Man, what a disappointment. I was excited to have another game that uses the Aim Controller but the gun doesn’t even line up well with what you’re seeing. Eventually I’ll finish it simply because I paid for it but as of right now, I really regret buying it. Expand

Doom VFR has been on of my most fun VR experiences to date. I played the game with the Aim controller and had a blast.

The game gets a lot of flack for the gun swaying as you walk, which doesn't match the Aim controller movement in your hand, but to be completely honest, I never even noticed this when I played and didn't realize it was even a thing until reading about it after I

Turned on left stick movement with smoothing cam rotation. I don’t suffer from motion sickness so avoided any nonsense that tried to aid me. Jumping is completely gone which makes no sense because this game can make people sick by teleporting and bouncing on launch pads. My biggest complaint is the grenade shooter. Want to desperately focus on my normal gun, but the grenade hand is always in my sights. I tried playing with move, but that set up has no way to turn off motion sickness restrictions. Can’t even rotate cam so it’s completly impossible to play that way to begin with. Normal ds4 controls are doable, but again has grenade hand always in plane view while normal gun is moving. If that grenade hand ever gets an option to be disabled then it would be a much better game. Doom never had duel weapons. Who thought it would be a good idea for an unneeded weapon to always block the player’s view? Also even more bad news. No BFG or chainsaw. I guess the broken teleporting feature sacrificed the additional buttons needed for extra weapons. Btw, teleporting is worse than playing Kinect in the dark. God help us if VR relies on teleporting in future games. If so, VR would truly be doomed. Expand

Doom VFR is amazing in VR. These are some of the best graphics I have ever seen in VR. If you liked the regular Doom, you’ll love this spin off in VR.

Gameplay: 9/10. Same Doon gameplay you know and love. However the controls don’t feel quite optimized as well as most games. The Aim controller is a blast to use, but the implementation feels just a little off compared to Farpoint. Still my preferred way to play bough!

Lasting appeal: 9.5/10. One of the best showcases for VR. Although a little short, it has plenty or replayability. And for half the price of a regular game, I can’t recommend it enough. Take some time to learn the controls and it’ll be a must have for any VR collection.

The work that they complain about is made possible with years of development and technology and a horde of hands of original doom.

You move yourself by teleportation and this method works well in the game. You can even use teleportation to kill stunned monsters. The most important thing is that Doom VFR feels like Doom. It is fast and relentless. The monsters are coming in waves and they are coming at you hard so you need to keep moving. You can upgrade your armor and weapons like in Doom. There are several difficulty levels. I only played on middle difficulty settings. Graphics and animations are very good. The experience is so much more immersive in VR than on television. I did not feel any nausea when playing it for half hour or so this morning. The game is awesome and I want to see more !

If you want the best experience do this: play with Aim controller, enable smooth turn, enable left stick movement, use triangle to turn 180º and play seated. This game is very fast, like original doom, so trying to play it standing and turning yourself isn't a good option.

