When me and my friend finished this game...we were like, OMG that was a masterpiece!!! Noctis will be remembered as an amazing character, he reallt feels like a main role. Everything else is great too, battles, game mechanix abilities are really interesting. This game is damn beautiful too. It is a beautiful game, I was blown away by the ending. It is a great new-gen experience. It also got me to a point - nowadays games are HUGE you should just enjoy every bit of it. Again Just my opinion and I respect what everybody else thinks, neither good or bad about it. Thanks Expand

As a new comer to the series I really enjoyed Final Fantasy XV. I've been gaming since the 80's and played many RPG's, but could never get into the FF series. I've enjoyed many turn based JRPG's and now I think about it, regret not playing the older FF games so I''ll be sure to play them, starting with the remake of FF7 on PS4.

Anyway, I bought the game in a sale and thought I'd give it a go and got hooked within the first hour. The game world is stunning, it blends reality with fiction beautifully. It's a really great cross over to have real world shops, hotels, houses, restaurants, towns and resorts blended with fantasy landscapes and creatures. I love how one minute you are in a modern town doing fetch quests for 'normal' looking people and the next in the middle of a battle with a giant beast surrounded by surreal landscapes.

Quests are varied enough to keep you occupied. The main story is not particularly deep but is interesting enough to keep you playing. A few have complained about story and I presume they are hardcore fans who have seen better from the series but as a newcomer I didn't mind. Roaming the world and creating your own unique story through exploration was imo more enjoyable than watching lengthy cutscenes.

The main characters are okay, they do seem a bit dated like earl 00's emo kids and don't really look like royal warriors, but I've played as much more bizarre characters in JRPG's before so it wasn't game breaking. It would have been nice to have a bigger range of costumes that changed the style of the characters so I could make them look better suited to my tastes.

I liked the combat it wasn't perfect but it worked although simple. FF XV is not a hard game and some aspects have been made overly simple but I presume that's to ease in new comers, As someone who understands and has played many RPG's a deeper battle system would have been welcome.

The map is large and your main mode of travel is by car or Chocobo. The car is manual or auto but manual driving doesn't give full control which is annoying. Chocobo however are super fun to run around on.

The graphics look great, character models are good and the environments detailed. Sound is decent and voice acting is reasonable.

I'd definitely recommend this game and look forward to playing past and future FF games.

It feels like I haven't enjoyed a Final Fantasy this much in a long time. XIII disappointed me and worse it became a trilogy. Thankfully it's over so now onto XV! The combat is simple but enjoyable. By the end of the game I was very attached to these boys. More so than I usually get in other Final Fantasy games. Rather than long periods of silence they will make comments throughout on various subjects which makes it feel like you're really on a journey with a group of friends. Its something I hope they include in their next games. Before I forget: make use of the photography functions. It plays a clever role in the end.

Now for the problems. The story kind of feels as if they were rushed. I very much recommend watching the movie and the anime before playing this. It's not ideal but if you skip them you're not getting the full detailed picture in regards to certain plot elements and character backstories. Another issue is the lack of screen-time for the main love interest and heroine Luna. It made it difficult to care about her. While the game excelled in the brotherhood theme not so much for the romance. I didn't expect it to overshadow the friendship aspect but just a bit more of her would have gone a long way to making certain scenes more meaningful.

That about covers it for me. Ultimately I was satisfied with the game and it left me wanting to see more of these characters so I look forward to the character episodes dlc.

This game has its flaws, but it's well worth your time for its scenes alone.

Story: 6/10 Has a good potential, but is badly unwounded. The story picks up in the final few chapters, but for the beginning I really had no idea what they are talking about.
Battle: 3/10 very badly executed. Except for dazzled visuals, there's absolutely No achievement gained after slaying a powerful adversary. All boss fights are extremely boring, basically all you need to do is to attack.
Dungeons: 9/10 I especially like the last imperial base. That dungeons is so long and keeps making people wonder what had happened here. But because of the existence of the ring, there's no challenging passing it.
Extra bonus: +1 road trip feeling, pretty like the yatch travel to Altissa.
    +1 photo system
    +1 people's conversation
+1 a feeling of reality, especially when you walk on train
    +1 beautiful cutscenes
    Negative:

    -1 battle system no variation
-1 Don't like the king's accompanies, many meaningless conversations.

It is one of the best Final Fantasy that I have ever played. The graphics are awesome, the history is interesting and there is a lot, but a lot of secondary missions and the world of the game is really beautiful, with a lot of places and dungeons to explore and items to find in this world. You will probably want to do all the hunts, level up and do all the missions if you start to play it.

The development of the game was a bit rocky, that much is clear, the thing is about the game though is that despite this rough time pre-release when the game came out it wasn't a mess or a disappointment, or even bad in any way, in fact quite the opposite as the game was fun, entertaining and even good. The feeling however was strange because it was still quite rough around the edges with a few little hiccups here and there.

Despite these flaws though the game never really let me down when playing it however, which was the most surprising factor.

Now to be more specific, this game clearly has a lot of love put into it from start to finish and really is a Final Fantasy for first timers and newcomers probably being the closest to the original in terms of feeling since the pre-VII titles. With the story whilst being a bit rushed in the later half still had some very epic and otherwise emotional moments. The characters were some of the most likable characters to have ever been introduced and the world was beautiful from start to finish.

It may not have been perfect, but overall it was a fun ride and isn't that the most you can ask for in a game?

After some rocky development years, Final Fantasy is finally back. I've been a huge Final Fantasy fan since I was 10, and it is my pleasure to say that this game truly has everything a Final Fantasy should have. We should go part by part.

    Gameplay
FFXV is no longer turn-based. Bummer. But, Square Enix has experience with ARPGs, and this game's combat system is amazing. You'll soon learn enemy's weakness to certain weapon types and magical elements. AI is great, your allies will always know what to do and when to do it.
    Exploration divides into three sections.
Walking around the great fields is interesting, but can be tedious, and walking in towns is rather fun, but slow.
You can divide the car in two opinions. If you let Ignis drive, the Regalia can be a fun and chilling experience, as you just lay down a while and take a view at the amazing landscapes, while listening to your favorite FF classics! BUT. If you decide to drive, Oh boy! Driving is tedious and it takes you by the hand. It's not fun.
And then there are the chocobos. They are the best! You can easily get to your destinations in the wild. And they help you out in battle too!
The progression system reminds me a bit of FFX. You progress in diferent astral maps, dedicated to certain aspects of the game, like combat, abilities, exploration, magic, etc. You progress trough this buying skills with AP, which is kinda hard to get.
Magic works kinda weird. You prepare spells mixing energy from the three main elements and an item. At the beginning it is hard, but you will learn quickly.
    Soundtrack
The soundtrack is perfect. Besides being able to buy classic FF soundtracks, the soundtrack is huge.
When battling, you'll feel energized. Boss battles and hunt battles don't share themes, so every battle theme is way diferent.
While exploring, the songs will remind you of Terra's theme and sorts.

    Graphics
This... is not that good. Characters look nice, and landscapes near to you look okay. But at the distance, it just looks... wrong. Hell, FFXIII looked even better.

    Story
I left this at the end because this is where the biggest problem is.
The main characters are awesome. It's not just a prince and his bodyguards, it's a prince and his friends.
Supportive characters feel underused, as they appear, say "see ya" and never come back.
The worst is Luna. She is interesting and all, but she has little to no screen-time.
The main villain is actually pretty interesting.
The story is cool and well written, but it all falls down at Chapter 10, and Chapter 13 is a true mess...
Suddenly, things start happening off screen, main characters suddenly disappear, and it just feels wrong.
At the end, it all comes together in an interesting way, so it's not disappointing.

Overall, Final Fantasy XV is a great experience, with just minor problems here and there. You'll get at the very least 30 good hours of gameplay. And I'm so excited for the DLCs, I already got the Season Pass.

The Omen trailer was also super cool. It ended up not meeting my expectations for an FF game, but was fun overall, and thought it tried its best in the current popular opinion of what seems to be "open world = good, linear = bad."

Some main issues I had: the story was incomplete and the pacing wasn't very good, which is evidenced by the fact that DLC focusing on the specific factors will be released. Although there was a clear main purpose through the game, there was more room to relax and explore in the first half while the story picks up greatly and goes to a linear format in the second half. It seemed like this huge open world was created, but then the developers were like "oh crap we need a story." The open world in itself was not very exciting, and contributed to the long loading times. Although the side quests yielded benefits like experience and perhaps a helpful item, they became tedious if I tried to clear them all before progressing onto the main story - which is what I usually do with FF games but couldn't do with this one because of the tediousness. The women of the game weren't too inspiring save for one though she only joins you for a moment, though I suppose the spotlight is to be mostly put on the four main male characters.

