Fortnite's polished gameplay and visual charm stands out from the hordes of other zombie games that have arrived in the past few years. When it hits free-to-play in 2018 it's going to be a compelling product for anyone who enjoys cooperative games. For now it's held back by an invasive microtransaction model and design imperfections that keep it from being another trophy for Epic Games.

The ultimate effort of the US home team is to combine the excellent experience of the third-person shooter with foundational elements of some of the most successful works of the last few years, in an effective and convincing manner, at least from the gambling point of view.

The cooperative horde shooter formula still works great and Epic Games knows it, but Fortnite doesn't quite deliver.

Fortnite wants to cover more than it can. Its three pillars of action, construction and management are too independent. To make matters worse, it feels too focused on opening piñatas (chests) and pay-to-continue.

Fortnite feels a lot like Dungeon Keeper. It's a worthy game with interesting gameplay, and where everything is ruined by greedy monetization. The ripoff is less obvious than in EA's game but it's still a pain. We suggest waiting until 2018 when the game will be truly free-to-play.

The basics of Fortnite are great: building a base and fighting zombies is amazing, especially when you play with friends.

Fortnite: Battle Royale is a fast-paced arcade alternative to PUBG, but it fails in the tension department. Its good fun when you play like you don’t only have one life, but that in and of itself makes it feel like an oddity that hasn’t quite found its identity yet.

Those who don’t want to pay to try something that’s almost finished and/or planned as an eventual free-to-play game might want to wait for the final product in 2018. Those who are curious enough and willing to pay the price of admission now might want to bring a trusted buddy along for the ride since it’s one of those repetitive games that’s instantly better with familiar company. It’s a paid beta, though (which is iffy in itself in some ways), and so there’s lots of room and time for improvement. It’s just a shame that a game with such polished shooting and looting is bogged down by such clunky menus, tangled systems and tiresome mechanics. We’ll re-examine Fortnite as and when the big changes come, but for now it’s a lot of fun, once you’re comfortable with how it all works.

I assume this will be f2p come January. This game literally revolves around buying in game loot packs.

    Short: Save your money!

This game has Potential but it is not used due to ignorant developers. The main parte of the game is grinding, but this grinding doesn't lead to any schematics. Husks or zombies dont drop anything. Only way to get forward in this game is by farming llamas.

I bought the deluxe founders pack and opened around 150 llamas so far. Not one Single legendary hero and/or weapon. This is redicilous.

If they implement drop rates with the husks, then this game can get a good one. But like this is is Really up to you,, to spend Hundes of Dollars to get forward. It is really a pure pay2win (-progress) title.

    Save your money...

I can't recommend this game and the behavior of the developers is forcing me to write my first review. I used the feedback button many times,I can't recommend this game and the behavior of the developers is forcing me to write my first review. I used the feedback button many times, I adressed directly on twitter, I wrote on Facebook and I wrote an email to the supporters. But they just don't care. All they want to hear are positive news about their game. There is no will in improving or making better.

I bought the Founders Edition deluxe, with a copy for my daughter. So I spent 90 € on this game. And first, especially if you see videos everything is so exciting and new. The gameplay is smooth, the characters are fine, the loot is overwhelming (at first).

But if you are into the game for a few hours, you recognize it is a big cash maschine. The only way to loot and lvl your gear up is through llamas. And the normal llamas, as well as the rare llamas are containing a lot of trash.

I opened, thanks to the Founders deluxe editions hundres of llamas. So far not one single legendary character or weapon. Just normal stuff.

The biggest problem of this game is, that there is no sense in doing all that. The zombies don't drop loot. The treasures in the world are only for the next games, no chance to find any schematics. You do the same over and over again for nothing. This game is, with this state of play, a total waste of time and money.

They just want, you put more and more money into that game for a really boring early access. I played hundreds of games in my life. But this game so far is the first game I regret spending money on.

The behavior and the goals of the developers are really something you should be aware of!
