Grim Fandango Remastered is a successful attempt to make one of the best games ever playable on current gen PCs and consoles. But that is about all, as the improvements on the source material are minimal: the reason to buy this game is only because of the comments of the makers and the big collection of artwork.

A great noir adventure let down by technical issues, and features missing from its superior PC counterpart.

Grim Fandango was a fantastic adventure game 17 years ago, and it's still the same today. We just hoped the remaster to be up to it, and it's not totally the case.

Grim Fandango is still one hell of an adventure, even after all these years. The problem with this remastered version is that Double Fine has done very little to make it tastier for the modern player. The result is a very nice game with very poor visuals and a “remaster” that tastes like easy cash.

Grim Fandango is a tough game to evaluate, because it comes with so much baggage. If you’re already a fan of the game, the few new additions are nice – but aside from the commentary, they’re far from indispensable.

It's the swan song of a genre and a generation, and that bestows this remastered version with an incredible added value. When it comes to the quality of the polish though, you won't find much effort put into resuscitating the old glory, and that's a shame.

It makes it all the sadder that this remastering shows little love or respect for the original and fails to gather in the new audience it may deserve.

Grim's lack of availability may have helped it achieve sainthood, so its baffling puzzles may comes as a shock to many. If you can tolerate frustration, though, Schafer's final LucasArts production provides one of the best adventure game stories ever crafted—just be sure to keep an FAQ nearby.

It's clear to see Grim Fandango was a great game in its day with superb characterisation and humour shining through. Getting through its logic-defying puzzles though is like staying in hell for a few days.

The core game is fun, but I would recommend sticking with one platform throughout and rotating save slots.

The Remastered version features a better model quality, dynamic lighting, re-recorded musics and fantastic commentary all over the game!
I wish they could have done the game 16:9 just like CAPCOM did with Resident Evil HD but still, the game is really awesome and makes u forget about these sort of things !
this issue only bothers mostly in PS VITA version due to the small screen actually.
I thikn Grim Fandango re-release is a really nice work! hope to see more Remastered classic adventures on ps4

This is one case where you can say they don't make games like this anymore , and that's a shame. I played it when it first came out in the late 90's and I was excited to see it on my ps4. The characters are charming, the setting and mood is perfect, and the puzzles are difficult but not too frustating. Completing the game without using a walkthough is highly recomended for the true gamers out there.

to dionysus777 I read your reviews. They were most likely deleted because you're giving the game a 0 when you havn't even played it. If you're having a tech issue downloading the game, maybe it's psn..

So I'm not a gamer who has no appreciation for older games like Grim Fandango. But after playing this snoozer for several hours I can honestly say I don't see what the fuss is about. The world is far from immersive, with only small clusters of explorable space available at any given time. The animation is okay I suppose but not really my cup of tea. Using skeletons as a model doesn't allow for much variety and it all becomes monotonous visually after a very short while. But my biggest BY FAR is the obtuseness of the puzzles. Some of them are so obscure as to be virtually impossible to figure out logically. But worst of all, there is really no sense of reward when you do. It's just more of the same each time without increasing the fun factor. This would be worthwhile if it was free but it worth paying for at any price in my opinion. Oh - and the remastered version is almost identical to the original - really no reason to buy it again if you bought the original. Full Review »
