Fallout 4 is the newest installment in Bethesda's saga about life in the post-apocalyptic world. The Elder Scrolls, Rage, and Dishonored have been Bethesda's previous successful games, it's no surprise what they have brought us in the Fallout games. Fallout 4 feels very similar to Skyrim in the sense that is uses the same engine which I personally liked and got used to it very easily unlike Oblivion's engine which took me a while to get the hang of.

    Gameplay:
The first thing that the game wants you to do is to create your character. The features on this are more than I anticipated it to be; I thought it would be like Skyrim's character design, but this one is way more specific. For instance, you can model your character's eyebrows, face textures, and the shape of your ears. Unlike all of other Bethesda's games, this is the first game from them to have the protagonist a voice. I was surprised when I first found out that this was an actual feature that was going to be added in the game. After you create your character, you are in a first-person mode which feels great to look at and easy to control. There are many types of places when you get out in the vast, huge open world that you will be exploring for many hours. I also like how your decisions in the game could have a huge impact on the main story or side-missions, saying positive and negative things could lead to different situations in the missions you are doing. The A.I could be a little funky at times, like when you get your dog companion, as it could sometimes feel is if he is following you at one moment, then the next he isn't. There are also some minor problems with the dog, as he could find one item, but there really is nothing there. I personally enjoy how Bethesda brought the gameplay to a whole new level, with designing weapons, building fortresses, and how the leveling up system works.

    Graphics:
While certainly not top-notch, the game is beautiful to look at. Like with many other games from Bethesda, there are some graphical bugs and errors that can be easily spotted just from defeating some enemy or an environment issue such as items falling through the floor, or enemy's randomly dying for no reason.

    Soundtrack:
As for most of Bethesda's games, they all have an original soundtrack. The Fallout games is no stranger when it comes to amazing soundtrack recordings and intense moments when you are fighting enemies. The soundtrack while looking around the environment is very calm and quiet, it kind of makes you feel that you are the only one out in the open world.

Overall, Fallout 4 did not ruin my expectations for the game. The game is beautiful to look at, it's very easy to enjoy, and has tons of content. The game was anticipated by many players since the day it was first announced. This maybe one of the best Bethesda games ever, and probably one of the best game you will play all year.

It feels more realistic maintaining live action but with it slowed down it still gives you time to scan your surroundings for best way to approach the rest of your encounter. There is also fun builds focusing on VATS. Third would have to be the new settlements. This is a fun addition to the game that you can spend many hours on. It also makes sense that as the savior of the wasteland you would build settlements for people to live in safely.

Okay as far as the bad I will admit the graphics look dated but Bethesda is giving us mods which will surly include texture packs. Another big issue is they got rid of Reputation and Karma... these were vital in maintaining responsibility in actions. If you travel alone especially you will notice no negative effects for stealing at all unless your caught which of course if your getting caught stealing your playing wrong.

If they mod in or patch in some improved textures and the addition of karma with town reps the game will be near perfect.

I still take a few moments to stop and watch when a rad storm moves in. While out exploring the land, you will come across an immense amount of lootable items. Luckily this time around, Bethesda has made every single one of these items useful. No more picking and choosing as was a huge headache in Elder Scrolls. Building your settlements is hugely addictive. The build menus are a bit clunky and take time to get used to. Also the restrictive camera can make placement of certain structure elements a frustrating lesson in trial and error. The story so far has also been a lackluster attempt and the opening sequence felt almost tacked on. Of course it wouldn't be a Bethesda game without the presence of some periodic glitches although nothing game breaking yet. Pacing is also sometimes curious. If you are a player that prefers to focus primarily on story missions, then you are going to have a difficult time. Huge difficulty spikes in story missions and even en route to a story location will force you to retreat and improve weapons, armor, and supplies before making another attempt. All in all, this is a solid game with a learning curve. Definitely a recommend for any open world gamer. Expand

I played for about 12 hours and the game crashed 4 times and glitched out several times more. However Fallout 4 was a bit harder to forgive as it didn't strike me as all that ambitious. The Witcher 3 is ambitious. Fallout 4 at times felt LAZY by comparison. I don't believe that graphics make a game, and I certainly wasn't expecting much from a Bethesda game (I mean, come on it's Bethesda). But I still couldn't shake the constant feeling of "I wish they had tried a bit harder" as I observed some of the fine details in the game. Also, after 12 hours the story still hadn't drawn me in and I found myself zoning out during a lot of the sidequest dialogues, so I ultimately decided to return it to Amazon. I hope Bethesda releases some patches soon to fix all the bugs and crashes for people who are enjoying the game. Expand

Like many I wait to read the reviews before I buy a game as in this day and age sometimes game companies loose touch with reality and in the ever onslaught of copy and paste - rebrand with a new game name and sell for 60 bucks. Like many I read the review's and it was neck and neck.. so games like this are hard to pull the trigger on.. The one word I kept seeing a lot was SKYRIM so... to me that could never be a bad thing. So I bought the game and well its SKYRIM love it or hate it...

    First few days :
At first I wasn't impressed.. the graphics don't bother me they are good enough.. the bugs don't bother me which I have not seen many.. they are funny when they do happen much like Skyrim. The voice acting is blah... the biggest gripe is the storyline is subpar to say the least.. so far .. I'm LVL 9 so maybe it will get better. However right out the gate... really... your telling me 80 people at the game studio could not come up with a better story line... what did you guys have a brown bag , draw it up on the whiteboard in 10 min... Bethesda would have been better off to bring in some 6 year olds and have them do the storyline... ATLEAST IT WOULD HAVE BEEN ORGINAL... (not joking) I get it , the concept of Fallout is post war but I can write on paper already 10 great concepts with that.. instead of the preferably opening scene of the game... but whatevs.... just the content alone and everything else offsets it. My last disappointment was how easy it was... I'm flying through the game with no real challenge... WHY DO I NEED A SUIT OF ARMOR when I'm already kicking azzzz.. One last pet peeve... the game is G rated / PG rated at times then other times R / rated... can we get some consistency here... Its a game for adults obviously..

    After a few days:
I'M FREAKING LOVING THIS GAME... I must have overlooked it but there is a difficulty setting.. I bumped it up to survivability and now everything is so worth it.. Now I barley leave home with out my armor suit :) This is a tad harder setting then Legendary setting on Skyrim .. cause we all know after you get your gear made even legendary wasn't to hard. NOW all those perks people are complaining about are vital... every bullet... every tin can you pick up... it all counts. Right now I'm lvl 13 . Very early stages but I'm enjoying the game for what it is and not rushing through it...

I bought this for PS4 to play through the first time... Once the mods start rolling out on PC I will pick up another copy ...

Just a honest opinion from my prospective... hopefully this will help someone. If you loved Skyrim then this game was made for you... get it you wont be disappointed in that aspect. It really is a good game and after getting into it I'm glad I didn't waste my money.

The atmosphere, the dialogues, the wandering and exploring, the mindblowing yourney and things you encounter and can do, all of epic proportion. If you dare to give this a 4 or 0 or even in terms of such lame comments, you shouldn't be here or play games in the first place.
The graphics are not the very best this gen has to offer but ALL of it in the package makes up for that. The graphics are very decent enough to completely suck you in and even amaze you at times. This game is extraordinary ambitious and fun. A must own. If not go away and play wii sports.

