If you are looking for a game of old like those in the 8 bit era you will be disappointed, but it is a very good modern final fantasy game and probably the way the series will head into the future. The major downside to this game which caused me to give it a 9 instead of 10 was the repetitive side quests and a little too short of main campaign. The volume of content helps make up for the short campaign as you will spend a ton of time doing everything that needs to be done, roughly about 100 hours. I still give it a 9/10 as this is my favorite battle system in a final fantasy ever, and is the reason I love the game so much. I would have to say Final Fantasy is getting back on the right track, while this entry is not as good as most of the Ps1/Ps2 titles, its close. The real downside to this game is I feel that the replay value will be a bit low compared to past entries due to the repetitive side quests, which will deter completionists from completing the game multiple times. All in all I still give this game a solid 9.

    Pros:
    - The Barney-like dialogue of FF13 trilogy is gone.
    - Believable and memorable characters, good storyline albeit short for my taste.
    - Best combat system in the franchise to date imo if you don't have a preference for turn based vs. action (turn based is never coming back, so stop rating a game a 1 just because its action)
    - High difficulty encounters do require proper execution.
    - Throwback to previous FF's with various easter eggs.
    - Realistic Setting

    Cons:
    - Sidequests are a little boring and repetitive.
    - Short main storyline
    - Magic system is broken overpowered and trivializes a lot of hard encounters, also wish it wasn't consumable based (probably the reason for its power level).

As a huge Fan of the Final Fantasy Series (ranked as followed: 8, 7, 4, 6, 10, 12, 9, 13) its an Understatement to say that I was lookin Forward to 15. And after seing "Brotherhood" and "Kingsglaive" my Hype got beyond any measure.
So I locked myself up with the game along with the official Piggyback Guide (man I love those!).

So I locked myself up with the game along with the official Piggyback Guide (man I love those!).
And since i gave this game the highest score there is on here you can already guess what I think about it.
    FF15 is outstanding.
And sure not without its flaws.
Yes, the ending chapters leave some to be desired (Ive seen worse though lol).
The Magic and Summon System is Overall completely unneccessary (for the main Story Content it is).
There are no real Towns or Cities to explore, those that are in the game leave too much to be desired (no chatting with random People, no exploring townspeople houses).
"Safe Areas" where you can Rest, fuel the Car or shop items all look the same which leaves a copy/paste Feeling.
Side Quests are mostly fetch quests, lots of running here and there.
No direct commands for Team Mates. Overall difficulty (Main Story) way too easy, especially with plenty of items at Hand.
The loading times are insanely Long and there are way too much of them especially when you fast travel.
The camera is hectic and disturbed and even at its best moments it leaves some to be desired still since I often had a Feeling I dont really have all the control of things that I would Need.

So, after reading all of this you may think why the hell i even thought of giving this game anything more than a 6 or 7. And to be honest, I do too after reading it lol (just kidding).
But despite all those flaws (some of them to get patched still in future updates) FF15 is a masterpiece.
The characters are extremely well done and I really cared for them. The Story is evolving and gripping, the overall game world is just a sight to behold and full of mystery - it begs to be explored.
The fighting in General is also exceptionally addictive and the gameworld is breathtakingly beautiful and Exploring it gets rewarded. Theres Content to Keep you playin for about 200hours if you are that dedicated.
The combat feels just great. Switching between Weapons/Fighting Styles makes up for plenty of great Encounters, some post game Content (Mob Hunts, Menace Dungeons) will test even the skilled FF Veterans.
FF15 has so much charme and aesthetics, its production values Show in almost every aspect of the game.
It has its flaws, and I can somewhat understand all Fans that are disappointed, as there are many parts of the game that leave more than just one Thing to be desired still.
My heart screams 10/10, but I leave it at a 9, simply because that there are many things that could have been way better. Its been promised to be updated constantly, with some paid DLCs as well as free ones, along to some Major Changes in the game itself (so theres hope that at least the technical flaws like the camera and loading times will get patched) - so FF15 will also be big in 2017 still.
It may not be the best of the series (but judging this is beyond any human measure lol), but for me as a die hard FF Fan I was captivated as much like no other RPG could in the last years - a Thing that only FF does to me, and this makes FF so magical and Special to me.

Story - It is worth noting that you should not play this game without watching Kingsglaive first as it would make very little sense others. The story starts strong and ends strong. It is an epic universe and I found myself really caring about the fate of the Kingdom of Lucis The middle section of the game is riddled with plot holes however and the pacing of the story is inconsistent. You should also take your time to read notes left around the world and listen to radio broadcasts as unfortunately they often contain important story information that is extremely easy to miss. 7/10.

Characters - Usually I'd bundle this with the story, but the 4 main characters are so strong in this game I had to make a new section. It has been a long, long time since I felt an emotional connection to video game characters on this level (Eli and Joel in the Last of Us the only ones that come to mind). They compliment each other perfectly, they make witty banter that never repeats itself too often and you genuinely want to see them succeed for each other. Even Pronto, who I felt was a weaker character at the beginning, turned into a favourite of mine. 10/10

Music and Presentation - The world is gorgeous and the environments varied. It's not on The Witcher 3 level in this regard, but it beats 9/10 modern RPG's in this section. Deserts were barren and harsh, swamps were atmospheric and dark, cities were bustling and grand.
The music was a let down by usual FF standards but the fact you could listen to old FF soundtracks while travelling in the Regalia (the name of the car in the game) was a nice touch. 7/10.

Gameplay - I've read other reviews that laud the combat system as some kind of masterpiece. This was not the case for me. As you would know the series has moved away from the turn-based combat into a free-style action RPG type game with hints of RPG influences like potions/buffs/team-skills/etc, this work really well at times, but horrendously bad at other times. The main issues being 1. Fighting multiple enemies at ones and 2. fighting in certain environments.
    1. I found targeting in the game to be a real issue when fighting hordes of enemies, which the game seeming to want to switch me to a wrong target at times, often putting my squishy Noctis right into the heat of the battle. Then you would often be presented with a quick-time event to try to dodge an incoming attack, these quick-time events though were inconsistent and often impossible to complete, making for frustrating battles.
    2. When fighting in areas inside or under the cover of tree's the camera often had no idea what to do mean you often could not see the creature you were fighting or even Noctis himself, again less than ideal. 5/10

Other - Two complaints I couldn't fit into any other section.
    1. Saving you game. Particularly in the last 5-6 chapters when the story becomes more linear there are whole sections of the game where it will not allow you to save and where it has not auto-saved recently. This often meant having to play for another 15+ minutes in order to get to a save point so you could turn off your console and go about your day. Very frustrating.
    2. Sprinting. There are sections of the game where it simply will not allow you to use the sprint function for seemingly no reason, causing those sections of the game to drag out as you tip-toe around the area. It may seem like a small complaint but a game taking the wind-out-of-your-sails can leave a sour taste in your mouth.
    Two pros I should mention.
    1. Chocobos. They are back (obviously) and they are a joy to ride, upgrade, race. Perfectly executed... (I just wish I could pick up items around the world without having to get off...)
    2. Mini-games. Justice Monsters 5, which is pinball-espe, is a nice little mini-game and I also enjoyed spending 15 minutes here or there fishing with Noctis.

Overall - FFXV is a better than good game, but it isn't a great one. The story it tells is great however and the characters are worth the price of admission alone. Just be prepared for a few frustrations along the way.

There is one thing you should take note of; I cannot and will not call this a review. I think burdening a game that is in the scale of Final Fantasy XV with a number is beyond my capabilities. That said, I simply scored it the maximum possible score, as I foremost desire for this review to be read. So, please, join me for a not so brief yet somewhat important talk.

Final Fantasy XV has two major flaws:

The first and less burdening flaw lies in its side quests. Many of them consist of simply fetching stuff with no background story at all of the world or the characters we are in. Thus, no drive to really explore these quests is really created, making most people who can't enjoy such a thing feel discontent from the game.
The second flaw is actually important and in the end, takes away a lot from Final Fantasy XV. We have here an amazing story, which I assume was written with love and thought. But it's.. simply put, badly executed. Missed cut scenes, cut content, way few explanations, fewer "meetings" in the story with important characters in the game, like King Regis, Luna, even the Emperor and most of all, a feeling of a work that didn't get enough time to be completed. Was it the development hell from which it had to be saved, or a lack of concern for storytelling? I don't really know. Even the material that came with the movie and the anime don't correct this bad side of the game. The story is just not handled right. What I need to clear though is that, while many people say or believe the story is bad, they are actually far from correct. The story is brilliant, the way that is presented though... Far from it.

