Concept: Create a hybridization of Final Fantasy elements both old and new without it feeling like a cheap adventure title with the name plastered on but not really holding onto elements dear to the series.

Graphics: The graphics are for the most part spectacular and the animations are impressive and detailed. Camera angles are odd at times especially when paused mid-combat, however the gameplay never suffers as a result.

Sound: The voice acting is superb and there is an available collection of classic melodies from Final Fantasies both old and new. Some of the Final Fantasy XV pieces themselves are less stellar than others, however the soundtrack is passable.

Playability: The locomotion in terms of vehicles is one of the worst elements of the game as it is such an integral part of gameplay at times. However, combat and overall control of the game handles well once you overcome a slight skill gap.

Entertainment: The world and players won’t lack for activities both main and side content related to dive into. While the experience takes a hit in its later narrative exploits and also in its ability to traverse the expansive world, the overall experience is an enjoyable and worthwhile one.

    Replay Value: High.

The PS1 era Final Fantasy titles remain amongst my favourite experiences in gaming and, while this latest entry in the series isn’t quite up to those standards, it’s certainly an improvement over some of the rather forgettable recent efforts.
In terms of story the attempts to create a sort of “brotherhood” amongst the four main characters will help to give players more of an investment in their party than they perhaps did in Final Fantasy XII or XIII but, to be honest, the characters still aren’t as memorable as those from the PS1 days and the plot becomes a bit of a mess by the end. The open world itself certainly looks great but, outside of the enjoyable “monster hunting”, too many of the side quests are simple “fetch quests” and best just ignored. On a side note, and this is a criticism of open world games in general rather than Final Fantasy XV in particular, why do characters giving out side quests just stand in the same position for however long it takes you to get back to them? (One guy waited by his car in the middle of nowhere for 2 weeks until I brought him a repair kit to fix it!)

Those that have been following the series will know that it has increasingly moved away from traditional turn based combat, something which does seem to have split fans. Personally I don’t have a problem with updating the old school RPG combat (did anyone actually like random battles?) as long as what replaces it is good and the combat here is pretty enjoyable, arguably even bordering on excellent at times. It certainly takes a bit of getting used to but, once you get a handle on it, it does prove to be suitably deep with a large selection of weapons and special moves available to tackle the enemies which all have different strengths and weaknesses to counter. The only real issue for me in the end was that the camera was pretty poor at giving you a decent view of the action, especially when you’re fighting in more confined spaces or when you get surrounded by large groups of enemies, you can manually move the camera but getting it in the right place in the heat of battle isn’t exactly easy.

There are a few other issues, such as relatively long loading times when “fast travelling” or car journeys that require you to just sit and watch as a passenger for periods of up to 5 minutes, but these are minor annoyances rather than anything that completely spoil the game.

To sum everything up Final Fantasy XV is a good game that will appeal to most fans of the genre, thanks to a few design decisions and camera issues that affect any combat in confined spaces however, it falls short of being considered an all-time classic in the way that some of the earlier entries in the series are.

Maybe its not Versus but at all it's better than i excepted after all thoose years. Mature and sad story, top graphics, one of the best soundtracs. Major disappointment of this game for me is causality, some of Astrals unsumonable and lack of females in party (except quests). I'm waiting for future patches and improvements.

FFXV is a disgrace of FF franchises. I had known before played that this game was not much good, still it was even worse than my expectation. I could not bring myself to finish it. I could not bring myself to finish it. I stopped at the middle of chapter 5. The major problem is the story writing is so terrible, "VERY TERRIBLE". It started with boredom and kept on going with boredom. I heard that the latter chapters are even more of boredom so I decided to give up. I did not buy this game just to chill out with car driving or fishing or cooking meal. I need excitement. FF series always create excitement but this game fail miserably in this area. ( Actually, I am a fan of FF, but I won't protect it because of that)

Combat system is one and only ok thing in the game. It is just ok not great. Most of the time, you don't know what you are doing. Keep blocking and waiting for parrying are the safest way to win yet most boring way but you have no choice because the battle always become chaos. Legendary weapons will drains your hp (I don't know who come up with this idea but it is stupid.) It is fun for a while before you start feeling repetitive for doing the same and the same. You have no control of your friends either, which contradict with the standard of FF series thus far. It is unique system though so I don't want to be harsh but it is barely hold players. It needs refinement. Magic is an item now WTF and Summoning has no freedom. Many things went wrong here.

    Other Bad Points
    1. Loading time kills the game
    2.Car speed is too slow
3.No girl in your party (Seriously ?)
    4.Graphic is not that impressive.
    5.Boring uninspired sidequests
6.Music is not memorable as other previous FF title

Good point ?? - I don't know, can't think of any. Maybe Luna looks good, that is it

Overall, it is just an barely ok game. It has length, open world and unique battle system, but they should not put the "FF" name on this one. If you are looking to open-world game, I suggest go for Horizon Zero Dawn instead. 5 of 10 is a very generous score from me. Without an acceptable yet flawed combat system, the score would have been much lower.

Regarding the gameplay, I think this new action-RPG approach is taking the franchise in a good direction and it brings the combats to a higher level of enjoyment. Unlike other Final Fantasy games, I didn't really need to do level grinding in order to progress through the story (except for chapter 14) completing only the side quests I was feeling like doing, which makes everything more dynamic.

The only negative things about this game are: bad camera handling (sometimes I lost track of Noctis) especially during combat ; the story is told poorly with gaps here and there ; and many of the side quests are irrelevant which makes completing 100% of them not really attractive.

The story of this game is good and interesting, but the problem is if you want to understand the whole story then you have to first watch Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV and Brotherhood Final Fantasy XV.

