To go through the game you have to go through the whole open area world a tons of times, what becomes very boring with the time and same with farming. ... Expand

Incredible music, gorgeous world, epic combat and engaging story. FFXV really nailed it especially in the mind blowing attention to detail.

It is amusing to see how many people came into FF expecting the same volume of story we have seen in other FF's. Issue is EVERY single FF has been linear. Linearity affords 40 straight hours of condensed story and laughably the people who cry about

FFXV's charm is in the journey and exploration, that was its aim and it did that in a truly masterful way. Will go down as a phenominal title in the series!

I found myself lost exploring the beautiful open world taking on dozens of side quests for hours without touching the story. Much like the tie in film kingsglaive I found the story very rushed, poorly written and hard to follow for the most part. But the gameplay itself makes up for those shortcomings. The combat is a joy, being fairly easy to learn but hard to master. I also very much enjoyed the modern designs of classic series creatures and the modernized high fantasy world. A little disappointing is the lack of Nobou Umatses score writing, making the soundtrack a bit forgettable. This game actually renewed my interest in the series which I never would have expected. I really don't understand the bad critics on this game. I played with all FF games since the first one. I hated the 12 and the 13. But this one is a masterpiece. My top 5 would be:

    2- FF15
    3- FF6
    4- FF9
    5- FF10

Clocking 36 hours so far, I've completed a handful of side quests, and the entire main story of this game. As of now, my conclusion is that Final Fantasy XV is a fantastic addition to any RPG fan's collection. As of now, my conclusion is that Final Fantasy XV is a fantastic addition to any RPG fan's collection. I give this game an 8.6/10, so obviously, I definitely found a number of faults in the game as well; but overall, it's a fantastic Final Fantasy adventure set in a beautiful Final Fantasy world that I'm going to enjoy spending another dozen or more hours exploring.

    The Good:
-The characters have fantastic chemistry, and listening to the side banter as you undertake quests or move from quest location to quest location was great. Doing side quests also nets you some additional dialogue scenes that sometimes gives you even more insight into your entourage's personalities, and I felt like the "bond" I forged with my team was really from all the side questing I did.
-The battle system. There are some negative aspects to it too that I'll list later, but overall, it was entertaining enough, and gets fairly challenging for some of the side quests or random overtuned bosses you find as you explore the map. Main story battles are never "that hard" really. But I don't ever think I've ever encountered a truly "difficult" storyline battle in any other FF either (between I to XIII-2), so that's fine.
-The "open world"-ness of this game was perfect, in my opinion. The last thing I wanted was a Witcher/Falllout/ES clone with a Final Fantasy facelift, and I think XV handled the balance perfectly. Sure, there aren't AS MANY things to do in this world as you would find in, say, Skyrim or Oblivion, nor do the side missions have the same amount of depth as in Witcher 3. But what I really wanted out of this game as a franchise with JRPG roots was really one main storyline, and then supplemental quests on the side to help fill out the experience with more fun things to do that don't have to become entirely new storylines on their own, unlike how the several branching/diverging side storylines are for the side quests in Bethesda titles. So something reminiscent of hunts in FFXII, or catching monsters in FFX for the arena, or finding random things on the map like Chocographs. And that *flavor* of side quest is exactly what we got here for the most part.
-The story; overall, I liked it. It gave a good sense of grandeur that didn't seem overblown or overly cliche. Again, some negatives here that I'll expound upon below, but I honestly don't understand how some folks are saying they didn't "get it" without Kingsglaive or Brotherhood. I haven't seen either, and I feel like I 100% understand the story, and was 100% happy with how the game resolved the primary issue.
    -The graphics are AMAZING
    -The soundtrack is AMAZING

    The Bad:
-The battle system seemed disorganized at times. Like many have said, for simpler fights, it does deteriorate into button mashing (for some of the side quest fights, there does seem to be more structure though; opponents telegraphing moves for you to avoid, telegraphing openings to get a good combo in etc). But I was hoping they'd take some inspiration from the Kingdom Hearts series in designing the battle system, which they didn't really. Also, I rarely ever found myself using magic in the 36 hours I've played so far, which was a little disappointing.
-Like I said above, the story was good, content-wise. But it DID feel quite rushed in the last 5 chapters or so. All of a sudden, the game decides to hit you with 2-3 big plot points with extremely brief dialogue scenes, that make sense, but you just don't have time to take it all in and appreciate what just happened because it all happened so quickly. I think this problem would have been resolved had the game been designed to have maybe 10-15 more hours of storyline, as opposed to the ~20 hours of story it actually has.
-The cast: the characters we got, like I said above, were great together. But I really miss the old FF style of having a larger cast of characters that you slowly meet throughout your adventure, and I was extremely disappointed that they went with such a small cast.
-Minor possible issue: a large chunk of the side quests are "hunt" based. For some gamers, this may feel "grindy" or repetitive, which is understandable. I myself enjoyed the hunts though, as I like feeling like I'm getting sent out to kill huge things in the wilds. I haven't finished them all though, but already I've seen a few throwbacks to old FF's, which was great

So overall, I thought this game was absolutely a joy to play so far, and has a new "feel" to it that isn't quite "like the old school FF's", but rather a feel that can be described as being "uniquely Final Fantasy XV". My favorite part of this game has got to be immersing myself on the "road trip" with the main characters, and getting to know them throughout the story and side q's. I am absolutely looking forward to what kind of new experiences Square Enix brings out in the future!

At first the sheer scale of the game had taken my breath away, and with out any major development I became quickly attached to the characters. The battle system took me some getting use to at first. I wanted to treat it like a hack and slash style game, and not the Diablo esq hold down the button game it is. I am saddened that magic doesn't play as big of a role in this game, but the combat system is fun and makes up for the lack of magic. I hope to see magic get a better role in XVI. The story presentation is well done IMO, and allows you to take breaks when you see fit like older FF games. My only complaint so far is that trying to venture out into the world at night when your still in early game is a near death sentence because most of the monsters will vastly outclass you. Overall I'm extremely happy with XV so far. It has given me hope for future titles of the Final Fantasy series. This game wont be making my top 3 quite yet, but it has managed to push X out of my 5 slot. Expand

A fantastic game worthy of the Final Fantasy Franchise. This game met my expectations and more. As a long time fan of the franchise dating back to the release of FF1 on the NES, This game has not disappointed. Now I am not saying there are no issues, but I am saying the issue in this game do not interfere with the greatness of FFXV.

I would by no means hold this game up next to FFVI.

I would by no means hold this game up next to FFVI. FFVII, FFVIII, or FFVIX which are all 10's and the best of the series in my opinion. I would however say it's as good as FFX as far a story, world, and characters, and I give that game a solid 9-9.5, and as far as game play I'd rate it in the same spectrum as FFXII which I would rate with an 8-8.5.

