I loved the game since the first moment. It's one of the best.
Well, the negatives reviews are a lie. Not opinions, but lies. 100% false, I can assure you. I don't know why this... (I don't know if I can call them people) are saying this kind of stuff, but they lie. Try it for yourself, and then decide.

I have no idea how people are rating this game so poorly. That is not to say I didn't have a few disappointments, but just because something is different it doesn't make it bad. That is not to say I didn't have a few disappointments, but just because something is different it doesn't make it bad. If you wanted Fallout 3 or New Vegas, you can go back and play those. If you want a RPG like the Witcher 3, go play NG+ on it. For me, Fallout 4 seems like a fresh start and new approach to what Fallout games will be like on the new generation of systems.

    The Good:
Crafting: Customizing weapons, armor, buildings, and battle armor add a layer to the game that is exciting. Instead of hoping you come across an overpowered plasma rifle mid game, you can now build your own damage dealing death machines. You want your armor to look different and distinguish you? Go make some new pieces. You would like to build your own wasteland paradise? Now you can. You bored of your old T60 power armor? Give it a paint job and some more powerful add-ons. +++

Scavenging: Nothing was more disappointing then wasting a good amount of bobby pins on a lock in Fallout 3 and NV to get into a room with only Pre-War Money and Wonderglue. Now, because of the crafting system, I am stoked as hell to find cameras, duct tape, glue, and other pieces of junk. Scavenging now is important, and varies the loot to the point where you care about more than caps and ammo. +++

Atmosphere: The Commonwealth is alive and busy. The landscape varies (opposed to the blasted deserts of F# and FNV. When you get to the large city, it feels alive and full (I was very disappointed with New Vegas when I got there). The changes in weather besides night and day add a wonderful feel. +++

    Contentious:
Graphics: Yes, not the best. However, I don't mind them as much as many other folks. It is easy to forget how few loading screens there are when you are wandering around the commonwealth. A map that large is going to take up a chunk of the memory. I would rather have a larger open world then a smaller one with better graphics. ++/-

    Dialogue:
Options are very limited, and often very simplistic, with truly only 3 choices to every interaction. I do not mind this as much as other folks because there is a richer amount of dialogue in general. The companions also make interesting comments as you wander the wastes, which is refreshing. +/-

    The Bad:
Stat System: Truly the only part of the game in which I was disappointed. Your SPECIALS seem particularly useless unless used to get to higher level perks. You no longer have skills / skill points, which is an interesting twist. Navigating the perks for your build is difficult, and some seem necessary to truly enjoy the game to its full extent, while not seeming important otherwise. -

Overall: It is a great game, it is fun, engaging, and different. People on Metacritic are comparing it to the Witcher 3, which is a total mistake. It is well known that the Witcher 3 set the bar for Next Gen games, but just because the Royals won the World Series doesn't mean the Mets are a **** team. Enjoy the game for what it is, temper your expectations of what you think it should be, and you may be surprised and just how enjoyable and exciting exploring the Commonwealth can be.

I've already posted a few instagram photos of the bugs in this game be it traders stuck on roofs or my companion swimming while in a second story building. I think I've been fortunate in not experiencing the ground busting glitches some have experienced.

I think its safe to call this game middle of the road in terms of what I expected in Fallout 4. I have praise for the crafting system which can be very enjoyable at times or a complete pain in the butt. Almost everything is used for crafting which can be overwhelming at times. Trying to provide a supply of chemicals for bombs and food for cooking and material for your weapons can have your backpack filled in one zone if you take absolutely everything. Still it can be fun to fully mod the 10mm pistol or for me the .44 mag and go dirty Harry on everything.

The settlement building and maintenance I found provided nothing for me. In my current playthrough I've only decided to build up Sanctuary and add random customization when bored. The others I care little about and defend them when the odd attack occurs or just leave them since I've found no consequences for my actions.

Graphically I have to agree with many that it is no leap from Fallout 3 or Elder Scrolls to Fallout 4. Feels slightly more improved but character animation can be sluggish or just silly (insert Youtube vids on the matter) The most stunning visuals I found was the Glowing Sea which actually gave me the sense of post apocalyptic disaster. Long distant views the frame rate can drop and look depleted which takes away from the sense of exploration. On the other hand the mini nuke still looks very nice when going off.

The voice acting I can find no fault with as with Fallout and Elder Scrolls it can be a pillar of the game when driving the story along. The characters so far have been well done some are what you expect in cliche and heck some are just a waste of script but when trying to populate Boston I expect things to get muddy.