First group probably played in rush to make a review and you can see from what they say and write that didn't made big progress in game. That is not their fault, only a couple days for Monday (end of embargo), also at beginning I thought that title is really good. The problem is the more you play it, the more bad mechanics and ideas you see. I am not talking about graphics or bugs. Really for so huge game bugs are normal and never in my case they limited or destroyed my game play. Of course I got like 1 game error on ps4 and 3 times game didn't start properly (same error, I had to start game again from system menu) during 55-60 hours of game play. These are not a reason that will make me to give that game 0/10. No I accept that in such project over time after patches most of those issues will be sorted.
I also have to mention graphics because people give fallout bad review just for this reason. On ps4 game looks worse than on PC, sometimes framerate drops, not all textures looks sharp. But still overall game looks nice,

Real problems start when you progress in the game, start to make all of those quests along with main one. Actually yesterday after around 60 hours of gameplay I decided that I can't play this game anymore. I didn't want to force myself to finish it. I cleared my head for a day and started think why is that. I liked fallout 3, I know it is not fallout 2 that I played more than 10 times. Ultra fans have to accept the fact that bethesda has rights and can do their own vision. Personally I played Wasteland 2 and enjoyed it because it was closer to f2. On the other hand I accepted Fallout 3 for what it is, I try to be open minded and liked a lot of it. Really ppl should treat this as spin-off the f2 and move on.
What made me to quit playing fallout 4?
I got bored with this Call of Duty game on rails. Most of quests are "go there and kill, or bring something back". This game lack of variety and bigger consequences of player actions. Sometimes I got impression there is no reason to even read/hear the conversation because I have only impact on order of interaction and not shaping my story. I understand that main plot has to be directed and I accept that. Actually main story is not as bad as ppl say and the development of it is quite varied. But when you create world of crafting where you manage resources for building settlements, armor, weapons or even just hunt for caps you make players to do side quests. That's good cause you think that it is your journey. The problem is that most of those quests are just go and kill, so on one hand you experience different places, enemies but in the root of the concept it is so repetitive. I got bored at some point. It is shame that so much time and money went to make this unique world, cities, ships, npc's and bethesda made everything behave the same. I experienced the same pattern of gameplay most of the time, of course in different unique places, but really does it make this game feel unique?

Still we should thank bethesda that as a package this game is big, I think lots of gamers will spend a lot of time with it. In fallout main plot is varied but the rest is like copy paste pattern. I had impression that Bethesda accepted that it should see this project in broad perspective. What are currently 2 most played games? Minecraft and Call of Duty. Sorry to say that but fallout looks like this kind of mix. It is not bad in terms of direction. Games have to evolve, crafting for me is ok, especially weapons and thank Bethesda you didn't make them to get damage o break. Cool that ammo does not weight anything. Shooting feels good, vats is also ok for me.
I remember on mission when I had to go to some plant to make it work properly again for some farm, I had to kill mutants but also interact with environment so it was varied enough to keep me interested. But later the same pattern is used to clear some place of ghouls or mutants etc. Millions spent for graphics, engine, programmers and really it is so hard to make some good scenarios for missions?

I am in point where I know I will buy next fallout game but also I suspect I will not be hayped that much for it, just because of curiosity and sentiment. This is actually bad for bethesda because decisions to target broader audience (cod, minecraft) will backfire in shrinking their audience. This could be a perfect game, there was so little effort to do that, just make mission more unique. Unfortunately someone decided to simplify everything and enjoy shooting.

Played the game for 10 hours, and I've got enough. The game unfortunately has suffered a serious dumb-down. What I hate most is that it could even be a decent game. Some of the changes aren't even really that bad. Sure the new leveling system might hurt a bit at first, but it's a good attempt to balance the incredibly broken skill system (I mean does anybody miss Survival, really?). Crafting system means instead of going to a vendor, you will scrap useless weapons of your enemies and modify your own. Radiation matters and it matters much. But well, that's it for the advantages of this game.

Main issue of this game? You go to the nearest location of your vault and hear shooting raiders. Not thinking much you go shooting them, a obvious quest-giver hero figure shows and thanks you because you had a choice to go away. Oh, really? My only real choice there was to start a mission or not start a mission. I couldn't shoot him in the face, I couldn't just tell them to run away with me to the sanctuary, since I wanted to make a pacifist run. No the only real choice I had was to mow down Raiders with a minigun in a power suit, or go away. I couldn't even make a choice about how my character would behave. It was mostly yes, no, question and sarcastic, which half of the time is playful, half is annoyed. Which brings us to another great issue: lack of character creation. Sure I could sculpt faces of both of them however I wanted, but it was still a person capable of having a family. No psychopaths, no antisocial nerds. Wonder how he got such a good wife with one point of charisma. Part of what makes Bethesda recipe games good is how we forget about main quest while exploring surroundings, each having it's own story. No such thing in Fallout 4. You will constantly remind everybody (and game will for you) that you have a son you don't care about to rescue. The settlement mechanic is slapped on the game and provides you no reason to use it. Do you really care about some unnamed settlers who provide no reason to fight for them, only demanding really useful and rare resources like military grade circuit board, for some radiated fruits?

Game isn't even immersive, does not make you care about what goes on the screen, only to push your armor to protect you against more damage. No illusion of autonomy, you either go a one specific way designers expect you to, or you don't go at all. It's worst sin is that unlike Skyrim, which had many similar problems, it's also unengaging of all things.

There are still a few bugs in the game, but you can easily get past them, I'd hate to sound like a broken record but the textures and animations are a little outdated compared to other games on the PS4.

Fallout 4 is simply amazing, especially for someone who has never played a fallout game, i was stunned at simply how much there is to do. Don't listen to the childish trolls who are giving this low scores just because they love to hate, try this out for yourself!

It lacks only one thing - Fallout. You will not feel the misery of a lonely wanderer on the radiated dessert, You will not enjoy complex world, solve puzzles and dive into post nuclear abyss, because there is no abyss at all.

Plastic dialogs, poor voice acting and system of interaction with other characters repels me from digging in. And the plot so weak that i think if maybe developers instead of wasting 15-30 on creating storyline give us more furniture to make our base even more comfy I would give this game better score.
Character seems not thrilled about loss of his wife, child and sleeping 200 years in ice cube, so how can I be? How come this game is called Fallout?

I have never played Fallout 1 and 2, but I do have poured over 300 hours in Fallout 3 and New Vegas and I absolutely love Fallout 4, even more so than FO3 and NV.

+Better graphics and realistic character models. Because these games are so huge, it is hard to make a game with good graphics, but this one succeeds. Sure, you don't get 60FPS on consoles but who cares?
+Gun mods. There's a feeling of satisfaction to evolve your guns and see your character grow with them.
+The Power armors. Iron Man MKI simulator; enough said.
+Followers make comments on what you do and they come in many colors and sizes.
+Bugs are very rare given the game has just released. In 25 hours, my pip-boy did not appear twice only.

    Cons:
-Not knowing exactly what you'll say, even if it is rare that you will be mad against what he said.

I adore exploring and uncovering the deep world Bethesda has lovingly crafted, and even making my own environments within that set piece in the form of settlements. The combat is leaps and bounds ahead of Fallout 3, the dialogue, though questionable, is in my opinion fantastic, with lip syncing being the only draw back.

