervention. Allies standing on rocks instead of taking cover behind them is the pinnacle of the flaws of this system for me. Enemy AI was weak in ME1 but at least they were dangerous.
I reached the limit for my review, but I had a lot more things to say.

In Mass effect Andromeda Good luck finding white males and males period in any powerful or meaningful role in game you quickly find that all mission givers and characters that are in power and meaningful in game are overwhelming female with the lesser being minorities or aliens if male at all. While White males are nowhere to be found in game except as cannon fodder or for mockery. This game not only is too extremely politically correct but ractist against white males and white people in general to the point that its too obvious and sickening to loyal fans who love the franchise and have been loyal since it started.

There is diversity done right like mass effect 1 through 3 and then there is ME andromeda not the way you want to do diversity in games as people play games to get away from their personal lives and have fun. The designer of game clearly wanted to get political and personal on a level that is bad for business given fact that majority of gamers will be of male gender to begin with and most likely a good amount white too when it comes to the RPG genre too not smart at all for a business.

It is without a doubt one of the worst games in recent years. It already starts at character creation. The faces are simply ugly. There is no other way to put it and no amount of editing can make them attractive. It is so bad that it renders the game almost unplayable. I literally had to start a new game with a different face 5 times before I finally had created a face that was somewhat bearable. That's ridiculous for a RPG. It's the first time that has ever happened to me. I've altered the settings so that the character's helmet is on most of the time, which helps somewhat. But there are still cutscenes where the helmet is removed. Of course if that was the only thing wrong with the game it would be something to overcome and perhaps fix in a future patch, but sadly there is much, much more wrong with it. The story is almost non-existent, the NPC's are uninteresting, the side quests are boring and is most cases simply an exercise in futility. The replay value is limited because there are no class restrictions. One of the great things about the previous Mass Effect games was that you could play them again as a different class and get a completely different game experience. But in this game it is all lumped together. As a Vanguard you can specialize in skills of an Infiltrator, or an Engineer, or a Biotic. It completely ruins the replayability. And you get so many skill points (I easily reached level 62 on my first playthrough) that you can try out pretty much every skill you want and still have points to spare. It's ridiculous. The game is also filled with bugs that sometimes even cause quests to break or hang. The first patch has actually made things worse. The AI in your head won't shut up. Telling you the temperature is below freezing, and then normal again, and then below freezing again, and then normal again, and so on. But that very same information is already on the screen, so there is no need for the AI to tell you about it. It's just purely annoying. As an experienced gamer you will know what to do as soon as you enter a location. And you'll do it. But in this game you will enter a location, see the terminal that you have to activate and then wait for a minute while your AI explains to you in an excruciatingly slow voice that you have to activate the terminal. This game is completely void of any thing that makes it interesting. The game keeps you busy, but at no point does it entertain. This game is the complete opposite of the previous Mass Effect games. Those were great, this is garbage. Even if a future patch fixes the bugs, gives you the option to shut your AI up, makes the faces of the player character less ugly, it still leaves you with a terribly designed game that is boring an annoying. If you absolutely must buy this game and see for yourself how bad it is, don't buy it now as you can get it a discount soon enough. But my advise is to keep your money in your pocket and keep the memory of the greatness of the previous Mass Effect games intact. Expand

People say the combat is good but that's all MEA is, pew-pew-pew. It's CallofDuty in space now, and anyone wanting story, plot or character must look elsewhere. The people responsible for this atrocity should never work in the industry again.

A total steaming pile of rubbish - the entire studio who published this atrocity of a game should be fired. Between the crappy animations and faces that were better in ME1 (and that's TEN years ago) to the infantile writing, the even more dumbed down squad control, the vast quantity of mindless side quests. All in all a total mess.

As with most games touched by EA, this installment is a stain on a a great franchise and an embaressment to a company like Bioware, who has up till now been held in high regard by gamers.

I am so utterly dissapointed in every aspect of this game that i can safely say i wont even bother with the next title Bioware makes me wait 5 years for. Getting in bed with EA was the worst decision they ever made and this sad, unplayable failure of a game only serves to show just how far they have fallen.

