It was hard for me to make the decision to buy Far Cry New Dawn. I don’t nornally like first person shooters, and I’d never played another Far Cry game before. Although I knew this was an expansion/sequel, the twins in all the promotional art seemed like interesting antagonists and I liked the use of so much pink in a post apocalyptic world. Although I knew this was an expansion/sequel, the twins in all the promotional art seemed like interesting antagonists and I liked the use of so much pink in a post apocalyptic world. That’s not very usual for these games. Some little voice in my head kept telling me to check this game out even though I hadn’t played Far Cry 5 and I had no idea why but I had to buy it. I couldn’t go based off of reviews because it seemed ALL reviews were basing their opinions off the assumption that you had played many shooters in the past and at least Far Cry 5. There were no reviews aimed toward my demographic, which was someone coming in to it with a fresh set of unbiased eyes. For me this game would be standing on its own, not being compared to Far Cry 5 in every detail. So on the Friday it came out I went to the store right when they opened. I picked it up and went home and popped it in. I was immediately hooked. I’ll admit half the time I had no idea what I was doing at first or how things worked. I didn’t know how to upgrade weapons. Or that I was earning skill points that I could spent to upgrade my abilities. I didn’t know how to fast travel. But I slowly figured everything out as I went along. (There were not really any tutorials to speak of.) Once I got the hang of it I was having a blast. I loved the characters. Timber the dog was my favorite Gun For Hire. The twins were fun to hate. I loved the saw shooting blade weapon. I loved doing the main story missions but often found myself running off my set path to take on side missions I came across. And I couldn’t put the game down for hours and hours at a time. I beat it completely in about 3 days. I loved every minute of it. Taking over the outposts and then going back and doing it again with the harder ranks. I can see people giving this game 6s and 7s and saying it’s not as long as Far Cry 5 or that the twins aren’t as good as past antagonists in the series. But for me, and to anyone else out there who hasn’t played a Far Cry Game, this one is perfectly paced and a good length at a good price point. It’s not so long that it drags on but not so short it feels like a ripoff. One of the best games I’ve played in months. Had so much fun with it. Expand

Just getting back to Far Cry New Dawn in preparation for Far Cry 6. I'm really enjoying the game. I like all the RPG progression unlocks. The style and color palette are more creative, lively. I like oddball animals. Most entertaining Far Cry I've played. I like when they take this franchise to something more interesting than just foliage and guns like the Far Cry 5: Lost on Mars DLC.

Absolutely love this game! An actual good narrative that is interesting and gives us a look on the aftermath of possibly one of the biggest endings in a Far Cry game. A lot of the textures have been redone and updated as well as adding new light RPG elements, new ideas such as expedition short missions and a lot of replayability. I enjoyed this game quite a bit.

I really don’t understand the negative reviews unless the people writing them haven’t played the game. It’s more of Far Cry 5 but in a really beautiful world. The gun fighting is great fun as always and the music is outstanding. I’m having a blast it’s just a shame that some people have chosen to hate for no reason. The story is the usual Far Cry. I can’t praise it enough.

I simply loved Far Cry 5, the story, gameplay, arcade maps, them all. This New Dawn gives you whole lot of intriguing exploring and gaming, and while not an actual new game, it is way more than some DLC, as many reviewers have complained. The Twins are really boring baddies, but fortunately you only need to see them a few times. Otherwise story and side missions are cool enough.

I would’ve liked Fallout 76 style online coop and pvp, but good enough for the price, as it is.

All these 0 star reviews are both hilarious and insane. The game is exciting funny slick and satisfying. I don't give a damn if it doesn't break any new ground or whether it's 'truly open world' etc and neither will 95 percent of the millions who buy it. It's still massively better than almost any other current game other than Metro Exodus.

This is actually a very nice game that continues the FC5 story and adds more fun and madness to it. The expeditions are great and the graphics and soundtracks are amazing. I have a great time playing it and I encourage anyone to try it. It's a full game , 18-20 hours at least and lots of possibilities to replay / coop with friends.

