Expertly developed by Polyphony, as a tool for gathering tears from bitter millenials and children, who seem unable to understand the value in a product, unless it's aimed squarely at them.

Gran Turismo Sport is not Gran Turismo 2 on the PlayStation, it's also not Forza 7, if you go into it with a clean understanding of this new philosophy, there's a great competitive online racer

    Obviously they lied.

So I think this game deserves a 0/10.

    Big step back from GT6.
Poor number of tracks and most tracks are locked and you can't play right away.
Less car than first GT. No possibility to upgrade cars.
Lack of campaign mode. It's almost purpose is an online vs racing game and nothing more.

    Very disappointing.
Loved the GT series but nothing like old GT.
This is only for people who want to go online race and pay a subscription to play.
Limited game play for single players, poor lineup of cars and very few tracks to choose from.

This game is a load of fun, and I have played every GT in the series. While I wish there were more tracks and cars, I understand what Polyphony was going for with this game before I bought it. Hell, they even released a demo. So I do not care for others complaining that this is not GT7. You should had done research and tried the demo.

That said, the game has become addicting. To me, it is the OverWatch a online sim-racing. I get home, relax, and then spend about 2 hours a day progressing through Arcade races, getting better at the Daily Online races, and earning credits to build my garage collection. I haven’t even started the “campaign”, and I have 8 hours in the game already. GT has always been about getting the best time on a track and beating the opponent. That means racing the same track over and over until you nail it. I am 3 hours into Suzuka with a GR.4 car, and I still have not hit 1st place on a Professional Arcade race. I am great at setting hot laps, but I need work knowing when to pass people legally, or get the most out of an apex. This game pushes for these things. I don’t need to beat AI over and over again when, instead, I could be getting closer and closer to 1st place against real people, who all try to race clean and fair.

If you enjoy GT physics, sounds, and presentation, then you will get that here. I came for the Time Trials and the fun online competition where people try to be good racers. I have done the whole campaign thing 6 times now, so I don’t need that here. But if you need the 100+ hours of campaign AI cups, then stay away from this iteration. This title is for people who want to prove they are the best out there, while staying clean, not ramming, and enjoying some of the best competitive cars you can get.

    Honest review 8/10

10/10 to counter some of these nostalgiac nay-sayers, who have not removed this game from the numbered Gran Turismo series.

Gamers waited over a decade for a great GT game and gamers will be waiting for infinity unless some miracle happens.

This game is about online racing, no doubt about that. It is Player vs player. May the best man win.
Playing with the ghost system is a pure joy. No idiots ramming you to make the corner. It is amazing. Gran Turismo communities are much better than any other racing games which allow you to have a lot of fun with a lot of different people.

Giving 1 point for the graphics and sound, it should not carry Gran Turismo label... it has around 160 cars (nearly 500 cars LESS than Gran Turismo 2 from 1999), you can't save the carrer without being online, you can't even open it actually, you are forced to play the arcade mode at fixed conditions, there is no progression at all if you can believe it

It's good gameplay-wise and visually satisfying, but the game modes falls short and is online-only, and limiting at that- but get used to that as many more games are headed in that direction. Kaz needs to rethink the Gran Turismo franchise if PD wants to stay competitive with other racing games like Forza.

What it does have is a fair system to encourage clean, sensible online racing. No other racing game that I'm aware of does anything similar apart from Iracing which you pay a monthly subscription.

Paying £40 for GT Sport or pay monthly indefinitely seems a good deal to me. I'm sure they'll add cars, tracks and updates along the way.

If you like mature, online multiplayer racing on console, fed up playing multiplayer on other racing games and always getting rammed by idiots there's no other game to do it apart from GTS.

