Iron From Ice could have been The Walking Dead in a Westeros winter coat, yet it is a fresh and faithful addition to the Game of Thrones universe. The story, is of course, as well written and compelling as we’ve come to expect of Telltale, but it’s the frantic decision-making that makes this latest series another hit in the making.

Telltale triumphs again with a story as good as the original material, although we lack the feeling of being part of the main events.

Game of Thrones is off to a slow but not uneventful start, with an almost unfairly large heap of teases and promises for the next episode. The pacing is true to its source material--slow, taking its own time--but the payoff for major scenes is worth wading through.

The first episode, as is typical for Telltale, is nothing more than a foundation for the tale to come. It helps to establish new characters and the overall arc of the story. It's actually a slow start, but ends of such an incredibly cliffhanger that I really can't see anyone playing this and then not immediately investing in the season pass for the rest of the thing.

Issues with art style, but give us enough tough choices and drama and we'll soon stop noticing. [Feb 2015, p.77]

Overall, it feels like a very rocky beginning to a potentially exciting series.

Having played through Telltales The Walking Dead seasons 1 and 2 and the Wolf Among Us I had high expectations for the Game of ThronesHaving played through Telltales The Walking Dead seasons 1 and 2 and the Wolf Among Us I had high expectations for the Game of Thrones adaptation, I was not disappointed. I have heard great things about the Game of Thrones television series and I am yet to have watched any of it, I was not at all interested in watching it but after playing this amazing game I will be watching through the entire series up to date. You play as three characters, Gared Tuttle, Ethan Forrester and Mira Forrester (I believe that's Mira's second name), they are all three great characters, I thoroughly enjoyed the scenes where I played as Gared, he is by far my favourite of the three, then Ethan then Mira, throughout all Telltale games I have never encountered scenes as tense and never had choices as hard as the ones in Game of Thrones Episode 1: Iron From Ice. The art style is great but telltales point and click gameplay is as mediocre as any other of their games but this doesn't detract from the amazing story and experience, in my opinion this episode is perfect and I can't wait for the second. Any GoT fans or Telltale fans will enjoy this great story. Only problem is some weird graphical hiccups: (Not choppy like TWD or WAU on PS3/360) kind of makes some of the art look smeared or blurry. Besides that 1 minor flaw this game is overall amazing!

The TV series and the books, they’re both great. The books weave a fascinating story of loyalty, betrayal, honour, murder and so much more. And the TV series, which (quite understandably) does not strictly adhere to George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire”, gives a fantastic look into the world set out in his tomes. But with a story so wonderfully presented to us already, how and where can Telltale’s episodic video game fit in?

“Iron From Ice” was always going to be a side story, given that the main story is already a well trodden path. What Telltale needed to deliver was a different, as yet untold, chronicle that was both a part of Martin’s world and yet was new; something that was both familiar and yet original; a bit like something Schrodinger might write, and not. So how did they fair?

I actually felt that the game captured the spirit of Game of Thrones perfectly. The books and TV series could feel a little slow at times, and yet somehow underneath it all there is a sense of discomfort… like a brewing storm. The tension would build into a crescendo and would usually end with one or a lot of people being killed. Sometimes main characters would meet an untimely demise too. This sense of unease is something the game carries off perfectly.

For those who do know the story I can say that “Ice From Fire” starts at the Red Wedding. Without giving any spoilers away your character takes you very quickly away from the main story and onto a parallel one. The tale we are familiar with from our screens acts as a backdrop to the one we are told within the game itself, with well known characters appearing every now and again. It’s a good mix of old and new, making it feel as though you are a part of Game of Thrones.

Within the game you take control over three new characters all from the House of Forrester, a house loyal to the Starks. You play a squire (at the Twins), the lord (at his home) and a daughter (as a maid in King’s Landing) and it’s a very clever mix. You are forced to make decisions on many different levels, battling your wits against Frey soldiers to then meeting face to face with Cersei, the Queen herself.

If you who are not yet convinced what I can say is that Iron From Ice does a fantastic job of capturing the spirit of Game of Thrones. There is a story unravelling before your eyes, some of which you can control but others you cannot. It creeps and it broods, but above all (and this is what really swung me in favour of this game) it delivers that Game of Thrones moment. You’ll know it when you reach it, believe me!!

The graphics needs a lot of improvement but other than than I think Telltate Games can deliver the best GoT game ever in the near future.

I don't.. I don't understand how people enjoyed this iteration from Telltale. I'm a huge fan of The Wolf Among Us and the first episode ofI don't.. I don't understand how people enjoyed this iteration from Telltale. I'm a huge fan of The Wolf Among Us and the first episode of Tales from the Borderlands.

This game was awful. The writing and pace of this story was horribly slow and only barely managed to pick up just before the credits rolled. The art style is very pixelated which I wasn't a fan of and you spend the entire game playing a coward apprentice, a small child, and a selfish, entitled young girl.

The young boy had easily the most interesting part in the story, which isn't saying much. The game was full of horrible dialogue and overly dramatic facial animations (mainly frowns) and unnecessarily drawn out conversations.

I played this, along with two of my friends, one being a female.. All three of us were disappointed and thought it was incredibly boring and weak-written.

And yet it's getting praise from just about every media outlet and gaming forum. Normally I consider myself to be with the majority, as far as game opinion is concerned, but I don't understand why everyone is going so crazy over this game.

It is easily the weakest of all the Telltale games available currently. Even though it was only a first episode, it doesn't even compare to the blowout that was the first episode of Tales from the Borderlands and I'm not even a fan of the Borderlands universe. Yet both games are getting 8/10's as if on the same level.