The good: of course the graphics are amazing, the character design is top notch. When I look at these characters, I know they are FF characters which is comforting as a long-time fan of the series. The environments besides the vast, deserty one in the beginning in the game were pleasing. What was there of the story was nice, I found myself getting attached to the characters towards the end, but still think it had the potential to be a MUCH better story if so much focus wasn't put on more superficial aspects of the game. The fighting was really fun. I didn't experiment too much with the different weapons offered for Noctis, honestly, as there did not seem to much of a strategic rationale to use one over the other, but they were nice to have. I liked how the particular skills of the main characters (fishing, cooking, photos, and exploring) were used to benefit the characters in a tangible way. I also loved how you could collect music from previous FF games to play in the car, nostalgia incorporated in a very nice way. I played the game in Japanese to augment my Japanese learning, and it was top notch, though what I heard of the English seemed good as well.

I would ideally give this a 7.5 if I could choose between a 7 and an 8. If you are a flexible FF fan, which I suppose you have to be with the game design changes this series has gone through, you might enjoy this game. In the end, I am glad I played it, though I am not sure if I would have played this if it wasn't an FF game. I am not sure how the open world aspect of the game compares with others, but I would not get this game just because it is open world if that is what you like as you would be disappointed by the second half. I am glad they are coming out with new DLC episodes for each of the characters, hopefully that'll help the story a bit. Though I wish the developers could have taken a bit more time (i know they took 10 years but an extra year wouldn't have affected the agony of the wait much) to tighten up the story and incorporate the open world better. I know FF13 had complaints about linearity, but wow what a 360 difference implemented in an imperfect way.

Overall, definitely not my favorite FF game, but enjoyable in the end. Looking forward to see what the DLC adds!

    Pros:
-I found the hack and slash combat refreshing compared to turn-based
-Great voice-acting for the majority of the cast (English)
-Character interaction is great and the team really feels like they're travelling with you. Loved how team members exchange interactions in the car while driving, call out if you get hit, comment on your actions such as trying to open a clearly locked door for the third time, sit around the camp site together etc. The details make them feel alive in their own rights.
-Beautifully animated. Some of the scenes just came alive. Locations were beautiful too.
-Lots of colossal, interesting creatures to fight.
-Some great novel ideas, although some don't pay off.
-The addition of the open-world and side quests was a great move in my opinion.
-I enjoyed the details in the world around me, you could immerse yourself quite easily. Would have been great if there were more areas.
-Really enjoyed the characters (although sometimes comically emo or bratty, I kind of found this endearing and laughed it off. There was enough for me to find each of them likable).

    Cons:
-Chapters 13 onwards. One extremely long and tedious mission where you are stripped of your weapons. This is where it went downhill for me. The mission was like a brand new game with attempts at stealth and otherwise pointless fetch quests to find 'keys to the next door' essentially.
-Combat is almost too easy at times. I walked the earth with a pocket full of Phoenix Downs (used to revive you from the dead), and never even needed them.
-Would've been cool if you could switch up the members of your team. You do get new 'fill in characters' on occasion, but you can't dictate this, and they often don't contribute much anyway.
-Travelling was a mission. Contrary to what some reviewers are saying, an auto-travel option does exist. It's just so specific, I only figured it out midway through the game.
-The story was far too short. I was surprised to discover I had finished the game abruptly 15 chapters in.

    Overall:

Oddly enough, the flaws of this game are not enough to make me regret having played it. Quite the contrary, it;s pretty addictive. I found running around in the open world post-plot a lot of fun.

This fantasy is awesome, but has some weak points. There are obvious problems in the storytelling because of cuts(luck of time in development).
But there are so many different emotions in its 20-25 hour main story so it's hard to find something this heart-touching. The fighting system is amazing, the world is amazing, characters are amazing (especially Ardyn with his malicious voice)!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Final Fantasy XV is the best FF in recent years, and the most controversial. It's also a mish-mash of older projects, namely FF Versus 13 melded with new narratives that changes the game in a radical way. It starts of too slow, yet strangely you'll get used to the grinding, traveling, camping and dining that makes up its Open World. That changes after Mission 9, where the game became this super linear affair, reminiscent of the Uncharted series more than anything else. It changes tone again on Mission 13 to what is akin to an interpretation of survival horror (?). Before ending again in a glorious final boss(es), filled with screen filling effect and QTE galore. There's too many hands on deck for sure during its decade long production, and it shows...yet the quest of Noctis and co are so enganging at times, so beautifully presented that you'll want to stay for a very long time in this world. I got the Platinum from this game because I really enjoyed playing it, It has an awesome OST, great graphics, and even when I know some people found lots of bugs, in my experience I just spotted a few minimal ones, the story and the fellowship developed so great. Nonetheless, I really don´t think it is a game every one would enjoy, but if you do like the genre you will have a blast playing it

The game is fantastic. It's not perfect in every way, but it's amazing. The action-y combat feels great and plays great, but there are two problems with it. The dungeons are some of the best in the series.
The music is some of the best since 7 imo.
The fishing mini-game somehow manages to be fun.
    The graphics are great.
The environments are a little on the empty side, but that's because quests (main, side, and beast hunts) add monsters to areas, so if you have accepted a bunch of quests at once you'll find that the areas are a lot more full than if your not doing anything
BTW you'll never want for something to do in this game, there is a ridiculous amount of side quests and activities, and dungeons, including endgame dungeons after the credits.

The main thing keeping it from a 10 is the story, or rather what's missing from the story. You can pretty obviously see where they intend the DLC to go. Also, a lot of characters that should get development don't get any whatsoever, especially on the villains' side.

This doesn't mean the story is bad, overall it's still pretty great and hits all the points it needs to, and the ending is one of the best endings in FF.

    Overall, definitely worth playing.

BTW. there are adding a lot of free updates to improve upon the story's weaknesses. For example, they added a few scenes from Kingslglaive in near the beginning of the game.

On that note, no you do not need to watch anything else to get what's going on or to appreciate the story. It does help you get invested though and the movie and shorts are decent (but not great).

Also, yes ch. 13 is terrible. 13 seems to be FF's unlucky number

Don't let that stop you though FF15 is still one of the best games in the series.

It's neither turn-based, nor full ARPG, something in between...
What turned out to be great was the fact that you are given a pause in the action which gives you an opportunity to use libra/scan to devise the best strategy and gifted the ability to switch out your party's gear and spells to suit the foes you're fighting.
In previous FF games, you'd have to lose the battle before being able to change anything.
Many people have criticised that all you do is hold circle throughout fights - these people haven't taken on any challenging foes yet - you certainly can't take on some of the later bosses without near constant blocking, waiting for the opportunity to attack.

The graphics are gorgeous and the story is good too.
The skills (fishing, photography, etc) are irrelevant but diverting if you want more out of your game.

The thing that let the game down is the main characters - they look like a K-Pop band and act in a mostly repugnant nature.
They in no way make you care about them.
Noct grows as a character towards the end of the game but not much and not convincingly.
The only main character I felt any warmth towards was Ignis (no pun intended).

It's only the fact that I bought the game digitally that I put in the effort to find a real gem of an ARPG but if I had bought the disc, I'm not sure I'd have put the effort in and would have traded it in quickly, with an altogether different opinion of the game.

If you were into FF for the Turn-based, numbers driven JRPGS, look elsewhere, maybe Persona5 or Ni No Kuni 2. I am Setsuna wasn't bad either try those instead, plus they are re-releasing Dragon Quest 7 and 8 on 3ds. But is this a bad game. Short answer. No.