Just because it holds the name GT doesn't mean it will have a career mode, and since its been clearly stated its an online racing game since the announcement but still dropping points off of the score because it lacks something that was said wont be included shows how careless the reviewers are. Another point is the lack of cars, which again is compared to older installments that had a list of 1000+ cars, while also knowing that they scrapped most of the models and started from scratch (building some of the most detailed models I've seen in any game) which was also known from early on during the development cycle. I have been playing it for a couple of days now and I have to say I have been enjoying it for what it is...sure I'm sad that there's no campaign mode but I knew for a fact that it wasn't going to be included and I would happily wait for a campaign mode in GT7 once its announced. Now if that game doesn't include a campaign mode I'll be more than happy to be among the first to flame the game for not including it, because its what is expected to be in there, not in an online focused spin-off that just shares the name. I haven't tried the FIA races because thats not till November but the doing the challenges in the singleplayer modes and aiming for gold has been both frustrating and enjoyable. Online lobbies to screw around with people and show off liveries has also been tons of fun and lastly having a split-screen mode in 2017, especially in a racing game, is the best thing about this game. The game isn't perfect, but picking on it for not being something that was clearly stated it won't be is the dumbest thing that I've ever seen. I'd say it deserves an 8.5/10 but i gave it a 10 in hopes of this being seen and to also try and balance all the negative reviews its been getting for the reasons I've stated. You can downvote this all you want because its not bashing the game but I hope you acknowledge what is mentioned. Expand

But i get where you are coming from, but for god's sake, show some support. 7/10, honest rating, as a long time GT fan. Not in the same ball park as GT2 and GT4, but it's still fun. Expand

Honestly feels more like a $60 demo than a GT game. Worst GT in the entire franchise. Even the PS Vita game was better.

I've played the Gran Turismo series since the very first one on the original Playstation. It's had some bumps along the way but nothing like Sport. With no career mode and an always online requirement, it's an easy pass for this game. Maybe in 3-6 years if GT7 returns to normal, it would be worth getting.

Everything I hate about modern gaming. You need the internet to play. There's a massive download before you can play even if you bought the disc. There's no career mode. There's hardly any cars, more cars will only be available in DLC. You have to race other users and they can just ram you off the track for fun and ruin the game.

The only positives are the car handling and visuals.

Speaking of online, other games allow you to fill empty spots with AI, but still that's not available here. This is just a disappointment for those of us who aren't big into racing against random people. I'm sure it's fun, but not to me. Right now, for the first time, I have regret for buying Gran Turismo. Immediately after downloading the game I was only permitted to play Arcade mode as the server was shut down for "maintenance" but decided not to let a small matter persuade me one way or the next- so I waited patiently for it to complete. Started off in the driving school as this honestly was always one of the best (also frustrating) parts of the game...however upon completion there was about a minute of wait time (literally) in between the driving tests! Thankfully I had to go to work so no longer had to endure the pain. I have been walking around all day trying to convince myself that I didn't just experience what I thought I had. I remember when I had my Ipod stolen a few years ago- how violated and helpless I felt at the time.

    I feel that way now..

So I guess I don't understand the mindset of the modern game makers. I believe Clash of Clans may have started this pay to play process -Which is the ultimate form of Politics- but I absolutely loathe to think this will happen to console games. I have Forza 7, and kept reserving the "King of Racing" title because I knew this game was on the horizon...and just had one last hope of redemption. But I believe they just nickel-ed & dimed their way to the bottom of the pack with this.

Back to Forza I guess. Could've used the fugging $60 to buy some Forza DLC! lmao

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. GT Sport is different, compared to the previous versions. Yes it does mainly rely on mostly online play and lacks a content heavy single player campaign such as GT5. Some will see this as good or bad or both. My score is based on what it does do well. It plays smoothly and better with a steering wheel. I'm using a Thrustmaster T150.
Visuals are good, but not great (2k res) Could have been sharper and more detail. lighting and clouds are impressive. I'm not a huge fan of online multiplay, but it's nice playing against players, rather than tedious AI bots. It's a welcome change. The sportsmanship they've implemented seems like a waste of time. You'll still get shunted and forced off track by other players. Not sure how the rating system works but I'm certain u get penalised for collisions that are not your fault. I suppose it's meant to make you a cleaner, safer driver without the need to cheat to get on the podium. I do like the 15-20 mins before a race to qualify, try a car, get a fast lap time to get a better position at the start and practice the course.
The single player campaign is made up of three sections, driving school, missions and circuit experience which are basically mini to more challenging games to help improve your driving skills.

