Camera angles are, horrible. Allies block you from going into places and you cant move them or go through them and they also get lost while doing some dungeons because the creators clearly didn't care about Final Fantasy fans when they made this game. Lost all of my respect for Square Enix.

-battle system is terrible all you do is hit a button no strategy
-you have to try to die to die it's way to easy not rewarding one bit
-you can live on regular potions don't need elixirs etc to make it thru any battle
-boring filler side quests unrelated to the story

there was a day when a side quest or two was for something that really helped you beat a game and now you can feed a cat and gain a level.this game is terrible and I could not wait for it to end.wait for persona 5 is you like rpgs or play lufia 2 or chrono trigger....don't waste your life on this .

Compared to older FF games do a quest and you'll receive a well needed accessory or weapon. In FF XV you'll receive like a hi-potion or a megalixir for example. I'm not fighting a level 99 monster (and I really like to fight optional bosses) just to be rewarded some BS. I did not like the ending boss fight at all. It didn't feel like a boss fight whatsoever. There was just no challenge to it. There are summons called Astrals that, unlike other FF games, you cannot summon whenever you want. They only appear for you when they, the Astrals, deem it necessary. Now to level up you have to rest at a hotel, motel, or camp site to accumulate all of your EXP which i hate! If you don't do any of those things you will not level up. The openworld didn't feel like an openworld to me either. I couldn't just go anywhere I wanted like you can in GTA. When I hear "openworld" GTA comes to mind. Those are my personal issues with this game. So in the end this game is great, good, or bad. It's just an "ok" game. My opinion is to wait for a price drop. After some rocky development years, Final Fantasy is finally back. I've been a huge Final Fantasy fan since I was 10, and it is my pleasure to say that this game truly has everything a Final Fantasy should have. We should go part by part.

    Gameplay
FFXV is no longer turn-based. Bummer. But, Square Enix has experience with ARPGs, and this game's combat system is amazing. You'll soon learn enemy's weakness to certain weapon types and magical elements. AI is great, your allies will always know what to do and when to do it.
    Exploration divides into three sections.
Walking around the great fields is interesting, but can be tedious, and walking in towns is rather fun, but slow.
You can divide the car in two opinions. If you let Ignis drive, the Regalia can be a fun and chilling experience, as you just lay down a while and take a view at the amazing landscapes, while listening to your favorite FF classics! BUT. If you decide to drive, Oh boy! Driving is tedious and it takes you by the hand. It's not fun.
And then there are the chocobos. They are the best! You can easily get to your destinations in the wild. And they help you out in battle too!
The progression system reminds me a bit of FFX. You progress in diferent astral maps, dedicated to certain aspects of the game, like combat, abilities, exploration, magic, etc. You progress trough this buying skills with AP, which is kinda hard to get.
Magic works kinda weird. You prepare spells mixing energy from the three main elements and an item. At the beginning it is hard, but you will learn quickly.
    Soundtrack
The soundtrack is perfect. Besides being able to buy classic FF soundtracks, the soundtrack is huge.
When battling, you'll feel energized. Boss battles and hunt battles don't share themes, so every battle theme is way diferent.
While exploring, the songs will remind you of Terra's theme and sorts.

    Graphics
This... is not that good. Characters look nice, and landscapes near to you look okay. But at the distance, it just looks... wrong. Hell, FFXIII looked even better.

    Story
I left this at the end because this is where the biggest problem is.
The main characters are awesome. It's not just a prince and his bodyguards, it's a prince and his friends.
Supportive characters feel underused, as they appear, say "see ya" and never come back.
The worst is Luna. She is interesting and all, but she has little to no screen-time.
The main villain is actually pretty interesting.
The story is cool and well written, but it all falls down at Chapter 10, and Chapter 13 is a true mess...
Suddenly, things start happening off screen, main characters suddenly disappear, and it just feels wrong.
At the end, it all comes together in an interesting way, so it's not disappointing.

Overall, Final Fantasy XV is a great experience, with just minor problems here and there. You'll get at the very least 30 good hours of gameplay. And I'm so excited for the DLCs, I already got the Season Pass.

There is fast travel (for the arbitrary fee of 10 gil) but the loading times can take just as much time as the auto pilot so theres no point to it.Most of the time the hunt fight itself would last even less than the drive it took or fast travel loading screen to get there. Then you'd have to auto pilot back another 1 to 5 minutes. Instead of stacking hunt quests and running from hunt to hunt, clearing the region in one clean satisfying sweep, the back and forth just wastes so much time. There's a lot of other similar things that just waste your time in the game. This is the reason why people have so many hours in the game, because half of it was spent idle, not doing anything but waiting to get to your destination. Expand

The combat system is incomprehensible to me, everything happens too fast and feels overly chaotic. I don't feel like I am making choices or that i have any ability to control the combat. I don't see how the game has as good a score as it does. It irks me to no end that I have to manually control the camera.