FFXV is a defiantly a game for the casual FF player. If you have heard about the series and want to jump in. Now would a good time. If new FF players feel brave after that and want to try out other big hitters in the franchise like 9, 7, 6, 4 and even 12. You would not be able to recognise those games, just a fair bit of warning for anyone brave enough to trek in FF history. Maybe 12 would still be some what playable. This doesn't make FFXV a bad game. In fact it brings the franchise to a more main stream audience and that is something FF defiantly needs, because if we are being realistic turn-based RPGS don't do gangbusters, this isn't the PS1 or PS2 era. So the pool of players is smaller and smaller as time goes on. But if you were disappointed by XIII and didn't stick around till Lightning Returns, i'd say give this a chance. This is not the older final fantasies we love, but a newer breed.
Would i recommend it to new FF players; Yes.
Old FF players: Maybe, but know what you are getting into and keep and open mind.
If you think the best FF was 9 and everything after that is garbage. Stay Away from this one. Because you'll just be leaving a negative review.
All in all it is an enjoyable game, the villain is probably the best since Kefka (FF VI for newer players). **SLIGHT SPOILER**(Not much of a spoiler just the infamous bit about this game) Though Chapter 13 can be annoying, whatever you are feeling during Chapter 13 is kind of what the developers want you to feel, if you really think about it.

FF XV is a mixed experience. I generally like it, but why can't I drive the car myself? The worst car driving in any game I ever played. The car drives by itself on rails, wtf. And you can't go off-road or as character can't even jump over a small fence. This destroyes almost any immersion for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Final Fantasy XV is a game published on 29 November 2016 by square enix company. This game called to be one of the best games in 2016. However, it’s still have disadvantage things like bugs and uncomplete story.
First start with Final Fantasy XV’s false. Uncomplete story. If anyone who want to know the whole story of Final Fantasy XV, he or she must watch animation “Final Fantasy XV : brotherhood” also with movie “Final Fantasy XV : kingsglaive” but it’s still shorter compare with previous episode (about 24 hours). Bugs, Final Fantasy XV have many bugs also with long load game time with cause from limitation of budgets and times. (Many people think that this game has use 10 years to develop but the true is it’s use only 3 years instead).
But, in disadvantage things, Final Fantasy XV still have more good part like great character design for both male and female character designs, Real time battle which allowed player to controlled up to 4 characters at the same time. Open world, player can control the character to move other from the main story to farming and boss hunting to get better equipment which has level from very easy to very hard. Also, with another mode of gameplay like take a photo, cooking food and fishing.
Finally, even Final Fantasy XV still have disadvantage things, but the good part is more. So, many gamers and fans of this game are supposed that Final Fantasy XV is one of the best games in 2016.

FINAL FANTASY XV is a game that has everything to make you happy. It has a open world, but also, has many linear moments due to story, and the story is VERY good at all. Escaping the flames of war, Noctis epic journey with his best friends is very real and deep. The battle system is so good and the game has the best dungeons in all FF series. I loved Princess Luna, she is so cute and strong.

From the vastness of the open world, to the epic masterful soundtrack, everything in here feels Final Fantasy, and at the same time it doesn't. Combat took a heavy action oriented take, replacing the classic "per-turn" based gameplay for real time combat. Even though the controls and combat mechanics are FAR superior of those seen at both the Duscae and Platinum demos, it never reaches the overall supreme quality of other action oriented RPG's (Dark Souls series comes into mind), but neverthless its addictive, fast paced, visual and easy to understand, yet hard to master.

Storywise, this game does not reach the unsurmountable highs set by Final Fantasy VII or IX, but it's not bad at all, by any means, as a long timed Final Fantasy fan i would place this entry in the "good" storied main games. The Characters are lovely, Noctis' friends earn their place as one of the best parties on the series (yes, also the smallest), and by the end of the road, the little memories of photographs, fishing, hunting or driving arround next to Noctis' friends are the memories that remain, not the epic and amazing set pieces this game offers (And it offers quite a lot of epic moments, but it quite never reaches the incredible highs of other games on the genre, but bear in mind this is an RPG most of all).

You control Prince Noctis, in your road to marry his childhood friend Lunafreya. On the road, the empire overtakes Noctis' kingdom and its up to you to recclaim your throne, in order to do so, you must earn the power to take down the empire. Its a simple premise, with some twists at the end of the game, where the game suddenly changes its open world structore for a more heavily story-focussed linear path. That might overthrow some people, but in the end it turned out to be a very wise decision by the folks at Square-Enix, and after the credits roll, you may drive again on the open world, to tie up lose ends, so this design helped both the open world mechanic and the story, and it's a welcomed change to the RPG model.

The best moments of Final Fantasy XV are those heartwarming moments these four friends share, heavily reinforced by a beautiful soundtrack. At its very core, this is a story about friendship, not kings or gods, set on a fantastic world of imposible scale.

The amount of content is huge, saddly sometimes filled with tedious fetch-quests, although the party reactions along the way aliviates the tedium and adds a layer of humor, much welcomed after the bore-fest that were Final Fantasy XIII's story and characters.

At the end of the day, even though story wise is not the greatest final fantasy game, in terms of pure videogame mechanics is one of the best, and it paves the way for a bright future of the franchise. This is a Final Fantasy for all of us, fans or newcomers. If sharing heartwarming memories with friends, exploring caves, summoning powerful creatures, managing inventory, riding Chocobos and saving the world is not Final Fantasy, then i do not know what it is.

Final Fantasy XV probably it's not the best Final Fantasy ever made, but no other Final Fantasy (Or JRPG for that matter) is like Final Fantasy XV. This is a game that will stick with you, if given the opportinity

This game contains FF features such as Chocobos, Summons, Gear and items, upgrade system and consists linear quests for story telling.

For the game in general its true there are some gliches and bugs and perhaps there are some strange effects in animations (sometimes their hair seem quite shiny for example) but if you are going to make a big deal for these least reasons in specifict then you should have **** up many other games that have gliches that broked them or at the least made them annoying as **** (I was stuck in skyrim for hours since the ****ing dragons were spinning in a single point or never appeared). My last opinion would be that even though it has made many characteristics that were supposed to attract more new players to the franchise from occident iot still has a lot of appearance thata makes it look quite a lot like a japanese game even though a goal of this game was to attract non japanese players. Overall Final Fantasy XV is a pretty good game here's a breakdown of my rating:

Battle System 9.5/10: The battle system is really fun. It's easy to control and it gives you much more control over your character than previous final fantasy games. It's also an improvement on the battle systems of Final Fantasy Type-0 or FFVII Crisis Core which also diverged from the typical turn-based system. That being said in certain areas inanimate objects can block the camera which is really frustrating and can make the combat difficult to control.

Graphics: 9/10 They're really solid graphics. They're not the best the ps4 could offer but they're solid. And when you consider the amount of time the game spent in development it's amazing that they're as good as they are.

Characters: 8.5/10 The main characters are interesting and after spending time doing side quests with them you get attached. The major downfall character wise is that your main party is set from the beginning and doesn't change other than the addition of three guest characters. The three guest characters are all intriguing so it's a true shame that they don't join your party or that you don't at least get to see more of them.

Soundtrack: 8/10 It's good but nothing special. The radio with all the classic FF tunes in the car is a plus.

Side Quests/Bonus Material: 8.5/10 They're fun and really help you flesh out the world. They also provide an extra challenge (in my opinion the story quests weren't that difficult.) After a while they do unfortunately get repetitive but once they do you can space them out with the main story or with different types of side quests which cuts down on monotony.

Story: 7/10 The story is intriguing but it unfortunately feels disjointed from the rest of the game. The urgency of moving on with the story is really interrupted by the freedom of the open world and the numerous side quests. The final few chapters feel much more linear (but still allow for an escape to do side quests if you wish) but unfortunately by that point it's a little too late. You're able to bond with the characters due to the dialogue they have as you run around the world but you don't really bond with them too much through the story which is a minus. Also the villain is (in my opinion) instantly identifiable.

Misc: The open world is quite beautiful and fun to explore. Driving in the car is somewhat enjoyable due to the old final fantasy soundtracks and the simple design of the world. Luckily there's fast travel in the game which is a plus because without it the long car rides would get old.

Summary: The game play is really fun, the world is beautiful and the characters are fun to meet. The odd thing about the game is that it's weak point is the story (which final fantasy games usually excel at) but everything else is so good that you're overall impression isn't tainted by the fact that the story is only pretty good. Overall Score: 8.5/10

The art direction and music is absolutely gorgeous -- something the Final Fantasy team is well known for and has followed through with in XV.

I've seen a lot of criticism online about the voice acting -- I personally enjoy the puns and occasionally cheesy lines although some people are more sensitive to that. Thankfully there's plenty of dialogue and subtitle language selections including Japanese for those who would rather listen to the original VO.