This new battle system known as Active X Battle (AXB) is similar to the battle system used in Final Fantasy Type-0 and Kingdom Hearts. The player can only control Noctis, while the other characters are controlled by the AI. In battle, the player can use co-op moves that allows interaction with other characters. The magic system is not very good, while the summoning system is interesting. If Noctis gets KO'd then it's game over, but when Noctis falls to 0 HP then begins critical status and you have a limited time to heal. This battle system is good and interesting, but I was hoping that they will use and improve the ATB system from the previous Final Fantasy games. From Final Fantasy XII to Final Fantasy XV, they began to apply a battle system in which a player can only control one character, which is bad. The last Final Fantasy game where the player could control all the characters in the battle was Final Fantasy X. Unfortunately, after the Final Fantasy X series they stopped using the two best battle systems they made. The CTB system from Final Fantasy X and the ATB system from Final Fantasy X-2 were the best-improved versions of the traditional Turn-Based Battle system. They should use and improve one of these two battle systems or both in new Final Fantasy games. The thing I like in this game is the development of characters. The Ascension Grid is much better than the Sphere Grid from Final Fantasy X.

The idea of the open world is interesting, but they have broken the important rule of JRPGs. At the very beginning, the player can explore the whole world, can complete almost all sidequests and can train all the characters to the maximum level without progressing the story. For me, that's the worst thing in this game. JRPGs must have a semi-open world because in JRPGs the player was supposed to explore the world through the story: step by step the world should open to player to explore, to complete all sidequests and to train all the characters to the maximum level. That they have made this game as a semi-open world and that they put a CTB or ATB system, then this game would be perfect. But since they did not do so, then I gave a score 8 out of 10.

Conclusion: They have give more effort that this game have a excellent graphics and the mechanism of the open world, but they also should give the same effort to make excellent gameplay. In the end I can say that the game is good but they could do it even better. It's a good JRPG and I enjoyed playing it.

The gameplay is weird. You play as a skinny kid who does not know how to run and looks like an anime cartoon living in the real world. His main skill is throwing his sword and then teleporting to it. In an excruciating tutorial, you learn to teleport to enemies to attach and teleport to the ceiling for defense. You can also order your 3 friends to conduct a special attack every now and then. After a few hours, I learned the best tactic was to have my allies conduct their special attack when the giant bosses were starting their attack animations. Then the game became simple button mashing and grinding levels to make the boss fights easier.

The game world is inscrutable. The game in theory has an open world. What this really means is that there are large stretches of featureless, low texture terrain between cookie-cutter buildings. It also means roadblocks, cliff faces, and high walls to prevent the player from travelling out of the game area. Final Fantasy XV embraces the kind of open world we saw in the PS2 generation. There is little explanation of why people are fighting with swords in an age of guns and walking tanks. We also have no idea how people have cell phones and cars in a world that seems bereft of any kind of industry. There is mention of an asteroid that brought magic or whatever. After a 26 hour playthrough, I knew about as much as I did at the start of the game. The story is at least light on cutscenes for this type of game. There are few focused segments that tell the story through in-game dialogue and events. FYI, Square Enix, you can design a whole game where the story is told in-game.

I have the strong feeling that this game was supposed to have launched in the PS3 era. In addition to the low quality environments, some of the boss fights have subpar graphics. None of the areas feature many people, certainly nothing to level we've come to expect in the PS4 era. (Assassin's Creed Unity, which launched in 2014, had enormous crowds.) The gameplay is also severely limited for a game that has historically let players customize their parties. Development clearly went awry and the final product was not better for it. I have a strong feeling that the odd fighting system was implemented to help may the game few "new".

Total disclosure: I paid $2.50 for this game. Were I a fan of the series, I would have paid $60 to play on day one. Maybe because I am not a fan, my 26 hour playthrough was mostly confusing and off-putting. The gameplay was interesting enough to get me into the next fight but mostly in a grindy way that ensured the boss fight would be easier. (Though I do not like grinding, I find it preferable to dying and reloading.) I was also surprised to see little customization of the characters. This game is not so much an RPG as it is a fighting game with levels. I've played better fighting games with levels.

It may be unfair to judge this compared to it's predecessors, but I haven't cared less about a Final Fantasy game's story like I did for FFXV. I'm hoping DLC will change that, though it's disappointing to need DLC to feel a sense of completion with the story in a series such as this. I hope Square does not continue down the path and, instead, releases a full game next go around. For all the years in development, even though the game was probably scrapped and restarted from step one, I'm disappointed.

I really enjoyed the gameplay and side quests. If the main story was even half as good as I hoped it was going to be, then this would be a 9 or 10 for me. But the main story was so disjointed and full of holes that I felt virtually no sense of intrinsic reward/happiness/sadness/anything when it finally ended.

Just finished the game, and I have to say that I got exactly what I paid for. IMO, this is one of the best RPG's ever made, easy tie with FF7. My only real complaint with the game was the part where they attempted to add horror in the game, NO! The horror was really bad because they relied on the classic dark area with several jump scares. Final Fantasy games have always been divisive and I think this is going to be one of them. If in the past you played FF7 or 8 and just thought it was too boring or confusing to get into don't spend money on this game. It won't be for you. That being said dont write it off if you're interested. Watch Kingsglave before hand and then dive in. As long as you have a fair amount of previous interest going in to it you will get over that Boring Jrpg early game content. Case and point , I've clocked 4 hours and It's just starting to flesh out.

It is definitely the best thing this franchise has put out since ps2 though. I am loving it personally.

Combat, graphics, history (this is a little confuse if you did not watch the movie before play), soundtrack, everything. Even the way you level up is perfect. In these 20 hours, I saw only one bug, Gladiolus turns invisible for a while and I just could see his sword but in fact, the game is so good that this bug made me laugh at the time.