So like 10 the story is and world is amazing, I find myself getting lost in it for hours while enjoying every moment. On the other hand like 12 there are definitely issues with combat and side questing becomes redundant, but the rest of the game shines through the issues.

All that said I feel this game deserves a solid 9, as a long time fan of the series I not disappointed at all.

Don't let the 10 years of development hell scare you: this game is amazing! Although the narrative gets a bit weird and the camera might get bumpy in narrow spaces, the characters are charismatic enough to overcome this and so is the finely tuned gameplay. Final Fantasy XV is an amazing experience, one that kept me come back for more. It is worth every year of delay.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. TL:DR All of the bad things people are saying about the game are true, some of us are just weighting things differently; I am going to give it a 7.

I played the game for 60 hours and enjoyed my time and may have even shed a tear or two at the end; that being said, there are some absolutely weird things in this game.

Plot/Story: I kept waiting and waiting for plot holes to get solved but more and more just opened up. Literally nothing important happened in my game for the first 45 hours (through chapter 8 or so?), and then 10 hours later the whole game was over. I even watched Kingsglaive to make sure I knew the backstory. I mean, an evil empire is on the warpath for 150 years... and then a month after they capture their biggest target, the entire empire just dissolves and is a footnote in the story? Cor tells us we need to gather all of the old kings weapons because we need their power but then you never hear about that again. Multiple characters go back and forth between evil and friendly without much explanation (Aranea... Ravus?...) Prompto has the big revelation about being born a magitek soldier, and they basically say "Ok fine" and move on. They try to force some love subplot with Iris (which they keep pronounce e-ris instead of eye-ris), but then you just never see her again. Yet, with all of these major story plot holes... the game takes the time to have Ignis wake my character up so I can help him stir soup in the morning after camping. Huh???

I tried to do the basic side quests it kept giving me but then I ended up 30 levels higher than suggested for the climactic battles.

I played the game on Active combat mode which was fine, but the targeting was off most of the time, especially if you could attack multiple points on a mob. I never figured out how to consistently target a mob's weak point. Having to stop what you're doing to craft a spell and then equip it like a piece of gear is clunky, there is no way around that.

The summon animation is cool, but you hardly ever use the summons. I might have had 5 summons the entire game? And that is with a couple that happen right at the end.

I fished a bunch, I guess that was fine. The Coleman camping gear ads every time I had a fishing cutscene with the npc were cringeworthy.

My wife watched Kingsglaive with me and then the start of the game with me, she made it not 5 minutes before you meet the scantily-clad gas-station hooker whose chest is so large she is falling out of her shirt. I had built up the game to my wife on how they had spent 10 years crafting this amazing universe and then when that happened I had no defense. It is embarrassing. Aranea too. Just unnecessary. I expect that sort of thing in a campy game like Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball... not in Final Fantasy.

I guess they knew the music was bad and that you would be riding in cars and/or walking around for LONG periods of time, so they let you buy better music from their past games and listen to that instead. I probably spent 5+ hours either riding from one place to another in the car or walking through empty fields trying to do the fetch quests/'hunts'

Obviously the game has a lot of issues, but at the end of the day, I had an enjoyable experience. Even if the combat targeting didn't work great, I got to where I enjoyed the combat teleporting around and calling for Gladio to hit some Downhammers when we had the tech points for it. Many parts of the game look pretty good, I enjoyed the scenery. The photo taking aspect of it was nice, and I liked how they worked that into the story at the ending etc.

I was rating this game an 8 when I started this review, but now that I've typed all that out, I've decided to go with a 7. I will not be playing any DLCs, I assume they are stuff that should have been in the main game to flesh the story out but the devs wanted to make some extra money so they left them out of the primary game.

I'm giving this game a 10 for one reason: Because I believe you can rate a game based on the way it makes you feel before, during and after playing it. The same way The Last Guardian was imperfect technically speaking but was flawless in the way it made you feel, Final Fantasy XV may have some flaws but works masterfully with the way the player feels during the story. And I'm not saying itI'm giving this game a 10 for one reason: Because I believe you can rate a game based on the way it makes you feel before, during and after playing it. The same way The Last Guardian was imperfect technically speaking but was flawless in the way it made you feel, Final Fantasy XV may have some flaws but works masterfully with the way the player feels during the story. And I'm not saying it makes you overly emotional or uses cheap tricks to make you cry; this game makes you feel exactly what the developers wanted you to feel each step of the way. I was halfway through the game when I realised I had felt excitement, happiness, curiosity, impatience, anger, loneliness, frustration, insecurity, confusion, heartbreak and many more emotions I could barely identify, all in one game. And let me tell you something, you will not find many games capable of making you truly FEEL the whole time, even if it's just feeling at peace.

Another point many people criticize is the story. Well, I don't think it is simple, or bland, or unfinished. I think it was presented in such a subtle way that you needed to actually pay attention to details in order to understand it and put the pieces together. Everything has a reason, even those little secondary missions people won't stop complaining about. They are there simply to make you bond with your friends, to have an opportunity to show their personalities, to make you feel accompanied. And by the point where you decide you keep going with the story, you have already formed a bond, you feel better just by knowing those three characters are there by your side.

I could use the 5000 characters to explain why I still think about FFXV days after finishing it, but I think it's better if you just give it a chance and try it for yourself.

+ but - I personally dig the writing but the lack of dialogue sometimes **** the “roadtrip” feeling
+ but - Boss battles are epic but some are a mess (still a memorable mess)

    - The plot doesn't explains itself that good at the end
    - You have to watch “Brotherhood” to connect to the characters and “Kingsglaive” to get what’s happening because like I just said, the plot isn’t that self-explanatory
    - Parts of the story were left out for future DLCs
    - The regalia mechanics are very limited (in the “Regalia type-F” too) and are the reason I have seen the “Game Over” screen.
    - Sometimes in combat the camera **** up

In conclusion, this new Final Fantasy formula works, this is a must-buy for fans and newcomers. The story has it's problems but still a memorable entry in the saga

It's easy to use, adjustable and comfortable both for those who knows the game and those who has just started. On the one hand is pretty exciting having Multiplayer in future, it'd be a great experience, if they make something worth it.
Unfortunately we also got bad news, some missions are way too repetitive, so that means you gotta run long distances to get to your mission checkpoint and tends to get exhaustive sometimes but is an open world game, where you can enjoy full detailed landscapes, random battles and funny comments from the characters. We can't let these small details ruin us the game. We know it has been a long wait and we expected more but let's give a chance, I'm pretty sure you will enjoy it.

I don't think this game is amazing, but it's very good. I'm enjoying it more than Final Fantasy 13. The combat system is very different compared to the previous FF games. The world in this game is huge, because I've seen the map size and its pretty damn big. As for the story, if you guys haven't seen Kingsglaive and also the anime series of FF XV. I suggest watching those first before playing, just to get a better sense of the story. Right now, I'm still exploring the game so I might change the score in the future. Expand

But its mostly fast action.

