It's obvious most of the people leaving 1/10 reviews have not even played the game and are just on a hate campaign against Bethesda for whatever reason.

The game feels like a vastly improved version of fallout 3, with better character interaction and smoother combat. It's a FPS/RPG hybrid like FO3, but you can tell they decided to take it in a more action-oriented direction. However, statistics are still a big part of the game and you have to plan in advance which perks you want to get or you'll end up with a gimped character. If you enjoyed FO3 or FO NV, you will also enjoy this title. My biggest issue with the game thus far is some minor technical issues, but I'm sure they will be resolved with the next patch. However, I have not encountered any major technical issues or bugs and the game plays smoothly pretty much the entire time.

I advice everyone to disregard the clearly biased hateful reviews and make up their own mind. If you liked any of the 3D fallout titles, chances are you will fall in love with this latest incarnation as well.

I am a major graphics nut, have a very nice PC with a GTX970, but I have a thing about buying Bethesda games on console so I am not tempted to use console commands, so I got the PS4 version. Is it a graphics Marvel, no it isnt, but its still a beautiful game. If you were a fan of Fallout 3 and New vegas you will notice just how vibrant and bright the colors and art styles are. I entered a hidden passageway that reminded me of Wolfenstein: The New order in design yesterday, impressive visually.

Gameplay thus far is great, guns handle way better than previous Fallout games and the design your character and building a settlement in the first 5 hours or so of the game had me hooked. Its like a game within a game, love the creativity with it and the weapon building. I think any real fallout3 fan is going to love it.

I havent actually run into bugs but that's part of the charm on Bethesda games. Unless its a game killing bug, most of the bugs are a minor annoyance at best. Framerate has been fine for me thus far, but I have heard its a bit low on Xbox One at times, having it's AMD 7790 GPU running 1080p on it was probably a bad idea, they should have stuck with 900p or 720p like most other games. I have a sneaking suspicion MS had a hand in it being 1080p even if the performance suffered.

I played Morrowind for 500 plus hours on the original Xbox when it was much worse looking than the PC version and had much lower framerates, So PS4 having slightly less than 30 with dips near 20 doesnt really bother me. I'll get on PC eventually when the Mods hit and enjoy better graphics then. For now, you cant go wrong with this game unless your wanting perfection, or bought an Xbox One.

20 hrs in and so far i have encountered zero bugs (ps4 digital copy). No crashing, no rubberbanding, no noticeable frame rate drops. I dont see why this game is getting so many low scores. Realistically it prob deserves an 8 or 9 but i rated it higher to compensate for all the ridiculously low scores the haters are giving

I see this game as almost like an rpg/fps hybrid. If you enjoy both you will prob enjoy this game. But if you are super hardcore about your rpgs then you may not enjoy it as much as some of the other fallout games. Ive always played games more for the adventure and exploration then for story and characters. If you want quality writing, story and characters read GOT. If you want to have fun shooting up baddies while exploring a beautiful exciting world then play fallout 4.

I guess this game is targeted at people like me, ie a casual gamer, not hard-core with mega-skills or hundreds of hours to spend to level up (hello Destiny), not familiar with the previous games. Sure, the facial animations are last-gen, the dialogue mechanism is stilted/annoying, but who cares… game-play is engrossing, environment is consistent and above all beautiful… I keep discovering new stuff.

Fallout 4 is one of those games that is enjoyable to play in spite of itself. A PC port lacking fundamental options (I had to edit 2 separate .ini files to change the FOV and turn off Mouse Acceleration), a UI optimized for consoles, and a LOT of bugs all try desperately to make it so you won't have a good time. In my first 6 hours of play, I lost at least an hour of progress due to a mixture of bugs that locked up the game (always quicksave before using a terminal), and a horribly sporadic autosaving system. Additionally, the movement feels extremely dated. The AP you use to activate VATS also serves as a stamina meter that you use up while running (a la Skyrim). That's right, a stamina meter that gates how long you can run, in an open world game where 90% of your time is going to be spent running. I didn't like the mechanic in Skyrim, and I like it even less now.

But despite all of that, I find myself about 10 hours in, and wanting to play more of it, once I finish writting this review. The fundamental exploration is solid, the crafting system is interesting, and actually gives me a justification to pick up literally everything I possibly can, and the settlement system seems to have a decent amount of potential. The shooting is actually serviceable, compared to Fallout 3, but you'll still likely find yourself going into VATS on certain enemies with erratic movement patterns to try and conserve ammo.

Basically, I think that if you didn't like Fallout 3, there's almost no way you'll like Fallout 4. If you wanted to like Fallout 3, but couldn't because of the shooting mechanics/VATS, then you'll probably have a good time here. If you loved Fallout 3, and want more, then this is the game for you, but just know what you're getting yourself into. This is not a perfect game, or even a fantastic game in the year 2015, despite what many reviewers have said. Go back to 2011 or 2008, and my opinion would likely be different, but in 2015 I think this is a really solid exploration FPS/RPG with a lot of problems. If you're on the fence about this game, then don't get it now. I don't think I'd have a hard time recommending the game for $40, but $60 is just a bit steep (imo) for how many problems it has.