This game is great as it deviates only slightly from Far Cry 5. Yes, it really should have been released as DLC, but it only cost me $30 CAD from Amazon pre-order, which is less than half of a new AAA release.

Disregard the negative reviews, they are from angry right-wing neckbeards who are trying to "review-bomb" this game because they find the story threatening to their world view.

Music is awesome, really gets you in the mood. Again, far superior to Farcry 5. Looting system is also more thought out since you need materials to craft weapons so you will go into buildings to discover because it will be worth it to find a gear for your next shotgun etc.. im playing on hard-ass mode and purposely didn’t get the binocular perk to make the game more challenging.

It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day. It’s another Far Cry game…the big question on my lips was do we really REALLY need another one? Fortunately the answer is YES! It’s another Far Cry game…the big question on my lips was do we really REALLY need another one? Fortunately the answer is YES! When a game is this good, more can never be enough. What could easily be shunned as a re-skinned Far Cry 5, has evolved into one of the most addictive Far Cry experiences since Primal (you can read my review of that game here)

The apocalypse has happened and seventeen years later vegetation and animal life has taken over, but yet again a tyrannical ruler…well twins in this case is trying to control the world and its resources. The game serves as a continuation of Far Cry 5 and while does have the same map, the experiences and exploration are much more readily available in this iteration providing a Far Cry experience worth sinking your teeth into.

Part of what made this game so engaging was the ability to craft and upgrade weapons, bases and items. By far the best weapon is the saw launcher that cuts right through enemies and also rebounds off surfaces for multiple kills. It is the most bloody and satisfying way to get through areas infested with enemies. The usual suspects of guns and bow and arrows do fill out the roster, it isn’t anything that you haven’t seen before but unlocking the level 2 and 3 items is great motivation to keep playing.

The story line of your character being the “chosen one” who can eat fruit from Joseph’s tree, survive and kill a bear with a few punches does seem a bit out there for this title, when the Highway men announce their arrival with fireworks and an endless onslaught of attacks it does bring it back down to ridiculous enjoyment. This game seems to take itself a lot less seriously than the previous titles and does so in an incredibly entertaining way.

Exploration is encouraged in the game and the main story missions never interfere if you don’t want to play them immediately. The game starts off in the bottom corner of the map and gradually reveals itself depending on which missions you play and who you recruit to your base. If you want to go and spend all day and night fishing and hunting animals you can, there is no forced play through that makes the game feel almost sand box like in some elements. Speaking of animals they are actually pretty entertaining in this game. You can be ambushed by the Highwaymen, struggling to stay alive and in runs a bear who will happily start taking them out and chase them away. You then have the option to pursue them and snag some sweet bear hide or continue on your way and recoup. This happened multiple times during my play through and sometimes the bear went for me resulting in a few re-spawns.

Vehicle wise the game has the three levels like weapons and ultimately was a little disappointing with the choices offered up. There is also a Ubisoft club only buggy vehicle which looks cool, but if you are new to Ubisoft titles you can’t unlock immediately and need to play the game for a while before you can redeem. Driving around in cars can make it difficult to take enemies out with gunfire and don’t get me started on “DON’T KILL INNOCENT CIVILIANS” warning that constantly pop up when some idiot runs out in the middle of the road or walks into your gun fight and stands in front of enemies. It seems that art imitates life in this respect.

The lighting and shadows in the art of this game really help set the mood. There is one mission in which you travel down a river and light torches along the way. There is something so chilling and creepy, yet beautiful and enchanting about this moment that solidified my love of this game. It is a quiet moment, a slow and eerie experience that took me by surprise and made me appreciate the rest of the design and beauty that this game offers. The pink and purple infusion of colour and light that permeates the environment is something rarely used in a post apocalyptic title and is used to great effect. The twinkling of a pinkish light streaming through the antlers of a massive deer is majestic. It looks even better on a PS4 Pro.