I think the story has been pretty good so far. I'm not going to give it an Oscar with any "I want my son back!" kind of plot but heck still not bad even if it tries to come off as Blade Runner (for me anyways). Consequences, tough choices I've yet to see anything that would test that. I can't start the game then start rampaging a village at least I don't think so (miss you Las Vegas). I'm not saying that is a deal breaker but the sense of hopelessness, the fight against "evil" I'm just not enticed like I expected. Some missions are repetitive, "get this for me" "great" "get another thing for me" or "Go kill all these bad guys" reminds me of WOW grinding

I'm a sucker for exploring and I think just like Fallout 3 it does this very well. From the mayors bunker, food depots, rail yards, radar towers etc it can be a lot to dig through while picking up all the goodies inside. Combat can be sloppy, I haven't noticed any gun lag but I almost never use VATS and yet I recall it being a life saver in Fallout 3. Unless I'm trying to pick off a target with a bolt action that's closing in on me I never touch it.

I give it a 7/10 because I like the voice acting I like most of the customization it has allowed me and though I dare to call this a next-gen game I think it adds some interesting features to the Fallout series but does not break the mold from what I expected.

First off Ill start with the pros of the game. Its an entertaining game and will keep players going for hours on end. However the story line offers no immersion for the player often feeling very forced especially with the new voice options ( all four buttons offer options but often just yes and no answers, all resulting in the same future series of events). Previous games main stories seemed to keep players drawn to the game but this offers nothing more than "Wheres my Son" and some side missions almost as if Liam Neeson had to go off and raise the money before going to look for his daughter in taken.
Side missions dont know have the same feel as they did in previous games. Both the Minutemen and the Brotherhood of steel follow the same pattern go here, talk to X, go and clear out where X asks you to, return to X, then return to who started the quest. Needless journey time between places and similar stories just leave the game feeling repetivive. This also leads to a situation where exploring the wasteland seems pointless and they areas you find come up on these missions with the same plots leaves it feeling boring unlike previous games which had so many different things going off if you took a walk (remember the Republic of Dave in fallout 3).

Good but very average game, storyline and game play leave a lot to be desired, new features such as the settlement building feel more like time filler than interesting play. Would recommend not paying full price for this but wait for a cheaper second hand version.

Probably my most anticipated game of the back half of the year, I'm sad to say I feel fairly disappointed now that I have literally completed everything in the game. Saw all endings, wasn't impressed by any of them. AndProbably my most anticipated game of the back half of the year, I'm sad to say I feel fairly disappointed now that I have literally completed everything in the game. Yes, everything short of the random encounters you can't control. Every side quest, every misc quest (yes, I got a list to see if I had done them all), and every trophy. Saw all endings, wasn't impressed by any of them. And this all took about 125 hours of total game time.

125 hours is nothing to scoff at and it would be nice if many more single player games gave half as much but I came to the realization that a huge amount of that time was spent messing with settlements - and not really enjoying it. IMO, settlements aren't worth the time because the biggest benefits to maintaining settlements - access to scavaged goods, food, caps from traders, and traders themselves - is outweighed by the fact that the player must take all the requisite perks to make those things worthwhile. But taking those perks means you end up earning more by simply exploring, you never hurt for food or drink or ammo, and there are so many crafting stations throughout the Commonwealth that you don't really NEED a settlement to mod your armor, weapons, or craft chems or food. Settlements don't even provide a sense of community as the NPCs are mindless drones named "Settler" or some such and are awkward to assign to tasks. The entire process of building and maintaining a settlement is a frustrating experience and unless you're truly insane the Benevolent Leader achievement/trophy isn't worth the time. Realistically, settlements only exist to pad player gametime and force players to handicap themselves by carrying around loads of junk to tote to each workstation.

The gameplay outside of the settlements is largely the same as Fallout 3 except the gunplay is a lot better... at least once you can stop relying on the god awful pipe weapons that you're practically forced to use early in the game. I won't complain that it's too much like FO3 because that's good enough for me but the world felt so very lifeless and non-threatening. Outside of the main city of Boston, you barely run into enemies. If you've leveled up just by exploring like many of us have done those enemies are completely trivial. Deathclaws were literally the only things I feared. Super Mutants, Mirelurk Queens.. meh, no problem. I still don't understand how they weighed stats, especially for conversations. With 10 charisma and the Gift of Gab perk and 3 stars in Lady Killer, I was still failing most of my charisma conversation rolls against women. And forget even trying with men. I couldn't make heads or tails of it.