DUNGEONS. Yes, this final fantasy has amazing dungeons to explore. One of the best parts of exploration.
The game also has side quests. Hunts, treasures, ingredients, weapon improvements, all kind of quest. I was not walking through the world doing nothing in these 20 hours in fact, I'm pretty busy right now!

So, fan of final fantasy or not, if you like RPG, buy it. I have to play more to have a definitive opinion although a game that made happy for 20 hours, knowing that it's just the beginning, already convinced me that it's worth it.

The over all plot is a bit rushed and lacking context around characters if you haven't seen the supplemental material. I'm a believer that the game should be enough to tell the story. The pacing is decent, but not awful. Also, treating the adventure like a modern day road trip was a very nice touch. That's exactly what it feels like. The only down fall is that the day and night cycle can be a burden when you're lower levels, but once you get past that, things become more fluid.

    Graphics: 10.
Clearly a lot of effort was put into this part, and it shows. Everything from characters to scenery is meticulous and beautiful. Just running around is a reward in itself and makes exploration worth the effort.

    Combat: 8.
A lot of work was put here as well. It's fluid and spectacular, but the execution falls short of the consistency needed to really stand out. Evasion and blocking need further refining as you'll find yourself hitting the buttons with more than enough time to spare and getting no reaction from Noctis, and, even so, evading should be more responsive in a game trying to go action based, especially with the cameral so close to Noctis during combat. Many an enemy will take you in the back from off screen, and a hit in the back does massive damage. Also the leveling seems off. You'll find yourself using tons of potions agains enemies at the same level or even lower. The combat is equal parts amazing and equal parts frustrating. I do think Square is on to something with this model though.

    Music:
9 The only reason it doesn't get a 10 is because some of the battle music, while epic, doesn't elicit the kind of urgency or epic-ness of past FFs. Still amazing and appropriate work though. (Music from the past FFs do not count.

Over all the game is worth the buy if you're an FF fan. If you're not, then you might want to wait as the combat is not as responsive or "fair" as it should be. Basically victory depends on either having sufficient stocks or being 20 lvls higher than your enemy and THEN the game might let you live. (Exaggerating, but there's a particle of truth.)

FF X was the end of the old traditional FF turn based combat while In XII and XIII SquareEnix experimented with new battle systems that the fans never fully embraced. With FF XV I believe SquareEnix has found its form of seamless exploration and combat that is both fluid and engaging. The beautiful open world and combat designed in XV will hopefully be an excellent foundation for the new FF era.

The massive gameplay overhaul in FF XV however meant that the designers had to experiment with new systems and ways that sometimes make the players ask why didn't they come up with a better way. For example the much critiqued magic and summon system. In addition the time and budget constraint along with the need to design the game from the ground up meant that the developers had limited time to develop other aspects of the game which is apparent in the story and repetitive MMO-like sidequests.

The core of any good JRPG is the story. Unfortunately FF XV stumbles at telling a clear, well paced story to the players. In the beginning they started off with Kingsglaive event that brought a sense of urgency. However after the introduction the writers seemed reluctant on disclosing any more information on the story such that the motives of main characters and the villains seemed thin, confusing and meaningless for the next tens of hours.

Another design consideration that slightly annoys me is the host club/boyband-like character design for the four main guys. It just begs the question of WHY? when the rest of the cast (Luna, Izunia, Aranea, etc) have excellent and unique character design.

Ultimately Final fantasy XV is a fun and refreshing game. For every bad decision made by the designers there were two good decisions. Hopefully with the concept already laid down SquareEnix can build and polish the next final fantasy franchise to the next level.

Also the worst part of this game is how easy it is. With a game such as Final Fantasy I remember a true challenge but this didn't cut it. I think they made it easy to engage all ages but I was only a kid when I played FFVII and it was such an accomplishment to beat but with this game I felt empty after defeating the final boss. Hope they have a DLC like to witcher 3 for leveling.

I played this game for the past few hours of my time which I proceeding the story for a bit, but actually, I was played thru hunting quest to kill many wild and crazy creatures around the map. The combat of this game is not that bad at all. Instead of the usual traditional button-mashing, you only need to hold a button to attack any enemies and the red-shield icon appears, you quickly hold another button to block and parry at the right time. I take some time to get use to it, but it's a real deal. However, the camera is somewhat annoying when you're in the middle of the battle, behind wall, branch, trees... Yep, this is your real enemy.

The environment is beautiful, I couldn't stop looking at it when the car drives itself or running around like feeling the breeze.

The music is outstandingly amazing, 'nuff said.

Like I said before, I played for a few hour and I still need to continue more gameplay until the end.

By concluding this review, the game is worth your time after 10 years of waiting. Yes, the camera has abit of a problem while in combat mode, but this rest is still standing out. If you're a type of people who is looking of a awesome improved combat than the turn-based strategy, than this game is you and for first timers.

I wish I could rate this game better. I am a long time Final Fantasy fan, I have played every Final Fantasy except I, II and III and tons of other RPGs and JRPGs and action/adventure games. And sadly this game doesn't succeed in being good at none of these categories.
First, the good things: the gameplay is good, if you are into action RPGs it is one of the best battle systems out there.

First, the good things: the gameplay is good, if you are into action RPGs it is one of the best battle systems out there. Even if I prefer more classical systems in RPGs I really enjoyed every fight of my 50 hours of gameplay. Graphics are beautiful. The cities are unique, inventive and beautifully rendered, even if sometimes they lack inspiration, the natural wilderness is vast, diverse and incredibly beautiful, the dungeons are surprisingly interesting and clever.
But unfortunately that's it. The open world of FFXV may be visually amazing and vast but it is empty and boring. RPG open worlds need content, background story, good, interesting and diverse NPC dialogues, sidequests that expand on the story and the lore. FFXV has nothing of this.
Story: this is the worst part. It is by far the most boring and worst written story of every Final Fantasy and of most modern RPGs. There is almost no story progression. Few and useless dialogues. Useless and boring NPC chatter which never helps expanding on the world and the story. At no time in the game there is a sense of purpose, an epic turn of events, a tragic worldchanging moment (and the actual ones all happen offscreen). The characters are bland and irritating.

