Only two big defects: The storyline is undone, there's some very important character left behind and there's a lot of bugs and i hope truly that they will patch them.

The game felt like an overreaction to the linearity complaints of FFXIII. The game could have been great, but it felt like a mish-mash of ideas that never worked well together.
    Cons:
-Many graphical issues. Such as fish swimming above water, NPC characters floating in mid-air, etc. -Gladio getting stuck in an infinite falling animation and becoming useless. -A terribly paced story.

-The car idea was not as fully realised as it could have been.
-Characters disappearing from the party for no reason, only to return later without any explanation, to then have their excursions sold as separate DLC.
-The game gives you a large open world to explore, but then forces you down a number of corridors as if to say "Hey! we have all these cool places in the world. But rather than connect them in a meaningful way, with a satisfying story, and to fully realise them as player spaces, you can have a look at them from the window of a train car or in a tiny little area just of from the platform. enjoy!".

As for first timers, well, for this game I do feel a bit like a newbie, as the combat is so unlike any other FF game. I say that, but as I continue playing it does begin to feel like a stripped down FF XIII: Lighting returns (let the Horror of that sink in). Against one enemy (even a boss) combat is pathetically easy, against multiple enemies it's a chaotic mess. Magic is impossible to use without hitting your allies, so it just turns into a melee-fest.
The game itself feels like Squares attempt at a Skyrim like rpg, this may be a good idea but I wouldn't call such a game a Final Fantasy.
I will say this about it, the grapics and settings are beautiful.
For anyone who wants an old-school jrpg this is not it. For anyone who wants a sandbox rpg there are better options, for those who the the offspring of these two, what the hell is wrong with you?!

I'm definitely a bit biased with my score for this game, because a big reason I rated this highly is that I was really blown away by how beautiful the game is. Many of the other game fundamentals were either pretty good or at least solid enough to not be annoying. The combat started off new and inventive, although parts of it weren't all that great and by the end I was fairly bored with it. The side quests were pretty average. Voice acting and facial animation was pretty good imo. And the story and characters were mostly competent, although the pacing in particularly wasn't great.

But the biggest thing I felt during this game, and the reason I'm giving it a 9, is that I thought this game did an excellent job of getting the player to often just put down the controller and observe the world. Even in vast open world games, we spend most of our time running through them and often only admiring their beauty while we are busy doing other things. But this game did a great job of replicating the feeling of just driving in a car through beautiful scenery, not taking too much time to worry about what comes next but instead just focusing on what you're seeing outside. I think that this is easily one of the hardest things for games to do well - most of us don't want to take the time to smell the roses when we're playing video games, we want to be continuously occupied by either the story or by doing actions in the game world. But this game really did a fantastic job of bringing me back to that feeling of being on a car trip in a new location, that I almost never get from gaming.

The graphics are actually quite nice. I really enjoyed observing the environments and the photo mode brought this to the forefront. The downside is that it takes too long to traverse the environments without fast travel, which undermines them quite a bit.

The gameplay is also going to divide fans, old and new. No longer turn-based, the game borders on action-oriented more than RPG, however it fails to achieve either of these. You can simply hold the attack button and have fights progress basically on autopilot. There are block and parry options, however these are rather inconsistent and in busier battles you will lose track of what's happening. Also, magic has been reduced to just a 'weapon' wielded by any character rather than encouraging the development of a mage. Maybe they wanted to simplify the game, but all they achieved here was encouraging people to ignore magic completely; at least, that's how I reacted.

Finally, the story. I kept this to last as it will contain SPOILERS and is my biggest gripe. It seems since FFX they just cannot capture a good story. It starts off quite well, however by the midway point it becomes muddled, uninteresting and left me completely unsatisfied. How have they not learned from FFX and FF13 that killing off protagonists is never well received? Other than the Tidus issue, FFX had it perfect - we learned the story gradually and developed feelings and attachments alongside Tidus. The later chapters leave the impression that the game was created in chunks and thrown together none too cohesively.

