Incredible game this was back on the Xbox 360 and now thankfully it’s got the well deserved upgrade to PS4. But there really isn’t anything great, nothing has changed at all and being a classic or remastered version it’s to be expected. Still a great game and thankful I got it free with Far Cry 5. But I’d steer clear of until the sale comes.

I havnt played far cry 3 before, and with it being released for current gen consoles, being included in the far cry 5 season pass I thought I would go back and play the ps3 version..
after hearing such great things about how this game was robbed for game of the year 2012 by releasing in December.. I was even more excited for what is supposed to be the best game in the far cry series…
And im sorry to break your hearts, but I just don’t see it..
And lets be real.. 2012 we saw the likes of dishonored, assassins creed 3, the walking dead season , lollipop chainsaw, borderlands 2, and journey… get out of here with that robbed nonsense…
Is far cry 3 the best game in the series?
If we don’t count far cry primal, it actually probably is.. that much I agree on.. though Ive never touched far cry 4…
right off the bat, my eyes needed some adjusting.. im geunuinely surprised how bad this only nearly 6 year old game now looks.. I had to get used to the old school graphics to really immerse myself into the world.. thankfully after a couple of hours my brain and eyes did adjust and the negative critiquing ends there..
Because Far Cry 3 while is insanely overrated is stil la really good game
what makes far cry 3 so great is that its so simple and linear… youre placed on a giant island is towers to climb to reveal the map.. its crawling with plants and animals to hunt so you can upgrade your gear, posts to liberate for fast travel points.. and the story is delivered with emotion and great design that we don’t get in the more modern far cry games
I much prefer this delivery style over the recent separate regions, go do things to challenge the region leader nonsense they do now, it pulls everything in and makes It feel personal..
here youl lbe doing a variety of queststhat as you could guess involves a lot of shooting, with the occasional annoying stealth missions thrown in here…
But it never feels like just busy work, I had fun through the whole campaign, and my favorite moments much like in far cry 5 were the moments where youre going through weird hallucinations…
it’s a clever way to create unrealistic levels and bring them into reality and I appreciate that..
and completing quests will reward you with xp that goes towards skill points you can throw in your skill tree
world design however is just okay, not much incentive to explore…
it’s a bunch of greens and blues.. I didn’t feel like much care went into crafting it, but works as land in between missions, and does a great job of coming to life during the main story line..
A story that was again just kind of okay, none of the characters blew me away, there are some surprised in the story.. but nothing that really drew me in or pulled me through to the end..
the pure fun of the gameplay, the shooting, the tower climbing, the hunting.. that’s what kept me going..
there is also co op maps and online multiplayer here but beign a 6 year old game as you would guess theres not many people still playing and there isn’t much to say about it.. its just one of those tacked on multiplayer modes that every AAA ps3 game had
Ultimately I enjoyed Far Cry 3
Its not as great as everyone remembers it being.. it doesn’t hold up..
    but its still decently fun
    I give far cry 3
    a 7.5/10

Don't get me wrong I am a fan of these Remastered games that give me a reason to play through the game again, but it seems that Far Cry 3: Classic Edition is just lacking. Sure it plays the same which is fine. Far Cry 3 is a fun experience and I wouldn't want them to change it. Funny enough though the game feels a bit old in comparison to later Far Cry games. Yet again this isn't a knock against the game at hand, yet it is noticeable while playing.
What my actual gripe with the game is the graphics. They do look better than the PS3 version, but not because Ubisoft went in and worked on it. They look better because it is on a more powerful machine. That is an issue with me when companies do this re-release of a game and do absolutely nothing to make it look better. The best examples of what I want are Shadow of the Colossus looks and plays a lot better than the PS3 version. Or Halo 2 on the Master Chief collection looks amazing; it still plays the same, but they made that game worthy of the new generation.
Overall Far Cry 3; Classic Edition isn't a bad thing to exist in fact I enjoyed going back through playing the game, and experiencing the story that I mostly forgot over time. It just isn't worth more than $10 in my book. If you bought the Gold Edition of Far Cry 5 then you already own it, and you should play that. If you didn't wait for a sale that is the only way this is worth your time. I definitely say BARGAIN BIN this game.