So, in conclusion Fallout 4 is Fallout 3 on steroids with much improved mechanics and story that make for an amazing game, but still a Fallout game, so if Fallout 3 isn't your thing this will not be either.

Fallout 4 is incrediably immersive. Its the first time I find myself losing all day and all night in the building of settlements and running quests, the game is so large, the customization is insane. it needs a tutorial and needs to explain a TON of things, mechanic wise, like how to get your caps when you run a store, or how to use VATS, but I still would give it 9/10.

Its very polished, although seems like its missing content, to help a new player. But, if it did have a friendlier start, This game might have been the highest rated Metacritic game of all time. The few missing things, are noticed, and can be frustrating, if your building or having trouble learning the game.

It just means you will probably restart the game after investing 50 hours. The second time around is even better, since you know not to waste time building fences to run off an area...

While some critics are complaining about the simplified leveling system, pay them no attention. This game is about much, much more. The inclusion of settlement building is massive in scope, and worth the price alone. New systems have made great improvements to gameplay, and the combat is better than any previous Bethesda game. Cry that it's way to different then some cry it's changed and give it a 0 get out of here it's a great game that deserves no less than a 5 to start. Anyways what I think of the game so far
    Pros
+ long game play 60hours plus ( not like the order 1887 or 89 Ido t remember was to short )
+ huge area to explore and you can go into a lot more buildings than previous games
    + gun customization
+ gun game (control) it's smoother than all the past installments super smooth makes getting head shots more fun less. Clunky ( not sure why a lot of people are complaining about it being like call of duty it is a super smooth fun combat ) not sure why your mad guess you liked it when it controlled all **** idk
+ good graphics ( not blood borne)
+ great story makes you want to know what's going to happen next
+ building your own home/ city pretty cool not my thing but a cool add on I will spend some more time with this feature later for now I want to explore the wasteland but a cool addition
+ it's fall out 4 fun to play and talk about with friends and blogs on line more lore in the fallout universe love it hope the story teller makes some more u tube shows for it.
    Negs
    - has some glitches but lol Bethesda need I say more
    - load screens between areas without anything at least give us something to read or move around the screen
    - dialogue Wheel it's really bad and not many options yes/no/ good bye and sarcasm this is the worse part of the game not sure it can be fixed should of spent more time on it guys

    - all the haters saying it's like COD , it's like GTA, it's like blah blah it's like FO4 if you ask me I hope one day some developer will take all the good qualitys of all games and make one awesome **** game Just cause 3 ? Maybe nah but one day they should do that make a game with the controls of gran Turismo for cars ace combat for planes mortal Kombat for fighting All the EA sports games for any sports in the game You get the idea that would be epic I give the game a solid 8/10 but put my score at a 10 to level out all the negative reviews 0 is for a game that is unplayable 1-4 is for games that are really messed up and lack content and glitch out a lot 5 is ok if you just don't like a game that is well put together with love but you just don't agree with where the developer went with it not 0 haters and that's the Truth my nigs I will always give a honest review trust907 and buy fallout of your a fan of open world games and if you like science-fiction Postapocalypse Style I'm gonna go back to the comic book store to kill those **** zombies and learn about the movie they were filming blast some rad roaches have fun in the wasteland

Here are the problems I have with this game in the first hour:

It takes about 30 minutes before you even start playing the game, the movie sequence takes ages. And then it takes another 30 minutes of boring gameplay before you get in your suit.

Once you actually get in the suit (which is an awesome moment btw) you have to repair it all the time. This is a grind and gets old quickly.

The graphics are nowhere near as good as say Witcher 3 and loading times are so slow (have no idea why could be my rig but other modern games load so much faster)

The insects and monsters that attack you when you walk around feel like they were coded 20 years ago. Their graphics are terrible and they move around like blocks of wood on string!

You get loads of guns but hardly any ammo. You have to search and go on missions to stock up, another boring grind.

The inventory systems takes ages to learn and feels like you are studying for an exam. It is over complicated and confusing.

I am having fun but I don't know if I have the energy or this to carry on playing.

    Dialog system:
While the voice acting of the average character is improved (mainly because there's more than 5 actors now), it goes to waste on lifeless personalities that have no depth to them - their just so unremarkable compared to the cast of previous fallouts. The voice actors that play our protagonist is quite good, but a bit one note. The real killer is the 4 option dialogue system, it's not just horrendous 'cause its "bastardised" compared to previous titles but to me it destroys any sought of role-playing; the speech checks in NV gave a distinction between characters, a player who role-played as a low intelligence character would be somewhat different then a character who has more intelligence and vice versa, unfortunately Fallout 4 removes that entirely and the dialogue consist of (a) one demented response, (b) the "lets skip this conversation already" or simply yes, (c) asking questions, or (d) the "i'm not sure yet" response. To me option "C" is the worst offender, its just a lazy way of expending lore; remember, Bethesda, showing me rather than telling me is always better since it doesn't interrupt game time at all.
    Combat:
I don't have much to say on the fundamentals of combat, but after playing the masterful combat that was MGSV, it feels extremely basic. Stealth is as "unrepaired" as it has always been, but even worst here, since you need a to perk to muffle your footsteps to be competitive when using melee. The "gung ho" approach that was always punished in previous games is the easiest and least risky way to complete each mission, while keeping constant covertness is just too difficult on harder difficulties. While the enemies do give challenge to the game, their AI is just if not worst than previous fallouts. The game has automated spotlights that try to detect threats but their so useless that they might as well not be their; when the AI hears commotion, instead of searching they move away from the commotion (how'd that get pass testing?); no matter how many times you're detected by the enemies, once you lose your state of caution they completely forget that you existed, they should at least add more guards after this confrontation (this is the same in previous games, but this 2015 not 2008, we have higher expectations); the melee is just awful, in NV most weapons had a unique animation when preforming a running attack, in Fo4... well, I hope you like the seeing the same clunky animation play repetitively; overall the melee and unarmed weapons are nothing compared to the plethora of NV's arsenal, nothing will beat smashing a guys head in with a nine iron (I'm not sure if that's in Fo4). I'm could go on and on but I beating a dead horse here.

    Other stuff:
*Unique weapons have the same model as their standard counterpart (don't quote me on that).
*The beginning of the game is so disjointed that it nearly killed it for me, like I have no other leads other than a drug addicts visions to go Diamond City? In NV, you already knew where to go, that city in the distance (show don't tell, remember Bethesda?).

In conclusion, I've enjoyed myself but it could be so much better. I have yet to complete the main story, but so far the side activities are clustered but fun

The story is not really interesting neither but that didn't catch me as a surprise to be honest (Haven't finished it yet though, I have played it like 24 hours or so). The problem is that not only I have to deal with the mostly dumb dialogues this game offers, I also have to suffer the worst voice acting I have heard on a huge triple A game. Spanish voice actors I mean, don't know how the English voice acting is for the game, but I wish I could, because guess what, I CAN'T CHANGE THE F***ING LANGUAGE OF THE GAME!! WHYYY!!!

And the decisions you make on the game are:
    Option 1: YES
    Option 2: NO
^ That's exactly the kind of decisions you are going to find on this game. Awesome right?...

It took me quite some time to get used to the controls of the game because they are not what you would consider good...

