This is a Godzilla game for Godzilla fans. If you love the original Japanese movies you will love this game. It has a rather large learning curve and you do have to grind for unlocks, but overall it is faithful to the films and great for fans.

My problem with reviews of this game is a lack of perspective.

The special effects and very way the building fall apart is straight out of a Toho film. The models might as well be direct scans of the SH MonsterArts toy line!

The controls are designed to feel exactly how you should, Iike a behemoth that shouldn't be able to move around fast in the first place! If you make a mistake charging and miss you opponent, you get punished and have to slow turn. That is what I expect to happen!

The detailed sound effects of this game blow my mind! Not only does every monster use the correct roars from their films, but the very SFX they make when they fall is the same. That's the kind of attention to detail someone puts in when they care about what they're making! I personally lost my mind when they queued up Akira Ifukube's Military Marches at each Disaster Level!

The multi-player itself is something different. It's plotting and methodical. You can't just run in and expect to win by spamming. You have to watch you opponents for opening.

Is it a fan service game? Absolutely!
    Is it grindy? Yes.
Is it something the average Battlefield player should play? No, because this isn't their game!

Forget the graphics and lack of actions variety, if you appreciate the kaiju eiga then you'll enjoy in the Biollante skin. This is a game to release stress, for playing occasionally and have some fun.

I'm writing this review after destroying a city as King Ghidorah, flying and blasting buildings apart with my beams then stomping Battra when he appeared. Destroy All Monsters, Save the Earth, Unleashed all had mixed reviews from critics. But fans of Godzilla, like me, enjoyed them for countless hours. This Ps4 title is no different.

I'm not sure why people expected a AAA budget game

I'm not sure why people expected a AAA budget game and thats why they're getting their panties in a knot. I'm stomping around destroying buildings, smacking other kaiju and having fun with decent graphics and good sound. What's more to love? As someone who wished that Destroy All Monsters and Save the Earth on the Xbox had more of a destruction focus, I feel like this complements that well. It's not a fighter like them but a monster rampage simulator. Exactly what I always wanted.

Main point? Come in with a love of destroying buildings and rampaging through Tokyo and you won't be disappointed. If you come in expecting a heart wrenching monster opera crossed with a fighting game, you'd best look elsewhere.

If your a fan of Godzilla and have seen many of his movies this game will be perfect for you. It really does seem like Godzilla. Noobs button smash the controllers and lose. Multiplayer is very fun. Teaming up in 3 vs. 3 is cool. Just too bad you can't play with friends over.

The game does a fantastic job of recreating the look and feel of the films it is based off of. You can feel the weight of the monsters as they stomp and smash their way around each map. You'll really feel as though you're playing as Godzilla. This is all thanks to the developers and how they wanted to emulate the way they moved in the movies. My only nitpick stems from that since this is a PS4 port of a game that was originally on the PS3, the graphics do look a tad dated. Besides that, I really have nothing negative to say about Godzilla. Its a solid game and an amazing love letter to all fans of the Big G. Pick it up if you're in need a Godzilla sized fix. Expand

As a fan of the original Godzilla films, I really appreciate the direction of this game. I understand gamers used to higher-budget production may not entirely enjoy it, but I disagree that the game is totally without it's rewards. This game has great replay value, and should prove entertaining for a wide range of gamers.

It all makes you really feel like Godzilla. Not all the monster are balanced. In multiplayer you'll often have to team up to take down strong monsters like Biollante. Although this does add to the feel and makes it feel like an authentic Godzilla battle, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to take down a powerful monster like King Ghidorah with a small and weak monster like Mothra Larva and makes Multiplayer very interesting fun. At first I thought this might be a button smasher game, but it turns out that this game requires correct timing and correct move execution. It's also possible to release combos. A basic combo would be square 3x, triangle, circle with Godzilla. Each Monster requires a different fighting style. Mothra Larva is often more defensive and cautious, Biollante is pure offence, and MechaGodzilla is more better at a distance. The only con would be that leveling up each monster takes a while and the developers didn't add a split screen to play with friends over.