The world, characters, some quests, most story missions, about half the music and especially the COMBAT is fantastic!!!! The better you get the more stylish you can be and can get better at controlling the camera smh lol but its not that bad maybe 20 percent of the time it will get wonky on tall skinny enemies. The story is meh, I geuss you have to watch kingslaive but the voice acting is really good most often and ive never really heard anybody say something cheezy, which is good for newcomers. Well prompto might but his crew calls him out on it lol this game is really an 8.5+ for sure!!!

Only drawback is imo very slight camera issues, frame stutter slightly in altissia city on ps4, some areas are a little empty, only some. Other areas have monsters spawning often but where one dungeon was huge and not many enemies or structures, (I think i went there early before a side quest boss was ready) but other dungeons are awesome!!

BTW!!!! Most of the fun isnt necessarily from the story but alternate paths, taking your time exploring and the side quests that have some of the best bosses. Well, besides the 2nd half of the game has some over the top fights! Really fun! And im on ch. 12 and 55 hours in. This is a legit opinion fellas. I gave 10 to bump it up to my 8.5+

The bad guy, and none of the other characters were built-up, they came and left too early so they become strong. I mean all the FF games had some pretty strong characters... I have very mixed feeling about it. Bottom line: this is a good game and you should play it, but don't expect FF style deep story.

I would also mention that toward the end the cutscenes and other events tent to be short and they feel like being cut-down. Some scenes made no sense and were poorly made.

Anyway, FF 15 feels to me like a much more streamlined RPG with what feels like more of a western RPG than a JRPG. You are set in a gigantic open world (I would argue that it is almost as big as The Witcher 3) with 3 bros' and a really nice car. From what I understand FF was always turn based combat whereas 15 is not. I'm not going to say the combat is perfect but it is almost there. The camera can get real frustrating, and if you play I would suggest using the far camera setting when out in the open and middles when indoors, and turning wait mode on. Wait mode pretty much pauses the game when Noctis (your character) stops moving. It gives you more opportunity to plan and execute more. Those things together make combat a lot more fun imo.. This might sound stupid but the combat feels a lot like the Arkham games. Where you are holding down circle to attack and sometimes hitting square when prompted to block (on ps4 anyway). It just isn't quite as polished as the arkham games but it works just fine. Being a newcomer to the series I know **** about what is actually going on in the story so I would assume if you haven't played any, or at least in a while you wont either. But that is ok. The gameplay was enough to keep me hooked. I really like the friends you travel with. Ignus, Gladiolus, and Prompto are your travel companions through most of the game and I gotta say it was a lot of fun having them around. The banter was sometimes actually funny and it was cool seeing them bonding. It gave me a family vibe that was really interesting and fun to witness. I am not super sure what long time fans think but I am having a blast playing and I can't wait to start a new game. I really think those of you that are like me and haven't played any FF or at least haven't played FF in a long time, I highly suggest you try it even if you don't like JRPGs but love western rpgs. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Final Fantasy XV is a good game, but nothing nearing 10 years in development good.

You can tell when Tetsuya Nomura left the project and the design team went into "hurry up and finish" mode. I couldn't shake the feeling that the game was somehow unfinished. As if they didn't really start working on it till like 3 or 4 years ago and they realized they had to hurry and pump something out because they announced it 10 years ago. The second half of the game is horrible and seemed rushed. You'll hear people complain about how linear it was but that wasn't the final straw for me. It was boring. Especially the section that basically turned the game into a survival-horror reminiscent of Galerians. This is also one of the longest segments of the game and plays a heavy hand in diminishing the vibe the first half of the game goes out of its way to establish. A lot of Final Fantasy games do the two worlds thing but usually the transition doesn't feel this jarring.

This game definitely feels inspired by Kingdom Hearts and Advent Children (especially in the aerial fight scenes) so that may be a make-or-break deal for some people. For me it was unimpressive since I don't consider either of those things very Final Fantasy-ish.

It's better than XIII and for most people (not me) better than XII but it won't touch golden era Final Fantasy games like 6 through 10.

    + Unexpected plot twists
    + Beautiful world
+ Combat system (this one is really sick)
    + Memorable characters
+ This game will overwhelm you with emotions.
+ Sectets. This game is full of secret dungeons and cool items, which you can't find if you will not explore the world
    + Very cool bossfights
    + AMAZING soundtracks
    + Interesting weapons
    + Great skill tree system
    (+ Chocobos)

    CONS:
    - Nasty bugs: visual bugs with water, shadows: sometimes combat bugs are happening, for example when weapon literally slides monster's face and u are missing (misses are not a game mechanic in this game)
    - This game doesn't looks like it was in development for 10 years (but the game still great)
    - Side quests are pretty boring (as for me)
    - Surviving in combat is all about healing potions if you're not doing side quests a lot
    - TOO MUCH HEALING POTIONS, really, EVERY hard fight will require 5+ healing potions with a not bad perfomance
    - Exploring the world is kinda boring (as for me).
    - Bossfights are looking strange sometimes due to some combat bugs (but they still looks great)
    - Noctis is too naive sometimes
    - Ridiculous auto-save system (u may fight a boss/clear a dungeon for 30-40 minutes, and when you'll die, you'll have to do it again (sometimes you will need to ride there again))
    - Bosses are sometimes easier then ordinary monsters. This looks kinda weird: chosen one Noctis can fight powerful level 40 big badass dragon, but he can't fight usual level 35 little demon, which is not a boss at all

    SEMI-CONS/PROS:
+- This game is in fact "divided" in two parts:
    1) First part of the game is all about killing monsters and farming money, resourses, leveling (feels like you're playing in single-player typical MMORPG with a really badass combat system).
    2) Second part of the game (when you will complete game in a ~70%) this game transforms from "singleplayer MMORPG" to RPG game with a great overall plot and gameplay.

In conclusion I have to say the only one thing: despite the fact that this game has such a cons, this game still 100% worth your money. FFXV will make you happy, sad, sometimes angry, sometimes it will be "jaws dropping", but overall impressions after you complete the game will be more than good.
Even after such a bugs and cons I can boldly give a 10 rating for this game just because of pros.

WARNING: Before playing the game you're really MUST SEE "Final Fantasy: Kingsglaive" (a 2-hour CGI movie about plot's beginning), and it will be really good if you will watch anime called "Final Fantasy: Brotherhood", which explains every character's childhood.

