This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Kto to napisał? Brakuje tu spójności i konsekwencji, emocjonalnego zaangażowania, naturalności, a przede wszystkim ambicji. Expand

Although I did have occasional fun playing Fallout 4, overall the game felt like a dumbed-down entry, lacking the RPG elements that made New Vegas and 3 so much fun, and adding tedious, exhausting crafting mechanics that slow down the game's pacing to a crawl, and make the game feel like a chore.

At first I was open to the changes in skills, perks, and dialogue, but eventually found all of these new changes to be huge mistakes. The dialogue being the biggest offender for me, as your character having a voice completely disconnects you from being immersed in the world, and significantly shortens the amount of response options during conversations with NPCs.

This barely feels like an RPG, if at all, and feels more like an open world First Person Shooter, with minor, beginner RPG elements thrown in. Overall it just feels like a massive step backwards for the franchise, and it makes me concerned for Elder Scrolls 6. Bethesda needs to stick to what works, and make minor tweaks and changes. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Though the game is often severely broken too, so I guess I can't even say that.

Get rid of the freaking crafting! Good lord it's annoying. Stopping a quest every two seconds to gather resources and craft trivial structures that in no way impact your game is so mind-numbing and awful. They've doubled down with the crafting crap in Fallout 76, and look how that turned out. MAKE CRAFTING AN OPTION, NOT A REQUIREMENT. In Skyrim they got it right with Hearthstone. An OPTIONAL DLC, that made crafting fun and easy, and actually had a purpose! To store and display your stuff, with some minor mini-events/quests thrown in to boot. The crafting for me is the fatal flaw of Fallout 4, it really ruined the experience for me.

There are occasional moments of brilliance, but they're too far and few between to justify ever returning to this game. Play Fallout: New Vegas instead, you'll be glad you did.

I left the bunker and went to the people in the town hall or whatever and then put on the suit. A big lizard thing came at me and then we walked off with the people back to where my house is. I was then told to find some people in trouble eastwards and it turned out they were being attacked by things south of that location. So basically I knew this was just going to be another Bethesda game of trecking across the map to kill one thing and then coming back and getting the reward and then just grinding everything out with no purpose. I had this trouble with Skyrim as well where I found that there was far too much to do to the point where the side quests are well over 10 times the size of the main quest and they just spiral out into this endless void. But it's not worth it at all. All the characters are boring and they all sound depressed or just poorly voiced so I just don't care about them at all. Every quest is just so much effort and there's no final boss or thing to work towards. I personally prefer a game I can beat in about 40 hours and be satisfied with. This game cannot be beaten and so I just cannot be arsed to play it for 60 hours and try and immerse myself in a boring world. Expand

This is Bethesda Game Studio’s most beautiful world yet. I find myself getting lost for hours trying to go from A to B between quest marks, because I saw a marker pop up on my map that looked interesting.

The combat is still floaty but tighter than ever. For the first time I’m able to playing this game more like a shooter, rather than completely relying on VATS, which it’s adds a more tense feel now that it slows time rather than fully stopping it.

Fallout 4’s story had me fully engaged and invested more so than any other BGS game. I’m normally very formulaic in the way I play these games. Side quests and additional content first, before completing the story and ending with (Hopefully) a bang. And on that, this game delivered one of the most interesting stories that felt like it was hand-made for me.

However what prevents this from a higher score is for a 2015 game being the same year Witcher 3 and Metal Gear Solid V released the graphics/framerate quality are seriously outdated and even now stutters and freezes and the story itself is not all that great all things considered since 3 and New Vegas were great in this aspect. Almost every faction were unlikable especially my personal favorite the Brotherhood of Steel being more facists than before.

However the best story it offers comes from the companions for the first time in my Fallout history I love the character arcs of the companions even my least favorite Preston Garvey. I recommend this to people who love gameplay but for moral choice storywise this is not the game for that.