Overall Far Cry New Dawn took me by complete surprise and gave me an addictive and beautiful game environment to play around in. The array of weapons, items and upgrades are fairly on par with other games yet the addition of the buzz saw launcher is pure genius. While the story may head to some really REALLY out there places, it never takes itself too seriously and its dedication to providing a sandbox like experience ultimately pays off. Far Cry New Dawn is the surprise of 2019 and worth playing.

I was a little afraid of the RPG elements on the FarCry.. But Im suprised. The game is awesome and keep the good old Far Cry style. :)
I just think the story is a little too short. But the outpost scavange option and expeditions are GREAT!

The story is mostly enjoyable for those who played this game's predecessor Far Cry 5, but difficult to understand if your are new to the series. Characters are also on an average level of quality, nothing memorable though. Character development works well with allies but not with the main antagonists, that being the twin sisters. Weapons, vehicles, gadgets, and basic mechanics from this game's predecessor are mostly copy and pasted into this new game. This is perfectly understandable since this is a spin off title and it was developed just two years after the predecessor. In conclusion Far Cry New Dawn is an interesting take on the Far Cry series by delving into new ideas, but it is not the most memorable game in the series. Expand

I love the way , the FC series is build with a great storyline and open world, also the weapon arsenal is huge compared to many FPS. Do not change that concept, the simple people who gave it 0, they didnt even play it, or are just haters. The gameplay imo, is great the way it is now.

Sure, it's a reskin of Far Cry 5, but who really expected anything different? The new way they handled perks, and outpost replayability by throwing in cosmetics was a pretty cool concept. I hope they keep some of these more 'replayability' feature in future releases of Far Cry. For $40, I enjoyed many hours and it's well worth it.

A pleasant experience with a quite interesting atmosphere. I played it before far cry 5, so I have no comparison to its predecessor. The worst element is the antagonist, two sisters who appear quite rarely and are not very expressive. overall, I really liked the game, its atmosphere and mechanics

I haven't gotten very far yet, but from what i have played it's really enjoyable. Especially if you liked Far Cry 5. Sure it's almost a straight copy, but there's new gameplay features that help make it it's own game. It's a nice familiar setting that'll be good to grind and go for trophies until Far Cry 6.

As long as you understand what you're getting here, it's a fine game. A lot of negative reviews here from people that probably never played it. It's sort of like a piece of Far Cry 5. It was fun, graphics looked good, and the bow is overpowered just like in the past. If you like Far Cry it's worth a try. I picked it up at a heavy discount on sale.

Sim, eu gostei demais do jogo.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoiler Warning - This game is not perfect in any sort of the word. I thought the story was a pretty solid 7. There are few villains I have hated more than the Twins, and Joseph Seed is back once again. I can't really qualify him as a villain in this game however, since he seems to have understood the error of his ways at the end. I am disappointed we did not get more closure of the Deputy from Far Cry 5. It is implicitly through notes left being that they became the judge and converted to Eden way of thinking, taking a vow of silence. I would have liked to see some type of closure with the character instead of largely ignoring it all together. If does however, do a good job of bringing characters from 5 and adapting it to a apocalypse

Gameplay is probably where is has it's biggest flaws. Being a smaller map, the developers obviously wanted to still provide content. Unfortunately, what we get is a grinding suck fest. Constantly attacking an outpost and then letting it be retaken, only to take it again for greater ethanol awards sounds great, but in reality it feels just boring and tedious. This goes double for the new expedition addition. First... flying from Montana all the way to Florida on that helicopter is ridiculously implausible, but even more so, having to do all 7 of them 3 different times was a grind that often felt not worth it. Thank goodness that trophy was a gold one. If it was bronze, I never would have gone through with it.

    dialogue repetition)

Design: Level Design - 9 (Good use of structures and mountains to create different obstacles and
    gamplay opportunities.)
Technical: Graphics - 8 (Pretty good ones, but not as good as the elite games out there)
Technical: Sound - 8 (Very realistic sounds of weapons, vehicles and explosions.)
Technical: Interface - 7 (Good interface, but nothing new. map and weapon menus typical)
Technical: Performance - 7 (Had some bugs occasionally and some pop-in. )
Personal: Enjoyment - 7 (Enjoyed the game and was happy to see the conclusion of the story line
    from FC 5)
Personal: Connection - 6 (Overall the game was a little disappointing, but good enough to play.)

