Really enjoyed my time playing, currently finishing up extras. The combat flows good, like the Batman Arkham series but with bladed weapons. The time period is very interesting, which adds to the feeling of being the unstoppable “ghost”. I decided to wait until next gen to play, but I definitely should’ve played this game sooner.

Absolute masterpiece of a video game! The combat is some of the best I've ever seen in a single player game. The environment and graphics are stunning and breath-taking. Several times I'd stop in my tracks in awe of the sunset, or flowers blowing in the wind. This is a must-play if you have a Playstation.

Great graphics, great gameplay, good sound, but very bland and weak story. I recommend it if you like the Japanese / samurai theme or Akira Kurosawa movies, otherwise just buy it only on sale.

    * More specifically, this review is based on the version of the game of the 6 september 2020

    Pro:
+ Super fast loadings, making fast travel and losing fights not annoying
    + Good graphic
    + Nice landscapes
    + Really good photo mode
    + Cinematographic cutscenes
+ Well balanced at any difficulty
    + Good story and characters
+ Every side quest has a unique story
+ Platinum trophy does not require to get all collectibles or to play at a specific difficulty
+ Good combat system, with different possibilities for approaching a fight
+ Nice fashion possibilities for the protagonist's outfit
+ Having the wind as a marker for objectives is really cool and it works
    + You can pet foxes
+ Small but good role-play possibilities
+ Enemies don't have an hive mind
+ You can keep playing after finishing the main story
+ Very few bugs for an open-world
+ There are different methods to find easily the points of interest of the map or the collectibles
+ The world is neither too big or too small
    + Japanese dub
+ You will find more resources and receive more exp than the ones needed to fully upgrade your character, so that it can be done without completing the game at 100%
    + Good tutorials

    Cons:
    - Kurosawa mode is not well implemented
    - Enemies' AI is pretty dumb
    - Enemies have too much tracking with attacks
    - No NG+
    - Dialogues and cutscenes cannot be skipped (but cutscenes will not be replayed when losing a fight)
    - The main and side stories and thematics are pretty simple
    - Most side quests are more or less the same gameplay-wise
    - You cannot pet your horse whenever you want
    - You cannot change the protagonist's position or pose during photo mode
    - Sometimes it's hard to find the shopkeeper you need in a village/town
    - Switching between weapons or bow ammos mid-fight without getting hit is sometimes pretty hard
    - Tutorials are sometimes really invasive, pausing the game mid-fight
    - No track of the playtime

    Miscellanous:
    * There are different options for audio, display and controls, but they're not as good as they could (and some even should) be
    * The combat system lacks a manual targeting function. It's hard to deal with it at the beginning, but since it has been thought to be like that, you'll get used to it after a few hours. Though, sometimes the game's auto-target doesn't work as it should.
    * If rushed, the game lasts ~20/30 hours. If completed at 100% ~50/60 hours. Most players play it for ~40 hours.

Visually this is one of the most gorgeous games out there, and the combat is really fun. When you beat a boss you really feel awesome. The gameplay, however, is extremely one-note.

I think this is because unlike other open world RPG's like Horizon, Skyrim, and even God of War, in Ghosts of Tsushima you fight the entire game with the same weapon. And the only "stats" you can progress are really just health, melee damage, and amount of damage taken by an enemy. And this is mostly based on which armor you're wearing. I didn't find much use for most of the different armor sets you unlock, since again--there isn't a lot of variety of stats for them to affect. And the gameplay is pretty basic, so it doesn't impact the gameplay all that much either. I upgraded the default armor all the way and used that a majority of the time.

The game has a few extra things to help you in battle, like wind chimes, firecrackers, bombs, etc. But you can only carry about 3 of each, so it's not really game changing to have them. I honestly didn't even use them much aside from the final boss fight because I was desperate to fight off the waves of enemies. I was making due just fine with the basic stealth kills since the enemies were spaced out a lot most of the time.