Overall, I struggle to recommend this game. FF aficionados will want to find out what they are missing, much like myself. However my fears were realised about 10 hours into the game when hunts and fetch-quests became the central formula, and the open-world wasn't always open or accessible - in the later chapters you can't traverse it at all! Still, the current cheap price makes it worth a bash, and if you don't mind the repetitiveness then you could clock up some serious hours in this. I just think there are much better offerings out there.

But my main problem is that leveling up feel unsatisfying. I don't care if Noctis is Level 12 or if he's level 70, the games almost feels like an action game with RPG elements. Kingdom Hearts feels more like a RPG than FInal Fantasy XV does. I was really hyped for the game when it was first coming out and when it did, I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed by my lack of out-put with how I could affect my characters stats, and thought that It would open up as I get further in the game. The only reason i give it a 4 is because the main characters have chemistry and their story together is beautiful, other than that this game has nothing.

No extra characters really except maybe a sexualized mechanic with boobs on your window, yep thats bad.

At the first point of no return, i felt like the game was over, that boatride to Altissia made me think something weird was going on with this game and sure enough: Time Travel.
Probably the worst idea Squeenix can come up with.
I really enjoyed the pace of the story until then, Titan was my favorite part.

I like this game and put 100 hours into and enjoyed maybe 40-50 hours of it, the rest i regret playing honestly.
Example the menu is super offputting and the battle system, repeatitive side quests and nothing to do but jump around blue shinies because they failed to have seperate buttons for picking up treasure and jumping and chocobos cant even pick treasures, which makes the chocobo travelling so much worse.

Even X-2 has arguably the best battle system in the whole franchise but this one has to be the poorest, i mean you cant die !
Way too easy and the camera goes everywhere. The staff even know the flaws so they tried to fix it but they couldnt.
I rate the extra chapters alot higher than the game, also the Kingsglaive movie and the Youtube episodes. All were amazing and got me pumped for this game but its just failed miserably.
Episode Prompto was the best thing in this game, i give that one 9/10, i mean its supposed to be short but its so well done, i wish they did the same thing with the game except just rehash areas and another gas station.

On a Final note, what makes FF great is the music, characters, storyline, crazy battle mode, customizations, exploration, travelling by land or flight and so many things to do but this game tried and failed.

    1. Music was decent, i will not bash that but it wasnt amazing, however they did add MP3 which was a fantastic idea, so music wise, sure they tackled that one.

    2. Characters were only 4 in the game, there wasnt alot of other people. I mean sure without going into confusing plotholes, antagonists were a few, and one of them showed up often. But all in all, not rich in character building or interactions, except between the 4 and the antagonist harassing them.
You see interesting NPC's but its very shallow, thats why i liked the extra episodes because Cor and Aranea got alot of screentime.

3.Storyline is super promising, especially due the movies and episodes earlier but it falls flat and has so many plotholes and random things its ridiculous. Staff tried to fix it but didnt succeed since its already been released and its a mess. Regarding the end however, it was a decent fix.

All in all i liked the game 40%, but the the only way to die in this game is by flying the Regalia, it was the only challenge in the game and new Game plus would be even easier since enemies will still be pathetically weak.
And the loading times are so bad, im pretty sure no FF game has ever had loading problems but this one sure has them.
Honestly if those would be fixed and the jump button while picking up treasure, along with harder enemies on new game plus, i would rate the game maybe 7.

The usage of assets, and random product placement like the cup noodles is unneeded and it feels as if the game is a conglomerate of random ads.

The story sucks. It's supposed to be a story of adventure and freedom, yet some of the moments which are supposed to be the most impactful like Noctis's dad being dead just doesn't mean sh!t. He just learns about it from a paper, and that's about it.

The DLC/merchandising practices oh god almighty....
Well the fact that the rest of the episodic DLC arcs got sh!tcanned doesn't help, but the fact that they were episodic is a problem FOR THIS EXACT REASON. Next thing was making important plot/story points either from that anime, the movie, or some other bullsh!t SE decided to do.

Overall this game is a mediocre disappointment with awful practices, and we waited 10 years for this sh!t?

Initially though, and maybe it’s because I’m such a noob to the franchise... I just couldn’t get my head around many (if not all) of the facets to this game.