I was a bit worried as I thought that Noctis was going to be a selfish brat, Prompto was going to be an annoying one-liner, Ignis was going to be a pompous self-centered jerk, and that Gladio was going to be a meathead, but boy was I wrong. I should have known they were going to be amazing considering that Tetsuya Nomura (from Kingdom Hearts) was going to be working on character design, but I was still worried. As I said, I was dead wrong, the characters are amazing with a different personality to each of them and they just all meld together perfectly. I actually care about the characters, and they're some of the most memorable characters I've ever experienced in any game. You can feel the brotherhood and bond that they share, whether through their actions or their dialogue. The dialogue is amazing and natural, it never felt stale or pushed. When running around the world, I feel like I'm actually talking to a friend in real life. Another thing that helps with this is the stellar voice acting. Final Fantasy games are not the most well known for their voice acting (example: Titus laugh in Final Fantasy X), but the voice acting in this game is amazing. When I looked at the IMDB page for this game, I didn't know any of the voice actors, but they surprised me as they just feel so real. Their emotions are greatly conveyed through the tone in their voice and I hope that these people pop up more often in the games industry as I love them in this game. Speaking of audio, the soundtrack is fantastic. I mean, I was expecting it to be fantastic, but it really is. Every song I loved and every song I found memorable. Another great thing is that you can listen to the soundtracks for all of the past Final Fantasy games in the car or out in the world (once you've acquired the MP3 player). The presentation is amazing as the world is beautiful and full of different environments. How they managed to make the game look so beautiful but keep a pretty solid 30fps is beyond me, but if this is the engine that they're using for FFVII Remastered, then I have high hopes for that game as this runs amazing (keep in mind I'm using the base PS4). That's also while running the individual physics on the character's hair and clothes, on the flora and fauna, so it really is impressive. Texture pop-in is very minimal which is great since it keeps you into the game and immersed. Now, that doesn't mean there isn't pop-in or weird looking textures, after all, this is an open-world game. There's bound to be bugs and glitches, but for the most part I haven't encountered many that are to make note of. The open-world is vast and has many things to do. Now, the game does get more linear towards the end, but it makes sense as it has to wrap up the storyline. Some sidequests may get repetitive at times, but for the most part they're different in their own right. You get to meet some very interesting and fun characters which is also a plus. There's missions where you take pictures, missions where you hunt down beasts, or missions where you find ores to bring back to a specific person. Each character also has specific skills. Noctis likes fishing, Ignis likes cooking, Prompto likes taking pictures, and Gladio's is survival (leveled up by just walking around). The story is great, and I'm not going to spoil it for you, but it is a very good story. Now last, but certainly not least, the new combat system. The new combat system is refined, ditching the turn based combat and going for a more real-time combat. People will have their opinions about it, but I absolutely love it and if you're a fan of the combat in Kingdom Hearts, it's a lot like that. If you want a more turned bast strategy feel, you can turn on wait mode which when you aren't moving, the game will pause and allow you to plan your attacks. Overall, this game is amazing. Everything it does, it does right. It took a lot of chances that ended up paying off in the end, and I absolutely adore this game. The story can get a bit iffy at times, but for the most part is solid, especially if you decide to watch the movie and the anime, though if you don't do that you should still be fine. The polish of the game is also amazing as well as everything feels solid. I'm gonna stop now as I need to get back to playing. Expand

A Final Fantasy for fans and first timers . And Square Enix mostly delivers on that promise . If you are a first timer I would recommend it . As for fans of the series , it's definitely worth your time ( unlike FF XIII ) .

The game was set in the world of 13 with a dark tone to it. It looked like a very interesting concept of a main Final Fantasy going hack and slash. Sadly enough though, the game was re-made into 15 which is still really good but with the many short comings from 15, it keeps it from becoming a great game. So does the game does its justice after a long 10 year development cycle or does it fall into the dark abyss where other highly-anticipated games fade throughout time?

Story- The story in 15 is decent enough and easy to understand. You play as Noctic, Prince and future ruler of Lucis as his father King Regis was killed in a peace treaty that turned into an assassination ambush. With the help of your friends Gladiolus, Prompto, and Ignis, Noctic will have to go around the game and become more powerful to take back the throne. The thing is, the games world isn't thoroughly explained as you're put right in the world with no exposition to really tell what the hell is going on unless you play through the story. The story is simple enough but what makes the story better is the relationship between the 4 main protagonist. The way each character has their own personalities and goals as you progress through the game. The problem though is that you get more of a personal affection with these characters and the world itself after watching the spin-off Brothers Final Fantasy 15 and Kingsglaive Final Fantasy 15 to better immerse yourself on the world of Eos. That shouldn't be a thing since a game should be able to help the player be more involved in the lore and characters.

Gameplay- The gameplay of 15 is different than most FF games in the series. It's a hack and slash that has the mix between Crisis Core and Type-0 . It's a very simplistic mechanic that is very fun to play with as Noctis has over several different uses for weapons. The problem with the gameplay is that everything else kinda sucks or an annoyance throughout the game. The driving feels very automated and you are constraint on the road like a safe-drivers ed teacher. You can't really crash unless taking turns on roads. The side-quest can be very bland at times as most of them is fetch quest but most of them also involves with giant or tough daemons to deal with, so it's not a bore to play through. The open world is a new refreshing idea as Lucis is pretty big enough to explore around. There are several different dungeons that are fun at times but some are just broken and tedious to go through. The use of different weapons is exhilarating as it gives a brand mix of something you get from Devil May Cry; very varied in its combat. The one thing they changed is the leveling up system isn't the same as other FF games. Throughout the game, your characters gain experience but you can only deposit them when you're resting. While you're resting, you can actually have buffs for eating different foods either by Ignis or a vendor. Other mechanics like you can only go one direction when either climbing up and down, X/A being the Jump button with it also being the confirming button, Amiger trigger buttons are glitched sometimes and not always responsive, Blocking doesn't always work, Broken boss battles like the Nalfgar, and the stupid requirements to do summons. Summons only come when they feel like it. It's stupid.

Graphics and Sound- The world of Eos is beautiful and the main difference about most FF games is that 15 is takes the real world and puts recreates a bit of it into the living world of 15. Creatures look fantastic, MAIN character models look amazing, particle affects to lighting is superb, and it's stable enough to play through. The music is freaking fantastic as each battle music fits right in and the use of the southern bell feel as Noctis and his friends road trip together around Lucis is appropriate. The music has such an amazing orchestra beat to it that each battle feels epic and uplifting as things are about to go down. I love the fact that they are able to keep Versus13 soundtrack in the game. The only main draw is the the draw distance sucks in this game, making pop-ins blandly coming out but that's only if you in huge grass fields.

With it's many faults, FFXV is still a good game to play for new comers and old final fantasy fans who accepts new change. I had a blast playing through the 96 hours and now I feel empty inside because I still want more from 15. There are gonna be updates that improve game mechanics and adding new features so I can't wait for those. It is a buy for new comers and FF fans( The ones that want something different rather than the turn-based gameplay).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the best game I've ever played.. but I still expected a lot more! (MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD)
I class myself as a Final Fantasy fan having played over ten titles. Loved VII, VIII, and X. Struggled out of boredom to finish XII and then didn't even bother with XIII.