I was expecting a checklist open world game which I have found stale in recent years and while that was exactly what I got, it's the execution that impressed and surprised me. The story is corny but enjoyable with zany characters like hurk and the excellent Vaas who may or may not know the definition of insanity. The main character of Jason is portrayed laughably at times but is far better than having a completely blank slate character. The open world and gameplay loop are the main attraction here however. There are lots of activities and collectibles sprinkled everywhere. The brilliance is that everything you do rewards you in some way. radio towers unlock portions of the map, guardposts act as fast travel points once you clear them and side quests/collectibles reward you with exp that you can spend on worthwhile upgrades in the skilltrees. Hunting the wildlife will also provide you with equipment upgrades like an extra holster or larger wallet and the animals won't hesitate to fight back so be careful. The gunplay while a bit finicky is solid enough to make you feel like a badass as you tear through enemies. Some of the camps have animals trapped that you can set loose some have watchtowers that you can commandeer, these scenarios along with the large arsenal of weapons creates a very fun sandbox to play with. The story missions are also varied and some stand out missions in the middle and the end elevate the campaign and keep you engaged throughout. In conclusion my ferrary through the rook islands was a great romp filled with crazy moment after crazy moment and I can't wait to give the rest of the series a go Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I did not play Far Cry 3 in 2021 as a remaster but as a new full experience since I missed it in 2012, so I can't tell how good it is solely as a remaster, but rather what this video game is in its entirety, looking both at the past and at the present.

The game plot's presentation and opening keep the player nailed in a breathless initial sequence: right from the start, the plot sets the game perfectly for what will be a daring adventure. From there on, most of the plot keeps quality constant and is very well written in the dialogues, the characters are just as well written and of course, yes, Vaas Montenegro stands out among them. There are some memorable moments, such as burning cannabis plantations with a flamethrower to the tune of Damian Marley. It's complex to understand Far Cry 3 plot's nuances. The jungle in which Jason Brody is abruptly thrown does not replace the civilised world in his mind; it does not make him "rediscover himself". On the contrary, it is superimposed on a world that was already there before and which cannot go away and generates in him a trauma, a short circuit, a contradiction. Soon, for Jason, killing Vaas for revenge becomes more important than escaping Rook Islands, being manipulated by Citra; which leads me to wonder: who really "screwed up" Vaas' brain? Who really is "screwing up" Jason's brain? How right Vaas is in telling Jason "You are me and I am you"? Jason's traumatic hallucinations, at least for me, questioned whether the whole adventure was true or just a madness, a schizophrenic dream, until almost the end of the game.

It will be up to the player (in an ending which shouldn't be "a choice") to decide if Jason has been able to grow, to learn something out of this brutal adventure or if "the jungle took him". As shocking as "the evil ending" can be, it simply does not leave anything else than the shock: it's just an end in itself. Nor Jason nor the player will get anything from it.

Far Cry 3's gameplay has been, to some extent, revolutionary and impacted open world games even outside of FPSs. In Far Cry 3 there's shooting weapons and shooting works pretty well, there's a good variety of weapons of many types from short-medium to long range. There is also a wide range of land and sea vehicles and the driving system works just fine. It's the first Far Cry in which stealth plays an important role and the mechanic is, perhaps surprisingly, quite well done. It's also the first Far Cry in which there are three skill trees with different kind of skills with which to grow the player character, by obtaining XPs by killing enemies and completing quests. Both did set important precedents for later Far Cry games. Primary and side quests are carried out in an open world scenario. But, how do you make an open world shooter interesting? Sure, you can create fascinating environments, captivating side quests, but what else can you offer while the character simply walks around in any point of the map? Hunting, for example. Hunt a wild animal (there's wide range of them), sell meat and skin or feathers, or use them to upgrade an item, like a storage bag. Collect wild plant leaf extracts, use them to create antidotes, drugs, first aid treatment. All of this is within reach of the player, so as to potentially keep the it busy at all times. It also creates an economy in the game, a way to buy weapons and ammunition. If stuff is needed, search, hunt, sell and earn. An approach actually already elaborated by Red Dead Redemption, but in Far Cry 3 more extended and improved. Besides all this, sub-secondary activities, such as clearing enemy outposts and recovering information (collectables, among many others) or completing timed deliveries on ATVs or bounty hunting. In short, it is both quantity and quality in Far Cry 3 that make the difference in keeping the player engaged.

There is a "but". The danger of boredom is always around the corner and, despite quantity and quality, even Far Cry 3 can be repetitive. Also, the game's damage from falling is way too high, half the times enough for a instant death, which can be annoying considering the steep terrains and high grounds which Rook Islands open world map naturally lead the player to walk.