The story made an OK amount of sense but I couldn't help but feel they stole a page straight out of Mass Effect's playbook with the Institute. Not to mention the Institute's world view is ALMOST the same as the Brotherhood of Steel (only we can be trusted with technology/saving the world from itself/redefining humanity as we see fit, et cetera) so it didn't really feel like a threat. I honestly found myself missing the Enclave.

I enjoyed my time with the game but ultimately I feel that Fallout 4 was mostly candy that didn't truly satiate my hunger for the Fallout franchise, for lack of a better metaphor. Unlike Elder Scrolls, which has a lot more replay value in having different classes, insane amounts of skills and trees, and so many different branching story arcs, I can't see a reason to play FO4 again until the DLC (and only if said DLC is of decent quality). I will say that I only had two crashes and two texture bugs (not including settlement building which is nothing BUT texture bugs) during my entire playtime which was quite the refreshing change following the insanity that was the Fallout 3 launch on PS3.

About 8 hours into my first character I go into someones shack and steal an empty cola bottle when no one is looking. Unknowing that everyone has psychic powers the entire town teleports through the door and guns me down. Following a load screen I respawn in the same place with everyone shooting me I die again. This repeats until eventually my PS4 crashes and I'm forced to start the game from scratch. So far on my second character and much further into the game nothing game breaking has happened yet but I feel like I have to be very careful which is not a problem I should be having.

So Fallout 4 is a buggy mess and I would have awarded a higher score if it hadn't been however, probably not that much higher as the game itself isn't really very good.

The game has a very stupid and intrusive 'government took ma be-beh' storyline. The worst thing about this is every time you speak with an NPC your character insists on telling them something that you already know and don't care about for the entire game.

Dialogue choices that don't matter is something that really annoys me about modern games and Fallout 4 does it all the time which is a massive problem for an RPG with so many of them.

The game world is massive and exploring it is probably the most fun thing to do in the game. There are loads of missions and side quests but unfortunately everything you do feels like busy work. There is so much busy work in Fallout 4 I had to quit my job in real life just to figure out how base building works as there is no real tutorial or explanation for it in the game.

The combat aspect is weak. Shooting is not satisfying. You don't really feel like your hitting anything unless you use VATS which is essential when the dumb enemy AI just runs at you and there's nothing you can do about it.

Far too much inventory management, constantly having to drop items because I'm over my equip burden. Ultimately though it's all the load screens which really puts me off. Dying, fast travel, going into buildings. Every few seconds a load screen is there to break the immersion and illusion of the open world.

Fallout 4 just looks and feels old, in it's bland missions, uninspired level design and creaky game engine. Some people may be able look past these flaws and throw themselves into all the busy work. I am not one of them.

The wasteland is rich and detailed with many interesting locations to discover as well as many disturbing monsters, raiders and robots to fight. Gunplay has been improved and vats is no longer the primary way to dispatch of feral ghouls and Death Claws! Combat feels more comfortable and it is a lot easier to use weapons without the vats system. Thats not to say vats isn't necessary, because it is espesially if you want to play tactically and it really helps when facing hordes of beasts or much larger enemies.

Story is interesting and the many side quests appeal. Fallout is a dark world and many quests give you a sense of wonder as you explore the wasteland further. I enjoyed the many interactions with the rich characters you meet.

Graphically there have been improvements. Personally I love the graphics style and I'm happy that it feels familiar to Fallout 3. There have been some complaints about character models and texture pop in etc but it really didn't bother me because I was so invested in the world that I found the graphics to be fine.

The soundtrack is again awesome carrying over many of the well known Fallout 3 songs and adding a few new ones, although I would have like to have seen another hour or two of new music added since you are going to put in 100's of hours.

Another neat new addition is the build mode, you are tasked with building a town, giving it power, lights, beds, furnishings etc. It's a nice little add on that you can lose hours in.

Overall I love Fallout 4. Because I am having so much fun with the game I'm barely noticing any issues with it, yes there's the odd glitch but nothing that has ruined gameplay or caused me to reload. I'm thoroughly enjoying it and highly recommend it to any fans of the previous games and new players too.