Since the first FFXV trailer in 2006 I've been eagerly anticipating the release of this title! I had pre ordered it on Amazon years in advance and on the day I received the copy I was ecstatic to say the least, even bought a new TV as the screen did not fit on my current one.

The game starts off great and gets even better. The characters are the best of any FF and have so much potential! I am a pro turn based gamer but I have to admit the actual gameplay is amazing with an engaging combat mechanism and countless extras you can do from racing your car in a high speed chase to shooting machine guns at robots. I actually loved the summoning mode (although initially confusing on how to trigger it), and appreciated how the archaeons would come in times of need in a tough battle giving you a sense of relief whilst struggling against a feared enemy rather than any tiny powered gimmick that you could call countless times in a minor battle against a little chicken fiend.
All of this awesomeness is varnished with an outstanding soundtrack to match (hats off to Shimomura-san).

A downside evident fairly on however is the lack of cutscenes. Final Fantasy is loved by many for its wonderful storytelling in its high quality scenes but this desperately lacked those moments. At first I thought it was as they had transferred all the early scenes to the Kingsglaive movie and that as you passed that point in the game, the story would pick up. It never did. The game was left with so many gaps in the story and events happening off screen it was hard to understand the plot let alone enjoy it. Despite ten years in making, after a certain point in the game it felt completely rushed and unfinished. Don't get me started on how annoying and tedious Chapter 13 was.

The brief story telling they did have was still completely inadequate. It seemed as though all the epicness of the XIII versus trailers had been totally lost. The one scene where Noctis meets Stella had more chemistry than the entire game with Luna. I felt so little for Luna that after her death I actually hoped they'd bring Stella into it and Noctis would forget all about his penfriend who he was told he should marry.
The character Noctis previously portrayed was a strong, confident prince now turned into an annoying spoilt brat. It would have worked if his character developed over time, but it hardly did.

Then came the ending, leaving me completely disappointed. With the ten year time jump, they had so much opportunity to give us some emotional heartfelt scenes. With the King returning ten years on after being thought dead (just like Simba). The moment his friends first see him alive and are completely stunned with joy. The moment he meets Iris, and Cid, and all his old friends. The moment he returns to the now refugee camp of Lestallum and his people heartily cheer his return with a newfound hope. None of that happened however and you were left with a complete anti-climax.
Then came Insomnia, the home I was so longing to explore and renovate back to its former glory. It however served nothing but a stage for the final boss.

Why can Square Enix not finish a game without killing off the hero? I get that tragedy works in bringing tears and all but not when they do it every single time. If you think about it, the whole game was a waste as Ardyn actually got what he wanted and Noctis lost everything. How ridiculous.
An epic scene towards the end would have been the first Versus XIII trailer ever. They could have left it as Noctis losing all his friends from Chapter 13 and then returning to Insomnia. Sitting on the throne in depression, thinking he had lost everything. Empire sending in all their troops after him and he comes outside and kills a few handfuls of them without any emotion and then returns to his throne as he did, now yielding the power of the ring (which for some reason had become a weak toy in the game compared to all its power in Kingsglaive when wielded by Nyx). That would have really pleased us with the trailer nostagia. Then continued with whatever story and ended with him restoring Lucia back to its days of former glory as a bad ass king. Allowing you to explore the open World once more in the present day.

Despite all these criticisms I still enjoyed the game. After clocking it I'm still finding loads of new stuff to do even though i had completed all the sidequests previously. I'm looking forward to the updates now. I know this would probably be very cliche and annoying but I actually want Square Enix to release another game via DLC suggesting Chapter 9 onwards was all just a bad dream and rehash the entire second part of the story to how it should have been!