I'm not going to play the game right now any longer, I'm going to wait for some patches because the game needs them. So right now I give the game a 4, when they release some patches maybe it will go up to a 6 or even more. I hope so...

So this is not a review since I haven't finished it yet, just my impressions.

Here's just a few of the details that ticked me off:

No room for strategy in fighting any more - it's all reaction-based trigger pulling

Characterisation is incredibly shallow now, dialogue is badly written and shallow, and there are very few actual choices you can make now.

You can't 'detect life' any more making play as a long-range sniper or at night pretty much useless.

They swore blind the FIV map was larger than F3 and FNV - this is a plain lie. The landscape is much smaller.

The crafting system, so vaunted, is not actually very sophisticated, it's just time-consuming and laborious. The 'settlement building' game is a frustrating and fiddly time sink.

...Oh, and I thought the Skyrim PS3 port to PC was a bad joke on PC users but the FIV port to PC is much, much worse.

    Very annoyed with this game.

Will definitely be game of the year! Can't believe all these haters. Dumb complaints they list don't deserve such low scores for such a great game! If you liked previous Fallout games you will like this one.

A quick summary for any of you page scrollers: If you're a fan of fallout (particularly NV), you're going to be majorly disappointed. If you're someone whos a big RPG fan, you're going to be disappointed. If you're neither of those you might have a good time with the game but if you do i strongly advise you whip out the last gen systems and play FO3/NV (Especially NV).

The criticisms on this site of Fallout 4 are so stupid I suspect they are all from competing game companies and not real. The Fallout series has always been amazing. If you didn't like 3, you won't like 4. To me this is the game of the year just like 3 was. Almost perfect. Not even worth mentioning small complaints. SIMPLY THE BEST GAME EVER MADE!

Fallout 4 is the paradox game . This game has been terrible graphis and worst animation , at the same time offering amazing atmospheric and postapocalyptic world ..Fallout 4 is not the game of the year( the Witcher 3 the best of 2015 years ),not better than fallout 1 and 2. Game is very addictive ,and It has very complex possibilities.

Amidst the extremely polarized reviews, I'm still not entirely sure where I stand. I had registered this account a couple of days ago simply to give the game a scathing review, much like a lot of other people have. The first hour of the game left me craving Fallout 3, but the more time I've invested into the game, the more it's grown on me. The last 5 hours I've spent in-game convinced me to change my review and increase my rating.

    Graphics/Environment
    Pros:
    - good variety in landscape
    - variable (and sudden) changes in weather patterns are an AWESOME addition
    - graphics have been improved to some degree
    Cons:
    - pretty much all of the same issues as previous Fallout/Elder Scrolls titles (character animations, dialogue face/lip synching, etc)
    - graphics haven't improved that much
    - graphics look "plastic"
    - seems to lack the dark, dirty, grungy, gritty feel that I've grown to expect from Fallout titles

    Player Character/Backstory
    Pros:
    - pre-voiced names ("Ah, Mr. Slaughter!")
    - facial scars are cool
    Cons:
    - new customization system is tedious - makes me miss the old slide-bars
    - not enough variety (hairstyles, colors, etc)
    - definitive back story and only one preset voice - really breaks immersion for me
    - You aren't making a character, you're just repainting the stock car Bethesda wants you to drive.

    RPG Elements
Where to start? Well, let's sum it up in one word: "Streamlining"
    Pros:
    -
    Cons:
    - Skills/traits have been completely scrapped in favor of a simplified ("streamlined") perk tree
    - Impact of S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes has essentially been reduced to unlocking perks further down the tree
    - Entirety of character development is perk choices, so leveling up does not feel nearly as rewarding (compared to assigning skills points to increase character competency and selecting a perk to add variety)

As a stand-alone Adventure FPS, I don't hate the skill tree. I don't hate the leveling system.
As a Fallout title, it infuriates me.
It doesn't feel like an RPG because it isn't an RPG.

    Gameplay
    Pros:
    - combat has been vastly improved
    - sprinting has finally been implemented
    - gunplay outside of V.A.T.S. is extremely fun (this coming from someone that almost exclusively used V.A.T.S. in previous titles)
    - D-pad favorites menu is much improved
    Cons:
    - I hate the new V.A.T.S. - overpowered or not, they should have left it as it was

    Dialogue Wheel
It's bad. It's bad and they should feel bad. The options are bland and uninspired. In every conversation, you get the same four options: Yes, No, Sarcasm, Huh?. Occasionally there will be a speech check thrown in, but the goal and endgame might not always be what they seem. I'm rarely invested enough to care to try, though (or to try to care). I'm usually just trying to get through the conversation as quickly as possible so I can go back to shooting things. Conversations are dangerous territory for me because the longer I'm stuck spinning the dialogue wheel, the more I'm thinking about shooting the person I'm talking to. Conversations lack depth. Characters lack depth. There's no wit, no dark humor. Everyone is dull and boring, haphazardly thrown in to populate the wasting wasteland. I don't really find myself caring about anyone until they're staring down the barrel of my 10mm hand-cannon.
People also praise the "open" dialogue (you are not locked into the conversation), but I find it ruins a lot of the immersion for me and makes the conversations seem even more shallow.

    Crafting
I didn't think I'd like it nearly as much as I do. I spent 8 straight hours last night just scrapping and building up my settlement. I just couldn't stop.I kept trying to break away and work on quests, but something always manages to pull me back in. It's addicting and it's fun. In my opinion, it's one of the biggest redeeming aspects of the game. I love modding my weapons (my 10mm is GODLIKE), I love modding my armor, and I love settlement building. But it's a double-edged sword, because it's fueled by one of the worst aspects of the game: looting Looting "Hey, remember all of that useless crap we left all over the wasteland? Now it's useful! Isn't that awesome?" No. No it's not. First off, it takes all of the fun out of looting. Not only did they over-simplify it by allowing you to pull items from containers without opening them (eliminating a certain level of immersion), they also removed the need to consciously LOOT. You used to have to comb through the crap for the few trinkets worth taking. Now that everything's useful, there's no point in being picky. Take it all until your inventory is full, dump it, then go again. If it's not bolted down, it's going with you. It's not an art form anymore. Adhesive [expletive deleted] Verdict Is it an enjoyable game? Definitely. Is it Fallout? Not really. It's an excellent post-apoc shooter (with more depth than a standard FPS), but a horrible Fallout installment. Take that for what it is

The game excels at allowing you to explore and collect and settlement creation is usually awesome.

    But here are my gripes:

    - TERRIBLE voice acting and facial animations. It's so bad that it takes you right out of the game.

    - Menus and UI need a lot more polish, as comparing weapons and armor and crafting mods is extremely cumbersome.

    - Load screens for entering buildings have been done away with for years in other games. Why is it so prevalent, even for tiny spaces in some cases?

    - settlements are great but it's a bummer that existing structures can't be modified or improved within them. The mechanics and opaque UI detract significantly from my experience.

    - so many mechanics, so few explanations. I've never had to google how to do things in a game as much as I have this one (running wires, comparing stats, settlers, etc.)

I'd still recommend the game though, issues notwithstanding.