Overall: 7.4 (Without any of the other categories, the game get's a 6, but with my weighted average with some good things that game does, it raises the score to a 7,4)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is low key my favorite Far Cry game, and I've played every one from FC2 on. I know, I know--hear me out. Admittedly, some of this is subjective; I love post apocalypse settings, and this series generally. But this one is a really unique take that puts everything that made FC5 such a blast to play in a far more compelling setting. I really liked FC5, but I felt like the sadistic nature of its enemies and the overall conflict was a jarring contrast with the goofy, over the top characters you met and got as companions. The way they (or their memories) get revisited here is way more fitting and compelling. FC5 could have been a truly riveting story, but Ubisoft had to bend over backwards to make sure no one could remotely accuse them of actually saying anything of substance with it. That largely ruined its potential. FC:ND suffers from nothing like that, and as a result is an absolute blast to play and get lost in. Yes, the RPG elements are shallow and the lack of a new game plus sucks, but it's still just a huge amount of fun in a beautiful and interesting world. You can get it these days pretty cheap, and it's well worth the investment. Expand

I would say its definitely worth a buy if its your genre of choice, if not its definitely worth a rental to try it out on Gamefly or Redbox to test the waters so to speak, which will save you even more money than a new copy if you truly dislike it. I would have liked to have been able to go to other places, hunt other animals, and possibly fight a variety of people. It seems New Dawn was a cheap renovation with a slightly altered story line. Why do some of the characters from FC5 look old now, yet Joseph Seed looks the same? I'm a solo campaign type of guy and New Dawn is definitely not long enough. All this being said, I like the controls, don't change that. I like that I don't have to bend over to loot anything, don't change that. I like being able to replay outposts, nice. But I don't like the bland story line or the ease of hunting (fly helicopter to location, land, binoculars, shoot, on to the next one...I want to be able to hunt. As for the story, I find myself skipping most of what everyone has to say, because I simply don't care; it's not entertaining enough.

My suggestions for next locations: Northern Canada, South America, Africa, Egypt, or historical (Mayans, Aztecs, Mesopotamia, Rome, Egyptian, Southern US, etc.)

As for all of the other critics out there. No matter what company puts out whatever game, people are always going to find issues with it. Racist? I don't think so. Feminist? I don't think so. I could develop a variety of insulated mugs, paint them black, and call them 1) The Black Mug, 2) The Big Black Mug, 3) The Bigger Black Mug. And because my last name is "Black" a ton of **** out there are gonna boycott the mugs because they are racist. It's just a game people. It's not meant to target or be negative towards anyone. It's not teaching me to go out and be harsh against women or black people. I don't hear anybody saying Super Mario Bros was racist against Italians, or Frogger against the French, or Mortal Kombat against Asians. It's just a game people.

    2. Weapons cannot be upgraded but you have to craft new weapons.

    3. Hunting Elite Animal is hard and you got to find their weakness. ( i was already playing the hardest difficulty)

    4. There isn't any drug enhances anymore or i might have that option when i meet the new dawn. I have holding out on this cause i wanted to take over everybase.

    5. Why are there microtransaction in this kinda game? O_O Lucky you can unlock special weapons with the uplay points you get for free and the coins can be found ingame BUT its easier just to farm the materials to craft them.

At the start of the game i was unimpressed (I don't know why) BUT as i started to play the game longer i started to enjoy it and it made me want to finish the game.