The game has lots of little immersion touches, such as Prompto occasionally taking photos during the game and showing them to you when you camp out. It really helps the game achieve the connection between characters on a road trip together.

I'm playing on a base PS4 and haven't noticed any significant visual issues, the game seems to run smooth at most times with subtle stutter on occasion, definitely nothing immersion breaking.

To address everyone on here who are very critical of the game: It's not the classic JRPG experience and it never set itself out to be. I think SE did a great job with the cards they were dealt.

All in all I highly recommend this game. Both newcomers to the series and FF vets are sure to enjoy the depth, gameplay, beautiful art and story.

Therefore, the 2nd half may not be as good as the first game in my view; however, to my knowledge the biggest flaw with the 2nd half is it's more on the rails without the open world aspect. That said, the open world is so diverse and fun, then the only issue is you may not be able to explore it much during certain story aspects. Nothing wrong with it, but handcuffs at times is a little annoying, and the only flaw that bothers me. The other flaw is the story/lore for the fact you need to go outside the game to know it all. In fact, the main story is the prince and his 3 friends traveling around during a crisis, and slowly built up your powers. The back story with the kingdom, crystal, and the empire is mostly explain in the movies or elsewhere. Nothing entirely wrong with that, but I wish there was more backstory explained here.

Otherwise, the game is great. I really enjoyed the real time action combat, which may turn a few off; however, I think it works well. It's very exciting, and for a JRPG in general, then I don't get annoyed at all with random encounters. I only mention this aspect is at times I get a little annoyed when you have an encounter ever 10 steps in a cave when you are just passing by. The combat and open world is where the vast majority of the game shines. The environment is diverse from desert to mountain forests. If anything it feels like the Western US from the desert to the Pacific Northwest, and you have stops with diners and hotels. My only real complaint with the open world is 90% of the diners are the same. Nothing wrong with the interior by any means, and it's a "chain" of sorts, but they should have more then 3 food options at most diners. Especially when one to two options cost almost 2,000 gild. Considering for a while you may only have 10,000 gild at most for the first 10 hours, then it isn't worth it.

Finally there are a lot of side quests. Now many side quests are repetitive in nature by grabbing something, or going on hunts for money and good items like Megaelixers which are very helpful. Normally I would get burned out, but after 30 hours I haven't because of the combat and world. That is what draws me in is the world and combat. It may not work for everyone, but thankfully they made the story accessible in which you don't have to grind for days to finish it. Overall this is a great entry for the Final Fantasy line, and it redeems the series as a new chapter and direction that works. I don't hate 13, or the MMO 14 when it was relaunch, but it has issues and controversy. Now this game won't be perfect, or great in everyone's eyes, but I believe it saved the series.

I never thought I would say this, but Final Fantasy 15 is actually pretty good. Much like the tie in film kingsglaive I found the story very rushed, poorly written and hard to follow for the most part. But the gameplay itself makes up for those shortcomings. The combat is a joy, being fairly easy to learn but hard to master. I also very much enjoyed the modern designs of classic series creatures and the modernized high fantasy world. A little disappointing is the lack of Nobou Umatses score writing, making the soundtrack a bit forgettable. This game actually renewed my interest in the series which I never would have expected. I really don't understand the bad critics on this game. I played with all FF games since the first one. I hated the 12 and the 13. But this one is a masterpiece. My top 5 would be:
    1- FF7
    2- FF15
    3- FF6
    4- FF9
    5- FF10

Clocking 36 hours so far, I've completed a handful of side quests, and the entire main story of this game. As of now, my conclusion is that Final Fantasy XV is a fantastic addition to any RPG fan's collection. As of now, my conclusion is that Final Fantasy XV is a fantastic addition to any RPG fan's collection. I give this game an 8.6/10, so obviously, I definitely found a number of faults in the game as well; but overall, it's a fantastic Final Fantasy adventure set in a beautiful Final Fantasy world that I'm going to enjoy spending another dozen or more hours exploring.

    The Good:
-The characters have fantastic chemistry, and listening to the side banter as you undertake quests or move from quest location to quest location was great. Doing side quests also nets you some additional dialogue scenes that sometimes gives you even more insight into your entourage's personalities, and I felt like the "bond" I forged with my team was really from all the side questing I did.
-The battle system. There are some negative aspects to it too that I'll list later, but overall, it was entertaining enough, and gets fairly challenging for some of the side quests or random overtuned bosses you find as you explore the map. Main story battles are never "that hard" really. But I don't ever think I've ever encountered a truly "difficult" storyline battle in any other FF either (between I to XIII-2), so that's fine.
-The "open world"-ness of this game was perfect, in my opinion. The last thing I wanted was a Witcher/Falllout/ES clone with a Final Fantasy facelift, and I think XV handled the balance perfectly. Sure, there aren't AS MANY things to do in this world as you would find in, say, Skyrim or Oblivion, nor do the side missions have the same amount of depth as in Witcher 3. But what I really wanted out of this game as a franchise with JRPG roots was really one main storyline, and then supplemental quests on the side to help fill out the experience with more fun things to do that don't have to become entirely new storylines on their own, unlike how the several branching/diverging side storylines are for the side quests in Bethesda titles. So something reminiscent of hunts in FFXII, or catching monsters in FFX for the arena, or finding random things on the map like Chocographs. And that *flavor* of side quest is exactly what we got here for the most part.
-The story; overall, I liked it. It gave a good sense of grandeur that didn't seem overblown or overly cliche. Again, some negatives here that I'll expound upon below, but I honestly don't understand how some folks are saying they didn't "get it" without Kingsglaive or Brotherhood. I haven't seen either, and I feel like I 100% understand the story, and was 100% happy with how the game resolved the primary issue.
    -The graphics are AMAZING
    -The soundtrack is AMAZING

    The Bad:
-The battle system seemed disorganized at times. Like many have said, for simpler fights, it does deteriorate into button mashing (for some of the side quest fights, there does seem to be more structure though; opponents telegraphing moves for you to avoid, telegraphing openings to get a good combo in etc). But I was hoping they'd take some inspiration from the Kingdom Hearts series in designing the battle system, which they didn't really. Also, I rarely ever found myself using magic in the 36 hours I've played so far, which was a little disappointing.
-Like I said above, the story was good, content-wise. But it DID feel quite rushed in the last 5 chapters or so. All of a sudden, the game decides to hit you with 2-3 big plot points with extremely brief dialogue scenes, that make sense, but you just don't have time to take it all in and appreciate what just happened because it all happened so quickly. I think this problem would have been resolved had the game been designed to have maybe 10-15 more hours of storyline, as opposed to the ~20 hours of story it actually has.
-The cast: the characters we got, like I said above, were great together. But I really miss the old FF style of having a larger cast of characters that you slowly meet throughout your adventure, and I was extremely disappointed that they went with such a small cast.
-Minor possible issue: a large chunk of the side quests are "hunt" based. For some gamers, this may feel "grindy" or repetitive, which is understandable. I myself enjoyed the hunts though, as I like feeling like I'm getting sent out to kill huge things in the wilds. I haven't finished them all though, but already I've seen a few throwbacks to old FF's, which was great

So overall, I thought this game was absolutely a joy to play so far, and has a new "feel" to it that isn't quite "like the old school FF's", but rather a feel that can be described as being "uniquely Final Fantasy XV". My favorite part of this game has got to be immersing myself on the "road trip" with the main characters, and getting to know them throughout the story and side q's. I am absolutely looking forward to what kind of new experiences Square Enix brings out in the future!

I wanted to treat it like a hack and slash style game, and not the Diablo esq hold down the button game it is. I am saddened that magic doesn't play as big of a role in this game, but the combat system is fun and makes up for the lack of magic. I hope to see magic get a better role in XVI. The story presentation is well done IMO, and allows you to take breaks when you see fit like older FF games. My only complaint so far is that trying to venture out into the world at night when your still in early game is a near death sentence because most of the monsters will vastly outclass you. Overall I'm extremely happy with XV so far. It has given me hope for future titles of the Final Fantasy series. This game wont be making my top 3 quite yet, but it has managed to push X out of my 5 slot. Expand

A fantastic game worthy of the Final Fantasy Franchise. This game met my expectations and more. As a long time fan of the franchise dating back to the release of FF1 on the NES, This game has not disappointed. Now I am not saying there are no issues, but I am saying the issue in this game do not interfere with the greatness of FFXV.

I would by no means hold this game up next to FFVI.