I came to FFXV with big expectations, mainly because it was promoted like crazy with movies and anime and whatnot, and I had been waiting for it when it was named versus XIII so many years ago. The Omen trailer was also super cool. It ended up not meeting my expectations for an FF game, but was fun overall, and thought it tried its best in the current popular opinion of what seems to be "open world = good, linear = bad."

Some main issues I had: the story was incomplete and the pacing wasn't very good, which is evidenced by the fact that DLC focusing on the specific factors will be released. Although there was a clear main purpose through the game, there was more room to relax and explore in the first half while the story picks up greatly and goes to a linear format in the second half. It seemed like this huge open world was created, but then the developers were like "oh crap we need a story." The open world in itself was not very exciting, and contributed to the long loading times. Although the side quests yielded benefits like experience and perhaps a helpful item, they became tedious if I tried to clear them all before progressing onto the main story - which is what I usually do with FF games but couldn't do with this one because of the tediousness. The women of the game weren't too inspiring save for one though she only joins you for a moment, though I suppose the spotlight is to be mostly put on the four main male characters.

The good: of course the graphics are amazing, the character design is top notch. When I look at these characters, I know they are FF characters which is comforting as a long-time fan of the series. The environments besides the vast, deserty one in the beginning in the game were pleasing. What was there of the story was nice, I found myself getting attached to the characters towards the end, but still think it had the potential to be a MUCH better story if so much focus wasn't put on more superficial aspects of the game. The fighting was really fun. I didn't experiment too much with the different weapons offered for Noctis, honestly, as there did not seem to much of a strategic rationale to use one over the other, but they were nice to have. I liked how the particular skills of the main characters (fishing, cooking, photos, and exploring) were used to benefit the characters in a tangible way. I also loved how you could collect music from previous FF games to play in the car, nostalgia incorporated in a very nice way. I played the game in Japanese to augment my Japanese learning, and it was top notch, though what I heard of the English seemed good as well.

I would ideally give this a 7.5 if I could choose between a 7 and an 8. If you are a flexible FF fan, which I suppose you have to be with the game design changes this series has gone through, you might enjoy this game. In the end, I am glad I played it, though I am not sure if I would have played this if it wasn't an FF game. I am not sure how the open world aspect of the game compares with others, but I would not get this game just because it is open world if that is what you like as you would be disappointed by the second half. I am glad they are coming out with new DLC episodes for each of the characters, hopefully that'll help the story a bit. Though I wish the developers could have taken a bit more time (i know they took 10 years but an extra year wouldn't have affected the agony of the wait much) to tighten up the story and incorporate the open world better. I know FF13 had complaints about linearity, but wow what a 360 difference implemented in an imperfect way.

Overall, definitely not my favorite FF game, but enjoyable in the end. Looking forward to see what the DLC adds!

    Pros:
-I found the hack and slash combat refreshing compared to turn-based
-Great voice-acting for the majority of the cast (English)
-Character interaction is great and the team really feels like they're travelling with you. Loved how team members exchange interactions in the car while driving, call out if you get hit, comment on your actions such as trying to open a clearly locked door for the third time, sit around the camp site together etc. The details make them feel alive in their own rights.
-Beautifully animated. Some of the scenes just came alive. Locations were beautiful too.
-Lots of colossal, interesting creatures to fight.
-Some great novel ideas, although some don't pay off.
-The addition of the open-world and side quests was a great move in my opinion.
-I enjoyed the details in the world around me, you could immerse yourself quite easily. Would have been great if there were more areas.
-Really enjoyed the characters (although sometimes comically emo or bratty, I kind of found this endearing and laughed it off. There was enough for me to find each of them likable).

    Cons:
-Chapters 13 onwards. One extremely long and tedious mission where you are stripped of your weapons. This is where it went downhill for me. The mission was like a brand new game with attempts at stealth and otherwise pointless fetch quests to find 'keys to the next door' essentially.
-Combat is almost too easy at times. I walked the earth with a pocket full of Phoenix Downs (used to revive you from the dead), and never even needed them.
-Would've been cool if you could switch up the members of your team. You do get new 'fill in characters' on occasion, but you can't dictate this, and they often don't contribute much anyway.
-Travelling was a mission. Contrary to what some reviewers are saying, an auto-travel option does exist. It's just so specific, I only figured it out midway through the game.
-The story was far too short. I was surprised to discover I had finished the game abruptly 15 chapters in.