The story seems to divert you away from the interesting things going on in the narrative, the characters seem very 2 dimensional, the combat just made no sense to me and I just ended up winning battles by hitting attack, the music seemed cheap and ps1-like and the ‘gameplay-loop’ was difficult to ‘find’ (click with. I stuck with it though as if Covid-19 delivered anything it delivered time and most if not all of my concerns were at least somewhat turned around. The narrative does eventually take you to more interesting places thematically, I found myself almost liking spending time with the 4 main characters and listening to their interactions. The combat is far from perfect but I did start to gain a better understanding of it and it’s ‘okay’. The various tunes get stuck in your head when you’re not playing and the next time you hear them in-game they strike a chord. And the gameplay-loop... it’s there... and it ain’t bad once you understand it.

Decent package altogether and now I’ll play another Final Fantasy game (probably VII Remake) without any reservations.

edit. So I did go on to earn the Platinum and the game (& characters) continued to grow on me. I actually ended up really enjoying it... and the fight against the super boss 'Omega' will live with me for many a year.

This game had a troubled development and skipped a lot of stuff like leaving behind turn based and how Luna didn't have any character development one of the not as good ones in the series but it still beats a lot of stuff other companies char out a yearly based like fifa, nba or cod

The combat, the story, the characters, the open world, the game, is absolutely everything! When I started the game, I never stopped because it got me hooked! This game is one of my favorites. The story is remarkable, the open world is extraordinary, and the characters are awesome. This is one of the most outstanding JRPG games I've ever played.

This is the Sonic '06 of Final Fantasy games, and I'll list why:

    - The world and town/rest spot NPCs feel like they don't fit the Final Fantasy universe, they are very KKona, and look incredibly generic - Combat is very hard to see, too much FX, can't properly see enemy moves to counter no matter which camera options I use, enemy attacks are not choreographed well, and they're
This is the Sonic '06 of Final Fantasy games, and I'll list why:

    - The world and town/rest spot NPCs feel like they don't fit the Final Fantasy universe, they are very KKona, and look incredibly generic

    - Combat is very hard to see, too much FX, can't properly see enemy moves to counter no matter which camera options I use, enemy attacks are not choreographed well, and they're especially bad when there's plenty of enemies

    - Magic system is horrible, no healing, status spells, feels even worse than FF8 drawing spots, much more sparse, and aiming magic feels bad

    - Open world is mostly void of anything of value, and a complete waste of time

    - Character's movements when they are talking look incredibly awkward

    - Ignis and Prompto are some of the worst and most annoying teammates ever

    - Only get gil from hunts, and hunts feel much worse than FF12 hunts do (could be different in future chapters)

    - Caves and tombs are completely out in the open, not in some faraway, beautiful, mystical area with puzzle(s) and great loot like in other Final Fantasies, so it just feels off, like they just put them in random, unfit places

    - Bad dialogue half the time, makes you roll your eyes

    - Way too much boring fetch-quests are thrown at you

    - Blocking system is abysmal, you have to be incredibly precise, so it just feels like it doesn't work sometimes despite me holding block and having MP

    - Lack of its own memorable music, which is sad because that is one of the main things I look forward to in a Final Fantasy game

    - Royal arms feel bad to use, since they take away health as you use them, but you want to have them assigned to shortcuts to get the stat benefits from them so you're left with 1-2 weapons to deal with the enemies, but each enemy has different weapon weaknesses so, ugh...

    - Ascension is generally worse than previous game's skill trees/license board/etc, just feels like a bunch of things jumbled together a lot of them useless, or of little value.

    - Characters react to negative story situations in a really unnatural way

    - There is judder on 'High' graphics mode, even on PS5, and the game looks bad on 'Lite'

    - You have to watch or buy DLC to get proper introductions to your teammates but, even then, their stories and how their connected to Noctis are bad

    - You have to watch Heavensward movie to get a proper explanation of what happens in the beginning of the game, which I did when it came out, I also bought the game and season pass, but could never get into it no matter how many times I tried over the years because the first few chapters always made me quit the game, now I've gotten further on PS5 because the load times are much better and performance is improved.