I would by no means hold this game up next to FFVI. FFVII, FFVIII, or FFVIX which are all 10's and the best of the series in my opinion. I would however say it's as good as FFX as far a story, world, and characters, and I give that game a solid 9-9.5, and as far as game play I'd rate it in the same spectrum as FFXII which I would rate with an 8-8.5.

So like 10 the story is and world is amazing, I find myself getting lost in it for hours while enjoying every moment. On the other hand like 12 there are definitely issues with combat and side questing becomes redundant, but the rest of the game shines through the issues.

All that said I feel this game deserves a solid 9, as a long time fan of the series I not disappointed at all.

Don't let the 10 years of development hell scare you: this game is amazing! Although the narrative gets a bit weird and the camera might get bumpy in narrow spaces, the characters are charismatic enough to overcome this and so is the finely tuned gameplay. I'm giving this game a 10 for one reason: Because I believe you can rate a game based on the way it makes you feel before, during and after playing it. The same way The Last Guardian was imperfect technically speaking but was flawless in the way it made you feel, Final Fantasy XV may have some flaws but works masterfully with the way the player feels during the story. And I'm not saying itI'm giving this game a 10 for one reason: Because I believe you can rate a game based on the way it makes you feel before, during and after playing it. The same way The Last Guardian was imperfect technically speaking but was flawless in the way it made you feel, Final Fantasy XV may have some flaws but works masterfully with the way the player feels during the story. And I'm not saying it makes you overly emotional or uses cheap tricks to make you cry; this game makes you feel exactly what the developers wanted you to feel each step of the way. I was halfway through the game when I realised I had felt excitement, happiness, curiosity, impatience, anger, loneliness, frustration, insecurity, confusion, heartbreak and many more emotions I could barely identify, all in one game. And let me tell you something, you will not find many games capable of making you truly FEEL the whole time, even if it's just feeling at peace.

Another point many people criticize is the story. Well, I don't think it is simple, or bland, or unfinished. I think it was presented in such a subtle way that you needed to actually pay attention to details in order to understand it and put the pieces together. Everything has a reason, even those little secondary missions people won't stop complaining about. They are there simply to make you bond with your friends, to have an opportunity to show their personalities, to make you feel accompanied. And by the point where you decide you keep going with the story, you have already formed a bond, you feel better just by knowing those three characters are there by your side.

I could use the 5000 characters to explain why I still think about FFXV days after finishing it, but I think it's better if you just give it a chance and try it for yourself.

But its mostly fast action.

The world, characters, some quests, most story missions, about half the music and especially the COMBAT is fantastic!!!! The better you get the more stylish you can be and can get better at controlling the camera smh lol but its not that bad maybe 20 percent of the time it will get wonky on tall skinny enemies. The story is meh, I geuss you have to watch kingslaive but the voice acting is really good most often and ive never really heard anybody say something cheezy, which is good for newcomers. Well prompto might but his crew calls him out on it lol this game is really an 8.5+ for sure!!!

Only drawback is imo very slight camera issues, frame stutter slightly in altissia city on ps4, some areas are a little empty, only some. Other areas have monsters spawning often but where one dungeon was huge and not many enemies or structures, (I think i went there early before a side quest boss was ready) but other dungeons are awesome!!

BTW!!!! Most of the fun isnt necessarily from the story but alternate paths, taking your time exploring and the side quests that have some of the best bosses. Well, besides the 2nd half of the game has some over the top fights! Really fun! And im on ch. 12 and 55 hours in. This is a legit opinion fellas. I gave 10 to bump it up to my 8.5+

Anyway, FF 15 feels to me like a much more streamlined RPG with what feels like more of a western RPG than a JRPG. You are set in a gigantic open world (I would argue that it is almost as big as The Witcher 3) with 3 bros' and a really nice car. From what I understand FF was always turn based combat whereas 15 is not. I'm not going to say the combat is perfect but it is almost there. The camera can get real frustrating, and if you play I would suggest using the far camera setting when out in the open and middles when indoors, and turning wait mode on. Wait mode pretty much pauses the game when Noctis (your character) stops moving. It gives you more opportunity to plan and execute more. Those things together make combat a lot more fun imo.. This might sound stupid but the combat feels a lot like the Arkham games. Where you are holding down circle to attack and sometimes hitting square when prompted to block (on ps4 anyway). It just isn't quite as polished as the arkham games but it works just fine. Being a newcomer to the series I know **** about what is actually going on in the story so I would assume if you haven't played any, or at least in a while you wont either. But that is ok. The gameplay was enough to keep me hooked. I really like the friends you travel with. Ignus, Gladiolus, and Prompto are your travel companions through most of the game and I gotta say it was a lot of fun having them around. The banter was sometimes actually funny and it was cool seeing them bonding. It gave me a family vibe that was really interesting and fun to witness. I am not super sure what long time fans think but I am having a blast playing and I can't wait to start a new game. Beautiful game marks a return to the final fantasy hearts of all people!
I could not believe that after the departure of Sakaguchi, Square will make that something of value, but I was wrong. The game is a godsend!

I really think this is a fine game, great productions and combat mixed with a fairly interesting plot... just hope this doesn't mean the end for turn-based fun, still think the reviews are way too low for what this game is.

I am absolutely loving this game so far, I don't understand some of the hate coming from some people. I used to love the old turn based games and haven't liked a FF game since X but I love this the combat seems simple and boring at first but as you progress and unlock more stuff the combat really does evolve. No its not perfect I didn't like the first chapter in the game, I just found it completely boring and I'm glad I stuck at it because as I got to chapter 2 things just felt lot more exciting, this is a modern FF game and so far I've loved what I experienced and want to just keep playing,

I think a lot of old FF lovers just cant or refuse to accept that the game is moving to new directions it has too do this like most games always do at some point. After being in development for 10 years I went into this expecting to be disappointed because a lot of hype games these days seems to disappoint, so far it hasn't you have to forget its taken so long because no game will justify 10 years in the making. I highly recommend this if your into JRPGs I always recommend watching the movie and anime as it does tell the story better

    PROS:
+ Fenomenal visual effects (I mean magic effects, particles, warps, etc)
    + Great in-game CGI's
    + Unexpected plot twists
    + Beautiful world
+ Combat system (this one is really sick)
    + Memorable characters
+ This game will overwhelm you with emotions.
+ Sectets. This game is full of secret dungeons and cool items, which you can't find if you will not explore the world
    + Very cool bossfights
    + AMAZING soundtracks
    + Interesting weapons
    + Great skill tree system
    (+ Chocobos)

    CONS:
    - Nasty bugs: visual bugs with water, shadows: sometimes combat bugs are happening, for example when weapon literally slides monster's face and u are missing (misses are not a game mechanic in this game)
    - This game doesn't looks like it was in development for 10 years (but the game still great)
    - Side quests are pretty boring (as for me)
    - Surviving in combat is all about healing potions if you're not doing side quests a lot
    - TOO MUCH HEALING POTIONS, really, EVERY hard fight will require 5+ healing potions with a not bad perfomance
    - Exploring the world is kinda boring (as for me).
    - Bossfights are looking strange sometimes due to some combat bugs (but they still looks great)
    - Noctis is too naive sometimes
    - Ridiculous auto-save system (u may fight a boss/clear a dungeon for 30-40 minutes, and when you'll die, you'll have to do it again (sometimes you will need to ride there again))
    - Bosses are sometimes easier then ordinary monsters. This looks kinda weird: chosen one Noctis can fight powerful level 40 big badass dragon, but he can't fight usual level 35 little demon, which is not a boss at all

    SEMI-CONS/PROS:
+- This game is in fact "divided" in two parts:
    1) First part of the game is all about killing monsters and farming money, resourses, leveling (feels like you're playing in single-player typical MMORPG with a really badass combat system).
    2) Second part of the game (when you will complete game in a ~70%) this game transforms from "singleplayer MMORPG" to RPG game with a great overall plot and gameplay.

In conclusion I have to say the only one thing: despite the fact that this game has such a cons, this game still 100% worth your money. FFXV will make you happy, sad, sometimes angry, sometimes it will be "jaws dropping", but overall impressions after you complete the game will be more than good.
Even after such a bugs and cons I can boldly give a 10 rating for this game just because of pros.

WARNING: Before playing the game you're really MUST SEE "Final Fantasy: Kingsglaive" (a 2-hour CGI movie about plot's beginning), and it will be really good if you will watch anime called "Final Fantasy: Brotherhood", which explains every character's childhood.