    Overall:

Oddly enough, the flaws of this game are not enough to make me regret having played it. Quite the contrary, it;s pretty addictive. I found running around in the open world post-plot a lot of fun.

This fantasy is awesome, but has some weak points. There are obvious problems in the storytelling because of cuts(luck of time in development).
But there are so many different emotions in its 20-25 hour main story so it's hard to find something this heart-touching. The fighting system is amazing, the world is amazing, characters are amazing (especially Ardyn with his malicious voice)!

I always give Square credit for reinventing the numbered installments of Final Fantasy from the ground up, and at best, they are some of the greatest RPGs ever (7 and 10) and at worst, are serviceable (FF13). Final Fantasy 15 fails at every level of what I find enjoyable about a Final Fantasy.

Let’s start with positives, the graphics are insanely good. It’s not QUITE up there with Uncharted 4, though it’s damned close, and the entire world is interactive. It is nothing short of fantastic that you can see clear across an entire valley, and see monsters roaming around by the base of a mountain, which you can then engage in combat.

Combat starts out strong, then fades quite quickly. If you’ve played Kingdom Hearts, you will feel right at home with the combat system. Dodging and jumping through the air to attack is a lot of fun, and some of the graphical elements lead to some interesting encounters, that left me breathless at the end, proud of my skills. From a strategic side of things, each battle has a ‘rinse-and-repeat’ feel, as upon engaging enemies, you simply scan, change weapons and magic accordingly, and hold circle for the win. The game never really offers a unique approach to combat, nor does it make me think. Combat more of a hack-n-slash endeavor, rather than a thoughtful approach to besting a tough enemy. There are plenty of games that do a better job of this, and sometimes I felt FF 15 drew too much from God of War.

I found the characters to be absolutely bland, unrelatable and more of a bane than a band of brothers. At no point is there any interesting dialogue between them, never do we learn more about them in a meaningful way and throughout the game the same quips and phrases are used ad nauseam. There are moments during the camping sequences (which are completely optional for whatever reason), where we might learn a nugget or two about the characters and their pasts, and it still seems like candy coating to an empty shell. Usually, each character represents something specific and brings a certain personality to the table, here it feels as if the characters are supposed to be different sides of the main protagonist’s personality. While I do not condemn this approach, empty characters usually lead to an empty story.

There is nothing interesting about the story up to the completion of chapter 9 (of 15). We haven’t learned about any motives, where people came from, why they are who they are, why we give a crap about the people in the game or why we should continue playing. None of the side quests give any additional depth of vision into the characters. The argument is “quests in jRPGs are usually completely unrelated to story” which I can buy. In Xenoblade, much like FF 15, it was fetch quest after fetch quest as well as protection quest on top of protection quest. My comeback is in every previous installment of FF I’ve played, the side quests give depth and fill in blanks for character development. Jecht spheres, the submarine quests in FF7, even getting ultimate weapons shed light on characters. As one of my friends put it, ‘If any of the main characters were to die and be replaced, I wouldn’t notice’, and the characters feel more like extras as opposed to major players in a grand quest.

Lastly, the gameplay has some MAJOR “quality of life” issues. Simply getting around is a chore. I will again refer to Xenoblade in that you are exploring a beautiful open-world in a sweeping setting. However in Xenoblade, you are running around at Mach 5 and can jump 25 feet high, experiencing no fall damage even when plummeting hundreds of feet. In FF 15, I truly feel as if I am running, and when something is .25 miles away, it can take well over a minute or 2 to get there. Some respite is provided when riding a chocobo, which can be cumbersome as well. Exploration is just not done well. When I see something shiny off in the distance, I have to measure the pros and cons. It COULD be this ultimately useful item and it will PROBABLY be a potion, and it will NEVER been a compelling optional quest. In all cases, it will be a 5-minute round trip or more. Navigation, is sub-par to say the least.

Bottom line, as a longtime fan of the series, I can’t recommend this game. If you want open world jRPG play something else (like Xenoblade!) If you want to do lots of quests with infinite depth, play Witcher 3! If you want to play FF, play a previous installment, or wait for the FF7 Remake. The final slap in the face is at the boot up every time you play Final Fantasy 15 the game says that it is a Final Fantasy for new players and longtime fans, when nothing could be further from the truth. Avoid this game, and expect more next time...

    Why 5 then?
    - Combat system works at first and is quite impressive (very dynamic, flashy). However magic is poorly designed and it's all kind of messy and gets repetitive after a while.
    - Music is great.
    - Roadtrip bromance kind of work and is refreshing.