And so, I get to the main point I wanted to talk with you. Why can't I review this game, or why can't I shake this feeling in my heart that it's a ten, despite its clear flaws? (Take in mind I have never played another FF game)

That is truly a simple thing. I immersed myself in this beautiful world and explored it -and still am- with all my being. It's truly a marvel how a world so alive can be created through a computer. You cannot help but enjoy traversing through this world, through its lakes, its dessert, its mountains, its towns, its many many dungeons. The vastness of it, its beauty, the amazing music, the fun of exploration, the different beasts that come with it are all simply connected by a trivial thing. The relationship of its core cast. Those four young characters, albeit a somewhat generic and mainstream J-BoyBand, are connected so deeply and their relationship is crafted so well that you can't escape from their "spell". All those side quest problems, or even the execution of the main story, are somewhat if not completely forgotten due to the simple relationship of four characters. As you enjoy traveling with them, eating with them, indulging in their hobbies, getting stronger, you'll see four splendidly crafted characters - and their in between relations - that keep you immersed in the world. And suddenly, all the aforementioned problems, although visible and still there.. are simply cast aside. So much that, by the end of the game, you are afraid to proceed to the last mission, simply because you don't want your journey to end. You don't want to say goodbye to these characters.

There is where Final Fantasy shines. That's the reason why I cannot simply give you a proper review. This game is a work of art and the next evolution of video games. Those of us who believe in the potential of video games as art cannot simply ignore this. And more importantly, those who didn't manage to escape from the "spell" are bound to fondly think of this world for some time to come.

Conclusion: Many people will not understand this game and won't go past its flaws. I agree that the way the story is handled is a massive blow to its concept, which is beautiful. That's the reason why it has received mixed reviews up till now. It's also the reason why its true aim that I mentioned before is somewhat "hidden". But, I at least hope that after reading this, even you people who have come to dislike the game would see it in a new light. It's a way forward in the Art of Video Games. And you should at least-as video gamers - recognize that.

The Base Game was sold Unfinished in every aspect.
    * Story: So many stuff were cut that its hard to bond with the characters, the story felt partly rushed and had many plot holes which lead me to the 2 of 3 DLCs. The DLCs were obviously made to milk the gamers, All Character DLCs should have been in the Base but instead we were forced to pay for Story relevant content as well as a Movie.

*Characters: like already said due to cut off content its hard to bond with most characters. Ther are so many characters with a lot of potential but didnt get a chance to shine like Lunafreya which is the most important Character besides Noctis since shes the Heroine and you wont get much to see of her. Some characters were cut off after seeing them once on screen or even never.

*Open World: Square Enix sure did a number on us here in decieving us having a huge world to explore which is a lie, the world we can explore doesnt have much content, sure if you like a hack and slay like rpg the you get it. All you can do is run around different areas after you unlocked them and kill Monster by just holding a single buttom, all dungeons you will find arent special or have any unique feel to it.

*Game-play: What iam most furious about is the Magic system, to be honest i tried it once and to see how it all works out and then i never even once used it, i fave no need for Magic which hurts myself and need to be recreated and grind-ed for certain effects after using it 5 times. The battle System is also a joke, simply pressing holding a single button and you get through the entire game.

In the end the whole game is simply trying to look like a great openworl RPG but the truth is, the game is still unfinished and Square Enix release bad DLC to convince you to working on that part but after over 1 year all i got is a half a**ed Game with a bad story bad game mechanics a hollow World and soon almost 100GB of Final Fantasy XV on my PS4.

    * For all trophy Hunters: this games is a nightmare cause it releases bugged or not proper developed DLC which makes it hard to get all trophies.

Beautiful visuals, really strong characters, a great story (so far), and a combat system that is much improved over the version we saw earlier in demos. Kudos, Square Enix.

FFXV is not a perfect game, but it has a character to it and a heart that more than outweighs its rough spots. Final Fantasy has always been about change, and FFXV managed to be different from anything I have ever played before, while also feeling very classically Final Fantasy.

FFXV's core cast are fantastic and I really came to enjoy their company. Small details like Prompto's pictures, or quips from Gladio about taking off your jacket do a lot to get you invested. A similar care was taken with the world, and I was honestly astounded by some of the tiny details you can find. The plot seemed genuine and heartfelt, and some of the cutscenes and bosses are downright breathtaking. Combat has a surprising depth to it. When you start doing well you really feel incredibly powerful while zipping across the battlefield.

That said, there are some hang-ups. The most noticeable are the load times. (and I hope the game comes to PC just for this alone) They are horrendous, and they make fast-travel into a huge hassle. I also have issues with magic which is incredibly powerful, but generally unusable due to friendly fire. I may need it for optional bosses I haven't tackled yet, but mostly I just regretted wasting AP on the skill tree. FFXV also has some of the most groan-inducing and obvious product placement I have ever seen. I can handle the prominently Coleman camping gear, Lady Yunafreya's wedding gown being made by (and credited to) an actual designer? Okay, I guess. But a quest about Cup Noodle, filled with praise? That knocked me right out of the game. Additionally, the second half of the game feels rushed. I like the idea of the game becoming more linear and speeding up as it approaches the climax, but the game honestly feels like it could have been 10 hours longer, both in terms of plot and location. There are also a couple sections that play at stealth or horror... they are not good. Finally, there is the car which, while a nice idea, was so restricting and time-consuming that I would often go make food or even read a couple pages out of a book while riding.

Overall though, FFXV really sold me on both its world and its characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed the combat. Looking back after beating it, I remember the strong emotional moments, Prompto's picture album and some exciting fights, not the mediocre car rides or forced survival horror sections.

FFXV is a game that truly touched my heart and dare I say one of my fave FF installments.
Indeed it is different with its open world approach and action combat. But I assure you that the story is an FF like story. Though it is quite short (I'd say around 10-15 hours of story while the rest are roaming in the open world).
At first the story seemed pretty simple and boring to me, a boy band traveling around having fun with no actual motive, so I didn't really enjoy it. I had more fun doing the side stuff than continuing the story.
But when chapter 6-7 came...That's when the story turned a lot better.I felt emotional throughout chapter 7 till 15.
SE did a great job in playing with my heart.
As for the Open world, its great.
The world is beautiful and big and theres a lot of stuff to do which are very enjoyable.
The characters are great, they all have lovely personalities and while it isn't so noticeable, character development does accur with all of them. Especially towards the end.
Now the reason while I gave this game an 8 instead of a 9-10 is because:
-There are still bugs in the game.
-The camera isnt perfect, sometimes while in a talking scene/battle it pans out to a totally different direction from what it should focus on.
-The combat feels great but it does need slight tweaking.
-The story felt short and some parts of it came by surprise with no real explanation, would be nice if SE would elaborate on those parts a bit more instead of throwing them as a plot twist.
    - lip syncing on non cut scene conversations look a bit weird.

Overall this game is great. and while it does have technical issues it holds a warm place in my heart.
my suggestion to anyone who is going to start playing this game:
Don't rush it. Take your time with roaming the open world, doing side quests and spending time with Noct's crew. It is all worthwhile and makes the ending even more bitter sweet than it already is.

Also, understand and experiment with the combat. Do the basic tutorials provided by the game and watch some tutorial videos on Youtube. Trust me, you'll appreciate the combat A LOT more and you'll enjoy it.

The first hour of the game is like a novel, starts off boring and gradually gets interesting and fun throughout. I love the combat, it's simple yet complex at the same time. The animations are truly next level. Graphics are beautiful. I love the chocobros, their dynamic and chemistry truly showcases the brotherly bond outside and during the combat. The soundtrack is beatiful. The world is lively. The story is probably the most disappointing part of the game, i expected a compelling story, but it's decent and simple, nothing more and nothing less. The voice acting is ok. There are a lot of questionable and annoying technical aspects in the game. The camera is bad.