Its just so aimless, but at the same time there is no freedom either. You can't wander without getting caught up in something trivial, or feel obliged to "go here and do this". There is no sense of wonder like FO3 had, no awe.
I wanted to love this game, I really did, but I can't.
Its like the girl who looks amazing from 20m away but when you get close you see zits on her chest, waxy ears, hairy armpits, acne around her mouth and forehead and has missing teeth.
I went there, more than once and I'm ashamed and let down.
Fallout 4 and all its DLC (which I own, but clearly will never play) is good from a-far, but far from good.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So let me get this straight: there are no choices that actually matter. Let me explain in Fallout New Vegas at the beginning you can join the raiders that prey on a small town or the townsfolk and each opens up a lot of different quests. In Fallout 4 the raiders attack you on sight and if you say no to helping Preston Garvey it still makes you do it, I said no and the objective still said do that action. And also the characters can't be killed, in New Vegas (kina ironic that what most people say is the best Fallout is the only not made by them) you could kill anyone, here more than half of these terrible characters you simply cannot kill. Lastly the graphics are terrible, when I shoot the ground I expect a bullet impact but no not even that... The graphics per time can be really pixelated, do you have any idea what game came out the same year and had excellent graphics (Mad Max). Sorry if this review is a bit short but I don't have much to say. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have restarted my game for the third time yesterday. The first time, it was because a key NPC had just disappeared, yesterday I just lost the ability to crouch. I decided to start all over again, in a kind of hopeful way - maybe if I went back to square one, I would minimize the risk of bugs or something. And then I was hit by the bug where you're stuck right out of the pod until you restart your console.

So, yeah, even by Bethesda standards, this is painful. I've had buggy saves in their RPGs before, but the worst that had happened was to have a secondary quest I couldn't finish in Skyrim. Never anything this terminal and annoying. And I'm not mentioning all the bugs I managed to work around: crash to PS4 home when changing Piper's weapon, and so on.

Then, there's what Bethesda have done with Fallout, and that's worse than any technical glitch.

I can't stand the dialog system. I used to love it in the old Fallout games, and Planescape: Torment, when you had pretty much half a screen of dialogue options to read, and in certain cases having to be real careful about what you picked. The new system is just risk-free, over simplified nonsense.

Cardboard cutout characters, complete lack of substance in their backgrounds...

It just doesn't feel like a RPG any more. I miss my drug-addicted prizefighter from Fallout 2, a guy who had amassed terrible karma before setting on the path of redemption. That guy had a story, that guy had a style of his own, that guy was FUN. He was utterly rubbish at many things, he had to give up on some parts of the game because of that, and he felt real.

This guy I'm playing in Fallout 4 can just do everything, and he can do it very well. He's neither a beacon of hope leading a rebellion, nor the scourge of the wasteland terrorizing settlements. He's just an asshat who tinkers in his shed and just happens to own 4 power armours and 3 Fat Men despite having been outside the vault for a week or so.

I miss the quests from the old Fallout games where you could kill a guy subtly by tampering with his heart medication, rather than HAVING to blow his brains out with a shotgun.
    (Spoilers ahead)

The bit in the Combat Zone is, for me, very representative of the turn that Bethesda has taken. In an old Fallout game, you could have probably done any of the following:
    1. Wait for a fight night to rob the betting money
    2. Enter the cage yourself and become the local champion
    3. Bet on any fighter to rake in some caps
    4. Buy out one the fighter to have as a companion
    and probably more.

In Fallout 4, well, none of that. You're in a place, where there are other people. Therefore you will fight, and kill them all, and loot them to get back to base and continue building your glorified shed. Woohoo.

It's a decent shooter, despite the glitchy stuff. The modding mechanism on weapons is rather fun, and as usual the random exploration of places is by far the most exciting element of the game.

But it's jut not a Fallout game any more, and it's not really an RPG either.

If this game not named Fallout then I can score it 8, but it's Fallout and I have more expectation from that series.

Bethesda is the worst thing what happened with this series. This game degrade the Fallout RPG system, degrade the dialogue system and lot more. The only improvement is the gun play, that's why I give this game 1 instead of 0.