Godzilla is easily the perfect game for any Godzilla or giant kaiju fans. This game is made for the fans of the classic Toho Godzilla films. This game is made for the fans of the classic Toho Godzilla films. There's tons of fan service, all the kaiju look, sound, and act just like how they did in the movies. The gameplay is simple, but fun. The main game mode is God of Destruction Mode. Basically, you take control of Godzilla or any other kaiju and destroy as much of the city as you can. Your main goal is to destroy the G-Generators and defeat the enemy kaiju, if one appears on that particular level. It's tons of fun to blast the cities with your atomic breath and see everything explode around you. As you destroy the cities, the "disaster level" will rise, bringing in more tanks and jets and occasionally a Super X. As mentioned, you can destroy the city with other kaiju. However, if you play as a kaiju such as Mothra or Super Mechagodzilla, you will be tasked with defending the city and preventing destruction. As you play through the game, you can evolve your kaiju in evolution mode and gain new attacks for Godzilla. You can also upgrade the energy charge speed.

Now onto the graphics, as mentioned, everything looks just like the original Godzilla films. The monsters are easily the best models in the game and look amazing. The buildings are not as good as the kaiju models, but they serve their purpose, for you to destroy them. There's been many complaints on how the graphics look bad but honestly, I'm not seeing it. The graphics look great. Sure, the millions of sparks that appear may not be realistic, but remember, this game's aim is to emulate the Godzilla films, specifically the Heisei series, so the sparks, while they may not look realistic, are there because they're there in the films.

There's tons of fan service. You can blow up Gigan's head just like how his head exploded in Godzilla Final Wars. You can melt the Super X II's Fire Mirror by blasting it with atomic breath a few times, just like Godzilla vs Biollante. When you play as Godzilla 1964, the last stage pits you against 2 Mothra larva, like in Mothra vs Godzilla. You can even tear off Mechagodzilla 2's head and it'll reveal the mechanical brain underneath just like in Terror of Mechagodzilla. You see, things like this are what makes this game the best Godzilla game.

I'd highly recommend you try out this game if you're a Godzilla fan, or even just a fan of kaiju in general. If you're not a kaiju fan, this game is probably not for you. Don't listen to all of the negative reviews, try the game out yourself and see if you like it. Their complaints aren't even valid. "Repetitive Gameplay" is a common complaint, yet that complaint comes from the same critics who love CoD, which is even more repetitive, all you do is run, shoot, get killed, respawn, repeat. The other major complaint are the graphics. Remember, we gamers are not playing games for their pretty graphics, we play them to have fun.

Thank you for reading my review and I hope you enjoy the game! Go Go Godzilla!

Tank controls on it could be better, but this is probably the first time Natsume (developers of Harvest Moon and Abadox) has programmed a game of this magnitude. It is simplistic and kind of repetitive yet stays true to the Godzilla playstyle: slow and lumbering, yet unaware of gunfire. I'm only guessing this, but they may have just forgot to put in a life meter for Godzilla because he regenerates from near death damage so quickly. Overall I'd say that the game is fun for what it is and is quite aware of how gimmicky it is. 8/10 Expand

The reason these tank controls work is because your controling a giant monster, a slow lumbering creature, not another run of the mill shooting bang character we see every day. Personally i love the monster roster as it has a nice pick of every series of godzilla movies, such as hedorah, king ghidorah, rodan and amazingly the legendary pictures version of godzilla. The best part of this game HAS to be the multiplayer as you smack down other players from across the world. Each monster can be uprgraded when you defeat them in the main campaign and the nods to the series are so awesome, such as jet jaguar shrinking, godzilla flying, and mecha godzillas forcefield. I'm not sure what the people who gave low reviews were expecting from this game. It's a port of a PS3 game whose focus is on recreating the Toho Godzilla movies. This means that the monsters are slow and lumbering, and the action is fairly repetitive.

There are several modes in the game:
God of Destruction is a mode that takes you through a series of maps as Godzilla, a defender of humanity, or an invader.
King of the Monsters, in which you choose a kaiju to play as, and fight a series of 6 battles in a time-attack fashion
VS Mode, which allows you to play 2 or 3-player battles online
The other options are an Evolution mode, which allows you to level up your monsters, generally increasing the capacity or recovery rate of their special attacks. Though it should be noted that most of the Godzilla's (there are a few versions) each have unique attacks you can purchase.
The Kaiju Guide is a list of data entries for each of the kaiju in the game, and a few that aren't.
Finally, there's a Diorama mode, which I found really unique. Basically, you accumulate "bases" in God of Destruction mode, which serve as the diorama backgrounds, and you accumulate "figures" in Evolution mode. You can place these figures in the base and create battle scenes of your own design. I like the concept, but it's a little strange. The interface for that is also not very user-friendly.

