Why so much hate on this game? This was my very first experience with the infamous universe, and I'm glad I took the risk to play this game. Is it a perfect 10 game? No. Does it deserve a 0/10? A lot of people seem to complain about repetition in this game, but what game doesn't have repetition? Doesn't matter what genre you play there is repetition in every game you play. Now that isn't to say that after both a good and evil karma play through you will still be infatuated with this game, but you will be happy that you made the time investment. I had no problem with the story. I thought the villain was done well to the point where I wanted to smash her face by the end of the game. The supporting characters were fun and full of their own quirks. Graphics are amazing, and most of all the game play is a lot of fun. This game is a great show piece for your PS4. It is worth the $60, but if you still are unsure then wait for a price drop. Either way you are going to be glad you played it. Expand

I loved the beginning of the game. The first hour or so, introduces some fine characters, and what promises to be an emotionally compelling story.

I'm the kind of player that loves to level up to the max, grind, become godly in agame, then just destroy everything in my path. So before I got too deep into the story, I collected almost every shard, and had gotten every district down to 0% DUP controlled. And I REALLY enjoyed the open world aspect, and the grind. The world is small enough that you can collect everything and level up to the max in just a couple of hours.

But then the boss fights. I didn't understand why they were SO drawn out... For a while I thought this game would be the one of the first games where I disagreed with Adam Sessler's review. But no.. 20 minute boss fights? With almost no variation. Just the same repetitive actions for each boss. All of them 10 - 20 minutes. And if you die during a boss fight, you start either the beginning or halfway. Left a terrible taste in my mouth after an otherwise very fun game.

And the absolute worst part of the game for me was the good/evil options. I completed the good paragon side early in the game due to my grinding. So I decided to try and switch to the dark side, to see if I could complete the trophy about unlocking all of the powers. But.. Instead of earning evil karma, I was just demoted, so when I actually finished the game, I missed a gold trophy completing the game with good karma. There was no explanation, or advanced warning that would happen. But I refuse to play the game again with all good karma just to collect that trophy. That left another very bitter taste in my mouth.

But other than those two problems, I really did enjoy the game. Especially when there's not many quality games for the ps4 right now. But I don't think I'll be purchasing the DLC, or the next game in the franchise. Not unless all the reviews talk about better boss fights, and improved karma system. Or if they just got rid of them, I'd be into that..

Probably the most beautiful game out there, not just due to resolution but especially due to graphical style! The combat mechanics is great, the characters are ok, the open world in it is mediocre! For PS4 it is a must own!

This is an excellent game in terms of graphics and story. There is plenty of side missions to be done, thought they can become tedious, and the paper trail promotion added some free ingame content that I didn't really expect.

The acting is a bit corny and there is some inconsistencies in the characters but overall it doesn't take away from the story. The main story can be completed in under 10 hours and the "hard" level isn't really overly hard, but expect a cheap death or two when you are swarmed.

Trophies are fun to achieve but the overall meta is pretty simple.

Definitely recommend this game for anyone looking for a few weeks to a month of game play - can do at least two play throughs to see the story from both good and evil side - especially if the price drops.

I do expect this game to be the first triple A game to be released via PSN but not for atleast a year.

it has beautiful graphics, great game-play and stellar combat but the characters lack depth, the story is to simplistic and the powers are only slight variations on Cole's electricity but hopefully first light can fix the problems i have and make the brilliant great.

This game does a great job with retaining the feel of inFamous with a good story and nice wide, open spaces. My main gripe with it is that you really don't feel engaged with the enemies (all one type with little variance), and perhaps they should have done more with fewer powers than cram as many different powers into the game as possible. Still a LOT of fun!

InFamous: Second Son is a great game. There's a good selection of powers to use and upgrade, and exploring the city never feels tiring at all because you can do it both parkour style and use your newfound powers to get about more quickly and easily. Helping, or killing citizens, be good or be bad, that's what i love about the InFamous games, and this one takes it up the next level. The story's pretty decent, nothing special by any means. What i love second most about this game is the character portraits. Delsin Rowe is 10 times more likable than Cole ever was in the previous games. He's funny, and absolutely LOVES having superpowers and that's what's so cool about him, and i don't blame him when playing the game. All of the characters from his brother Reggie and the three conduits: Hank, Fetch and Eugene. You genuinely care for them, because they're so round and unique. Even Augustine the main villain, is one my favorite video game villains of all time. There's just something about her, that makes you feel she could really be some government evil military super **** like in the movies. The voice acting and her appearance all the way from her face and hair to the trench coat and boots, she's really believable and i think SuckerPunch really made an effort with her and all of the characters not to make them forgettable like most others from the previous titles. The boss battles are also super cool, especially the last one is epic. The only downside to this game is how short it is. You're definitely gonna see the end credits roll sooner than you'd like. There's not much to do outside of the main story either. There's only five side quests in total in each of the districts and that includes the district showdowns. There are a lot of drones and people to interact with to get your karma meter filling but it's too easy and too soon you've unlocked all of your powers and districts. Even if you play the game twice as both evil and good, it's just not enough to justify the length. I really hope that Delsin Rowe will return in the sequel, i really dig him. And it would just feel too boring and degrading to just have only one superpower again when you can have four in this one. Also in the next one, there's got to be more to do both the main missions and the side ones and more to do in the world and it should be a larger map. Expand