Graphics are not the end all be all of a game, there are plenty of games who's interactive narrative and game play more than make up for lacking aesthetics, but considering this game was essentially built on top of an existing engine you would think that freed up some development time to refine what they were making for it. This simply doesn't appear to be the case. In fact with theGraphics are not the end all be all of a game, there are plenty of games who's interactive narrative and game play more than make up for lacking aesthetics, but considering this game was essentially built on top of an existing engine you would think that freed up some development time to refine what they were making for it. This simply doesn't appear to be the case. In fact with the exception of the gun and character models and improvements to the shading you'd be forgiven for thinking anything had changed at all.

The settlement building strikes me more as merely an after thought, it lacks both content and refinement. The snap-to-grid is often seemingly arbitrary and the complete lack of window pieces and single door frame is just bizarre given the scale of customisation hinted at during revealers. The impression of the builder at first is that it would function much like Rust's/ARK's builder that some gamers might be familiar with, but it simply does not have the same level of functionality. It can only be assumed that Bethesda included the basics and hoped that the modding community would pick up where they left off; which really smacks of laziness more than anything. Needless to say this feature is frustrating more than anything so it's saving grace is the fact that it is in fact optional.

VATS has never quite been the same since it moved from Fallout's turn based combat in the first 2 titles, it never quite gelled with the real time combat of an FPS. The primary incentive to using it in FO3 was simply to avoid the even more insufferable real time combat. Now VATS has moved towards playing like some pseudo bullet time mechanic since rather than stopping time, it only slows it down and whilst some players have enjoyed the added urgency of it, it really only emphasised the mediocre animations and bizarre physics at play throughout. The saving grace in this case of course is the massive improvement to actual gun play that allowed me to near on completely ignore VATS altogether, though the other major reason for avoiding it was it rendering you immobile and thus vulnerable to explosives like bombs, grenades and kamikaze super mutants, serving more as a disadvantage than a boon. It was just a shame it felt like any investment into use of action points felt wasted as a result.

One pro is the shear amount of content in general. There are a lot of experiences to be found and had through "The Commonwealth". The most obvious comparison here would be against Skyrim, a game by the same developers, on the same engine. Which recycled a lot more of its assets which vicariously worked wonders for performance/optimisation. But there-in lies some of the games [Fallout 4] fundamental problems, being more demanding on any particular systems hardware, particularly memory and data with no real apparent improvement in quality. One thing is for sure though, there are plenty game hours to be invested.

Lastly, before a final anecdote, the UI is something of a nightmare. It's a pain in the arse to navigate, at least on a keyboard, it might seem more streamlined on a controller, but your hands are all over the place, moving your selection up and down and swapping out menu's, i'm still hitting the wrong navigational buttons 60 hours into the game.

Anecdote regarding S.P.E.C.I.A.L: I'm not sure how this was balanced, it seemed like Charisma and Intelligence would play more of an important role in terms of survival. I almost exclusively play Strength/Endurance builds due to being generally self-sustaining and practical. I decided i should really change and go for something different and interesting. However even with 8/10 charisma by level 7 and +4 charisma from apparel and chem/beverage bonuses i still fail 9/10 charisma checks in dialogue; and when reloading to check for different results it still takes 5-6 attempts just to roll a positive result. Against yellow (easy/normal) checks, not even orange or red which are harder. Yellow dialogue options. I was hoping this would be more balanced than Skyrim wasn't.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I feel bad for all the hate Bethesda is getting. People need to realize something important:

This game is much worse on consoles due to frame rate being capped at 30FPS and textures being compressed. Load times are also excruciating on console.

This is not just Bethesda's fault, this is the fault of the people for buying a $350 console that is essentially a $700 strength branded gaming PC, and expecting $1400 gaming PC power. Maybe games like Battlefront were optimized for console better, but on PC with everything on Ultra, this game is everything I wanted it to be in terms of graphics.

Although textures here and there could be twice as definitive, the natural light and shading and atmospheres created are 11/10.

Character animations and what not, as with all Bethesda games, is their weak spot. But its completely tolerable.

At first I thought I was going to be majorly disappointed in this game, for a few reasons:

The intro, time in the vault, and first walk in the wasteland is extremely concentrated, fast, and simple.
All 1-100 skill leveling from Fallout 3 has been condensed into a singular SPECIAL/Perk Chart. It feels bottle necked and simplified for extremely casual players, and this is not what Fallout 3 was.