The zombie arm that holds your grenade launcher is distracting when playing with the aim - it would be great if there was a setting to hide it, but it's hardly a deal breaker. So, as someone that’s been loving a lot of VR games lately, I was as excited as anyone to find out that “DOOM” would be making its way to VR, and when I eventually got my own PlayStation VR, I knew I had to eventually try the game for myself. It’s a shame, then, that I have to admit that playing “DOOM VFR” (great title, by the way) was an incredibly crushing experience, and that it’s a pretty miserable game.
In terms of positives…there’s really very little I can say. I guess I can appreciate how the game actually stays true to the 2016 “DOOM” game in regards to its design, though I feel like praising that just feels like me appreciating the game for doing the bare minimum. Other than that…I like that the story is a little different? And they picked some cool levels from the original game?
Yeah, that’s all I’ve got. Really, in every other way, “DOOM VFR” is unbelievably disappointing. While I’m glad it told a new story in its short time, the new protagonist is about as flat and lifeless as they can come, without anything that makes his story worth following. Visually, some of the levels feel a bit downgraded graphically, but that’s to be expected and it’s not the most gaping issue I have with the game. What is, however, is the actual gameplay…which is frustratingly awful. This game may just be the buggiest and glitchiest VR game that I’ve played, as it’s prone to constant lock-ups and freezes that make you want to rip your hair out completely. I know, it’s a Bethesda game and they always ship with bugs, but wow, it’s like they didn’t even try here. Also, the game uses multiple forms of control, but honestly, at least of the ones I played with (since I sadly didn’t get to try the Aim Controller), none of them feel all that fun. The Move controllers make the movement feel really clunky, and it can be hard to focus on moving and shooting at once, and while using a DualShock 4 does mitigate some of that, the fact that you aim with your head can feel really awkward. Also, no matter what controller you use, this game is sickness-inducing. I know it’s “DOOM,” and therefore, it’s supposed to be fast-paced, but seriously, I salute anyone that can get through this game without ever feeling like you’re going to projectile vomit. I’d like to believe I’ve gotten my legs with VR, having played so many VR games, but this game left me with headaches, nausea, and a bunch of general discomfort. It’s the rare example of a VR game that, honestly, is only fun to play when you take the VR headset off. And I mean that literally, at one point, the game was making me so uncomfortable, I took the headset off, sat it on my lap, and continued the game, moving the headset when need be. Doing that was more fun than keeping it on.
It honestly hurts me to give “DOOM VFR” such a low score, because I really wanted to love this game, but quite frankly, this just feels like an insult. There’s plenty of fun to be had with the PlayStation VR, but I feel like this game is among the peripheral’s weakest games. Even the most hardcore “DOOM” fans are encouraged to stay away from this game, and stick with the fantastic new games that we’ve gotten. They’re even more exciting, even more hellacious, and there’s a good chance they won’t make you nearly as sick as “DOOM VFR” will.

I have been playing with the aim controller with smooth turning for maybe couple hours now and I felt very impressed by the visuals. Soon after playing though the game very rapidly flips from roaming around solving simple puzzles to suddenly ramped up to 11 hardcore shooting demon gameplay (a little jarring to hop from one to the other so quickly in VR). Feels enjoyable to play but once THAT GRENADE LAUNCHER got stuck in my players view at all times my heart sank a little. Ultimately DOOM VFR is a less focused 'VR experience' than most, but the core doom gameplay loop saves it from feeling disappointing.

Doom VFR is simply a disappointment compared with Skyrim VR, it is almost like Id team have been in a cave for a year and don´t know how the preferred/standardized locomotion systems are on VR.

People who prefer teleportation and X degree snapped rotation won't find that in the game. People who prefer free movement using move controllers and smooth rotation won't find that either. The game should be a perfect fit for playing with Move controllers, but it isn´t. Instead, you´ll find 4 useless buttons (strangely mapped) that translate the player view forward/backward and left/right and it can´t be remapped. One of the successes of Skyrim is that it allows the player to customize the controls, I still hope they update the game adding some new options for that.

Graphically the game is stunning, Id engine works really well on the platform and I hope to see more games from them on VFR.

GUI interaction is, unfortunately, surprisingly wrong too, with inconsistencies in how you interact with UI buttons and panels, sometimes you can click things in a laser pointer pen fashion and sometimes you simply can´t, like when you get a confirm dialog.

I really hope they update they update the game listening to player´s feedback, so they game can convert the game into something somehow enjoyable, so far, at least for me, it isn´t.

The controls are pretty much the same (with the Dualshock) except for the change from Glory Kills to Telefragging which is a mechanic that actually works quite well in VR. Let's get this right away: the move controllers just suck! They suck because there's no analog sticks and so any game with motion (like, 99% of all games) feel like a chore. The analogless moves are great for immersion: you're actually aimining, pulling the cord of your bow, grabbing objects with your own virtual hands, etc, but thanks to this real oversight by Sony, they're really useless for 99% of flatgame ports out there. This is a "native VR game", except it's really just a VR DLC apart from the original Doom game. It plays as frantic as flat Doom and there's really no way the moves work alright here, except to a few die-hard masochists.