The story revolves around Delsin Rowe and his battle against the Department of Unified Protection. Along the way Delsin gains various powers that are as enjoyable to watch as they are to use. The Karma system plays an important part in deciding what kind of play through is achieved. The choices between good and evil are left to the player and its effects will radiate through the story and the powers that can be obtained. Seattle is an absolutely gorgeous open world setting and while it lacks the abundance of large buildings that the previous games had being able to climb up the iconic Space Needle more than makes up for it. The controls feel fast and fluid with some clever uses of the new touch pad on the PlayStation 4 controller. A comprehensive power tree and added difficulty levels will keep the most dedicated players glued to their seats for hours. Overall Infamous Second Son is a very strong addition to the series and a must own for PlayStation 4 owners who want to show off what their new piece of hardware can do. Expand

This game was super fun. The graphics was superb. The story was kind of thin, but it's not bad at all. The main character is cool. The game was kind of short, and I had already won it two times, one on normal and one on hard difficulty, and got the platinum trophy in the first weekend. After I got the platinum trophy, the game wasn't that fun anymore. But it was a fantastic fun experience.

Previous main character Cole Macgrath is gone however if, like me you got the limited edition you can a small dlc which is meant to be the bridge for the two games and when you complete it you get his jacket to wear.
Gameplay is a little bit downgraded from infamous 1 and 2 and plays more like FoB. Delsin Rowe unlike Cole can fly around the city and run straight up walls, however this comes later in the game as in this new Infamous game we get 4 powers to play with. Sadly they all feel the same mostly, ya there are differences between them but for the most part they are the same. Oh and the last power concrete you get for the final boss and post-story so you are left with a new toy and nothing to do with it.
Graphically this game is amazing. There are incredible particle effects for each power and the draw distance is great. Honestly Infamous Second Son is probably the best looking game on ps4 as of writing.
And the story is pretty good but a bit predictable, I can't guarantee you will like it but I sure did. And really I think all the people who say the characters are bland and 1 dimensional just glanced at them. They all have good backstories and the facial expressions a great.
But I have one big complaint and that is that the moral choice has next to no effect. It doesn't affect the story much and all you get for maxing out one way is a new jacket to wear. The only thing it determines is a few different missions and what ending you get. And that ending may sound good but it happends on what you pick at the start of the game, so no the morals in this game aren't very good.

The game is brilliant. Graphics are great, gameplay is great and the story is pretty good. Gameplay is really fun. Its a nice break from traditional generic FPS game, although I do like those. My only gripe was that it wasn't long enough. I could just keep playing and playing and playing. It may have been 10 times longer than say a CoD campaign, but it was so good that I just wanted more.

In a game like this where neither the atmosphere nor gameplay succeed story becomes incredibly important. Unfortunately, what's here is forgettable.

As negative as my review is, I still feel that inFamous: Second Son is worth it to the right person. If you happened to enjoy inFamous 2, you will very likely enjoy this latest iteration. It suffers from the same issues, but manages to deliver a better visual experience.

But in my opinion, the game falls short of being recommendable at the $59.99 MSRP.

Its not a hard game other than a few places (He Who Dwells is NOT my favorite part) and is pretty forgiving on normal difficulty. The dialogue is well written, the story is well done and very well voice acted and the motion capture is just fantastic. This is easily one of the best launch titles for either the PS4 or the XBO and if you enjoy open world action and being a hero, this is a game you should not miss! The game gets dinged for the supposed "morale choice" system as it is not a choice beyond the first one - once you have made that choice your ultimate power is driven by sticking to that initial decision. There is no substantial consequence to your decisions either so the entire idea is mostly an after thought. ALSO NOTE: The Paper Trail FREE DLC is so very, very well done. With that addition this has to be a 9.5 - for metacritic I am revising this to a 10.

TL;DNR: 10 - Great story with superb voice acting, truly next gen graphics, great game play mechanics. However the meaningless "morality" system appears to be an after thought and should have been better developed, serviceable soundtrack, great atmosphere and overall a fun game with just a few annoying technical control issues (He Who Dwells will sometime have you run backwards despite pushing forward on the stick causing you to die - just as an example) in places but otherwise a great launch title for the next gen PS4. Recommended for those who like to roam a bit and also experience a story - not Mass Effect level of story telling but a good story none the less.

Technology/engine: 10 - The rendering is amazing and really brings Seattle to life. There was not a moment of delay or tearing - phenomenal engine behind this game with great depth, clarity and detail.

AI: 7 - Not the brightest nor the dumbest AI, its passable.

Graphics: 10 - Superb and very realistic graphics rendered flawless by the engine. Great use of motion capture and excellent, seamless integration of cut scenes.

Sound: 10 - The sound is fantastic with great distance and depth recognition and perfect sound effects and good use of the mini speaker on the dual shock controller.