I like that they seem to have taken Fallout 3 and upgraded some of the more negative aspects of that game (better color pallette, more interaction with the environment to name a couple off the top of my head). There is much more crafting in Fallout 4 than in 3, which gives you uses for a lot of that junk you find. I feel this makes it more immersive. The items you build seem to have use beyond aesthetic, but time will tell if there really is a noticeable difference in the Heavy build 10mm pistol vs the Light build 10mm pistol. Even if there isn't, the game is open to modding and I'm sure it won't be long before many in game systems are tweaked and/or made tweakable by the gamer.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, it must be said that this game is nowhere near complete on PS4. The graphics/textures are awful and the framerate frequently dips; it's crashed several times with generic error codes; and there are numerous gameplay issues:

1.) There's no indication of mission difficulty ANYWHERE in the PipBoy. I just stumbled upon the Mirelurk Queen at level 13 and I can't do anything but barely scratch her with my pea shooters. Where are the indicators for mission difficulty? And I wasn't able to talk to Preston without doing this mission, so if he dies because I flee, both of my other missions that depend on him will most likely fail. I was able to talk to him, but he kept saying "we must focus on clearing this castle." Like he can't talk to me about other business while we clear the castle? COME ON!

2.) The Ghouls can lunge literally 20-30 feet, and you can't strategically engage combat on any scuttling creature. Humanoid foes can hit you with their spraying bullets from behind cover. I have screenshots of enemies behind pipes and walls with bullets still hitting me. If you sprint, you lose your AP; every battle ends up being a straight line backward shuffle trying to keep away from enemies that can do half of your health in damage by lunging and smacking you from 20 feet away. And your dog or whomever you have with you as a companion? Yeah, HAHA, good luck! Most often my dog is down within seconds, or just standing there doing nothing as the hoards advance on me. Pointless, stupid, and awful AI.

3.) The building system is completely stupid, boring, and lacks motivation. Some missions force you to do some of it, and for scavenging and breaking down components it's a necessary addition, but ultimately it's stupid.

4.) AP drains way too quickly unless you waste precious SPECIAL points trying to build it up at lower levels. Everything drains AP, too, including sprinting? What the...? Melee...AP drain; spring...AP drain; which leaves almost none for VATS.

5.) The idiot dog keeps standing in doorways and blocks your way in and out of combat. And when you have to trade with the meat sack to load your gear onto him, he runs off and you can't target him to get the command list!!! And speaking of the dog carrying loot, it's equally stupid and unnecessary...why not just let my character carry all of it himself??!!!??!

6.) Everything upgrade on EVERY gun or armor requires freaking adhesive, which is in such rare supply that you MAYBE can do one or two upgrades for every 7 hours of picking up worthless gear that you have absolutely zero knowledge of how it pieces together, how it will work, or anything. There aren't any guides or anything in the game to steer you along the proper path. If you're not at a workbench, good luck figuring out which components are required to upgrade your stupid gun.

7.) The worst offense: it's NO different than Fallout 3. Absolutely zero difference, and with the graphics and crashing problems, it's actually worse. This game has been hyped and hyped, as usual, to make a cash grab of gamers, but Bethesda should be ashamed and embarrassed to release a product this incomplete and buggy, not to mention frustrating. I realize they cater to the PC gamers and they'll fix all the problems for Bethesda, but we console owners demand better since we can't fix these problems on our machines. This game is going back and being uninstalled until such time as this garbage is fixed. I'm highly upset at spending this kind of money on a game this poor quality. And nice job with the embargo on the reviews until the day of to make sure no one else knew of this garbage in advance. Must be nice to buy space on Conan and hype up a game this embarrassingly poor. I'm sorry that I'm speaking like this, but I think it's a downright scam that companies are taking advantage of gamers over and over again. It shows you have zero respect for the people lining your pockets. Over and over again, companies aren't giving us next gen anything, it's bug-ridden, latency-ridden, framerate-stuttering, day one nonsense. Destiny and now this, this generation of gaming has nothing of its former self, just the same - or worse - garbage from the last gen with maybe a few graphical sparkles thrown in for good measure. How is this "next gen?"

First, Bethesda has some optimizing left to do. For anyone that loves Skyrim. there are some of the same issues. Although I am about 20 hrs in to the game and this game does not have nearly as many bugs as Skyrim. It seems that every great game that has come out this year has had optimization problems. Let's hope that Bethesda will be patching this as well.

Second, The learning curve is very steep. It is not hard to get lost in all the mechanics and it is a bit unfortunate that this head spinning affect kind of detracts from the start of the story. My suggestion is to go in for a few hours on a character and then start over so that you can really enjoy everything without worrying about figuring out mechanics.

This is such a massive game with a ton of working parts. Once you get past the learning curve, that's when the real fun begins.

The conversations and voice acting are much improved from Skyrim and Fallout 3 or NV. There are people that you actually get to know. The gun play is a huge improvement and my favorite part is tweaking my guns down to the last piece. Waiting for a mediocre gun with an awesome scope so that I can take it to upgrade my best sniper.

The best part is that you can do what ever you want. Want to be a muscle bound cannibal that heals in radiation and kills super mutants with a tire iron. Go for it. Want to build a ton of settlements and repopulate the world with followers. Do it. Want to massively specialize or average all of your stats out and be a jack of all trades. Completely up to you. The possibilities are endless.