The first important NPC tells you to jump into power armor and allows you to control a settlement in like five minutes. The first Brotherhood of Steel guy you meet asks you to join. This is all cheesy in my eyes and I wanted drastic broad-stroke story before I received Power Armor and General status.

In 2015, all forms of entertainment feel required to pull the user in, FAST. I think this is a bi-product of that unfortunate concept.

Fortunately enough though, after a few quests and with playing on the hardest difficulty, this game is the hardcore challenge I wanted. Quick-save exists for a reason, you can get your ass kicked. On the hardest difficulty, two swipes from a Yao Guai and you're dead. And that's with good armor.

The settlement building is quite allowing, and you do not run into an anticlimactic Tony-Hawk style inventory cap. Mods and DLC will surely add tons of content to settlement building over the next two years, and even with the vanilla release content, you can accidentally spend hours building your bases.

Weapon/Armor Modding feels just right. There's complexity for sure, but it's not revolting and easy to get into.

The worst part of this game is the story. It started off so fast and I do not care about who was killed. The main character has no emotion, despite the fact that they give you to social option to be like "IM LOOKING FOR MY SON" all the time. People need to realize though, story isn't what made Fallout 3 either. It was all the systems throughout scavenging, traveling, character customization and combat challenges. THIS GAME STILL HAS ALL OF THAT.

The thing that is most controversial to me is the map size. The map size is smaller than Skyrim/Fallout 3, BUT, in their defense it is quite dense. I think we should expect map size to double with all the DLC that eventually comes out.

I will try to leave a full review here for those who actually want to read a good review instead of the mindless "Its the best ever!" or the "This game sucks ass!" reviews which seem far too common on this site. I purchased the game 5 days after the release date, so a fairly large patch was downloaded before I played. Be ready to wait before you play the game; the patch download took almost 50 minutes, but given the buggy nature of Bethesda, don't get greedy and start playing immediately, just be patient for the download. I have logged about 20 hours so far into the game.

    GRAPHICS: 8/10
They are average, if on the weak side for games in 2015. Having said that, they are still quite solid and I don't really understand all the negativity about this issue. The frame rate is pretty smooth and I rarely have any slowdown when playing, even against large groups. And once you're actually playing, you will never look at a shot of the city in the distance and think, "Well that's okay, but with a better drawdistance and some greater sync visualization, the city would have looked way better." All you'll think is, "Damn that's pretty sweet looking." The graphics are good enough, certainly enough at least to make you focus on things in the game other than the graphics.
Interiors of buildings are far improved over Fallout 3. Most importantly, there are vastly more tile-sets. Fallout 3 had sewer, office, subway, weird metal storage hallways, etc., but not much else. Here, there is a good variation of interiors so they don't just look all the same. And the color! This is the best improvement of all; there is actually a good amount of color to please the eyes in this game. For those who got very sick of the brown and greys of Fallout 3, expect a lot less of it here.
Faces and NPC's are graphically okay, but can be a bit washed out at times. Character animations during dialogue sequences can be weak, but really who cares that much? People are being so whiny about this, but big f*king deal if a few lip-sync lines don't line up great. Does it matter? Is that why you play Fallout?

    STORY AND MISSIONS 8/10
This is a mixed bag. The central story missions are by far the best and are actually really good. I have crossed a sort-of threshold in the game where things are starting to get very interesting. I really REALLY like the main missions; they are fun and are great at slowly expanding the curious nature of the events unfolding around the vault-dweller and his or her son. The side missions can be hit-or-miss. Overall, they're okay, but be ready for the majority of them to be the standard go-here, kill-these-guys, and retrieve some random thing missions. Now if you like that kind of stuff, including exploring the creepy locales as I do, it works out pretty well. As mentioned above, the vastly improved individualization of interiors does a lot to keep these locations fresh. Side missions based around the many factions that exist in the wasteland are somewhat better. Also, with so many factions, and some which seem so full of s*it, it makes it a tough decision who to be friends with. The Brotherhood of Steel makes their return, but they seem as ruthless and untrustworthy as ever.
Dialogue sequences are sometimes frustrating as it is impossible to tell what your character will be saying. Your answer choices to a morally complex question may be yes, no, sarcastic, or I'm going to kill you now. Usually you'll end up just picking the "safe" response since you won't know how sarcastic or rude other answers could be. Some dialogues will include possible optional answers which will net you experience and better results, but expect these to fail nearly every time unless your charisma is pretty high. INVENTORY 9/10
The inventory management is great, if not a bit confusing at first. The customization of guns and armor is a HUGE plus over Fallout 3. Junk is now worth collecting since you can scrap things for parts. And even if those parts don't upgrade your guns, they can be used to build up your settlements. Settlement building is VERY confusing and comes with virtually zero assistance, so be prepared to fiddle with this for some time. By this point, there are enough websites out there that should help you get started if you're struggling, which you probably will. Once you get the hang of it though, it can be pretty fun. It may get dull if you're not willing to commit the time needed, but that's okay since settlement customization is completely optional. For some really crazy ideas, check out youtube to see what some people have created. It's some pretty cool stuff.
Weight management is still a concern, but there are several perk levels which can increase you're carrying capacity to a solid level.