Soundtrack: 8 - beyond the Nirvana cover there is not much out of the ordinary nor off putting about the soundtrack. I won't go out and buy it, but it was never a real factor in the game. Appropriate intensities to fit the situations.

Voice acting: 10 - Excellent voice acting all around. Well delivered dialogue that is very believable and appropriate.

    Crafting: N/A

Customization: N/A - Very minor part of the game - Custom vests are available as your free sectors (not very intuitive for changing them though) and you get to spend points as you acquire shards for the abilities that interest you. Not a lot of depth here but that is okay for the game that it is.

Game play systems: 10 - Simply fun game play with lots of side missions and quests. Paper trail -available about 1/3 of the way through, is a nice addition and works seamlessly with the PS4 and a tablet or PC. The abilities make sense and the game is forgiving if you mess up - just run and hide until you regenerate health. Great fun all around. The morality system was meaningless fluff however after your initial choice.

Controls: 7 - The controls are flawless except in the areas where they need to be flawless - boss encounters. I had a number of deaths due to controller errors and lack of responsiveness in boss battles and that is my only gripe.

Story:9 - Well written and great pacing to the game's story.

    Multiplayer: N/A

First thing i noticed routing the audio through my headset was the break up and cracking in sound, quite annoying and definitely noticeable when your roaming and not hung up in action. Also the mechanics seem off. When using your powers to traverse around your environment there is no fluidity when sprawling up walls and over obstacles. it feels very stuttey, not at all seamingless which i would come to expect. Not at all like last gen games such as Arkum City or Tomb Raider to name a few, were the transitions of your character from objects and environment seemed solid and smooth.
Then there is the in game combat, when you attack your enemy it seems and sounds like your hitting them with pillows. Its very diluted combat and one that gets boring fast.
For £50 i expected something more solid, granted the visuals are immense but the gameplay is average and the reason i am so dissapointed is because i had high hopes for this game

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Infamous: Second Son has been heavily hyped as the reason to buy a PS4. This is in no small part due to the fact that it is a sequel to a popular Playstation series, has a unique set of gameplay altering abilities and (probably its most important hype grabber) is absolutely beautiful. So, is Second Son the essential purchase that everyone has made it out to be? In short, yes. In long, here's why.

First and foremost, the story is utterly gripping. The first two games had an alright protagonist in the form of Cole. He was likeable enough and began to get better in the sequel, but most of the time he had the personality of a wet sponge. Delsin Rowe is easily better, yet this isn't highly apparent as you begin the game. He seems to be a bit of a hipster and the way he talks to himself and drops one-liners reminded me of Jason from Far Cry 3- he was the only thing I didn't like about that game. However you will soon warm to him, as he begins to understand how serious his situation really is. This is helped by Troy Baker's excellent voice acting (he seems to be in everything these days). Delsin is part of a Native American tribe and his adventure begins when he absorbs the powers of an escaped Conduit. With his tribe members sickened by evil DUP leader Brooke Augustine, Delsin needs tto travel to Seattle and absorb more powers if he is going to have any hope of defeating Augustine and her loyal band of soldiers. The story is more relatable than the original games' whole Beast "thing" and Travis Willingham does a fine job alongside Baker as Delsin's kind- hearted brother, Reggie Rowe. The story only gets better as you get deeper, meeting more conduits and absorbing more powers (of which there are four). This is a nice sep up for the series.

Content wise, you can get around 25 hours out of the game, with both sides taking around 12.5 hours to 100%. The campaign consists of 20 missions and after that you must clear out all of the 13 Seattle districts from DUP control. The activities required to do this are repeated and the side mission structure of the previous games is pretty well gone. However, I didn't mind the new approach. The control centres are hard to beat and the collectibles are all marked out. The various secret agent and camera activities test your reactions and the graffiti minigames are surprisingly fun and are a good showcase of the controller's new abilities. In fact, the controller gets a bit of a showcase, with the touchpad used for draining and switching powers, the triggers used for shooting and the back light used for the representation of the morality you have chosen.

The open world itself isn't massive, but it is dense, realistic and very, very beautiful. The particle effects are absolutely stunning and while the game rarely takes you into interiors, sometimes you can even see into certain buildings. This gives a sense of a three dimensional space and is more effective than the 2D fronts or the empty lighted windows. Seattle probably isn't the most exceptional open world of all time, but it is technically stunning.

Gameplay wise, the game is fine tuned and an absolute blast to play. Delsin's power is to take other powers (kind of like Rogue but without all the comas and sickness). You get four powersets across the course of the game, with smoke being the first one. It's similar to Cole's electricity and is like the assault rifle/ shotgun combo of Delsin's powers. It's good enough, but it is neon where things get really good. It plays out like the sniper class and while it may not have the best Karmic streak attack (these are clearout moves and smoke is the best btw), it is a beautiful power and when fully upgraded, will enable you to get around in no time due to the Quicksilver like super running. Video is still the best power though, due to its SMG qualities. The summoning of angels and demons is crazy, but cool and the quick move option is enjoyable. As for the rocket attack- it's deadly and instead of grenades, you get to turn invisible. The final power is given when you defeat the final boss. Concrete is a rehash of the previous powers and is fairly disappointing. The traversal isn't as smooth as what we had with Cole, but the quick move options with the powers make up for this and the melee is finally sorted out, making you feel like a Conduit Kratos.

