God of War III Remastered

We get a lot of Remasters and HD Remixes these days, but this is not one you should miss out on.

A must-own title for PlayStation fans.

God of War III Remastered is a Pandora's box worth reopening. Though the hinges creak with age, and a few edges aren't as polished as they could be, the contents still shine, even after half a decade on. [October 2015, p68]

God of War 3 was and still is a milestone for exceptionally well orchestrated action. If you’re new to Kratos, though, you could be overwhelmed, since nods to the first two parts are scarce while technically the remaster is not as polished as The Last of Us.

This still remains the best entry in the series to date. Pick it up if you want to see Kratos at his greatest.

Like most other remasters, God of War 3 Remastered offers a tremendous experience from a game that has undergone a complete aesthetic overhaul. The updated tech candy along with the gloriously genuine story makes for a great game. On the other hand, if you already played it, don't bother with this one.

A PlayStation masterpiece in a great format. The improvements on frame rate let us enjoy the great combat system of God of War III in a smooth way, and the photo mode is an interesting feature. Nothing new for those who enjoy the original game, just the better graphics.

As far as Remasters go God of War III is a welcome but an unnecessary one. The single addition of the Photo Mode and updated graphics are something I feel just aren't worth paying $40 for a five year old game.

God of War III is still a fantastic experience, and a significant beat in gaming history, but this remaster doesn’t build on its legacy.

God of War III is still an excellent game five years later. The Remastered version is the best way to play it, but, it's a somewhat underwhelming release because it is so similar to the PS3's Ultimate Edition. This is not a Definitive Edition technically, but more content and thus value would have been great to see included here.

Its beautiful graphics are prettier than ever, and a higher frame rate adds more fluidity to the action. The story will be confusing to newcomers, as it picks up right in the middle of the saga, but the exciting combat and epic set pieces hold up exceptionally well.

Kratos remembers his last adventure so far in PS4, with improved textures and various adjustments, while maintaining the essence of the original.

God of War 3 Remastered is a fresh take on the last game. A lot of aspects have been polished and it all runs fluently. The added Photo Mode is fun for a while, but ultimately slows down the game. All things considered, it is definitely a game all Playstation 4 gamers should own.

God of War will never be Shakespeare, but it’s a bloody good time that doesn’t take the player for granted. Maybe that’s why it was remastered, after all, then: to remind us of what games can be, if we just let them take us on a journey. A daft, angry, bald journey, led by a screaming topless Adonis that lets us kill everything that moves. Fair play, Sony.

God of War III: Remastered looks great and plays smooth with its 1080p/60 fps. But as usual, buying it depends whether you played the original or not.

Some may wonder why it's so high-priced, or why certain aspects of the game weren't as polished as the rest of it. But God of War III Remastered shows that Sony Santa Monica is more than ready for PS4 development, and that means we're in for something cool whenever Kratos decides to cover new territory. In the meantime, give his god-pummeling journey a revisit.

God of War III Remastered is the same adventure from 2010, but smoother and with more detail. Don't expect new gameplay elements beyond the new photo mode because you won't find it and the DLC included doesn't expand the experience. A game that will be enjoyed, first and most, by the newcomers and Kratos' most loyal fans.

God of War III has aged very well, mostly because of the great job done by Santa Monica Studios in the original game. A must-have if you have not played the PS3 version.

A good remaster of a perfect game.

It runs beautifully – I encountered one glitch across the eight-hour experience, and nothing deal-breaking – looks fantastic, and delivers that shameless, gratuitous action without feeling aged or tired.

A visual revamp of the original title, the Remastered edition of God of War III adds little to the package. However, it's a great game even by modern standards. Fans and newcomers will enjoy the great combat thanks to the new resolution and constant frame rate.

1080p and 60fps offer very smooth gameplay for players but if you didn't play GoW and GoW II, you may not understand the story.

The fact that the Photo Mode is one of the emphasized features tells everything about how necessary this remaster was and how much effort was put into it. Yes, the textures are sharper, the lighting is better, but the difference is not breathtaking, because the game was already stunningly beautiful before. It’s not how I imagined Kratos’ assault on PS4. So why such a high score? Despite Kratos proving as wholly unpleasant as ever, God of War III remains a stellar action adventure, one that looks better than ever in 1080p and 60fps.

If you’ve never played a God Of War game before, this is arguably the perfect place to start.

Even after ageing a good five years, God of War III still remains a fabulous action game jammed with memorable set pieces and locations.

God of War 3: Remastered gets the maximum out of real minimal changes. The core of God of War 3 is in 2015 still awesome and the few graphic tweaks that were added make it seem like we are playing a brand new game.

While it was, and remains, a great and classic game in its own right, unless you have somehow never played it before, you should give this Remastered version a pass.

While admittedly good-looking, there's not much here for anyone that played the game five years ago. For newcomers, especially those without a PS3, Kratos's bloodthirsty pursuit of vengeance is a titan of the action genre. You may want to wait until the price is right though.