    * Keep in mind I stopped at chapter 7, I think FF7 to even 13-2 are much better than this game, and I make the comparison to Sonic '06 because this game just feels like a jumble of things that don't fit together.

I went over all the negatives, so here's the positives:

    - Monsters look good

    - Summons, they feel good to use and look great

    - Chocobos

    - Ardyn (at least so far) but even his charms couldn't keep me playing

Game looks great but the story is very disjointed never really making sense and making it hard to care for the characters or the story. Visuals are all... Gameplay is somewhat fun but you never really understand how to play as the game does poorly at teaching you. It's not really open world .. it's a quasi-open world game

A lot of repetition of meshes is used and many parts of the game just dealt stale. Graphically this game is very nice but the combat is very linear. I don't think I've ever been so happy with a game just to have it turn on a dime.

This game in the first few chapters was excellent. Up through chapter 3 or 4 or so. Truly great. But in its greatness, it was kind of like season 1 of Lost, where it opens up this great intrigue that you think will at some point be answered. But it just never is. The game remains good, at times great, up until chapter 9 or so. But it goes from great to awful the second you step on the train. I don't know what the developers of this were thinking, but I've literally never seen a game take such a turn. I'd give this a ten until chapter 4, chapters 5-9 probably an 8 or maybe a 9, and chapters 10-13 a 1. Just unenjoyable nonsense that I stopped playing (apparently) an hour or two before the end.

The last good Final Fantasy was put out almost 20 years ago. Gotta wonder if the series is just dead at this point.

All the selling points from Versus13 have been cut out, a lot of CG scenes and trailer locations have been cut out, and the post launch support is very disjointed - making it impossible to experience the whole story without resorting to external sources of media (movie, anime, comics, light novels, mobile games, demos, VR games etc). The other issue is that characters outside the main four lack development or motivation explanations. The second half of the game was also meant to be open world, but tight development deadlines resulted in lots of cut content. Lastly the visuals, while great in some parts, have been downgraded from the build of the game we saw in trailers and demos. So despite the mindless grind being kinda fun for a while, the rushed and weak story, cut content, and inability to have the entire lore of this world confined to the game disc makes this game a below average experience as far as other video games and especially other Final Fantasies go. 6/10 Expand

My big problem is the story! The whole world is not fleshed out right, feels empty, none of the NPCs care about what is going on at all. The plot is shallow and makes little sense. We get no back story for most characters, the bare minimum for others. The villain is mediocre at best. The ending was a big disappointment, as well.
I hope with the next FF they will focus on the story and characters again, instead of the open world feature.

Also the combat did have some issues and the story felt a bit short. However, what this game had going for it was the open world. I spent almost 20 hours if not more just running around in Lucis fishing, doing side quests, finding new dialogue, exploring every inch and finding cool stuff. All the character building came from just hanging out in the open world camping, doing and finding little quests, dungeons, practice fighting with Arenea and the bros, watching the pictures at the end of every day, etc. I spent almost 60 hours experiencing every inch of this game and I loved it. The story itself I found to be very impactful and beautiful. Great music, excellent graphics and environment design, and fun mechanics and things to explore. Pros
    -action fighting style
    -vast Open world enviroenment
    -Cool map design

    Cons:
-lackluster story(for ff fans, just know that its a disaster)
-too much effort for less reward on quests
    -too many sidequests(boring repeating ones)
-the flying ship is total cancer since you have to reload the game
    -loading times are insane
    -spam-able bs mechanics
-rpg mechanics dont matter(changing weapond makes no sense cuz the strongest weapon will always be the best one to use)
-combos arent really a thing since your only input is the left stick...so,not a good action combat system.

All in all I wished they would've sticked to the original gameplay and such,it was much more appealing to me and others as well as we see on the amount of negatives here.
Considering that the game made most of its sales within a week after release its probably the hype that sold the game, not the game itself.

Sure the devs worked hard and all but hard work doesnt justify a mediocre product.
They already HAD a good concept on their hands, they could've just used that since it apparently had its content finished writing in 2010.

