It’s absolutely rough around the edges, but there’s some fun to be had here.

So while Godzilla might be an average game in many ways, it’s also a very faithful Godzilla experience, and one that fans and will treasure having in their collection.

Godzilla has laid many eggs in gaming, and this is another one. Other than the presentation, Godzilla doesn’t do anything perfectly.

If you love these movies, perhaps you would enjoy it. But Godzilla is an action game with poor graphics and repetitive missions. Godzilla deserves something better.

An ugly game with broken old-school mechanics. Consider buying it if you are a Godzilla fan and after a cut price only.

Godzilla is not a terrible game, but it's just not a lot of fun. The repetition sets in very early and it becomes a chore to play for all but the most diehard of fans.

Godzilla is the perfect ode to an icon from the twentieth century. However, it is not a game that you will play for days in a row. The graphics, the gameplay and the story are all very disappointing.

The game is littered with fan service and was clearly made by people who love the property. In a way, that’s what makes it so frustrating.

There is only so far you can take a game titled Godzilla. After the fun of smashing up buildings and flinging helicopters soon wears off, you begin to find yourself with a mediocre title that becomes repetitive at best.

The game has some nice fan-features, including Prime Ministers with varying personalities and perspectives on Godzilla's threat potential, and Diorama Mode, which is a virtual dollhouse for custom scenes. There's also a great kaiju encyclopedia, detailing the long list of monsters Godzilla has confronted, along with various versions of the monster itself. However, none of that helps the game overcome its overly simplistic and boring gameplay.

Despite the huge flaws, there’s still something that kept drawing me back to play a bit more, to destroy a few buildings or beat one more Kaiju. It’s not smart or clever, nor remotely modern, and it’s mostly repetitive and dull. But it’s Godzilla – a giant nuclear accident that is as likely to destroy you as protect you.

Ultimately, Godzilla can be a reasonably fun romp if you're up for some mindless chaos, but it's too clumsily executed to recommend to anyone who isn't a diehard fan of the King of Monsters.

Godzilla provides an experience soaked in nostalgia that simply isn't fun to play after putting in time with it. Sure, hearing the roars, tearing through towns and beating up on Rodan were entertaining for the first few minutes, but it all goes downhill quite quickly.

If you really wanna play and have fun with Godzilla and you still have an Xbox or a GameCube, Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee will give you much more (more and more) satisfaction.

All in all, there may not be enough substance for a gamer to really stick around and play the game more than a few times in curiosity.

Godzilla is a game only for hardcore fans of the kaiju genre. If you aren't, the game will be a great disappointment due to its repetitive gameplay mechanics or its mediocre visuals.

Godzilla faithful will be once again disappointed by this lackluster offering. Unintuitive controls, poor responsiveness, broken combat, repetitive missions…

Apart from it’s massive roster of Kaiju and an encyclopedia of monsters, Godzilla's poor graphics, uncomfortable controls, and overly repetitive missions make this one of the worst renditions of the King of the Kaiju since he fought Matthew Broderick in Madison Square Garden back in ‘97.

Not even remotely does justice to the legend of Godzilla. They have focused on creating monsters and have somehow forgotten to create gameplay that doesn't make you yawn.

Godzilla is a game that could have been fun, but the lack of depth and variety destroy the game. The controls are slow and strange. Added to that, the game misses all the necessary details and m,manages to become dull fast.

I can't deny that I had a blast with Godzilla. Seeing my favorite monsters and controlling them to defend or invade cities gave me nothing but smiles as a fan of the franchise. However, it is impossible to ignore the lack in the technical aspect, summed up to the awkwardness in the controls.

Destroying cities and fighting other Kaijus is fun at first, but the joy Godzilla offers vanishes in a couple of gaming sessions. Godzilla was created for the fans, but at some point the development took a turn for the worse and it ended up turning into a game that would've been better on mobile.
  24. 40
Godzilla has managed to strike terror on the patrons of Tokyo for years, but sadly his latest game does that for very different reasons. By providing slow gameplay and downright boring levels, Godzilla manages to somehow take all of the fun out of playing with giant monsters.

It's definitely a tribute to Godzilla, and the biggest fans of the monster will enjoy many of its moments, but as a game there are to many failed aspects.

It might be an interesting game to get, at a budget price, for trash fans and kaiju fanatics, but the truth is that's its the only appeal.