Many feel that the game has a dated morality system. After the Witcher's "grey' style this is a little true, but being good is still a stragically fun experience as you try to avoid casualties and being bad is a blast! As for the choices- they're pretty harrowing and will certainly make you feel sorry for Delsin when h only has too options. The new karmic opportunities are also cool and the powers slightly change depending on your allegiance.

Second Son isn't groundbreaking, but it is a beautiful, enjoyable adventure that provides a cool protagonist, a great story and amazing gameplay. Now I eagerly await the fourth game.

Game looks and runs amazing. The story could be stronger, and the lasting appeal is not high once you play through twice for trophies. With that said, this is an amazing experience. It is about time one of the next gen consoles released a game worth playing, and this is it. The mechanics are spot on. Very fun to play.

If they make a sequel to this game I sure hope they add a single Muti-player element, if they would of added one in this game I would of gave the game an 8 or 9. People who give this game a 10 are just asking for lazy developers to not give a game a multi-player element, or any sort of longevity.

This game is just sooo AWESOME, fun and funny at times, It really does show off the power of the Ps4, with so many lighting effects, and spectacular horizons, although a couple of downsides were the story little character development with a weak ending, although it does just make up for this by creating an awesome superhero with cool powers!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Infamous second son is a great game and one that every ps4 owner should atleast try. The game is so much fun to play that wont regret purchasing it. The game looks absolutly fantastic, one of the best looking game to date. I'm not much a graphic guy but I appriecate beautiful games and Infamous is one hell of beauty. Not only does it really looked good but the gameplay is so good. You will never get borred in this game because there is always something you can do and your imagination is your only limitation. one reason why you never will get borred is the joy of getting a new power, just when u starting to get tired of a power set you will get a new one. You can updrage all your powers by collecting shards and by doing so you will get new types of attacks/ abilities.
I dont know why people complain about the story, it is not as awful as some make it to bee. Sure its not of the best stories in game history but it certianly is not bad. I really loved the relationship between the brothers and they made me laugh few times. But the choices in this game can be a bit dissapoint as it does not impact the game so much. THe choices are like black and white and there is nothing in the middle, either its a good act or a evil act. I really wished it was not so obvious which is good and which is evil. I enjoyed the moral choises in infamous 2 more and I felt they had more impact on the game.

Overall the game is fantastic and I give this game 10 because it dos get a lot of things right. i have played over 30 hours and for me, I have enjoyed every minute of it and at the end of the day thats what counts. I really hope we get to see another infamous in the future. If you own a ps4 and wondering if you should get this game then I highly recomend you to do so. Now back to Seattle!

I highly recommend this game to anyone who can make the jump to a PlayStation 4. The game looks fantastic and plays great. However, the game follows tropes of its genre, both good and bad. The worst trope, or crutch, is the abuse of wave after wave of guys with machine guns who constantly shoot at you until you end up hiding in an alley until you recover.

For me, the super hero game gun problem began with "Crackdown". Despite the utter lack of a narrative "Crackdown" was a fun game because for the first time, you could jump anywhere and toss any person or vehicle. Yet, even at its best, "Crackdown" constantly subject the player to enemies that simply stood their ground and firing guns with an inexhaustible supply of bullets. This horizontal hail of bullets continued in "Just Cause 2", where the player character had two super abilities: 1) an infinitely re-usable grappling hook and 2) an infinitely re-useable parachute. The bad guys only had one super ability, telescopic x-ray vision that let them shoot the player character from any distance with any weapon. The game "Batman: Arkham City" solved the gun problem by mostly removing guns from the game. The story device was turning party of Gotham City into a prison a la "Escape from New York", and guns are not allowed into prisons. Although guns appear later in the game, Batman is provided some bullet resistant body armor and stealthy techniques for handling gun wielding enemies. At the very least, "Batman: Arkham City looked like the first super hero game that was not born out of a first person shooter. None of these games nor any super hero game to follow includes the simplest solution: a bullet proof hero. The one game I know of where the player character can be bullet proof is "Saints Row IV", though to be fair this attribute is only unlocked after completing most of the game and the entire game is a parody of other games.

"Infamous Second Son" does not make a character bullet proof. Nor can players truly fly. The player character has access to 4 sets of super powers, with something like 20 distinct powers in the entire game. None of the powers are very helpful when the main enemy is the ubiquitous faceless soldier wielding a machine gun. And the entire time you play, no matter what the power, the defense to getting shot is running away. Hard to look feel like a super hero when you're running away.

Another missed opportunity is the lack of differentiation for super powers. All four powers have a same-y-ness to them. You can do a quick movement, shoot enemies, disable enemies, or fire an enormous missile. The color changes but that's about. The big differentiator is the power of invisibility, and though fun, it won't clear the street of jack booted thugs. Most disappointing is the concrete power. You will see bad guys put their concrete power to creative uses. When you get the concrete power, your back to using the same few attacks, only less interesting. Sucker Punch is a studio that is apparently not brimming with creativity.