The user reviews for this game are very misleading. I would give it a 9 but to balance the stupid 0 scored ill give it 10.
So why is it a 9?
    - Good costumization system
    - Great combat
    - A great open world
    - Great story
    - Good perk system
The only problem is the bugs which isnt that big of a deal

It meets all realistic expectations for a Western RPG.

Cons: Western RPG. It really shouldn't be a con, but needs to be addressed from the negative reviews. If you are a fan of the old Fallout prior to 3, and you saw 3 as some sin against isometric RPG's then this is more of that. It's not like they've said otherwise so it shouldn't be a surprise, and a single trailer informs you of

It's not like they've said otherwise so it shouldn't be a surprise, and a single trailer informs you of that quickly.

PC is a bit buggy. Shouldn't be an issue since this is a PS4 review, but a number of the negative reviews are focused on PC issues.

XBox One has a noticeable stutter. Again not an issue for the PS4 version. However the PS4 has an odd slowdown when a lot of particle effects load. This maybe the main difference between the GDDR on the PS4 vs the DDR on the XBox One. GDDR has a higher bandwidth, but higher latency making it so it doesn't hit this stutter hickups probably due to texture loads, but makes it so an odd slowdown a large sample of small effects which the lower latency DDR has not issue with.

There is a game bug caused by Updating the Game, but NOT Updating the PS4. Then if you turn off Auto Save, and only use Quick Save then you could find your self Stuck in an Elevator with Vanna White. This appears to be more of a user error than anything.

    Pros:
Load times appear to be really good starting off. Since this is an open world it will probably continue to creep up over time as the world gets more and more complicated, but with quite a bit of play it hasn't become too much longer than it started off so that's a plus.

Autosave, and Quick Save do not hurt the game. It's odd to bring up, but Auto Save in the PS3 Era frequently crashed games, or caused noticeable pauses. I've had no such issue, and that's a plus.

The crafting System is a big plus, and settlement building is a big plus for me. it also lets me address the big issue of how is there so much scrap lying around after 200 years. The big cities should have already plundered most of the dead cars, but if they're not I will.

Broom collecting is no longer a complete waist of time. Since everything you pick up can be turned into scrap.

The shooting outside of VATS is improved to the point of workable. In the past the shooting was so cluncky that it was mostly pointless to shoot outside of VATS. Two shots in VATS could be a full clip out of it. It's still better to use VATS, but it no longer feels pointless.

The story is well done, but it may appeal more to adults with kids then it would with young adults who have no concept of parenthood.

    Room for Improvement:

All ingredients need a way of being instantly cached away in the workbench. There need to be a way to bulk scrap some of the needless weapons, and armor. There should also be a delineation between junk that is always junk, and junk that has uses other than junk.

So why only 8 out of ten? Because of the bugs and glitches. To be fair i haven't encountered that many myself, but considering how long bethesda said they were working on the game, and the fact that they claimed it was gold (ready to be shipped) almost a month before its release date, there is absolutely no excuse for some of the bugs and the fact that there was a day one patch for the game. I love bethesda but that is unacceptable in my eyes. Still that being said there is no doubt in my mind that this a sure win for game of the year.

I only use one method to judge a game. It has never failed me. I ask myself two questions.

    1. Do I stay up too late playing the game? 2. Did I want to call work and say I was sick to stay home and play the game? If the answer is yes to both then it is a success. I don't really fancy rating systems so I'll give it a 10. I don't see how people are disappointed in the graphics.

I don't see how people are disappointed in the graphics. I don't compare Fallout games to other games, I just compare them to their predecessors. The graphics are much better then previous versions. The character creation had far more options and I was happy with the way my toon turned out. As a gamer who's first "console" was an Atari 800, minor bugs, fps, that kind of stuff doesn't factor in when I judge a game.

Basically if you liked Fallout and spent hundreds of hours on the previous versions then buy this game, it's definitely worth the purchase even if it doesn't add much of anything new. For me a new place to play in the Wastelands was worth the 80.00.

I myself am not bothered by either. My favorite things about Fallout have always been the exploring and the fights which are fantastic.

One of the biggest additions to the game that I happen to love is the crafting system. It may not be for everyone and that's ok since you don't have to partake in it if you don't want to. I enjoy it and find myself spending hours working on my settlement instead of following a mission. So amazing how this can be like a game within the game.

The weapons are pretty awesome and the ability to craft this is great. I love how you can pick your favorite weapon and really focus on it. You can put points towards perks to increase you ability using it and you can craft the weapon into something very strong. you can even name the weapon if you like.

I've noticed that Fallout 4 is a little more challenging than Fallout 3. Enemies seem to be smarter and can really overwhelm you. I find myself sneaking around a lot more and trying to pick enemies off one at a times. Going in guns blazing may not always be the best strategy but if you want to you can.

Overall I think Fallout 4 is fantastic. It doesn't take much to be caught up in the game for over 3 hours without even realizing it. I can't give it a perfect score since it is not perfect and it does not deserve it. I do believe it deserves a 9 rating though. Most of the bugs and quirks are not enough to actually take away from the game. Some may be a little annoying but everything else in the game makes up for it. I highly recommend this game.

War never changes as they say and at it's core Fallout 4 is the same as Fallout 3 and New Vegas. But just as NV brought new ideas to the playstyle and left others behind, so Fallout 4 has followed suit. A lot of the critical issues being raised seem to span from personal preference rather than actual broken or badly executed game ideas. For example I was always slightly disappointed thatWar never changes as they say and at it's core Fallout 4 is the same as Fallout 3 and New Vegas. But just as NV brought new ideas to the playstyle and left others behind, so Fallout 4 has followed suit. A lot of the critical issues being raised seem to span from personal preference rather than actual broken or badly executed game ideas. For example I was always slightly disappointed that in 3 and especially NV you could anally your dialogue options first before choosing and so you often had a way to get around conversation issues or even back out and come back at a later date. Now with the new dialogue system not only can you concentrate more on what is being said (rather read) and what you can see but conversations can become much more fluid and I feel it gives much more replay value. Often in the previous games I quick flipped through dialog as I felt there was no need to engage or listen to it instead speed reading the choices and choosing the best written one to get my goal. I haven't yet felt that the choices put before me lead me along the wrong conversation path.
In this day and age of super-uber graphics it is easy to get hung up on the looks of the game. For me it looks nice but I am lucky in that I can run it on Ultra settings without any problems. I can also understand a Bethesdas choice of creating a level cross platform playing field - the same game on any system and hopefully this will pay great dividends when official modding comes along if this can also be cross platform. BUT it is my opinion that by doing this they have hamstringed PC users and I do not think this was the right way to go. If you have spent your hard earned money on powerful graphic cards you want to make the most of them and Bethesda has instead forced the majority of the work onto the CPU which has caused significant issues for PC games who in truth don't have machines that are that old, but still are having issues running the game smoothly.
Having controller support out of the box is a boon, but the fact that some keyboard controls are hardwired is just lazy of the developer, there is no excuse for it and this needs to be patched soon.
Crafting and building is very nice and much more intuitive and fun than the modding system in New Vegas. The staged piece armor is also nice, but anyone who has played mod in Fallout 3 or NV will know this has been in the engine for over 7 years. It shows how good the game engine was back then and it is nice that they finally get a chance to show off its bells and whistles, but I still think it could have been improved more. Plasticine looking ears and trousers that don't look wet when you walk through water are things that have been achieved in previous games that are now 2 years old. Also some of the textures look low quality and as a result the game lacks graphical polish. While we can accept that time and resources are an issue, did they really have to spend time putting in multiple kitten pictures to hang on your wall when this could have been spent improving some key textures? I for one would have been more than happy to wait for a small DLC that covered furniture.
Some people have complained about getting Dogmeat, Codsworth and the Power Armor too early, but no one really forced you to use them and also for those who know the franchise, so many people on the older games went straight for these items/companions so now they are much easier to get to form the start, which is just the developer responding to player choice. The bottom line is that its a Fallout game, with masses of things to explore and do, and a massive focus on the story. But it lacks the polish that should have been possible in the last 7 years, and so I can only give it 8 out of 10.