Despite it's camera flaws and tedious side quests, Final Fantasy is back. It's best asset is the majestic and vast world which is filled with very detailed creatures, a lot of them familiar.

The story is vague and it's players poorly used, except for the four. Their story is about brotherhood.

I like everything about this game, probably except the story. Every final fantasy is meant to different. People comparing with older fantasies may need to think twice as things have changed and it is impossible to satisfy everyone.

Even if they change something in the game, the chances are the amount of people who turn from disliking to liking it will be just as many as the ones that

In an era where reviews, endings, bugs, stories, and secrets can be uploaded and easily accessible within hours after a game's release, we need to carefully sort what we see online before we play the game. I prefer not to start the game with any prejudice.

If you don't like it then its not the game for you, If you do then it is for you.

I personally tried it without looking at any review or spoilers whatsoever and I like it a lot.

One of the best Final Fantasy games in a long time, however the story is a mediocre rehash of previous final fantasy games (not naming which ones to avoid spoilers). The gameplay was also held back by some clumsiness in close quarters combat. I still recommend it for final fantasy and action RPG fans, it's a solid game.

It is very fair to suggest that this game is unfinished and clearly rushed. For the most part the game works as an open world hack n slash however it all falls away and apart around the half way point
Whilst I loved the open world, it did feel very empty and soulless. Only a handful of pit stops with the same cut and paste layout are spaced out sparingly across the map.

Story wise, it is a mess.... I couldn't make head nor tails of it. Horror show, nearly laughable.
It is fun to play and admittedly I did put over 40 hours in but it lacks serious direction and purpose.
Here is hoping the DLC fills in the blanks and eventually becomes a complete game.

At the time of writing this, I have invested 68 hours into the game. My actual number is a 9.5/10

Going into the game I had consumed the media SE wanted me to consume; Kingsglaive and Brotherhood. These did add to the world and backstory of the characters. I was able to look past some perceived character flaws because of them. Brotherhood showed me who these men were and what to expect.

Going into the game I had consumed the media SE wanted me to consume; Kingsglaive and Brotherhood. These did add to the world and backstory of the characters. I was able to look past some perceived character flaws because of them. Brotherhood showed me who these men were and what to expect. I never went into the game thinking something coming out of Japan wouldn't have some of their weak character tropes. I do think watching these extra pieces helped immerse me in the story.

My main little gripes were about controlling vehicles like turning the chocobo while rotating the camera or the stiffness of driving the regalia in general. The camera on bigger foes was not my favorite, but I never found myself losing because of it. I still got the job done. My third little annoyance was the repetitive dialogue in certain parts... "Talk about backseat fishing" after most casts for hours. The story pacing does change after chapter 9, sure, but you have to realize the gravity of the situation. What had just happened in Altissia. I believe it was made to send your reality crashing down around you and create a dismal view on the world in the process. As a whole I enjoyed the story and the story arc. I liked the end. The jump in time took a small leap of faith, but who knows how those crystals work?

The pros list is almost everything else in the game to me. I just came off of beating Xenoblade Chronicles, and besides the story, this game did everything better. (XC had a really fresh story that made you reconsider where you stand morally). The combat in FFXV is sublime, the world feels as big as it is, but not too big, the main fights are not difficult enough to discourage you, but are wonderful spectacles. The list goes on. From the outset of watching Brotherhood, I knew they were forging something special with these relationships. They even broke out of their respective tropes by the end. You get to see the genesis and evolution of each of them. What they say or don't say in some cases lets you in on the real information of who they are.

When I finished the story, I immediately wanted more. I dove back in and am now 23+ hours into the after-game. I want to do everything I can. I want the best weapons. I want to explore everything. I want to do every side quest (they are better and more varied in this game than most). While I was playing through this game I felt like I was playing something enormously important. I still feel that way in the after game. I can't get enough. Nothing besides the cup noodle ad took me out of it like all of these complaints I'm seeing. I went in with high expectations and somehow the game delivered to ME and exceeded them. I really hope people try this for themselves and don't just take number reviews, because it IS worth your time.

    Thank you for reading.

FINAL FANTASY XV is a game that has everything to make you happy. It has a open world, but also, has many linear moments due to story, and the story is VERY good at all. Escaping the flames of war, Noctis epic journey with his best friends is very real and deep. The battle system is so good and the game has the best dungeons in all FF series.

Its just to sad to see haters of the game rate it low without even actually playing it or giving it a chance just because its "different". Well sorry haters this game is really good. The wait was worth it and the game is both fun to look at and to play. This game is an 8.5 for me but I'm only giving it a 10 to supplement the negative reviews trolls leave here.

-Combat is fun, flash and actually not easy (You can't attack away)
    -Plenty of diverse side quests
-Characters are great and not annoying and boring as some other users say
    -Boss battles are fun
-Great soundtrack (including even all the past FF soundtracks)
-Summons are amazing to look at

    CONS:
-Camera can get messy at times
    -Summons are random
-A few bugs in combat, traversal, and in dialogue
-Some side quests can get repetitive
    -Story doesn't seem so focused

I find the game play mechanics great. The real time battle is absolutely great.

I quite disagree with people saying that you'll just need to press "O" or "X" to win, since you have a lot to think on this fast paced battle system. You need to manage your mp, make sure that you parry and counter, also need to manage your "bros" health and use their techniques. Of course if you over level.

Also in some degree turn based battle system might feel you'll need to press "O" to win.

I love the banter between the characters.

To be honest the bros are the most developed character in the series. I have played Final Fantasy from IV to XIV except for XI and I ended up caring much more for the bros than any other character.

The villain is really good for me but not "Kefka great" since Kefka is the ultimate villain for me.

The linearity of the second half of the story felt like that was due to the fact that they wanted to retain most of the theme of Versus 13. Also if think even older Final Fantasy titles are linear. They just gives you an illusion of the open world through is over world.

The graphics is great. I'm not the kind of person that focus on frame rates or since for me. As long as I enjoy the game that what's matter. Definitely this game was worth the wait.

If keep using fast travel then you will definitely experience a lot of loading screens. but driving to from Liede to Duscae is pretty seamless with no loading screens.

This might be my new favorite Final Fantasy.

Final Fantasy XV has mixed mostly positive reviews but I feel that the criticisms are ill placed. In this review I hope to first adress these criticisms and then give my own opinion on how te game feels for me.

People have criticised the main cast of characters. I hope that my opinion here can change some peoples opinions. Despite the characters being 4 different stereo types that are pretty generic in games , stoic to lively really is the scale. They do look like a boy band and in a lot of ways behave as such. The thing is once you commit to the characters and begin role playing as Noctis ( This is a roleplaying game ) then you begin to see that they are close friends and you can see why. It genuinely feels like these guys are close. Thing is the voice work can be bad at times ( well in English anyway) but the thing is real life is also like that. The story is Final Fantasy which is without spoiling anything very much Final Fantasy template , Start with small objective then it turns out you need to do much more for the world. ( This is the exception of XIII , Which to this day I am still trying to figure on what the hell was going on).

The Story is a bit convoluted without having watched Kingsglaive or Brotherhood. I will say that is why they are there brotherhood can be watched anywhere , and Kingsglaive costs 5 on youtube to watch, if you are committed to the roleplay then they are both excellent editions and really set us up for this world.

The next mixed reaction was with the combat. I want to make something very clear , the combat is excellent and very deep when looked at in depth. It's not just a simple sphere grid system. As you level you gain health and mp, But more importantly you gain AP. This is key to your success. Sure you can spend them all on noctis but in the long run that will back fire. I personally chose my abilities to suit my style and strategy. I gave Ignis techniques that would heal us better , I gave gladiolus Techniques that would either deal major damage or shield me and I gave prompto the ability to manipulate the battle field. It's correct use of these skills that allowed me to clear missions well above my level. You need to sit down and decide what your strategy is. Yes Magic now does friendly fire damage but noctis can get a birdseye view of the battle field. Best example is I was ambushed by imperial troops there melee warriors came right at us but they had 6-7 snipers in the back. These snipers stopped me from countering and from dodging in the melee fray. I teleported to the high ground and hit them with ice allowing me room to breath. I then used noctis to clean them out while the others fought against the crowd of melee. It was a beautifully realised fight and when the strategy pays off it feels amazing.