Great game to get lost in. I definitely suggest as one of the best games of 2015.

I dont think you should review a game unless you beat it because Fallout 4 is a massive game and there is always something that someone will like. And 0, really!! A zero is a game like Big Rigs or Rogue Warrior that are almost unplayable, if you want to compare Fallout 4 with Big Rigs than your standards are way too high. Most of the people creating fake accounts and fake reviews are Witcher 3 fans that feel threatened by this game. Expand

The gameplay feels fresh while still retaining the old Fallout charm. There are a few bugs present, as there are in almost all open world games, but the strengths of Fallout 4 vastly outweigh its weaknesses. Play this game for the atmosphere, the experience, and for the rich open world full of adventure. 9/10

Amazing game! Much better story than in F3, beautiful graphics and great crafting system. Ever since I left Vault 111 it took my attention like sponge. I recommend this game to everyone who likes post-apo games. Absolutely No. 1! (Maybe except for Skyrim). I completely don't understand those, who rate it 0. I suppose it is the first game they have ever played.

The problem of Fallout 4 and MGSV is very similar that they both overly emphasis on leveling, collecting and mission part in contrast to GTAV and Witcher 3 that are more focusing on the own story of independent protagonist.

In Fallout4 and MGSV, what I feel about protagonists is more like a worker ordered to finish bunch of repetitive missions. The protagonists are lack of self motivation and purpose of living, and thus not able to build/push their own story ahead but to be an object/interface that you use to access the virtual world. In other words, they are inferior, relentless and neglectable, and I feel their story are mostly stiffly padded by narrates rather than developed during the progression of the their own doing.

In GTAV and Witcher3, dev put more work on depicting the mental development as the result of the surrounding events, and the story is actually progressed by the ambition and action of protagonist self. You can annotate this as that they are more susceptible/sensitive to the surrounding and have strong desire to achieve something mentally and independently. These makes a much more vivd and motivated feeling of a real human you are playing and experiencing a true life from him who want to do some amazing things to make himself unique, rather than a robot thrown into a open world to serve as a slaver.

Nowadays, the in-game world is exaggerated to a distorted proportion to characterization. In the extreme form, we know its called sandbox which some devs think is the future, but no! Not only the current and near future tech is far from enough to make player self to create a memorable and wholesome character in game, also it will be a tragedy if that becomes true. We don't want an object to control but a human with story to experience.

After all, Fallout 4 failed to create a protagonist who should act as an independent, self-motivated and susceptible real HUMAN and an engaging story struggled by the protagonist's own ass out. Next time, please focus on characters rather than just that open world.

I literally stopped playing last night as I had work this morning and I cant be bothered going back. Instead I've downloaded the new DLC for Witcher 3.
I would try and say to those ho are massive Bethesda, Skyrim, Fallout 3 fans to try it out, but honestly I really can't recommend it, I shouldn't. I feel really let down and we're all pretty much just contributing to our own disappointment. They know we'll just buy these games no matter what.

    Gameplay:
Well from what I have played, it feels fairly solid. I like the VATS System, and the new loot system where I don't have to go into a menu to loot I can just take what I want and leave. The shooting side of things is slightly odd (Well for me anyway). Coming from shooters like Battlefield, Destiny and so on, I will say it does feel a bit out of place but I guess it just takes getting used too. The AI doesn't seem very smart, constantly getting stuck on objects in the world and what not... but I really couldn't care less to be honest. I ran into a graphical bug as soon as I left the house at the beginning of the game where the everything went black but yeah again kinda typical of Bethesda so wasn't surprised there, I just laughed. The building side of things I thought was interesting despite the stupid Key Bindings they used to access it but whatever. The guns feel solid which to me is a good thing. I haven't done too much crafting as of yet but yeah it feels pretty good.

    Performance:
Well yeah... Smooth, Smooth, Lag, Smooth, Lag... Now this really grinds my gears as I know that they are capable of getting the game to run solid but are most probably too lazy to really dig deep and make it work. There are so many other open world games that have far greater details yet run better. No excuses for this one.

    Overall:
I enjoyed what time I have put into the game and look forward to continuing my adventure in the Wasteland. I would (Despite the obvious flaws) Recommend this game.

Many of the things they had previously promised were not included in the final product which kinda sucks. The story can feel dull at times and slow. The fact is that it's basically the same old thing as Fallout 3, just a different story and some new additions thrown in there. The graphics aren't great but they surely aren't terrible. Character's faces can look really ugly at times but everything else seems to be alright. And it's not like Fallout New Vegas was anything spectacular for 2010. The gunplay is very fun and pretty addicting, I have no complaints there, and the crafting system is pretty good (although sometimes it gets annoying when things don't fit into places correctly). Overall it is a good game, and a good addition to the Fallout franchise, but before you buy it you might want to wait until it is patched and up to standards. I don't agree with most of these ratings all at 0, and I know all those people aren't going to agree with me either, but I think the reason all these people are so butthurt about it is because there was way to much hype for this game, and the final product failed to meet that hype. I have been thoroughly enjoying the game so far at about 10 hours in, and the thing is that if you judge the game based of the other Fallout games quality then people will say it sucks, but on it's own, it's pretty good. This game has been out for about 26 hours now. This is a game that has over 400 hours of content. The only people who have actually had a chance to play the game enough to write a credible review are the critics.