I won't spoil anything here, but I can tell you chapter 1-8 and 9-15 is complete two different games. I know it's really hard to put 3 stories into 1.

For the second part, It is perfect. You can do whatever you want, whatever you can image in a giant open world, hundreds of interesting side mission, lots of hidden information. Ride Chocobo, fishing, hunter, cooking...etc.

The Fighting System is a total Mess and far away from being innovative or even fun to play, most of the Time you are holding Down the attack button ,pressing the block button when asked to. Your Companions are worthless in Fights and get themselves Killed most of the Time because they are to stupid to move away when a boss does a Areal attack, and the lack of story telling CGI movies made me almost cry because this was what the big flair of FF was, watching a epic 30min cgi after struggeling through a chapter of the game was always great and a nice way to progress the story and get informed what happened behind the scenes while you fought a building high foe.
these are the reasons for me this is no real FF but an ok rpg in a FF-esque world.

Now to the Good parts. The Open world and the possibilities to Explore via Chocobo are Great and you loose hours exploring a new found Dungeon ,go fishing or hunting Monsters for Cash while leeaving the Main Story behind.TheSummons are Epic and its just great watching Ramuh or Leviathan Destroying everything while you watch them from the Ground!Discovering new Receipes for Ignis and taking a Foto tour with Prompto are good fun too especially because they actually help you and give you new Perks/buffs for the next day after you ate them.In my opinion they should have taken a year more time, while canceling Kingsglaive and instead cut the movie (with additional Material) and add it as cutscenes into the game, also they should have wheter do a real Realtime Battle System ala DMC or something else or just leave it Round Based like FF always was just cooler looking (the wait mode they included as other method of Fighting isnt really a choice) also they hould have let you choose wich char of your party you want to control and switch between the OTF.also they should have added more Party members and let the group build up like in old games where u start alone or as Duo and meet everyone else on your journey.
And what really bugged me was the last §rd of the Game as it was linear AF only getting on one path until the final Conclusion, wich felt just wrong after having so much freedom the last 40hrs before that finish., and they left huuuge story holes open, probably for future DLC wich is a shame!

I share with you my concerns about the game BEFORE playing and how this was addressed. I will also share the things I enjoyed and disliked, WITH NO STORY SPOILERS from what I have played so far.

**Since the past demos, I was worried about three things**
    1. In the demos, the combat system felt very clunky. I am pleased to see that the COMBAT HAS GREATLY IMPROVED. The combos/skills etc. feel very smooth and connect very well even within a **** of 15+ adds plus the party members. There's minor clipping here and there, but that's to be expected. They really did a great job at improving the combat system.

    2. Framerate issues. 15 hrs into the game and NONE so far. However bugs are not uncommon. At one time Ignis turned transparent and stayed like this for about 10 minutes until I switched to a loading screen. For what its worth mentioning, I'm using a normal PS4 (Arkham bundle) from 2015. No Pro.

    3. Car simulator: I was anticipating a car-tamagotchi-survival system that would deviate me from the storyline/side quests and eat chunks of my time. This is not the case. I found this aspect VERY APPEALING and it barely takes anytime away from your other objectives. Just keep the gas tank up.

    **Things I enjoying a lot**
    1. The photograph skill from Prompto: Before FF15 released I was expecting meh. But the pictures turn out really good! Awesome poses and the more you interact with environments, even if its just strolling by a restaurant or a mound of rock, cool pictures will come out. I've never had to take my own screenshots because you can save these and they are really good!

    2. Nightime: It gives an eerie sense of danger. The atmosphere, music adds a lot to this vibe. Sometimes I find myself hesitating and waiting until daytime because of the dangers that lurk in the night :3

    3. Taking care of the car is fun and simple. And new decals, rims and mats to color the car can be found or bought.

    4. Autopilot driving while listening to your favorite FF soundtrack = epic! I silently cried of joy driving to destinations to the FF7's Main Theme and FF8's Find your Way. ALL FF fans will love this feature xD

    5. Ascension system: SIMPLE and GORGEOUS. Its similar to the FFX Sphere Grid system, but it does not limit you to finding orbs to proceed. If you're like me and like to grindfest early you will enjoy this. You can skill up many aspects of your game early on if you prefer to do so.

    6. Food buffs: EASY TO GET and HELPFUL. You can get these for relatively low prices (which will scale up with better buffs) or having Ignis cook from recipes he learns from camping cutscenes, buying foods at dinners/restaurants or by simply finding mats. They do make a difference in combat.

    7. OPEN WORLD: ignore the salty reviews about the openworld being small. BS. It is BIG af. The map doesn't look big? ... start running and exploring it then get back to me ;)

    Notable dislikes:

    1. Spellcasting could be smoother and maybe linked to skills.
    2. Prompto can be annoying at times. But at others he will definitely make you lol..
    3. Load times... you even got time to go pee and return.

Thank you for taking the time to read my opinion and review. I hope you enjoy FF XV as much as I!

Consequently, each entry has both its avid supporters and vocal detractors among its own fan base and the gamer community in general. I know plenty of people who's favorite Final Fantasy games are some that I consider low points for the franchise. Final Fantasy XV is no different. It can't be everything to everyone. But it comes about as close as any game can!