I want to quickly summarise my View of the other features of the game.

    - There are array of side quests and they are plenty of them

    - the combat is as deep as you make it

    - Story is great , just commit to the roleplay

    - Graphics are beautiful

My only criticism is that time to time the car drives can be a bt droll.

All in All its a must play for fans and new players

This is Final Fantasy for the modern era. No longer are you bound by an archaic menu battle system. Fighting is similar to the Kingdom Hearts series in attacking and dodging in real time. The world is immediately open for you to explore as soon as you start the game. While the story is on the short side, it has an abundant amount of dungeons to explore and side quests to do.

I personally hated FFXIII's battle system with a passion and was hoping for something like the battle system the game has but keeping with the old stuff. I personally love warping around. It takes alittle getting used to at first but once you get it you'll enjoy it. I like it way better than FFXIII's battle system. It's not frustrating and its very fluid to me and that's what I enjoy. I don't like the magic system but I never have been much for magic in RPG's at all. It really takes skill to use that one correctly. The only one I use magic in is Dark Souls

The graphics are amazing as per a 2016 game. It should look great and be a beaut to view. Don't got much more to say than that.

You need to watch Kingsglaive and Brotherhood if you want to have a full understanding of the preplot to the game or just go look up what happens. One or the other. The story telling isn't bad at all. Its intense at times as it should be. I love Noctis because he reminds me alot of myself. I won't reveal many spoilers but I think its a good story.

The open world is good but it doesn't go to its full potential. However, for the westernized JRPG that keeps with its old roots, I think it was done very well. It doesnt compare to some of the triple A titles who have been working on Westernized Open World RPG's for years like Bethesda and others have.

However, this should be obvious since they are trying to blend the two together. We have to remember that this is 2016 for the old FF folk that are annoyed. This is a generation of open world and very sandboxy games. I didn't mind the fetch quests. I've played Maple Story for almost 11 years and I'm used to it. If you are annoyed by fetch quests you'll be annoyed! I personally do not like the "stumble upon secondary quests" attitude. I can deal with it if it was the prominent use of secondary quests in this game. Yes there is alot of time spent in the car, that's what you have fast travel for. Be thankful, they could've made you walk the entire game.

Finally, do not go into this game expecting a savior. Final Fantasy 15 is not a savior. It is the foundation of something they really can build off of. We all know the JRPG's are struggling and the reality is they need to blend JRPG's and Westernized stuff together or they will continue to struggle. Some people may think this is an insane comment. I do not believe it is. I believe that if they polish up alot of the stuff in this game they truly could revive the series. Likewise, do not come in overhyping it or you will be disappointed. I was skeptical of the game when I first played it but once I settled in I personally enjoyed it. So go into the game and enjoy the game. Do not nit pick at everything you see because you'll find yourself rating it a 5 and say you wasted your money and whine like a baby. Its definitely a 7-8 game but because I love the series and am hopeful that this is the beginning of something good I gave it a higher rating. I'm glad I bought the game and its definitely been a fun time enjoying it and taking it slow.

I do not understand all of the hate towards this game. I can understand the wait but the continuous criticism of the gameplay sickens me. In other games, such as the Resident Evil franchise, there have been sporadic change in gameplay that revolutionized and gave life to the series. I feel that this gameplay change from turned based combat to real time combat is brilliant and outstanding.

When you have many other titles in development, lack of development thinking this would be apart of FFXIII as a side story and a rebranding, an engine change and next gen development would make a game sidetracked to 10 years in development. With that being said, was it worth the wait?

ABSOLUTELY! The game has its flaws, but it shows new LIFE in the Final Fantasy series, now we can turn away from the turned based combat and indeed move with other things and I would like to see more of this real time combat in the series. The REAL TIME COMBAT is what really got me interested in playing this title to completion. An adult version and Final Fantasy version of Kingdom Hearts is what I had thought about this game at first.

The storyline of the game is incredible until the end as I feel that the ending of the game could have used more build-up when Noctis awakened after his 10 year slumber. Moving forward with this, the FPS could have improved as well as there was some lag in the Frame Rate. I have seen that Final Fantasy XV's interface has a lack of design and which really knocks down my rating for this game. But as I have been playing it, the open world is beautiful and outstanding.

The activities in this game is endless and lasts a long time which really brings out the 10 years I have been waiting for. The main characters really bring out the definition of BROTHERHOOD. I love the communication and relationships with all of the main characters. I am also a fan of the supporting characters. Gameplay was extremely fun the story is gripping and heartbreaking straight at the end. This game I will definitely be playing again!

THE DLCs I will say there could have been improved but as we see the next few episodes, I can see longevity in this game and more room for REAL TIME GAMEPLAY in the Final Fantasy series.

    - So far at chapter 5. Almost no presented story narrative. Just "touch up" conversations at key moments.

-Taking Pictures, cooking meals.... are you kidding me? Wasted resources instead of presenting a good story....

    - I skipped ALL sidequests... If I wanted to play Skyrim or a World of Warcraft Clone MMORPG. I would...

-Choice of lore elements.... Southern Accents? Texas style music. Are you joking???

    - Having to stop playing and go "camping" when it's night because you get insta killed. Or better yet. You can't level up until you do.... WTF. This was a chore. TOO MUCH useless stuff added to this game instead of focusing on core story, background stories or amazing story development to make a novel look boring in comparison.

I have played the original Final Fantasy 1 on NES. And this game series has evolved greatly over the last 30yrs in my life. This game is absolutely wonderful and disregard anyone who says otherwise. I have played over 5hrs+ into it and its awesome! Love the MUSIC - Standby Me, and menu option and screens and etc. The game-play is wonderful, the world is beautiful and the characters grow.

Some of the pit-falls or challenges I have with this is game is the frame rate issue.. For action sequence games they need 60 frames per sec or it looks slow to me. Also the lack of story in the first 3 chapters is not well thought out and could have made it better. But the open vast world and hunting challenges is fun! I am not a big fan of the spell craft since it looks rushed. I am not a big fan of the equipment, item customization but ok with it. But here is how I broke it down.

    Story - 7.5
    Graphics - 9
    Gameplay - 8
    Sound - 8.5
    Controls - 7
    Overall - 8+

This goes to my top 5 best Final Fantasy games I have ever played and yes I have played them all!

However, There is a lot of great elements in FFXV that propell the series into a fresh new direction

+ One thing i really love is when i run into massive enemies and spend 20 minutes hacking it down as i
strategize and use party techniques, even though its 15 levels higher than me.
+ The Nostalgic music from all the previous final fantasy games which you can listen to while driving or even while on foot

+ The chocobos are amaazing!! the customization and racing is sooo fun and very much needed since your car is glued to streets only.
+ I really like some of the skills in the game, particularly fishing and cooking which offer up fun passtime activities
+ Of course the game looks amazing and has intense landspaces with different weather systems and massive structures that wow you as you drive past them.
    - sometimes Very.....very.....very long load times
    - Dialogue system is extremely repetitive to the point where it will drive you insane when your fishing or driving at night
    - Story line falls apart as you plunder through the abundant side quests that have no significance with the story line
    - I really really hate the car system in this game, i was shocked when i found out it was basically an on rails system.
    - lack of diversity in wildlife/monsters, most of the hunting quests you go on will have the same exact monsters
    - World just feels like its missing life, its very bland and vanilla
    - Many invisible walls that are very annoying, forcing you to run several minutes in another direction to go around