I would like to address the "complaints" in most reviews.

    1. "This is a simplified, dumbed down version of Fallout 3". Oh really? I wasn't aware that Fallout 3 had incredibly deep weapon crafting systems, scavenging, house building, farming, and settlements. It has everything Fallout 3 had and MUCH more.

    2. "The graphics are bad". Nope, the faces look bad. That's it. The world, environments, and atmosphere are absolutely breathtaking. The fact that they made such a large world have so much detail is an incredible accomplishment. It should also be noted that Bethesda started working on this game in 2009. The faces are 5/10. The rest of the graphics are 9/10.

3."This isn't an RPG". Really? That's weird. I've never seen a game with multiple individual item characteristics such as damage, damage resistance, weight, rate of fire and whatnot that also includes a deep leveling system with tons of perks, no level cap, and HUNDREDS of quests that WASN'T AN RPG. Absolutely absurd.

I've played this game for about 4 hours and I absolutely love it so far. These complaints are ridiculous. I will review again when I am deeper into it.

For now, this 10/10 is a small attempt at offsetting some of the unnecessarily bad reviews.

It is nothing revolutionary but if you loved FO3/FO:NV then this is a perfect next step in the series. The exploration and world is top notch as always, best of any game Ive ever played. It also has new weapon/armor mods and the settlement building system, which I enjoy very much. As a person with slight OCD, just building the settlement and scrapping materials has kept me enthralled for several hours and Ive barely scratched the surface of the systems.

I will say this is not a game for everyone, if you are from the CoD set and love tons of action and multiplayer death match, than this is not the game for you. If you love exploration and being a total completionist but hate hours and hours of repetitive action with no depth, than you will have a hard time finding a better game than FO4.

I created an account just because of the trend that is happening on Metacritic user reviews. Basically, it has become detached from the gaming itself. For most people who enjoy the game, they are playing it right now.

It is a loooong game. Don't believe any reviews from people on here. Recognize that the game is an upgraded version of Fallout 3. That is, and I feel like an idiot

Special is way better and the perk tree is top notch. There is FPS drop sometimes (I've yet to have it last longer that 1-2 seconds at a time). The graphics are great for PS4. If you can't take the graphics, why are you even playing a console? Get a computer. It will ALWAYS be the best graphical version. You don't have to go to town after every instance to repair your guns and armor...I can't even believe people are griping about that. Yes, there is building in this game. It's not vital as far as I can tell...just something a little extra. I heard someone complain the wasteland doesn't feel ALIVE. Ummm..it's a freaking wasteland? What are you expecting?

Anyway, so since everyone is playing the game (just check twitch and see the numbers for yourself) it leaves the salty trolls here on Metacritic all by themselves. This was a triple A release and look how many people have taken the time to even rate it on here. The community is dying and only you are left...ironically killing it faster.

Long story short, is this game the best thing since sliced bread? Not even. Why would you even be looking for that kind of thing in a video game? Is it a great game? Yes.

They must have tried it out right? because no normal dev would bring something that bad in to a game.
The RP is really bad and Story is not good at all either! The game feels so unfinished with all bugs that pops ups! And this must be the first game in years if played that doesn't use a Checkpoint system, instead it autosaves every 10min.
Overall its not a good game and you should not listen to the 10+ votes. go read the 4 - 7 reviews if you want the honest opinion of this game.

Being a Philosophy major, I'll help people understand the problems here. Fallout 4 is not a good game because it was created not with the content or art of the game in mind but the money. There is evidence to show, and in fact business/accounting majors are taught this phenomenon that happens globally, that when money becomes a reward for doing an action, intellectual involvement decreases as well as detail oriented work and consideration decreases. This corresponds to the game in that this was an anticipated blockbuster hit. Because the money came first probably since the marketing team oversees many projects within a company, the game lost what would have made it a "True" fallout game like that of New Vegas and 3. Intuitively, this is easy to see from the marketer's perspective, "Do I pay this story writer three times more than I do now for a good story in this game and get payed less or do I just make sure the bells and whistles work long enough to make more money and cut out a story?" Simple answer, the marketer is taught how to make money. Don't expect a mathematician to work with artists about how to make art theory more rigorous. Don't expect a theologian to try to give arguments against the existence of God. Don't expect the marketer to worry about the aesthetic value of Fallout 4 in dealing with choice, determinism, literature, story, and experience. He worries about cash. Extend this to other games. Call of Duty franchise after CoD4, League of Legends with not well thought-out champions, World of Warcraft after Wrath of Lich King with bland armor designs, dumbed down lore, etc... Bethesda will learn that people didn't come to see cheap county art fair drawings. We came to see the next piece of art that guides the gaming community and creators. Money is easily forgotten, but destruction of reputation is a deep scar. Let this be a lesson for any company that thinks a marketer can do better than a chef, musician, programmer, engineer, scientist, painter, mathematician, or a philosopher. Leave those arts to their masters, not a person looking to make a profit off of it.