    - Every second you are not playing it, you want to play it.
    Cons:
    - has the gameplay of Skyrim (but if you liked Skyrim, like me, it has other similar characteristics)

This game is bound to get a range of mixed reviews, that's the problem with mass marketing a game to the world, when only a select few will truly enjoy the game. People will question the graphics, honestly it’s nit-picky, and anything to question would be the gameplay. After playing DS2 & Bloodborne (second to none gameplay), every attack in Fallout 4 feels like going back to the painful swinging of a 2 handed sword in Skyrim, eventually getting yourself stuck in a corner, with no agility to get out (especially if the dogs in the way).

Nevertheless this game does what many can't, it entices you. The game constantly pulls you in different directions, which in turn stops it from becoming a chore, and turns it into an adventure. Every time I set myself a marker to get to, I’d get side-tracked by spotting something ominous in the distance, or even a cry for help via the radio. Once you feel satisfied after doing a section of the main quest line, you can fall-back to upgrading your settlement & tinkering with your weapons & armour.

Before you buy this game, you have to question two things: (1) Do you want a game that offers immense gameplay, if so, don't buy this game. (2) Do you want a game that offers no boundaries, and gives you a mix of Skyrim's immense scope, FarCry 3's adrenaline, Bioshock's eeriness & partially, the Sims homeliness (in a post-apocalyptic setting, which is hard to do mind) - then this is the game for you.

Alright. This game. This is the game that caused me to make a metacritic account. This is also the game that is making me break my personal rule about ranting on the internet.

Lets start with the good shall we?
    - Fully Voiced Protagonist. I actually like this one, it upsets me a little because it limits modders, but for the most part having a fully voiced protagonist is pretty rad. I just wish Ron Perlman had done it all.
-Walking away from conversations. Bethesda get a gold star for this.
-Crafting, it serves a purpose, and it has lead me to some pretty entertaining self-made scavenger hunts.
-Gunplay. It's a lot better than it used to be. Still not quite at the level of other games, but it's fun and continues to be fun. Can't ask for more than that. Weapon sounds do kinda suck though, combat lack impact because of this.
-VATS. It's fun, it's useful to have, it isn't overpowered. This is a big improvement, I wouldn't change VATS at all, even the critical meter is good, it adds tension, I save it up for bosses, and then build it back up by shooting their minions while dodging said bosses. It's good.
-Settlement Building. It's fun, i'm going to mention it again on the bad side, but hell, at least it's there, and reasonably good.
-Companions. They are now actually likeable, even loveable. I swear these looks and personalities came out of a waifu generator. Good job.
-Pretty graphics. I'm not in the crowd of people that desires ultimate fidelity everything. I like the graphics, they fit well with the world.
-Power armour. Going to mention this on the bad side too, it feels powerful, the upgrading is awesome.

There are other good things about this game, but I'm getting mindful of the letter limit.

The bad things it is then.
-No skills. I can't imagine how this decision got made. Agonising over skillpoints and character builds is a Fallout staple. Heck, it's an RPG staple.
-Perk Variety. There aren't enough of these. The multiple ranks thing is good, the SPECIAL requirements are good. There just need to be more.
-Upgrading SPECIAL. This is wrong, it stops me from agonising over character builds. SPECIAL upgrades need to be bobblehead, or one time perk only.
-No level cap. This magnifies all the problems with no skills, perk variety and SPECIAL upgrades. It is impossible to care about character builds when any character can level up to be an everyman, expert at everything. It also hurts replayability, I have so many characters in other Fallout games. With good reason.
-AI. It's still Bethesda, the AI is still dumb. I was expecting this, and to be honest I'm not that mad about it. Enemies still either shoot from cover, or run straight at you. Pathfinding in an open world game is still hard to do, and therefore still sucks. Companions still get in the way all the time. I'm not asking for the world here, just some variety in enemy strategies. Read a basic text on squad level combat strategy, then implement some basic manoeuvres.
-Variety. Yep, variety as a whole. It's a colourful game now, but still too brown. I'm not finding the weird weirdness that I expect from a fallout game.
-Legendary Enemies. I don't like this, I don't like this at all, especially when it suddenly applies to nuisance enemies, like dogs. Named enemies with their own little forts and dungeons are the way to go.
-Settlement building. The UI is awful. The size limit is massively disappointing, it is very poorly tutorialised.
-Fusion Cores. They drain too quickly, even with perks. I like to play these games without fast travel, with these fusion cores, I'm forced to choose between playing the game the way I want to, or Power Armour. I like that they exist, I just wish they lasted like, a lot longer. Ingame days, when you consider their current rarity.I think the better way would be to power the armour off of MF cells, 10 MF cells for one current size length of time. Need to playtest that when I get my PC.
-Too much killing. Every quest in this game seems to be about killing things, either for it's own sake, or as an obstacle to fetching something. We need more variety than this, perhaps even a different approach. Like talking. Give diplomacy a chance.
-Conversation wheel. This does not work, it has never worked in any game that wasn't Mass Effect. Every time my character says something I didn't intend, I hate him more. That's not what should be happening here.
-Challenge. The only challenge is to be found in fighting, where are the epic non-quested scavenger hunts, cerebral puzzles, and other interesting pursuits that add flavour to a fallout game. I want to spent hours researching the location of a technical macguffin, working it all out myself, and going to get it.

If it wasn't a Fallout game, I'd give this thing a nice solid 7, but it is a Fallout game. That's a big responsibility. Mods will fix it on PC.

Anyway. The game is amazing, I've been playing for a good 20-30 hours, there is sooo much to do, i'm literally avoiding the main story missions as much as possible. The game is gorgeous, I don't know what people are complaining about. There's so much story to every little area you come across, you just have to look hard enough, check out the computers and listen to the tapes, etc.. every area has a story behind it. Night time is seriously creepy, especially if you have headphones, you can hear footsteps and random noises.. you're just waiting for that moment when a ghoul rushes at you out of the darkness, and scares the **** out of you. You truly feel like you're in the game itself. The game gives off that "You're truly alone" feel, pure awesomeness.

I am meh with the getting the companion and power armor so early on. The game is buggy but it's easily ignored, nothing to worry about.

