Don't buy a game unless you understand what it is. This is an online survival game based on ARK/Rust. It is very well made with an amazing environment. It's not a singleplayer Fallout game.

I'm playing in ultra on a 4k monitor (its beautiful). I LOVE it. It is a bit "lonely" with no NPCs, but I love the survival mechanics and base building. So far it is mostly a "treasure grind" but I kind-of like that too. If you were expecting a PUBG or Fortnight fast-paced intense multiplayer, this wont be for you. NPCs there were annoying anyway. Good Riddance! (8/10 because of the few bugs and b/c the inventory and limit is still clunky). Expand

Didn't expect much, but game surprised me. I don't understand all the hate for Fallout 76. There is bugs yes (it's Bethesda game, remember?), but still fun to play, especially with friends.

Albeit negative reviews from angry kids, this game is fun! I had over 15 hours of play time where I enjoyed myself and had tons of funny created moments with other players. PVP is not mandatory which is amazing!
Sure, the engine is dated and there's a bit of uncanny feel to it, but trust me you will have funYYYYY

For me my experience with the game has been phenomenal. I was incredibly skeptical at first but then I played the Beta with my friends and it won me over. I will say this right out of the gate, it's NOT a typical Fallout game and it's designed for a very particular group of fans that have been asking for this, albeit it does not fit exactly what we asked for but does a good job getting close. The rest of this review will be pertaining to my own personal experience with the game, not what others have dealt with.

While the world does feel lifeless that doesn't really take away from the overall experience. Sure I miss the personalities of the NPC's but even with all of them gone I still get the Fallout vibe from traveling around the map. The quest system is unique and they REALLY put a lot of work into building up the lore around most of them. The main issue is that it's not spoon fed to you and you have to look around for a note or a holotape to get the full story. I personally love this approach and I'm not being distracted by some random NPC bugging out because it's a Bethesda game either, so that's another plus.

The gameplay is by far the most fun out of all the previous releases. Combat is solid and now that they've patched out the framerate lock on PC it's even better. The game isn't very difficult, especially if you're with a group. Being in a group offers many perks too. From perk card sharing, bonus xp, and whatever else you and your friends can make up along the way. I can't count how many hours I spent trying to get to a specific objective only for my friend to discover something else and we go and check it out and then we find something else and check that out and so on only for us to have ended up going in the complete opposite direction of the objective and being lost in the world.

Solo is probably the biggest downside to the game but then again it was NEVER marketed to be a singleplayer game. If you went in thinking you'd get the maximum amount of enjoyment out of this by yourself then you're a fool because it was clearly designed to be played with a group. That's not to say you can't play it alone, you certainly can but I think it kind of negates the true purpose of the game and therefore you can't really complain that it wasn't tailored to you, since they never intended it to be.

I see a lot of people complaining about bugs, I've seen videos about bugs too, I personally have only experienced one bug and that was the game crashing while loading into a world. That was easily solved by lowering my graphics settings. Other than that I have yet to experience anything else that would warrant complaining about. The worst would be an enemy stuck in t-pose as it loads in but then as I got closer it would correct itself.

My biggest complaints are that the stash size is too small and they do a poor job explaining a lot of the basic things that you will be doing constantly, like perk cards and blueprints for you camp. The stash size is going to be increased in a later patch and I understand how the perk cards work. The blueprint thing I still don't get all too much but I found a good spot to leave my camp anyway so I don't intend on moving it. The camp system is a bit janky at times too but that's more my own personal tastes as opposed to being a fault of the game. It's not the games fault that I want to build a house boat out in the middle of a lake and I can't because the foundations don't reach the bottom. That's mine for wanting to put it in a place it clearly can not go.

All in all the game has been incredibly fun so far. When I'm playing by myself I'm usually exploring new areas, capturing a workshop, collecting materials for crafting or all three in preparation for when I play with my friends. I enjoy it by myself because it's nice to pop on the classical radio while I rummage through a blown out factory or take down a mob of ghouls in the woods, occasionally running into another player where I offer them some purified water and rad-away (since I easily have over 100 of each after 2-3 hours). Then when my friends are on we get working on those quests or at least try to, not really, one of us ends up getting side tracked and then we all end up getting side tracked. Plus you can't really beat the sense of accomplishment from successfully defending your workshop from a level 50 Scorchbeast or taking down a level 95 Scorchbeast Queen with 20 other players after someone drops a nuke.

In closing it's a fun game if you want it to be and if you didn't let your expectations cloud what it really, which all it is is a multiplayer open world survival game with the Fallout flair tacked on to it. It's clearly not meant for everyone, judging by the overwhelmingly negative reviews but for those of you who may be interested in it, I recommend seeing if a friend will let you try it out first or if possible then rent it.