A literal dream come true for some Final Fantasy fans, FF XV comes with alot of anticipation as we've waited about 10 years for this game to become a reality. And while the majority of the game succeeds in being a truly great FF game, it's severely hampered by the story and by some very unimpressive quests that are in the game.
The elephant in the room is the story and how almost unfinished it is at certain parts. The beginning is almost completely taken out of the game and put into the anime that follows along with the game. The middle portion suffers from little to no explanation about why certain things are happening and what is, frankly, going on half the time. I would constantly say to myself "why is this character here and what are they doing?" as very little is actually explained, even with some of the more important characters in the game. Square has said they are going to add additional cutscenes to the game but the damage is already done, especially since the game was already pushed back to fix the issues they saw with it. Throw in the very odd horror level late in the game that just dragged on for way to long and you have a recipe for disaster.
It's a shame that the story is terrible as Noctis and his crew are very good characters and their interactions are one of the best parts of the game. Even the smaller side characters are memorable and the game really made you feel for them. And the combat system is one of the better ones I've played in an RPG in a long time, if you like Action RPG style games. For more traditional fans, the turn based mechanic has been taken out completely, with only a "wait" timer having been added so you can scan enemies and plan your attack. I personally loved the new system and I hope they build off of it for the future.
At the end of the day, the game doesn't live up to the hype that people built for it. Especially after the last delay, to see a story as poorly done as this is truly pathetic in my book. And it's a shame as the final area is full of really cool monsters and the final bosses are very fun to fight. I frankly had no idea, beyond the general "kill the bad guy" objective, as to why we were there and what we were doing. And the game never does anything to clarify itself as to what is going on. The story feels incomplete and I can't recommend it to anyone till that point. My score is from the combat system and the wonderful characters that are in this awful set piece. They were enough to carry it for me to completion. However I have zero interest in going back into the game now. Between the really bad fetch quests that plague the open world, to the promise that they will add more cutscenes, it doesn't do enough to keep my interest. The game is both very enjoyable and almost unplayable at the same time for me and that is enough to make me finished with it for good unless something drastic were to happen.
For anyone on the fence, wait for the next big cutscene addition to enjoy the game. You, frankly, won't get what you're supposed to out of the copy that is currently being sold in stores.

But the world is beautiful and more importantly it feels alive.

The bro-roadtrip feels organic due to the camaraderie of the four the make up the main party. The variety of activities and sheer amount of content is incredible. Over 100 hunts, tons of other side-quests which don't just give gil/exp, but also do things like upgrading your car, characters, and giving you shop discounts, the pinball-ish mini-game to earn bonus items/gear, and even over 100 types of fish to catch if that's your thing, which can be used in spell creation, cooking, or just making extra gil. But most of this is entirely optional, so you can enjoy the activities you like and ignore the others that don't matter to you. (personally I've embraced it all).

Art is subjective and everyone interprets it different. I did watch the Kingsglaive movie and the Brotherhood anime before playing, so perhaps that allowed me to embrace and immerse myself into the world more easily. This is an adventure that already has so much, but definitely feels like it could have had even more. This is certainly a Final Fantasy world I wouldn't mind re-visiting again in future games, I enjoyed it that much.

This game is a trainwreck of bad ideas. The only thing 'Final Fantasy' about it is the title. The series is in desperate need of a reboot after this abomination. It lacks direction and seems to have no idea what it wants to be. Had I not received it as a gift, I would have returned it after the first hour.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off let me just say that anyone who has given this title a score of 5 or worse, deserves to be flayed in a human sized cast iron skillet while being pissed on and while their closest sibling or pet watches, I'm kidding, but seriously. Final Fantasy XV may at times( but very rarely), seem cliche in dialogue and there may be somethings to nitpick; but at its heart it is a very warm and delightful fun loving game that should(in most people) fill every sense, vein, and emotion in your body with a sort of summerset like joy, as if you too were sitting alongside your best pals doing wacky **** things and just mostly trying to enjoy your time. The love is all there, in the NPC's, main characters, and especially the music, if there were to be one thing I would waterboard someone, then sew their lips for, it would be for giving a negative criticism for this games beautiful soundtrack. The soundtrack gives the game a lot of its life and charm; it fills each fight with a burning intensity, each cutscene with cinematic emotion, and is overall just a true to Final Fantasy's everlasting great sense of musical direction. The combat in this game is definitely a step up to not only the most recent of Final Fantasy titles but also(dare I say) most Final Fantasy titles. The game gives you two types of combat options, the first being the classic Final Fantasy turn based wait mode combat, the second is a more teamwork based action, hand to hand combat composed option, one that I'd say is a more riveting playstyle, the combat is a big factor in why I fell in love with this game, the only simple minded fool who would even say the combat is lackluster, or "press square to win" either A. Has not played it, B. Is lying, C. Grinded a crapload, or D. Didnt make it past chapter 3. Whatever it is, the combat is definitely fun, satisfying as hell, and not that simple. If you are to read any of these reviews here, please just dont read, or at the very least take anything here with a score of 5 or worse seriously, because I will tell you... It is all **** crafted by either whiny "the old final fantasy games were better" heathens, or just cranky babies who want to complain. Listen this game does have its problems alright, it is not perfect, the driving aspect can be a bit annoying, sometimes the loading times are sorta long, and sometimes the characters say someting kinda stupid, I wont be biased and I dont want to silence anyone's opinions here, or come off as some disgusting video game dictator, but I just want to save you from reading a **** waste of time review here from some person who knows nothing about the pros and cons of this game. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm gonna have to break down this game into pieces because of all of the highs and lows.

Music: the music in this game was fantastic it made almost every part of the game from the remake of stand by me at the beginning to the eic battle music throughout. 10/10

Gameplay: the figjting mechanics were very fun and felt realistic, the link attacks make the fighting feel fluid and seamless. 9/10

Characters: for the most part the main characters felt uninteresting. There was very little development beind then and i felt that the most interesting characters in the game were the supporting cast. (Arenea, Regis, Ardyn)5/10 slight redemption for the amazing support cast.

Story: holy **** this story was all over the place, they tried so hard to make a great story and it shows in some places but it seems so rushed. Major SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!! There are cerain parts of the story where they are trying to add to the story and make it more intersting and it just fails horribly. Ardyn is your brother?? Prompto was apart of the Nifleheim MT project I think? I'm not really sure. The story was way too rushed and rhey didn't take time to explain these seemingly important plot points. 2/10.

Over all the game did well in the music and gameplay departments which definitely saved the game. They also did well at playing off the nostalgia of the series with the familar summons of the game (the new looks of the summons are also completely badass) when you get past the story and the characters this game is very fun to play, and i would be excited to see a new game that helps clarify the story and bring some new interesring gameplay to the table, a Kingsglaive story playing as regis, or a spinoff playing as Arenea would be amazing!

The story isn't as deep as I expected. Plot holes everywhere. But still fun and really enjoyable. The first PS4 game I'm gonna complete the trophy list.

Final Fantasy has a place in my heart, however I have not really enjoyed anything past FFX. XII was ok, but the change in battle system I didn't agree with. XIII I started but it was SO linear, battles were a little better, it still didn't feel like FF to me...Then comes FF XV

    COMBAT
Once I saw the battle system was closer to Kingdom Hearts, I figured OK. That's not bad. But they need to REALLY separate itself and pull of something special. OH BOY. After playing with this new battle system for hours I can't imagine going back to turn based now. The action/combos felt so good to land(although some camera problems caused a minor annoyance).

    OPEN WORLD
I wasn't TOO excited to get my GTA fix from a FF game. But it works. Its not how I imagined it would be, but that's not a bad thing. I don't NEED to go off roading like people are complaining about. I think the open world has opened up doors for how future FF games can be realized.

    STORY/CHARACTERS
Before you play the game, YOU MUST watching the BROTHERHOOD ANIME (free on YouTube) and watch the Kingsglaive film. Are they perfect? NO. But I actually enjoyed them much more than I thought. After you watch those and power up FFXV for the first time, YOU ACTUALLY CARE about what's going on and who these boys are. Story is epic. It's no FF VI or VII but It's up there with one of my favorites.

    MUSIC
Beautiful. Sweeping. Fun. It worked VERY well and I can't wait for my LE order of the soundtrack.

    GRAPHICS
Some textures are gorgeous, some are boring. I'm not the biggest critic on graphics if the gameplay/story/music can grab me emotionally that's all I need.

    10/10
This game is some of the most fun I've had in years in a game. For a long time fan of RPGs, and the fact that I've waited for so long for an RPG I am so excited about says a lot. Most people would doc a point or 2 for glitches/graphics or "confusing" story...however the minor glitches didn't bother me, and the story really isn't that confusing! NOW GO PLAY!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After playing 20 hours and on Chapter 3 ( doing everybody sidequest/hunt/ getting recipes for Ignis etc. as I can.)