So yeah...they gave us a worse product even tho a good one already existed. They deserve the negative reviews.

what really concerns me is from the way story told,it gave me a vibe:

    1. that there's only 2 country in the whole planet(i know there's more but they didn;t tell much about it and they didn't state their stand in this war between nifflheim and noctis' country)

2.they have modern technology, they even have smartphone, camera and radio...how come the news didn't spread around the world and another country condemned Nifflheim?

    3.how come there's no United Nation-like organization?

    4. there's no history about civilization of these country in FF 15 (don;t tell me something like " play the DLC" i'm talking about the main game,if it need dlc just to explain the plot holes, then it's a failed game (story-wise at least),no doubt)

5.they sacfrice the story for the expansive open world and "other stuff",please,it's far better if you limit the open world stuff and add more to the story,if i want to play "Wasteland Open world game" i'll play fallout instead.

6.they should take example on FF XII or Trails Series on how to make more real Political problem as the main story.

7.FF XV Story is too shallow,it's really lacking in depth. they don't really put attention to the small detail of the story.as i said in the beginning,if a smal detail executed rightly,it could add more to the universe of FF XV and people can more relate to the story

The consent of calling down the gods is bad*** in the story until you realize the option to do it comes up so often in battle you don’t even need to fight sometimes and should have just been a cutscene only thing, and your friends become real jerks near the end and most of their plots are in DLC.

The gameplay is mostly just fetch quests that require you to spend time walking through empty, brown landscapes to get an item or kill a monster and come back. If the battles were better it would be more forgiving but it is most just getting out of dodge to heal, mashing X, and repeating.

Yeah the music and graphics are good, but if you are just playing for those then just go watch a movie instead.

The story here is pretty interesting and is complemented well by the movie Kingsglaive. Nothing overly engrossing, but it does set a good stage for our 'boy band' hero's on their road trip around the countryside. And that is the element that's the big draw, the adventure and relationships between the four mates.
The visuals and art design are great. Although, playing it on the original PS4 did come with plenty of frame drop issues. Especially in the built up towns within the open world. And of course the music is exceptional, meeting the standards of any Final Fantasy title (you can even unlock a lot of old tracks from previous FF games).

The game-play is what really won me over with this one. The adventuring and exploration is great, full of monsters to kill and treasures to harvest! The new action based combat is a lot of fun with a great feel to it. Of course, just like most, the biggest criticism is the magic. Mostly because of the friendly fire that all spells can cause. And like most comments, it's not a big deal because you can breeze through the game without using a single spell.

I could go on and on about the vast amount of content that is on offer, such as the fishing and the cooking and the chocobos etc etc. But what I must highlight is the opening statement before the title screen “A Final Fantasy for old fans and newcomers”. This FF really does strike a great balance to please the wider audience in the best way.

Awful story badly told. Character depth an interaction is very poor. All NPCs are essentially the same lifeless person. The world is empty and boring. Most of the towns also look identical to each other. This game feels more like a pre-alpha version or a game that should be out 20 years ago. Combat system is fun only if there's one enemy involved and only if the battle takes place in a completely open space; otherwise it's a mess you can't follow, if you are luck enough to not have your view completely blocked by surroundings. All side quests are essentially "go collect ths resource for me or go kill this thing for me for no apparent reason". Also looking around to a specified area to collect random hidden stuff is no fun at all, and it happens way more often than one would expect. You know this is a bad game when its best aspect is how good the food looks, and it's best story part is a crossover non-canon mission inspired by a mobile phone game. Expand

I wish I could give half score, then my score would be 9.5, but my criticisms aren't enough to give it a 9.

But this game, the AI system between the 4 main characters is so wonderful. It feels like you are truly seeing 4 guys on the road, bantering and laughing and becoming family. The story has some issues, and that's my main reason for the lack of .5 score. The reasoning of the gods is confusing, why they needed to curse Ardyn, why Noctis needed to die to save Ardyn... it's rather nonsensical, but I believe that's a holdover from Tetsuya Nomura... who is known for that.
My biggest issue lies in Luna, she is under utilized and the things she does for the story and Noctis are downplayed. She is the one who even got the gods to give Noctis their powers, she went around the world healing people, she even tried to save Ardyn, and yet the story barely focuses on her and greatly suffers for it.
But again, that disrespect for female characters seems to be a hold over from tetsuya nomura's style as can be seen in KH and FF7R.