The moral of the story is to read the content of the reviews rather than looking at the score.

I don't write many reviews but when I saw Fallout 76 was getting inundated with 0's and 1's I had to set the record straight with an honest review to oppose the punitive Tantrum Reviews. The eagle eyed amoung you might notice that I have given games a zero before but that's only because they were completely unplayable and/or the game description said the game was something that it wasn't.

Personally, I find the game to be amazing. I love the fact that I can play Fallout with friends. I've been dying for that for a very long time. The entire system is very familiar from Fallout 4 so the learning curve is very shallow for people who have played that game. I do miss the human NPC's sometimes but only just.

If you liked Fallout 4 there's just no reason to not love Fallout 76. Did I mention you get to play a Fallout game with friends??????

    The good:

The graphics are amazing with stunning textures.
As usual, the character animations are nearly flawless.
The quests are typical Fallout quests which is good because I like those quests.
It's very stable for only a few days out of release.
The anti-griefing measures seem to be working well.

    Cons:
No human NPCs can be a little disconcerting.
I had a few lost connections on day 1. None since then.

To me the lack of human NPC's just makes the story better and the robots are full of witty remarks and holotapes are full of great stories.

There is nothing like exploring the wasteland with a buddy doing quests, building our camp and taking down a tough enemies. Over the 15 hours of gametime me and my friend have only discovered a small part of the map, that shows the game does not lack any content. This game does come with a fair share of it's problems, the constant bugs that has soured my experience once. For example my friend died and dropped his resources and then got booted off the server. It was extremely annoying but we got more resources for him in 2 hours of game play. Fallout 76 is the most fun I had with a fallout game, if Bethesda can patch these glitches and make some improvements to the game world like ( putting a marker on the map so other players can see if you're a trader selling goods. Fallout 76 isn't for everyone but if you love Fallout and have a buddy to play with please give this game a chance .

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY REVIEW PRIOR TO APRIL 14th 2020! This is due to the free "Wastelanders" update that came out on that day. this update included new factions, new weapons, a horde of new enemies, 40 new named locations (don't quote me on that, rough estimate), new quests, with a new main questline to boot, instances (so other players can't walk into the same interior, kill everything and leave), actual meaningful descisions, Fallout NV style dialogue, and most importantly, human NPC's. It's because of this that Wastelanders has made 76 a significantly different game than what it was at launch. i first played 76 about a week after it launched. i thought it was 'okay', nothing special. with in a week i reached level 15, and i stopped playing. when i heard that wastelanders was coming i started playing again at around early march with a new character. I had a better time, but that was due to that i somewhat knew what i was supposed to do this time. i played on and off for the next month, i actually stopped myself playing because i wanted to start off wastelanders as not too OP, and level 30 seemed like a nice compromise. I ended up deciding to star over anyway at launch sooo...

Upon release day, i was excited to see what this would bring, as i had tried my best to avoid spoilers. i started up the game when the fallout twitter account said it was live. I made a new character again, this time there was some dialogue from the Mr. Handy bots inside the vault, saying that they can't pretend its reclamation day any longer. i picked up the essential items and left the vault. When at the wayward, i was given the opportunity to help them by (It's early game story, so its technically a spoiler, but not a big one, skip to the next paragraph to avoid it) killing a gang of raiders, i made a compromise and let them live, but once i found some rare weapons. i went to the wayward and they were holding everyone hostage, so i bribed them with the legendary rifle and they tried to leave, but as they weren't hostages anymore, i shot the gang leader and the rest of the group, i got my legendary back somehow (wasn't on anyones corpse). my raider reputation fell, and dutchess just said that so long as everyone's okay. earlier i needed to find a pristine robot body for an assaultron head, but i could assign them to other types of robots too (i didn't, i found an assautron body).

Since then it has been a mix of base game story quests and the new quests, but the old quests have had small tweaks (adds some humans, changes how you get the quest etc). as of my time of writing this, i have played for around 8-10 hours of the DLC, i'm at level 10 and it has given me just as much enjoyment as when i had first played fallout 4. my ONLY complaint is that you need to get to level 20 to continue with the main story after the wayward, but its really just a case of doing the old quests, then coming back. i Enjoy Fallout 76 now more than ever, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who might be interested.

My time in this game has been enriched by the people I've found, and we've only had the game for a couple of weeks now.

This game is also a Fallout game. There is immersive storytelling, a dark and interesting world, and a lot of fun, punchy gameplay. I find the contextual storytelling in this to be up there with the best games in the fallout series, and I have been constantly surprised at how well the writers can get me to emotionally invest in characters with only a few emails or a note left behind when they died.