Dont waste your money, the awful graphics and flat story aside, the outragous amount of bugs will most likely leave the game unplayable enough that you wont have to suffer through all the other shortcomings that make this game one of the hugest disappointments ever.

was a fan of the first trilogy. Here we lost the grandiose of the previous game with weak characters, average writing, weak design and average visuals.
it looks like this has been done by non-passionate people who just did not care. this is very disappointing game... If this game was not named Mass effect it would get an even lower rating

I've also ragequit a number of times because of enemies spawning on top of me or directly behind me and instantly vaporizing me on the base assault missions. No enemies on radar, then move forward towards a new room and suddenly there's guys in front of you, to both sides, and behind you, and out of cover in this game = dead in 2 seconds.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Mass effect has been probably the greatest rpg series I have ever played in my life. It's staples are known to be a great narrative driven story, with player choices shaping the game world around them, as well as having multiple companions you can meet and know very well each with their own interesting background. Gameplay was always considered as an afterthought, with most of the work going in the story to make each mission and choice impactful and meaningful in its own way. Because of this, I consider Mass Effect: Andromeda to be a complete and utter failure of a game.
The game has an extremely short main story that can be completed in one sitting if you focus only on the main story and do not focus on side quests. The main story is extremely dissapointing, as it shows itself to be extremely bland for the vast majority of the time. Nearing the end it finally becomes more interesting and complex, and then it suddenly ends. The game never answers many of the most central and basic questions that it brings up, like (SPOILERS): Who are the Kett? Why do they want to turn the races around them into more kett? Why does the archon want to destroy the other worlds? Where did the scourge come from? What happened to the race that built the remnant? Why did the creators of rem-tech suddenly vanish, or even create this technology in the first place? (END SPOILERS) Add onto this extremely short and generally boring main storyline that absolutely none of the characters you meet along the way are interesting or memorable in any way whatsoever, and you have an utter failure of a main storyline.
None of your companions are memorable at all, and their companion quests are generally quite dull. Almost all side quests in this game are fetch quests that are extremely boring and pointless and add nothing to the story. The narrative system in this game is pointless, as usually you will have only 2 options to speak which are often the exact same thing and mean absolutely nothing. You could choose basically any dialogue route in this game and you would end up with exactly the same response every time, which makes conversations that should have been the best part of the game an annoying chore.
Really the only good things this game has going for it are the gameplay and graphics. And by graphics I mean the graphics outside of animating the characters in cutscenes, because those are horrible. If curious, anyone can go on youtube and see massive compilations of the disgustingly bad facial animations that make even ps2 facial animations look like the work of a genius. The world itself and battle animations are gorgeous and pleasing to look at. The game has a really good combat system as well, that combine factors from previous games in a new innovative way that make firefights genuinely enjoyable.
if this game was some kind of new IP from Bioware focused on third person shooting action, I honestly think it would have been pretty decent. But Bioware made the horrible mistake of labeling this game as part of the Mass Effect series. In all of the core areas of a good RPG and as a part of the Mass Effect series this game fails completely in every key area that Mass Effect was known for. Because of that, I give this game an abysmal rating of 3. You would find a lot more fun out of this game if you didn't think it was a Mass Effect game, and you expected to buy a shooter not an RPG.

I wanted to like this game, Mass Effect was my favorite game series of all time even the ending of ME:3 wasn’t able discourage me from the franchise. But this game frustrates me more than the ending of ME:3 ever did, I am disappointed that this is the future of the series.
After beating ME:A I can’t think of anything that sticks out as unique, interesting or unpredictable in this game.

After beating ME:A I can’t think of anything that sticks out as unique, interesting or unpredictable in this game. The story is unremarkable, the new race is just an uninteresting over-designed mess, ham-fisted dialogue and lazy animations distract from what little story is interesting, and then there’s the faces, my god the faces...what have you done Bioware, what happened to everyone’s chins and why do so many women have 5’oclok shadows is that a side effect of whatever chemical they put in their hair to make it glow in the dark?
Overall the game feels like several steps back from ME:3, and comes across as unfinished or lazily done in many places. The story is just rehashing of previous Mass Effect plots haphazardly thrown together to make a story that has no other point other than to lead into a sequel or future DLC. If you’re thinking you might want this game wait, play ME:3 if you haven’t and get ME:A when it’s on sale for 9.99 and hopefully this mess will be a bit more sorted out by then.

