I really enjoyed this first DLC from Bethesda for Fallout 4. "Automatron" brings the *incredible* opportunity to build your own robot companion(s), which leads to a very unique experience, and opens up for Robot Mods to be released in future DLC, as well.

Though the DLC Main Quest is only 3-4 hours long, the introduction of robot creation is what really stands as the foundation of this new content. I only started playing FO4 a month ago, just dinged lvl26 while writing this; with that said, I'd have to admit that this content isn't very valuable for players who have already finished the game in its entirety. This is definitely the kind of DLC pack that can completely change how you play the game, if you have it installed early in your campaign.

I usually prefer to travel with Dogmeat, because DOGS.... but being able to run around the Commonwealth with one of my own custom robots, while I'm still relatively new to the game, makes all the difference in the world.

Loved it. The quest is decent concerning length and pretty interesting. The Robot function is the best thing in crafting since mine craft lol. See people continue to be sour about this master piece of a game. Bethesda was far too ambitious in their advertising for this game, because it seems these people that have no idea what Fallout even is refuse to leave.

    Value for Money right here.

As a DLC Automation opens up a smallish dungeon and story (no more than a handful of hours) and the ability to build your own robot companion - which is as deep as the rest of FO4! Don't see this DLC pack as meant to change the game entirely, but as someone that's wondering the wasteland some 700+ hours in, I find this DLC and the new mechanical gangs

People complaining it's to easy are ... ???!!! THERE'S AN OPTION TO CHANGE DIFFICULTY, USE IT!!

Personally, I'm really pleased I bought the Season Pass the day I bought the game last year, this is just the beginning and FO4 is already a superb sandbox RPG now :)

But when you're with the minute men and have to keep watch over many settling's then the new Automatron dlc can become annoying - I suddenly had three situations in short time, where two settlements at once were attacked (and half of these attacks were obviously related to the dlc). On the plus side you get a really big building space you can redecorate and you get a new armor at the end...

However if all you want is more quests, this rather short dlc is probably not worth 10 bucks.

It brought together the customization aspect of character creation to your mechanical companions. The customization possibilities are endless and this was a major must have for this DLC. Now in terms of the story, it was not all it could have been, robot companion Ada lacks excitement and doesnt pressure current involvement with the mechanist. If there was more emphasis on the need to fight the mechanist, the gameplay would be more intense and more enjoyable. The dungeons were very thorough and provided fantastic loot, the end of one having all three of the new weapon editions. Overall, this was more than i could have ever hoped Automatron to be. It is well worth paying for anyone who missed the opportunity of buying the 30 dollar season pass. Rejuvenates the game and adds more hours of enjoyment!!! Expand

Decent experience with 3-4 hours of Main quest line. A lot of illusion of choice tbh which takes a way a lot from the experience, This gives it a very linear feel like Mothership Zeta or Operation Anchorage.

Some interesting loot and the Robot creation mode is fun for a while but gets kind of meaningless as this game doesn't give you any new areas to explore and clear out. The ending

The ending is a great boss battle sequence but is pretty underwhelming to finish it and then go back out and your back where you started with nothing else to do in the world. Would of been nice to get a few new areas to clear.

But all things considered its 10 bucks, Some great sequences in the main quest with interesting new enemies and a new raider faction.

The new weapons were interesting, Tesla gun being a satisfying new weapon with a small number or modifications available. The new Robot Armour, functioning as over-powered Metal Armour was visually interesting, with the new helmets serving as good collectibles with interesting features such as the Assaultron Helmet opening when not in combat.

The actual robot modding itself is in-depth and extremely satisfying, particularly the ability to modify already existing robot companions Codsworth and Curie (non-synth version).

Robobrains make a return and are expanded upon, with their backstory being revealed through dialogue, terminals and clues in the environment.

The final story mission is a long slog, giving a good sense of finality and playing into the superhero narrative the Mechanist had created, serving as a satisfying conclusion to the DLC.

While the story is relatively short, the modding is expansive with every available mod being unlocked upon completing the story, this provides some longevity to the mod as new builds are worked out to provide a real meaningful companion who impacts gameplay more than those available in the base game.

Unfortunately this DLC seems pretty weak. I played it on very hard mode, not survival, but still was completed in around 3 hours. I guess if you compare it to the price of an "OK" movie, you won't be disappointed.
Hopefully Bethesda steps up their game and makes it a little more challenging, along with more content in the upcoming DLC's.
If not this will be my first and last Fallout

Automatron is basically a new quest line with the end game of confronting the Machinist. The DLC also introduces robot crafting elements and the ability to have new robot companions.

The quest line portion of the DLC lasts a couple of hours and is quite a good ride to be honest. There are a couple of new locations all seamlessly fit into the existing Fallout map. You will be fighting mostly against robots and a new faction which I will not spoil. Both of these adversaries offer unique loot and fighting patterns which was the best thing for me about this experience. On completion of the main quest, a new radiant quest is made available. The quest is well made, comes with plenty of new items and weapons and has a great branching storyline at the end.

The robot crafting element is half weapon mod and half pokemon. At the beginning of the quest storyline, you are given a robot workbench to build your own creations. New blueprints can be attained by defeating enemy robots in battle and collecting the parts they drop. The amount of combinations has a lot of potential. My current robot companion is far more combat ready than any of the base game characters. They do, however, lack personality and expanded back story missions.

This DLC is short, but sweet. The new weapons I am still using on my main character, along with the robot companion. The downsides are the length of the main storyline which is over too soon, and the fact that all robot blueprints can be unlocked on completion of the story, therefore rendering the radiant quest pointless aside from xp grinding. If you would like more Fallout, I recommend this. However, it will only last one sitting, unless you really like robots.

Robot creating is the only good aspect of a poorly made 10 dollar DLC. Story is short and the only challenging part was to keep myself awake in the final act. But then again I made a pretty sweet robot!

Automatron is not terrible, especially when you consider it's only 10 euro. But it does some very inexcusable things, for example. The dialogue is god awful , the illusion of choice here is painstakingly obvious and it doesn't help that the main storyline's writing is just 'meh'

The game adds one new big location , which is a huge dungeon which is nice as it has interesting lore. But

The game adds one new big location , which is a huge dungeon which is nice as it has interesting lore. But upsettingly most of the dlc takes place in slightly refurbished already existing locations and serve as 'go here kill this' locations.

After 3-4 hours of main quest you get decent unique armor and all but Robot Creation is what is the big meat here, Sadly whilst robot creation is great. There is little incentive to do it, they are loud and clunky and simply can't compete with uniquely voice acted companions in strength and in writing. They will give you another 2-3 hours of gameplay MAYBE. It also seems like oversight that after completion of the main storyline , you automatically unlock the ability to create EVERY robotic component. This completely defeats the point of building robots to go out and kill more robots for new and exciting parts to customize.

For these reasons I feel while this DLC isn't 'bad' , it's very 'meh' and hence I will give it a 6/10.

With Automatron Bethesda has shrewdly managed to zero in on one already compelling point of Fallout 4's experience, dropping in a new twist that solidly expands on that point in an interesting new way. As such, it's a perfect add-on for those either experiencing the wasteland for the first time or returning for a new play-through. It's simplistic and short story component means that it arguably doesn't have enough content to actually draw you back in on its own, and that's a shame, but if more Fallout 4 is on the cards for you already and you love customization, there's a strong argument for playing it with Automatron attached.