This game is simply amazing, there is so much to do and even the sidequests feel like they are a part of the world. For example: I was doing this "save the wounded Chocobo" sidequest and before that quest I had a similar quest but it was to only give it a potion ( felt good to save a little chocobo's life), but with this quest I had to travel back to a region I been before to save a Chocobo, when I got near the Chocobo, saber tusk like enemies jumped me and tried to attack the Chocobo! Of course I beat them and saved the poor injured Chocobo!

It may seem little and pointless to some people, but to me having little quests that make you a savior of something is a really good feeling!

Hunts are extremely fun as well, if you aren't prepared wildlife/hunts/dungeons will make you pay for your mistakes ( including not being well geared for the fight!)

There is so much to do in this game, and I highly recommend this game to anyone! This game has the potential to be game of the year of 2017!

TL;DR: Well below average for a Final Fantasy. It lacks the charm of FF IX, an engaging story of FF VII or memorable characters of FF X. Personally, I would rate it even below the lackluster FF XIII, which - obviously - is a bad sign.

    Pros:
+ Big and pretty open world, which you can explore quite freely
+ Good visuals, both in terms of textures and animations

    Cons:
    - Dreadful combat system. You basically hold one button (circle) to attack and another (square) to dodge. Many times I found myself just holding the circle and watching as my character blew away its opposition. There is no finesse in all that. I understand that this FF was supposed to be "for the fans and for the first-time players", but this... This is just dumbed-down to the point of absurdity.
    - Too many meaningless quests. Have you ever played Witcher 3? There's a ton of sidequests in Witcher 3. Some of them are fetch quests, sure, but ALL of them (and I mean ALL) are somehow memorable. Here, it's mostly, well... Bring me this, fetch me that. Booooring.
    - Riding the car. At first I was pretty excited to use the Regalia (that's the name of the car), but after a while driving it (or rather riding it) became a nightmare. Sometimes it takes five minutes for the car to reach its destination. Five minutes when you can do nothing but sightsee. Or make yourself a tea. Go to the toilet. Do something else. Anything. Otherwise you'll just waste your time.
    - No plot. Seriously. I was halfway through the game (maybe even a little further than that), and the number of exciting events equaled exactly zero. The game has no drive whatsoever. What, you mean that trying to regain the throne for an unlikable, spoiled brat is supposed to keep me in front of a TV for 40-50 hours.
    - Boring characters. That's pretty much self-explanatory.

All in all this was a huge disappointment. I waited for this game since it was announced in... I dunno. 2006? Maybe back then it could be considered good. Ten years later it's average at best.

Thank you Square Enix for continuing my favorite franchise of all time! It was worth the wait. I recommend this to any fan of the franchise, and also anybody who enjoys a brilliantly made open world, rpg, or action game! This game will touch your emotions and your heart! I hope people new to the series come to feel the way that I did when I played my first FF game & fell in love with the franchise! FINAL FANTASY IS BACK and BETTER THAN EVER! Expand

Actual score 9. But yeah lots of haters being nostalgic fools. Long time FInal fantasy fan, since FFIV. Love this FFXV. It's definitely also to appeal to newer fans, but fans of old will love this. The only ones who don't are the nostalgic old people who can't accept that the concept of a turn based RPG where characters are lined up taking turns is just getting old and boring.

Solid game but nothing special at all The characters and story are alright at best. The combat is pretty solid and more interesting than most of the other ffs. The world is pretty huge but a lot of the time it's not all that interesting. Overall it's a solid game if you like jrpgs, but it's not a must play to me.

The atmosphere and aesthetic is fantastic, characters are cool, love the photography, cooking and fishing, resting at campfires, on a roadtrip.

Loving the open world and questing, finding treasures and gathering food, great stuff. Fishing is interesting, it's not just throw and reel, see for yourself.

I've only played 6 hours so far as I got it today and I have somewhat of a life so this is just my impression up to now, I imagine it can only get better and better with introduction to bosses + other areas of the map!!
Looking forward to seeing some cool looking buildings later on where the s**t goes down!

    Things I dislike:

Driving - You're not really free to drive, even if you select manual driving, you basically just have control over accelerating, moving on to the wrong side of the road, turning left or right, U-turns and the handbrake. You can't go driving off road, that was a bit of a disappointment I admit BUT not anything that bothers me too much.

Music - Not a big fan, one of the reasons I love Final Fantasy games is for the soundtrack, and at the moment I can't say I'm enjoying the soundtrack. However, you can play the soundtracks of past games through the radio in the car, so that's something at least! :)

The biggest complaints to this game are utter **** and for one main reason. You can apply them to every other game in the series. Final Fantasy XV is a Final Fantasy game through and through, and what people don't realize is that what they want isn't Final Fantasy. Already people have hit the "This review is garbage" button and moved on, and they're in what we call denial.

Let's start with these gripes people have. "There's long stretches of going to a mission objective with nothing in between!" Much like the old games, where going from town to town was nothing except random encounters. Those encounters are still here, if you go on foot you will find them, if you drive at night they will find you.

"The cast are a bunch of emo boys, and there's no variety between them! Old games had men and women and non human characters sometimes." Yes, and no. Final Fantasy V featured a cast with ONE male protagonist and 3 females. Final Fantasy 1 didn't have genders at all, and neither did the original FF 3. (Not 6, the original class based Final Fantasy 3.) 1 and 3 also featured characters with literally NO personality, no story, and it wasn't until the remake of 3 that we got that. So in terms of "blandest" protagonists ever, 15 is still a cut above several entries in the series. And the emo boy look started with Cloud, and you loved it, now you hate, because you aren't twelve and have taste, but nostalgia goggles at popular this year.

"Well, the side quests don't have any story content to them. You basically go to a place, fight a monster, and go back. BORING!" Like Monster Hunter, like Elder Scrolls, like The Witcher, all high valued games. But let's take this in terms of Final Fantasy. ... Before 7 were there even side quests? I think there were a few in 6, but before that even if there was a side quest it was getting a summon or an item that certainly wasn't important to the plot. That's the definition of a side quest. And while the ones in 15 might not have much of a story, if at all, they make sense. Hunting monsters is what the detachment of fighters the majority of your party is made up of DOES. You basically just said, "Why are the soldiers fighting a war? That's stupid." And they even point out VERY early on that the all black "Emo" look is regulation uniforms. They're stupid, I'll give you that right now, it's very dumb that the king said "I want my soldiers to dress up like the Backstreet Boys!" but if that's the universe that's the universe.

"The battles are so terrible though! Even if the hunts make sense the combat is just holding one button. You can do this with your eyes shut!" And if you played every other FF game right, you can win by holding down X. Yes, it's true. I know, take a deep breath. Final Fantasy by the very nature of a JRPG means that winning battles can come down entirely to being beefy. Do you think it's more tactical to select a skill and watch it happen, as opposed to having to time the use of the skill so it doesn't miss? Final Fantasy used to be pure numbers, it was all luck or grinding. FFXV removes a good chunk of that, and I can tell you right now that it does because I took down a level 30 Iron Giant at LEVEL TEN. Why? Because I strategized. I picked good magic, I built meter, I hit it with its weakness, warped out, used Gladiolus' special, warped in, hit it again, chained, rinse repeat. It was far more involved and tactical than, "Oh, a horde of monsters. *Summon Titan to deal 3000 damage to all of them* Oh, I won."

And the story, every Final Fantasy gets weird at the end. If you don't think they do, rewatch the scenes on Youtube. Skip the gameplay, watch the scenes. So we're going to fight Sephiroth, who is this super solider, that's actually a genetic modified human from a petrified ancient, who now wants to destroy the world. Yeah, that makes complete perfect sense, totally not utter nonsense that you have to set aside disbelief to follow. How about Final Fantasy V? Where a tree with evil spirits turned into an evil warlock that wants to swallow the world into the void by smashing some magic crystals? Yeah, perfect sense. ... They're all slightly nonsensical, and at least FFXV has promised to help clear up a lot of the story, so benefit of the doubt until then.

