Stay away from this game. This is not Doom. I had to check the box a couple of times when i started playing and the menu to confirm that i was indeed playing Doom Eternal and that it's a single player campaign. Play any previous incarnation instead. I have no idea who is writing positive reviews. It's basically Doom 3 arena in single player just with no ammo and platforming. Blows my mind.

It's a fantastic game. I highly recommend it for those looking to challenge their ability to play FPS.

The game just feels so smooth and it feels great to play. The story is also solid, particularity in the second half of the game (Taras Nabad codex entries are just awesome). The decision id software made to give players less ammo and smarter enemy AI is a big positive as well- the game wants you to learn and adapt, not just mindlessly fly through the levels. Overall, I was extremely impressed with DOOM Eternal and I can't wait for the DLC. Expand

Unfortunately for Doom Eternal, nearly every aspect of this has been scaled back in quality. Immediately we are immersed into a story driven narrative that nobody asked for or wanted. Weapons have been balanced dramatically altering their effectiveness, and ammo is now much more scarce in an effort to make the game feel more strategic. Pacing is out the window, as most of your abilities and upgrades are provided immediately. The music is a huge letdown, due to the failed attempts of Mick Gordon to execute his deadlines on time. The whole game is now very platform based and arcade like.

While still a respectable shooter with lots of good things going for it, this is not the Doom series that re-emerged this generation.

DOOM: Eternal es una grandísima secuela. Expande, propone, agrega y arregla.

Doom Eternal is the best shooter ever made, do not believe the 0's. Brutal, fun, perfect gameplay, stunning level and art design and it also helps that it's by far the best looking game created to date. The smoothness will make you think you're already on the next generation of consoles.

I'm the DOOM Slayer, not George of the f***ing Jungle. It absolutely kills the immersion and pace of the game.

Stand still and you will die. You must always keep moving. That's about all this game has to offer that is "DOOM." Once far enough into the game you have enough unlocks the combat can be fun, but again the constant inventory management is so distracting from a DOOM game. Music is great but the same track is often used over and over and over again. While it has it's fun moments in some of the kill arenas the game overall is a frustrating experience. Massive step in wrong direction after DOOM 2016. Very disappointed.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Although i m really grateful for the efforts of the dev team, this game really didn’ t hit the mark. The cartoonish graphic is out of place, but they mentioned it when announced so i was prepared fo that, what i was not prepared for was the jump in the storyline/plot from the end of the previous one and the beginning of this, not to mention these seemingly divine creatures appearing out of nowhere or this Betrayer guy sitting there talking to me like he is my father; no idea who they are but Doom guy clearly does!! So much for immersion in the story!

This new Space fortress/base/gadget storage feels very much like Wolfenstein TNC, it cuts the levels and you basically go in places that you never heard of to fix situations you didn’t know happened.

The combat system, as a lot of people already mentioned....not really entertaining. Wasn’t it supposed to be a Power Fantasy? Feels more like a Farming Fantasy honestly, you are the weakest element in the battlefield ( they still call you Slayer tho) and the game forces you to literally run away to collect ammo/hp/armor to be able to survive and slowly chip away health from the 2-3 actual enemies present. I m not saying Doom 2016 was perfect but combat was satisfying, waves and waves of enemies but you still felt competitive, you could pierce their ranks while still need to find health and reposition yourself. I m not complaining about being too difficult, i enjoy Ultra- violence but the base concept of the combat is not fitting in my opinion.

I understand that after the huge success the team felt they could do anything and i read a lot of people screaming at the miracle this game is, it s clearly not a miracle but the passion was there and is enough for a 4 just to balance out. P.S. i will not talking about the platforming parts so I save the time i wasted on it.

Simply better than Doom 2016. I like games where I have to closely manage myself and use everything at my disposal to overcome situations. Doom Eternal does exactly that, sort of like a survival-action game if that makes sense. The game is just an absolute power fantasy you feel like the most bad ass guy around. People bash the game for lots of things but none of them feels justified. MostSimply better than Doom 2016. The game is just an absolute power fantasy you feel like the most bad ass guy around. People bash the game for lots of things but none of them feels justified. Most of them just hate it for being different from 2016. You see in 2016 about the only challenge in the game was the damage the enemies dished out, you basically never ran out of ammo so you could just pick a weapon and blow through the game with it. You had the chainsaw to replenish your ammo if need be but you never had to because the levels were littered with ammo health and armor. That's not to say that I didn't like it, it's just that eternal just flat out better in every regard, the levels have way less resources so you absolutely need to use everything you have to win and the game throws twice the amount of enemies at you to deal with . It's also much more video-gamey in a sense that there are lots of retro elements in it. Like all sorts of hazards that you have to navigate, platforming sections and extra lives to collect. It's much more colourful, and the overall aspect of the game is more like a cool 90s action cartoon, just with gallons of blood. It's much more story heavy it expands upon the lore that was in 2016 but not in a way that would come in expense of gameplay its really well balanced. It seems that the people at id software sat down and said "you know what let's make f*cking videogame, not a cinematic experience, no, an awesome videogame." And that is what it feels like to play Eternal, a really cool and very challenging game. Some players are complaining about a certain enemy that ruins the flow of the game... I have no idea why they feel this way. Every enemy presents a unique challenge that you constantly need to be aware of and deal with them accordingly. It feels very polished and everything serves a purpose. I absolutely understand what Id software tried to accomplish with this game, and they nailed it. If you thought that doom 2016 was good but something was just amiss, then Eternal will be right up your alley. I will not give it a perfect score because there are some minor gripes I had with the game, like some glory kills would not register correctly so I had to replay a level so I can complete the level challenge and one or two weapons or weapon mods are just not that interesting to play around with but that could be a personal issue. All in all Doom Eternal is just a flat out good time. 9/10 Expand

WHEN some enemies are susceptible is unclear. WHAT weapons damage some enemies is unclear. Some enemies cause you to maintain distance which heavily restricts the fast-paced movement the game is known for.

Doom Eternal in a nutshell: I died 30 times on the second boss, barely getting it to 50% life on my best run. The game offered me Sentinel Armor. I put on Sentinel Armor, and I defeated the boss without taking ONE point of health loss.

C'mon, id, there HAS to be a middle ground. In fact, I know there is. I played Doom 2016.

In a fast-paced game all about movement, you do not lock upgrades that give you better movement control behind upgrades

In a well-balanced game, difficulty settings provide a proper challenge that you can meet.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a disappointment for me. It just does not feel like Doom, It feels like the devs wanted to make this like a halo game and insert a story. (They even put an AI in your suit) lol. They force you to do melee kills in order to play well and is the only way to survive unrelenting hordes of demons and monsters. The story is also mostly conveyed reading texts, yawn.

The levels are multilayered, but small so there's not much room to run and gun like the old doom games. And boy does this game throw relentless enemies at you, some of which have cheap hits. It's a very trial and error game IMO.

There is excessive platforming so much so that the game feels like a jumping flash game.

The graphics were good, but some of the graphics look a touch cartoony compared to doom 2016. I thought doom 2016 was almost perfect.

There is a lot of horrible platforming that is definitely not fun. You collect tokens to unlock collectibles in your bag but there are more keys than doors, which is odd and makes a lit of the secrets feel pointless. Some enemies are poorly designed (marauder) and force awkward playtime. I was glad to complete the game and put it down for good. The last couple of bosses are horrendous. One literally changes all the game mechanics you rely on and has the classic 'invulnerable' phase. Just poor game design that has no place in 2020 Expand
