I have totally loved Fallout 4, and have spent hundreds of hours happily engrossed in poring over The Commonwealth and all its many challenges and pleasures. Having said that, I didn't love the DLC's quite as much and was pretty disappointed in several of them. Far Harbor is by far my favourite one. The environment is atmospheric and beautiful in a very dark, dank and gloomy sort of way. There's some terrific new story lines, particularly one involving one of my favourite NCPs from the main story, and quite a bit of new gear that's a great addition to my collection - including a nice set of distinct power armor and one of my top three favourite guns in the whole Fallout 4 world. Far Harbor is a BIG addition, and provides a lot more world to explore and more settlements to build if you're into that (which I am, in a big way!), so as I had a handful of thriving settlements here, even once I'd finished all the quests and story lines I was still travelling back and forth to maintain my settlements there, and it integrated well into my game ongoing. I have never had any problems with the frame rate or crashing that other people have mentioned. So if you've enjoyed the main body of Fallout 4 I would definitely recommend you foraying across the sea to explore Far Harbor. Expand

Far Harbor has a great atmosphere and a complex plot, also some new creatures which fit perfectly into the world of Far Harbor. The Island has some cool places to explore and is very big so the price of 25$ is justified.

Far Harbor brings a new range of emotions in to Fallout 4. The mystery of island, occult, a

Many steps in the right direction, quite similar to New Vegas in many ways. Many options to finish the missions and solve the conflict, as well as cool enemies and atmosphere, if FO4 would have has the same amount of options in the game, it would have been the best in the series. Why then an 8? Well - my MAIN disappointment in about the main game is that, once the quests are over, there are relatively little enemies and/or INTERESTING side missions to do, so all you can focus on is settlements - which are nice - but don't add much in terms of combining well with the rest of the game. So if you want to have many enemies to kill and get legendries, there are not too much, and once you get to level 80 or so, the remaining enemies can't really harm you much, even at very hard difficulty level. This persists in Far Harbor, the missions are great, the island is haunting, and the weapons and factions are nice, but once it's over, it's the same thing as the main game, a limited quantity of things to do, aside form settlements. If Bethesda had offered more enemies (in terms of numbers, and spawn locations) as well as more entertaining side missions (instead of go kill these raiders) - then I would have given it a 10. As it stands, FO3, with the expansions also had limited things to do, but the wasteland in that game felt more dangerous, and the enemies kept up with you - it seems having a level cap, paradoxically is a good thing, as it prevents you from getting too strong, while the perks are MUCH better. Overall, however, the factions in Far Harbor, the numerous ways to play this DLC, and the interesting storyline, especially with Valentine as a companion, is very, very good - I also was once of the relatively few group of people who enjoyed the puzzle quest - make this DLC, perhaps the single best DLC Bethesda has made for any Fallout, on par with F03's Broken Steel, maybe even better, because of the options that are allowed in game.. Shame that a certain lack of creativity prevents this DLC from getting a 10, as well as the main game, which was not the case in New Vegas, and to a lesser extent FO3. Worth a purchase, no doubt about it! Expand

I liked it, just it felt a bit short for my taste. Beutifull and scarry atmosphere.
Definitly adds to the story only thing I can say negative is I miss the enclave somehow. They are the most creepy faction in this universe and I hoped they would be here but there is nothing.

So... about 10hrs into Far Harbour.

    Firstly, what you get:

You get more settlement builds. Significantly the Barns - I assumed it would be a few default barns to place into settlements, but they've broken them down into walls / roofs etc ...and they're excellent. The roofs particularly go well with the vanilla wood builds. Everything else, and I do mean everything is pretty fishy. Fish buckets, fish signs, fish racks ... lots of fish related stuff, but some cool stuff amongst it.

To be honest, it's not what this DLC was promising compared to the workshop DLC...

SIZE matters. Er, sure does here. When I first landed on Far Harbour, I knew i had a handful of new locations and a new settlement waiting, i knew it was said to be large. It surpassed my expectations. I think it's just over a 5th of the size of the entire commonwealth, maybe about 22% or so is a good estimate. It's a little like the glowing sea as a lot of the area is baron. This sounds like it would be annoying, but it's actually well....just go there and see!!

I expected the 'fog' to be a cheap ploy to hide the distant buildings and make rendering easier, it's not. Graphically some of the best parts of FO4 are within Far Harbour. The spooky swirling, almost spirit like, sweeping the roads and lampposts make it incredibly atmospheric. Like "The Fog" horror film, but better, The new creatures are brilliantly animated, and add to the horror backdrop Far Harbour offers.