Not great, but fresh and fun. Character limit up now. Bye bye

The world itself looks drastically different depending on the time or day and weather, which in previous titles never changed. The gunplay has been improved upon to where if you run out of action points shooting doesn't feel wrong and is actually quite fun. The game world itself is jam packed with things to do around every corner, space has not been wasted here. The crafting system and addition of settlements is receiving less praise than it deserves. Thie entire world truely is a sandbox for you to mold and shape to you're liking, from the story to the actual physical environments. The voice acting is much improved and the fact that your character has a voice in my opinion adds to the level of immersion. Character models are very hit and miss some you can see a significant imrovement while others are just downright bad. The framerate studders quite a bit but overall does not take away from the experience. Overall the technical issues are no worse or better than any of Bethesdas other big titles and as with their other games does not really take away from the experience. Expand

Gameplay: Addictive. Lots of locations to explore, legendary creatures to find, collectables to loot and lots of things to craft. Combat mechanics have greatly been improved. Levelling system has been oversimplified, no weapon conditioning which drags the rating down. Alot of similarity to Fallout 3. 7/10

Control: Companion commands has some glaring problems. Rest of the game has some issues but overall controls have been greatly improved. 7/10

Framerate cap and bugs/glitches are exlcuded from this review, not significantly noticeable during gameplay, and bugs are rare from my experience. Would make final rating 7/10 if included.

    Final score: 7.6/10
    Rounded up to 8/10

Note: 10/10 doesn't mean perfection, it means a game is excellent but may some have bugs/glitches and a few negatives that don't significantly impact the game.

The major problem that lowers the grade to 8 (this would be a clear 10 otherwise) is the unbearable time that the engine takes to load the environment. Right now I'm at level 40, having progressed about half of the game so far. The loading screens with the standard 500GB HDD take about 3-5 mins each, lasting longer every level.

Overall, a very solid game. Probably gets the GOTY-award hands down.

For me Fallout 1&2 is THE FALLOUT. I know time has passed and things have changed, but Fallout 4 didn't live up to its expectations, by far.
Also, its cover msses the sentence "A post-apocalyptic role-playing game", and by playing the gam now I understand why.
Fallout 4 is not an RPG. It is an FPS with extended character features, and additional base-build simulation. If it was an RPG, I would feel at least a little sympathy with my character, the choices it makes, and the cause it fights for. FO4 does not give you the occasion, because the story itself is nearly similar as FO3: child got kidnapped, family reunion, make a better tomorrow blah blah blah.... I am sick of this positive feels **** And with the side-quests and all you still cannot bury yourself with the history and lore, that a proper RPG would offer, because the game lacks conversations. The lore and history is shallow as a grave in the desert near Vegas. To sum the gameplay up: you go somewhere, kill badguys, go back, get xp, and after a while you get to the end. After 4 hours I came to a point that I dont care about my kid and lets go adventuring, but adventuring is not as fun as it should be. It is the same as FO3. Can you not think about adding something to that? Dear Bethesda: How could you trash out those awesome and long conversations and funny stories FO2 had to offer, how could this decision pass the board considering this would be a RPG?!
Make less story, make more additional content? Like for example, scavenge all the stuff you come across and make more stuff you get from a lot of stuff? I felt like a crazy homeless guy killing raiders while looting coffee mugs, typewriters instead of weapons and armor! WTF?! NO! I dont want to build a settlement, I want the environment to change itself according to my actions I do in the wasteland! It is 2015 forchristssake! I spent at least 2hours per day scrapping and calculating free room in my backpack. Weapon addons are also a chore. Althoug enemies with the worst guns can still gun you down without significant effort, you with the upgraded gun, simply cannot aim that well, so as an FPS the game fails to deliver.
Character development is also dumbed down to a level that it is more like a cabaret than a serious commitment.
Graphics: This is better be a joke. Close to no shadows, low res environments, landscapevisual range drawing and character/house modeling resembles games from 2010. This game was developed since 2009. By comparison Destiny had a completely new graphics engine and a whole new world to develop from scratch and during a same pariod. PS4 gameplay show stuttering,, models are caught in the environment, AI hears my footsteps between levels and tries to shoot mee through the wall, but it kills itself instead with a molotov coctail...(AI is close to non-existent, these are the dumbest enemies ever).
And I could go on and on and on what is wrong with the game. I was playing it just because I didn't believe that it could be this bad, but sadly it is.