Overall, the game is a much needed breath of fresh air, even if it's not perfect. It has flaws, the combat can get VERY tedious, especially when you just want to complete a side quest, without fighting a bunch of wolves that are far below your level, or enemies spawning in front of your car at night when you're just trying to spend EXP. And the quips DO get boring and nerve wracking after a while, but 12 and 13 had both of those problems, in a sense. It's inherent in all video games. It's silly to think that FFXV was going to solve long standing issues with the medium. What it did do however is update the Final Fantasy formula into something modern. If you don't like that, that's fine, but it's not bad.

The world itself is what was worth the 10 years. This being my first ever Final Fantasy game, I went in expecting amazing gameplay and battles, as well as beautiful environments and compelling music. I went in with the right expectations (Sans the story, of course). First off, I'll start with the characters. The characters were likeable enough. I've never seen a game with such a relatable "Prince" character, let alone pull off such chemistry between such a close-knit group of friends. They were funny when they told their jokes, but had their heartfelt moments - especially in the end of the game. As with any game, each of the four falls into certain archetypes that, in all honesty, are somewhat overplayed, but it works.

Now the story isn't the game's strong point as it relies on a movie and five-episode anime. There are parts that seemed kind of rushed (especially close to the end), and kind of jarring because of such a weird change between open and linear. Though the game does warn you when it becomes linear, telling the player that they won't be able to visit the open-world for quite some time. I agree with most people in saying Chapter 13 is probably the worst chapter in the story, focusing on some form of stealth that really does not match the tone. For that entire chapter, the player has no party, so it's quiet. The only other noises you hear are the patrolling enemies that apparently can see where you're hiding if you ran away and hid just one corner away from them, but turn dumb as bricks had you turned about 50 corners in such a small hallway, then hiding just one corner away. Throughout the entirety of the part that does take place in the open-world though, Noctis is sent through quests taking him through destroying military bases, finding royal arms, or going into covenants with the gods. So technically, you can complete the story in more than 20 hours, if you decide to find ALL the Royal Arms before continuing on. Royal Arms are arguably the best weapons in the game, usually having Attack Points of 330 or higher. However, this power comes at the price of Noct's slowly deteriorating health with every hit he makes using them, so it's always best to keep potions handy when the player knows they're going to use them.

Speaking of weapons, now I'm going to talk about Combat and Gameplay. Combat is actually really fun. Players are told in the tutorial to hold down the attack button to attack enemies and pull combos, however, players can actually keep mashing if they prefer the normal Hack-and-Slash gameplay. For fans of the older games, players can actually set the combat to "wait mode" which pauses the game (for a certain amount of time) when the player stands still, so they can strategize in the heat of battle. I prefer the active battle, truth be told, as the wait mode can take me out of the immersion. Battles actually look really cool and the hits are satisfying, but should they meet certain requirements, players are able to summon the aforementioned Gods to basically finish off the battles in such a beautifully satisfying flourish. Driving's kinda "eh" as the car's on a rail, but players can determine the direction of where to turn at intersections, should they pick manual mode. Auto mode's self-explanatory, but also leads to the fast travel system. Boss battles are really **** cool and look beautiful. There is a lot of **** you can do in this massive world too, ranging from Chocobo Races to Dungeoneering. Platforming's kind of **** due to the jump mechanic being odd (which caused me to cry out of anger due to the difficulty of the End Game Pitioss Dungeon). The game does have long load times, so take piss breaks when using fast-travel.

I've never seen such good graphics on a third-person perspective RPG. Seriously, the lighting and the textures are top-notch. Especially on the goddamn food. Everything looked almost as they were promised during the E3 presentation.

If you're a fan of the series, get it! If you're new to the series, it's a nice and fresh introduction. I highly recommend this game, as I've never played any game that looks as cool or plays as satisfyingly as Final Fantasy XV. I understand the game's far from perfect, as it has some glaring holes in both story and gameplay, but looking past that, it actually was worth the ten years of development. Usually, with games in development hell, they turn out to be not-as-good as everyone was hyped up for it. This one came as close to the hype as I've ever seen any game. Seriously, buy it. Fans of open-world RPGs or Hack and Slash games will not be disappointed due to likeable characters, satisfying combat, and tonnes of **** to do. The game is so beautiful that I'm still amazed by how it looks. It's a nice change of pace for the Final Fantasy series, and I'm glad this was my introduction

This is possibly one of MY personal contenders for Game of the Year 2016.

But that does not mean that i do not feel let down, because i do. The story is disjointed and full of holes. many important characters are only given screentime for about 3 seconds...there is a severe lack of cutscenes and no amount of decent cinematography. Everything we ever saw in any of the trailers are false. what i mean by that is, nothing that we see in those clips ever appear in the game. so i was waiting for things to happen that i had seen, to no avail. that is very good marketing yes, but it is also false marketing. So i naturally feel let down. also, there are 4 summons. you cannot control when they appear, which is actually kind of cool, because it works, it makes every appearance all the more special, but there are only 4...you get another legendary summon which makes 5, but it only appears during an obligatory cutscene. summons have always been one of the greatest and breathtaking aspects of the series, and to see it reduced to almost nothing is sad. though i have to say, those few that do appear in the game, are beyond awesome. absolutely gorgeous! so all is probably good. i just wish they had spent less time making a huge CGI action film with AAA names attatched to it, 2 independent games for android, a 5 episode animation series and a bunch of other crap in order to tell more of the worlds story...damnit, tell the damn story in the god damn game! at the beginning of the announcements last year, when we learned that all of these meta things were incoming, i screamed like a little girl who had just touched a hot stove! But it was only later that i realized that they obviously had to take away from the actualy game in order to make all of this other crap. so no, i do not condone this kind of meta philosophy. they should have cut the movie, cut the two android games, justice monsters five and kings knight, and the anime series and all the other **** and just focus all of their attention on the only thing that actually mattered in the first place. the god. damned. GAME. YES, i do love it, but i do feel betrayed, to an extent. the game feels unfinished, not so much in terms of mechanics, but in terms of interesting quests and storytelling and involvement of character. i understand why they may have made some different choices, and i am all for that evolution of the series, but i am NOT for the sacrifice of time spent on making the actualy product in order to make a bunch of lesser products to accompany the main product. obviously that obstructs resources and time that should have been focused into the main game and only the game. but it is still breathtakingly beautifully made. the combat is super fun, the music is powerful and there are a lot of good things to experience. You can see the 10 years, just not in any positive capacity. The development of this title started in 2006 and it's obvious that they completely shifted direction partway through. Clearly, the focus turned to targeting and drawing in new FF players rather than satisfying former fans of the franchise.

The glitzy GTA style car, the overtly western setting, and the completely male party are testaments to this direction change. I wouldn't mind these changes if they'd at least committed to them. If you're gonna give us a car, make the world truly open. If you're making the cast all-male then you'd better give us some top tier character designs and interactions to bring the ensemble together. Unfortunately, with FFXV we get none of this. The world is Semi-open but bland, the driving is pointless, characters look out of place and embarrassingly dated and most of all, their development is all but non-existent. As others have mentioned, the expansive world feels lonely with few monsters and NPCs to interact with.

In these times of extremely plot driven games, a lackluster story is frankly unacceptable. While I realize that there are other supporting media meant to supplement the story, I'm just not interested. I'm sure this would have flown a decade ago, but these days no one has the time nor the desire to trudge through an incomprehensible, piecemeal story concerning characters you don't care about.

With all that said I gave this title a 7.The gameplay itself was painless and honestly, I had fun wasting a few hours mindlessly running around the forest.

I'll start with 1. what most people will see as bad, then speak a little bit about 2. what I personally don't like, and then 3. a quick run through of everything FF15 does correctly and excellent in my opinion:

    1.

The game makes you "watch" sometimes, putting you in a situation where you are meant to soak in the atmosphere. If you are impatient and just genuinely want pure action from video games, I'd stay away from FF15. I thought the "watching" parts of the game really made me feel like the world was real and that Noctis and his guardians were real dedicated to each other. Frankly, it's one of the reasons why I like the game so much, but again, if you aren't this kind of gamer it is probably the main reason I would say to stay away from FF15.

The combat isn't Devil May Cry, Dark Souls, Darksiders or any kind of action/adventure-style. It is also not completely turn-based. I say that because some people literally don't know about this until they start playing. It may seem nit-picky to even mention it in a review, but you would be surprised for the reasons people don't like games.