Far Cry 3 is nearly 10 years old but still a good-looking game. Dunia Engine has a nice rendering, especially in the environment visuals; Classic Edition improvements boost visuals, still being a mere remastered: 1080p resolution and little more. Lack of 60 frames per second is a bit disappointing, considering it's a old-gen game. The soundtrack, audio editing and voice acting are of great quality.

Far Cry 3 has been an important video game of the last decade which still resonates to this day. For its series it has been a landmark watershed. The game has aged well and is so outreaching that it's recommended for everyone, to experience a video game adventure with intense plot and gameplay.

Animation for Skinning animals need to be skipped or have option in menu.
World feels dead, almost every hut in all the map is empty or taken by pirates. Very few NPCs that all look alike and they almost dont walk around map at all.
Driving is very bad, FC4 improved a lot and FC5 made it perfect.
Sniper zoom in and out is a but bugged on PS4.
Destructibility is very minimal. You cannot chop down trees or bushes with machete.
Caves needs to marked better on map. Some caves took me long time to find entrances.
Press for cash collection? Yeah this game feels old, it should be just “walk over” to collect cash but ok.
Some skills you would use very rarely or almost never, like zipline handgun firing.
You should be able to hold heal for multi heal but it does not work.
Most cars dont have any power to climb hills.
Graphics: game looks dated but definitely is playable. 60FPS should have been enabled.
Enemy AI is very strange. You can be in direct line of sight but crouch and enemy wont notice you 10 meters away.
You can equp 2 syringes but use only 1 per time. Lame.
Menu music is horrible, it needs to have option to turn off.
    Jumping/mantling has bad animation.
You also get no achievement for collecting all relics :(
Side qusts are really not good, they are marked “story quest” but they are almost not related to main story at all. Even all characters look same. There is very little variety.
Not being able to pick up second gun without holsters is horrible game mechanic.
Looting boxes is also boring, only good side is that you are exploring island.

    Tips:
Dont liberate all outposts in the beginning of game. Its much more fun to have active enemies on map.
For fast xp: get relics and letters (250 & 500 respectively). Headshots have 3x kill xp, go for them too.
Don't bother picking up guns from enemies, best guns can be found in shops, unlock them and use them.

    The Goods:
Weapon customisation is great. Syringes mechanic is also fun to use.
Game is very fun, even in 2020, if you never played it I think you'll enjoy. Atmosphere and first "main" villain is fun too. Overall gunplay is good, characters are fun too. It was amazing game when it came out, especially with Multiplayer feature which i loved. PS4 remaster has no multiplayer sadly.
If you want good story, buy this game at discount or get it free with Far Cry 5.
No micro-transactions! I KNOW, RIGHT? Welcome to 2012. Some side-missions are crazy fun.

Below is very quick rundown of all missions, basically the plot (spoilers, obviously).

Spoiler for Story missions: you escape a camp, you do few map-missions, locate one of your friends, find mushrooms, find a ship, get info on next friend, blow up ammo/weapon cache, find second friend. Together they want to fix a boat to leave. You go see Citra, dream of a man and knife. Then you go to badtown. Tail spy. Go burn weed for him. Go find Hoyt. You find a guy who gives you transportation documents with coordinates to find Oliver. You do “snipe from away” mission, rescue Oliver. Come see Buck. Go find a boat, with compass and knife that Buck wants in return of Keith. Then cave. Then lake. You find a knife, save friend and kill buck. Then go to citra. Give her knife and help locals with anbush. Ambush fails and Vaas captures you and tries to drown, you go after him, he shoots you again. Then you go see Citra. Defeat drug-monster and go Kill Vaas. Agent Willis helps you escape island to Hoyt island, you find Sam, go become privateer and help Sam. You try to get liked by Hoyt. Help Sam against pirate rebels. Then you get a list of traitors, show to Hoyt. You find Riley then help Sam with oil tanks and satelite comms. Then you play poker. Hoyt kils Sam, you kill Hoyt
(In most boring QTE possible). You find Riley and fly to your friends. then you have 2 choices: you either join citra or kill your friends . If you join citra, she has sex with you, then “kills” you. If you join friends, citra tries to stop you but your friend accidentally kils citra, then you leave island.

It's been 6 years since the original FC3 was released, but with that amount of time to think about what changes to make, and implement them to perfect an already amazing game I'm surprised that this feels, looks, and plays exactly like the original. I mean, it was nice platinuming this game in a very short amount of time but it doesn't feel like a remaster at all. It feels like a port

Far Cry 3 has one of the best charismatic villains in gaming. The graphics are not the best of course, but do the job. The gunplay play is still fun and the open world is a fun place to mess around in. Full of pirates, crazy ass wildlife and exotic and deadly tribal mythos.

