Fallout 4 is the newest installment in Bethesda's saga about life in the post-apocalyptic world. The Elder Scrolls, Rage, and Dishonored have been Bethesda's previous successful games, it's no surprise what they have brought us in the Fallout games. Fallout 4 feels very similar to Skyrim in the sense that is uses the same engine which I personally liked and got used to it very easily unlike Oblivion's engine which took me a while to get the hang of.

    Gameplay:
The first thing that the game wants you to do is to create your character. The features on this are more than I anticipated it to be; I thought it would be like Skyrim's character design, but this one is way more specific. For instance, you can model your character's eyebrows, face textures, and the shape of your ears. Unlike all of other Bethesda's games, this is the first game from them to have the protagonist a voice. I was surprised when I first found out that this was an actual feature that was going to be added in the game. After you create your character, you are in a first-person mode which feels great to look at and easy to control. There are many types of places when you get out in the vast, huge open world that you will be exploring for many hours. I also like how your decisions in the game could have a huge impact on the main story or side-missions, saying positive and negative things could lead to different situations in the missions you are doing. The A.I could be a little funky at times, like when you get your dog companion, as it could sometimes feel is if he is following you at one moment, then the next he isn't. There are also some minor problems with the dog, as he could find one item, but there really is nothing there. I personally enjoy how Bethesda brought the gameplay to a whole new level, with designing weapons, building fortresses, and how the leveling up system works.

    Graphics:
While certainly not top-notch, the game is beautiful to look at. Like with many other games from Bethesda, there are some graphical bugs and errors that can be easily spotted just from defeating some enemy or an environment issue such as items falling through the floor, or enemy's randomly dying for no reason.

    Soundtrack:
As for most of Bethesda's games, they all have an original soundtrack. The Fallout games is no stranger when it comes to amazing soundtrack recordings and intense moments when you are fighting enemies. The soundtrack while looking around the environment is very calm and quiet, it kind of makes you feel that you are the only one out in the open world.

Overall, Fallout 4 did not ruin my expectations for the game. The game is beautiful to look at, it's very easy to enjoy, and has tons of content. The game was anticipated by many players since the day it was first announced. This maybe one of the best Bethesda games ever, and probably one of the best game you will play all year.

It feels more realistic maintaining live action but with it slowed down it still gives you time to scan your surroundings for best way to approach the rest of your encounter. There is also fun builds focusing on VATS. Third would have to be the new settlements. This is a fun addition to the game that you can spend many hours on. It also makes sense that as the savior of the wasteland you would build settlements for people to live in safely.

Okay as far as the bad I will admit the graphics look dated but Bethesda is giving us mods which will surly include texture packs. Another big issue is they got rid of Reputation and Karma... these were vital in maintaining responsibility in actions. If you travel alone especially you will notice no negative effects for stealing at all unless your caught which of course if your getting caught stealing your playing wrong.

If they mod in or patch in some improved textures and the addition of karma with town reps the game will be near perfect.

I still take a few moments to stop and watch when a rad storm moves in. While out exploring the land, you will come across an immense amount of lootable items. Luckily this time around, Bethesda has made every single one of these items useful. No more picking and choosing as was a huge headache in Elder Scrolls. Building your settlements is hugely addictive. The build menus are a bit clunky and take time to get used to. Also the restrictive camera can make placement of certain structure elements a frustrating lesson in trial and error. The story so far has also been a lackluster attempt and the opening sequence felt almost tacked on. Of course it wouldn't be a Bethesda game without the presence of some periodic glitches although nothing game breaking yet. Pacing is also sometimes curious. If you are a player that prefers to focus primarily on story missions, then you are going to have a difficult time. Huge difficulty spikes in story missions and even en route to a story location will force you to retreat and improve weapons, armor, and supplies before making another attempt. All in all, this is a solid game with a learning curve. Definitely a recommend for any open world gamer. Expand

I played for about 12 hours and the game crashed 4 times and glitched out several times more. However Fallout 4 was a bit harder to forgive as it didn't strike me as all that ambitious. The Witcher 3 is ambitious. Fallout 4 at times felt LAZY by comparison. I don't believe that graphics make a game, and I certainly wasn't expecting much from a Bethesda game (I mean, come on it's Bethesda). But I still couldn't shake the constant feeling of "I wish they had tried a bit harder" as I observed some of the fine details in the game. Also, after 12 hours the story still hadn't drawn me in and I found myself zoning out during a lot of the sidequest dialogues, so I ultimately decided to return it to Amazon. I hope Bethesda releases some patches soon to fix all the bugs and crashes for people who are enjoying the game. Expand