The story in "Infamous Second Son" is nice change of pace from some of the bonkers, surprise laden stories of AAA games in the last half decade. The highlight is the interaction of Delsin and his brother Reggie. Though the game is constantly teasing with a dark side, the interplay is funny, heartwarming, and sometimes hilarious. My one gripe is with how the story deals with the antagonist. Early in the game the antagonist violates federal law by torturing members of an Indian tribe on their reservation. Terrorism laws are one thing. Treaties are another. Later one, the player character has ample opportunity to defeat the antagonist in what could be considered the longest boss battle in video game history, except, of course, "Metal Gear Solid" took that prize back in the days of the original Playstation. Instead of playing to the story and ending the fight at the first available opportunity, the game forces the player to keep the fight going for no apparent reason other than padding the playtime. My suggesting for the developers: when you have a story that is more creative than the game play, let the story take over.

Final thoughts. For better or worse, the game uses every trick the PS4 controller has to offer: a color changing light, in-controller speaker, touchpad, and accelerometer. All of these uses seem tacked-on and gimmicky. The accelerometer, for instance, is only used to paint graffity, and even then, only within a stencil created by the developer. Why have a path for hate filled psychopathic killers? Despite the large open world setting, 100% completion is possible in 20 to 30 hours. The game looks great but the environment is standard non-destructible and the NPC models are straight out of the last generation. The InfamousPaperTrail meta game is expertly done.

After looking at most of the reviewers giving the game such a low score, I realized they gave most (if not every) PS4 games a 0 but Xbox One games 10...

That there is the problem with the Metacritic scoring of users. Half of the "reviews" aren't reviews. Just a bunch of fan boys. And just to try and get the game to a respectable rating, the people that actually enjoyed the game BECAUSE THEY PLAYED IT, have to give a rating of 10...which this game is not.

By now everyone that's interested in the game has seen some kind of actual game play. If it interests you go out and play the game. The game play can get repetitive but 90% of games get repetitive at some point. If you own a PS4 do yourself a favor and pick this game up. It'll keep you entertained long enough to get your $60 worth.

I usually feel let down by sandbox adventure games. aside from GTA, which set the precedent that base my opinions off of, most of them sound great in theory and have you daydreaming about the possibilities for awesomeness, and don't really deliver. Infamous actually surpassed my expectations, and really turned out to be a gem.

combat: this is what really shines. the powers are SO MUCH FUN. when you can find a game with combat so good, you go out of your way to look for non-progress related encounters just to experience the gameplay, you know you've got something special. the four different powers are each unique, and feel like their own skillset. i dont see the exact same skills with different colored spell effects, i see four entirely different skill trees, each bringing their own strengths to the table. each tier has its own method of travel, active skills, and passives. they use this as a sell point to the game, and rightfully so, the powers are damn cool.

story: involves your typical stuff; hero, villian, conflict, tragedy. the characters are voiced over nicely and you can connect with some of them, which will help keep you absorbed in the plot. i won't spoil anything, but it's a good time.

graphics: i dont normally list graphics as a bullet point in my reviews, as i would play a 2d side scroller if the game was good, but infamous: second son requires recognition for its beauty. i can confidently tell you, this is the nicest looking game i have ever played. ever. ever ever ever. the game takes place in a scale model of seattle, and the scenery is literally immaculate. coming from ps3 and 360, i was in the mindset of "how much better could it really get?". the first couple of launch games are all ports, and even killzone as nice as it looks, was only marginally better than what we already had. this is that first one that will blow your mind, the one you want to have in the disc tray when showing off your new system. spell effects, character models, and the world in general look superb.

cons: my only complaint is the length of the game. i picked this up the tuesday it released, and beat it on saturday of that week. i made it a point to take my time also. between the gorgeous graphics, the phenomenal gameplay, and the above average story line, i just wish it would have lasted longer. the good news is, our new main character cole left us off with plenty of questions to be answered; i think we will see him again for a sequel.

all in all, great game. whether you are an 8 year old girl or a 75 year old man, you're going to have a good time with this one. if you are debating on grabbing a ps4, go ahead and pick it up, because we have reached the point where next-gen is in in full swing. a legit catalog of titles are now available (including several exclusives- digital download and retail), there are quite a few blockbuster AAA titles on the immediate horizon, and the next-gen only titles have started to release. just make sure that you pick up infamous: second son to go along with your shiny, new console. it's worth buying the system for.

Now, on to the gameplay. Even though the story is pretty short, it kept me intrigued through the whole game. It was not too serious of a story like the last two inFAMOUS games, which I kinda liked since it was set in a modern city in which the civilians in it weren't too drastically in danger than the other games. The character development was also very well done with each different character in the game feeling widely different in terms of skill and personality. The combat in Second Son is the best I have seen in a video game. It is just so fast paced and smooth, and if you can master a power good enough, you can see yourself wiping away through enemies with a grin on your face. All 4 powers in the game varies very differently, changing up your combat procedures frequently. Was using smoke to take out a bunch of enemies but ran out of juice? Drain some neon and take a more tactical and slow approach to wipe out your enemies. The karma system in the game did not offer as much as I expected it too in terms of power, but the story did change a lot from good to evil.