Gonna be a long post here, but for anybody interested in FFXV, I suggest you take a few minutes to give it a read. I'm a life long fan of the franchise, and have a LOT to say about it. No worries here, because it will all be spoiler free as far as story goes.
It's been about 10 years since a game called Final Fantasy Versus XIII was shown. That game would later on become known as Final Fantasy XV. Many people were waiting a long time for this to come out obviously (especially since XII wasn't really all that good, and XIV is an MMO) people wanted another solid single player FF and to many XV was the answer. So does it hold up? Was it worth the wait? What does it have to offer? Let's dive right on in, and figure it out.
Graphics: The game is very pretty to look at which is no surprise, but it does feel like it has cut corners in certain departments. One of which is many of the NPC's look generic, and are constantly reused with different color schemes. The models just seem choppy, and even worthy of PS2 quality. Also a few of the enviroments are bland, and come off bland, empty, and open. Despite these minor discrepancies, the game looks great for the most part, and really shows off some magnificent art and detail. The main character models look good, and detailed. Some of the enemies really look savage, and threatening. Animations for most models look good, but again going back to the NPC's...many of them move about in an awkward fashion, and though this is a JRPG, the lipsync is still kind of goofy. Don't worry it's still better than X's lipsyncing.
Combat: This is the biggest change the game has to offer. It's not turn based, and you don't use any other characters, besides the main protagonist. It's pure action combat. Think of it playing similar to Kingdom Hearts. Luckily the combat is very responsive, and easy to get used to after a bit of practice. Learning to dodge, and use the correct weapons in the right situations is crucial for victory. You can also eat/camp to buff your characters up before a tough battle. Many weapons are available for use in FFXV, anywhere from guns to swords. Variety is definitely a welcome aspect, but again you will have to make sure you know what weapons work against certain enemies, or a fight can take much longer. Weapons are the strong suit in this game, but sadly I can't say the same for magic, which is another staple in the series. Magic is very limited in the game, and comes with a cooldown after use. Granted the magic is quite powerful if crafted correctly....but you wont be seeing many spells here. Mainly just fire, ice, and lightning (with a few exceptions much later in the game.) so don't go expecting to cast off ultimas, flares, meteors, etc. Total bummer. I do hope that they fix the magic system because it just seems so lackluster. Luckily the weapon combat is solid, and you may even be able to use a few summons on your adventure as well. There are also joint attacks (which take the place of limit breakers) and can prove to be quite useful in not only hurting the enemy, but also giving you a bit of breathing room. Each character has a few of these attacks to unlock, and they will be crucial to victory.
Leveling System/Ascension: EXP is present in this game, and of course plays a big role. There is also AP which allows you to upgrade your characters and various other aspects of the game. Your EXP stocks up and will not level you up unless you go to camping grounds or an inn. This is very important! Let me explain as to why that is. Let's say I have 20k EXP stocked up on my characters, and I decide to go to an inn so it will start to level my team up. Certain inns will yield an XP bonus. I have seen it range from 1.2k boost to 3.0 boost. Obviously inns that yield a bigger bonus will cost more to stay at. So if you want to level up significantly faster, then that would be your best bet. Now let's say I go to a camping ground to level up and rest up. Camping will not yield bonus XP, but instead offers you the option to buff your characters up with a meal. Some of these LIMITED buffs offer a huge bonus in HP, XP gain (for fights after you camp) and attack power. This is a good option to use if you are stuck at that boss that keeps giving you trouble, and you need an extra boosts in stats. However there are also diners all over the world that have a limited selection of meals to eat that will boost stats. These are also on a time limit, and you can only buff yourself up with one meal at a time. So don't go in thinking you're going to eat 3 things and get all the benefits from every meal. It will just replace the stats from your prior meal. IT DOES NOT STACK! Now that all that is out of the way let me go in depth with Ascension. AP is required to up your Ascension skills. Some of these include new moves, permanent EXP gain, and the ability to equip more accessories. It's a very simplistic system, and is clearly intended to not put too much pressure on new players to the series. I wont say anything else on it, because there just really isn't much else to say. It's kind of a weak system as far as customizing goes, however AP is shared between all characters so you can really go to town on it.
Exploration: The first half of the game has a lot to explore, while the second half of the game is much weaker, and linear. However it is very story driven, and attempts to finish telling the story. There are many things to find on the world map, such as loot, ingredients for cooking, ores for car customization, and a few weapons here and there. There are also hunts, and dungeons as well. Many of these are optional, but recommended. You can traverse the lands on foot, in your car, or my personal favorite: Chocobo! Also worth noting that your car is upgradeable so it will perform better, and your choco will level up, which in turn also improves his/her performance. The choco gains new skills/stats automatically. All you have to do is ride it, and in time it will level up. There is another method of transportation, but I'm sure any FF vet already knows what that involves. There are many areas and sidequests to explore, but I didn't find much loot in way of weapons/accessories. This kind of bummed me out because I like a vast number of weapons I can pick and choose from. This now brings me to my next category...
Weapons/Accessories: The main protagonist can use any weapon/magic in the game. The others are set only to use 2 types of weapons, and any magic in the game. Certain weapons obviously yield certain stats, and possibly some sort of elemental buff as well. Pretty standard, and again I feel they made it this way to go easy on the newer players. There are some upgradeable weapons, but it's very basic. Don't go expecting the weapon system to be like FFVII where you can slap materia on it, and make it a powerhouse. Ain't happening! The game also offers accessories. These are pretty standard in FF titles. Some give EXP bonus, and some give more HP/MP/ETC. You can unlock more accessory slots via ascension so that's cool. There is no way to upgrade your accessories (at least not that i'm aware of) so don't hold your breath on that. Also going back to FFVII this game kind of reminded me of it, because there is no armor in the game. Just fatigues. Basically different skins for your character to wear. I haven't noticed any sort of advantage to them, and they seem to be purely cosmetic. So just like FFVII you only have to worry about weapon/accessory load out. No armor. Which is a bummer, because adding armor into the game adds depth/challenge.
Skills: Each character has a given skill that they can do. For example Noctis can trigger a fishing mini game at various fishing holes. The fishing mini game is done well, and can yield fish that provide items/food for camping. The skill levels up as well, and will give more bonuses to you. Ignis can cook for the team at a campground which as stated before can buff the team up with some great temporary stat boosts. The more he cooks for the team, the higher the level goes. Gladio has survival tactics that focus on collecting more items after a battle. The more you travel on foot, the more it levels up, and last but not least is prompto who has the photography skill. Probably one of the coolest skills in the game. He can basically chronicle your entire journey with photos. The more photos taken, means the more photography levels up.You can even share your exploits on social media if you desire. A cool little feature that I hope more games do. It's kind of hard to take a snapshot in battle with other games, so maybe this one will set the bar, since all photography is automatic. You can also save up to 150 pictures. So save those memories! The skill system is something that is again, very simplistic, but at least adds a bit more of depth.
Music/Sound: No complaints here. Nothing but praise. The music is very good, the sound of a sword slicing, or a gun shooting is pleasing. The voice acting is top notch, and if that wasn't enough for you...well you even get to listen to past Final Fantasy music in your car while you drive to your next objective (so long as you don't fast travel!) You can even purchase an MP3 player in-game and listen to it while travelling on foot! Pretty cool idea!
Story: It can be a bit confusing and lackluster at times. A lot of stuff happens off screen. I'm wondering if that is due to the DLC that will be coming out in the future. There isn't much backstory on the boys either. I hope you enjoy anime, and CGI movies, because there is an hour long anime called brotherhood that explains the characters a bit more in-depth, and then there is the movie called Kingsglaive which I still haven't seen, but again gives more insight to the overall struggle between the empire and Lucis. I feel that they really did skimp out on story with this installment, but for what it is worth, the bit they do give you is very interesting, and I wont spoil anything here, but this game probably had one of the best endings in gaming history. Just pay attention, and you may see or hear some interesting things! Also seriously if you do like Anime, then I suggest checking out Brotherhood. It's not balls out action, but it does have some, and the stories are good and hold weight. Don't bother with it if you don't plan to play this though, as nothing will really make any sense to you.
So that's about all I can think of off the top of my head about this game. My final thoughts on it are pretty clear that I do like this game (please refer to attached photo) and I may not think that it was worth a 10 year wait, but it's better than XIII.....but nowhere near as good as XIV....or XII (which will have an HD release next year with a bunch of new things for NA audiences to enjoy)This however is still a solid entry in the series, and Square has already announced that it plans to update the game with new features such as added cutscenes to explain some of the happenings that occurred off-screen, a possible character switching system, a new game plus mode, and other free updates to keep the game running smoothly, and keep the player playing for a long time. Seriously though, how come they didn't just add new game plus before launch? One thing to remedy with the lack of new game plus for now is that you can continue playing the game to wrap up any loose ends after you beat it. Gotta beat them super bosses! So in time the game should get better, but in the meantime just enjoy it for what it is. A good solid RPG with enough content to have you playing for hours on end. To the few that actually read this, thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts on it. Happy Gaming!

I will also be holding off on bringing up any spoilers, because this review is purely meant to highlight the pros and cons of this title.

Being a fairly devout fan of the Final Fantasy series (Up until Final Fantasy 13), I can safely say that I've had a love-hate relationship with the franchise over time. That being the case, I've found myself being extremely cautious when it came to this title, due to the negative direction of the franchise as a whole over the past few years. Though, I'd have to say that I was quite pleasantly surprised at the standard of quality among the series that's set by this game. Though, there are some pretty noticeable problems.

    - Overall Atmosphere -

Final Fantasy 15 is among my Top 5 favourite Final Fantasy games now (My favourites being; FF5,FF6,FF7,FF9,FF15). This is because it rekindled my love for the overarching aesthetic of the Final Fantasy universe! The world in FFXV is beautiful, and is more than likely going to captivate anyone who can experience the game first hand. Its sprawling landscapes, mysterious geological anomalies, and beautiful cultural locations give life to a world that could only dwell in a Final Fantasy game. Alongside the world, the game has a fairly satisfying combat system, which will leave you feeling like an absolute badass at the end of most fights. But we'll speak more about the combat system later in this review.