I just can't even put into words how much I love this game. From the story, to the characters, to everything, this game is just amazing. The characters are amazing. I was a bit worried as I thought that Noctis was going to be a selfish brat, Prompto was going to be an annoying one-liner, Ignis was going to be a pompous self-centered jerk, and that Gladio was going to be a meathead, but boy was I wrong. I should have known they were going to be amazing considering that Tetsuya Nomura (from Kingdom Hearts) was going to be working on character design, but I was still worried. As I said, I was dead wrong, the characters are amazing with a different personality to each of them and they just all meld together perfectly. I actually care about the characters, and they're some of the most memorable characters I've ever experienced in any game. You can feel the brotherhood and bond that they share, whether through their actions or their dialogue. The dialogue is amazing and natural, it never felt stale or pushed. When running around the world, I feel like I'm actually talking to a friend in real life. Another thing that helps with this is the stellar voice acting. Final Fantasy games are not the most well known for their voice acting (example: Titus laugh in Final Fantasy X), but the voice acting in this game is amazing. When I looked at the IMDB page for this game, I didn't know any of the voice actors, but they surprised me as they just feel so real. Their emotions are greatly conveyed through the tone in their voice and I hope that these people pop up more often in the games industry as I love them in this game. Speaking of audio, the soundtrack is fantastic. I mean, I was expecting it to be fantastic, but it really is. Every song I loved and every song I found memorable. Another great thing is that you can listen to the soundtracks for all of the past Final Fantasy games in the car or out in the world (once you've acquired the MP3 player). The presentation is amazing as the world is beautiful and full of different environments. How they managed to make the game look so beautiful but keep a pretty solid 30fps is beyond me, but if this is the engine that they're using for FFVII Remastered, then I have high hopes for that game as this runs amazing (keep in mind I'm using the base PS4). That's also while running the individual physics on the character's hair and clothes, on the flora and fauna, so it really is impressive. Texture pop-in is very minimal which is great since it keeps you into the game and immersed. Now, that doesn't mean there isn't pop-in or weird looking textures, after all, this is an open-world game. There's bound to be bugs and glitches, but for the most part I haven't encountered many that are to make note of. The open-world is vast and has many things to do. Now, the game does get more linear towards the end, but it makes sense as it has to wrap up the storyline. Some sidequests may get repetitive at times, but for the most part they're different in their own right. You get to meet some very interesting and fun characters which is also a plus. There's missions where you take pictures, missions where you hunt down beasts, or missions where you find ores to bring back to a specific person. Each character also has specific skills. Noctis likes fishing, Ignis likes cooking, Prompto likes taking pictures, and Gladio's is survival (leveled up by just walking around). The story is great, and I'm not going to spoil it for you, but it is a very good story. Now last, but certainly not least, the new combat system. The new combat system is refined, ditching the turn based combat and going for a more real-time combat. People will have their opinions about it, but I absolutely love it and if you're a fan of the combat in Kingdom Hearts, it's a lot like that. If you want a more turned bast strategy feel, you can turn on wait mode which when you aren't moving, the game will pause and allow you to plan your attacks. Overall, this game is amazing. Everything it does, it does right. It took a lot of chances that ended up paying off in the end, and I absolutely adore this game. The story can get a bit iffy at times, but for the most part is solid, especially if you decide to watch the movie and the anime, though if you don't do that you should still be fine. The polish of the game is also amazing as well as everything feels solid. I'm gonna stop now as I need to get back to playing. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is the best game I've ever played.. but I still expected a lot more! (MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD)
I class myself as a Final Fantasy fan having played over ten titles. Loved VII, VIII, and X. Struggled out of boredom to finish XII and then didn't even bother with XIII.

Since the first FFXV trailer in 2006 I've been eagerly anticipating the release of this title! I had pre ordered it on Amazon years in advance and on the day I received the copy I was ecstatic to say the least, even bought a new TV as the screen did not fit on my current one.

The game starts off great and gets even better. The characters are the best of any FF and have so much potential! I am a pro turn based gamer but I have to admit the actual gameplay is amazing with an engaging combat mechanism and countless extras you can do from racing your car in a high speed chase to shooting machine guns at robots. I actually loved the summoning mode (although initially confusing on how to trigger it), and appreciated how the archaeons would come in times of need in a tough battle giving you a sense of relief whilst struggling against a feared enemy rather than any tiny powered gimmick that you could call countless times in a minor battle against a little chicken fiend.
All of this awesomeness is varnished with an outstanding soundtrack to match (hats off to Shimomura-san).

A downside evident fairly on however is the lack of cutscenes. Final Fantasy is loved by many for its wonderful storytelling in its high quality scenes but this desperately lacked those moments. At first I thought it was as they had transferred all the early scenes to the Kingsglaive movie and that as you passed that point in the game, the story would pick up. It never did. The game was left with so many gaps in the story and events happening off screen it was hard to understand the plot let alone enjoy it. Despite ten years in making, after a certain point in the game it felt completely rushed and unfinished. Don't get me started on how annoying and tedious Chapter 13 was.

The brief story telling they did have was still completely inadequate. It seemed as though all the epicness of the XIII versus trailers had been totally lost. The one scene where Noctis meets Stella had more chemistry than the entire game with Luna. I felt so little for Luna that after her death I actually hoped they'd bring Stella into it and Noctis would forget all about his penfriend who he was told he should marry.
The character Noctis previously portrayed was a strong, confident prince now turned into an annoying spoilt brat. It would have worked if his character developed over time, but it hardly did.

Then came the ending, leaving me completely disappointed. With the ten year time jump, they had so much opportunity to give us some emotional heartfelt scenes. With the King returning ten years on after being thought dead (just like Simba). The moment his friends first see him alive and are completely stunned with joy. The moment he meets Iris, and Cid, and all his old friends. The moment he returns to the now refugee camp of Lestallum and his people heartily cheer his return with a newfound hope. None of that happened however and you were left with a complete anti-climax.
Then came Insomnia, the home I was so longing to explore and renovate back to its former glory. It however served nothing but a stage for the final boss.

Why can Square Enix not finish a game without killing off the hero? I get that tragedy works in bringing tears and all but not when they do it every single time. If you think about it, the whole game was a waste as Ardyn actually got what he wanted and Noctis lost everything. How ridiculous.
An epic scene towards the end would have been the first Versus XIII trailer ever. They could have left it as Noctis losing all his friends from Chapter 13 and then returning to Insomnia. Sitting on the throne in depression, thinking he had lost everything. Empire sending in all their troops after him and he comes outside and kills a few handfuls of them without any emotion and then returns to his throne as he did, now yielding the power of the ring (which for some reason had become a weak toy in the game compared to all its power in Kingsglaive when wielded by Nyx). That would have really pleased us with the trailer nostagia. Then continued with whatever story and ended with him restoring Lucia back to its days of former glory as a bad ass king. Allowing you to explore the open World once more in the present day.

Despite all these criticisms I still enjoyed the game. After clocking it I'm still finding loads of new stuff to do even though i had completed all the sidequests previously. I'm looking forward to the updates now. I know this would probably be very cliche and annoying but I actually want Square Enix to release another game via DLC suggesting Chapter 9 onwards was all just a bad dream and rehash the entire second part of the story to how it should have been!