Final Fantasy XV tells a very grand, epic story (as you'd expect) punctuated with small, personal moments. It drew me in from the first moments of its very understated beginning. When I play a game, what I look for more than almost anything else is a world worth living in. After all, that's what we do when we play a game, we get to live in a different world. And the world of Final Fantasy XV is massive and full of beauty, danger, and delight. There's so much to explore and do in the world that it's easy to lose sight of the story.

The battle system is quite fun. It has just enough variety and strategy (if you choose to take the less brute force approach) to keep it interesting. I didn't care for the magic system - just my preference, it wasn't fundamentally flawed or anything - and I wish there was a greater degree of control over the summons. I would've like to see more summons as well, if only because the provide the game with some of its most breathtaking spectacle.

Final Fantasy XV is a game worth experiencing. I highly recommend it. I've loved nearly every moment in this game, and I think it bodes very well for the future of the franchise.

I am amazed by how beautiful the world is! I just couldn't stop playing because of how interesting the characters were. My love towards final fantasy grew after I finished the game.
A solid game with a good story, interesting characters, and a large world filled with so much stuff to do.
    A Must buy

I've finished the game and spent around 60 hours playing it.

It's alright. The game presents a simple story, and focuses more on the characters However, in its speed to be a lot more character focused, I've had a hard time identifying with the characters on a more personal level. Maybe it's because the game isn't aimed at me? Oh wait... "For old and newcomers"- Yeah, it's for everyone.

So why do I feel detached? Maybe it's that the main character is a prince and while a lot of bad things happen to him, it also feels like a lot of things are given to him. Some of the story elements feel important but aren't stressed or made clear enough, and some might say to watch the added movies/shorts Square Enix put out for us for that, but... Why should I do that?
Regardless, the story managed to bring me into it. I can't say why exactly since that'll be stepping into spoiler territory, however, it is suffice to say that even if you hate the characters, and don't understand the story, the game doesn't beat you around the head for it.

More gameplay focused, the fighting system is simplified, and you don't have to understand or be very good at all its elements or tactics to move through the entirety of the game, which I always consider a plus- my problem is that those who do master a portion of it still have a very solid problem getting "Good" at it. Simplifying is good, but abandoning the 'Easy to use Hard to master' idea to streamline things, in my opinion, is a failure.
Nevertheless, the game won't punish you too much for not being a two button master, and you could move through the game.

Moving into open world territory, Square had a big problem with this thing called 'Immersion', Yeah, I know it's a word thrown around, but when I do something and get bumped by an invisible wall, or some prompt doesn't work fluently and I end up jumping like an ass for three times until it works, or you try to get into certain areas in End-Game territory- I won't spoil it, but listen if you may- and the game pushes you away from them, likely because it didn't actually model the area, it just wants you to sight see. And that's my issue, I want to BE there, no just SEE it. Whle most of the game doesn't have that sin, and does a very clean job of letting you look at a backdrop and also playing around in it, the fact it doesn't make the entire game world that way is highly disappointing. Back-Once-When, Final Fantasy worlds weren't that huge, and that allowed you to get everywhere at some point, and that was fine. Should they have cut down the world and made it only of the accessible areas? Yes. Instead of invisible-wall shoving, yes.

Perhaps that's my biggest problem with it: On one side, I really like a lot of elements in it. On the other, I can't help but feel a lot of things are missed here that didn't happen in previous Final Fantasy games. That didn't happen in other games. I come to Final Fantasy for the story, and now there's also awesome gameplay. But...

I just wish those two were polished more. Yeah, think about that, this game has been in the works for 10 years, and back in the Episode Duscae and Platinum Demo the combat system still felt bad up until the game itself.
You can see Square is trying, but I can't say they're at that level yet.

Try harder, Square- This is DEFINETELY better than FF 13 and its iterations.

My first Final Fantasy which I completed. I barely scratched FF X and FF XIII, so I consider myself new to the genre. After 10 years of developing this game should be perfect, but it isn't. I sunk for over 56h and yesterday got my platinum trophy.

Final Fantasy XV has great chemistry between the characters, a tight focus on the overarching plot, A truly fantastical world that has unique areas that are accessed quickly with well designed, branching path dungeons. Great combat system that can chain different weapons together, so you don't just hold a button down. A very Final Fantasy feel: Epic monsters, balanced party, a great day night cycle, cool easter eggs. It's just a shame how critical people feel they have to be and keep themselves from enjoying great games like this one. It's a Medium to light RPG with fun gameplay loops and amazing world to explore with sights to take in at almost every turn. It's a masterpiece that shouldn't be missed by any rpg fan. I'm a long time fan of the franchise and I enjoyed every minute of it. I like the story, the characters, the music, the game-play, the graphics, and everything in between (like when i thought Noctis was executing a limit break by flying off and all i could see was the landscape below me.... then Noctis dropped down and was below the streets. It was hilarious.)

While I truly dislike the latter, at the end of the 40+ hour adventure despite the plot hiccups, I found myself emotionally attached to the characters. All in all, this journey between the 4 band of brother plays off even when I'm not sure what this journey was about.

Graphic: 8/10: Would be a 10 if there wasn't any framerate issues but the world still looks great!

Story 6/10: If this wasn't a Final Fantasy series it would probably get an 8 but there are just too many out of character moments that just don't add up in the end.

Gameplay 8/10: Everything is fluent in the game my only complaint would be that the camera is a bit funky, and really messed up the combat.

Audio 9.5/10: The soundtracks are great!!! the idea of putting all the FF-series soundtracks in the game is GENIUS!!! There are some moments when dialogue is hard to hear due to monsters or random music but that's only a small issue.

This game is great for those looking to fill their Final Fantasy fix and by this I mean if you're looking to become involved with on screen characters. If so, then this game will be for you, maybe not in the beginning but the best things come to those who wait.