To say this game is unfinished is the understatement of the century, and it took them 5, yes five, years to come out with this bug infested trash. Are you kidding me? Worst animations ever seen in a vid game. Not only that all female characters were 'uglyfied' just to please freaking feminism, also all human characters have dead eyes, dead emotions, bad textures, bad animation in walking running or whatever.Even without the endless bugs and glitches everywhere it would be horrible because of the characters behavior that kill every joyable aspect of the game.

I am a huge fan of Mass Effect series and I absolutely loved the previous parts, all of them. I decided not read on any reviews to make my own opinion.
Character creation process was really bad, all presets look awfull and customisation is bad, especially all hair options were terrible for my taste ... not a good start but whatever.

The color palete in first few maps was off on most characters, everything seemed so bleak to me, white turians why? What is worst everyone who I was talking to looked weird and unbeliavable. There was absolutely no emotion even in the most dramatic scenes, no sadnes, no fear, no joy. How would you talk if your father just died, like this?
But I am willing to play ansi graphics games if they are fun so actually this made me sad but didnt put me off completely and I decided to play the game anyway. After 40 hour of complete boredom and anoyence I put it off. Every single quest that I did didnt interest me. Many of them dont make any sense. I dont remember a single quest I liked.
The only NPC I remeber is peebee which I find anoying. As a completionist I tried to talk to everyone to find all quests which in this game equals ask every single colonist why did he decide to travel to Andromeda. It made me start skipping conversation, There is so much meaningless talk in this game... 90% time listen to poor voice acting, 10% game actually do something ...
The UI is absolute mess. You cant effectively find next side quests, you cant manage your weapon and armor mods, it looks like this is some restriction due to console ports or I dont see why they wold do such terribly clumsy UI. My best mod disapeared because I got more then 50 items without warning .... but to be honest I didnt care a bit about equipment, there was no equipment for my spec. I played biotic in 40 hours of gameplay I didnt get a single biotic gear upgrade and on normal dificulty there was no chalanging fight. All Biotic abilities have such long cooldown you are gonna shoot most of the time anyway.
Multiplayer is the same as in ME3. What I hate is that everyone has mics on by default and you cant mute them! After hearing heavy breathing and keyboard mashing in all my games and then someone farting all game I just couldnt bear it and quit playing it too, The same problem was in dragon age but they still think its good idea to turn everyones mic on. Why for gods sake!?
Dont buy this game, its really my worst of worst gameplay experience :-(

Not a Bioware game. It's a cheap outsourced knock off. It looks like a Rolex in the store, but once you play you realize it says Rolodex and the gold peels off.

This is not the Mass Effect we were promised in E3. This is a hot mess full of bugs, awful voice acting, and terrible face animation. You can't emotionally connect with any character as their facial expressions seem like they're oblivious to their situation and surroundings. Now at last, Bioware came back to the loyal funs with Andromeda and the outcome is far from fulfilling our long anticipation... Andromeda is a childish game with lots of action, interesting new elements, great graphics, but, lots of bugs, crappy animations, no story and especially no soul. With ugly and immature characters, lousy dialogs and boring storyline... I just finished playing the original trilogy once more and pretty sure I'll stick back there... Andromeda has nothing to offer to Mass Effect funs like me... It's only an insult to the original games... The tens and zeros are both jokes. It is IMPOSSIBLE this is a 10. It is buggy and poorly optimized, it has graphical glitches, and poor animations and textures. All facts. My opinion - its world is far inferior to Horizon Zero Dawn, Zelda Breath of the Wild, and The Witcher 3. Games need to bring a lot more now. This isn't 2006 anymore. It's clear this is not the original Bioware crew.

Wanted so bad to like this one, but ultimately it fell flat. It never was going to live up to the trilogy, but as an RPG it couldn't hold its own. Bad cc, combat watered down with loss of squad tactics, awful animations and technical performance, backward writing and interactions, etc.

It might be the biggest, most complex and action packed game in the franchise, but Mass Effect: Andromeda is also the least convincing one. The dated facial animations, the inconsistent writing quality and the regularly occurring bugs take you out of the experience too often. On top of that, BioWare has not used the concept of a whole new universe to its full potential, which often makes it feel like Mass Effect: Andromeda has not left our Milky Way at all.

While it’s underwhelming in places, there’s a lot to like as you venture into the weirder parts of Andromeda. Frequent technical issues hamper the experience a bit, as does an uninspiring main story. [June 2017, p66]