When you beat the rather short but very fun story in Second Son, you are left with the open world of Seattle to roam around and finish all the side quests. The side quests of the game are very repetitive and aren't actually quests, but rather small mini games like finding the hidden enemy in a crowd of civilians or spray painting a good/evil image on a wall. These can be done fast and when the whole open world is completed of objectives, you don't really have anything to do, sadly. There is the free "Paper Trail" DLC that allows you to do some really cool detective work on a computer and hunt down the criminals in game, which I found very hard (a good thing) but a cool idea at its own pace.

This game is one of the most enjoyable of next-gen so far and all PlayStation 4 owners must own the game! I give this game a 9/10.

Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Not even half of what it was hyped up to be. Other than the graphics (which were impressive), this game is a boring mess that fails to deliver in every way imaginable. For a game that is supposed to be centered around having superpowers, it certainly doesn't make you feel powerful at all. Too often you are surrounded by a horde of enemies that haven't both guns and, for some reason, superpowers (which is stupid, considering that they're supposed to be hunting down anybody with superpowers). I found myself being forced to run away from fights while I wait for my health to regenerate. Seriously? The combat itself feels broken and forces you to play a certain way. Mêlée combat, though available, is almost never an option because you just get shot by more enemies when you attempt it, forcing the game to become a shooter with weak shooter mechanics. If there were at least some kind of targeting system, it might have been more bearable. Additionally, the gameplay is repetitive. Time after time you are forced to go to some D.U.P. controlled area, wipe out the enemies, and blow something up, all while fighting the same boring enemies. The powers which you are given make little sense. Even though it is supposed to be a comic book style game with super powers, that doesn't mean the powers should be something stupid. Video powers? Are you serious with that? There is a power set that lets you drain the power out of TVs and summon creatures from the screen. It makes no sense at all. Finally there is the story. It is poorly written and weak in almost every aspect. I found it to be predictable and full of plot holes. As mentioned previously, the primary antagonist, which is tasked with hunting down conduits/bio-terrorists are themselves people who possess superpowers. This already shows that there is a giant hole in the foundation of the plot. On top of that, the characters are boring, generic, and not memorable in the slightest. The back and forth nature of the relationship between Delsin and Reggie that switches between being Reggie being supportive of Delsin and treating him as a freak because of his abilities makes no sense, and bugged me throughout the entire game. For all that Infamous: Second Son tries to do, it fails in almost every way. Not at all worth buying. Expand

Gorgeous-looking game that pulls out all the stops when it comes to visuals. That being said, the story is only okay and it's shorter than I was hoping it would be. I'm not as big of a fan of Delsin as I was of Cole McGrath, but Second Son has a bit more of a darker tone than the previous two in the series, which I really enjoyed.

I liked the idea of the Paper Trail missions, but they ended up bugging out and not giving me the second waypoint on my map, so I missed them all until after I had beat the campaign and looked up where the objective marker was supposed to be; doing them after the game is done is way less interesting, and the puzzles online a little more tedious than I would've liked
    - The story has some admirable moments, but the overall rules of the world are pretty absurd and taken way less seriously than the game pretends; it tries to be very dramatic about all the scenarios in play, but the actual logical progression of those events is bordering on nonsensical at times

My other negative is the Paragon and Renegade options. This isnt a game which allows you to choose both. You have to follow one or the other. While this does gain more replayablity, in the grand scheme of things he renegade option never seem to make any sense.

But still, this game is still heaps of fun, a game you can spend hours with, without even knowing it. It also has the best use of the PS4 controller we have so far seen.

The story takes place 7 years after the events of the second game. Things are worse now and a new organization called the DUP lead by villain Brook Augustine capture and imprison all individuals with super powers called conduits labelled as bioterrorist and do experiments on them.

After a truck carrying 3 conduits crashes, two of them escape while the third comes into contact with Delson Rowe, the main character of the game who is a graffiti artist and a Native American. Delson learns that he is also a conduit that can absorb power from other conduits.

His main mission, with the help of his brother who is a police officer is to go to Seattle, to the main headquarters and absorb Augustine’s powers to save the tribe from dying after she used her powers on them.

The world of infamous: Second Son is visually impressive. This time, you will be exploring with new powers. Unlike before, you will get the powers by absorbing what is closest to you. This new system adds to the diversity in the gameplay as you will have to adapt quickly to the changes while battling. Smoke power is gained by absorbing chimneys and flaming fire. Neon Powers from neon signs and video from television. Each power can be upgraded by collecting shards scattered around the map creating even bigger powers which is a lot of fun. The city of Seattle has a lot of small nice details; however, the enemies aren’t varied and sadly, there weren’t enough boss battles.

The main campaign is around 12-13 hours and the side missions get repetitive after a while with little to no difference in the difficulty. The mortality system is back and very straight forward. You can be either good or bad and nothing in between. Even though the morality system plays well with the story, the choices this time around have no real impact. The game would have had a more meaning full connection with the player if the obvious red and blue color were removed and more options were added to create some tensions while choosing, leading to surprises instead of it being clear what you will play as from the very beginning.