The lack of a proper single player campaign similar to GT5 will no doubt put people off, the reduced number of cars, and tracks is disappointing. The cars available are good higher spec, with alot less low spec cars. The livery editor is good, without the need to use credits to customise your ride, as it's free. My only gripe with the livery editor is that on most cars u can't apply livery to the sides, rear or roof of the car because of a ridiculously small area given to edit. I'm hoping this is only a bug.

There is a levelling/points system which gives you points based on mileage driven, winning races, completing challenges etc which gives you new cars, access to tracks, liveries.

Gran Turismo Sport is a good game. It could have been great, if it didn't seem unfinished in places. If your looking for another GT5 or 6, you'll be disappointed. But if you like a change in direction and can overlook the online specifics, you'll still have fun. I know I am. It's a shame there isn't alot more tracks. Hopefully more will be introduced via DLC. And lastly, the dynamic weather system or lack of it. NO rain? So why are there rain tyres in the options menu and windscreen wiper button in the controller menu. Mmmm, something else to be included in a future update.

I'm a Gran Turismo player since the original game on PS1. Always loved the game, and its sequels.

GT Sport is NOT a Gran Turismo game. It seems it's a GT Prologue, or GT Academy, but to be honest it should be called GT DEMO. I have played the Beta, and I don't see any difference in the full game. CAMPAIGN/SINGLE PLAYER: Not existing. You only have driving licences and a few tasks.

I have played the Beta, and I don't see any difference in the full game.

CAMPAIGN/SINGLE PLAYER: Not existing. You only have driving licences and a few tasks. A joke.

ONLINE: Another (horrible) joke. On day 1, you could only play three races (N300 on Brands Hatch, GT3 on Suzuka, GT4 on another track I can't remember). Every 20 minutes there is a new race, except it's ALWAYS THE SAME THREE. You can only grind on and on the same three races. So I think, well.. tomorrow there will be new races? No, on day 2, SAME THREE RACES. Day 3, can you guess? SAME THREE RACES. There are championships, that will start only in November and will be: 1 race on wednesdays and two races on sundays. Seriously? The whole game is ONLY this?

SPORTSMANSHIP in ONLINE: Another real bad joke. Basically you drive carefully and with fair play, but at some point a missile from behind bumps into your car and you get 10 seconds penalty, even though you have done NOTHING WRONG. This happens all the time, there are YouTube videos and Reddit threads about it.

VR: another joke. It's just a tech demo, where you can go head-to-head with ONE AI car, which is setted as super easy (so you over take it immediately, and then you basically are driving alone on an empty track). Also, it doesn't really look any better than DriveClub VR, which is widely considered as a terrible downgrade in graphics. Clearly the PS4 Pro isn't powerful enough to render VR as good as a PC, so graphics look more like a PS2.

Stay away from this .. bugged, lackluster demo (not a full game!).

The serious lack of content (cars, tracks) and forced online is what killed the enjoyment of the game for me. No career mode, online-only focused content and forced connection races will surely turn off every old school Gran Turismo fan (including me). I felt no progression whatsoever while playing this game, (besides the lackluster tutorials, which granted, are many and challenging) and soon the game became a headache inducing grind towards no goal in particular.

The gameplay is actually really good, but the sound and visuals leave a lot to be dessired. No longer is GT the flagship of modern race simulators... i actually encourage buying either project cars 2 or Forza 7 if you own an Xbox One.

With such a lack of content in Sport, and the non existant ambition and evolution that the series had always shown, i cannot recomend it for $60.00. This game is barely a $15.00 experience for me, and i just felt my heart breaking while typing this... i never thought Gran Turismo would pull a street fighter V **** thing... but it did, and it's so much worse

From the very moment you start the game you get the feeling that this is a sports game. All of the content is directed at teaching you how to race, how to learn the tracks without relying on a virtual driving line, and how to compete not only with others, but with yourself. GTS emphasizes lap times, community records, and competitive racing; borrowing heavily from the iRacing formula. But where iRacing requires an expensive $400+ investment in force feedback driving wheel and pedals to feel like a competent driver, GTS adds in a few convenience driving features to help those of us stuck with the default controller. In fact one of the biggest ways this differs from iRacing is that most people in the community will be using controllers too. GTS gets to the very essence of racing by getting you familiar with your car and the track, with every aspect of the game built around this focus.