This was my first Fallout game, and I really didn't like it. This game is really boring a lot of the time and depressing. RPG elements of the previous games are barely present...if not present at all. They kind of watered it down for people who are new to Fallout so they can broaden their audience, which I get but it kinda ruined it a bit, though not too much. The talking protagonist is actually something I was positively surprised by. Story was interesting enough, although a bit stupid if you ask me. Most of it made sense but you exit the vault looking for your son and you go this long ass way just to find out that it was 60 years ago when they first snatched him, meanwhile you're too busy going around gathering sh*t like adhesive screws and other materials. Other than that no complaints about the story.
Character creation system definitely WAY better than 3 and NV.....way better. The game lacks a serious arsenal of weapons. I don't want to shoot some damn pipe pistols for a 3rd of the game, it's tiring. The new design of old creatures like Mirelurks, Deathclaws or even Super Mutants are also a step up from the last ones. Alien Blaster is THE weakest thing ever, doesn't matter if you upgrade your character to the max, it will always stay/be weak. Side quest for the Minutemen were boring as f*ck and pretty much just annoying to the point where you don't want to talk to Preston Garvey, turn on Radio Freedom or go anywhere near The Castle anymore. About half of the DLCs were decent like Nuka World, Far Harbor and the Wasteland Workshop, the rest was just half assed to be fully honest.....matter of fact the whole game was kinda half assed if you ask me, but it was still worth the money and I played the absolute sh*t out of it, can't wait for Fallout 76, though the online only option leaves me very skeptical.

It's absolute garbage; Bethesda should be ashamed.

As a kid I used to play Morrowind on the PC, Watching your modding community flourish around the Construction Set was beautiful. The game itself didn't need character narration; the game was smooth, the characters were well thought out (Vivec, Dagoth Ur still bring a smile to my minds eye), There was a massive depth to your plot back then it seemed. I could depend on dropping into this RPG for hours at a time; if even just to play around with different cheats or spells for sillies. ( or even better mods from the community)
With Fallout 4 . . . on Survival. . . I hope you realize your engine's bugs crash the game every 30m - 2 hrs consistently right? yet the game of the year edition came out and i see no updates fixing these issues. . . seemingly you want everyone seeing a loading screen (laments; fast traveling in lower difficulty with a smaller loot tree)
every 30 min or the game will crash due to zone renderings, or any # of other immersion breaking issues.
( i have had cars thrown into me by companions instantly killing me, even discovered running into said cars sitting still can be fatal. . .)
I am sure every player has noticed falling cars from highways and other needless animations that bug up the engine, when all we did was max-craft our character to run fast through the zones (because minutemen) and here we are, un-immersed, probably broke due to the expansions/skins, and nothing to really show for it except our Bethesda Fandom. . . & all the aforementioned hours spent in a broken game you refuse to spend any time(or $) fixing . . . despite how much money we have literally just thrown at you.
I can't even fathom how much you probably make off these ripoff's you call creations in your club but it is downright despicable how you went from a Construction Set to a Creation Club. . .
& you think your better than EA. . . Tsk, tsk.

Watching the hype following your latest presentation at E3 I am feeling all sorts of deja vu when compared to f4's hype.
I am not enthused, I am not excited.
I am mildly disgusted and sad to see a great company brought so low by it's shareholder greed.

Until you start acting more like Cd Projekt Red
(you know a responsible game developer that keeps it's audience in mind, doesn't give in to corporate greed, and seemingly loves doing what it set out to do in the first place; creating)
I won't be buying your games. I am done. You gave up on me. Us.
    & we are legion.
    you?
    Todd Howard, you are Caesar.
    The knives in your back?
    You put them there yourself.
    Suicide.

A strong return for the franchise, boasting incredible customisation, a fascinating world and brutal yet brainy shooting, slightly tarnished by lacklustre AI and tedious inventory management. [Christmas 2015, p.88]

Feral Ghoul ugly in many ways, but beneath its iffy exterior beats the heart of one helluva great RPG. Get past the graphics deficiency, and the sheer thrill of Fallout 4’s combat, crafting options, and exploring will hold your attention for months. [January 2015, p64]

Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