I found the characters in this game to be enjoyable especially the main villain, Brooke Augustine who plays brilliantly adding to the overall suspense. Infamous: Second Son is a good game but it could have been better, let’s hope a sequel can fix some issues and let the game reach its true potential. The story wasn’t memorable and the morality system was weak; however, the action and fun gameplay make up for this and creates an overall enjoyable game.

The first time I beat the campaign for the hero trophy, the game was a masterpiece (in my opinion) But the second time I played on expert and did the evil storyline, the major cracks in the game started to show. So without further ado, here we go.

The Good: First let me just get this out of the way, this game is BEAUTIFUL, from the stunning weather effects to the top notch facial animations, everything about this game screams next gen. The actual gameplay makes you feel like a comic book hero, you will be running on walls, throwing bombs of smoke, and flying across the landscape. I really loved most of the characters, and also the amazing soundtrack.

The Bad: As much as I love Troy Baker's performance in this game, I just couldn't like Delsin Rowe, the new protagonist. He seemed annoying and I cringed when he made jokes. The choices are definitely a step down as only the hero story fits the character, being evil feels like some cheap gimmick in an alternate universe, and the AWEFUL ending definitely made all of it worse. The city of Seattle also feels empty and the citizens seem like mindless drones that do nothing but run away when you use your powers. I can say Cole's story was definitely more interesting.

Verdict: Infamous Second Son is a decent game with great graphics and a fun world to mess around in. But the lackluster story and empty world sadly bring this game down. Infamous Second Son is well deserved 7 out of 10 :)

Its graphics? The previous inFamous games were superb and I think there was a good reason inFamouns is in tiny letters and Second Son overtakes the label. As though they felt bad even calling it inFamous. I think this was supposed to appeal to dudebros who just bought a PS4 and only play "certain types" of games. For the well rounded gamer, this is poison. I went in with high hopes and was constantly insulted... as a person. I don't like to be around characters like Delsin in real life, why would I want to play one in a game?

If you couldn't guess, my main complaint about this game would be the characters. They aren't likable at all, none of them. Your main character Delsin is kind of an angry arrogant teenager in a 25 year old's body who thinks he's Banksy and tries his hardest to be cool but he's just a douche. He's whiny, sad, lonely, abrasive, self absorbed, and incredibly sexist. The writing of his script shows they not only don't care about this character but whoever wrote him must think this giant sack of dung is the coolest person in the world. He forces his brother to constantly go against his own principles and do wrong by questioning his manliness and his devotion to family.

The female protagonist is super cliche and basically her only focus is blaming her drug problems on pushers and killing them off. She's petty, small minded, easy, and I guess embodies a drug addict but still not a character I want in this game. I kept playing, even with how much I hated all the characters. The worst part is everyone is calling you on your phone all the time to complain at you and you just get whiny at them and the ringtone is just horribly annoying.

The city design is terrible. Everything looks the same, there's no compass direction on the map indicator, the layout making getting around over complicated, the "fast travel" stations only work when you go to one so they're halfway useless, and the change of day doesn't change the city. I kept playing even though the game was clunky. The city was just a low point and it made me miss the amazing open world designs in pretty much every other game like this.

There are still bugs after patching. Some of the missions don't trigger so you have to restart them several times. Sometimes double the enemies spawn. Randomly guys will be much more active about shooting you so sometimes it's super easy and other times you get shot to death in a couple seconds. There is a glitch where spray painting makes people stop shooting you as well.

So when did I stop playing? How about the tedious and terribly designed boss battles and fighting system. How about the niche overuse of new PS4 control methods? That's what usually hurts a game. When you just can't enjoy playing it after you remove everything else. The melee is basic and the most powerful but it's so badly done. Shooting powers give almost no damage and headshots take ridiculous accuracy, which your character doesn't have. You can take 20 shots and easily miss a guy you have your reticle right on. Your character goes down fast so you have to hit, shoot, hide, wait, hit, hide, shoot, hide, and repeat that for the entire game. You don't ever feel powerful. Worst of all your super ability takes about 15 seconds to watch and isn't skipable. It keeps me from even wanting to use it.

There's also the quirky things they tried to do but just became obnoxious. The touchpad is used for several things and it just seems stupid like Sony demanded they use it. The spray painting is just pathetic and the mechanics for that are clunky as well. The sound coming out of the controller becomes annoying. The phone ringing, absorbing things, just any loud high pitched annoying sound they could throw through that thing at way too high of a volume, they did.

So why would you like or play this game? I don't know, maybe you're capable of overlooking all of the terrible qualities on your wasted money. The story is not even redeemable, it's a rip-off of X-Men. If you look at the competent well done reviews by the more reputable people around gaming, you find mixed or negative feelings toward this game. It's just bad and I only enjoyed the first 20 minutes, until you start getting powers and become a needy child wanting more and more. Because all you care about is more powers so you can be cool and tough.