For the rest, please play the game before judging it harshly. Stash size limits, an empty world, or any of the other WORST THINGS EVER all tend to fade into the background in the face of the fun experience of playing the actual game.

Bugs are around but given the merge of the Creation Engine with the Quake Netcode, there still are plenty of things to be ironed out. While I cannot give it a full 10/10, Fallout 76 in my opinion deserves an 8/10 for stretching it's fingers into the melting pot of West Virginia.

Instead of NPC's abound, we have robot traders, and robot events due to lore reasons. Many people cannot see past this because they are use to being hand-fed things to do, well Fallout 76 doesn't do that too much, it gives you more of a choice than ever before. Don't do the main story, that's fine; want to be a total wanderer, that's fine too. While not suited to all players, Fallout 76 gives a new test and trial to the wasteland.

Many players, and reviewers have followed the hate train into the ground, and are not very constructive with their reviews, it's sad and pathetic really.

This game doesn't deserve the crap it's getting. It may be buggy, but it's less so than even New Vegas and 4 were on launch. I have legitimately bought two copies of this game, to play with both Ps4 and PC friends. (Even then, a good 30% of my time has been spent playing solo, which I actually prefer!) This game has immersion in spades. There is so much attention to detail and the way this game delivers environmental or holotape story to enjoy on your own terms is the ONLY way this could ever work. They are letting you enjoy the story at your own pace, when you are in the mood for it. The survival elements are light, the questing and events are worlds better than MMOs. The enemy variety HAS NEVER BEEN THIS GOOD. This game has variety in weapons/mods, even food and cosmetic clothing in spades, and on launch offers outfits that let you look how you want while wearing the best armor you can find. Just about all of these only way 0.1 pounds!

What did we really lose? Fallout 4's dialog options were terrible! 3's honestly weren't that much better. And New Vegas was a different developer. Even though we've lost the ability to pick dialog options and the leveling system is a far cry from the original fallout, the perk system has SOOOOO much potential for easy upgrading and re-balancing with the best build potential Fallout has ever had. Fallout 76's story feels like you are picking through what remains of a post-nuclear world, and the devs have focused on what they're good at. Environmental storytelling. Every random robot NPC has so much charm and character, from story-reading nanny bots sprinkling advertisements for Robo-Co into her Hansel and Gretel story, walking advertisements showing up behind you to tell you that "YOU'VE WON," giving you anything from 100 Post world money, to pointless vouchers with random text, or junk. These are the random encounters!

This game has a lot of factions ranging from known to brand new and very believable factions, with one of my easily favorite stories comes from the equivalent of a Comic Book Hero faction. I won't spoil anything more than keep an eye out for dead ladies in nice black dresses.

Just, try it. Hit level 10-15, get your hands on a pump-action shotgun that reloads just the number of slugs you've used from your clip. (Looking at you New Vegas.) This game gets more and more satisfying the more you play it, with exponentially more amazing perks from the 20s, to 30s, and then 40s.

I regret ever bashing Bethesda for this game! I have had nothing but great times and now that I know wtf I'm doing and playing with friends everyday this game is on another level and we all just didn't see it! but now I see it, I see the amazing item complexity's and crafting builds in retrospect to the amazing perk card system that allows you to swap loadouts on perks. just wish there was a way to save loadouts and swap them without doing it manually. I see the massive amounts of level depth and planning the first time I took posiden energy plant with a full squad and now every time I catch the cute easter eggs hidden in inanimate objects, graffiti, termanals, and blood scrawled notes on the corpse of dead raider joe, Yes this game is buggy as hell, Yes I have 400+ triple A titles in my steam library, but you know what. But this is one of the best games ive played in a long time and I really wish it had a better launch, people were way to quick to judge just like I was by some fluke I kept playing and I think its one of the best things that ever happened. Sorry for my poor grammar and the long rant of a review but I feel this game will have a spot in history as the game that surprised the world when it picks up steam in reviews again. and it will just look at ESO same story not as great a game but it fleshed out to be a really good MMO, Cheers to all you still trending the wasteland at least you know what I know, Expand

The biggest issue I have with this game is that it is, basically, Fallout 4. This isn't really a problem since FO4 was a fantastic game. I would have liked to see something new added though, to be honest, I can't really think of what that would be. This is also a plus, as unlike Elder Scrolls Online, there is no mistaking that FO76 is a modern Fallout game. (Full disclosure, I also enjoy TESO).

I do not tend to review games, at the most, i have reviewed three others on another platform, but this time, i had to stand up because enough is enough!