GTS diverges in several ways from the mainline series in that it does not have AI competitive races, there are less ways to customize the performance of your cars, and the game does not import any of the cars made in the previous games (limiting the number of drive-able cars compared to previous games). If these features are important to you and their missing presence in the game would impact your enjoyment, or you have data caps/unstable connection, I cannot recommend this game.

I still haven't spent enough time with the game to determine if the netcode is adequate, or if it will be just as difficult to get out of the lower safety ratings as it was in iRacing; the issue with that game was how difficult it was to get a clean lap when you are grouped with the worst class of drivers. It also remains to be seen if the higher ranks end up requiring the more expensive racing peripherals to reach. I may adjust my score due to these factors at a later point.

Good multiplayer game, good graphics, but seems like a cut-down GT6 PS3 version, with updated graphics, less cars, less tracks, and less GTmode content.

Project Cars or Asseto Corsa ARE better race simulators, and have stronger multiplayer modes.

I like to play more an offline campaign in my racing games, versus just doing online races. It seems they only put online content for the most part. And the worst part is, if their server is undergoing maintenance, you won't even be able to save your offline mode progress.

There's not that many tracks (yet), there's not many cars either (yet). There's a bunch that are just fictitious dream prototypes...

The game is pretty big, 40+ gigs, so what is all that data used for? Videos...

So far i'm pretty dissapointed... and i pre-ordered and got the upgrade pack for 20$ to get extra cars and decorations and money to have a head start... But I wish i would have waited. In a few months you'll get all that at a decent rebate.

The game looks great, the sound is still bleh like the previous titles...

I don't have a problem with this game conceptually. If this is the direction Polyphony wants to go, then great. I just feel like it would have been better to not embargo the reviews and make really clear communication to the fan base that this game is ONLY for those with the skills to play an online racing game. As it stands I think Sony wanted to make sure this game sold at the kind of volume a regular GT game will sell at; so they downplayed the lack of features.

As a busy person who was so looking forward to that old excitement at a new GT title; I was so sad last night. Even after playing many hours...it just felt dead to me. I basically was put though several hours of not-so-fun training for an online game I will never be good enough to enjoy. I'll keep trying; because I want to understand where they are going with this...but this game just makes me sad.

I just want a modern version of GT3/GT4...but I guess that is not to be.

What percentage of car enthusiasts really have the skills it takes to be online racing stars? What about those who just want to buy a game for fantasy escape from reality?

It still has the GT charm and polish, and I’m excited about what’s coming in future updates. I haven’t tried racing against other players yet, but CPU controlled cars seem to have their own AI, rather than having a brute forceful single B-line for the finish line. I’d say that there are levels of complexity going on underneath great the visuals and sounds. For example, the developers finally delivered on a promise they’ve been making for years, and that’s smarter drivers. I’ve noticed on numerous occasion when I’ve driven off the road and blindly pulled back into traffic, that the CPU driven cars avoided running into me by swerving around my car. In the past, they’d instead show no regard for the player’s presence on the track by plowing into them, and push their car out of the way and keep it moving. It’s a delightful sight to behold, while racing and during replays. This adds yet another layer of realism to the game for sure. I’m starting to see that technical polish was done during that 4-5 years of development. If you’re looking for more of a single player experience though, get Project Cars 2, which is also awesome. Or get them both if you can, like I did, you won’t be sorry with either. Expand

    I give this a 6, borderline 5 for a released game.

    Pros:
    Amazing graphics
    Great physics engine
    Decent menu system

    Cons:
Low original vehicle count (see details)
Down for maintenance in the middle of the day
    Online play only
Lack of tracks from previous versions that I loved
    Annoying tuning menu for vehicles
Wheels and gear have to be purchased with special currency instead of credits earned.

    Details:

I can see why many gamers and old school GT players like myself are not happy with this release. As I listed above, I'm not overly happy with what has been brought to the plate. First the pros about the game.

Stability wasn't initially an issue, network crashes are now common!
The graphics and not just the cars are top notch and i'm not even running a 4k TV.
    Physics engine is spot on.
Menu system is an improvement over GT6, though GT5 remains my favorite menu setup.

Now to what I consider the cons.