So how does the game play? Well, I found it to be surprisingly similar to the Gundam games, which I enjoyed on the PS2, such as Journey to Jaburo. It takes a little time to acclimate to the unique control scheme, but it's not overly complex. One negative I had was that not all monsters are created equal. I mean, from a lore perspective you wouldn't expect them to be, but the game doesn't alter the objectives accordingly. So with some monsters, you may have a much harder time with some levels, and in some cases cannot complete the bonus objectives due to the way the monsters attacks work.
Defeating monsters and completing the God of Destruction mode gives you evolution parts to level up your kaiju. If levelling them all to max is your goal, be prepared to play through the God of Destruction mode a LOT. This is where the complaints of the repetitive nature of the game come from for most people.
Online VS is pretty fun, though I prefer the 3 player mode over the 2 player one, just because some more interesting strategies come into play with 3 players. The only complaint I have is that the lag is unbelievable in some matches. This is because the matchmaking appears to be global.

Overall, I think the faithful recreation of the Toho franchise is what divides people on this game. I'm not sure what people who aren't fans of the movies were expecting when they picked this game up. Should this game be 60 dollars? Probably not. Despite that, I'm having a ton of fun with it, and have already put almost 20 hours into it. This game is a love letter to G-fans, and it's just as fun and flawed as the movies it draws from.

the game is good as the movies. Just go, see Godzilla take down a huge rooster of classic Kaijus, destroy everything and get bigger. this is not for the graphics, is for the fun. The cinematic cameras are the best feature. just like the old movies.

This game is a fantastic game if you are HUGE GODZILLA fan. Controls are a bit wonky thats true but there is a lot of depth to the game in terms of leveling up your Kaiju and unlocking more combos and abilities. Takes getting used to but all in all a fun game.

Time to set the story straight. This game, objectively, is O.K. The controls are clunky, the graphics are mediocre, and it gets repetitive fast, but there's fun to be had. If you aren't a godzilla fan, don't even think about touching this. However, if you are a fan, then this may just be the perfect game for you. And since I am a fan, this game is bloody awesome! The problem is people think of this like the Pipeworks godzilla games when it isn't. You, as the player can control a variety of kaiju to appear in the godzilla franchise, although you only start with '84 godzilla. You can rampage through the game, unlocking more monsters as you go, each of which have incredibly faithul ability sets. As I said, the controls are clunky, but what do you expect? You aren't playing as a yoga instructor, you're playing as a 60m tall, slow, strong kaiju. The controls are perfect in that regard. All the biggest, most important monsters are here, and also, your favourite is likely in the roster (sorry Orga fans, but he isn't in it). The graphics aren't the best, but they help emulate that rubber-suit feel. In fact that's what I can say for the game as a whole. In it's mediocrity, it manages to capture the feeling like YOU ARE a monster in a godzilla flick. I only really have 2 complaints, though. 1, is that when your playing as a REALLY big monster, such as Destoroyah or Mecha King Ghidora, the camera has a hard time finding a spot where you can actually see more than 2 feet ahead of you. Also, the G-Force Operator constantly comments on events, and it can get annoying. Especially considering that it shouldn't even be possible for the kaiju to hear it. Overall, this game is really hard to enjoy for people who aren't fans. But if you are a fan, buy it as soon as possible. I admit, if I bought this full price, this review would be very different, but nowadays, you can grab it for about 20 bucks. A price i think is a bit low, but the cheaper the better, I suppose. It's such a shame that the poor reception this got will make the idea of a sequel nothing but a Godzilla fan's wet dream. But hey, at least the fans will always be here to cherish it. Expand

It's more of a Godzilla simulator than a fighting game, and it completely succeeds at that. If you want a fighting game, go play the Pipeworks Godzilla trilogy. This is for fans that want to live the films.

This is not Save the Earth. I think everyone got accustom to the Pipeworks but this is not one of those games. This is a Godzilla movie simulator not a fighting game. But yes it is rough-around-the-edges, yes the graphics aren't super good. At the end of the day it does have a lot of replay value and the gameplay is repetitive but fun

Godzilla reeks of disappointment from every fiber of its being. It's boring as hell and hard to control. What on Earth were the developers thinking? [Jan 2016]

All in all, there may not be enough substance for a gamer to really stick around and play the game more than a few times in curiosity.

Seeing a game like this in 2015 is... well, unbelievable. It's an utter pile of Kaiju waste, with horrible gameplay, dated graphics, and a repetitive campaign.