    Sincerely,
    A gamer.

It's about taking in the world as a whole and Bethesda has generated a masterpiece equivalent to Skyrim with this. Negative reviews criticizing the addition of nothing new have either not played the game or very little of it. Weapon crafting, town building, power armor as a fully functioning equipment set- that's only a fraction of the new mechanics added. Let's look into things a little more closely, shall we?

    A:Music/Sounds

The music and sounds in a fallout game never disappoints. It really brings back the old classic songs that everyone loves, while mixing in stunning and beautiful background music. The sounds of swinging a baseball bat, hitting something in the environment - heck, even footsteps are great to hear in this game. They did not disappoint in this aspect. The music is not as good as some games that I have seen and I really didn't notice it much, but that is probably because of just how well it mixes in with the gameplay.

9/10 WITH my Thumbs Up of Approval

    B: Graphics

I don't care what anyone else says about the graphics. Don't let their slander sway your opinion on this game. The graphics are superb, have you even taken one good look at the environment? Seriously, the improvement in this game from Fallout 3 and New Vegas is incredible. Sure, there was a 7 year gap between the two but who cares? Who cares if Dogmeat has flat textures on his body? His face doesn't! There are so many things in this game that you can really take in and appreciate. Graphics, are definitely one of them. When the Lone Wanderer interacts with his Pip-Boy, you can really see the dirt in his thumbs. Fantastic graphics, in my opinion.

    9/10

    C: Gameplay

If I was to say everything about the gameplay in this one review, it would take literally hours of our time. So I'm going to skip ahead to the major parts. Running around and exploring is great in this game. Seeing all of the different sights, landmarks and cities are a major highlight of the game. You'll be walking around peacefully for one second, then BOOM! You get attacked by raiders. You might look up in the sky and think of the amazing weather then BOOM! Some weird radiation storm occurs and then you need to get into shelter to shield yourself. The gunfights in this game are great, and you enjoy having them. Watching people get knocked back from your baseball bat blows is satisfying, and you can just sit back and watch the enemies TRY to hurt you while you're listening to the radio in your power armour. One of the newest and greatest additions to this game is making your own settlement. Find a good plot of land, scrap the random pieces of land around and then build with your materials. You can build huge bases, turrets, stores, farms, skyscrapers and even have people join you. In Fallout 3, I had trouble finding a town that had everything that I needed to survive. In Fallout 4, you BUILD the town that has everything for you to survive. As you build and your land becomes more valuable, Raiders will come and attack you. So, you need to set up Guard Towers, Turrets and Traps to survive. This feature of the game is so incredibly fun, and I have poured 7 hours into building ALONE. The freedom in this game is massive. You find someone who you believe is nice to be around, but has a nice gun? Kill him if you want. Become friends with him if you want. Rob him if you want. Marry him if you want. Become enemies with him if you want. I haven't gone into a lot of aspects of gameplay in this game, but trust me. You won't be disappointed with this. People complain about FPS drops on the PS4 version and frequent crashes, but with my brother and I's combined playtime of around 18 hours, we have not experienced one crash. There are FPS drops, but not as bad as everyone else puts them at. Trust me, you'll love it.

10/10 WITH my Thumbs Up of Approval

    D: Story

What story? You make up your own story in this game. That is what makes it so great. Alright, there is a main plot, so I guess I'll tell you that without going into spoiler territory. A Nuclear War has turned the world into a barren wasteland, but you start the game before this happens. You start out as a veteran in the war, and because of this - you have been preselected to enter a vault that will protect you, your wife and your child when this happens. Nuclear bombs start being dropped where you live, so you enter the vault. When you enter the vault, you get frozen for 200 whole years - you then emerge as the lone survivor of Vault 111, in search of your infant child who was kidnapped. Not going to go any further than that. From that point onwards, you make your own story (And if you want, follow the main story) You can become a hero, raider, outlaw, serial killer, thief, mayor, lone wanderer, explorer or a trader. There's more than that, but I can't get into them right now.

10/10 WITH my Thumbs Up of Approval

Okay, now for the final verdict. I can't get into any more than this at risk of hitting the character limit. So, my final verdict for Fallout 4 is...

I can not put this game down. Every time I look at the clock fours have gone by. It is strange coming into this game after playing the Battlefront game and seeing the crazy graphics on that game. Fallout is not going to win in the graphics category but a pretty Fallout game might suck, I want a little dirt in my wasteland. I like the graphics but may not be everyones cup of tea.

What I think could have been done better is what everyone else has already mentioned: the main story. There is nothing ground breaking about it, nor is it delivered in such a way that you want to relate to or even help the main character. But that's not even one of the main draws of this game. The best part of this game is the main reason everyone should have bought it for. The exploration. That's why Bethesda markets their product as an open world rpg. If it was marketed as a deep story driven emotional experience then yes, everyone should be mad. But don't complain that it doesn't have the story quality of say Chrono Trigger, or Metal Gear.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Felt compelled to give an opinion on this one. This game is a massive disappointment so I bullet the reasons why. IMHO, I bulleted important and then made comparisons to previous games.