Seriously, who thought that adding rpg elements like weapon levels and enemy levels to this series was a good idea?! Nobody wants to empty 2 full magazines of an AK47 on a grizzly bear jut to have the grizzly bear still live because your AK47 is level 2 and the grizzly bear is level 3. If that sounds stupid to you, well that's because it is and that's whats in store in this game.
This game takes place in hope country 17 years after Far Cry 5's resist ending, and after spending 40 hours on the game and getting the platinum last night, I can say that Far Cry New Dawn is worth $30 at most, maybe $20. Its basically a portion of Far Cry 5's open world map re-skinned with the vast majority of Jacob's region being inaccessible due to radiation pollution. Only John and Faith's regions remain mostly accessible.
All I can say about the story without spoiling it is that its just alright, and it is interesting enough to keep you playing it until the end. The final boss is a pain in the ass if you try to beat it with level 2 weapons or below.
Some characters introduced in FC5 come back in this game, others don't, but at least you get notes and recordings that let you know what happened to them, but others get no conclusion at all, leaving their ultimate fate unknown, which I found unsatisfying. It feels like they were rushed to make this game that /should have been a $20 expansion to FC5. 7/10

Not the best Far Cry but still slightly better than Far Cry 5. I enjoyed the way missions were set up more in a linear way again.

Changed it up enough to make it interesting for being a kind oh rehash. 20-30$ new would have been a fine price point. $40 was a bit much. Also, not sure how people are calling this a “woke” game. Lost their minds with this “everything I don’t like is woke” insanity. Expand

At last they fixed the character select screen!
(This time around they actually ask you to select a character instead of just having a static image of two silohettes and no text. They actually had to create a support web page to tell people to select a character for Far Cry 5, to warn that it isn't a load screen.)

Audio options are still an issue. Like Far Cry 5, you can't set sound effects/music/speech volumes, only a single master volume. This is especially annoying as music is quiet, speech is quiet, sound effect are LOUD. I had to keep the remote by me to constantly turn the volume up and down anytime I needed to shoot.
At least subtitles are much easier to read than with FC5.

As for the game: Such a better introduction to the game than Far Cry 5. An actual plot, and story missions! Choices that feel like they mean something (even though they don't) whereas in FC5 they didn't even feel like they mattered.

I found New Dawn a strange experience. Once I figured out how to play the game in a less grindy way, and not needing to buy Farcry Currency, I started to enjoy the world more than Far Cry 5's due to the visual style. I also liked the techno soundtrack a lot, (despite struggling to hear it which is the exact same issue as with Far Cry 5). And I very much liked the better narrated and coherent story of New Dawn, as opposed to Far Cry 5's hands-off method of not revealing any story until you reach the bosses, and then having a very unpredictable ending that comes out of nowhere.

Like with all Far Cry standalone dlc (games inbetween major number releases 1-5), New Dawn is visually striking and very different in tone to any other. Like Blood dragon, and Primal, the game has a vastly different visual style, in this case, extremely high contrast. Compared to the very toned down color palette of Far Cry5, the game is much more visually interesting to look at.

New Dawn feels like a strange hybrid of destiny mixed with a fortnite clone. With the high contrast colours, random supply drops you have to race to before the enemies. Arcadey hitcounters with every shot, and enemy damage levels (level 1,2,3 and elite) which can only be killed with appropriate level weapons (or a lot of grinding and luck with a bad weapon).

The biggest issue with New Dawn, is the sudden and prominent presence of microtransactions, they're hard to miss. Without spending your real money in exchange for Farcry Currency, it means you'll be using very weak weapons, and having to hunt for unarmoured vehicles which won't last long and might even blow up when you climb in, otherwise walking EVERYWHERE. However, the best thing you can do in New Dawn is find and ally yourself with Horatio as soon as possible. Once you start using Horatio, and start upgrading the home base (specifically weapons, max health, hired guns and cartography) plus the perk to disable vehicle boobytraps, the game immediately becomes less frustrating.
I enjoyed walking around the world discovering the various tasks and quests, as it was far less of an issue to stumble into a group of enemies, find their vehicle and drive around for a little while.

Upgrading medkits, vehicles, and explosives are pretty pointless in New Dawn. So leaving those upgrades to last, whilst getting as much ethanol from outposts as possible means you can actually get around the world without constantly dying, and can have a chance of surviving later story missions which really need you to be max level in weapons and health. Also, doing the first couple of levels of the expedition missions earlyish to get the scrap needed for weapon upgrades is a smart idea.