I feel myself cheated, as a Fallout fan. This game should not be called Fallout, but something else, that I cannot link to this marvelous franchise. For the younger generation, who have no idea about a real storytelling and have no experience or whatsoever regarding Fallout, this should be an average game. I am really hoping that Bethesda comes to its senses and realizes that this is not the way a post-apocalyptic RPG should be like.
The only thing FO4 can do to make me feel happy, is that if I sell it.

As a last thought, I am just curious that why did Bethesda alter the gametype this much? Because of financial reasons? Because simpler games sell better? Because people dont want to be lost in a sandbox? Because people want instant fun, rather than a longer plot to unwrap itself? Because single player games dont sell that good? I just simply dont understand.

Personally I love how the story is told. It is very non-linear a you have huge amount of freedom in choosing the direction of the story that can lead to different endings. The game forces you to some difficult decisions (I had to fail many quest to be able to finish others - I love that). And the story is presented in a way, that there is no simple "Good" and "Bad". It is not evil corporation vs good guys saving the world. Each faction has its different view on the main topic. But non of these views are really evil or flawless. You are forced to compromise.
It is difficult to describe. But I really loved it, that it is not a black and white. Basically you can join one party and go defent the oposing one as a good guy. And other player may choose oposite approach and still feel like a good guy. You will save the world in way you believe it is best for it. But someone else may feel your solution is wrong and he will save the world by doing oposite. I love this :-D

This game should be a spin-off, like: Fallout 3: Minutemen Reborn. It dumbs-down some aspects of Fallout I felt are in the core Fallout experience: post-apocalyptic death, rich dialogs, encounters.

There are some advantages, but the disadvantages that I found are simply blockers.

    1) Dialogs. Dialogs are dumb. It's introducing distance between you and your character. Sometimes I've chosen a dialog option only because I've misunderstood what feelings will be communicated with that option. I.e. when choosing an option titled "you're a synth", your character will be aggressive and it will be said in the form of an accusation. If I knew that I wouldn't picked it! With menu that uses only codewords instead of full lines I felt that instead of leading the conversation I was playing guesswork. Good thing that "quick save" option works in dialogs, I was using quick-load when inside the dialog quite often. I miss the times of Baldur's Gate. In that game, you had to earn your way into a romance. It wasn't started by choosing the "romance" option... It's like: "new directive: commence romance. initializing... protocol romance starts". Yuck.

    2) Repetition. In Fallout 4 there are really LOTS of places to visit. And they're nicely done. But what's the point if most of them are empty in content? I mean sure, there are raiders to kill and loot to be found. But if you "clear" the location and take the loot, it's marked as "cleared" and that's it. There's no "history" inside them, no spontaneous quests, and I really can't find any reason to enter some Brewery if I don't have a quest marker inside it. Also, automatically generated quests (like, 'clear this area' or 'rescue this person') are giving me exactly ZERO motivation to follow this quest, because I know that when I'll do it, i'll get EXACTLY the same quest next time, sometimes even in the SAME location! There won't be any feeling of accomplishment, nothing. Only loot. I don't care about the loot! I care about the story and the world, not numbers and which compound I have the most!

    3) Weapons. I play melee character. In early game I've bought Chinese Officer's Sword, later I've changed it to Super-sledge, because everything else has simply worse damage. It looks like I'll be using it till end of the game (most enemies are 1 hit, and I play on Very Hard). So, I don't see the diversity of guns here: my whole game will end and I've used only 3 weapons. What's the point of having multiple mods, if most of them won't ever be used, because more advanced mods are completely deprecating older ones? This is actually called 'leveling', not 'modding'. If you have a better mod, you won't use the worse mod. Mods should be diversive and should introduce new traits that sometimes can be used and sometimes not, not simply gaining more p0wah!@#. Mods in Power Armors are nicely designed though.