What could have been a cheese-filled celebration of the history of one of the most famous movie monsters around instead winds up as a tragic and premature obituary.

Don’t bother with Godzilla because it’s a tedious, poorly produced, irritating, utterly underwhelming production that has only the bare minimum to offer die-hard followers of the franchise.

Visually the reincarnation of the cult monsters is a disappointment, brought down by the sluggish controls and redundant mission design. Godzilla should have stayed in hibernation.

A waste of a great opportunity to achieve a great gaming-experience. Godzilla deserves better than a PS2 engine and a sloppy gameplay mechanics that lacks the enthusiasm of a great action-arcade. Even die-hard fans should stay away from it.

Playing Godzilla does not hurt. It probably does not cause diseases or wildfires. I just don’t know if that’s enough of a reason to recommend it. If you’re not the biggest Godzilla fan in the world, steer clear of it and be happy that not all games look like this. [09/2015, p.56]

The worst part about my experience with Godzilla is the fact that it didn't provide laughs or enjoyment because of its poor quality. Instead, I just sat there bored for much of the time as I endlessly destroyed cities and fought other monsters in terribly unbalanced fights. On top of all that, the game costs $60 despite its lack of meaningful content

It takes a special kind of ineptitude to make a game about giant monsters incredibly boring, but Natsume Atari has managed to do a world-class job of it.
  46. 30
Godzilla should be fertile material for a fun game, but the slow pacing and shallow controls hold it back, creating a repetitive experience that misses too many opportunities for me to recommend it to anyone but the most hardcore of Godzilla fans.

It all adds up to a sad and baffling state of affairs for Godzilla's current-gen debut. It's a game that would have felt lackluster and empty even if it had actually come out on the PS2.

Godzilla commits so many game design sins that they become impossible to count, but the greatest horror of them all is that such giant monsters could be so boring.

Perhaps developer Natsume Atari intended to replicate the experience of wearing a Godzilla costume while filming a movie, but no gamer should ever have to endure gameplay this cumbersome and poorly designed.

Due to poor funding or a bankruptcy of talent, GODZILLA is a sad excuse for a game desperately attempting to be a worthy adaptation of the beloved monster series. Cheap, bumbling, and interminably boring, it’s a bargain basement budget release with the unbelievable gall to present itself as a major “AAA” release.

And that's what it feels like to play Godzilla - you're a man in a giant suit, blindly bumbling around a fake cardboard city, swinging your arms and trying not to pass out - not because you're exhausted, but because you're bored out of your mind.

More Godzooky than Godzilla, this is not only a terrible game but a technically inept one – that can’t even make stepping on tanks seem like fun.

You would think a game in which you can pimp-slap a moth as a 40ft-tall garbage monster couldn’t possibly be that bad. You would, however, be wrong.

This game was developed to correlate movement, visual gameplay, roster, and mechanics to that of the movies so thoroughly that it makes you think of how unauthentic previous Godzilla "fighter" games (Save the Earth, Unleashed..) were compared to this. This is the Godzilla movies..in a game. His interactions with the environment, encounters with other monsters, and sluggish movement all give you that authentic feel of what Godzilla should be in game. The only downside would be graphics ( which aren't terrible for a PS3 port ), for the power PS4 holds the graphics could have definitely been better. Beside that, A+ in my book. Full Review »

I have all the movies, have built/painted countless kaiju garage kits, have attended major conventions, and have more collectibles than I will ever admit to. Hurray for me! Right? I've also played every kaiju related video game to come down the pike, so yes, I consider myself a fan. Don't be fooled! Regardless of whether you're a hardcore fan, casual fan, or simply a fan of video games, if you have one single shred of common sense, you will be completely disgusted by this shallow, repetitive, mind numbingly boring piece of unimaginative garbage. Some people (I think they're called fanboys) are absolutely incapable of admitting they've been had. Do yourself a favor. Learn to identify these people and ignore their advice at all costs. It's worthless. This game is so pitiful, children would be offended if it was a "prize" in their Happy Meal! The fact that Bandai Namco not only had the audacity to release this turd, but also had the gall to charge $60 for it, is completely reprehensible! Please, for the sake of your self esteem, stay far away from this bargain basement swill! You've been warned. Godzilla is one of the most iconic movie characters of all time. He deserves better than this. So do his fans. Full Review »