Do not buy that, go play 30$ The Witcher 3 GOTY Edition instead. It offers a far superior open world experience.

Also the music when ur riding the bird is so annoying. It's an average game so it deserves a big dirty 6/10

In January I gave this game a 4/10 for some things but after looking at the positive reviews of the User Score I see that people need to think better of why this game is the Biggest disappointment in Final Fantasy History

Gameplay/Combat: The gameplay of FFXV has become more watered down (and its crazy these are the guys who did the gameplay combat for KH1 and 2) having to only press square or hold to dodge and block and Circle to attack and X to warp strike is fun at first but then doing it over and over again is quite boring especially when the game packs you with Healing items a lot also the enemies mainly stand there and attack randomly also it lack indepth and strategy compared to older FF's 90% of the time even bosses sure there are different weapons you can use in combat but very few are situational. Having team mates to help you is quite random sometimes they help and sometimes they don't , but in our Experience they die 98% of the time MAINLY against bosses with either higher level or lower level (and also to mention that the leveling system is unbalanced with low level enemies can still wreck you at a ton of damage even at LV 99 which is not good balancing) MP or Magic is not what it used to be MP is replaced with your warp strike which is exploitable (you can get up to 200mp Warp strike uses 5-10mp than any other ARPG there are 3 Magic Fire, Lightning, and Ice which are not very good crafting them is such a grind and there are barley any enemies that are weak to magic just use weapons with the magic element overall magic is pretty poor even you're team abilities are better and not having to control you're party member until DLC is a painful attempt to expand their game season pass is 30$ it almost feels like SFV again.

Story/Characters: The story of Final Fantasy 15 is the shortest and weakest up to date continuing the downside of FF13 it suffers a Kingdom Hearts Syndrome where you are force to watch the Anime brotherhood and the movie Kingslieve in order to know what's going on like in KH you have to play all the spinoffs to tie the story of KH together. The characters are likeable at first but you can easily tell that they try too hard for you to get attached to the 4 men Noctis,Promto,Ignis, and Galdius where they have little to no back story of how they meet each other (It was never seen in brotherhood) nor did they grew as the story progress PLZ Tales of Berseria (though I wasn't super hyped and had good graphics) had a much better story and character development between Velvet and her party members about how they help her get revenge on Artorious and how Velvet and the others have to face the truths and betrayls and challenges in their hard lifes while still not giving up on each other they may not be Heroe's but it was still awesome that's the development FFXV is missing the Character Development is bland in here they act a bit EMO on the train cutscenes. The Story can be completed in less than 20 hours wow Square congrats

Content: Usually RPG's would have unique content here in there but in FFXV case its not FFXV has nothing but fetch quest worst than Lightning returns at east in that game there was some fun and character development with side characters only here its basically go get some forgs meet the science lady again pick up some frogs meet her again then pick ups some more frogs ok that can't be too bad oh meet a guy and he tells you pick up some dog tags... :o ok get some repair kits to help people stuck on the road get potions to help injured people it gets repetitive over time. This is why I prefer the Yakuza series with its side content at least you can have fun make a laugh and have emotions to the people you help in the city better than go collect things just because... OPEN World is barren meaning there aren't much citys and the gas stations look pretty much the same and its mostly empty.

Final Verdict: Compared to FFIX that I played and liked before FFXV came out and the 2,003 users and counting praising this game and saying that this is a masterpiece and GOTY should do better research and look what Final Fantasy truly is and not be a fanboy I give FFXV a 2/10 with the cheap DLC packs in order to save this broken glitch mess of the game I think Tabata should learn better and so does the SE defense force you know who they are.

FF15 combat is uninspired and quickly becomes boring, baiscly pushing a button over and over.
Holding circle or square to win every fight, and the magic system is so boring.
Changing weapons doesnt do much either.

The characters are uninteresting and sotryling isnt much better.

Im scared what SE is gonna do with FF7 Remake if they use this as the measurement.

Basically the first half of this game is amazing, but the second half is total garbage. Also the mechanics are not good when put under scrutiny. Ultimately, I had a blast with approximately half of the game, but had the worst time with the other half.

what a buggy hell of a mess.... not just the jaw dropping amount of bugs the character design is bad and camera is basically broken for all boss fights. some design choices feel like they are punishing players on purpose.. what happened??????