The game really starts to finally hit its stride around Chpt 8. Aside from a quick story set up, the first set of hours feel like a waste of time. The visuals in this game are stunning and honestly the N'Sync band of characters do mesh well especially in battle, however, the battle camera is infuriating.

I think the biggest issue I have with the game is...its called Final Fantasy.

I think the biggest issue I have with the game is...its called Final Fantasy. FANTASY. Where are the talking animals? The humanoid robots? Magically created characters? Where are the mages? Why am I driving in a car? In this expansive world...why is everything only 3 miles worth of driving distance? Where's my Fire, Fira, Firaga?

Now that I'm done complaining, the game is really good. Even FF fans have to say so. I've beaten 8 of the Final Fantasys and this one is among the good one's. As mentioned the landscapes are beautiful, the character development isn't bad, the action sequences are pretty cool as are the real time battles and boss fights (honestly the battle with Leviathan was freaking awesome), and Ardyn goes into my top 5 of Final Fantasy bad guys. He's like a subtle version of Kefka's sadistic personality mixed with Vayne Solidor's bravado and style.

The game could have been better, but it could have been worse. The story was sub-par and the driving in the car was unnecessary. It seems like the side quests tried to borrow from Elder Scrolls style of filler with fetch quests. But the battle system is fun, the ascension system isn't bad, the characters are pretty pretty to relate to, and the modernization of it works to a point.

Much in the way FFIX tried to pay tribute to its predecessors, this game is filled with nods to the storied series.

This game is about brotherhood, the bond between friends, and the duty to one's purpose. No different than a good book, keep the genre(brotherhood) of this game fresh in your mind as you play. Take every little nuance of the relationship between the main cast as you play, and I promise you the character will quickly rise as some of your favorites in the series. The only thing that remained constant in the 10 year development period was the relationship between the main cast, and oh my, the polish is there.

Other highlights of the game are top tier console graphics, an amazing soundtrack by yoko, and flashy combat. However, I have to acknowlege the shortcomings of the game: storytelling. The content is there, but too much was saved for DLC or rushed. I think after all content is released, the gaming community will look fondly on the completed story; however, I think as it stands right now the DLC model stomped on it.

Cons: Not a traditional FF game, or JRPG for that matter. I've played almost every FF game that existed, and I loved them, so this major change in style leaves me mourning the loss of a FF I once knew. That said, things change. Also, there are moments the camera is broken, mainly due to confined spaces. Some repetitive voice overs when out and about, doing mundane tasks. Not a huge fan of the magic system (basically, you make magic "bombs").

My only real issue was the lack of a few much needed cut-scene's to explain what happened after Chapter 8 with a few important characters that by Chapter 13 (which mind you is a long and quite annoying chapter), you can't help but want that extra story/scene development. As of this posting though, Tabata said they will be adding scenes for the future to flesh it out more which I am quite alright with after some other peoples thoughts mirrored my own.

Overall, I give this game a 9.5+ out of 10 regardless, and quite happy with the game that I will continue to play for a long time and in the future. (It doesn't beat, story-wise my favorite FF which was X; but the combat and characters are both very excellent)

For me, not only was this game refreshing, but it was fun, and downright addictive. The graphics were amazing, as one might expect from a square enix game, and the characters truly are deep and interesting. I felt the 4 main characters really made this game awesome.

The story was good, though a bit confusing until you get all the facts towards the end of the game, but I had no problems following it. The ending really does bring it all together and provides a satisfactory conclusion (in my opinion).

As for the game play, I know it isn't turn based but I actually prefer this style because it makes things move quicker while still maintaining a level of strategy. For example, you can customize the battle by changing your friends' special moves, and you can scan enemies to find out what weapons and spells they are weakest to and priced accordingly. In short, I didn't think this was just a hack and slash with no depth.

Some of the side quests can be a bit repetitive, but I actually had a lot of fun doing them. Also, I guess in the way of criticism, some of the dungeons were a bit tedious, but they don't by any means break the game. If I could tell square enix to change one thing it would be to let us save in all the dungeons, because I cannot imagine my power going out in the middle of some of those and having to do them over again. Lol.

I feel like a lot of story elements are justified in the game, even if I don't like them.

The best thing about XV is it's story, with its characters, and combat following close behind. While i still think VII has the best story, XV comes close in my opinion. It's not perfect, but then again, no story is. XV always kept suprising me to the very end. The characters are wonderful and i never got tired of them and the combat was way better then i expected. All of these things combined is what truly make XV such a hard game for me to rank. But one thing i can say is that XV is definitely the best entry of recent years, and if this is the future of Final Fantasy then i can't wait for the next one.

I like the game because FF for me has always been about trying something new. Here we have a huge open world with lots of areas to explore, monsters and bosses to kill, side quest to complete, and things to collect. Seems to be an endless amount of things for the player to uncover and it's different and very fun.

Combat is engaging and while simple enough at first glance it shows it's true colors the further in you get with link strikes, blind side moves, abilitets from party members and different weapons.

The only thing that really stands out as bad in my opinion is the story as it's not very interesting or fun. To fully understand and appreciate what's going on you also have to watch the "Kingsglaive" movie which is stupid in and out of itself because it should have just been part of the game.

The game play is what matters most in a game for me though and it's incredibly fun.

It's certainly original, and ground breaking. The graphics are smooth, immersive and even overwhelming at times. The world is vast and plentiful. The story has major highs, but also a lot of pitiful lows. And the characters are overflowing with personality and, well...character.

Unfortunately, the combat is a bit of a flustercuck (to be polite). It works, it's fun, it's simple yet expansive. But it has a lot of issues (usually with larger enemies, certain small/tight terrains and dungeons, and the camera angling is atrocious at times). And the story, as great as it could be (and after basically theorizing what the hell happened with the rest of the community) did have some impressive twists, turns. Hell, they were emotional.