If you can see past that and learn how to mix live combat with VATS then you have the best open world game yet. This is bigger and more handsome than any other Bethesda game, even Skyrim. You simple can not go to bed or not go to that building, because what if there is a unique weapon in there?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Overall I am somewhat disappointed in this game. There are many glaringly blatant issues that prevent it from being what they claim it is. First off the new conversation system is dumb. In every conversation you are given the same 4 options, yes, no, I dont know, or f--- you. Thats not choosing my destiny thats the same 4 cruddy choices over and over again. This really is a problem in the main story because no matter what you choose the game wont pick what side you are on until a big pop up box opens up and says "if you go here you will be against so and so" so the dialogue you chose has no importance whatsoever on the game outcome. Furthermore the story is BAD. It copies many elements directly from the old games. They jammed in liberty prime randomly to make a connection to fallout 3. The also randomly jammed in Dr Madison Li from fallout 3 and your character randomly starts asking about her and the brother hood oh steel guy knows your interested in her for some reason when you should not know her at all. Another problem with the story is the main saying "war never changes". After hearing it 50 times it gets really old. You cant start every game with it and end every game with it. It doesn't fit. At the end of the game there is no war so its randomly jammed in. In general the story and characters have no depth. As other people say the FPS dips under 30 at many points and the graphics are about the fallout 3-new vegas level. Also as many people have said there are MANY game breaking bugs. Some of them break the main story. One example is if your sided with the brotherhood and kill your son and all the people in the institute. Then not only is the institute still alive even if you kill all the people, but then when you teleport back the quest line picks up with the minutemen for no reason. Also there are even spelling issues in the dialogue, randomly floating objects, the fact you cant speak to 95% of people in the game like you used to be able to(they just say a generic statement and walk away). The fact that I have beaten the main campaign and there is only 1 real town compared to NV and FO3 that had plenty of settlements. The fact there is really only 1 radio station with a announcer that sucks. The fact that there are only like 10 radio songs and like 7 of them are from the old games. The fact the companions are awful and always get in the way(especially the dog in the beginning). The fact that you get power armor from day 1 and its not treated as a normal item so you always have to get in and out of power armor to do anything. This game overall feels rushed, lacking, and not improved upon. The new VATS system is pure junk. Third person is bad in normal use, but since the new weapon sighs are so bad I find myself switching to third person in combat just to get the dot in the center of the screen to aim at so I can see what I am shooting(never used to be a problem). They directly took the fallout 3 give the people water scenario and turned it into give us power instead. 90% of the story is very predictable, and there are many important topics that never get addressed again. For one thing everyone complains how the institute takes people, kills people, and replaces them with synths. Then you get into the institute and they are peaceful and it is never mentioned again. The three main factions that duke it out (brotherhood railroad and institute) all have very short cited goals that are BAD. You either pick to go with the railroad who wants to kill the brotherhood of steel and the institute because they want to save ALL synths above peoples live (STUPID), the brotherhood of steel who wants to kill ALL synths an they want to kill the railroad and institute just because they dont trust anyone (STUPID), or the institute who want to kill the others just because they could be threatened (STUPID). Another problem is how the SPECIAL system is different and they dont tell you it changed before they make you stick with it. I put all my points into intelligence thinking I was going to be able to raise my skills fast like in the old games. Big mistake. Furthermore the new settlement crafting system is pure JUNK also. Its like minecraft randomly jammed into fallout. It doesn't fit and the game engine doesn't seem designed for it. The main story easily breaks because of it. In one part of the main story when you have to construct the teleporter using the crafting system if you dont have everything lined up right you cant continue the story. Plus the game literally has to make you build all the stuff on the same electrical grid in a weird way BECAUSE BETHESDA DIDN'T FIX THE BUGS. They literally have a charactuer that says "build all the stuff on the same power grid becuase we didn't know how to code this part into the game right" well thats pretty much what they said :P . Overall dissapointing but it still did offer many hours of fun. I hope bethesda gives me my moneys worth from the season pass. bug fix to come? Expand

Okay not only are the graphics FINE, but that shouldn't effect your opinion of the game!!! Now I have issues with the game for sure: I agree with many of you that the world does feel a bit empty, quite a few gameplay mechanics feel rehashed from Fallout 3, the dialogue system is... let's be honest here the dialogue system is by far the worst out of any Bethesda game at least the one's I've played (Arena, Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim all have better dialogue systems) and from what I've played of it the story will not be the reason I stick around. Yes all of these are issues, and yes the game is fairly glitchy, but not NEARLY as glitchy as many games I have played this early on in release, I have encountered no game-breaking glitches and any glitches I've encountered have been second long missing textures (in fact I've only found one of those) and some lag issues that again only last a second or two however lag happens pretty often. However the good things heavily outweigh the bad things in the game. First of all: FREAKING CRAFTING! A genuinely good crafting system in a AAA open-world sandbox game. Weapon customization which from what I've seen works very well, absolute base building (as in walls and defenses) interesting creatures, VERY much improved combat, and I wasn't gonna include NV in this review as it is not from BGS themselves, but it is a FAR better combat system that we've seen in both 3 and NV and the best combat I've seen in a Bethesda game. The cinematic moments are done very well and feel a lot more satisfying than in 3, NV, and Skyrim, power armor works VERY well, but is a little annoying how quickly the power runs out luckily you can still use it, but it's... kinda pointless to as it slows to a near halt and disables bashing and sprinting. Though the world feels a bit empty (so far, I've only seen less than a quarter of the map and haven't actually taken the time to get a good look at it) it is VERY well crafted and designed feeling real with all the hills, holes, lakes, rivers, trees, etc. The missions in my opinion are very fun and challenging there's SO MANY weapons, the companion system works very well, and all in all it really is a fantastic game. I'll admit (as a huge fanboy of Bethesda) I was hoping for a 10/10, so I am fairly disappointed in the game so far, but that's really just considering what I thought it would end up being. Though I would prefer Skyrim, Fallout 3, or Oblivion this game still stands out amongst most games I've played on next-gen. I think it was worth the money so far and I'm excited to see what else it has to offer! Expand

Personally, I found this game amazing. Currently have around 30 hours since release day on November 10th, and I can't be more satisfied. Game continues the motif that war never changes in a good way.

The vast majority of complaints I see here are about graphics, or the dialogue system, or how it is a step backward for the Fallout series, or even performance or bugs. I actually believe this game to be beyond beautiful in terms of substance and graphics.
-The graphics themselves are fine, with good quality textures and a nice theme. I think people like to say the graphics are bad because they see a lot of gray, but in reality that is just a feature that defines the wasteland. For those that feel that the graphics are previous gen, go back and look at Skyrim's and then reassess your life. Besides, if you're playing a game for the graphics, you aren't playing the game for the right reason.
-The dialogue system has at times been annoying, but any complaints I have with it or trivial. For the most part it does its job just as well as the old system Bethesda used in the old Fallout's and Skyrim.
-As for performance related issues and bugs, I don't see where all the hate is coming from. My experience has been great, with my game maintaining a consistent 30 fps in the most intense fire fights. I have noticed minor split second freezes after returning to the Commonwealth from a building or some odd, but never from just wandering the wasteland. From what I've read up on, updating your PS4 system could potentially help with this, or it could be a problem more rooted in the specific model of PS4 you own. As far as bugs go, honestly what did you expect? It's a Bethesda game and it's so massive that its bound to have kinks in it's pipes. Bethesda will have these fixed in no time. (I should note that most of the bugs I have encountered have been small graphical glitches; nothing gamebreaking)

To wrap this up, I would like to mention some things that I found exceptional. Particularly, the atmosphere of the wasteland and how amazing it is. I won't elaborate on it too much as I would encourage you to try it for yourself while just walking around in game, but I can say it does a great job. Finally, the other thing, is that the map size is every bit as big as other titles, such as Skyrim. It may not look large, but it is, and it has every bit as much detail put into it as Skyrim, if not more.