Gonna be a long post here, but for anybody interested in FFXV, I suggest you take a few minutes to give it a read. I'm a life long fan of the franchise, and have a LOT to say about it. No worries here, because it will all be spoiler free as far as story goes.
It's been about 10 years since a game called Final Fantasy Versus XIII was shown. That game would later on become known as Final Fantasy XV. Many people were waiting a long time for this to come out obviously (especially since XII wasn't really all that good, and XIV is an MMO) people wanted another solid single player FF and to many XV was the answer. So does it hold up? Was it worth the wait? What does it have to offer? Let's dive right on in, and figure it out.
Graphics: The game is very pretty to look at which is no surprise, but it does feel like it has cut corners in certain departments. One of which is many of the NPC's look generic, and are constantly reused with different color schemes. The models just seem choppy, and even worthy of PS2 quality. Also a few of the enviroments are bland, and come off bland, empty, and open. Despite these minor discrepancies, the game looks great for the most part, and really shows off some magnificent art and detail. The main character models look good, and detailed. Some of the enemies really look savage, and threatening. Animations for most models look good, but again going back to the NPC's...many of them move about in an awkward fashion, and though this is a JRPG, the lipsync is still kind of goofy. Don't worry it's still better than X's lipsyncing.
Combat: This is the biggest change the game has to offer. It's not turn based, and you don't use any other characters, besides the main protagonist. It's pure action combat. Think of it playing similar to Kingdom Hearts. Luckily the combat is very responsive, and easy to get used to after a bit of practice. Learning to dodge, and use the correct weapons in the right situations is crucial for victory. You can also eat/camp to buff your characters up before a tough battle. Many weapons are available for use in FFXV, anywhere from guns to swords. Variety is definitely a welcome aspect, but again you will have to make sure you know what weapons work against certain enemies, or a fight can take much longer. Weapons are the strong suit in this game, but sadly I can't say the same for magic, which is another staple in the series. Magic is very limited in the game, and comes with a cooldown after use. Granted the magic is quite powerful if crafted correctly....but you wont be seeing many spells here. Mainly just fire, ice, and lightning (with a few exceptions much later in the game.) so don't go expecting to cast off ultimas, flares, meteors, etc. Total bummer. I do hope that they fix the magic system because it just seems so lackluster. Luckily the weapon combat is solid, and you may even be able to use a few summons on your adventure as well. There are also joint attacks (which take the place of limit breakers) and can prove to be quite useful in not only hurting the enemy, but also giving you a bit of breathing room. Each character has a few of these attacks to unlock, and they will be crucial to victory.
Leveling System/Ascension: EXP is present in this game, and of course plays a big role. There is also AP which allows you to upgrade your characters and various other aspects of the game. Your EXP stocks up and will not level you up unless you go to camping grounds or an inn. This is very important! Let me explain as to why that is. Let's say I have 20k EXP stocked up on my characters, and I decide to go to an inn so it will start to level my team up. Certain inns will yield an XP bonus. I have seen it range from 1.2k boost to 3.0 boost. Obviously inns that yield a bigger bonus will cost more to stay at. So if you want to level up significantly faster, then that would be your best bet. Now let's say I go to a camping ground to level up and rest up. Camping will not yield bonus XP, but instead offers you the option to buff your characters up with a meal. Some of these LIMITED buffs offer a huge bonus in HP, XP gain (for fights after you camp) and attack power. This is a good option to use if you are stuck at that boss that keeps giving you trouble, and you need an extra boosts in stats. However there are also diners all over the world that have a limited selection of meals to eat that will boost stats. These are also on a time limit, and you can only buff yourself up with one meal at a time. So don't go in thinking you're going to eat 3 things and get all the benefits from every meal. It will just replace the stats from your prior meal. IT DOES NOT STACK! Now that all that is out of the way let me go in depth with Ascension. AP is required to up your Ascension skills. Some of these include new moves, permanent EXP gain, and the ability to equip more accessories. It's a very simplistic system, and is clearly intended to not put too much pressure on new players to the series. I wont say anything else on it, because there just really isn't much else to say. It's kind of a weak system as far as customizing goes, however AP is shared between all characters so you can really go to town on it.
Exploration: The first half of the game has a lot to explore, while the second half of the game is much weaker, and linear. However it is very story driven, and attempts to finish telling the story. There are many things to find on the world map, such as loot, ingredients for cooking, ores for car customization, and a few weapons here and there. There are also hunts, and dungeons as well. Many of these are optional, but recommended. You can traverse the lands on foot, in your car, or my personal favorite: Chocobo! Also worth noting that your car is upgradeable so it will perform better, and your choco will level up, which in turn also improves his/her performance. The choco gains new skills/stats automatically. All you have to do is ride it, and in time it will level up. There is another method of transportation, but I'm sure any FF vet already knows what that involves. There are many areas and sidequests to explore, but I didn't find much loot in way of weapons/accessories. This kind of bummed me out because I like a vast number of weapons I can pick and choose from. This now brings me to my next category...
Weapons/Accessories: The main protagonist can use any weapon/magic in the game. The others are set only to use 2 types of weapons, and any magic in the game. Certain weapons obviously yield certain stats, and possibly some sort of elemental buff as well. Pretty standard, and again I feel they made it this way to go easy on the newer players. There are some upgradeable weapons, but it's very basic. Don't go expecting the weapon system to be like FFVII where you can slap materia on it, and make it a powerhouse. Ain't happening! The game also offers accessories. These are pretty standard in FF titles. Some give EXP bonus, and some give more HP/MP/ETC. You can unlock more accessory slots via ascension so that's cool. There is no way to upgrade your accessories (at least not that i'm aware of) so don't hold your breath on that. Also going back to FFVII this game kind of reminded me of it, because there is no armor in the game. Just fatigues. Basically different skins for your character to wear. I haven't noticed any sort of advantage to them, and they seem to be purely cosmetic. So just like FFVII you only have to worry about weapon/accessory load out. No armor. Which is a bummer, because adding armor into the game adds depth/challenge.
Skills: Each character has a given skill that they can do. For example Noctis can trigger a fishing mini game at various fishing holes. The fishing mini game is done well, and can yield fish that provide items/food for camping. The skill levels up as well, and will give more bonuses to you. Ignis can cook for the team at a campground which as stated before can buff the team up with some great temporary stat boosts. The more he cooks for the team, the higher the level goes. Gladio has survival tactics that focus on collecting more items after a battle. The more you travel on foot, the more it levels up, and last but not least is prompto who has the photography skill. Probably one of the coolest skills in the game. He can basically chronicle your entire journey with photos. The more photos taken, means the more photography levels up.You can even share your exploits on social media if you desire. A cool little feature that I hope more games do. It's kind of hard to take a snapshot in battle with other games, so maybe this one will set the bar, since all photography is automatic. You can also save up to 150 pictures. So save those memories! The skill system is something that is again, very simplistic, but at least adds a bit more of depth.
Music/Sound: No complaints here. Nothing but praise. The music is very good, the sound of a sword slicing, or a gun shooting is pleasing. The voice acting is top notch, and if that wasn't enough for you...well you even get to listen to past Final Fantasy music in your car while you drive to your next objective (so long as you don't fast travel!) You can even purchase an MP3 player in-game and listen to it while travelling on foot! Pretty cool idea!
Story: It can be a bit confusing and lackluster at times. A lot of stuff happens off screen. I'm wondering if that is due to the DLC that will be coming out in the future. There isn't much backstory on the boys either. I hope you enjoy anime, and CGI movies, because there is an hour long anime called brotherhood that explains the characters a bit more in-depth, and then there is the movie called Kingsglaive which I still haven't seen, but again gives more insight to the overall struggle between the empire and Lucis. I feel that they really did skimp out on story with this installment, but for what it is worth, the bit they do give you is very interesting, and I wont spoil anything here, but this game probably had one of the best endings in gaming history. Just pay attention, and you may see or hear some interesting things! Also seriously if you do like Anime, then I suggest checking out Brotherhood. It's not balls out action, but it does have some, and the stories are good and hold weight. Don't bother with it if you don't plan to play this though, as nothing will really make any sense to you.
So that's about all I can think of off the top of my head about this game. My final thoughts on it are pretty clear that I do like this game (please refer to attached photo) and I may not think that it was worth a 10 year wait, but it's better than XIII.....but nowhere near as good as XIV....or XII (which will have an HD release next year with a bunch of new things for NA audiences to enjoy)This however is still a solid entry in the series, and Square has already announced that it plans to update the game with new features such as added cutscenes to explain some of the happenings that occurred off-screen, a possible character switching system, a new game plus mode, and other free updates to keep the game running smoothly, and keep the player playing for a long time. Seriously though, how come they didn't just add new game plus before launch? One thing to remedy with the lack of new game plus for now is that you can continue playing the game to wrap up any loose ends after you beat it. Gotta beat them super bosses! So in time the game should get better, but in the meantime just enjoy it for what it is. A good solid RPG with enough content to have you playing for hours on end. To the few that actually read this, thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts on it. Happy Gaming!

This is a beautiful game. Final Fantasy XV is truly amazing and haven't liked an FF game so much since X.
It has some issues following a proper narrative line, but if looked in-depth the story is there.

You can feel the friendship and it's like 4 bro's going on an adventure.

So much to explore, so much to see and all in excellent quality, a great combat system and environment.

This is one of the best games of the year and an awesome comeback for the final fantasy series.

Um dos FF mais bonitos e divertidos que já joguei.