    - Story -

The main story, on the other hand, is largely subjective. This is due primarily to its quite blatant problem when it comes to the story lacking a consistently entertaining experience. At times the story can be engrossing and will have you loving the characters and atmosphere. Though, on several occasions it leaves you waiting for something overwhelmingly extravagant to happen, when nothing ends up happening at all. For instance, there is a certain chapter in which the game loses all momentum and leaves you hoping that the segment will end very soon. This can be regarded as a large issue, especially when speaking of a Final Fantasy game. Though, there is one arguably good/bad change (depending on how you look at it) to the story's progression and details. The story of FFXV is immensely more comprehensive than most Final Fantasy games' narratives, which is actually somewhat of a drawback, in my opinion.

    - Post-Game Activities -

The post-game activities (Things you can do after the story is complete) are replete with a variety of interesting and uninteresting quests and objectives. Some of which will have you exploring dungeons and fighting fantastic creatures, while others will just be boring fetch quests that add nothing to the overall experience. There are also many separate outlying dungeons and areas in which you will be tasked with acquiring Royal Arms and many other rare weapons, accessories, and items which allow you to personalize your experience in exploration and combat. But there is only so much you can do, which may leave you tired of playing the game for subsequent hours after completion.

    - Characters -

Love 'em or hate 'em, it's all up to how you view these characters in the end. Generally speaking, the characters are much more in-depth than what they initially come off to be. Plus, they exude a certain wittiness that some may find annoying, and others may find charming and quirky. I'm not going to say much else regarding the characters, being that it's primarily preferential whether you like them or not.

    - Combat -

The combat looks and feels fierce during large sequences and against powerful enemies. But if you were hoping to have your very sanity challenged by a painstaking and bloodletting challenge akin to a Dark Souls perma-death run, you've come to the wrong place. The combat, while visually satisfying, is not challenging at all (In my opinion). Even larger boss battles can be very forgiving, when all you have to do is stock up on restoratives (Phoenix Downs, Elixirs, (Hi)-Potions, etc). Restoratives make you borderline invincible , due to the fact that you and your team could be completely wiped out, and all you have to do is use one Mega-Phoenix, then everyone is back on their feet with full health and a decent status buff.

    - Conclusion -

I couldn't touch on some of the more minor topics, due to the 5000 character limit. But if you're interested in a visually stimulating, slightly more in-depth hack and slash game with a fun and lively atmosphere, along with a few glitches/problems, I would highly recommend that you check out Final Fantasy 15! The story starts out easy to follow, but starts to lose its steam around its second act. It quickly becomes a mess of confusion as most Final Fantasy stories do. There are some jarring transitions to certain areas in the game that seem to carry little purpose. Although its third act is VERY short compared to the first two, it wraps up the story quite nicely and gives a very nice feel-good moment, thanks to the strong characters. Most other Final Fantasy casts aren't as likable, despite what some nostalgia-blind folk might tell you. This cast really does make the story worth seeing through to the end.

If you're not one for story and characters, then the gameplay is rock solid. The combat is similar to that seen in the Kingdom Hearts series. It's fast, frantic, and fun. Attacks flow well, and you have special abilities that your partners can use for various purposes. Multiple enemies can become a chore if you don't defeat them fast enough, but it doesn't take away from a very solid and enjoyable core system. In my opinion, it beats just about any turn-based system out of the water.

Overall, it's a game that puts its story behind its fun characters and equally fun gameplay. A gorgeous world packed full of giant creatures to battle, which can only be taken advantage of fully with the current open world and free flowing combat systems.

People are complaining about driving on the road for so long but that's the whole point... it's a road trip! The you’ll drive is 10 minutes. (btw you also have to fill up gas and repair the car sometimes(I love that immersion))The fighting mechanics are very fun and for a newcomer to the Final Fantasy series this is the perfect game. The quests are also very fun. All although a good number of them are fetch quest I personally enjoy them. The music is fantastic is does hit the heart with emotion and heroism when you're in the middle of a battle The graphics are glorious as also the atmosphere. Boss battle are intense as hell. The dialogue between the characters are realistic and gives you that bond between them. You can go from talking about each other's experiences during car rides or asking noctis about certain things to talking about problems on top of a motel ceiling. The experience you’ll have in this game are memorable and the relationship between the characters are on point. You truly feel that “bromance” when you're playing this game. The only problem I have with the game is that the driving mechanic is a little linear. You can’t go off road or really crash into anything but I understand because it wouldn’t make sense in the game if you were able to do that. After chapter 8, the game gets more linear so it can prep the player up for the ending. People are expecting the perfect game because it was announced in 2006 but in reality it wasn’t in development for 10 years lol. I really enjoy the new combat style from turn based to live action. People perceive it as a hack-n-slash but its not becuase it you do try to hack and slash you just get your butt whooped lol. The combos and team attacks just make the combat more enthusiastic. Final Fantasy XV is for sure a masterpiece that people will enjoy. Don’t listen to the people who gave it a bad rating because they are just rating it on nostalgia. LISTEN TO ME. FFXV IS A GREAT GAME! Expand

I agree that there is a obvious problem with the story focus, sometimes i felt like i was playing a game i didn't understand. But for me it's a PS4 problem. The creators focus too much on technicality but no more on the storyline ( the division , metal gear solid for example).
Being said even with that pb i found the overall experience very enjoyable.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Final Fantasy 15 sucks. It's completely overrated. Fanboy's world over will be screaming at me telling me how wrong I am. "How could I possibly think such things about this awesome game?". *cough* Cup Noodle *cough*
Let's start with Gameplay. One of the few things that is actually SOMEWHAT redeemable in this game. I did find the new scheme to be fun though after a while it's all about holding the Circle button and occasionally pressing the dodge and parry buttons. If you like simply holding down a single button throughout your battles you are in luck here.
    Also Chocobos ROCK!!
Visuals: Actually the visuals are pretty damn amazing. I found myself in awe during the better part of the game.
Sound: Pretty damn good also. I enjoyed the throwback tracks to some of my favorite FF moments in history whilst driving along in the very linear(and quite frankly boring) car rides.
Story: All great visuals and amazing sound aside cannot add up enough to the failing piece of crap that is this story. At best this story can be called weak. When you have to go watch a "movie" to fill in many of the holes. When I have to watch or listen to HOURS of side banter from random NPC's. When I have to purchase DLC. All of these things(plus some I am sure I am forgetting to list) are required for you to fully understand the "story". NPC banter should be supplemental, not blatantly required for me to understand the Main story. I shouldn't have to hit the fanboys forum's just to better understand the main villain. And most importantly if you are going to include a main story arc piece DO NOT make me purchase DLC just so I can get the whole picture there.