Until I figured out what to focus on upgrading, I was angry at New Dawn constantly punishing players not willing to pay to win (spend real money to unlock rewards in-game). You can only fast travel to liberated outposts, but then you must salvage any liberated outposts for ethanol to have any chance of killing any elite enemies. Upgrading the garage/buying cars is useless in this game, as you can only spawn them from liberated outposts, but you get much-needed ethanol by scavaging liberated outposts, which means you can't spawn them anymore. So until you get fast travel, you're walking everywhere.

Cartography is the most important upgrade as it lets you fast travel, but you can't fast travel to story missions or scavenged outposts, so you must fast travel to the nearest scrap location and walk from there. Once you finally get airdrop fast-travel you can airdrop from these scrap locations and glide to where you actually want to go.

I fear microtransactions will ruin the Far Cry games, and worry what Far Cry 6 will be like.

New Dawn is a couple steps back from FC5 and the only thing that keeps it above average is that it does conclude the story.

I respect that Far Cry is a series that can experiment with its style and genre. The numbered entries are still relatively similar but between those games, we get titles like Blood Dragon, Primal, and now New Dawn (one could throw in FC4 and FC5 DLCs too). They're unique and allow for the franchise to stay fresh even though it's been going on for more than a decade and a half. New Dawn is a looter-shooter RPG with bullet sponges and ranked vehicles/weapons/enemies. It doesn't feel like Far Cry to me, although I appreciate the effort to try something new yet again. Even though this entry doesn't exactly impress me as much as I would have liked, I still love that this series can't go stale and New Dawn keeps that streak going (more or less).
For Far Cry fans, I recommend buying this game at 40 bucks and then spending 20 on in-game weapons. It'll help this feel like Far Cry because you'll be able to get a high-level bow and take people out in one hit. If you don't do that, then you'll need literally hundreds of arrows to take down a high-ranking outpost.

Story - 1/10- There really isn't a story, but what little there is lacks pretty much anything of interest. The twins are boring as can be, have no character, and are not believable in their positions as leaders.

Gameplay - 8/10- Still solid gameplay from far cry. You blow things up, you kill people, animals, and even blow yourself up plenty of times. It is fun to do things your own way

It is fun to do things your own way and to change situations based on your arsenal of choice. Guns are very similar to Far Cry 5, but there is a slight RPG twist on things. It is very minimal, but means you do have to get better weapons if you want to kill harder enemies or those pesky mutant animals.

Overall- 6/10 If you like far cry games you will like this short experience, but don't expect to get much of a lasting impression out of it. This is easily missed though and you wont lose a thing from not playing it. There are a lot of games out there that are better than this and worth your time. If you can get it for free or rent it or something, then you can beat it in a breeze and move on to another game.

Ubisoft just can't help itself and always purposely unbalance games to make you grind. The difficulty jump in the Problem Solver mission is juuuuust redicilous. I wasn't going to spend extra hours to get level 4 weapons just to finish the game. Otherwise, it is a good game. Oh, wow, the frame rate is terrible.

Good story but not as good as Far Cry 5. It is a sequel to Far Cry 5 and I like how the story continues but unfortunately short.
Gameplay is identical to Far Cry 5 so pretty good.
The map and story as I said are short which is a bummer but not a big deal.
Co-op is very fun and is recommended.

Far Cry New Dawn does everything you'd expect from a Far Cry title. However, it failed to deliver the same level of polish and enjoyment its predecessor enjoyed, and while it’s still packed with buckets of fun, I couldn't help shake the feeling that I’ve done all this before.

New Dawn is a clearing of the air after Far Cry 5, but calling it a "new dawn" is preposterous. What we have here is a sideways hop, a purgatory of a sequel in a series that has no idea what to do with itself, beyond giving you another mapful of nodes to flip. [Issue#331, p.116]