There are parts of this game that are not story, heroes-saving-the-day oriented (think GTA5's golf or tennis or skydiving or racing). Some FF fans may think that this detracts from the focus you could have if the game was just based on story elements, but as a repeat player the non-story critical elements keep me engaged and fill out the world.

The game expects you to know a little bit about the world of FF15 before playing. Seriously, if you want to play watch the short movies and TV episodes associated with FF15. You can find them on YouTube. I wouldn't have minded doing this, but I found out during my playthrough and I could see other people hating that the game doesn't start on "Square One."

    2.

A lot of FF15's functions and controls very unintuitive. The game has a way of "interrupting itself" at times too, and this is annoying. Perhaps because I blew straight through the story and am now doing a patient replay and doing everything, my second playthrough just feels so much better than the first as it relates to understanding all the mechanics and how the world in FF15 works. To spin this positively though, I feel great that I learned the full controls and setup of the game on my own after sometime, but I wonder if there was an easier way of doing this.

Noctis feels extremely squishy. This can get annoying when fighting foes that are higher levels than you, and more so when, as mentioned before, you haven't worked out all the kinks of playing through the game. As a plus, this game is definitely harder than most FF games I have played when attempting a straight-shot full complete, but in a way that doesn't feel extremely cheap. An example is FF10, an amazing game, but a game that you can just tell had some sections where you were meant to be repeatedly smashed by a boss until you realized that it was time to murder giant turtles until you could prevent being smashed by said boss. If you die in this game it is because you are genuinely not fighting correctly or the stuff you are fighting is way too hard. The difficulty and the awkward controls can frustrate non-veterans at points though.

The story is serviceable, but has a few points I REALLY don't like about it. I won't spoil anything, but I really don't like when a game expects you to already be emotionally invested in or be intuitive against characters too early into their introductions. Things will happen to someone or you'll see someone and it's like the game is telling you "you should be feeling sad right now" and "this guy is your enemy." As someone that plays games without sound a lot (my thought process is that BGM doesn't play in real life), you can really see some of the game's silliness when playing without sound.

    3.

The game looks great, is definitely something that wasn't possible on last-gen consoles, the combat feels nice and new, I really like how packed with details and features the game is (the team gets dirty after fighting too long, the mini games are surprisingly well done, chocobo riding is dope, etc.), and in general just feels like a solid $60ish well-spent. The game isn't a perfect 10 for me, at certain times where it is forcing me to do things I don't want to do or isn't fleshing out characters more than I would like it's a 6.0-7.0, but as a package it's more of a 9.0 to 9.5.

I try to think about games in the sense of what the developers and art team were trying to convey, and it feels like the team cared about what they were making with FF15. I like that they gave me a little "thank you" note in my game box, and the disc inside the game case feels like a good gift to put this card with.

This is a fantastic game. Never played any RPGs and went into Eos with no expectations and now this game has ruined me for other games :D
Buy it, play it. It's well worth the money and time is one of the best you'll ever spend in gaming.

Las misiones secundarias son flojas.
Finalmente como seguidor de la saga es alentador considerando el XIII.

Best game I have ever played, the story is par none, the graphics are amazing for a console (PC elitest here), combat was intuitive and new, the magic is pretty busted but kind of balances out by the fact that you can only hold a limited amt of magic at a time and have to collect it. Every part of the game is enjoyable, even those long car rides, just cruisin with your goons feels awesome. All the characters are loveable and the english VAs are actually not terrible for once which is amazing, but they give you the option to do other languages w/ sub if you'd like. I'm a more recent fan of the FF series (played Type-0 HD, FF13 trilogy, FF14) and this is my favorite and without any question. Best storytelling any game I have played throughout my lifetime and I've been playing since a child so I've been played quite a few games to say the least, the game is so emotionally heart wrenching and just absolutely beautiful. sure it has it's shortcomings like the long travel times, and the fact that you have to rent a chocobo instead of capture one yourself witch in my opinion losses some of the charm of having your own Chocobo.

but the battles are fun, the characters feels legit and you can almost believe that they have known each other for ages.

i have spent about 130h on this game and still haven't done everything.

it's not for everyone but for me it is perfect

My only real complaint is the baffling holes in the story and how entire parts of it just seem to be missing. No idea how this happened but it is a really glaring issue in an otherwise delightful RPG game.

If people think it's not a Final Fantasy game at its core, I beg to differ when I'm riding into battle against a huge Bandersnatch on my custom red chocobo named Hatebeak, 15 foot long magic sword in hand

Amazing game!!! Immensely better than FFXIII.
The story is great (specially watching the movie and the five anime chapters before playing the game). However, it's greatest achieve is the battle system and the soundtrack, simply amazing

    1. The “Open World”
I wasn’t against the idea of an open world final fantasy game. I had played The Witcher 3 prior to this and was very impressed with the open world structure. Everything felt organic, continuous, and although there was a lot of monotony with the design, the regions you entered had a sort of “personality” that went with it. This was not always the case for FFXV. Let me start by saying that yes, the world is beautiful and there is a lot of room to traverse. But in a lot of ways, it’s actually very limiting. Lucis sort of blends together across the board and a lot of it can feel like filler. Even the sidequests can feel like filler, most are a kill or fetch quest. Don’t get me wrong, the scenery looks beautiful, and there are specific areas that deviate from the norm, but there are many times where you’re barred from venturing into certain areas by an invisible wall. And the regions in the open world that you’re exposed to don’t necessarily feel significant and captivating. A lot of it actually looks the same with very little distinction. You find yourself driving back-and-forth across these areas several times feeling like it’s all the same. The exploration also gets cut short after a certain point. In essence, you can go back to it, but what if I want to explore more of the new areas we’re exposed to?
    2. The Storyline
This series has always had a knack for making sure the main storyline took priority. They have definitely shown some major flaws with the way they tell it, but for the most part it felt as though they were trying to create a world with a lot of depth. The problem with FFXV’s story is the lack of depth. I wanted to care about these characters, and be drawn in to an enticing story. But, this game just didn’t manage to do that. The first half of the game drags a bit, and doesn’t do a good job of building things up. It felt as though sometimes they threw in random “sad” moments to try to make the player more interested, but instead it made me realize how little I knew or cared about some of these characters. A lot of the characters were hardly memorable. And in the second half (if you can even call it a half) once things started to gain momentum and depth, the game ends, literally. Lunafreya, Ignis, Prompto, and Gladiolus are all main characters yet their backstories all felt a bit shallow, or had a ton of plot holes (i.e. Prompto’s deep dark secret, what happened with that?) Things are introduced and then hardly elaborated upon. Why should I care about Ravus? What are his motives? And is Aranea good or bad? She just has a change of heart all of a sudden? What happens to Altissia? And why the hell can’t we explore the WoR??! Yes, I am aware of Kingsglaive, but I shouldn’t have to buy spin-off movies and anime cartoon series just to know what the hell is going on with my characters. If you’re going to design a storyline, give us the finished product. This game felt like a rushed job, and it definitely shows. In theory, this plot had so much potential and was actually very interesting, but this game suffers from poor pacing, poor story execution, and lack of character depth/progression.
    3. Battle System/Customization
I really like the battle system in this game. Sometimes it feels a bit button-mashy, and the AI can be super irritating sometimes, but I still really enjoy it. It rewards attentiveness and being on que, and there are a few other things that make the combat feel strategic. I actually looked forward to random battles (which are continuous with the open world). But, the camera easily gets distorted (especially in crammed areas) and if there are multiple enemies, it can be hard to tell who you’re actually aiming for. The customization aspect was fine. There are a few powerful weapons to look out for and equip to your party, but other than that the game felt almost too easy (even by FF standards) and didn’t require much of this. The final boss battle (and most boss battles) were very disappointing and unmemorable. The way they’re introduced tends to run on the anticlimactic side. I want to feel the rush when I’m about to take on a deadly foe, not just be like “oh by the way here’s a boss fight, have fun.” Atleast combat was really fun though, I’m still enjoying it, even with its flaws.

Bottom line: Do I regret buying this game? No. I think it’s a game that has a lot of good qualities, nice graphic design, and solid combat. But, after seeing the great work this series has done over the years, I’m a little sick of playing these newer games that feel like incomplete, rushed jobs.

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