At the end of the day, God of War III: Remastered is God of War III again.

God of War III Remastered is a must-buy for those that missed out five years ago, but while the game's not full-price, veterans are probably better off waiting for a PS4-native sequel.

Touting fluid, sixty-frames-per-second gameplay and beautifully enhanced visuals, God of War III Remastered exists as the definitive version of one of the world's best action games.

Overall, and like other recent remasters, it would be hard to recommend this to those who have already played God of War 3. But for those who haven’t - this is certainly God of War at its best, and it’s a chance to experience one of the best beat-em up platformers the last generation console had to offer.

A remaster is always welcome when it has something to add. The best of God of War III Remastered has its roots in the quality of the original. This remaster, although it's a great game, won't be especially appealing to those who already played God of War III.

It's not the polishing of the old that makes it worthy of the current gen, but how far the game is willing to present a twist on mythology that, for a AAA action game, still feels entirely new.

GoW III is an incredible adventure and this is the best way to play it. Still, if you have already played it, you won't find too many additions to the experience.

Despite some aging mechanics, I still had a blast whipping my Blades of Exile around ancient Greece once again. There's something visceral and rewarding about God of War's combat that manages to strike a nerve even after a lapse of several years.

It's a triumph over age for the franchise, which manages to retain nearly all of its luster and fun, successfully making the transition to a new console. In 2015, with a new and detailed coat of paint, God of War III is just as beautiful and enjoyable as ever.

There’s never a moment that pushes the boundaries of the console, but it feels like a 2015 PS4 title through and through. The main issue with this release is the fact that there’s not a whole lot of value here.

A solid title, not because of improvements made during the remastering process, but rather the strength of the original creation. Sure, it looks a little bit nicer, and the photo mode is a nice addition, but this is primarily the same game that it was five years ago.

Five years later, God of War III is still a great beat them all to play. It has not aged a bit in terms of gameplay and its remastering makes it definitely look great to all eyes. Not essential for those who already know the game, but clearly interesting if you've never played it before on PS3.

That the game finds so many ways to stay consistently fresh within this traditional structure is a feat worthy of the gods.

It all feels like a bit of a missed opportunity. Had it been a compilation of all three numbered God of War titles, it’d be easy to recommend without hesitation, but as it stands now it’s only really worthwhile for God of War neophytes.

God of War debuts on PS4 with a technically well done remastered edition... that lacks everything else. It's just one game, without any meaningful bonus content and a tag price a bit on the high end.

If you've never played the original, this is a good way to let yourself into one of the best action games of all times. For everyone else, the HD treatment is good but not impressive, so there are no reasons to consider buying again.

A zero-hassle remaster of a great action hack 'n' slash. The combat system is still great, even if inferior to that of some Japanese games of the same genre, and the graphics have aged extraordinarily well. Still, as we said, a lot more could have been done in this remaster.

The original game rejuvenated and accelerated a little bit, but otherwise nothing much has changed. We must say there’s not much space for the improvement with the game like this. On the other hand, there is no reason to buy the game for again if you already played God of War III before.

God of War 3 is still a spectacular and really good action game, but the remastering work here feels cheap to say the least.

God of War III is a great game and an excellent slasher, one of the best games of previous generation. It's worth to get to know this game through the remastered version but only if you haven't had the pleasure of finishing it on the PS3. People who know Kratos well won't be able to justify spending money on the PS4 version. It's very pretty but all in all: the game is terrific, the remaster is mediocre.

The charisma Kratos shows when expressing his deep feelings of revenge, makes God Of War 3 still a milestone in the action genre. Unfortunately the graphic update cannot hide that this testosterone shot has become a bit weak.

God of War III Remastered delivers a masterful conclusion to Kratos' chaotic story arc – but this much was true when the original release brute forced its way onto the PS3 over five years ago. The bumped up resolution and significantly steadier framerate does improve the experience overall, but not to the point where it's worth paying almost full-price again.

Hardly a game that was in desperate need of a makeover, but the original is still a solid action adventure and Kratos’ story is given at least an element of closure.

God of War 3 Remastered is a plain upgrade of an already awesome game. The incredible work Santa Monica Studio did five years ago was still there, waiting for just a little bit of effort to shine again.

The combat system is still quick and rewarding, the story is still heart-breaking and cruel, and the progression system is still paced perfectly as Kratos never feels too powerful throughout his journey...While God of War 3: Remastered may scratch the nostalgia itch we all have for Kratos-related mayhem, it doesn’t offer anything more than a good-looking trip down memory lane.

To me, it says a lot about God of War III's dreadful story that the game can be so well-paced and exciting, and yet still leave me ambivalent about having played it.

Delivers exactly what it says: a prettier version of the same game you played five years ago. Those looking for the same experience will find it, and those looking for something new or a fresh take on the series won’t get much out of this remaster.