Bottom line here is this, Final Fantasy 15 is rushed. The main character is mostly unlikable 99% of the game. The secondary characters are the best thing about this and they take 3rd or 4th in priority of story telling. The blatant commercial for Cup Noodle was **** annoying(Maybe it was a joke but it just served to break me out of what could have been an amazing game) .

The game tries to compensate mistakes from FFXIII and give us a wide open-world at the begining, but then it decides to take a linear path for the second half which just setences the player for some long boring sequences (yes, chapter 13, i'm mentioning you!)
It just looks like a half-made game, which is proved by the amount of huge updates square already released and the plenty of dlcs scheduled.

The open world I also think it was something pretty unnecessary for this game and many of the sidequests were too repetitive, with unfunny storylines and characters. The rest of the elements were mostly brilliant, from the graphics to the music, going through a story which, although a bit clumsily told, was still very emotional.

Overall a very good game, and a good attempt from Square to bring new life to the saga, still nowhere near the FF masterpieces of the playstation one.

FFXV is a beautiful, expansive game with a lot of heart and easy to understand lore. The characters are deeply woven into the narrative, but it appears that they did a lot of people pleasing for the video game. They tried to give the Western audience the open world and the JRPG audience the narrative, which does not work for any JRPG title. I enjoyed running around the world, but I would have greatly preferred more depth to the other characters that were story driven and were not for DLC. To get the entirity of FFXV, you must watch the anime, the movie and play the game and DLC. For someone like me? A game like this can steal my heart, which is does down to its core but some people might not bother investing such time.

The battle system seems a little chaotic, I would have preferred a hybrid between FFXV and FFXIII where the characters don't need to be babied by you doing all the healing. I found the need for potions constantly to be really frustrating. There should have been a dedicated healer/magic character, but given the lore of the world it would have been Lunafreya, but they rob you of her in middle game.

I love the story, the gameplay and the adventure FFXV had to offer. It would have been a perfect score for me had their been a bit more development instead of open world shenanigans.

The good: Great battles are lots of fun and kept me coming back for 60+ hours. The bad: So Much time wasted!!! travel gets old fast when driving around, so fast travel i guess fixes that. Hunts send you going around in circles since you can only take on one of them at a time.

FINAL FANTASY XV is a game that has everything to make you happy. It has a open world, but also, has many linear moments due to story, and the story is VERY good at all. Escaping the flames of war, Noctis epic journey with his best friends is very real and deep. The battle system is so good and the game has the best dungeons in all FF series. I loved Princess Luna, she is so cute and strong.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you look at the whole 'Final Fantasy Universe', you will love this game even more.
First of all, before you start the game you should watch the Anime. Also, before you start or as long as you have just finished Chapter 1, you must watch the movie to get quite a few questions answered you might have in your head. You will appreciate the story much more this way. Also you may want to read/listen to the audio book. Square Enix has released the transcript for free for everybody to download.

If it was only the game, I might have rated it 8/10. But since I already knew the bits from the Movie and Anime, it just draws a bit different picture.

Now, why would you watch all that side material? This Final Fantasy game is being built around 'Friendship' and 'Brotherhood'. Every Final Fantasy game has some sort of thematic behind the main character. FF8 it was love and childhood bonds, FF7 it was friendship and self-finding, FF9 it was acceptance. In FFXV this goes much deeper. You will care about most of the characters in the game, especially the 'Brotherhood'.
Take your time to enjoy the open world, then jump back to the story, which will become very linear in Chapter 9. But you will always be able to come back to the open world and finish what you have not finished yet.
The world itself it a bit small compared to most recent RPGs, but it is very lively and fun. I highly recommend doing as many dungeons as you can. They are one of the best things to do in the world, but sometimes need a high level to complete. Most dungeons and other means to get enough freedom will be unlocked when you reach Chapter 8, so don't worry about chasing the story for a bit there.

The story itself is unexpected, after watching the movie. I feel some parts of the story were rushed, there is some dramatic effect missing and there are some holes in the story. This is understandable when looking at the struggle SE had to finish the game. I bet they would have loved to build in much more into the story, but deadlines are deadlines and the project just took too much money already. Nevertheless, the story itself is pretty good and keeps you interested in what is going to happen, but feels a bit short, so it can not really build a big momentum. This and some changes they did to the leviathan fight compared to E3 2013 are the only reasons I would give the game 8/10.

The combat is pretty neat and if done correctly, a lot of fun and extremely 'cool'. I found it quite easy, but some enemies can be pretty difficult, even if they are below your level. What I found is that it is quite difficult to die in this game, but easy to be close to death.

So basically everything in the game is really great, it just falls a bit short in the narrative (story itself is great, but a bit poorly told) and short on quality compared to what was shown in E3 2013 and a little bit of a disappointment.

If done properly, the average player might spend around 30-50 hours in the game before finishing.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a beautiful game. Final Fantasy XV is truly amazing and haven't liked an FF game so much since X.
It has some issues following a proper narrative line, but if looked in-depth the story is there.
The interaction between the 4 characters is awesome and even though I had a boys band feeling from the trailers, all of that has been dissipated upon playing.

Wow, this game.. This story... This idea.. I will be trekking m future kids of the game that revived a franchise and a game that made me cry multiple times

So far have played over 40 hours of Final Fantasy XV since the release day, and am enjoying the game immensely. With this being an open world game rushing through it will mean missing a large number story elements, which I can only assume some reviewers have done based on what they have written.
One of the most enjoyable elements of the game is the combat system, I look forward to every battle that I
    get into.
There are the odd annoying sections - the car is 'on rails' and you can't drive it where you want to - it is stuck to the roads. A highlight of the car from a Final Fantasy fans point of view is that you can play all the old music from past final fantasy games on it's radio!
And if you fast travel between locations you have visited the loading takes a while. However, on the loading side there is none at all if you don't fast travel, every area is open and accessible.

I'm around half way through the game at the moment and look forward to ending work every day so I can get lost in the world of Eos yet again. Can not recommend the game highly enough.

The game itself is what it sets out to be. A large, open-ended road trip. It performs as expected for the time that was put into it. I found the overall aestheticly pleasing. Final fantasy XV is an instant classic for the franchise, I have not had an experience with a world and a story in years, and that ending and the shock half ways thru the game is beautifully haunting... The game system is as fun as kingdom hearts but as tactical as final fantasy 9...overall I am pleased with the game and is slowly climbing the ranks of my favorite final fantasies, justFinal fantasy XV is an instant classic for the franchise, I have not had an experience with a world and a story in years, and that ending and the shock half ways thru the game is beautifully haunting... If you do the sidequests and optional tasks, the game becomes something grand, yet it sins and a lot when the subject is major story.

The plot is decapering and completing it does not require complexity, making it a very, very easy game.

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