Like many I wait to read the reviews before I buy a game as in this day and age sometimes game companies loose touch with reality and in the ever onslaught of copy and paste - rebrand with a new game name and sell for 60 bucks. Like many I read the review's and it was neck and neck.. so games like this are hard to pull the trigger on.. The one word I kept seeing a lot was SKYRIM so... to me that could never be a bad thing. So I bought the game and well its SKYRIM love it or hate it...

    First few days :
At first I wasn't impressed.. the graphics don't bother me they are good enough.. the bugs don't bother me which I have not seen many.. they are funny when they do happen much like Skyrim. The voice acting is blah... the biggest gripe is the storyline is subpar to say the least.. so far .. I'm LVL 9 so maybe it will get better. However right out the gate... really... your telling me 80 people at the game studio could not come up with a better story line... what did you guys have a brown bag , draw it up on the whiteboard in 10 min... Bethesda would have been better off to bring in some 6 year olds and have them do the storyline... ATLEAST IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ORGINAL... (not joking) I get it , the concept of Fallout is post war but I can write on paper already 10 great concepts with that.. instead of the preferably opening scene of the game... but whatevs.... just the content alone and everything else offsets it. My last disappointment was how easy it was... I'm flying through the game with no real challenge... WHY DO I NEED A SUIT OF ARMOR when I'm already kicking azzzz.. One last pet peeve... the game is G rated / PG rated at times then other times R / rated... can we get some consistency here... Its a game for adults obviously..

    After a few days:
I'M FREAKING LOVING THIS GAME... I must have overlooked it but there is a difficulty setting.. I bumped it up to survivability and now everything is so worth it.. Now I barley leave home with out my armor suit :) This is a tad harder setting then Legendary setting on Skyrim .. cause we all know after you get your gear made even legendary wasn't to hard. NOW all those perks people are complaining about are vital... every bullet... every tin can you pick up... it all counts. Right now I'm lvl 13 . Very early stages but I'm enjoying the game for what it is and not rushing through it...

I bought this for PS4 to play through the first time... Once the mods start rolling out on PC I will pick up another copy ...

Just a honest opinion from my prospective... hopefully this will help someone. If you loved Skyrim then this game was made for you... get it you wont be disappointed in that aspect. It really is a good game and after getting into it I'm glad I didn't waste my money.

The atmosphere, the dialogues, the wandering and exploring, the mindblowing yourney and things you encounter and can do, all of epic proportion. If you dare to give this a 4 or 0 or even in terms of such lame comments, you shouldn't be here or play games in the first place.
The graphics are not the very best this gen has to offer but ALL of it in the package makes up for that. The graphics are very decent enough to completely suck you in and even amaze you at times. This game is extraordinary ambitious and fun. A must own. If not go away and play wii sports.

First group probably played in rush to make a review and you can see from what they say and write that didn't made big progress in game. That is not their fault, only a couple days for Monday (end of embargo), also at beginning I thought that title is really good. The problem is the more you play it, the more bad mechanics and ideas you see. I am not talking about graphics or bugs. Really for so huge game bugs are normal and never in my case they limited or destroyed my game play. Of course I got like 1 game error on ps4 and 3 times game didn't start properly (same error, I had to start game again from system menu) during 55-60 hours of game play. These are not a reason that will make me to give that game 0/10. No I accept that in such project over time after patches most of those issues will be sorted.
I also have to mention graphics because people give fallout bad review just for this reason. On ps4 game looks worse than on PC, sometimes framerate drops, not all textures looks sharp. But still overall game looks nice,