Muitas coisas para fazer, historia legal no ponto certo (Nada de muitas reviravoltas, mas tudo bem construido)

    Super recomendo.

Great game. Even after beating it, i find myself being drawn back to it, for the post game stuff, or just to replay portions of it. The story may not be fleshed out in the game as much as some want, but that can be remedied with some reading, as well as watching the decent Kingsglaive movie.

I will also be holding off on bringing up any spoilers, because this review is purely meant to highlight the pros and cons of this title.

Being a fairly devout fan of the Final Fantasy series (Up until Final Fantasy 13), I can safely say that I've had a love-hate relationship with the franchise over time. That being the case, I've found myself being extremely cautious when it came to this title, due to the negative direction of the franchise as a whole over the past few years. Though, I'd have to say that I was quite pleasantly surprised at the standard of quality among the series that's set by this game. Though, there are some pretty noticeable problems.

    - Overall Atmosphere -

Final Fantasy 15 is among my Top 5 favourite Final Fantasy games now (My favourites being; FF5,FF6,FF7,FF9,FF15). This is because it rekindled my love for the overarching aesthetic of the Final Fantasy universe! The world in FFXV is beautiful, and is more than likely going to captivate anyone who can experience the game first hand. Its sprawling landscapes, mysterious geological anomalies, and beautiful cultural locations give life to a world that could only dwell in a Final Fantasy game. Alongside the world, the game has a fairly satisfying combat system, which will leave you feeling like an absolute badass at the end of most fights. But we'll speak more about the combat system later in this review.

    - Story -

The main story, on the other hand, is largely subjective. This is due primarily to its quite blatant problem when it comes to the story lacking a consistently entertaining experience. At times the story can be engrossing and will have you loving the characters and atmosphere. Though, on several occasions it leaves you waiting for something overwhelmingly extravagant to happen, when nothing ends up happening at all. For instance, there is a certain chapter in which the game loses all momentum and leaves you hoping that the segment will end very soon. This can be regarded as a large issue, especially when speaking of a Final Fantasy game. Though, there is one arguably good/bad change (depending on how you look at it) to the story's progression and details. The story of FFXV is immensely more comprehensive than most Final Fantasy games' narratives, which is actually somewhat of a drawback, in my opinion.

    - Post-Game Activities -

The post-game activities (Things you can do after the story is complete) are replete with a variety of interesting and uninteresting quests and objectives. Some of which will have you exploring dungeons and fighting fantastic creatures, while others will just be boring fetch quests that add nothing to the overall experience. There are also many separate outlying dungeons and areas in which you will be tasked with acquiring Royal Arms and many other rare weapons, accessories, and items which allow you to personalize your experience in exploration and combat. But there is only so much you can do, which may leave you tired of playing the game for subsequent hours after completion.

    - Characters -

Love 'em or hate 'em, it's all up to how you view these characters in the end. Generally speaking, the characters are much more in-depth than what they initially come off to be. Plus, they exude a certain wittiness that some may find annoying, and others may find charming and quirky. I'm not going to say much else regarding the characters, being that it's primarily preferential whether you like them or not.

    - Combat -

The combat looks and feels fierce during large sequences and against powerful enemies. But if you were hoping to have your very sanity challenged by a painstaking and bloodletting challenge akin to a Dark Souls perma-death run, you've come to the wrong place. The combat, while visually satisfying, is not challenging at all (In my opinion). Even larger boss battles can be very forgiving, when all you have to do is stock up on restoratives (Phoenix Downs, Elixirs, (Hi)-Potions, etc). Restoratives make you borderline invincible , due to the fact that you and your team could be completely wiped out, and all you have to do is use one Mega-Phoenix, then everyone is back on their feet with full health and a decent status buff.

    - Conclusion -

I couldn't touch on some of the more minor topics, due to the 5000 character limit. But if you're interested in a visually stimulating, slightly more in-depth hack and slash game with a fun and lively atmosphere, along with a few glitches/problems, I would highly recommend that you check out Final Fantasy 15! I hope you find my opinion of the game helpful!

The story starts out easy to follow, but starts to lose its steam around its second act. It quickly becomes a mess of confusion as most Final Fantasy stories do. There are some jarring transitions to certain areas in the game that seem to carry little purpose. Although its third act is VERY short compared to the first two, it wraps up the story quite nicely and gives a very nice feel-good moment, thanks to the strong characters. Most other Final Fantasy casts aren't as likable, despite what some nostalgia-blind folk might tell you. This cast really does make the story worth seeing through to the end.

If you're not one for story and characters, then the gameplay is rock solid. The combat is similar to that seen in the Kingdom Hearts series. It's fast, frantic, and fun. Attacks flow well, and you have special abilities that your partners can use for various purposes. Multiple enemies can become a chore if you don't defeat them fast enough, but it doesn't take away from a very solid and enjoyable core system. In my opinion, it beats just about any turn-based system out of the water.

Overall, it's a game that puts its story behind its fun characters and equally fun gameplay. A gorgeous world packed full of giant creatures to battle, which can only be taken advantage of fully with the current open world and free flowing combat systems.

This is the modern Final Fantasy I've been waiting for. If it keeps up this level of quality it is going to replace FFX as my favorite modern FF. Expand

People are complaining about driving on the road for so long but that's the whole point... it's a road trip! The you’ll drive is 10 minutes. (btw you also have to fill up gas and repair the car sometimes(I love that immersion))The fighting mechanics are very fun and for a newcomer to the Final Fantasy series this is the perfect game. The quests are also very fun. All although a good number of them are fetch quest I personally enjoy them. The music is fantastic is does hit the heart with emotion and heroism when you're in the middle of a battle The graphics are glorious as also the atmosphere. Boss battle are intense as hell. The dialogue between the characters are realistic and gives you that bond between them. You can go from talking about each other's experiences during car rides or asking noctis about certain things to talking about problems on top of a motel ceiling. The experience you’ll have in this game are memorable and the relationship between the characters are on point. You truly feel that “bromance” when you're playing this game. The only problem I have with the game is that the driving mechanic is a little linear. You can’t go off road or really crash into anything but I understand because it wouldn’t make sense in the game if you were able to do that. After chapter 8, the game gets more linear so it can prep the player up for the ending. People are expecting the perfect game because it was announced in 2006 but in reality it wasn’t in development for 10 years lol. I really enjoy the new combat style from turn based to live action. People perceive it as a hack-n-slash but its not becuase it you do try to hack and slash you just get your butt whooped lol. The combos and team attacks just make the combat more enthusiastic. Final Fantasy XV is for sure a masterpiece that people will enjoy. Don’t listen to the people who gave it a bad rating because they are just rating it on nostalgia. LISTEN TO ME. FFXV IS A GREAT GAME! Expand

I agree that there is a obvious problem with the story focus, sometimes i felt like i was playing a game i didn't understand. But for me it's a PS4 problem. The creators focus too much on technicality but no more on the storyline ( the division , metal gear solid for example).
Being said even with that pb i found the overall experience very enjoyable.

The most important innovation is of course the battle system, the real time action is for me a bit of a let down. Is not that I dislike real time battle systems, and I think this one in particular is a pretty good one, but fora a FF game I prefer turn-based a hundred times, because it is a signature element which makes the franchise so magical.

The open world I also think it was something pretty unnecessary for this game and many of the sidequests were too repetitive, with unfunny storylines and characters. The rest of the elements were mostly brilliant, from the graphics to the music, going through a story which, although a bit clumsily told, was still very emotional.

Overall a very good game, and a good attempt from Square to bring new life to the saga, still nowhere near the FF masterpieces of the playstation one.

After so many years of development, Final Fantasy XV is not what I expected it to be. The universe is immense and beautiful and the characters are just fine. But the story is short and disappointing and the gameplay suffers from lack of depth. FFXV is a good game, but it can never bring the former glories back to the series.

Even as you reflect on the rarity of a blockbuster that's willing to take real risks, you'll be left with the uncomfortable realisation that ten years wasn't quite long enough, after all. Those jagged edges are, in the end, just a little too sharp. [Feb 2017, p.110]

Despite a divided feel, torn between what it was and what it plans to be, Final Fantasy XV has a lot to offer. If you're a diehard JRPG fan, then it's a positive sign that the series can cross over to a new format. And if you're just looking for an open world adventure, Final Fantasy XV certainly has that in spades, while doing just enough things differently to separate it from the likes of Dragon Age and Elder Scrolls.