    - Voiced character/Commander Shepherd, accept much worse, has a dialogue box that destroys any form of imagination and immersion. Yes, like 5-8 word responses, sometimes taken exactly from the dialogue boxes. Codsworth, your robotic butler, has more emotion then your player character. He's like Commander Shepherd with a T-800 automated voice response. This is a major step backward for the game franchise. The opening narration and ending from your voice character was good and so was the end. There was no need to change the dialogue system and they did. It's really, really not good.

    2. Game world appears to be significantly smaller then FO3 and FNV. We are talking a DLC sized map. They spent seven years to bring us this?!!

    3. Game characters are inferior to the cast of colorful characters in FO3 and especially, FNV.

    4. Fallout 4 asks the question what would happen if we reversed the main plotline with the two main cast of characters? Still confused? Don't worry, you'll find out when you play.

    5. A lot of game glitches and optimization issues. This is handing a broken game to gamers for $60. FNV was attacked on release by major reviewers, but most are sold (bought, kaching, kaching) on this one.

    6. Get BOS power armor in 20 minutes and kill a death claw.

Now with those impressions out of the way, I really don't know what to say. FO3 and FNV are superior games . The game reminds me of a good launch title to show off a system, sort of like what it did at the E3 press conference. It reminds me of the game RAGE. In fact, I was having more fun with Rage at this point. Meaning a colorful vibrant world, but a lack of dialogue, depth, speech points, and a story recycled and rehashed from FO3. Diamond City looks like Megaton. The lack of any type of ingenuity or progression in this game is staggering.

Fallout 3 is a phenomenal game, possibly one of the best games of all time. FNV had some flaws, but made up for its hilarious dialogue, quirkiness of Characters and plots (Yes Man flipping general off Hoover Dam, ding a ding ding baby, crossdressing, super mutant Tabitha, the Elvis gang, ghouls in rocket ships, the lottery winner, the excellent idiocy of Fantastic, the various factions, and moral choices throughout the game). FNV was flawed but it was hilarious and sometimes was superior to FO3, having the dark comedy of FO and FO2. The fun of the characters, along with the snide and hilarious responses are gone. I named my character Commander Shepherd btw lol.

The issue of this game stems from the continued lack of ingenuity, sequelitis, and a half polished game for a cash grab.

The game is a 6. The graphics are of a good quality and the locations are good, when you're not talking. It's not groundbreaking in any way shape or form. Personally, this is the worst disappointment since the ME 3 ending. Yes, I think its that bad. It may actually be worse. We'll see.

So do yourself a favor and buy this at your own risk. This is not a revival of the game franchise. It is a devival of the highest caliber. Unless you a hardcore fan, you will be disappointed with this one. Hopefully, this allow gamers to think twice about this one, before buying it if at all. The game is anywhere between a 5-7 on a scale of 1-10.

Not a 9-10 from all of the game reviewers and Let's Players who broke street date, thank you so much so drop a "like" and then get cash and repeat, like Bethesda. I worry about Elder Scrolls and hopefully they'll learn from this one. So please complain and speak up. They need to hear it.

    YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. I'm out.

A lot of the things that made the previous Fallouts so fun are just dumbed down or broken in this latest instalment. The dialogue system is just pure garbage. I don't see any point in RPG style charisma play through what-so-ever, which is something I did in all previous Fallouts.

The S.P.E.C.I.A.L. is also dumbed down to a point where your choices don't even matter. You can just upgrade your base stats at level-up, so your initial "character" does not affect your play style at all. Not that it would anyway, because I don't see any effect of the stats on the game play apart from being able to carry more ****

The story so far, well, it's the same beginning as in every other Fallout really. However, the story progression and the NPC's you meet are extremely one dimensional and I actually feel like murdering them all rather than having to suffer through the painfully uninspiring dialogues.

I personally do not care for the graphics that much, which seems to be a major gripe for a lot of people, but this game is just not up to par in next gen gaming. What's worse is that it is actually VERY difficult to spot enemies without using VATS due to the "improved" graphics, particularly when compared to New Vegas.

At launch, it is filled with bugs and **** The framerate is at times abysmal. The character gets stuck on invisible obstacles, and so forth. If it wasn't a Fallout game, I would have quite playing after the first 4 hours.

    Final word:
Am I going to finish the game? Abso-fcking-lutely.
Am I going to replay it? No.
    Is this the GOTY? NO!

If you're someone whos a big RPG fan, you're going to be disappointed. If you're neither of those you might have a good time with the game but if you do i strongly advise you whip out the last gen systems and play FO3/NV (Especially NV).

Now for a more in depth look at this game. First of im going to list what was improved upon, because though the game is bad i feel like for this to be a fair review these FEW things have to be acknowledge.

    1. The gun play is the improvement every Fallout player was hoping for. Its still not a perfect system, but its leaps and bounds from the last iterations of the franchise.

    2. The character creation is pretty fantastic, though the graphics dont allow this to shine as much as a graphically more impressive game would.

    3. The settlement feature is fun and adds quite a bit whilst being completely optional.

    4. Voice acting is much improved in terms of voice variations. Some of it still sounds poorly read.

    5. Animations all round are better (but again, not perfect or anywhere near) which leads to more interesting fights, different enemies have much more varied attacks than before.