The game design, and character development is so good among Noctis, Ignis, Gladio and Prompto however, that you can easily drop 400 hour sin this game and still have fun.

Square Enix released many trailer try to fake an epic adventure of a fallen kingdom's prince to reclaim his throne though a journey with his 3 friends by fishing, playing mobile games, take photos, sit down and relax while Ignis cook some delicious nice looking food. Repetitive side quest ask you to revisit the dungeon to kill the same monster again which you already did the job during the main storyline. The combat is fast paced and fun, but the auto attack spam button to win mechanics and magic system is pretty **** And lots of unnecessary long dungeon which try to extend the gameplay hours as long as possible to fake the game worth its extremely long development time of 10 years. No character development for supporting character in the story like Cor, Aranea, Luna and even survivors of Lucis etc, what a waste for good character design in visual. After finished the game and watched the prequel movie Kingsglaive, and realized they cut pretty much content that contains much more potential and it's the video editing and music faked the sense of epic they shown in the trailer. Which is the reason why we so hype for this long awaited Final Fantasy game. Square Enix nowadays just can't deliver their promise, a perfect example of what you see and what you actually get in the negative side, just like FFVII Remake which they promised a Remake and at the end it is a sequel. i love the fact that you need to farm crystals to cast magic and that when you cast it you should be aware not to affect yourself or your teammates however, every time you need to craft your magic and there's limited amount you can use before crafting new ones. Summons are just completely random, at times a cut scene pf the summon will be activated and u get the damage. Normal game play is also boring. Parrying doesn't work always.it says press O but its hold and there's still a case it wont work. Noctus has a unique playing style but its gets boring and annoying , the fact that you use a blade and then forced to change and get a new one its annoying . Fishing camping and driving are there/ optional BUT only re fun in the beginning. Also Never Ever adventure during the night otherwise you re dead

The world itself was gorgeous and when you first go to Altissia, the view is nothing less than sublime. The orchestral scores and piano pieces, as well as the fantastic cover of 'Stand by Me' by Florence + The Machine from Ben E. King's classic, was great too.
While the characters outside of Noctis and Ardyn could do with some fleshing out, the intriguing destiny the two shares helped me to overlook the weaker side characters. The story explores the prophecy of Noctis and while there are moments when it is incoherent, the simple grandeur of the tale made me love XV.

They say that your first Final Fantasy is always your best, and while I've still got more Final Fantasies to explore, I can confidently say that XV will always be a special one for me, as it was my definitive gaming experience.

Final Fantasy XV is a solid game. However, it has some glaring issues. The combat is clunky, and very chaotic. There is no strategy in the combat system, as with older FF games. It is inferior and takes away a very enjoyable element of FF of old. And the summoning is awful. You must meet a oddly specific set of scenarios for you to summon. Very lame, and bad idea.

The Regalia is more of a nuisance than anything else. Driving is boring, and cumbersome. Noctis is a enjoyable character, and his supporting cast is decent. But fairly forgettable.

All in all, FF XV is solid but left me yearning for FF of old. If FF continues in this hack and slash direction, I'll sadly have to leave the franchise for good

Not the best in series but quite fun, the story is a mess and also the combat system, but it has some things that makes it a good game =)

Phenomenal game with great story and gameplay , I’m glad I didn’t listen to some of the bad reviews this game was amazing and I was so lucky game pass had this on their selection. Very emotional at end and thought about it for weeks.

A really good final fantasy title. The open world is huge and the graphics are amazing. The soundtrack is more than amazing. Its the first title where i had to buy the soundtrack actually.

The gameplay feels good, but the camera can get pretty messy sometimes. The downside of the open world was the driving. It feels restrictive and boring. The story is pretty pretty good, but i can

The story is pretty pretty good, but i can see why some people dislike it. It wasnt helpful that all the DLC stuff wasnt in the game from the beginning, so it felt like you really are missing some story bits.

Nevertheless i really enjoyed playing it.

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