Real problems start when you progress in the game, start to make all of those quests along with main one. Actually yesterday after around 60 hours of gameplay I decided that I can't play this game anymore. I didn't want to force myself to finish it. I cleared my head for a day and started think why is that. I liked fallout 3, I know it is not fallout 2 that I played more than 10 times. Ultra fans have to accept the fact that bethesda has rights and can do their own vision. Personally I played Wasteland 2 and enjoyed it because it was closer to f2. On the other hand I accepted Fallout 3 for what it is, I try to be open minded and liked a lot of it. Really ppl should treat this as spin-off the f2 and move on.
What made me to quit playing fallout 4?
I got bored with this Call of Duty game on rails. Most of quests are "go there and kill, or bring something back". This game lack of variety and bigger consequences of player actions. Sometimes I got impression there is no reason to even read/hear the conversation because I have only impact on order of interaction and not shaping my story. I understand that main plot has to be directed and I accept that. Actually main story is not as bad as ppl say and the development of it is quite varied. But when you create world of crafting where you manage resources for building settlements, armor, weapons or even just hunt for caps you make players to do side quests. That's good cause you think that it is your journey. The problem is that most of those quests are just go and kill, so on one hand you experience different places, enemies but in the root of the concept it is so repetitive. I got bored at some point. It is shame that so much time and money went to make this unique world, cities, ships, npc's and bethesda made everything behave the same. I experienced the same pattern of gameplay most of the time, of course in different unique places, but really does it make this game feel unique?

Still we should thank bethesda that as a package this game is big, I think lots of gamers will spend a lot of time with it. In fallout main plot is varied but the rest is like copy paste pattern. I had impression that Bethesda accepted that it should see this project in broad perspective. What are currently 2 most played games? Minecraft and Call of Duty. Sorry to say that but fallout looks like this kind of mix. It is not bad in terms of direction. Games have to evolve, crafting for me is ok, especially weapons and thank Bethesda you didn't make them to get damage o break. Cool that ammo does not weight anything. Shooting feels good, vats is also ok for me.
I remember on mission when I had to go to some plant to make it work properly again for some farm, I had to kill mutants but also interact with environment so it was varied enough to keep me interested. But later the same pattern is used to clear some place of ghouls or mutants etc. Millions spent for graphics, engine, programmers and really it is so hard to make some good scenarios for missions?

I am in point where I know I will buy next fallout game but also I suspect I will not be hayped that much for it, just because of curiosity and sentiment. This is actually bad for bethesda because decisions to target broader audience (cod, minecraft) will backfire in shrinking their audience. This could be a perfect game, there was so little effort to do that, just make mission more unique. Unfortunately someone decided to simplify everything and enjoy shooting.

Played the game for 10 hours, and I've got enough. The game unfortunately has suffered a serious dumb-down. What I hate most is that it could even be a decent game. Some of the changes aren't even really that bad. Sure the new leveling system might hurt a bit at first, but it's a good attempt to balance the incredibly broken skill system (I mean does anybody miss Survival, really?). Crafting system means instead of going to a vendor, you will scrap useless weapons of your enemies and modify your own. Radiation matters and it matters much. But well, that's it for the advantages of this game.

Main issue of this game? You go to the nearest location of your vault and hear shooting raiders. Not thinking much you go shooting them, a obvious quest-giver hero figure shows and thanks you because you had a choice to go away. Oh, really? My only real choice there was to start a mission or not start a mission. I couldn't shoot him in the face, I couldn't just tell them to run away with me to the sanctuary, since I wanted to make a pacifist run. No the only real choice I had was to mow down Raiders with a minigun in a power suit, or go away. I couldn't even make a choice about how my character would behave. It was mostly yes, no, question and sarcastic, which half of the time is playful, half is annoyed. Which brings us to another great issue: lack of character creation. Sure I could sculpt faces of both of them however I wanted, but it was still a person capable of having a family. No psychopaths, no antisocial nerds. Wonder how he got such a good wife with one point of charisma. Part of what makes Bethesda recipe games good is how we forget about main quest while exploring surroundings, each having it's own story. No such thing in Fallout 4. You will constantly remind everybody (and game will for you) that you have a son you don't care about to rescue. The settlement mechanic is slapped on the game and provides you no reason to use it. Do you really care about some unnamed settlers who provide no reason to fight for them, only demanding really useful and rare resources like military grade circuit board, for some radiated fruits?

Game isn't even immersive, does not make you care about what goes on the screen, only to push your armor to protect you against more damage. No illusion of autonomy, you either go a one specific way designers expect you to, or you don't go at all. It's worst sin is that unlike Skyrim, which had many similar problems, it's also unengaging of all things.

There are still a few bugs in the game, but you can easily get past them, I'd hate to sound like a broken record but the textures and animations are a little outdated compared to other games on the PS4.

