    I see a lot of people complaining that it's the same game as every year, it's not. It's much worse. This is the least balanced FIFA there has been for close to 20 years. Bottom line is, it's not even fun to play. It feels like a game that's been tuned specifically for esports competitions and it's not longer a game designed for people to enjoy.

    The mechanics of this game is terrible. I dominate by playing a certain way. The defending is awful. I have seen high school players track and defend better. It has a very arcade feel to it in that they made it so games have 5+ goals for each team. Defends just stand around. And offensive players just stand or they just run straight. Well I am keep this short and simple it’s a broken game and EA is just another money hungry company making the game pay to win and if you don’t spend money you rarely secede and they say they patch broken mechanics in the game they just end up making it more broke.     Scripted BS - its not even subtle anymore, half time/full time goals, rebounds, blocks, defenders being actually (moved/slid) scripted out of position to leave huge areas for attackers to run into - whats the point....

    Gameplay absolutely horrendous! It is an absolute joke compared to FIFA 20 (which wasn't the best). Passing is absolutely stupid (a ball goes the whole lenght of the field like a hot knife through butter). Defending is terrible, and even if you used te be an absolute wall in FIFA 20, it doesn't matter. Overall a trash game!!

    I’ve played fifa for a long time, this is by far the worst version I’ve played. The game play is shocking. Granted career mode has a couple of nice changes, but not enough to be mentionable. I find that I have to sim the games as if I play on my normal level (legendary or above) the game play is too awful. Midfielders don’t track back, goalkeepers always concede near post, the team don’tI’ve played fifa for a long time, this is by far the worst version I’ve played. The game play is shocking. I honestly can’t believe how EA have been able to mess up the refereeing so much, it’s always been something that has been fairly solid but this years game has had the worst decisions I have ever seen (for and against me). In conclusion, I wouldn’t recommend buying this game. Fifa has been in decline over the years anyway but this game is by far the worst.… Expand

    Skripting pay to win especially weekend league where your players play like they are stupid and you cant win matches and rank up if you don't buy fifa coins. It all about the money if you don't mean to buy fifa points don't play this game. Community is also really bad even in april lot of people still using same meta players and you will face same teams over and over again

    I can only compare this game to expectations rather than previous games, as I've avoided it for years. However I can confirm that it's dire. Career mode is clunky and a bit lazy. But Ultimate Team is where the bad really is. Setting aside how it's encouraging people into loot box gambling, and how it rewards people who are willing to pay for packs (because for most people, success is depending on having the best players), the gameplay is glitchy and flawed, and while on the one hand claims to be sim-like with its inconsistent and biased refereeing, encourages the use of skill moves and button bashing (or right stick twiddling in FIFA) to bypass any skill requirement - when you see Ian Wright doing fancy skill moves you'll understand how dumb it is. It rewards players who can't be bothered to learn to defend by making AI defending overstrong (and actually punishing people who like to control the defending themselves). Then you have issues like gifting some favoured people special and icon cards to use in public competitions against paying public; that if you aren't willing to spend all day trading or buying points then you'll always be second class and will never see the top players; the often terrible servers (although these have been improved in the last month or so, only taken 6 months).

    There is stuff to like, the online modes are slick, the menus fine. But there is so much to not like that I definitely won't be buying it again next year or for some time. And unless you like games that drive you to absolute rage, I recommend you avoid it.    … Expand

    Fifa has tried to get around the scripting issues which were more blatant before by making player switching more unreliable so that you switch to the wrong player at key moments. It plays exactly the same as 17,18,19,20 did without any changes anywhere (offline,online), they don’t even bother to change the tile menu they use since fifa 14 and they just resell the same game every year with updated rosters on full price. The create your own stadia is a mess, pink lines, snowmen and birthday cake footballs shouldn’t be in the game. The whole mode is a complete cash cow. Players get nerfed after a period of time so you’re forced to upgrade and spend money on coins. To get the best players you either have to play at least 60 games per week so that’s a minimum of 15 hours just to be in with a chance to get some decent ‘pack’ pulls or you have to spend real money to buy packs which for icon players have about a 1% chance pull rate and for normal 88+ rated players it’s about 5% depending on packs. EA trying to clamp down on players buying coins from the black market so they are closing accounts at the slightest suspicion (hasn’t happened to me but I know plenty) so if you buy a player for more than they are worth by accident EA bans you from the transfer market. Players are constantly being hacked and coins gone and players sold etc. You contact EA and they assign a games specialist to investigate, 2 month later they look into it and claim that nothings wrong and you lose your coins etc and EA don’t operate an appeals procedure nor do they have any kind of complaints procedure so you cannot escalate anything. They are not bothered about the customer it’s only about the money. The servers are terrible, they always have been but you would think the popularity of the game that they would invest in this area. No not EA, you play a game with constant lag and often kicks you out for connectivity reasons even though your internet and your opponents internet are high with a low ping. The games broken. More about the cash cow rather than the gaming for EA. Very poor showing. I will not invest again next year. This is the last which is a shame… Expand

    Utter **** scripting is worse than it’s ever been, there is no such thing as smart A.I. and the play is clunky, Sunday league mistake after mistake. I thought they would have tried with some of the new rebranding but like EA this is hot garbage covering in the frustrations of nearly any player who has touched the game.