I expected more from 10 years. I liked it in the start but it quickly went down hill, the side quests are MMORPGish in deapth (run there and get me this), the main story is messy and boring, I get teary-eyed from dog videos on facebook, stuff in this game meant to move you doesn't move you an inch. Update: I lied, I had not cleared the game when I posted the update, but though the game could not disappoint me any more than it did, oh was I wrong. Messy story, does not move me an inch (i shed a tear over puppy videos on youtube), just a bad, bad game. I like japanese games, the Tales series are fun, I like close to cringey japanese story moments in anime and games, I like MMO quests to a certain degree, but FFXV just doesn't do it for me. The game quickly funnels into a linear nightmare towards the last quater of the game, and here the nightmarish mess that is the combat camera becomes clear. According to the amount of praise this game gets it seems I just don't like Final Fantasy any longer, my love for the franchise died with FFX.

    - Storytelling is horrific
    - AI is not particularly good
    - Very very frontloaded, the open world does not last, leaving the game feeling rushed.
    - It opens more questions than it answers
    - The villain's motives seem very tacked on
    - The build up to the imperial threat just sort of waned out
    - Ignis and Prompto might as well be suicidal, they just stand in everything like idiots.
    - Levels feel like they mean nothing.
    - A lot of content feels like it's missing, like it's going to come as paid DLC.

This is a good game, and I expect anyone will have fun playing it, but do expect to be frustrated it can be very vexing at times.

The enemies attack to much, you can barely connect a combo.
I think there is no salvation to squareenix. Wasted too many time with graphics, forgot everything else.

It was cut off from most important things and included some unthinkable game design. You need to see the movie and TV-show, interviews and fan fiction plot analysis from people who love this franchise to have that story because in the game, there is not very much, even the Noctis friends back stories was not told.

Sadly, about a month of its release, i kind of wish of remake of this game in such way it should have been done. When developers say that they could dlc some of plot content, it may sound suspicious for people who have not played this game, but this game is designed to be such it might work.

Final Fantasy title is something developers should not use excuses to cut off from content and story just for that reason they does not have skills or time to do this or that. FF13 was miserable attempt, FF14 was so bad they had to do whole game again, FF15 is great. Positive side is if it takes 10 years to make a new game, they can achieve this title's former glory only in about 40-80 years.

Sakagutchi worked hard to achieve Final Fantasy greatness and was the one who had enough honor and ambition to push up game completely made to match its original vision. Title was known for thrilling and cleverly made scenes and they had all potential to add such scenes in FF15 but maybe they all was cut off.

Game developers should also respect the time what people use in these games because people nowadays have very less free time. Pointless fetch quests what are designed to be possible time consuming (drive around, loading screens if fast travel, you only can have one hunt active at the time). Every time you return side quest you have this feeling let this be the last one.

It's clear that much of what made it into FFXV was repurposed from its original intention, and as a result the story comes off disjointed and vague. Still, fans will find much to enjoy in this entry, from some beautiful music and character/creature design and a huge open world with plenty of silly things to do with your bros.

Ultimately the decision to move away from a dark tale of an angsty prince reclaiming his kingdom might have been a blessing for us all, because what we get instead is a simple meditation on friendship. It's endearing in spite of itself and I did enjoy the voice acting of the villain quite a bit. Most importantly, the colorful nature of the open world and the attention to detail show Square Enix knows how to put some heart and levity into a game, something they've been having trouble with for quite some time.

Hopefully, we get a more focused, well-rounded entry the next time around. I'm definitely still a fan through and through.

Pros: The scale of the game brings awe at times. The world is gigantic. There is a real "bro roadtrip" feel to the game. Combat is deeper than it originally seems.

Cons: The worst sidequests you can find in games. One is literally to run to a guys farm across the world, pick up like a single pea, and go back to turn it in. That isn't even the real problem though, many games can have this sort of thing.

The real problem is what all of the sidequests amount to: Pick up quest, return to car, fast travel to nearest parking spot, run to quest, kill/pick up single thing, fast travel back to car, fast travel back to hub to turn in. "Fast travel" is codeword for minute long loadscreen. Half your time is spent loading. Weak sidequests can be tolerable when you are pushing towards progression, but when you factor in all the extra wasted time, it becomes misery.

That would be fine if the game just had serious flaws around its side content, but that is what the bulk of the game actually is. The main story is fractured, messy, and not particularly compelling (despite having so much potential), and is actually quite short compared to FF standards. Its all the extra activities that are supposed to make the game what it is.

This leaves a game with a ton of content, but a significant portion that isn't fun to do. Either due to it being shallow and/or the obstacles in place that hinder you from moving as swiftly as you would like.

There are some enjoyable dungeons, and some post-game stuff that fares better, but for the most part I found myself perpetually let down.

I can't help but think back to FFXIII's valid criticisms of linearity. This game is the complete opposite of that, to the other extreme, and with a whole new set of problems that unfortunately weren't addressed.

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