The new missions are much the same, a complete FO4 fan like myself was delighted by all the new characters, conflicts and dilemmas. It forced me into a corner with a few choices I'd not made in the commonwealth, but these were choices I'd been avoiding for a long while. (I've avoided completing the main quest in my 800+ hours gameplay - note at least 300-400 hours just building settlements, I'm hooked)

I've not really used most of the new weapons, I've got my 5 guns of preference i carry and store the rest, but they are much the same with new perks. Some of the new armour is pretty cool though and helpful for rads!

I hear another 3 DLCs are in the pipe-line + the MOD tool. For fans like me, this is such fantastic value for money for a season pass. £20 for Far Harbour as a standalone DLC, hmm... I'd pay £15 for it in a sale if I'd not got the season pass.

To summarise I say this is a great DLC pack, surpassing expectations and adding easily 20hrs + gameplay, if not a lot more pending on your style of play. The new map is huge. The enemies are sneaky and enjoyable to fight and the lure keeps on building, probably now my favourite game of all time.

Any fan will love this DLC, anyone that says FO4 didn't click with them or didn't enjoy it... well, that's the sort of sh1t a synth would say

Before patch: Constant frame drops. Sometimes even dropping to under 15FPS making the game impossible to play

After patch: "Fixed" framerate by downgrading the graphics and removing the fog. Only to have the game drop to 20FPS

Another example of lazy developers with an outdated engine that focuses on 1 platform.

Good - The map is pretty big and helps pad out the game in that respect, given that the Commonwealth map isn't very big for a Fallout game. The island itself is very atmospheric with some great and memorable location rivaling some of the best in the main game. The story I also find to be excellent with good character all round and also a few twists. Particularly the parts revolving around the prototype synth Dima. Basically there is more of what made the main game great, with a different atmosphere and setting.

Bad - My biggest gripe is that the story doesn't tie in enough with either the main story or with your standing within any of the main game factions. This is a problem with all Bethesda games though, you're standing within a faction and the decisions you have made do not have enough of an effect on the game world. There are also not enough new weapons and armor types, I would have liked to have seen more. Quite expensive dlc when you compare it to the likes of blood and wine in price.

Verdict - A very good dlc that you will enjoy if you enjoy the main game, simple as that. I would have gave it 7.7/10 if I could as its very good and that's it. Very pleased with it but feel that future dlc can be even better. Enjoyable and worthy addition though. 8/10.

It just felt so much more alive, and more like a Fallout 3 or New Vegas successor. So you start off by receiving a radio signal (as usual), and it takes you to Nick Valentine’s place, where you end up decidedly becoming a detective. Cool. So you make your way to the tip top of the right hand side of the map to this bay house with a boat docked right outside, setting up your DLC perfectly. You talk to a family about their missing daughter, and look around their home for clues. This eventually will lead you to Far Harbor.

Once making your way to Far Harbor, the story immediately throws you into the action, and you get a taste of a brand new type of enemy. They’re pretty damn strong, so be careful not to fall down from where you’re fighting. (You’ll see.) After that, you become a ‘citizen’ of Far Harbor, and the story continues. I try not to disclose spoilers, so I won’t go into any further detail. Anyway, the gameplay itself is pretty much the same as it has always been, so you won’t feel much different going into the DLC. However, there are some brand new weapons, brand new enemies as I already stated, and there are some pretty interesting characters that gave me that nostalgic feeling from Fallout 3.

Check out this bad MF’er. He’s called a Fog Crawler.

Far Harbor manages to maintain a very haunting atmosphere, and it also manages to keep you on the edge of your seat while exploring. This is something I haven’t felt from Bethesda since the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, when I first found the Dark Brotherhood. *Shivers* It’s all very creepy. This DLC is definitely one of the betters ones that Bethesda has released for Fallout in general. All of its characters have a certain charm about them that makes you wanna bring them back to the Commonwealth, however, you have to leave them there.

    Fallout4_FarHarbor_Arrival.png

The fact that Far Harbor is such a great DLC softens the blow of what Wasteland Workshop lacks for its price. If Wasteland Workshop had five dollars worth of a story line, I could have accepted that, but with Far Harbor, I strongly suggest dropping some pre-war bucks on this and giving it a go. If you’re not playing Fallout 4 anymore, this DLC in particular is the best reason why you should be.

If you don’t believe me, purchase the DLC yourself. I think you’ll be pretty impressed with what Bethesda has managed to cook up. I can’t wait to see their next set. I’d really love to see D.C. again with Fallout 4’s engine. Anyway, below you’ll find a link to purchase the Far Harbor DLC separately, and a link to the Season Pass. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope you enjoy the game!

Despite new enemies and new weapons the only noteworthy new thing the DLC brings to the table is the VR sections which are the most tedious, misplaced things in a game for years... They're ultimately neither challenging or interesting and the quest could have functioned easily without them.

In the end the decisions you have to make are fairly hollow and little is given in the way of character development to decide the fate of the islanders.