    Played FIFA for years, at this point have entirely given up on FUT due to the canyon sized gap between players who spend real money and those who don't. This review deals primarily with career mode or games vs. the AI. The rating is only a 3 due to the options and diversity available in career mode. Everything else about the systems operation when playing the AI is abysmal. Everything else about the systems operation when playing the AI is abysmal. Routinely finishing games with the AI/Human GK save count at 13/1 or 16/0. Ending games with 16-23 tackles, 0 fouls, but significantly less possession because the ball bounces back to the Ai every. single. time. Not to mention the number of incredibly cheap fouls on the last man or a man in the box that either do not get called or don't produce a card. AI defending is solid at times, at other times hysterically bad, but the worst aspect of defense this year is the case of the always missing full-backs. It simply does not matter what your LB/RB's work rate is, what his/her positioning rating is, the instructions you use, or the position adjustments you make. No matter what you do, one or both of these players will track to the very center of the midfield, almost to the CDM position. The AI will receive the ball high up the pitch, make two below average passes, and then blast a full-field through ball down the wing which, regardless of who you've brought back to defend it, will work. Then comes the classic sprint to the sideline and retain possession because every steal goes out of bounds. It's no exaggeration to say this happens, minimum, 15-25 times a game depending on AI possession. Even when it's not threatening or even when your fullbacks are pacey, it still ruins whatever realistic feel might have been there originally. The only defense is spamming offsides trap. Maybe just one attempt to attack up the middle, out of the hundreds and hundreds of attempts to the exact same spot down the wing would be a good idea. It is possible, through significant manipulation of the sliders, except for the GK slider which is broken (yours will always get beaten 90-95% of the time and the AI will always save it 90-95% of the time except on rare occasions against bad teams) to enjoy a season or two on career mode. Granted, we sound a tad spoiled considering EA's FIFA is one of the best soccer simulations available but there are obvious, obvious errors with the new features promised each year. If a collection of gamers on reddit and twitter can figure out how to patch those gaping holes with only things like sliders, it shouldn't be that hard for EA to do the same. Overall, if you're looking for a calming experience with a game, you're in the wrong place. But, if you're hopelessly addicted to this series of games as most of us are, wait for the next title. Hopefully it'll be better.… Expand

    At fifa 21, what bothers me the most is changing the rules during the match. If you lead, and if you are still better, the game often leads to a tie. And so you have stupid misses, even weirder defenses and so on. From the technical side, this game is perfect, but from the managerial side, it is the bottom!

    This game is epitome of **** Scripting to the max, glitches and bugs, so many other issues. Servers are horrible, gameplay is laggy and so much stupid easy-to-fix bugs. The scripting is just next level annoying, and the events are boring and monotonous. Basically gambling with a football theme

    I still don't understand why people are saying it's same as FIFA 20 which was quite playable. The gameplay is significantly worse than FIFA 20. Defending is so bad and frustrating, it’s just about having players with pace. Games easily end up with 7+ goals.
    And next gen version is even worse and totally unplayable.

Völlig verbuggt, ständig Abstürze (auch nach über einem Jahr) und der FUT-Modus kann in „Zufallsmodus“ umbenannt werden, weil man einfach absolut keine Spielkontrolle mehr hat. Just run through opponents defense and press shoot. Even a 5 year old can score 4-5 goals easily. This is not football, this is disgrace. You feel dumb to play this game. Creativity is not rewarded instead game wants you to just press shoot every time. Also freekicks are biggest fail ever. The system is broken. Headers dont work. WORST FIFA EVER… Expand

    This game is absolute trash. You know exactly when you’re going to win or lose. Match scripting and the same game is released every year claiming things have changed or they’ve made a progress. Unrealistic as well. I would suggest not to buy this piece of trash.

Consistently awful connection despite getting between 20-60 ping, clueless AI and absurd animations, and even a glitch that forced me to forfeit a game and lose my match bonus. This is all aside from the fact that EA is a ruthless, greedy company with no desire to make good video games. For a game that used to be so popular, even among people who didn't care about the pro leagues, there's literally no hype around it anymore. This game is made for little kids that have never played any other video game, anyone else would have high enough expectations to know this game isn't worth touching. The only saving grace is the menus. But you might as well play FM at that point.… Expand

    There has never been a Fifa game with worse defending than this. It may be an all round better game than Fifa 20 but thats not saying much when it's being compared to arguably the worst game i have ever played. This game isn't even worthy of a detailed review. I hate it.

    It is CRAP. Tried playing career. Nah my position switches mid game and i cant get it back. Now it just says stay in position. Tackling doesnt work. Graphics are alright but the rest is awful. Wouldnt recommend.

Gameplay gives you the illusion that your actions matter, and that the match result will more or less reflect your gameplay, but we all experience the so-called "Scripting". It may be reasonable to take away some "simulation" just so newbiees don't give up when playing online, but just don't call it football simulator, is just a different thing.
    On career mode is just so silly, I remember good times with FIFA 2007 when instead of just brain-wash you with brands and teams you could create your own fantasy football club, starting from the bottom and eventually being able to make it an elite club, with options like investing in your stadium, etc. Now, is not a simulator on that sense neither. So what is FIFA? Just an illusion, good graphics, but at the end of the day is the same as watching a netflix show, if the match is meant to end on a specific way, you will experience a lot of very weird things so that the result of the match is as it's meant to be. Is not a football simulator, is not a management simulator, is not an e-sport, I just don't know what it is anymore... so sad...    … Expand

    Game for fans who either need to work online at FUT every day, or instead want to try a modified career mode, which is starting to really look like Football Manager. Otherwise, it's a decent update for the full price. [Issue#307]

    The FIFA series desperately needs a fresh start. Right now, it relies mainly on the Ultimate Team mode and marketing, while going around in circles. Instead of leaping into the future, FIFA 21 takes half a step forward and two steps sideways in an attempt to differentiate itself from its predecessor well enough to rationalize spending money. If you already own FIFA 20 and are not addicted to Ultimate Team, you can sit this one out. [12/2020, p.44]