The major downside is that there's evidently huge chunks of this game just missing, and the story is short. The MCs are all the place in their chemistry and goals, as well as the fact the main Antagonist(s) aren't either shown, or their intentions or backstory fully explained. Well, to be truthful... their's just little to no air time for the important things that matter. The story evidently seemed an after thought, but the open world experience and it's major details are spot on.

All-in-all this game is phenomenal, but it's let down by poor narrative structure. And time-wasting mechanics. There's fast travelling, but it's limited. So far after near 60hrs of gameplay, more than half of that has been in travelling time and other 'mechanics' that impede your pace of playing, forcing you to play at this game's pace. (There's an infamous section of the game SE themselves are going to address because it got so much hate over how pitiful and pointless it was, as well as the end-game portion).

The 7/10 is the best I can give it, and that's being generous. For how grand it is at one end of the scale, it's let down by major issues at the opposite end. Hopefully SE rectify this, or atleast learn from this. But the story is short, sorta sweet... but extremely confusing because, hey!, there are entire portions missing.

*EDIT* I've replayed this game recently. And I was disappointed. My opinion didn't improve, and it seems that without the hype keeping my love for the franchise alive... and already having prior experience with the flaws of this game. They were more evident. Unsure if the trauma was too fresh for me to play this game again so soon. But my non-existent love, though I did give it "reasonable" praise prior, was still not there for this game. Honestly, FFXV is a stain on this franchise.

I have also replayed FFIII, IX and X recently and the nostalgia glasses weren't dirty enough for my views of these games to be jaded. I'm starting believe that outside certain FF titles, in the main series atleast, not all are amazing and that the name itself isn't as prestigious as I original thought it to be. I seemed to have left on a tangent there, but my point is that... this is Final Fantasy. And I've been, like many others, holding it to a certain regard. A high regard. Higher then what I expect of the main stream AAA franchises, or titles, that with all that man-power, time and money should be on an appropriate standard. That FF, sometimes, doesn't hit that aforementioned standard. Nevermind the standard I falsely hold in my mind. And FFXV is another game in the series that doesn't hit that standard, off AAA games in general.

Sure, I praised it for various achievements. Even stating it was ground breaking. But looking back... it wasn't *THAT* good, nor groundbreaking. And it hurts me to say that because I am a delusional fanboy of SE... or I was. Until their recent run of bad games (even developed by, or published by SE). I know WoFF and Nier:Automata were some amazing titles they brought to us. But FFXV should be on a pedestal higher and it isn't, it's unfinished. Plain and simple. A rushed, incomplete mess that I've been critical of many other titles for, and even verbally punished. And FFXV deserves no less.

It's not exactly a bad game, it's also not exactly good either. But it does have some strong areas, things I would love to see in future FF games - or other games in general - the open world aspect, a stunningly beautiful world that wasn't just immersive it FELT immersive. Grand monsters, and an improvement on the battle mechanics in some way or another. Honestly, I appreciate the 'hack and slash' gameplay that was intuitive due to the fact it was responsive, it automated chains depending on limited inputs... and no button spamming was necessary. This is revolutionary and should be a must in future beat'em ups and hack and slash games. It saves on needless stress, so you can game longer, and preserves the life of your controller as well as makes for smoother gameplay. So maybe it was intuitive afterall. But still only 6/10.

(Waiting Mode).

Its a decent little Advent Story style movie, fit with Action and a small lead up to the world, so you can understand what kind of world your living in.

The game's graphic are well done, and the soundtrack isn't the level of previous final fantasy's but I think nostalgia is to blame for that one. The open world is a nice touch, and the car for the life of me, I can't understand why people are dogging on it. when final fantasy has had everything from robots, airships, motorcycles, cars and beasts to ride on since its birth.

The Sphere grid I'm a little mixed on. always have been since 10 but, its not terrible.

The Magic system is what it is, because of the world your in. Yes Final fantasy has traditionally been about dungeons and dragons quality wizards an sorcery but this is a timeline where the King controls most of the Magic and is part of the entire reason it exists for those in the world. Magic is scarce and set to only the chosen and those, the chosen share to.

Combat system is fairly well done, with the exception of holding the button down to win.. This should have been fixed with perhaps a difficulty setting where new comers that want to just see story and not worry about combat perchance get to speed through it like other games. (Kingdom hearts has an easy mode as well) All in all the pace is well done, and the action reminds me of Dirge of Cerberus more so then anything else.

No female characters? That's fine, sure this is a bromance game of Noctis and his 3 Guardians, but hating on it because it lacks a strong female protagonist is silly.

Storyline could have been more fleshed out and the world could have had more to do in it, but all in all its about what would be expected from a video game of today's standards.

I'm going to clarify something that most fans seem to miss.. Your not fan of the final fantasy series, your a fan of Hironobu Sakaguchi who hasn't made a final fantasy since X. Which would explain why 12, 13 and 15 are so mediocre compared to the rest. Your not dealing with the Mastermind who created Final Fantasy, but his successor that tried to salvage the name.

As a final fantasy? Its lacking, but the name died over 10 years ago so that is a moot point. As a Video game, its rather entertaining, and I have no golden pedestal to put it on because the name is a misnomer for a Title long expired.

All in All I would rate this higher then the last trashy titles I've played in the last 5 years. I can't name but a few RPG titles that even peaked my interest including the Tales Series (Last game being terrible) and the Trails of Cold Steel/In the Sky Series.

Take the game for what it is, and don't put labels on it that it doesn't deserve or rate it from a standpoint that is fallible.