    4) Interface. "Junk" is managed well, I like it very much that the player can stash every junk item from inventory into the workshop by hitting T key when browsing the workshop. This is very nice. I wish there could be a way to stash "unneeded" items into the workshop, or shop, in similar fashion. I mean, nearly every walk through the city results in killing enemies, because they respawn. If every enemy leaves loot, and player is expected to take it, then the player should be able to tag items which are taken with selling in mind, tagging items which are taken in checking them later, etc. I.e. I would wish to somehow create a category "shop items". When picking up items, it would categorize those items as "shop items" the moment I pick them up. Then, when visiting the shopkeeper, I would hit "T" and all items that are marked as "shop items" are moved to the shopkeeper. I then decide to accept or deny the transaction. This would make selling loot a lot less cumbersome. And now it is, because there are TONS of items in this game. Not really much diversity in them, but in terms of volume.

    5) For me, Fallout was about exploration. World exploration, game exploration, character exploration. I liked the idea that I didn't know what perks I could choose at some point of the game. I liked the surprise that the game gave me when it allowed me to choose a new perk that was awesome. It made perks valuable and it created an immersion of achieving something that you didn't know was there previously. Fallout 4? Every possible perk is offered right on the beginning of the game. Even if you can't choose it because you don't have enough stat points, you know what's there. You can even browse through perk levels, to know that it will do if it's on higher level. Hell, you can even modify your primary stats. I feel like another Fallout core trait has been changed to something that is not nearly as fun.

I have more thoughts about this game, but I feed there's no point in writing them all. I mean, the game is done. It's too late to change it. I'm sad :(.

I've always been a fan of Bethesda games, especially Fallout 3. But every time a game of theirs comes out, I had always encountered really bad problems with them, such as a lack of free roam warning for Fallout 3's ending (seriously???) and those backward flying dragons in Skyrim (that was downright embarrassing). I've heard some pretty legitimate complaints about Fallout 4 from pretty much most sources. I can only speak for myself however, when I will state that in my 60+ hours of playing this game, I have yet to find a single game-breaking glitch.

Let's talk about the reasons why people hate this game...but wait, I believe it can all be summed up into one fat ugly word: hypocrisy. They hate it because it's too familiar to its predecessors. But they also hate it because it's not enough change to the franchise. So which one is it? What were you honestly expecting or hoping for when you made your purchase?

Changes made include: more streamlined, linear level up progression trees, weapons that actually shoot where you aim (which I must admit makes VATS kind of pointless), dialogue system similar to that of Mass Effect (only not as good), weapons that don't break, a new "settlements" mode that I spent countless hours having fun with, being able to craft weapon and armor mods, chemicals/medicine and food (similar to Skyrim), a branching story, radiation damaging your max health, being able to play arcade clones on your pip boy or computer, and the power armor.

I think MOST of those changes are NECESSARY for the series to evolve in the right direction. Notice how I say most, not all.

Things that weren't changed were: muddy graphics (they are still better than 3 though), character models look the same, most enemies look EXACTLY the same, the pip boy works the same way, the map (which is disappointingly small IMO).

I've read complaints about people criticizing the game for "not feeling like Fallout" and you know what: I like that. It only means Bethesda is trying to do new things for the series so that it doesn't become stale. Regardless of whether you think they have succeeded or failed, is your opinion. I just appreciate the different feel to it. It can feel more like a shooter than an RPG though, due to the gunplay and linear RPG elements. I believe the Mass Effect sequels suffered the same fate though. I actually think it kind of feels like Borderlands. No complaints, I LOVE Borderlands.

I just think the reason why this is getting a lot of hate is because of the hype. Kill all hype in gaming and you will start to appreciate what games have to offer in content. Unless that game is in fact a complete pile of crap. This is not a perfect game, and the appeal may wear off for me in a couple weeks but it is by no means garbage. You want to know what garbage feels like? Play Bound by Flame or Assassin's Creed Unity. New Vegas was actually closer to broken garbage at launch than this game currently is. Perhaps you should stop playing Fallout if your standards are that high then.

Fallout fans might be disappointed by the sheer lack of new improvement since its literally just Skyrim with guns with a bonus of voice acted characters. But the game is still worth a buy, even right now. Just be careful with the **** amount of bugs that you'll facing.

Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