Bad story, gameplay, mechanics, design, and characters make it one of the all time worst games I've played. I just hope they remaster the first two inFamous games for PS4 so I

The characters are difficult to care for, and there's almost no connection to them. The gameplay is fun, the various superpowers are entertaining but eventually grow boring. There's not much enemy variation, the enemies are limited to a few different types throughout the game. The city you are left to free roam in does not feel alive. The citizens walking the streets do not feel like they could be real, and the people driving cars never get out of them and just aimlessly drive around the city. The choices that you make don't feel like they matter, and it's the same with your karma meter. There's just not much life in this game's city and the actions that you make. It didn't feel like the karma actions that I made affected the city at all, and that what I did was useless and didn't affect anything. Also, the different powers felt almost like a rehash of the same thing, with the skill tree unlocks being almost the same. However, the game was fun, and it was entertaining to play. Unless you are a hardcore inFamous fan, or find the game relatively cheap enough, I would personally not buy it. This game scores a 6/10, it is a good game. Expand

It'll get lower marks from gamers like me - gamers who cant stand being made hostage to cutscenes you cant skip (replayability would suck to have to sit at the mercy of the forgettable dialogue but even first time playthrough was painful having sit through these scenes - and my gaming time is limited as it is).... characters you'll find wanky (try-hard skater bro down with the system yo lead character isn't inspiring) and yet surprisingly empty cliche'd personalities throughout... and gameplay mechanics I found felt they lacked punch and weight, simplified game mechanics in general which can work when other elements hold it together. In Infamous Second Son I found myself rolling my eyes, not caring, going through the motions..

If the concerns above would irritate you, this game wont hold your attention and wont get better as the game progresses. You'll be sighing and thinking you could be spending your time doing something better with your life.. never a good thing if a game does that to you from the start...

Good looking game, perfect fluidity, but god, too much repetition. Maybe I made an overdose with inFamous 1 & 2 which were great games by the way.
I would recommend it if you never played inFamous.

Interesting characters, the gameplay itself is solid. However, it does not perform as well as the other infamous games, the graphics are good, and the story is nothing to write home about, but if you are looking for a solid game with a smooth controls it might be something for you

As an 360 only gamer last generation , I wanted to know what all the fuss was about when i heard from my friends about the Infamous series , if this is what Infamous is like then I don't know what all the fuss was about.

Seattle is not a great candidate for an Open world to be designed around , and to many gamers outside the United States it seems like we're left out of the loop when we are supposed to know what monuments such as the Space Needle is and we should be treating it like a huge deal that we're climbing the Space Needle.
I didn't have many problems with infamous : Second Son's story , I thought it wasn't great but wasn't too bad either , i think the voice acting for Delsin , Reggie and Fetch were good. I don't understand the character designs of some of this universe though , they seem to me to be incredibly boring or trying too hard to be dark or edgy (Fetch's backstory).

I think Sucker Punch should be applauded for thinking out of the box in terms of powers that Delsin uses as I haven't seen any of these in other games before or open worlds that i can think of

There is little difference between the difficulties offered and you might aswell play on Expert difficulty the first way through and what little replayability that is left for a second playthrough is down to morality choices.

I thought the sidesquests were largely uninteresting and boring , the graffiti sidequest seemed like it was put in to have some sort of touchpad control inserted into the game.

It's a short game but it does at least give a few boss fights but you rarely feel under threat of being killed.

Conclusion : Infamous Second Son is an okay game , I think the setting is uninteresting along with some of the cast but it has a decent story and good voice acting tieing together mediocre gameplay and decent audio

Скучная однообразная игра, как в плане сюжета, так и в плане геймплея и побочных заданий.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. inFamous Second Son is a great game, I'll say that. Graphics are stunning (this is next gen, of course you need to push the consoles limits) likable protagonist. Finished it on both Hero and inFamous, however once you beat the game, there isn't much doing and you will possibly leave the game in your shelf for a long time. Expand

    Negatives
    - Delsin Rowe the main character is unmemorable and not enough interesting to carry the story
    - Story is very predictable and bland
    - Disappointing morality system with a small number of choices
    - The gameplay and missions is fun but quickly gets repetitive
    - The enemies are largely interchangeable with similar boss battles

    Final verdict
inFamous: Second Son is good but unmemorable game. If you played the previous games than you basically played this one as well. Except the two previous games had superior story with interesting twists and surprises. The gameplay hasn't changed much from the previous titles but it's better especially the movement. The new powers are fun and make you feel like a superhuman so the game succeeds in some way. Also the game looks stunning on PS4 so if you want the game to show off what the console can do, it's this one. Overall the game is fine but you won't remember it for long.

It definitely isn’t one of those games you talk about years after its release, but it showcases PS4’s capabilities well and in contrast to Killzone: Shadow Fall also does something else – guarantees fun from the beginning till the end. [CD-Action 05/2014, p.58]

Fun romp, beautifully rendered and executed. Fantastic superpowers make up for the lack of depth. [Issue#241]

inFamous: Second Son is not a bad sandbox game at all! Serves as an interlude while waiting the heavy hitters to arrive. [Apr 2014]