Conclusion: Amazing game. Would recommend to anyone who is willing to sit down and take in a story that requires more than the memory of some less creature to understand.
Result: Proud retainer of said game and will spend many, many, many more hours in it.

0 for vla score is a troll score. I give this a 10 just to counter the trolling. Realisticly its a 7.5. Great immersion , looks really nice , gunplay is a huge step up from previous entries. If you want an adventure that has no hand holding then you will love this game. Worth the wait, played 14 hours and will put hundreds more in.

I really don't understand why this game is getting so much hate. Fallout 4 is, by far, the best Fallout! Bethesda is one of the best at making open-world games and this shows in this post-apocalyptic world. So many mechanics have been changed for the better that really make this game amazing and I want to tell you why I love this game.

Bethesda is one of the best at making open-world games and this shows in this post-apocalyptic world. So many mechanics have been changed for the better that really make this game amazing and I want to tell you why I love this game.

    Gameplay:
Before I say anything else about this game, I want to talk about the improved shooting mechanics because they make this game amazing! I found it really hard to get immersed into older Fallout games because the only way to hit you're target was with VATS! I find it astonishing that people are angry about this new addition. This was a problem that was holding back Fallout and I'm happy that it's finally been changed. Don't listen to the people saying that this makes Fallout less of an RPG because if anything, it takes a bold step in a direction that most RPG's haven't taken.

The dialogue system in Fallout 4 is nothing to write home about. You only get four options and most of them are pointless. I was really expecting more from Bethesda on this front as it was so heavily advertised. This is one of the only parts of the game I wished was like earlier Fallout's. I really wanted to be my own character and I didn't really feel that with the dialogue mechanics here. They in no way make the game less fun to play but they are quite a disappointment and Bethesda is capable of more.

Now my favourite part of the entire game, the base building. I can't even explain how many hours I've spent making my own bases. The only reason I take every mission I can is so I can loot everyones body and steal everything I find. Finding useless junk now is more of a reward than a hinderance! There is no lacking of features when creating your own home. I was able to create a four story home, complete with a windmill, defensive structures and even a mancave! There are some mechanics that need to be changed but they are not gamebraking. On the topic of customization, customizing power armour, weapons and armour is amazing. It's so deep and complex you will be amazed by it! You will probably spend lots of time debating what attachments to pick out of the big barrel of choices. To go even deeper into this, you can pick certain perks to have the ability to go deeper into customization. There is no lacking of customization here and I'm hoping to see this in every open world game.

    Perk System:
This should be in gameplay but the perk system needs it's own paragraph. I'll keep it short but just know that the perk system is better than almost any other RPG game I've played! It just feels right. You have the option between you're S.P.E.C.I.A.L perks (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, Luck) or other perks that unlock based on how many points you poured into each S.P.E.C.I.A.L category. When you pick a perk, it has a noticeable difference right away which makes the entire system very rewarding. In conclusion, it's an awesome system!

    Graphics:
While the graphics aren't Last of Us quality they are pretty good for such an expansive game. I don't understand why the game is getting so much flak for something that isn't a big deal. The game looks amazing though, not in it's graphics, but in everything from colour palette, the skybox and even the choice of how buildings and debris look. I now know why I found it so hard to enjoy other Fallout games and it's defiantly the graphics. Instead of being surrounded by grey and brown and having a brown sky, you instead have a beautiful blue sky when you emerge from the vault. It was defiantly a good choice and I hope it stays this way.

    Pros:
    Base Building
    Armour, Weapon, Power Armour Customization
    Gunplay Mechanics
    Aesthetic
    Perk System

    Cons:
    Dialogue Mechanic
    Graphics

    Conclusion:
There is no reason to not buy this game. This is the Fallout game we have all been waiting for. You will spend so much time delving into this expansive open world. Definitely Game of the Year material!

And the music is amazing! Search up "Fallout 4 Main Theme" on YouTube!

Everything was dumbed down from past Fallout games, hell, even Fallout 3 (which was pretty dumb) had better RPG elements. If you're a fan of the real Fallout games, you will hate this. If you are a fan of the RPG genre, you will despise this.
Not only the RPG elements were dumbed down, but a lot of the aspects of difficulty, like the lifespan of your weapons. Bethesda excels in taking the Fallout franchise, where Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 were considered some of the greatest, greatest RPG games ever made, and turn it into a generic shooter.

Then we start with the dumb stuff (no spoilers):
-Dialog wheel. Who the hell thought this was a good idea? The dialog wheel's only purpose is to kill the immersion with the character and also to dumb down your character's dialog.
-Voiced main character: Sucks because of the same reasons as dialog wheel. Zero immersion with your character. Imagine a voiced Gordon Freeman.
-Combat: Even though it is not bad at all to have shooting elements in a Fallout game, Fallout 4 forces those elements in. 20 minutes into the game and you get yourself involved in a scripted shooting mission, then you unlock the power armor, get back in the scripted scene with a scripted Deathclaw.
-Difficulty: You can change the difficulty at any given time (very stupid for any video game). Also power armor at 20 minutes into the game. Also immortal dogmeat.
-Writing: It is known by everyone that Bethesda sucks at writing a coherent story and or dialogs.
-Writing: Remember the multiple story lines, nonlinear main story and freedom of story flow, faction cooperation and all that sweet stuff from Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and New Vegas? Well, all that stuff is gone.
-More writing: Remember the gray moral system of New Vegas? Well, welcome back again to Fallout 3's black or white moral system.
-More writing (ending) (no spoilers): Bethesda can't come up with an original story, so they had to rip it off the original Fallout 3 Van Buuren. Only dumbing it down to choosing either A or B. Way to go guys.

Not to mention the frame rate drops and ugly graphics.

The game is just plain bad. Bethesda managed to ruin every single improvement Obsidian made on New Vegas. It's a shame honestly. The real fans can only hope that some day Bethesda green lights Obsidian to make another Fallout game. If that never happens, then we can agree that Fallout is dead.

And the answer to that question is a big fat yes. Fallout 4 delivers serves to deliver the same experience as fallout 3- and that is 100% fine.

COD delivers the same general game with a few updates yearly. Assassins creed, madden, GTA, Farcry, Halo, and all other major franchises do the same thing. They find a formula and they stick to it. Bethesda has simply done that with Fallout 4.

That being said the upgrades are nice. The combat is miles ahead of older entries, the base building is fun and unique, the world is a bit smaller but with much more to do, the weapons and armors are better than ever, the power armor is sick, the new core systems work well, and the end of weapon condition is great too. Besides those things it is the same Fallout we love and to all the complainers- go play COD.... It is where you belong.

Fallout 4 leans to the Shooting side of things. It strips down the gameplay from the actual RPG elements and offers a meta-nuclaer shooting gallery which of course keep its charm and gameplay wealth but also feels a little too friendly for the new comers. The Base builder mode is unnecessary, boring and irritating. Unfortunately, overall, there are no steps forward for this Nuclear Holocaust Behemoth of the video games industry. Only steps sideways.