That rant about the Moves aside, game works like a charm either on ds4 or Aim, both with analog sticks. That's the way to play it, that's how the game shines. Being there in VR is an experience like no other. so, top game, a bit too short, 2 points deducted, one of them because had it some better rotation implementation for the Moves (it has just a 180 degree button), it might be a bit better...

You can kind of ignore the gun out of your shoulder - but that is not ideal as well.

When using the move's, it's very different, which I like, but the movement options are just **** there too. No proper rotation, no movement. That can be done better as many games have shown so far.

If they would fix the controller issues, it would be an 8 or 9 easily. I am just sad, that it seems they have abandon the game. Smaller, indie devs have patched their games afterwards. But they do not seem to care.

It is just sad to see such a great game being hindered by something silly like those controls - which is absolutely not necessary as we have been demonstrated by other devs.

Pretty cool like for VR. Feels cheap compared to flat version, but still delivers decent amount of content like for vr game, especially counting unlockable retro levels. Graphics are nice but rather blury. I found it difficult to play with sticks, but nice and easy playing with dual shock. DS4 combined with teleporting makes this game rather easy even on highest difficulty level.Pretty cool like for VR. Rather enjoyable experience. Very fast action like for VR game. In VR all those demons look huge and majestic. teleporting around and shooting enemies in face in slow motion is a lot of fun.

Love Doom VFR with the aim controller. I haven’t tried it any other way and I don’t plan to. This game is brilliant and I hope the make another doom vr game!! Tracking is great, some times I have to aim my gun to the floor to line it up again but I have to rarely do this.

Please release another Doom VFR! I will pre order it without hesitation.

Play on PlaystationVR, use the Aim Controller. That's really the only way to go.

Abandonware... Tragic move control... There is a simple way to fix it but publisher doesn't care.

UI is on the side of the screen making it impossible to read, the gameplay is clunky and is mostly about running around which is not so pleasant in vr

It's awesome to see all the demons in VR. They look huge and terrifying. You have to play with the aim controller or the ds4 playing with the move controllers is awkward as hell.

Doom VFR remains overpriced at $40, two years after its release, for a title that relies so heavily on reusing assets from Doom 2016. Одна из лучших игр в виртуальной реальности. Для обладателей VR - must have.

The updates really has improved the game since it was released, especially on PS4 Pro. Makes a lot of fun to play with aim controller but the controls feels best with the dualshock for some reason. The weapons and shooting gameplay doesn‘t feel as good as it could. The game is really cool and all in all also addictive but could not reach the rating „perfect“ by a small margin.

Love it, even though the PS aim controller integration sucks (jerky af) and I hate the move controller teleporting too (nauseating af). Best way to play imo is on a standard controller with smooth movement and rotation.
It’s a different story from Doom 2016, so it’s really nice to have a totally unique Doom VR experience.
It really feels like you’re there, on a base on Mars and the Hell

The weapons in VR feel huge and bada$$.
    Kicka$$ game.

While DOOM: VFR can be a fun game to play, the lack of ultra-violence and short playtime overshadow the fun that DOOM: VFR provides, especially at it's current price.

Doom VFR won't look as badass as the last main installment's version looked on regular televisions and gaming monitors, but such is the burden of enjoying it all in VR. Sure, you'll have to forfeit the complete run-and-gun tactic that was almost required, and you'll need to take more of a strategic approach until you're well versed in one of the three control schemes. It's easiest with the DualShock 4 controllers, miserable with motion controllers, and downright fun with the Aim controller, so the play style is up to you. It's not a masterpiece, but it's a pretty good start. It feels great that the game wasn't a quick money grab priced at the full $60, and it gets a pass due to the lack of VR titles, but any sequel that comes next will have to really step up to the plate. The motion controller difficulties can't persist, or it'll be a major downfall for the Doom franchise in the VR marketplace.

A great example of how to adapt something on VR to create an experience that's familiar, and true to the game that spawned it but something all its own at the same time. [Feb 2018, p.92]