Though the original download of 35+ gig seemed small, I was unpleasantly surprised that I had to wait another 7 hours for the other 55+ gig to finish and was basically teased with the promise that at some point I would gain access to the rest of the menu system and be able to accomplish something other than an AI race. I would have preferred them just make me wait for the entire install because it seemed the system took longer to finish the remaining amount of data than the transfer speeds were of the first 35 gig.

Logged into game today at 8 PM EST and game is having maintenance during a prime hour which is normally unheard of. Back to Arcade mode again because progress can't be made during offline mode. If that is the case, maintenance should be during off hours in the time zones where players are normally awake.

Most disappointing was the vehicle list. 162 is the official count. Remove all the vehicles with the word "Vision" in the name and that drops to 128. I haven't took the time to count, yet. However, I'd surmise that there might be half that number in original vehicles in the game or around 64. Vehicles that are OEM make up maybe a third of the total vehicles. Don't get me wrong, race vehicles are needed of course. But, those Vision Concept vehicles are not. As a typical gear head, I'm interested in the OEM vehicles and tuning them and racing them. I don't have the money to do it in real life, so I get my need from GT or at least I used to. Now I've had to purchase Forza 7 to continue having the chance to drive a GTX, a GNX, or even an old school racer. The Vision cars in GTS do not even exist even as a concept to my knowledge, a few might, but they are definitely not built as a production model. I never wanted that from GT. It was built on the fact that it had a large number of vehicles. I have no problem with them lowering the amount of vehicles, but don't replace the ones you do have with non-existent make believe garbage when there are real life cars just as cool that people want the chance to drive, even digitally.

Lack of tracks is another major annoyance. Since GT1 there has been a super speedway (not an oval) that I used to test cars on. Others include Monza and Laguna Seca. Not available on GTS. Now tracks are appearing that I've never even seen before. Though neat, should be added in favor of the classic track icons that are world renown.

Some reviewers have been lauding the audio in the game as improved over previous versions. To me, the sound is identical to all the previous games. I think the main problem is that the sound of the vehicle is only heard from the back. Drivers like me are either in the cockpit or the bumper cam. I can only hear the exhaust note in GTS if I'm on the roof cam or in 3rd person behind the car. Otherwise all the vehicles sound like they have a supercharger wine to them even when the vehicle doesn't have a SC on it. Its like they don't even think of those things when testing the game. Either that or they don't care.

The final con I'll comment on is the tuning menu. You can tell they put it in as an afterthought. It doens't even have its own menu system. You do it through the car tuning section that is accessed even before races. Now you just have levels, not parts and you use special currency (not credits earned from racing) to level up the performance of the vehicle.

There are plenty of pure racing games out there. What made GT exciting was how it included every day drivers all the way up to race cars. If they turn this game into just another pure racing game, then I guess I'll bid the series a fond farewell and become a Forza fanboy even though I hate Microsoft products. I hate to say it, but I'm highly disappointed in the game. I'll still play it for a while because I bought it. Once, I get bored, I'll probably keeps tabs on it hoping that they release more cars/tracks or patch it in some way that brings back the GT feel that the game was built on. Not, mimic single minded racing games like iRacing.

This looks like it belongs on a PS3 in all honesty.

As somebody who has adored Turismo since PS1 I am completely sickened and gutted by the awful direction this series has suddenly taken. They trashed everything that made Turismo unique and traded it in for a new direction of e-sports crapola. Avoid this abortion at all costs.

Yes, there is no single player that we are used to from previous GTs, although Polyphony did a great job with moving forward and sustain absolutely great atmosphere of Gran Turismo. Great graphics, sounds and, what is most important, FUN. It's much more competitive, this is what they tried to achieve, and they did that great. You still can have a lot of hours spent driving in single, unlocking cars etc, but what is most important now is competitive online play, and they did it great. What is lacking in my opinion is tracks and cars. I'd love to have some more real tracks, like Monza or France, more cars (where the hell is Dodge Challenger?!), but it might be just sentiment to previous GTs that offered a loooot of cars. This is a full package, with lobbies, tournaments and some single player things, not like PCars or Assetto, that is only focused on lobby simulating experience, it gives you more, at the same time making it more accesible for everybody.