Those are what i believe to be the improvements. Now the important stuff. What did Bethesda do to absolutely ruin this game. Here goes:

    1. Dialog wheel, dialog wheel, dialog wheel. When. Will. RPG Devs. Learn. I dont understand how this idea got past in a meeting. There have been numerous RPG's which have implemented this along with voice acting from a more traditional system and precisely ZERO have gotten better because of it. Did no one learn from the travesty which is now the Dragon age series? It limits what you are able to say/ask. You get limited information on what you're going to say which can lead to ridiculous encounters where you're blurting out stuff that is completely different to what you thought. And to implement it into a game the WHOLE dialog system has to be dumbed down, no skill related conversation options - what replaced it is pitiful and not fit for purpose.

    2. The environment is very boring from my experience. The major city in this game is ludicrously small and the map is not much better. There are a lot of side quests and encounters but im talking just the general environment, it all looks very similar and dull to the eye. Boston is the weakest setting so far.

    3. You dont appear to have much of an impact on the world, much like Skyrim. This is no Witcher 3 ladies and gents, Bethesda got this completely wrong and makes major decisions seem trivial.

    4. A very black or white morality with no reputation system or karma. IMO a step backwards for the series as it could have been improved upon from that last games and been made into a really enjoyable and in depth mechanic. Bethesda decided to scrap it instead.

    5. The perks...lord, the perks are terrible. Not that what they offer is bad, or even that there isnt variety. Just that without a skill system it all seems rather empty and shallow. Again, instead of improving upon a mechanic that people liked that just scrapped it to make it simpler.

    6. Your companions are just as dumb as the were before if not more this time. I swear dog meat spends more time in front of me in doorways than he does following. Again, you cant switch them from ranged to melee anymore, you can change how they fight. Another mechanic which could of been improved upon and made brilliant but instead was scrapped for a simpler less satisfying and frankly annoying system.

    7. The story has MAJOR pacing issues. Its all over the place, gets good after a few hours in but Bethesda needs to hire some better writers because it doesnt hold up with other game of the same genre. Not even close.

    8. New legendary monsters. This one might be just me because what they've chosen to do is a creative choice rather than just a bad decision. But basically its like borderlands. You get random really strong monsters on side quests or when you're exploring and they drop better loot. But calling them legendary really waters down the experience of fighting them. After fighting 'legendary' mongrels that are less than two feet tall and somehow take twenty bullets on normal difficulty the system just seems really stupid and arcadey. It doesnt suit fallout at all. I hope to god they take it out i feel like im playing some god awful MMO. In other Fallouts named raiders etc would be exciting, because they're characters, and they might have a story behind them. But now they just fade into the abyss of endless slain legendary enemies who sponge bullets. It waters it down.

The whole game just feels watered down. For every step forward they took two steps backward. Fallout 4 is an average game whilst being a TERRIBLE RPG and an even worse sequel. I hope these reviews get noticed by someone in Bethesda.

In terms of the game, some choices were made that made it better, some choices may not be too great, but as a game? It's incredible for what sixty dollars can buy you. People are satisfied spending sixty bucks EVERY year for Call of Duty or sports games which is the SAME. EXACT. THING. EVERY. TIME. but when it comes to this, "Oh it's the same game, nothing too new" like really? Does that make any sense? Did Halo 5 falling short upset people that now they have to knock down a titan to make it seem balanced? Users shouldn't be allowed to review a game. How is this game a 0? 0 is non-functional. I'm pretty damn sure this game is functional.

In short: The game is certainly worth the money and your time. It's going to have things that will upset some or make other extremely happy but in general? It's still the fallout you know and love and for people who believe that this game is a 5.4? or a 4.3? Go **** yourself.

The game is very streamlined for casual players, and the story isn't an exception. I won't spoil the ending, but if you didn't like Fallout 3's ending pre-Broken Steel, you're going to hate this one.

To put it simply. This game is huge step backwards for the fallout series nothing added bar the crafting is an improvement. The dialogue, skills and perks overhaul was a huge mistake and honestly makes the game inferior in most ways to 3 and NV. If you like fallout go play Tales of Two Wastelands, I promise it will be far more satisfying.

For example, to be able to kill every character, even if this effectively ends the main questline, the option still needs to be there. Also needs the option of hardcore mode (which surely would not be too hard to put in given the attention to detail in other areas), also other simple options like your dog being able to die (again surely not hard to implement). I'm nowhere near the end yet but if there are no different settlement endings I will be disappointed by this, though I understand what Bethesda are trying to do by having the game run on past the main ending, but again there needs to be an option. I also miss traits, they were valuable to roleplaying. And I don't mind the new perk system, but how hard would it have been to put some SPECIAL stat related options into the dialogue as well, those were some of the best parts about new Vegas.

Despite these gripes, I do love the game, and I have played all the other fallouts as they were released barring the first. If this were just a little more like new Vegas it could be a 9 or 10, particularly with the new features. I just hope Bethesda listens to their fans and adds in the options for these small changes, it would go a long way towards mollifying long term fans of the series. I truly believe Bethesda is passionate about the fallout universe and I hope to see more from them, but please Bethesda, if anyone from your offices is reading this, please just listen to your fans and keep up the (almost) excellent work.