Fallout 4 is simply amazing, especially for someone who has never played a fallout game, i was stunned at simply how much there is to do. Don't listen to the childish trolls who are giving this low scores just because they love to hate, try this out for yourself!

It lacks only one thing - Fallout. You will not feel the misery of a lonely wanderer on the radiated dessert, You will not enjoy complex world, solve puzzles and dive into post nuclear abyss, because there is no abyss at all.

Plastic dialogs, poor voice acting and system of interaction with other characters repels me from digging in. And the plot so weak that i think if maybe developers instead of wasting 15-30 on creating storyline give us more furniture to make our base even more comfy I would give this game better score.
Character seems not thrilled about loss of his wife, child and sleeping 200 years in ice cube, so how can I be? How come this game is called Fallout?

I have never played Fallout 1 and 2, but I do have poured over 300 hours in Fallout 3 and New Vegas and I absolutely love Fallout 4, even more so than FO3 and NV.
    Pros:
+Settlements let you be creative and leave a mark on the world. It's easy, simple and satisfying to build them. +Tons and tons of content. I have played 25 hours of Fallout 4 and have come 2/3 through the minuteman

+Tons and tons of content. I have played 25 hours of Fallout 4 and have come 2/3 through the minuteman questline, 1/3 through the BoS questline, 0/3 through the Railroad questline, and 1/3 through the main story.
+Better graphics and realistic character models. Because these games are so huge, it is hard to make a game with good graphics, but this one succeeds. Sure, you don't get 60FPS on consoles but who cares?
+Gun mods. There's a feeling of satisfaction to evolve your guns and see your character grow with them.
+The Power armors. Iron Man MKI simulator; enough said.
+Followers make comments on what you do and they come in many colors and sizes.
+Bugs are very rare given the game has just released. In 25 hours, my pip-boy did not appear twice only.

    Cons:
-Not knowing exactly what you'll say, even if it is rare that you will be mad against what he said.

Fallout 4 is ultimately a Bethesda game and a sequel to fallout 3. In every way it is what you would expect Bethesda to create, a buggy, bad looking and performing mess. But despite this Fallout manages to be one of the most immersive games I have ever played, I wake up wanting to jump into this game again. But despite this Fallout manages to be one of the most immersive games I have ever played, I wake up wanting to jump into this game again. I adore exploring and uncovering the deep world Bethesda has lovingly crafted, and even making my own environments within that set piece in the form of settlements. The combat is leaps and bounds ahead of Fallout 3, the dialogue, though questionable, is in my opinion fantastic, with lip syncing being the only draw back.

So, in conclusion Fallout 4 is Fallout 3 on steroids with much improved mechanics and story that make for an amazing game, but still a Fallout game, so if Fallout 3 isn't your thing this will not be either.

Fallout 4 is incrediably immersive. Its the first time I find myself losing all day and all night in the building of settlements and running quests, the game is so large, the customization is insane. it needs a tutorial and needs to explain a TON of things, mechanic wise, like how to get your caps when you run a store, or how to use VATS, but I still would give it 9/10.

Its very polished, although seems like its missing content, to help a new player. But, if it did have a friendlier start, This game might have been the highest rated Metacritic game of all time. The few missing things, are noticed, and can be frustrating, if your building or having trouble learning the game.

It just means you will probably restart the game after investing 50 hours. The second time around is even better, since you know not to waste time building fences to run off an area...

While some critics are complaining about the simplified leveling system, pay them no attention. This game is about much, much more. The inclusion of settlement building is massive in scope, and worth the price alone. New systems have made great improvements to gameplay, and the combat is better than any previous Bethesda game. Period.

The bottom line: If you played and enjoyed

The gaming mechanics are almost flawless which gives the player a sturdy control system in this action RPG that successfully teleports you into this post-apocalyptic world as you search for your son and “save” the world. A strong return for the franchise, boasting incredible customisation, a fascinating world and brutal yet brainy shooting, slightly tarnished by lacklustre AI and tedious inventory management. [Christmas 2015, p.88]

Feral Ghoul ugly in many ways, but beneath its iffy exterior beats the heart of one helluva great RPG. Get past the graphics deficiency, and the sheer thrill of Fallout 4’s combat, crafting options, and exploring will hold your attention for months. [January 2015, p64]

Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