The overtly fast pirate spawn rates can be a bit annoying. The animals are vicious numerous and can be in packs.

The overtly fast pirate spawn rates can be a bit annoying. The animals are vicious numerous and can be in packs. The game has it's level of choas factor. Fighting pirates only to be attacked by animals. Or hunting animals to be attacked by other animals or pirates or both.

A soft green kid going up against hardened pirates, mercenaries and wild animals kind breaks the suspension of disbelief with the story elements. It is definitely a power fantasy sort of game. Random noob, becomes literally a badass Rambo type.

Far from perfect due to the spawns and story issues, but this is a hell of a lot of fun. I forgot how much fun three actually was to play. Oh and better frame rate than the terrible PS3/360 for sure. Primal, Blood Dragon and Far Cry 3 are the peak of Far Cry games.

I'll start by mentioning that I didn't play this on the previous generation so it was my first exposure to Far Cry 3 - and any Far Cry game. I am glad I picked this up as it was a cheap and enjoyable single player experience. It holds true to the typical Ubisoft open world map mechanic - you have to climb towers to expose map areas and capture bases to secure territory from enemies.I'll start by mentioning that I didn't play this on the previous generation so it was my first exposure to Far Cry 3 - and any Far Cry game. I am glad I picked this up as it was a cheap and enjoyable single player experience. It holds true to the typical Ubisoft open world map mechanic - you have to climb towers to expose map areas and capture bases to secure territory from enemies. This game mechanic is fun but there have obviously been improvements upon it since 2012 when it was originally released.

The game play felt a little dated - the cover system was non-existent and falling from any decent height was a death sentence. On top of that up until the game was patched (halfway through my play through) the aiming and driving (in particular) were horrible. Once this was fixed it made my overall experience much better.

The story was enjoyable. Nothing to take seriously - but a somewhat relatable situation where your average Joe gets thrown into a nightmare scenario where he has to rescue his friends. I enjoyed the over the top acting and dialog.

There is enough here to warrant my further exploration into the series - especially considering this was a 6 year old game. I look forward to going back and getting a platinum trophy and playing the other games.

Terrible port. The input lag, motion blur, and the unoptimized framerate on the ps5 makes the game unplayable. I am sad that I spent money thinking I would experience a classic. I shut it off after an hour. Aiming is impossible, the guns shoot like a money printer, aiming feels terrible, and the framerate makes it impossible to enjoy.

All I remember from playing Far Cry 3 back in 2013 was that I liked it quite a bit, nothing amazing, but a game I have fond memories of. This remaster on the other hand... hmmm.

Starting off with what the remaster made better... well i couldn't tell you, there is a slight graphical upgrade but with it come absurd bugs, fps drops, pop-ins, glitches, missmatching audio and a few game-breaking bugs which I don't remember being in the original game. The driving and weapon controls feel incredibly unresponsive at times, to the point where I would try changing a gun 4 times before actually succeeding or essentially having to guess where my car is gonna go regardless of where I'm forcing it to go. There's also annoying and inconsistent fall damage that makes no sense and makes free roam traversal a pain in the ass.

So the remaster fails in every way at being a remaster, breaking what wasn't broken and fixing nothing really. At least the core game it tries to ruin is quite good - sure the story isn't grounbreaking and people seem to forget that Vaas is in the game for less than 15 mins and the real bad guy is generic dark skin drug guy #7, but it's good enough. When it works it feels good to play.

My rating for the OG FC3 - 7.5, my rating for the remaster - 2.5. That makes a total rating of 5/10.

I absolutely love Farcry 3 since it released on ps3. So i was so happy when it was announced on ps4 with updated graphics and gameplay. Although it does look better (not by a large margin) it seems to feel really clunky and awked when trying to aim. I would have much preferred if the went down the route of a full remaster. Despite the promise of stealth gameplay, the game often steers you towards a Rambo-style approach in certain missions. The touted freedom and exploration were underwhelming; I tried to parachute into "The Compound" but found myself repelled by an invisible forcefield when attempting to fly over the wall. Moreover, the constant gameover screens for straying just a few meters from the mission waypoint seriously disrupted my immersion. The only thing i found to be on the positive side was the gunplay. Overall, it was a frustrating letdown that failed to reach its potential.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Far Cry 3 is a game that evokes a mixed bag of emotions. Its quality varies depending on the section of the game being played.