The missions are extremely monotonous. I never felt like I was doing a whole lot, despite the long cut scenes that you can't skip, of characters telling you how important these missions are to them. And the game itself wasn't very long. You can do the main story missions and finish it pretty quick.

Then finally, the main story is pretty basic and kinda stupid. Your uncle is mad that you're saving everybody just because it isn't the samurai way. It's annoying to hear him complain so much about it while you're out here saving lives.

A fairly underwhelming game. I hope the sequel has more of a variety of things so that it feels like you're actually progressing. Made me wanna play something better once it was over, TBH.

The game is beautiful to look at. The combat is fine but ultimately is not interesting or complex enough for the length of the game. The story is fine but I was a little underwhelmed. But overall it was an above average game and I don't regret playing it.

Ghost of tsushima is the most overrated game so far this year. For every thing sucker punch has gotten right with their new IP they've completely missed the mark on two others.

    Some examples:

    1) An incredibly complex and well crafted progressive combat system. The problem here is that the game is so painfully easy on even the hardest difficulty that there is almost no need for such a combat system making it a waste of effort on the developers part. The only times i died after the first couple of hours has always been due to the camera issues. Which brings me to the second problem with the combat...the absolutely horrible camera angles. All the enemy types and boss fights can be breezed through with absolutely no effort whatsoever, as long as the camera doesn't decide to screw you over. Indoor fighting? Out of the question. Coming close to any object in the world mid fight? Completely blocks the camera. You dodge an enemy and get behind him? Better hope you can turn the camera fast enough before he counter attacks. And the list goes on and on with the camera issues.

    2) The world is incredibly well crafted both graphically as well as exploration wise. The navigation mechanics are very original, unique and unlike any other game. So what's the issue here? Well if you want to make an aggressive build for you character you get all the best gear that you need in the first 3 hours of the game. Effectively making any exploration for better gear obsolete. This turns the exploration into nothing more than xp farming to get new skills unlocked. Which are all skills that make an already incredibly easy game even easier.

    3) The story is very well written when you look at the dialog and character development. The English voice acting isn't top of the line by any means but is more than adequate and far above the average for most games. But every step of the way when progressing through both the main storyline as well as the side quests, more and more plot holes are added. And worst of all, everything is extremely predictable down to the tiniest details. You will see everything coming from a mile away. Not just simply with the main plot twists, but even within each individual dialog between characters you can predict every single sentence that will be said before they actually say it.

Overall great potential that completely missed the mark

    Combat 3/10
    Graphics 10/10
    Story 4/10
    Exploration 5/10

Enemy AI is laughably dumb, camera can get in the way too much and there isnt much that can be done to remedy this since you fight with the face buttons. Stance switching wasnt very nuanced at all. Just there to stagger enemies and leave them open. Most other attacks you unlock for stances are pretty much useless as they arent anymore viable than your basic moves. Other aspects of the gameplay include doing some pretty great side stories, some of which span the entirety of the game with many twists and turns. Although the endings to them can be hit or miss. This gane never really gets repetitive either. Theres alot of different collectibles to find and mongol territories to do. But since you can tackle then in any order its really your fault if it becomes repetitive. The story was well done with well written characters. Some archs i wouldve liked to see a bit more fleshed out. Overall, this game was good and I welcome a sequel if Sucker Punch chooses to return to Jin Sakai in the future. Expand

Ghost of Tsushima is a flawed, but fun, game. While the gameplay itself was solid, and the story was decent, I definitely expected a lot more from Sony’s final PlayStation 4 exclusive. It had enough to keep me hooked, but lacked the polish we’ve all grown to love from a Sony first party game.

Ultimately, it feels like the game could have benefited from a smaller scope or a more linear structure. Focus on the duels could have created a more engrossing product, especially if it honed in on the narrative for a more concise and cinematic experience. But as it stands, Ghost of Tsushima is another AAA open world title and doesn’t seek to define itself as anything other than that.