Come on square) and a lack of supporting character progression/story being fleshed out on screen this game delivers in every respect. Graphics are a 10, battle system for once did not leave me pining for the turn based systems of old and the gameplay is super addictive. + Very good graphics and textures, especially on some monsters/bosses.
    + Very pretty environments
    + Amazing battle system
+ Nice way to implement magic inside battles, i never liked to play with mages, but using fire with combos is awesome.
+ A lot to do, quests, sidequest, a lot o places to explore and lore to acquire about the game
+ The combo history, Kingslave and brotherhood is a nice combination.
+ Fishing is cool and a nice passtime
+ Using chocobo is cool too, you can stop and battle anytime.

    Cons

    - The story needs a little more explanation, they are adding stuff with future patches, so it is great
    - The dlc selling is not fair, but this is the new era of gaming , every company does that.
    - Maybe a little more combos? and turn off AUTO ATTACK, it makes the game not being able to combo in a right way.
    - Add a hard difficult mode

If you sleep at these points,
Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto can give you SPECIAL tagalong quests that involve just YOU and THAT CHARACTER (two people)

Someone mentioned not being able to summon, your summons. Thats bull, again, you pull back from the enemies without hitting any other button and hold L2 for around 5 to 10 seconds without pushing any other buttons.

People say their is not enough equipment.
HAHAHAHAHAH is that a joke? Noctis himself has over 10 different (UNIQUE TO HIM) WEAPON equipments.
This is not counting the numerous mechanical items that you can find throughout the game,
or the numerous weapons that can be equipped by yourself and your party members. There is atleast 30 of each type of weapon . not including mechanical weapons and weapons unique to Noctis.

People say their is not enough accessories,
Yet you can even activate 2nd and 3rd slot accessories and by level 30 I had over 20 of them.

The gameplay is very fun. creating combos and using teamwork .

The story is awesome. Progresses very well with both the quests and side quests.

At no point in this game did i ever feel "bored" .

I am over 40 hours in, and i am nowhere near beating the game.

Many people seemed to have rushed this game for no reason.

    Lastly,

People are addressing camera angle issues during combat, especially.
This can be fixed from the settings menu in which you can choose how fast the camera follows you or how far away or what angle it is at.

Almost everything people have complained about on here is totally nonsensical.

HOWEVER the bond between the 4 main characters is the best I have ever had. The natural story between them is maybe the best of any game I have played. This game consists of 15 chapters and can be completed in less than 25 hours if you choose to stick to just the story…
But there’s so much to do that this probably won’t be likely…
The greatest part about final fantasy xv is that it doesn’t force you to play a certain way…
You have the option to explore the world, do side quests, grind for xp and ap for your skill tree to balance out your party and skills…, or go on epic hunts for dangerous monsters in return for in game currency to spend on items and gear…
Or you can just stick to the story... it’s up to you…
Final Fantasy XV to me felt like a very compact version of the witcher 3…
You’re free to explore the different open worlds you visit…
However the world feels a bit empty…
Of course there’s enemies around… but there’s this ghost town feeling everywhere you go whether it’s a town or the forest that stops the open world from ever coming to life..
And it could do with how restrictive exploration feels…
The car for example stays on track... you can’t drive it off road and you don’t even need to steer it…
And when you’re on foot you can feel invisible walls all around you stopping you from jumping onto or over items in the game, which does greatly break immersion even though it’s the games way of telling me not to go that way, there’s nothing there.. I still want to do it...
    I appreciate the open world… but it doesn’t breathe…
There is a ton of life in the story though…
It took me some time to love these characters… but I ultimately did…
I cared for nearly everyone I came across and this game did get some tears out of me..
There’s so many twists and turns here that shifts your perspective of characters…
Some will become more important than you thought or less important...
There were very few moments I predicted…
And the campaign has a great deal of epic moments and boss battles…
I’m not the biggest fan of this game combat though…
Don’t get me wrong.. I love the change from turn based to real time…
But the weapons you pick up don’t feel unique...
    They don’t feel powerful…
And the controls just aren’t intuitive enough to allow ultimate flow…
It feels button mashy and enemies take way too long to kill for that button mashy feel to work…
    You dodge, block, and parry…
But it’s so hard to read enemies and you’re so focused on doing damage that by time you go to block it’s too late..
    Combat isn’t frustrating though...
Your party can heal you and you can heal them when you or they are in danger... they’ll also heel each other…
There were many times one of my party members were in danger though and I couldn’t find them to heal them…
They didn’t show up on my map, and I there’s no name over their head or any indication at all where to go to save them which ultimately led them to fall during battle which definitely is frustrating…
And my ultimate frustration comes down to button commands not being responsive enough…
You have to hold square to take cover, hold x to dismount a chocobo, hold l2 to summon a champion… hold l1 and r1 to essentially go super saiyan for a short period of time…
There wasn’t a single hold whatever button command that would work on my first attempt…
I’m trying to summon.. I’m trying to crouch to regain my health... I’m trying to get off of a chocobo... and it just wouldn’t work…
this is less annoying in the open world… but insanely annoying during combat…
This 100% needs to be patched…
These commands should be way more responsive and sensitive than they are…
Final Fantasy XV isn’t a masterpiece..
    But its close…
The gameplay can get frustrating due to design choices and mechanical issues...
But this is overall a great experience for fans and new players alike…
It’s not too deep, and not too shallow…
There’s a lot to do, and it’s all equally enjoyable.. I give Final Fantasy XV an 8.5/10

The story may fumble here or there but it is still in typical FF fashion and if you're a series fan you will almost assuredly love it.

The Bad: Driving, while tolerable, still feels very on railsy and the majority of the time I just let Ignis take the wheel. Magic in comparison to earlier games in the series is a bit of a let down. That is not to say that it is not useful but it just is not that to fun to use.

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