The first two-thirds of the game was a 5/10 rating.
    - The missions with Buck lack excitement, and his character feels exaggerated and uninteresting.
    - Vaas comes across as a cliché insane jungle dweller whose only appeal lies in his witty lines that entice kids to create sigma edits of him. Vaas also come across as incompetent, he fails to kill Jason multiple times.
    - The gameplay loop in this section was just boring, would not recommend it.

However, the game improves for the last third to a 7/10, but it's too little too late.
    - The setpieces and main missions becoming more engaging and intense.
    - The stakes are higher, with the main character's younger brother being captured and then there is this sense of urgency to rescue Jason's friends.
    - The introduction of Sam was a good choice for the cast, his banter and camaraderie with Jason was welcome.
    - Hoyt and his goons were more compelling than Vaas, they posed a more significant threat to the player.

    Problems prevailing in both sections:
    - Pop-in issues and frame rate problems make the game look unattractive, and its graphics fail to impress.
    - QTEs for bosses detracts from the experience.
    - Side quests were boring
    - Outposts and Beacons were tedious. Clear waste of the player's time.
    - Travelling across the map is a chore, especially since the areas look homogenous and the cars drive like they are on ice.
    - The voice acting and sound engineering both fall short, with most performances being horrible, and the voices sounding as if they were recorded through a low-quality microphone.
    - Vaas failed to become the great villain that the game had built him up to be. The expectation was that he would rival the likes of Handsome Jack, but the reality fell short.
    - Far Cry 3 comes across as a poor man's Borderlands or a Btec of Horizon Zero Dawn when it comes to hunting and resource management.

it's hard to recommend Far Cry 3. If this is the best that the franchise offers, I'm glad I have no plans to play any other games from the series.

You have a variety of weapons, loadouts, tools, to choose from and the resource management element of the game is well done. The guns all play differently, and you can use multiple approaches to completing your missions--stealth, gung-ho, sniper etc..

Story is a bit far-fetched when you actually sit down to think about it; an 18 year old party boy with zero military experience turned into a master killer / assassin overnight that would rival John Wick. Supporting characters within the game have very fun and memorable personalities.

Gameplay still holds up for sure in terms of flexibility. Being given the ability to tackle a situation however you see fit is always a welcome edition to an open world game.

For new-comers this game will be a must-play. For returning players there's really no point in experiencing this again.

But the story is the best part, the story of Jason Brody is one that the games of today have failed to live up to. The map is nicely designed and the same applies to discovering new parts of the map, as is usual with Ubisoft by climbing the towers. Climbing the towers is a walk in the park in the beginning, but gradually it becomes quite depressing and it depends on how broken the given tower is. The open world is amazing... You can do almost anything. Do you just want to kill Vaas' pirates? Not a problem. Do you just want to hunt wild game for fun? As you wish. Do you want to focus only on the story campaign? you can. The story here is for me the best of all Far Cry games, if not even of all Ubisoft titles. You can understand Jason's motivations for why he does all this and why he murders all those pirates. The ending of the game is great and the possibility to have a decision about how the whole story ends is also a pretty nice icing on the cake. So Michal, are you trying to tell me that the game is completely flawless and everyone should play it? Like everyone should play it, but there aren't many flawless games. I know this will sound a bit like a skill issue, but I found the game unnecessarily demanding in some parts. Yes, I played on the third difficulty, but that doesn't mean that I can spend an hour or more on one mission. The main villain, Hoyt, is just so MEH. He basically has no charisma except for the last 3 story quests. I still really enjoyed the game and I stand behind the fact that it is the best game in the series Expand

Far Cry 3 still offers damn good time, and the Classic Edition is a great way to revisit Ubisoft’s influential classic or dive into it with fresh eyes. The tried-and-tested formula has advanced in recent years, leaving some aspects of Far Cry 3 to feel aged and inconsiderate, which could be too high a hurdle for newcomers to overcome.

Far Cry 3 Classic Edition is a compelling journey into the past of the Ubisoft series. The game is still solid and enjoyable, full of things to do while exploring the island, but the remaster could have been better.

This is a very straightforward port of Far Cry 3, a game loved and loathed in equal measure. The Classic Edition is a great way for newcomers to experience one of the best games in the series, despite some clunky controls. Many people will have made up their mind about Jason's journey years ago, but on its own merit, this is a competent re-release of a fun, if a little dated, open world shooter.