Just give me my options back!

Let the record show: I like the game. It's good. But It's a Fallout RPG that was released late 2015, so it must be compared to other Fallout games and 2015 RPGs for perspective. And when you do that, you realise how much better you could do.

Fallout 4 was focus-grouped into severe mundanity - yes - but it is still a good game. If another developer made this and called it Fallout 1, I would have clicked thumbs up. But they didn't and it's the 5th in the series so it deserves to receive rough criticism for such blunderous errors and pitiful simplifications. Conversations aren't as interesting, or quick as the Witcher 3 or with a certainty, Deus ex: Human Revolution. The shooting is more "powerful", but not as mechanically risky or difficult as old Fallout games. Repairing is gone (it's almost funny). But the wasteland is interesting and the radio is also good.

6.5/10 (as a fallout game made by Bethesda)
8/10 (as Fallout 1 made by imaginary new studio.)

I know it's not the same game, the RPG feature being the major factor in why people buy the majority of Bethesda games. But with the setting being quite similar it makes it very difficult for me not to compare the two (especially after playing in 3rd person mode). The game doesn't feel like it's progressed enough since Fallout 3, certainly not enough for 7 years and on a new generation of consoles. The frame-rate consistently drops way below its capped 30fps, very frustrating bugs when playing and a broken autosave function that basically just doesn't.. save.. After about 4 hours straight gameplay, and after numerous "autosaves" I died. This returned me way back, literally missions back. I had trophies for missions I completed, then had to complete the missions again. After re-doing the missions, I found the only way to do it is to manual save, which can be quite frustrating as it's so easy to forget in 2015.

Remembering when The Last of Us was released on Playstation 3, visually it was better than this is, the gameplay was a hell of a lot smoother and although it did have bugs they weren't game-changing, the gameplay was good enough to forgive and so was the story. For this being a story-oriented game, I expected a lot better after eagerly awaiting it since its announcements' teasing announcement. The last of Us, for me personally, has really set the bar for the whole post-apocalyptic theme and this game falls way, way short of it in any way.

Despite this, the game is still playable to an extent and would hope that the game isn't so bug-filled and disappointing for others. I have full faith that Bethesda will patch the problems sooner rather than later, they really won't want to lose any more reputation on a big game leading up to Christmas. But until these fixes are popped-up in the top left corner of my screen with a v1.02 update, my copy is staying in the shelf.

And people, I know it's bad right now, but giving it 0/10 implies it's one of the worst games ever made. We all know that award is a fight between the annual murder of the COD and FIFA franchises.

Fallout 4 with upscaled textures, same resolution. Graphically it's a shame, it does not look like a current-gen game. It looks like someone ripped Skyrim and upscaled the textures a bit. Almost no shadows anywhere and framerates routinely drop below 20 FPS in heated battles.

Gameplay, it's more Fallout 3 with building mechanics. Nothing really new to the table.

Well here we are, Fallout 4 is finally out to the masses and we've all no doubt spent countless hours creating our character, exploring the world, looking for junk in every single dilapidated building and cupboard, drawer, dead body etc....

So let me start this by saying I have played all of FO3 and FONV as well as Skyrim and many other RPG's both new and old. I've also spent roughly 10 hours in FO4 so far, which is by no means a long time. Especially considering my first 2 hours were spent with the character creation screen and then looting everything in sight upon leaving the vault.

It feels very "familiar". It feels like a prettier version of previous Fallout games, this might be bad to some and good to others. For me it is OKAY. I am not fussed either way, but it does feel a little bit stale to be completely honest.

From a technical perspective the game clearly looks like a last gen re-fresh, don't get me wrong - it can be rather beautiful at times and the game world is lovely fleshed out with detail, but the closer you look the more rubbish you see at times. Some characters are beautifully rendered and animated, then others look like their face is melting and a blind person wrote their animation codes with lip sync and facial animation looking rather horrific. Technically it is not ground breaking nor wonderful, but it is perfectly serviceable and should be a good baseline for future bethesda games.

I will say however that it suffers from catastrophic FPS drops on the PS4, in the first section as you're walking around the vault I experienced somewhere in the region of 15-20fps just by stepping in and out of the chryo-chambers. Then at other times it would just stutter for a second and completely jar you out of the world. Fortunately I have not experienced any crashes or game breaking problems (YET).

On the gameplay and story front, I guess the best I can say is that it feels like every other FO game I have played. Which again to some is good and others will be bad. The customisation options and ability to create/have your own bases to build is great and will appeal to the people out there who love this kind of thing. The storyline and side quests all feel very familiar again, I won't spoil anything for obvious reasons, but it doesn't feel as impactful as the Witcher 3 or even GTA5 to certain extents.

Overall FO4 is a good game, it is not without its flaws and it will appeal to a lot of people. But I cannot help but feel that is is somewhat tarnished by the big bethesda name, in that, most people can see them doing no wrong / the hype surrounding FO4.

I used the word familiar a lot in describing FO4. That is pretty much what I can say about it in a nutshell. It is a familiar game set in a familiar world with a familiar storyline and familiar way of progressing through the world. To me that is OKAY, to others it will be and is cause for annoyance and to some it will be amazing.

Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