Moving forward, Bethesda really need to up their game as this for me was bordering on Dead Money standards...

    Positives;

    Challenging new enemies
    New areas to explore
    New weapons and quests

    Negatives;

Performance takes a hit due to fog
    Some interesting new camera glitches
Island drab and mostly looks the same throughout
VR section (one of the most ill-judged, worst piece of gaming I can remember)
Leaves very little by way of legacy to take back to the main game

One of the most crash happy DLCs to date. Interesting concept but it felt way too similar to point lookout. It's the dialog system is what is holding back this game. Any and all witty or charm replies that were a staple of the series are long gone. The DLC boils down into walkabout-shootup-task-manager, with uninteresting or rehashed faction choices. Story wise it is decent but also a little dull at times as it follows the same formula of the main game, making it feel like more of the same. An interesting side mission involving a vault and a murder mystery was refreshingly different similar to Old World Blues or Shivering Isles, giving the DLC something of it's own. Just a shame there weren't more side quests like this as it is my opinion that this is what FO4 needs: Fully fleshed out side missions that work as stand alone quests, with style and tone differing from the main game.

Visually Far Harbor is very nice and pretty with a unique look and feel all it's own. Just, I did think that the fog (especially at night) made it difficult to truly appreciate the detail to the environment. Fog effect was cool though.

New enemies were okay, but not to challenging. Nice design though. Would have been nice if there was a new enemy type that required new strategies. But all of the new enemies can be defeated using tried and tested methods.

Like the new armor types, a shame there isn't a complete set of the special Recon Marine Armor. Spent ages looking for the non-existing legs, had to settle for regular Assault Marine one instead (the completionist in me weeps.) I didn't like the new weapons. While they did look cool, my existing gear was stronger and far more practical.

    Overall:
Far Harbor is a decent enough DLC with enough content to warrant its price. It's more of the same as what you got from the main game, so for those looking for more, it will quell that need. However if you are looking for something more and relevant diversity, the it falls a little short.

    Side Note ro developers:
If there is to be more DLC it would be nice to include weapon and armor display stands. The ability to reset the perk chart, once you hit lvl 60+ it would be a nice option (especially to get rid of perks you chose for the sake of trophies.) An option to disable the helmet view when using power armor (would prefer to have regular view like when you're not in armor.)

But! It also features boring, dull, repetitive quests and locations. Also badly written unintersting characters.

Far Harbor is also the biggest land mass Bethesda has made for a DLC (Except for Shivering Isles).

What did you expect frlm Bethesda?

Far Harbor is a nice addition to Fallout 4. It's creepy and atmospheric it pulled me right back into the fallout universe. However, I must agree with others about the performance issues with this DLC. I thought perhaps it was just me until I came here and discovered other experiencing similar issues. Great story and well portrayed characters made me play this game for 100+ hours. Definitely will play this game again in the future!

Original game was pure 10, but seems they are lost in making DLC's. DiMA's Memories Puzzle is unnecessary and pretty bad and boring puzzle mini game which was more annoying than fun!

Generally speaking, it's an improvement on the base game in many ways. The main storyline is definitely more engaging and creative, with a number of endings available for you to choose. Unfortunately, Bethesda's attempt at adding gameplay via the asinine puzzle section did not sit well with me. Honestly, it's been a while since I did something as pointless and boring as these puzzles.Generally speaking, it's an improvement on the base game in many ways. The new enemies are interesting and provide more of a challenge to higher-level players. The new items are also pretty neat in general. The best part about the DLC, however, is probably the atmosphere -- it just feels darker and more dangerous, as a post-apocalyptic wasteland should feel.

This DLC could be a great one, but the drop on frame rate makes it unplayable. I just stop playing until Bethesda fix this problem or I buy a PS4 NEO.

This was a pretty good DLC. I enjoyed exploring Far Harbor but after a while the whole haunted(I know it’s not haunted) vibe got boring. The story was pretty good as I enjoy the synth storyline in the game.

Mediocre Game and an Insult to every Fallout-Veteran. Still better than F76 tho. DONT BUY!

After the smaller and less satisfying DLCs that came before, it’s nice to have something larger and deeper to add to my Fallout 4 experience. Although this is really just more Fallout, Bethesda hit a high note here.

Far Harbor sits somewhere between a San Francisco noir and a Stephen King thriller. There are things lurking in the fog that you've never seen before. And warring factions fight for both the fog's preservation and eradication. And see if you can stay on task long enough to find the missing girl, too. Far Harbor is a neat collection of short stories in the Fallout 4 novel.

Fallout 4 was a strong game, but it had some weak spots when it came to the visuals, the challenge, the storytelling and the RPG elements. Bethesda obviously listened to the critique, as Far Harbor actually is a tad better than the original game.