Now i know people have a right to their own opinion, to what they believe is the best game, or to make it the best game, or a great game, and i will never deny anyone their right to do so.

But this is Fallout, this is the series that i love the most, more than any other game franchise around. It hurts to see people so hateful, so angry, so willing to throw negative reviews for such spiteful reasons. This happened for Fallout 4 as well, and fans did this for New Vegas, and for Fallout 3. Heck some did it for Fallout Tactics, even Fallout 2 being such purists.

So where does it stop? When does this Fallout game hating end? I like the game, yes, but there are aspects that drive me crazy enough that i would have given it a zero too, yes. But you know what makes me different? Do you know why i have no love for Todd Howard or Bethesda, and how he keeps throwing out games that are not ready, or that each game tends to break some aspect of lore until it is explained and fixed, or why they choose the choices they did for a game, even if it did piss so many people off?

I'm here to simply have fun playing Fallout, if i have fun, if i enjoy playing, I'll keep coming back, if not, then I'll come back eventually when I'm bored, but i just want to play. Not want the latest graphic engine, the best immersive NPC's, the perfect gaming experience, even the perfect match with lore, i just want to play! That i can play with other players now, cool, that they are working on patching the game, good, no game is perfect at launch, no matter how many years it is taken. I just want to play, not hear people, or see people in the case of my video feeds and channels, endlessly complain and complain and complain. Play it or don't, have fun or don't, If you cannot figure out the story, or why the only NPC's (and yes, there are NPC's) are there, it's not my place to explain it.

So either just play, and have fun, and let those of us who do like it have fun, or just calm down, say your peace, and go, for if you cannot say anything constructive with your criticism, then do not say anything at all, cause personally, I'm tired of this toxic fan base.

My experiences so far through ~2hrs of full game and ~10-12 of beta (mostly co-op with friends in beta) have been 95% good to great. Had one bad bug that kept from collecting loot/junk, but simply rebooting the game fixed it and hasn't happened since. So with close to 15 hours of gameplay I just hit lvl 15 before logging off this morning, and I've (iirc) only done the first ~2-3 mains story missions. Unlike most others, I find the game quite enjoyable. It does not lack bugs - as does any bethesda release - and therefore I do not feel the need to emphasize on that any further. Having no HUMAN NPCs is not that bad, and it servers an interesting plotline and strongly explains what happens to them within the game itself.

There are some bugs and network issues that are pretty annoying. I've had my CAMP despawn into individual parts and even lost some expensive built pieces during the process. My fast travel point constantly puts me underwater. The lack of human NPCs seems like a huge oversight since there is evidence of people being almost everywhere. This game isn't a MMO and doesn't come with all the flaws MMOs typically have. Most of the gameplay is so singleplayer, that you wouldn't notice you are actually in a MP game. Grieving is none-existent right now.

People who are used to the Fallout singleplayer games might have problems with this title though. The only reason for this is, that there are no human npcs. All humans are players. If you don't embrace that it might feel "empty". Thats an illusion though. Because of people being upset about it, it might have been a bad decision by Bethesda to do it like that, but the game is amazing. A real singleplayer game done in multiplayer and its full of content. Just no babbling human skinned NPCs, but its still story rich and huge, full of stuff to do.

Just make sure you like to play with others, this is the biggest part of the fun in this world. I can't stop playing alone too, though.

I don’t know why everyone is hating this game. I think that it is a fun Fallout game. I have played all the Fallouts, and I love every single one. I know that some of my friends liked the Fallout games as well but they weren’t as hyped to play them alone, so this really helps them play a Fallout game with me and other friends.

So utterly disappointing and flawed in every possible way… The first few hours, most of it can be ignored, and occasionally the flaws can be forgotten, but only briefly before they come storming back to the forefront. An awful, boring, empty, pointless experience. There is, however, a glimmer of hope. It's worth mentioning that there has already been a Bethesda title that was equally as unimpressive: The Elder Scrolls Online - but looking at it now, it has transformed into one of the best MMOs out there. There's always the hope the Fallout 76 develops the same way and becomes something special, but for now, that seems impossible. It's a world away from that.

Fallout 76 isn't your typical fallout experience. You don't have NPCs or dialogue, but instead get real players that should fill this void - that ultimately fails to do so. It does some things right, but as of now I cannot recommend getting this game as long as it stays a broken and boring mess that it is right now.

Fallout 76 is the series’ Freshman introduction into the world of online, multiplayer games. As a result, we are experiencing all of the awkwardness and clumsiness associated with that season of life. It is imperfect and a bit uncomfortable, but I see opportunity for Fallout 76 to be more than it presently it - to be a truly great, rich Fallout experience.
